something about dongsik saying "my/our yuyeonie" sometimes, most times, when talking about yuyeon to other people. doesn't matter if its to those who he's close with or to those who harmed her. he'd mostly use "우리 유연이" (my/our yuyeonie) when talking about her and i just. want to sob. there's so so so little scenes of them two together (only one afaik) (they're not even in the same frame too) (it was just yuyeon thanking dongsik for the ring)
would give anything to have had lee twins scenes in the drama but im also grateful there's little to none of it cz yuyeon's death wouldve been more painful than it already is.

(yes minjeong is alive). need to see lee twin siblingism moments.
fuvk kang jinmook. fuck han kihwan. they deserve more than what's happened to them.

i think i've literally exhausted every possible thought to have about beyond evil, because i was just thinking about the man juwon's mom left behind to marry han kihwan. literally someone only mentioned once in passing. is this too far.
i mean, he prolly knows who she married right? do you think he recognizes lee suyeon in han juwon? do you think he changed the channel if the hans popped up in that little tv struggle they had about the case, because it only reminded him of a dead lover from the past? do you think he felt vindicated while seeing the news of hkh's arrest?
maybe this is too much thinking

would anyone wanna see my Sweet Home au for jwds because the ideas keep flowing the more I watch sweet home season 2.
like the main concept of my au is basically to make juwon a neohuman/monster-human at the start of the apocalypse when it hits manyang. so basically jwds arguing in the basement, then it triggers juwons power/monster stuff (sorry dongsik you may have to suffer minimal injury and property damage). juwon knew he was infected from before then though but kept it quiet because his dad and job yada yada and then as the apocalypse goes on it becomes a question of how much longer can juwon keep his monstertification a secret and avoid getting killed or hurting anyone.
for dongsik I am thinking of just keeping him a regular human person who ended up roped into a mess (so basically canon). he does find yuyeon and the whole arc he goes on in BE does happen eventually dw. but that may have to go on the backburner in favour of maybe shooting down some monsters and helping people in the apocalypse. he's stressed, depressed, a bit of a mess. I'm thinking that he would be a bit of a reluctant leader type character.
its just a little au which will end up as a oneshot for now if people are interested. I just think that Hyunsu and Juwon may have some things in common like their beliefs and attitudes. when I watched the sweet home I thought that they were similar and Hyunsu reminded me of Juwon. oh and the fact that BE actors keep showing up in Sweet Home (Lee Dohyun in s1 and Kim Shinrok in s2).
if you're interested or have any further ideas then comment and reblog :)

dongsik catching on the way juwon stepped back when they discovered lee geumhwa's body. that's the only way and clue he have to suspect juwon knowing who is the body/juwon having something to do with it
dongsik finding out the name of the body based on how juwon flinched/reacted when dongsik recited the names back to him.
dongsik read juwon so easily enough to predict what he'll do that he used juwon as alibi. he read juwon's intention so easily that he immediately caught on juwon going to JCM instead of going to seoul like he said.
dongsik caught on juwon going to him with the recording of HKH's confession about yuyeon's death instead of deleting it to protect his father.
dongsik knew and believed wholeheartedly that juwon and kihwan are two different people that's why he was so easy in following juwon's plan to bring kihwan down even if there were times juwon didn't uphold his promises to dongsik (pleading the fifth & calling back)
to conclude: dongsik is so attuned to juwon.

