#like malnutrition as in not having dietary needs met
Note
Also, just as random aside - I see lots of people saying Himiko wouldn’t have lasted long anyway, because she likes drinking blood & like . . . No, she NEEDS blood. To survive. Also, I don’t think it says anywhere that it needs to be people blood. Or that she needs to drain the body dry. I'm pretty sure the only reason that happened in canon was cause she was STARVING. You could take a couple pints from a herd of cows & she'd probably be fine, & no one dies.
YEAH NO IT'S
I compare it to a vitamin deficiency more often because clearly she can physically survive without blood, but her body needs it to fully function.
But it is still a form of starvation and malnutrition because her body isn't getting the sustenance she /needs/ to survive.
And it's been twelve years! Twelve fucking years! And I can prove that exact math because in the chapter where she visits her childhood home you can see the door frame has marks for her height like most kids do and it stops at fucking THREE YEARS OLD. And she held on basically being starved from three to fifteen, when she was almost out of middle school, before she finally fucking snapped and attacked her crush.
And honestly yeah we don't
We don't know exactly how much blood Himiko needs to function or if it has to be Human. Because she was starved for years until she snapped and gorged herself on blood, and then fully leaned into the awful things her parents said about how she was inherently evil and some sort of demon child and went 'well I might as well kill people since I have no choice' especially because of the confirmation bias of how she couldn't control herself with Saito so clearly it's only a matter of time anyway and she might as well stop pretending to be a good person completely ignoring the fact that she only attacked him because she was /starving/ (And the LoV, as much as I love them, only enabled this)
That's part of why i yoinked her to the Hero side in Chaos Children because GOD if she was put in an environment where she can be told she's not a monster she's a person who has dietary needs that can easily be met, she would be so much better off!

[📹 Scenes from al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital as victims of Israel's genocide in Gaza are brought in after the latest round of bombing and shelling raids.]
🇵🇸 🚑🏥 🚨 CHILDREN IN GAZA FACE DEADLY TRIPLE THREAT, SAYS UNICEF IN PRESS RELEASE
The Palestinian children living in the Gaza Strip face a deadly triple threat of disease, starvation and occupation violence says the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in a press release on Friday.
According to the press release, children in Gaza face a "triple threat to their lives" as cases of disease rise, nutrition falls, and "the escalation in hostilities" approaches its 14th week.
The UNICEF points to the thousands of children who've already been killed in Israeli bombing and shelling of the Gaza Strip. The press release also emphasized that while conditions for children are rapidly deteriorating, there are increasing cases of diarrhea, while food poverty is on the rise, raising the risk of mounting child deaths.
“Children in Gaza are caught in a nightmare that worsens with every passing day,” UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell is quoted as saying.
“Children and families in the Gaza Strip continue to be killed and injured in the fighting, and their lives are increasingly at risk from preventable diseases and lack of food and water. All children and civilians must be protected from violence and have access to basic services and supplies," she added.
According to the press release, cases of diarrhea among children under the age of five rose from 48'000 cases, to 71'000 cases in a single week beginning Dec. 17th, the equivalent of 3'200 new cases of diarrhea per day.
UNICEF points to the increasing in cases of diarrhea in such a short period is a strong indication that child health in the Palestinian enclave is quickly deteriorating.
According to UNICEF, before the escalation in Israeli aggression, an average of 2'000 cases of diarrhea in children under the age of five were recorded each month, with the increase to today's totals representing a 2'000% increase.
The UNICEF press release adds that, "Since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification warned of the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip in late December, UNICEF has found that an increasing number of children are not getting their basic nutrition needs met."
UNICEF also emphasizes that about 90% of children under two years of age are now consuming "two or fewer food groups" according to a UNICEF survey conducted on Dec. 26th.
UNICEF says that the same survey, conducted just two weeks previous showed that 80% of children under two were consuming two or fewer food groups at that time, a 10% increase in just two weeks, a marked deterioration for such a short time frame.
UNICEF added that most Gazan families said their children are only getting grains, including bread, or milk, which UNICEF says meets the definition of "severe food poverty".
UNICEF goes on to point out that dietary diversity for pregnant and breastfeeding women has also been severely compromised, with 25% of respondents to their survey saying they'd only consumed a single food type the day before, with 65% having only eaten two food types.
"The deteriorating situation is raising concerns about acute malnutrition and mortality breaching famine thresholds," the press release says.
UNICEF says it is "particularly worried" about the nutrition of over 155'000 pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, in addition to the over 135'000 children under two, "given their specific nutrition needs and vulnerability."
"When combined and left untreated," UNICEF says, "malnutrition and disease create a deadly cycle."
"Evidence has shown that children with poor health and nutrition are more vulnerable to serious infections like acute diarrhea. Acute and prolonged diarrhea seriously exacerbates poor health and malnutrition in children, putting them at risk of death.
UNICEF says that Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has "damaged or destroyed essential water, sanitation and health systems," and has "limited the ability to treat severe malnutrition."
In addition to the occupation bombing and shelling, displaced Palestinian families living in Gaza are unable to maintain the necessary hygiene levels necessary to prevent disease. And given the alarming lack of potable water and sanitation, many families are forced into openly defecating in the streets.
On top of this, only a few functioning hospitals remain in service in the Palestinian enclave, with the medical centers still open remaining focused on responding to the unending streams of trauma patients wounded in Israeli occupation bombing and shelling.
In this way, the local hospitals and healthcare personnel are "unable to adequately treat disease outbreaks."
UNICEF points to its own work in the Gaza Strip, delivering vital medical and other supplies, hygiene kits, infant formula, specialized food needs, nutrient supplements, and ready-to-use therapeutic foods for the "early prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition."
"UNICEF is calling for the resumption of commercial traffic so the shelves of shops can be restocked, and for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to help save civilian lives and alleviate suffering," the press release states.
"UNICEF works to provide the life-saving aid the children of Gaza so desperately need. But we urgently need better and safer access to save children's lives," UNICEF's Executive Director, Catherine Russell is quoted as saying.
"The futures of thousands more children in Gaza hang in the balance. The world cannot stand by and watch. The violence and suffering of children must stop."

It's been becoming pretty common lately for me to spot small groups of Girafferig snacking on my vegtable garden early in the morning, it's not a problem because they seem skittish and flee as soon as I open the door so they never do much damnage. But lately I've noticed one in the group looks a bit odd - like it's reversed? It's head is black and it's round tail is yellow, and dispite it's head still being the regular shape it seems to have jagged teeth and beady eyes similar to the other's tails. Is this some kind of genetic mutation? Some kind of variant? Have you ever seen a case like this on the island? Should I keep an eye on it? They're difficult to get close enough to to get a good look at but it doesn't seem to eat as much as the others and I'm worried maybe it has different dietary needs that aren't being met or something. Do you have any advice?
Maybe a mutation, I can't say for sure without runnign some tests and observing its behaviours. My bet is it's just a variant of the species that's adapted differently. We've seen a couple of these based on what you've told me, but theyre widely undocumented due to their rarity. The Variant itself is less effective in herds, and is not as well suited to the environments this species normally frequent, hence why its an unusual find. We have never had one on the island, but i've travelled to see a couple in the wild during my years of work. Going on the basis of its form being reversed, chances are it detects living things and the world around it via a combination of psychic vibrations, sort of like how echo location works for zubat, and no doubt its limited vision, it's biggest day-time sense will be smell, so to get close stay down wind of it for better observation chances. It will however have better vision at night, I can guarentee it. In theory this pokemon should be nocturnal, but due to it being a herd species, it's probably having to stick with its fellow mons for saftey and out of habit/survival instinct, or maybe due to an attachment to them. Normally the Tail of a Girafarig sleeps more in the day and is awake at night as a defence, a guard. But with this one, its tail will be prodominantly asleep in the day, leaving it's nocternal adaptive head awake during times it's less effective. Thanks to your notice of its teeth, it's a pretty good bet to assume this individual is a carnivore, though it'd be intereting to see how its body has adapted to that internally. It's no doubt eating just fine, just doing so at night when you have less chance of seeing it. Pokemon survive without us perfectly well, they are smart and this species is particulaly clever due to its psychic nature and ability to read an area and scan for threats. Try tracking it at night to get a better read on it's habits, I can promise you'll see some unusual behaviour, but its very intersting. Perhaps do not catch it, it may not want to be a tamed individual, or may want to stay with its family. If it's still with others of its kind despite its unusual mutation, it no doubt loves them a lot and does not wish to leave. Its survived this long just fine, night time will show you its hunting style, and it's for sure feeding more during this time. I'd not worry unless its showing signs of malnutrition, or looks particulalry skinny. On the off chance the mutation is unbalanced, the sharp teeth could be a hinderance, and its body may still need to digest plant matter, this may be a situation where catch, aid and release is necissary, but otherwise i'd not bother it. This mismatch of bodily autonomy has happened before, but normally the individuals don't survive for more than a few months in the wild, and you did not seem to mention it appearing very young or weak looking. Whatever it's doing, is working, it's just going about it all in a different way. Go forth and study it I guess, just watch out at night, guarenteed it'll be more territorial and hostile if you get spotted.

Essential Considerations When Choosing Aged Care Food Menu
Tumblr media
Quality meals are indeed necessary for all of us. This is true considering elderly care home residents. People are growing older and their health demands would tend to change. It’s the proper nutrition that is crucial to maintain a good quality of life. It is somehow usual for older people to have their dietary requirements met because of the changes that come with age.
Calcium-enriched foods are essential to best maintain bone health and to reduce the chances of osteoporosis. Other than the physical changes that often take place, a nutritious and well-balanced diet will best support the entirety of the physical health of the residents. This will now benefit the immune system and give it the support that it needs. This is likely significant in most care homes as illnesses and bugs tend to spread quickly from one person to another.
Plus, elderly people would experience a sudden change in appetite. Preparing appealing and delicious meals would best stimulate the appetite of residents. Mealtimes are also made up to be more enjoyable than ever. This will likewise help prevent malnutrition.
A good aged-care food menu should have a positive impact on physical health. It’s also essential to achieving healthy mental well-being. A satisfying and nutritious meal would have a positive impact on the mood of a person. Other nostalgic dishes would serve as a discussion point for most patients in a facility. It may also help promote social interaction and bring in a positive impact on mental well-being and health.
A balanced diet is very essential for all people. This is also true for most care home residents. Make sure the facility users have balanced and nutritious meals each day. This will bring a huge impact on the long-term quality and health of life. Each meal is as best provided if it’s well-balanced.
Fruits and Vegetables
There should be a guide to be followed such as fruit and vegetables (in 5 portions of vegetables and fruits every day). This will include tinned, frozen, fresh, juiced veg, and fruit.
Starchy Foods
Starchy foods like pasta, potatoes, and bread must make up a third of the diet. The aged people may also benefit from a higher version of fiber in foods such as additional fiber and wholemeal bread.
Dairy and Milk
Dairy and milk must likewise be served in three portions of milk. Other dairy foods like yogurt and cheese should be served three times a day. This will be an essential food group for the aged people enriched in calcium and good for bone health.
Spreads and Oils
High-fat spreads and oils must be served but in less and small amounts. This is essential for residents having heart conditions. The foods can also bring value as they add calories to meals for those residents having low appetites.
Calorie-enriched Foods
The suggested amount is 2,000 calories for daily calories for women while it’s 2,500 for men. But then, older adults spend less energy which means require less. It is usual for elderly people to lose their appetite, leading to malnutrition when not properly managed. Make sure aged people with small appetites will get the needed calories daily with the aged care food menu, alongside high-calorie additions as part of their meals. These can include olive oil, cheese, and butter. Low-calorie snacks would also essentially satisfy hunger while curbing cravings. So, keep these essential considerations when choosing an aged care food menu!

‘Obesity is highly misunderstood; people usually equate food with weight gain’: Dr Aparna Govil Bhasker
Since obesity is a silent killer and a precursor to many diseases like that of the heart, PCOD, joint-related problems and more, bariatric surgery has increased worldwide, said Dr. Aparna Govil Bhasker, bariatric surgeon. And just like any other surgery, bariatric surgery – a type of weight loss surgery – requires certain diet and lifestyle changes. But that doesn’t mean you have to go without your favorite foods, and that’s exactly what the expert shared in her new book Bariatric Recipes – A Global Cookbook from India, co-authored with her team and by nutritionist Mariam. written by Lakdawala and Miloni Shah Sancheti.
“Diet and nutrition are an integral part of any culture and the goal of bariatric surgery shouldn’t take the pleasure of dieting, “said Dr. Aparna and announced that you can find 85 recipes in the book, including for grams of dal and cabbage pancakes, ragi tikkis, healthy sliders.
“When it comes to nutrition after bariatric surgery, there are many recipe books in the western world that can help patients. Until now, no such food source has been available to Indian patients. Indian diet is unique and different from its western counterpart. So the recipes in this book will go a long way in helping patients cope with post-surgery demands, ”she added.
Excerpts:
What led to the conception of the book?
This book is a great resource for patients who have had bariatric surgery. There is a major dietary change after surgery and nutritional progression includes a liquid diet for 15 days, followed by a semi-solid diet for an additional 15 days, and then a normal solid diet. With over 15 years of experience, we’ve seen our patients struggle to find interesting meal options for each stage of the diet. So we considered creating a resource that would make post-bariatric care easier and more enjoyable. These recipes are healthy and can be tried by anyone, including those who have not had an operation.
There is a common misconception that you cannot enjoy food after having bariatric surgery. The surgery leads the patient to a healthier diet and lifestyle. Eating is an integral part of our culture and the purpose of this book was to provide guidance on how to eat healthily and yet not take away the joy of eating. It is possible to cook and eat with joy even after bariatric surgery Weight loss.
On what basis were the recipes for the book selected?
All recipes were contributed by qualified dietitians from around the world. The recipes are divided into three types – liquid, semi-solid and solid recipes. They were because of her nutritionally Composition. The focus of every recipe is on high protein and fewer fat and calories per serving.
Obesity is known as the “silent killer”; can you explain?
Obesity is mistakenly perceived as self-inflicted, and often a person with obesity is viewed as responsible. It still doesn’t evoke the same level of sympathy as other diseases like heart disease or cancer. obesity has a negative effect on the body – from head to toe. People with obesity are at higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, fat metabolism, lung and liver diseases, joint problems, PCOD, infertility, gout and so on. Obesity leads to a poor quality of life and is also associated with many psychological problems. There is a huge void when it comes to a deeper understanding of obesity. People still don’t consider it a disease, so they usually delay finding treatment. As with any other disease, early treatment is key and delayed treatment is denied, resulting in poorer outcomes.
Here’s why obesity is the leading cause of other diseases. (Source: Getty Images / Thinkstock)
What is bariatric surgery all about?
Bariatric surgery is currently the only effective therapy for weight loss in people with severe obesity. It also leads to a significant improvement in all obesity-related comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, PCOD, joint problems, and liver disease.
The mere mention of the word “surgery” is enough to instill fear in people. However, the operation is much more advanced and safer in the 21st century. Bariatric surgery is now performed laparoscopically, which involves 4 to 5 tiny incisions in the sub-centimeter range. laparoscopy is one of the friendliest innovations in surgery, resulting in less pain and earlier recovery. Most patients are discharged within 48 hours of surgery and can return to work within a week. Bariatric surgery is just as safe as any other operation. In fact, the complication rate of bariatric surgery is lower than that of other major surgeries.
