Short answer: hearing Alex Brightman in Hazbin Hotel awoke the goth/musical nerd in me like a damn sleeper agent

Long answer: I’ve always loved the film (my parents used to put it on because they liked it and would tell me when to shut my eyes when Barbara ripped her face off lmao) and I actually plan to get a tattoo inspired by the funky bug ghost man in time for the sequel 🤩🤩 I’m also super excited for the new movie! I have high hopes but I’m also trying to manage my expectations 😅💀

I’m also revisiting the 90’s cartoon, because even though I loved it as a kid too, my memory of it is shaky as hell 😂 I only really remember the Edgar Allen Poe episode because it freaked me a bit when I was little 😂😂

BUT, the musical…the MUSICAL??!! Goddamn I love it (am I deeply in love with Alex Brightman? I cannot possibly comment….), I went and bought the OBC vinyl and a tie-in makeup palette because I have absolutely zero idea how to consume media like a normal person. The score reminds me of a weird mix of Book of Mormon and The Rocky Horror Show because of the slight rock sound to it. The three note guitar riff in the first few lines of “The Whole Being Dead Thing” revolve in my brain like a potato in a microwave.

Side note; absolute travesty the musical hasn’t really left the US, I know so many fellow theatre nerds who would eat the shit up-

I think it all really ties into my adoration for quirky supernatural trickster characters with a Pick Your Own Backstory who are insanely powerful but just use it for Shenanigans™️ until someone pisses them off enough 😅 If I could, I too would just hang around in a snazzy suit causing Problems for middle class suburban people.

fav m2d moments / scenes 🙏🏼

I've got many, many, favorite moments!! And probably more favorite moments than I can currently remember. But... I'll mention three(ish) moments:

So, Joey's Mother-in-Law is a favorite episode! It's packed with favorite moments. The conversation between Michael and his mother is perhaps the best scene in the entire show. But, I want to talk about Michael and Joey's pillow fight. The way Joey himself converts Michael's mother into his mother-in-law in his head so he can justify yelling at her (which he doesn't end up doing). And, then, Nicole walks in on them, and sees Joey basically on top of Michael smothering him with a pillow and she says something about how adults get to stay up late and have all the fun. Insane scene. Not only did Joey make it gay by DIY-ing his own mother-in-law but it's also gay because it's basically a kid walks in on their parents "wrestling" (having sex) scene. Insane.

Another scene I love is in You Love Me, Right? Michael's unreliable uncle Raymond is visiting and Michael is very negative about the guy because he has dissappointed him many, many, times. Importantly, one time when Michael was a kid his uncle promised him that a famous guy was going to show up for his birthday. Michael told all his friends that this famous guy was going to show up to his birthday party. Birthday comes around, neither the famous guy nor his uncle show. All the kids at the party laugh at him. Now, in the episode, Michael and Joey run out on like... the roof? it's a roof area. Michael's yelling after his uncle and then he tells the birthday-tale to Joey and then this happens:

Such a small moment, but it's <333 A reminder that they've always been there for each other and maybe, while they were angry with one another, they remembered those moments and perhaps yearned for the past.

Then, finally, there is a scene in Joey Get's Pinned. Joey basically ends up married to a wrestler (s3 is wild) who wants Michael out of their home and Nicole to become a wrestler. Joey, after being a bit scared of her (he seems to have trouble breaking up with hmmm insitent and controlling women) snaps and tells her: "Surprise, we were never married! Surprise, even if we were, Nicole's not gonna be a wrestler... Nobody's gonna tell my daughter what she's gonna be when she grows up," and then Michael says "She's gonna be a doctor" (I just find Michael being insistent on Nicole becoming a doctor/surgeon very funny). Joey continues "Surprise, Michael's room is Michael's room. Surprise, Michael's Nicole's other father. He lives here! Surprise, he doesn't go! You go!" Like!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😵‍💫 Yeahhh they're a family!!!!!!

I'd talk about some more scenes, but I got work in an hour.

Terms & Conditions: Chapter One 🌠

He sighed again, a habit that had become unbearably all too familiar over the months. His father’s voice echoed through his skull, drawing a wince with every painful reminder.

“You must stop obsessing over this…fantasy of yours, Thomas. Life isn’t all fun and games. The sooner you realise life isn’t all laughs from strangers and silly props, the better.”

Tommy had long since given up his dream of becoming a comedian. As much as he hated to admit it…His father had been right. Although as his back groaned at the sight of another pile of books awaiting him; well he couldn’t help but feel the pangs of regret that accompanied his long forgotten ambitions. Almost a year he had been working in the convenient space that was ‘Charon.’ It was a cozy job, Tommy reasoned. As much tea as he could drink, all the books his heart desired…And yet he couldn’t help but feel that something was missing. An ache that slowly started in his chest, but had slowly started to spread throughout his whole body as the days dragged by. He had his sister Christine of course, but she lived so far away. He longed for adventure. For fun. Tommy shook his head, quickly pulling himself away from his fantasies. After all, that’s all it ever would be. A stupid, childish fantasy. He tilted his head at the sound of the star bell ringing, the sunlight reflecting each of the stars onto the ceiling. Tommy grinned, his eyes softening as he gazed amongst the ocean of stars. God, how he adored that bell. No, not the bell…The stars. Christ how he adored the stars.