On Beyond Evil's Opening Credits
As there is a lot to say even in the 20sec that constitute the opening credits of the show, I decided to cut my thoughts in multiple parts. Here, I will link other parts as I go:
In this part, I decided to focus on the very first and very last bits of the opening credits, containing the name of the show, also illustrated for reference as the following:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The circularity between the two shots I selected is insanely representative of the whole course of the show. But I will try not to epilogue too much on that, as I really want to focus on the implications of the artistic choices made to represent Han Joowon and Lee Dongsik.
• In the first shot (image 1), we can distinct two silhouettes, as selected by the producers of the show. Those two silhouettes are the outlines of respectively Lee Dongsik’s and Han Joowon’s faces as fully appearing in the last shot (see image 2). You can zoom in to see what I mean. What is interesting here is that they kept Lee Dongsik’s silhouette as the framework, and merged Han Joowon’s in it. They don’t exactly overlap: Han Joowon is integrated to Lee Dongsik’s silhouette, which suggest several different things. It could, for example, suggest that Han Joowon exists in Lee Dongsik, and that Lee Dongsik takes up most of Han Joowon’s own character. As if the story could not, or their characters would not, make sense without them being somehow intertwined on a whole other level. There exist shows where two characters are linked, one way or another, but still appear independently on promotional posters, or in opening credits. Here, they permeate each other’s existence, which serves as proof that they right away have some kind of connection, and dependency. It might not be the kind of dependency that we are used to being fed by the media, but they truly are dependent of one another: Han Joowon’s purpose is, in essence, Lee Dongsik. And Lee Dongsik could never have gotten what he wanted if it was not for Han Joowon. Han Joowon and Lee Dongsik need each other on an almost organic level when it comes to the definition of their characters regarding the storyline: not only on a human/emotional level, as part of a healing process, but also as part of their own individual drive towards a final destination (catching Han Joowon’s father, finding Lee Yuyeon, arresting a serial killer, redemption for past mistakes, bringing justice, etc…). This shot (image 1) suggests that they cannot appear one without the other, and that it would be deeply wrong to think of them as entirely separate entities, since they both are part of each other. They’re either each other’s shadow, or watchman, or conscience, or yearning. They’re each other’s reflection and mirror. It strengthens the impression that they’re the only ones who are able to understand one another the way no one ever did before in their lives: Lee Dongsik sees right through Han Joowon, and Han Joowon, though it takes some time, sees that Lee Dongsik is the only figure in his life able to uphold his values until the very end. Lee Dongsik sees his past in Han Joowon: a young man convinced there is a right way of performing justice in a corrupted world, and Han Joowon sees his future in Lee Dongsik, as the kind of fucked up role model he never had in his life: someone incorruptible, even to peer pressure, and consistent to the core, who values people more than greed. They also see their present: a thrive for justice, for closure with a hurtful past. And they see the three at the same time (but it's a complicated notion I will not elaborate). They see each other’s humanity: their flaws, vulnerability, lack, but also ability to do goodness. And it is all framed in Lee Dongsik, because it is all framed in Lee Yuyeon (see my post as Lee Yuyeon being the Laura Palmer of Manyang).
• Secondly, they chose to make Han Joowon’s silhouette take half of the space, more or less, which makes him look, symbolically, at Lee Dongsik’s brain. It suggests that Han Joowon is intrinsically trying to decipher Lee Dongsik’s mind, trying to get inside of him, to see things through his eyes. It is both an allusion to his conviction that Lee Dongsik is guilty, but also to the fact that he is, throughout the show, trying to explore Lee Dongsik from within: sometimes choosing to act in a similar way, or opting for the same methods, etc… He is maintaining his own (distorted) sense of self, illustrated here by the contrast of color and scenery, but he is looking up to Lee Dongsik, expecting something from him, and he is intimately, actively, working his way up to grasping the whole of Lee Dongsik’s mysterious personality. It can also be seen as Han Joowon opening the door to Lee Dongsik’s secrets, while the latter is always a very concealing character (once again, something that is explicitly appearing in the opening credits).
• At last, the two silhouettes are highly contrasting with one another. On one hand we have Han Joowon’s, which is green, represented by the reed field, symbolizing his nature as contrasting with Lee Dongsik’s apparent confusion and merging with the town of Manyang at nigh; but also symbolizing his inevitable and deeply rooted bond with the town. Both of them are linked to Manyang: Lee Dongsik is part of it, so much that he knows the dark side of the town, he is part of its scenery, and is part of the secretive and impenetrable atmosphere. On the other hand, Han Joowon is at the periphery of the town, but his hereditary involvement in the tragedy of Lee Yuyeon’s death in the reed field, renders him half-outsider, half-foreign, half-mystically involved and part of the town. He is the border between wilderness and civilization, between good and evil: he is the reed field. Besides, this contrast of color is also an echo of his own contrast with the town’s people: just as Lee Dongsik suggested to him when he first came with his fancy fast blue car: he is the most visible because he is not part of Manyang, he is easily spottable, he is easily read by a Manyang inhabitant, he is different by nature.
But, as I explained from the beginning, the circularity makes it come back to the very essence of this: he is different by nature, but, he is also just like Lee Dongsik. And you can just read everything all over again.

won’t even lie until yesterday I thought Beyond Evil was about a hot mafia boss inexplicably in love with some random forty year old, not two cops
SCREAM. anon you didn't ask for this so i'm sorry in advance, the brainrot is moving my hands, but lemme explain!
beyond evil is about a 40 year old man, lee dongsik, who was accused 20 years ago of murdering his twin sister, lee yuyeon. he was brutalized at the hands of the cops who worked the case and became a cop only so that he could defend himself & investigate his sister's case himself. he is so completely run-through with grief and You Can Tell.
the OTHER guy, han juwon, is a much younger cop (27) whose dad is a Big Powerful Cop (second highest-ranking officer in the country type of powerful), so in essence he's a nepo baby cop. he's obsessed with lee dongsik because he's convinced lee dongsik is a serial killer, but the narrative kicks his ass so hard and eventually his obsession transitions into an embarrassing feral woobie-eyed crush. it's actually worse than a crush but you gotta see it with your own eyes to know it.
i'm gonna shut up now before i say anything else but anyway if you're able to suspend your wariness of cop shows like me you should watch Beyond Evil (2021). it's really very good :)

A CERTAIN STEP TOWARDS FALLING IN LOVE PLEASE
no lie i would trade my firstborn child for jwds pride and prejudice au
yesssss I LOVE THIS ONE, @stormyoceans and I talked some time ago about how Beyond Evil is essentially just a P&P AU anyway--handsome arrogant city boy with too much money/power comes to a small backwater town and promptly falls in hate/love with local eccentric with fine eyes. ANYWAY. This fic is my attempt to write something RELATIVELY short that COULD turn into a longer multi-chapter piece at some point.
Summary: Pride & Prejudice AU. Dongsik teaches Juwon to waltz.
Snippet:
Just over Hyeok’s left shoulder there’s a swirl of dark curls, escaping charmingly from a loose tie.
He tries to look away, quickly, but before he can the dancers shift and he can see a smile, a twinkling eye as Lee Dongsik leans in to whisper something to his twin sister, who he’s currently leading in the dance.
Juwon is hit with a stunning pulse of relief that it’s no one else–he’s not dancing with any of the eligible young women that wait all along the benches. Just with his sister.
Immediately, he suppresses the thought and the emotion that comes with it. Why should he care who Dongsik dances with?
Because it could have been you, his brain whispers into his consciousness. Because until it is you, you’ll be jealous of every single–
He turns abruptly, facing the window and loosening his cravat slightly. He’ll look rather like a trollop like this, all hot and bothered and showing too much skin.
Oh well. They could hardly think less of him.
Juwon’s entrance into local society had been…less than precipitous.
It is his nature to be reserved. It is his preference not to touch a lady’s proffered hand, much less bend to kiss it.
He has been told he is cold, an ice prince, unfeeling and uncaring. Too quick to judge, too unyielding once his opinion is formed. He does not see anything wrong with this. Underneath, his emotions roll like the tides, dragging him about against his will, bashing him against the rocks, forcing him to scramble for safety, for shelter, only to be repelled again and again.
It is good to be aloof. It is right to be unswayable. His father’s words.
In general, Juwon does not regret his actions. He acts only in accordance with his principles, and if others find fault with him then they would not have been a worthy acquaintance to begin with.
In one regard, however, he feels a certain pang of what could, he imagines, be considered remorse.
—--------------
It had been the first ball in the neighborhood. Hyeok, ever the peacemaker, had been suggesting dance partners for him in an increasingly frustrated attempt to make a favorable impression. Juwon denied each offering simply and succinctly–”No.”
Until Hyeok suggested Lee Yuyeon. For some reason he still doesn’t understand, Juwon had faltered. Barely, but his hesitation was enough that Hyeok was on him like a cat on a mouse.
“Aha, so our ice prince does have some hot blood in his veins! I knew it was only a matter of time before I found out your type. Come, let us walk over and introduce ourselves and then you will ask her to dance–”
Juwon had pulled his arm from Hyeok’s grip, a look of horror spreading on his face.
“I will do no such thing.”
“No? Too shy? No matter, I’ll go make the introduction for you, if that’s easier. It’s a small matter.”
“Absolutely not.” Hyeok had finally turned to look at him, eyes wide in response to the fear revulsion in Juwon’s voice.
“No? But she is, in fact, very pretty. Anyone can see that. Come, Juwon, you must dance with at least one lady. One single dance. What can it hurt? She is certainly the most agreeable creature in the room.”
Just for a second, unaccountably, an image of her brother had flashed before Juwon’s eyes.

we are so young and free !
ECLIPSE made their debut as a brother group to loona on march 20th, 2022 with their debut album BIG BANG with the title track GIVE AND TAKE. they would leave bbc shortly after loona did in 2023 and would be taken under flowerbank entertainment shortly thereafter where they would have their redebut with the single KICK IT 4 NOW. the groups consists of kitae, saerom, yuyeon, and leo.
Tumblr media
kitae was born on february 14th, 2000 to parents who were definitely on the older side. his parents were sixty, and already had kids in their fourties by the time they realized his mom was pregnant with him. he began training at 13 years old mostly because he’s such an anxious person. he figured his parents may not be with him for as long as they were for his siblings and he needed to find a way to get a job.
he started training at angelico entertainment and would train for two years before appearing on the survival show the new wave, he would not make the final lineup, but would train there for another two years before going to blockberry creative where he would train until his debut in eclipse in 2023.

saerom was born on october 25th, 2001 and was raised primarily by his uncle due to how busy his parents were constantly. despite not being home to help with things like homework, saerom’s parents always made sure to make a way to make it to his soccer games whenever they could. and he was amazing at soccer, his whole town thought he would go on to be a professional.
when saerom was 15 he got into an accident and ended up hurting his knee badly, badly enough to the point that he had to give up on soccer. but while he was recovering, he found his love for music. he decided to practice his skills and once his knee got better enough, he auditioned for blockberry in 2019.
BIRTH NAME — park saerom.
STAGE NAME — saerom.

STAR SIGNS — scorpio. snake.
POSITIONS — main dancer, lead rapper, sub vocalist, fotg.

Tumblr media
yuyeon was born on april 3rd, 2002 in the middle of NOWHERE. his parents were literally driving around because his mom was bored and they got lost, next thing they knew yuyeon was coming. it’s probably why he has no sense of direction now, and he’s always lost both literally and figuratively. his parents were crazy and always encouraged his ideas and it’s why he was always expressing himself.
when he wanted to become an idol his parents were immediately on board, they literally walked with yuyeon holding hands and let him choose blockberry because it was the closest to their house and he’d be less likely to get lost getting there every day.
BIRTH NAME — lee yuyeon.
STAGE NAME — yuyeon.
BIRTHDAY — april 3rd, 2002.
STAR SIGNS — aries. horse.
POSITIONS — lead vocalist, sub rapper, visual.

leo was born on august 1st, 2003 to parents who loved to travel. because of this love for traveling, leo spent a lot of his life moving from country to country and learning languages and languages. it was honestly kind of lonely not keeping friends because his parents would get bored and just emigrate somewhere else, but he made do.
he actually auditioned for blockberry on accident. he didn’t know korean well and he was scouted while visiting south korea before he officially moved back there. a scout had asked him to sign up and he agreed because he was confused, when he made it to actual auditions he was still very confused but auditioned anyways and started training.
BIRTH NAME — kam dongmin.
STAGE NAME — leo.
BIRTHDAY — august 1st, 2003.

Rewatching Beyond Evil and I’m taking (somewhat) unserious notes! Enjoy my brain worms.
Episode 1 || Next Episode
Ooooo dead body
Mad to think that when I first saw Jihoon’s actor he was playing a bully. This is a complete 180 and he does both roles well.
Intense middle aged running with intense music
(Spongebob style) Flashback~
Ah a church. You will never catch me there
The song they’re singing is oddly fitting to the theme of the show sans the whole God thing
We don’t stan Dongsik slander in this household.
Lee Dohyun <3
The signs in this flashback. The shot of the guitar pick, Kang Jinmuk being seen a lot but in the background, Bang Juseon being rude to Dongsik, Dongsik telling Yuyeon to leave at night (aka he had “motive”) etc
Lee twins crumbs I love it.
The cold filter when Dongsiks mum finds yuyeons fingertips nice touch
The title being “(to) Appear" mwah nice
Love the shots of how everything is “worse”when we transition to Dongsik now
Oct 11 2020 remember that me
HERE HE IS ITS JUWON
Dongsik saying stop in english <3
Pls the dramatic slow mo 🤣
Dongsik is a true justice/law upholder. Never letting things slide if its wrong. He and juwon are alike in that sense.
“Many a mickle makes a muckle” netflix what does that mean???? Like i get it but ive never heard that saying in my life
Everyone turns to see Juwon par Dongsik… that is until he speaks.
Juwon judging people and things right off the bat. Bro is not amused.
Technically Juwon is higher rank than Dongsik because Dongsik is assistant inspector and Juwon is flat out inspector
Dongsik immediately knew something was up as soon as he heard who Juwon’s dad is.
Juwon’s first impression of Dongsik is that he is intelligent and follows the law like rulebook when dealing with people (ofc he also thinks he is a murderer and should avoid someone like him and has already decided he hates his guts)
The tension starts as soon as Juwon drives past Dongsik. They immediately are making notes on each other
YOO JAEYI MY GIRLBOSS BELOVED. She is so much more clever than people give her credit for.
Jeongje and Dongsik being best friends…
OH JIHWA ^^
I love the manyang crew interactions.
“He’s not my type” not now… but he will be. you have no idea whats coming for you, Dongsik
Ew Hna Kihwan
I love these dinner scenes with Juwon. They so clearly reflect him and his attitude at the time as well as his relationship with his dad as well as how they change over the show.
아버지 and not 아빠 really emphasises the father-son relationship they have (or lack thereof)
Their first interaction and they already dont like each other.
Everyone sucking up to Juwon and trying to work with him and hes like yeah… no. Y’all are weird.
THEN GETS OFFENDED WHEN DONGSIK SAYS HE DOESNT WANNA WORK WITH HIM LMAOO
so hes like… two can play at this game bitch and calls Dongsik a nutjob.
Their reaction when Sangbae pairs them up is top tier
Juwons inner thoughts: “Day one… fuck my life”
Dongsik started teasing Juwon off the bat
They both have a super impressive memory wtf
“There are no secrets in this town. You are always being watched by someone.”
Dongsik nags Juwon about his aggressive driving and immediately drives aggressively because he can
Ah the reed field…
Juwon traipsing through the mud was me last week when I had to walk home (our area flooded)
We dont give the score for this show enough credit its so good like
“Why did you just stand there when a gust of wind was coming? You’ll learn once it slaps you in the face.” Metaphorrrrrrr
Juwon is already accusing Dongsik like 40mins into the ep like damn
Fresh out the shower dongsik is so yes.
Juwon in that white jumped is also a yes.
Mate respectfully I don’t think you got how relationships work. “People at my school or in my hometown want to be my friends by showing me unwanted kindness or attention. But at get-togethers they all talk about what I have or my connections. They gossip and laugh about it. In the end they all come to me for favours.” Dongsik is right in asking “Is it that simple?” Because it isn’t. (I will make a full post about this omg)
“What could you possibly have that makes you think you are the most important person in the universe?” THE MEANINGS OMG
Man gets so offended when people are like you have mysophobia then ends up roped into a get together.
Juwon trying to text a fake excuse to get out of the get together is so me because I have done that (its the anxiety for me)
Juwon is so awkward bless him.
“You’re supposed to stay glued to your partner all day, and know the colour of his underpants.” Dw Jihoon Juwon will learn ;)
Everyone clapping for Jinmuk and calling him the most important guy in manyang…
Juwon not liking his dad being brought up and Dongsik joking about it to diffuse the situation and also poke at Juwon
All important scenes happen when it rains.
Juwon quickly learns to not believe what dongsik says half the time XD
“I don’t want you to like me.” “It’s up to me to like someone or not.”
“Leave before you get caught.” What interesting phrasing Dongsik
Ah yes the Juwon and Hyeok brother dynamic. I find it interesting and think its an underrated Juwon relationship.
Hyeok trying be Han Kihwans son and Juwon is like “dont. Trust me.”
We mention Dongsiks wall of notes and stuff on the Yuyeon etc case but we dont talk about Juwons enough. Mf has two. Two fricken boards. One he makes in his closet (?) above his computer and the other next to his bed.
The! Score! Ugh im a lover
It takes a whole day to get to the reed field this time??? Cause he arrived in the morning (i assume) at the police station and then the sun is set by the time he gets there. I think he may have procrastinated bc of the mud or he actually arrived in the afternoon and the sun sets ridiculously early in late october?
Juwon getting jumpscared by Dongsik again XD
I love how this episode brings us full loop to the start of the episode but includes Juwon the second time to add fresh perspective and the aftermath.
Juwon’s step back and shaky hand is a give away that he knows her and Dongsik immediately picks up on it. Yet Dongsik tells Jihoon to leave knowing this must be a secret.
And Juwon doesn’t miss a beat when Dongsik says its a woman. They’re both one upping each other all the time
We give Juwon shit for constantly grabbing juwons collar/shirt but Dongsik did it first! (And it was hot because he smooths out Juwons shirt after) Juwon just copied and repeated.
And Dongsik quickly realises why Juwon is in Manyang and decides to just play with him and be a little shit.
Mate you guys are at the first ep and already in each other’s faces
Ok fin see you next episode ^^