What role does diet play in treating lifestyle disorders such as obesity?
Obesity is multifactorial. An unhealthy diet is one of the factors that contribute to weight gain in people predisposed to obesity. Of the 12 or so factors known to cause obesity, there are only a few that we can modify. We cannot change genetic factors. However, diet, physical activity, stress management and sleep hygiene are, to a certain extent, in our hands. Hence, a healthy diet and lifestyle is an important part of the treatment Strategy in dealing with obesity.
How important is it to lose weight under expert guidance?
Obesity needs to be treated early. But please do not be fooled by all the information on the Internet and turn to qualified weight loss professionals. Expert guidance is required for effective treatment.
How is diet after bariatric surgery different from normal home-cooked meals? Is it possible for everyone to hug?
After bariatric surgery, diet progression includes liquid food for 15 days, semi-solid food for the next 15 days, followed by normal solid food. However, patients cannot consume large amounts at once. The portions are limited and therefore the recipes included in the diet should be more nutritious and at the same time lower in calories. In this recipe collection, we have made sure that these requirements are met.
What are the most important points in post-bariatric nutrition?
Some important rules of a post-bariatric diet are: * The diet must consist of nutrient-rich foods. * Foods high in protein and fiber must be added to every meal. * The hydration must be maintained. * Healthy eating habits must be encouraged – eat slowly, chew well, avoid drinking liquids with meals, do not skip meals or take long breaks between meals. * Mindful eating must be encouraged.
Can people who want to lose weight also try these recipes?
Yes, these recipes can be included in the diet of those looking to lose or maintain weight. But a healthy diet alone is not enough. It definitely needs to be accompanied by physical activity, good quality sleep, and stress management techniques to keep any lifestyle-related illnesses at bay.
What are the myths about obesity in India?
Myth 1: Obesity is not a disease Obesity has emerged as one of the biggest killers of this century and urgent action is needed to contain this pandemic. Myth 2: Eating less is the only solution to weight loss Obesity is widely misunderstood and people typically equate food with weight gain. That is only partially true. In recent years we have moved away from this doctrine and we now know that obesity is multifactorial and that food is only one factor responsible for the disease process. Therefore, the solution cannot focus on food and nutrition alone. The obesity treatment strategy must be multi-pronged.
Myth 3: Those who weigh more are well nourished Obesity is the other end of the malnutrition spectrum and most of them have several Nutritional deficiencies. Excessive fat accumulation can lead to multiple deficiencies such as vitamin D, iron and also has an undesirable impact on bone health. Myth 4: A big belly is a sign of happiness and prosperity A big belly actually means poor health. People with big belly have higher levels of visceral fat, which can make them more prone to metabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes. Myth 5: Obesity is the result of lack of willpower and lethargy This is one of the biggest myths and in the current scenario I would say that it shows the lack of understanding of the disease. Obesity has nothing to do with willpower or lethargy. Mostly these are the aftereffects of obesity and not the other way around.

What are other precautions a post-bariatric patient should take?
Patients after bariatric surgery have a very rewarding journey ahead of them. Some of the things to take care of are- * Focus on healthy eating * Have small portion sizes, chew well, and eat slowly. * You are not allowed to combine food and liquid * You need to stay away from sugar and high calorie Food * Avoid carbonated drinks whenever possible * You need to try to get 40-45 minutes of moderate exercise 4 to 5 times a week * Be regular with nutritional supplements * Maintain regular follow-up care with the bariatric team

Many people attribute this weight reduction effectiveness to poor self-discipline on the part of the dieter, but current research has proven that the problem is more complicated than this. A 2011 look at inside the new england journal of drugs showed that losing weight adjustments the way the frame produces hormones associated with metabolism. this means that people who attempt to lessen are hungrier and suffer from higher appetite tiers than they did before the weight-loss. This lasts for as a minimum twelve months after weight-loss, making it a long way greater tough for someone who has dieted to maintain a lower weight than it's miles for a person who has never passed through a weight-lossdiet.

Who have to lessen?
Studies show that if you have diabetes, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, or high ldl cholesterol, your condition will in all likelihood enhance if you lose about 10 percentage of your frame weight. losing greater weight than this doesn't appear to offer extra benefit, even though it can assist you wear smaller garments. if you have any of these conditions, it is crucial to be careful how you lose the load and to do it only along side right weight-loss plan and everyday exercise. these seem to be the most important elements of staying wholesome, no matter how tons weight you convey.

5 Ways Celiac Disease Has Shaped Who I Am Today
New blog post!
When I was diagnosed with celiac disease around age 16, I had no idea that one simple word in my medical file would change a lot of my life. But as years have passed, I've realized that my celiac disease diagnosis transformed way more than just what I ate. It also, well, shaped a lot of who I am today - partially, perhaps, because I was diagnosed right at a typical coming-of-age point in my life. But also because celiac disease simply affects way more than just people's diets.
So in honor of living with celiac disease for over six years, I thought I'd share five ways that celiac disease has shaped who I am today. So if you're newly diagnosed and feel like a lot is changing...know that a lot of these changes are positive in the end. And if you're a veteran celiac and haven't taken time to reflect how celiac disease has changed your life, maybe now is the time.
1. Celiac disease helped me discover that I love trying new foods and cooking.
Like I've talked about before, I actually eat a waaaaaay more varied diet now than I did before being diagnosed with celiac disease. When gluten left the picture, it forced me to explore tons of (naturally) gluten free foods I had never tried. Avocado. Japanese sweet potato. Jasmine rice. Quinoa. Kimchi. The list seriously goes on and on, considering that I was a pretty plain eater before celiac disease. And once I moved to college and eventually couldn't eat at my college cafeteria...I had some pretty dang good motivation to learn how to cook: this girl had to eat! So I soon went from barely knowing how to make a baked potato to whipping up homemade gluten free pizza and vegan mac and cheese. Now that I'm in grad school, I don't have much time to whip up creative - or even just different - meals each day. But that doesn't mean I'm not grateful for how comfortable celiac disease has made me feel in the kitchen.
Find the recipe for these delicous vegan and gluten free cupcakes on Instagram!
2. Celiac disease motivated me to start this blog...which has connected me to thousands of people and several jobs.
I pretty much started this blog on a whim...and sometimes it's hard to believe that I'm still here, six years later. It's equally hard to believe how many people I've connected with through this blog or on social media channels over the years. I know that when I was diagnosed with celiac disease and about to leave for college in a few months, I was desperate to find someone who had already been through the same situation. At that time, I couldn't. And my biggest hope is that I can be that someone for people with celiac disease about to start college now. So if you read this blog regularly, thank you. And if you've ever messaged me to ask a question, say I've helped you in some way or just share your own experience...you're the reason why I'm still here. And on a less emotional note...starting this blog has also helped me, career-wise. In fact, I've gotten several jobs partly due to my experience with blogging. I don't know what the future holds for me after I graduate with a Masters in Fine Arts this coming May. But I think my experience with - and discovered passion for - blogging and connecting with people online will definitely have helped pave my way.
3. Celiac disease changed my college experience, for better and for worse.
To be completely honest, my freshman year of college kinda sucked. I was struggling from celiac complications and was eventually hospitalized for malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies when my weight plummeted to 83 lbs. I was sickly skinny, drinking a liquid diet instead of eating food at one point, and I was soon known as "that gluten free girl" on campus. But as hard as that year was...the rest of college was pretty good. I fell in love and got my heart broken. I picked a major and a minor, changed the minor, and took classes that I still think about today, and ones that I purged from my mind as soon as I finished my final exam. And I made friends with other students with dietary restrictions...and with people who knew about my "special diet" and just saw it as a minor personality quirk.
I don't know what college would've been like if I'd never been diagnosed with celiac disease. I would've been able to go to pizza parties without feeling awkward about bringing my own food, and I definitely would've had more free time without needing to cook my own food. But I walked across that graduation stage with a decent amount of good memories, a whole lotta new knowledge, and way more strength and determination than I would've thought possible. And I think that's all anyone can ask for from their college experience.
4. Celiac disease triggered changes in my family's diet too.
I wouldn't say that my family ate an unhealthy diet before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, but in the years that have passed since my diagnosis, our weekly family dinners have changed a ton. First of all, my mom went gluten free with me and discovered that a gluten free diet drastically improved her fibromyalgia pain. As time has gone by, though, my family has also started experimenting with less beef, more vegetables, more farm-raised sources of meat and less processed foods overall. I'm not saying that my family eats perfectly - or even that there is a "perfect" or "best" or "healthiest" way to eat. But it has been pretty dang cool to see how my celiac diagnosis has helped my family think a bit more about their own diets and find foods that make them feel their best.
5. Celiac disease makes me grateful for every day that I do feel healthy and for all the people who helped me get there.
The biggest way celiac disease has shaped who I am today? It has shaped my mindset. I still have days when I get frustrated with my body (especially when my stomach starts to suddenly act up and I have a food baby, 24/7) and wonder if life would feel a lot easier with a "normal" body. But I try to remember... ....how lucky I am to have a disease that can be treated by the food I choose to eat, and how fortunate I was to be diagnosed quickly by my very thorough family doctor. ...how people who know me very well - like my parents and family - and people who didn't know me at all - like countless peers in college and strangers met online - all played a role in helping me find my version of healthy with celiac disease. ...and how far my body has taken me. I've lost a fourth of my body weight, and gained it back. I've gone from being so weak, I could barely walk up hills to class, to lifting almost half my body weight at the gym.
The Biggest Way Celiac Disease Has Made Me Who I Am Today
Honestly, I sometimes wonder who I would be if I didn't have celiac disease and fibromyalgia. Would I eat fast food more often and not enjoy cooking? Would I still be a blogger, albeit with a different focus? How would my relationships be different - if at all? At the end of the day, I'll never know the answer to those questions. And I'm learning to be OK with that. Life is full of quick moments and small decisions that end up changing our whole lives...and my celiac disease diagnosis is just one of many. So I'm going to treat it like any other stepping stone that sets me up for what I was truly meant to do, whatever that ends up being. This is me. This version of me happens to have celiac disease. And I'm gonna rock life with celiac disease and all the quirks it's given me. How has your chronic illness shaped who you are today? I'd love to hear in the comments!

Effects of Insufficient Caloric Consumption & Purging - Essay
To function at its base capacity; the human body requires a minimum caloric intake. For myself, it’s 1500 calories. Anything below that bottom line is detrimental to the health of the body, especially so when paired with purging. Purging on its own is damaging enough; but the two factors working in tandem don’t bode well for the long term health and stability of the body and the mind. On the surface, neither seems entirely life-threatening; the average human can live around three weeks without sustenance, so surely if you’re taking in a couple hundred fewer calories here and there, it wouldn’t cause much of an issue. The following is exactly the reason the above has no basis in fact.
Over a short period - as short as a few hours - the effects of not consuming enough calories can be felt. On average, most people have a resting metabolic rate a little higher than a thousand calories a day; meaning that without the addition of exercise or strenuous activity, the body will burn the aforementioned calories on basic functions, including breathing; etc. If the bare minimum isn’t being met, that means the body is being deprived of the fuel it needs and that will slow down the metabolic rate; which is actually a step backwards if weight loss is the goal. Slowing the metabolic rate will cause either a plateau in loss or an increase in weight as the body, for all intents and purposes, is being starved. Any food ingested during this time is immediately packed away and stored.
Fatigue is another rapid onset symptom of low caloric intake; without the necessary amount of fuel even day-to-day tasks become an event, as the available stores of energy are lower than they should be. Even when feeling fatigued, though, sleeping will likely prove to be a difficult task. According to an article on Healthline, research studied on animals and humans linked starvation-level calorie restriction lead to an increase in sleep interruptions as well as a reduction in slow-wave sleep, or deep sleep. Slow wave sleep is believed to be a recovery period for the brain to rest from the days activities, but it also is a period within the sleep cycle that works heavily with memory. This includes what’s known as memory consolidation, a step in the process of information stored in short-term memory progressing on into long-term memory. The potential of memory loss aside, sleep in and of itself can become a serious issue if prolonged deprivation occurs. Unfortunately, that doesn’t simply mean insufficient sleep entirely. By regularly not meeting a minimum of seven hours each night, the risk of things like heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke increase exponentially.
While it’s pretty obvious that, without consuming enough calories, that also means the intake of necessary vitamins and minerals is below the daily recommended values; less obvious may be the consequences that follow. Hair loss is a big issue when it comes to malnutrition. It’s normal to lose a couple strands of hair daily, however if the body is not being nourished, it will begin to prioritize the allocation of its available nutrients to the organs and other vital parts; and with hair being at the bottom of the non-essential pecking order? It’s an easily expendable sacrifice to maintain and preserve the more important functionalities. Not eating/not eating enough will quickly domino into other issues, some of which may not be expected but can certainly affect day-to-day interactions.
These symptoms and side effects aren’t pleasant, but they certainly aren’t as bad as they could be, not yet at least. This is an early stage along in the process and the easiest time to act before anything becomes a hard set habit.
Long-term malnutrition lends itself into worse territory, of course, as it’s had the chance to manifest into prolonged damage that may or may not be reversed. People that are malnourished tend to have rapid or irregular heart rates, but that’s only the beginning stages of what’s to come. In it’s weakened state, the heart becomes susceptible to various diseases and afflictions. Half of the deaths related to anorexia nervosa are sudden cardiac deaths; caused by deadly arrhythmias known as ventricular fibrillation. Another precursor to these arrhythmias is cardiomyopathy; the literal meaning being “sick heart”. Cardiac myocytes are the muscle cells that make up the musculature of the heart. The process of starvation causes these cells to atrophy and decay, like any muscle that isn’t getting its proper use and nutrition. Most of these conditions can be reversed with the proper rehabilitation if caught early on, however due to the unpredictable nature of things like heart attacks, there is no guarantee that healing will have the chance to overcome the damage in time.
Prolonged malnutrition spells bad news for more than just the heart. Self-preservation is always the top priority of the body, meaning it will continue trying to adapt and preserve as long as it can. After about 6 hours without food, glycogen, the body’s main and preferred energy source runs out. So, it enters ketosis and begins attacking at the fatty acids for energy by turning them into ketones. This works for everything aside from the brain, as the fats are too large to pass through the blood-brain barrier, so the brain continues to last off of the remaining glucose stores. Normally, the brain requires 120g of glucose a day, but can adapt and shifts down to only 30g a day, the rest fueled by the ketones now that they’ve been broken down enough to pass through the barrier. Autophagy is next, after the fat stores have been burned through. Now, the body is beginning to break down its proteins, cannibalizing its muscle mass, resulting in the thinning of the walls of the heart; treated like just another muscle. All this relates to starvation, but if a person isn’t meeting their minimum calorie requirements, this process can still be set in motion; and will still pose a real threat.
Anything done with enough frequency is going to become a pattern. Its human nature to seek them out. The problem with this, however, is the logic moves from “only once a week” to “a couple days a week” and on and on until it's an everyday, hour by hour obsession. But because it’s happening daily? It becomes normal routine; easy. That tends to lead rather rapidly into developing an eating disorder, because the behavior has been normalized, it makes it easier to become more restrictive and extreme. Once a disorder is in place, that cycle becomes even more difficult to break, and adds a great deal more peril to the situation. Anorexia nervosa, for example, can become somewhat of a silent killer. Simply, and without much oversight, anorexia can go undiagnosed for a myriad of reasons. Typically, due to societal prejudices, a person who is obese that may be struggling with anorexia won’t have an eye batted in their direction, as people tend to focus on physical appearance to diagnose such things. With that, since the body is so adept in handling almost all the stress caused by eating disorders, lab results can appear near perfect even on a patient near death. As mentioned above, things like sudden heart failure can occur just as they say; suddenly and without much of a warning.
Unsurprisingly, the common theme with all these symptoms is the longer a person goes malnourished, the more symptoms and issues they develop; the closer they move towards death. That’s the long term of under-consuming calories.
Purging is a different head on the same beast. Self-induced vomiting, use of laxatives, etc. following a meal is known as purging disorder. It differs from bulimia nervosa; bulimia is the act of binge eating large quantities of food and purging after to avoid weight gain. Atypical bulimia - or purging disorder - is purging without the binge. Diagnosing this disorder can be difficult, in part because it’s studied less as it isn’t considered an independent diagnosis in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition); but also in the fact that the signs aren’t always as obvious as they are with other eating disorders.
As far as the short term goes, the effects fall relatively in line with similar disorders. Focusing in on vomiting, the effects on the body begin immediately after the act is done. Because it’s interrupting the process of digestion, this form of purging interferes with normal stomach emptying and digestion of nutrients. Frequent vomiting weakens the muscles of the stomach and can lead to a condition called gastroparesis; which affects the motility of these muscles. Motility refers to the normal spontaneous movement of these muscles; these strong contractions are what propels food through the digestive tract. Gastroparesis either slows down or completely stops the stomach’s ability to empty properly, causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and issues with blood sugar levels and nutrition. Currently, there is no cure, just dietary changes that may help with discomfort.
Dehydration is another concern, as purging via vomiting is a rapid expulsion of fluids; in most cases it doesn’t happen only once a day. The constant draining takes a toll, especially so since through normal activities the body can lose upwards of 4 liters a day of overall water content. Now, when the body is losing water from its main supply, it’s not a contained event, it can and does affect a great deal of other workings and functions. Losing water content can actually decrease blood volume. Should the body lose one-fifth or more of this total supply, it becomes impossible for the heart to pump a sufficient amount of blood because the volume simply isn’t there. The life-threatening condition is known as hypovolemic shock, and while it’s able to be treated, it requires immediate medical attention, without intervention it will continue to damage and deteriorate tissues and organs until death.
Perhaps not as life threatening, but still serious as it’s important for day to day interactions, is the effect purging has regarding the mouth. Stomach acid is highly corrosive, and while effective at breaking down food material, it’s perfectly adept as doing the same to the structures of the mouth. The acids eat away at the enamel of the teeth, which isn’t something that can be restored. It can give the teeth a glassy appearance, and because the enamel is gone or weakened, they are all the more susceptible to cavities. With enough repetition, the acids will change the strength, color, and even length of teeth; almost all of which are unable to be reversed. Sores can form also, as the acid isn’t picky what it eats through, making the gums and lining of the mouth just as much at risk for being damaged. Open sores leave room for infection, but more than that make it painful to do basic things like eating, drinking, and even speaking.
One of the few things that can actually be fixed or can go away if the purging stops, is inflammation to the salivary glands. Salivary glands serve to produce the enzyme-rich saliva that both aids in swallowing and in beginning the food breakdown for the digestion process. Saliva is also in part responsible for protecting teeth from decay. Stomach acids are highly irritating, as observed above, and they can cause the glands to flare up and give the face a puffy appearance as they swell around the jaw and cheeks.
Even though these effects occur within a short window; once purging begins, almost all of them are equal parts irreversible as they are life threatening.
Left to go on, things only get worse for the body as purging continues. As explained before, stomach acid is a highly aggressive corrosive agent, and the throat isn’t spared as stomach contents travel up and out. For an act that happens multiple times a day, on a daily basis; the lining of the esophagus wasn’t made for such wear and tear and it certainly doesn’t hold up well to it. Esophageal mucosa is the inner lining of the esophagus that protects it from wear and tear. It acts similarly to the gastric mucosa, or the inner-lining of the stomach. Both are there as a barrier between the organs themselves and gastric acid full of protein-dissolving enzymes. But, the major difference is the gastric mucosa is much thicker and more quickly replenished and restored as it’s meant to be in constant contact with this acid. In the case of the esophagus, however, it is not meant to have daily interactions with stomach acid and cannot protect itself as well as such. Once the acid makes it through that lining, it starts to attack the esophagus and will lead to esophagitis. Inflammation, ulcers, and even the narrowing and scarring of the esophagus itself are the results of esophagitis; left untreated will only continue to worsen.
The weaker it gets, the more likely it is the esophagus will tear or burst altogether, and even more likely if the purging behavior continues on. The Mallory-Weiss tear, most common from behavior like this, occurs in the esophageal lining near where the stomach and the esophagus connect. It may heal on its own, but if the tear is bad enough it will require surgery, as in particular it’s associated with significant bleeding. A burst, or rupture, is worse. Should the esophagus rupture, it will allow air, stomach acid and/or food to invade the chest cavity, and can cause any number of issues, like pleural effusion where fluid begins to pool around the lungs.
Ulcers can present all along the gastrointestinal tract, even down within the intestines. Since long-term purging disrupts the natural process of digestion and can lead to constipation, it means there’s an excess of gastric acid building in the stomach with nowhere to go and nothing to digest. When it sits long enough, it eats through the mucous membranes and begins dissolving the lining of the organs, leading to painful sores. Being as violent as it is, continuous vomiting can actually burst blood vessels within the face, leading to blotchy red dot-like rashes that can sprout up on the cheeks, forehead, eyelids, the whites of the eyes, and even within the mouth along the lining. Typically, it will dissipate within a few days; unless the behavior continues in which it will heal and re-rupture, the affected areas potentially becoming larger with time.
Earlier discussed in the short term effects of purging disorder, it was mentioned the gastric acid weakens and dissolves important layers of teeth, making them brittle. However, these aren’t the only bones that are weakened from purging. Calcium is vital to bone strength, and it’s one of many nutrients necessary to the body that don’t get the chance to get where they are needed; purging completely hinders that process of absorption. Hence, with enough time the bones throughout the body become brittled, developing into osteopenia. A less severe version of osteoporosis; osteopenia is a condition where the body does not generate new bone as quickly as old bone is reabsorbed. This weakened state lends itself to an increased probability of fractures, severe chronic pain, and chances of shifting posture into a more stooped manner. It can be managed with medication and a change in diet, but it is not curable once developed. Left unchecked and untreated, and without treatment for the base issue of purging, osteopenia will continue to degrade the bones until they reach the point of osteoporosis, no longer just weakened but riddled with holes. Also a progressive disease, it’s often not even diagnosed until the first fracture occurs.
Wrapped up together, consuming a dangerously low calorie count and the act of purging after meals - without the binge beforehand - can both be wrapped up into the title of purging disorder. While it’s not fully researched and recognized as its own issue, it does fall in the line of what is recognized as an eating disorder. The symptoms may vary, but most ED’s stem from the same areas of mental warfare. Body image is the driving force with majority of eating disorders, and though times have begun to shift out of the mindset that body image is everything, popular culture is still heavily influenced by cultural standards of attractiveness. ED’s feed off of negative emotions and thought processes, which is why it’s a hard cycle to break. An affected person may feel like the disorder is the only thing keeping their head above water, that this routine is what’s keeping them going, when if fact it’s continuing to nurture their self loathing. It affects every thought, to the point where everything runs around the need to fulfill the disorder.
Depression isn’t exclusive to purging disorder, certainly, yet it is an effect and can be developed. The brain relies on calorie consumption to function with the levels of glucose required in performing at peak capacity, though along with that the emotional centers of the brain are influenced by the nutrients it receives. With that, someone who doesn't consume enough calories or purges before any nutrients can be absorbed, they become more prone to experiencing low moods. Usually, it will present as low energy, irritability, and being more prone to anger. Panic, too, has its place among under consumption of calories. Not eating enough puts stress on the body, and one of its predispositions to coping lies in panic attacks. As with its other systems, the body’s processes for handling stress are interrupted without adequate fuel to keep everything balanced. Consequently, if those systems are unbalanced, that means in the scenario that stress happens, the body isn’t able to process and the likelihood of panic attacks from common stressors are increased. These mental effects are some of the most lasting. Maybe it won’t kill as quickly as a heart complication, but they certainly don’t help.
I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life. When I was younger, my older brother tormented me about it. Telling my parents resulted in a conversation about ignoring him and ‘doing something to fix myself’. I purged here and there around those times, but it wasn’t anything with real commitment. Recently I started being more mindful about my calories, counting what I ate in a day and slowly modifying things here and there. But, it became something more. I started counting my gum, and then if I took medication I was looking up if there were calories in that. I justified things to myself, bargaining here and there, taking more and more off of my total intake and getting excited the lower it got. Once I started purging again I figured I had an issue; I didn’t care. I didn’t feel good, but I felt better. Like this was something only I could control, and no one could interfere unless I allowed it. I’m doing better now, but I still have the urges. Despite the research and what I’ve learned, it’s tempting for that small bit of power it grants.
Ultimately, though, not consuming the caloric minimum the body needs for basic functionality with the repeated cycle of purging sets the body in motion for total system failure and eventually death. Most of the complications with purging disorder and eating disorders in general can be reversed or managed if they are caught early enough, so it’s not a death sentence outright. Regardless of anything else, the only way to get better is to want to, and to take steps to get there.

Late Stage Kidney Disease Eating Tips
There is no question that managing your diet during late stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be overwhelming. Depending on the stage of your kidney disease nutrition requirements will vary. During late stage (stage 4) kidney disease the primary goal is to prevent overworking the kidneys. Taking additional stress off of your kidneys by limiting the accumulation of fluids and waste products can help protect the kidneys. Your nephrologist and dietitian can help develop a personalized diet plan to help prevent the progression of your kidney disease. The CKD diet is important in preserving your remaining kidney function for as long as possible. When you approach late stage 4 or stage 5 it’s important to consider options for dialysis or transplant.

  Nutrient Recommendations
Protein
Protein is an important part of everyone’s diet, particularly for those with kidney disease. Depending on your kidney function the amount of protein you need will vary. The correct amount as recommended by a healthcare provider can help to prevent malnutrition or over nutrition. For late stage kidney disease a low protein diet is most often recommended.   Although we all need protein in our diets, too much protein creates additional waste products in the blood which can build up when the kidneys do not work properly. Not only can these waste products accumulate to cause fatigue and loss of appetite, they can lead to an increased workload on your kidneys. By limiting protein and the need to remove this waste product your kidneys will have less strain.
Speak to a dietitian or healthcare provider about the right amount of protein for you. The amount will vary based on your stage of kidney disease, lab work and body size. If a low protein diet is recommended, you may need to include additional foods such as healthy carbohydrates and healthy fats to ensure your daily calorie needs are met. Consuming enough calories is critical in preventing weight loss and maintaining nutritional status.
Adequate Calories
Poor appetite and decline in overall intake can be a common side effect for those with late stage kidney disease. This can quickly turn into a downward spiral of malnutrition if not followed closely. With progression of kidney disease the increased buildup of toxins can cause altered taste and decrease in appetite leading to weight loss. It is important to include adequate calories daily to maintain your energy levels and weight. Talk to your dietitian or health care provider about changes in your appetite or intake. Calorie restriction should only be followed under medical advice if overweight or obese.
Restricting nutrients such as protein can also lead to lower daily caloric intake. Adequate intake can be achieved by including healthy fats, nutritious carbohydrates and other high calorie foods. Include extra healthy fats such as olive and canola oils, nuts and nut butters and avocados. Nuts and avocado are limited if you are on a low potassium diet. You can add healthy carbohydrates such as fruits and whole grain breads, pastas and cereals.
To ensure adequate intake you may need to change your normal meal routine from three larger meals to 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day. Including high calorie foods and nutrition supplementation may be necessary. By limiting foods with little caloric and nutritionally value such as water, coffee and diet soda you can allow for more nutritious, higher calorie foods. Gradually increasing your intake can help your appetite to jumpstart and hopefully start eating more as a part of your daily routine. Make sure you talk to a dietitian about the best way to add extra calories.
Salt
Limiting salt is important for the general population, especially those with kidney disease.  The consumption of too much salt can lead to retention of sodium and fluids in your body which cause additional work on your kidneys. Increased levels of sodium and fluids also lead to a rise in blood pressure. This dangerous cycle of high blood pressure causes additional breakdown of kidney function.  High salt intake can also lead to swelling (edema), heart failure and shortness of breath. If you have kidney disease it is critical to limit your intake of sodium.
Consult with your dietitian or healthcare provider about restricting sodium in your diet. There are numerous resources available for following a low salt diet. One of the most popular and well researched low-sodium diets is the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).  The National Kidney Foundation among others promotes this diet to help lower blood pressure and protect against heart disease. This diet focuses primarily on fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds and nuts. The DASH diet is also low in salt, added sugars and sweets, fat and red meats.
Potassium, Phosphorus and Calcium
Your nephrologist or health care provider will monitor your blood work and evaluate your lab values to make sure your potassium, phosphorus and calcium levels are in recommended ranges. Your kidney plays an important role in regulating these minerals in your body. With kidney disease you may need to limit or add additional foods to keep these labs in the recommended ranges.
Other Dietary Considerations
Vegetarian Diet
A vegetarian diet may be helpful in slowing the progression of your kidney disease and associated complications of CKD as shown in research studies. The consumption of a plant-based diet has shown to lower protein in the urine, improve blood pressure and lessen the amount of tissue damage in the kidneys. A plan- based diet has been avoided in the past due to the potential for increase in potassium and phosphorus levels in CKD patients. However, following a vegetarian diet is possible when you have CKD if executed correctly while monitoring these nutrient levels.
Acid-Base Balance
Research has also evaluated the importance of regulating metabolic acidosis in the body to prolong kidney function. Acidosis causes a low pH in the blood and tissues. Metabolic acidosis is a combination of low pH and low bicarbonate levels in the blood. Low levels of bicarbonate have demonstrated negative outcomes for kidney patients, including the progression of kidney disease and higher bone breakdown. To reduce the dietary acid load, it is recommended to include more fruits and vegetables while obtaining protein from milk, yogurt and soy protein products. Since fruits, vegetables and dairy products can affect your potassium levels and dairy your phosphorus levels, it is important to work with your dietitian or other health care provider to ensure your potassium and phosphorus levels stay in a safe range.
Delaying Progression
To sustain kidney function it is important to consider the cause(s) of your kidney disease.  If you have diabetes or high blood pressure it is important to manage these conditions. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease, followed by hypertension. If uncontrolled, both of these conditions can cause further breakdown of remaining kidney function.
Diabetes
If you have diabetes, it is important to manage your blood sugars. Talk to your doctor about the best range for you. High levels of sugars (glucose) in your blood can cause damage your kidneys. Improving diabetes control can help slow the progression of kidney disease. Your doctor can help you manage your diabetes with an oral medication or insulin and a diabetes diet. A dietitian can help you to follow a meal plan to manage diabetes while incorporating recommendations for kidney disease as well.
Hypertension
Like high blood sugars, high blood pressure or hypertension is damaging to your kidneys. The increased pressure to your blood vessels creates an additional workload to your kidney. Talk to your doctor about managing your hypertension. A combination of medications and a low-sodium diet can be extremely helpful in managing your blood pressure. By choosing lower sodium foods and taking your high blood pressure medication as prescribed you can improve management of high blood pressure.
Taking Control
Although the CKD diet can help slow the progression of kidney disease, it will not cure kidney disease.  Other lifestyle choices such as taking prescribed medications, following a physician approved exercise regimen, and not smoking can help keep you healthier longer. By following up with your nephrologist, dietitian and other healthcare providers you can develop a plan. Stick with it to keep your kidneys and your body as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

What the Diet program Business Is just not Telling You About Fat Reduction
niečo na chudnutie At any supplied time, additional than half of U.S. residents are hoping to shed weight. With overall overall body weights increasing, along with the charges of diseases that have been correlated with greater weights, numerous men and women truly feel that dieting is their only choice for good well being. Sad to say, not all people who wants to lessen is performing it in a nutritious way. Weight decline is an market really worth much more than $sixty billion dollars in the United States, and much of that industry is committed to promoting goods relatively than maintaining folks healthful. Here is a search at what you may possibly not know about shedding fat. Forms of Excess weight Loss Techniques There are several procedures accessible for attempting to eliminate fat. Restrictive eating plans are among the best-publicized. These consist of calorie restriction, in an attempt to acquire in a lot less electricity than you expend, as very well as diet programs that limit food items by form, these as low-body fat, minimal-carbohydrate and reduced-sugar weight loss plans. In addition to employing restrictive diets, some folks also attempt to significantly raise their activity. This has a equivalent result to that of a calorie-proscribing eating plan, but it boosts the volume of power invested somewhat than decreasing what goes in. Enhanced action tends to demand larger agenda and life style modifications than basically modifying your taking in behavior, but it arrives with additional positive aspects such as greater toughness and better cardiovascular well being. Very last, and perhaps a lot more successful for the bodyweight loss marketplace, are products, supplements and other merchandise supposed to make fat reduction. These consist of diet program supplements, natural bodyweight decline nutritional supplements containing acai, African mango and a variety of other substances, in addition belts and other equipment. The standard theory behind some of these products has been revealed to enable with reduction when it is merged with other mainstream strategies, but the vast majority of diet program tablets and other goods will not do substantially to help. They can even be hazardous to your health. Weight decline Success With far more than 50 % of the populace paying out awareness to bodyweight, you would be expecting the lbs . to be coming off. Most persons, however, are encountering small to no bodyweight transform. Some people even come across that their body weight goes up right after they endeavor to decrease. Based on the analyze, data show that among 30 and sixty per cent of dieters not only get back all the excess weight they drop when dieting, they truly become even heavier than they had been in advance of they commenced the diet program. These designs maintain accurate throughout a vast spectrum of fat-decline tactics. Only about ten percent of all dieters are capable to preserve their loss after various yrs, no subject how much body weight was missing during the dieting time period. Out of men and women who do lose bodyweight successfully, the most viable focus on is a reduction of about ten per cent of their optimum body weight. That is the amount encouraged by the National Institutes of Well being for persons who are obese or chubby. Dropping additional than this can be difficult and is seldom effective. A lot of people attribute this lack of success to poor willpower on the aspect of the dieter, but current analysis has shown that the issue is a lot more advanced than this. A 2011 review in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that getting rid of weight adjustments the way the body makes hormones associated with metabolic process. This signifies that men and women who try to lessen are hungrier and endure from increased urge for food degrees than they did just before the loss. This lasts for at the very least a single year soon after weight loss, building it much a lot more difficult for another person who has dieted to preserve a decrease fat than it is for a person who has under no circumstances gone through a fat decline program. Hazards of Dieting It is not just bad premiums of success that make fat loss a difficult matter. Trying to get rid of unwanted fat can also be unsafe. This problem is increased with excessive diet plans that promise to consider off a great deal of bodyweight really quickly. These diets can stimulate loss of muscle mass rather of body fat. Diet regime drugs can bring about significant overall health issues, as well. These fat loss dietary supplements are usually produced to be taken for only a short period of time and typically consist of massive quantities of caffeine and other stimulants. This form of diet regime pill can raise anxiety and irritability, develop sleeplessness and other rest difficulties, and even bring about cardiovascular problems in persons with current heart weak spot. Extra fat blockers can produce intestinal discomfort and other digestive troubles. They can also produce malnutrition by blocking the body's capability to absorb essential nutritional vitamins and minerals. Diet regime capsules that get the job done as urge for food suppressants can raise your coronary heart price and blood pressure. Even herbal weight loss nutritional supplements can have unpleasant facet consequences, specially in individuals who are allergic to some of their substances. Excess weight Is just not Every little thing These inquiries about health and success are typically met with the assertion that fatness is fundamentally unhealthy, so everyone need to test to eliminate excess weight. In simple fact, whilst there are a number of disorders and ailments connected with larger weight, they are not always a immediate consequence of it. Although fat persons are significantly a lot more most likely to go through from diabetic issues, significant blood force and other metabolic troubles, the correlation lowers drastically if people fat persons are lively and take in a good diet plan. Thin, sedentary individuals are in fact at larger chance than men and women who are extra fat but otherwise in excellent physical issue. You may be excess fat and unhealthy, but your weight is just not the most significant component. Nonetheless, that won't mean that weight reduction is just not powerful. Who Ought to Minimize? Scientific studies demonstrate that if you have diabetes, pre-diabetic issues, high blood tension, or significant cholesterol, your problem will most likely boost if you eliminate about ten p.c of your entire body bodyweight. Losing more bodyweight than this will not appear to offer added profit, however it could aid you don lesser outfits. If you have any of these problems, it's essential to be thorough how you drop the fat and to do it only in conjunction with very good eating plan and regular exercise. These seem to be to be the most essential elements of remaining nutritious, no subject how much body weight you carry. The Healthiest Selection What the diet plan sector doesn't want you to know is that most diet capsules, excess weight loss nutritional supplements, and eating plan programs do not operate really very well and can even hurt your wellbeing a lot more than staying extra fat. If you happen to be interested in staying truly healthful, your greatest alternative for fat loss is to look at your action amount and the nutritional articles of your diet program. Function on generating refreshing veggies at the very least 50 percent of your diet and acquire up moderate workout at about a half hour for each working day. Which is what the U.S. govt endorses for optimum health.

Shelves, Models, & Economics
James Stanczak 11/19/2017
By 2050 the world must feed 9 billion people. The demand for food will be 60% greater than it is today.  Ending hunger and achieving food security while improving nutrition is a daunting task. Promoting sustainable agriculture is something the world must do together. The world must also provide dietary needs that provide longevity and health. Especially for those who have and will be developing food-related illnesses.
The risk of not addressing this challenge is a catastrophic- global- economic- failure, mass malnutrition, hunger, more nutrition-related illness like diabetes, poverty, and worsening global conflict.
By eliminating dietary needs and poverty, we eliminate misery among humans. By eliminating financial misery, we build physical, mental, social, and economic health among all individuals and communities. My passion is utilizing economics and modern technology to adopt efficient small business models that forge global partnerships under asset-backed currencies. Asset-backed currencies help build healthy jobs, real estate, and sustainable food supplies while contributing to solving dietary illnesses and poverty worldwide.
In order to prevent a total global economic collapse, we must allow all forms of agriculture to become the World's new sovereign economies.  The new economy must become sovereign, unlike the old economy that was backed by oil and wars. The new economy, backed by production and stores of agriculture creates an asset-backed digital currency. A currency backed and exchangeable by all forms of precious metals. Trade becomes certified hard-physical-collectors-value coins that support a sovereign blockchain currency that the treasure exchanges for agriculture. Thus promoting a gold rush of sustainable agriculture globally.
Exchange rates will apply to the higher qualities based on sustainability, natural qualities, safe, and beneficial aspects of agriculture. The more individuals in agriculture employ, the more they yield, the more they exchange in-store banks to either sell and distribute agriculture to dealers or to place in storehouses to distribute to those who are in demand. Those who are unable to produce or yield agriculture can find work and use among other means of talents to earn a wage and trade for the asset-backed blockchain. B will not stand for bitcoin but blockchain. You do not mine for it, you produce it.
Storehouses for agriculture will be set up by sovereign governments, not corporations, like a bank, to trade and exchange agriculture. Like storing corn, wheat, or frozen products. Those in agriculture can exchange product to sovereign government treasuries in government storehouses, in exchange for digital backed currency. The better the product the better the exchange. Instead of stocking up on oil, wars, greed, and legal battles, citizens and businesses will produce agriculture because it will become the most valuable source of trade. All individuals and businesses will always have a buyer and the buyer will always pay a good asset-backed sustainable wage. Assets and exchange will be of quality rather than quantity. Teachers and clerks and programmers will be paid in the asset-backed blockchain according to how much their skill contributes to the betterment of mankind through proving quality agriculture, health, medicine, real estate, education and overall goodness towards mankind. Ultimately precious metals backing the chain never will lose value as for each new coin made it will have collectors value. They will all be numbered and designed with artistic value and be .9999% of any metal copper, silver, nickel, gold, platinum etc...
All forms of small and big businesses will become agriculture based. Form education, to technology and from medical care to communications and mining. We base all forms of monetary backing on agriculture rather than fiat.  By backing a digital currency with quality sustainable agriculture and hard physical precious collectible assets, the main focus of trade becomes interchangeable and exchangeable with asset-backed sovereign blockchain cryptocurrency. This prevents corruption, and benefits every aspect of creating billions of new jobs, majority rule politics, and 99% of all global needs. Once implemented, we discover unity and peace among all peoples. Our goal should and must be benefiting all humans, exploration, science, peace, equality, and happiness for all.
The economies of the world can and will become sustainable by feeding the planet. By doing so we begin to addressing, employing, and keeping track of greenhouse gas emissions, water use, waste, and economic misery. Issues that plague all nations today.
The complexity of delivering a sufficient economy and proper food supply to the whole world’s population shows why sustainable, proper, and affordable meals are a priority for all humanity. We must approach this issue as sovereign nations, globally, and for all nations. For the betterment of all peoples, cultures, traditions, and beliefs. This is no doubt a global hurdle. It is not simply about food and feeding people. This concerns all levels of Planet Earth's economies, businesses, and our world's society as a whole.
The way Americans conduct business today is in a state of gestational birth. The world as a one belt one road society is in a phase of trying to figure out how to make the global economic situation better. In the process, like children managing an allowance in the candy store, the worlds top 1% have amassed nearly 51% of global wealth.  These very people are also the individuals who control corporate activities from store shelves, water supplies, news, and information.
While many things in today's world are positive and can be used to forward the betterment of mankind, the majority of mankind has been left behind and left unable to make an impact for the better. Sadly,  billions and billions of humans live each day worried about how they can amass more wealth to meet the needs of an economic world that can never be met.
By basing currency on beneficial and sustainable agriculture and good healthy equal lifestyles, we can defeat a never-ending battle with economic turmoil, misery, and financial and global uncertainty. Most humans fear the next bill or debt they have to pay because most are in debt. Many can not get medical or dental care that can heal and cure them of illnesses. Most do not qualify for a loan because either the percentages are too high or too low. They are uncertain that they can earn a wage to pay a debt.  By basing currency on agriculture, billions and billions have access to a good income and financial stability.
To solve: I am focusing on business that creates and generates local ways of growing foods that boost families economically and thrive local homes, small businesses and economies.

Protein Deficiency - An Introduction To An Uncommon Problem...
Americans are worried about getting enough protein from their diet.
Yet it is practically impossible to avoid getting enough protein if you are eating enough real food to get enough calories.
Meanwhile, the high-protein foods that many Americans think are nutritious are really our main causes of death and disability.
To live a longer, healthier life, Americans need to stop worrying about protein!
When I was in sixth grade, my classmates and I were taught about the Basic Four Food Groups.
We were told that a balanced diet would include at least two servings a day from the meat group, three servings a day from the dairy group, four servings from the fruit and vegetable group, and four servings from the bread and grain group.
We were told that the meat group and the dairy group are crucial sources of protein. If we did not get enough protein, our growth would be stunted.
We would not be able to grow proper hair or fingernails. The meat and dairy group were also supposedly important sources of minerals.
If we did not eat red meat, we would end up anemic from lack of iron. If we did not drink our milk, we would not grow healthy bones and teeth.
Like everyone else in the class, I accepted that lesson at face value.
However, I started to have doubts about the need for all four of the Basic Four Food Groups after a family from India moved into our neighborhood.
Because of their Hindu religion, none of them had ever eaten any meat whatsoever. They even drank far less milk and ate far less cheese and fewer eggs than we did.
Yet their growth was not stunted. They were of normal height. They also had normal hair and fingernails.
Later on, I met some Seventh Day Adventists who had never eaten any meat. They, too, looked perfectly normal.
Eventually, I even met some vegetarians who were athletes and some who were blood donors, even though they never ate any red meat.
My doubts about the need for meat and dairy foods grew even stronger after I learned something about gorillas.
Wild gorillas eat nothing but salad, without dressing. About 85% of their diet is leafy green vegetables.
They also eat bark, roots, flowers, and fruit.
The only “meat” they normally eat comes from termites and other creepy crawlies, which make up about one tenth of one percent of their food intake.
In other words, their diet is 99.9% plants. Nevertheless, an adult male gorilla can weigh 500 pounds and is probably ten times as strong as a man.
So even though wild gorillas eat foods from only one of the Basic Four Food Groups, their growth is not stunted.
They even grow plenty of hair. In other words, gorillas are big, strong, hairy proof that a plant-based diet can easily provide plenty of protein, calcium, and iron.
If human beings try to eat a gorilla-style diet, protein would be the least of their worries.
Their real struggle would be in eating enough leaves to get enough calories! Our bodies are simply not built to digest that much salad!
I learned even more about nutrition and health after I got a job with a publisher of medical and veterinary textbooks.
In the late 1980s, I had the good luck to work on some books on nutrition and dietetics. I had to check all the grammar and spelling, which means that I had to read the manuscripts word for word.
From those books, I learned that it is practically impossible to design a diet that would provide enough calories from plants without providing enough protein for a human being.
To get a protein deficiency, you would have to eat so little food that you would not get enough calories, either.
On the other hand, you would starve to death if practically all of your calories came in the form of protein.
This problem is called fat starvation or rabbit starvation because it usually happened when people were eating nothing but very lean meat, such as rabbit meat or the meat from horses that had died of starvation.
Your body can burn some protein for energy. However, your body cannot burn enough protein to fulfill all of your body’s energy needs.
For years, many people suspected that a form of starvation called kwashiorkor resulted from eating a diet that provided plenty of calories in the form of carbohydrate but not enough protein.
But if you look at actual cases of kwashiorkor, you generally find that the children were not getting enough calories, either.
If you do not get enough calories, you will burn up your dietary protein for energy, instead of using it to build and repair tissue.
For that reason, nutrition scientists often talk about protein-energy malnutrition. To this day, nobody really knows why a few starving children get kwashiorkor, whereas most starving children get a condition called marasmus instead.
Kwashiorkor does not occur in people who are getting enough to eat, even if their diet is high in carbohydrates.
To find people who are suffering from protein deficiency, as opposed to a general lack of calories, you would have to look at some extreme situations as we shall in the next article…