“Excuse me, do you have-”

Tommy’s face fell for a moment, turning to face the voice that had rudely interrupted him. That is until he saw his face. The dark haired man gazed at him so gently, his eyes sparkling under the star ‘chandelier’ that adorned the centre of the room. His pale blue eyes were like the ocean, pulling him in with no hope of surfacing. Not that Tommy wanted to. The man grinned so gently, tommy feeling his cheeks reddened as he turned back to his pile of books.

“Can I-Um…How can I help you sir?”

The man looked towards the ground sheepishly, a blush creeping onto his own cheeks.

“Sorry, I don’t mean to stare, I just…I really love your jumper.”

Tommy looked down at his mix of brown, yellow, and a confusing green nature patterned jumper, a scoff accompanying the raising of his brows as he tucked a strand of golden blonde hair behind his glasses.

“Seriously? Wow. Um, thank you, I-”

“I’m Len.”

Tommy couldn’t help but grin, looking Len up and down, his own cerulean blue eyes shining under the stars.

“I-I’m sorry, I know I’m babbling. My name is Len.”

Tommy giggled softly, placing down the books to step towards Len, hands in his pockets to stop the temptation to reach out and shake the strangers. Which, he was reluctant to admit was stronger than most things he usually felt.

“No need to apologise. I’m Thomas.”

Len grinned again, tilting his head ever so slightly.

“Thomas sounds so…Formal. Mind if I call you Tommy?”

Tommy scoffed ever so softly, his mind racing with thoughts and oh so confusing feelings.

“I…Wow. Sorry, nobody’s ever asked me that before. I guess…Well I guess wouldn’t be opposed to it. As long as you call me it when nobody’s around.”

Tommy felt a pang of guilt, his cheeks reddening further as he turned away from Len. It wasn’t exactly a lie. All his life everyone had called him ‘Thomas’. His father was the worst for it, making him believe that it was more ‘proper’ and ‘formal’…

“As you wish.”

Tommy turned yet again to face him, sure that he had sprained something at the speed he had done it. Why couldn’t he stop staring at his eyes? He dared to take another step forward, allowing a small smile to curve at his lips.

“…Is there something I can get for you?”

“Oh! I’m so sorry, I got so caught up, I completely forgot what I came in for. I’m um. Looking for ‘The Princess Bride’..? It’s for my daughter.”

Tommy felt his heart sink ever so slightly, turning back towards his pile to hide the pain that was showing on his face.

“Um…It would probably be under T..? Sorry, I’m not…Familiar with that one I’m ashamed to admit.”

Len nodded, making his way over to the shelf marked ‘T’.

“My Leanne adores it. So do I actually.”

The way he chuckled made Tommy’s soul felt like it had lit up, his face redder than an apple at this point.

“What about your wife? Does she like it..?”

“She did, yeah. We’re uh…Divorced now actually. I have my girl at the weekends.”

Tommy hummed, a surprisingly happy grin crossing his lips. That is until he heard a series of small thuds, slowly peeking over from the shelves to see the books he had spent hours arranging and tidying lying on the floor like a forgotten pile of laundry.

“Oh…I-”

“Found it! It was hiding from me. I’m in a bit of a rush sorry, my Leanne’s waiting for me. How much to rent it?”

Tommy frowned at the books scattered around his floor, sighing as he stepped towards the counter.

“£2. I’ll need it back by next week, that’s when I do my stock take.”

Len grinned cheerfully, handing the two pound coins over without a second glance.

“Thank you so much, you’re a lifesaver.”

He was practically out the door when Tommy piped up, his eyes shining in the sun’s light.

“I hope to see you next week then.”

Len stood for a beat before curtsying, a painfully gentle smile across his face.

“…As you wish.”

Tommy felt a flutter in his chest as the door closed, placing a hand over his mouth. He couldn’t explain why or how…But the ache had gone.

favourite folk horror book? 👀

Oooh this is a bit hard because folk horror’s still quite a niche genre 👀 a lot of books are quite recent releases because of the “folk horror revival” in recent years so I haven’t gotten around to them yet 😭

I enjoyed Starve Acre by Andrew Michael Hurley though! Definitely had the folk horror vibe 🤩

I’m waiting for my pre-order of the new edition of Blood on Satan’s Claw, but I really liked the audio drama version! (With Reece Shearsmith as the priest, Fallowfield) That and The Wicker Man, which I’m still trying to get my hands on at some point 👀

what fictional characters would you say your most like, personality wise? 🥰

Hi, thank you for the ask and sorry for the late reply!!!

This a tough one. I see myself in a lot of characters (for better and worse) hmmm. I'll give you two characters I'm like.

My first thought goes to Adrian Monk. He's a detective from the TV show Monk (one of my favorite shows of all time). He's got A LOT of issues and that's in addition to his OCD (and probably autism). I won't say I see myself in all his quirks, even if I suspect that I may be neurodivergent myself, because I don't really know enough about that stuff (and the show isn't totally realistic in its depiction of OCD, what show is, yknow). But, anyways, I see myself in his youngest sibling swag (kind of whiny and self centered :( ), his neuroticism, his indecisiveness, his discomfort with touching other people, and his good memory. He can watch something once and memorize the whole thing. I used to do that as a kid and to an extent still can. So, that's me. I'm like him in those ways.

My second character is a character sure but he's played by a comedian playing himself, and that's Lou Costello. Costello is a man-child who is smarter than you think and very mischievous. NOW, I'm not a man-child, but I've got a mischievous streak which my best friend says she can't get over. And, she basically said I was like Costello in this gag:
