A/N: This blog is still under construction. There are a lot of older fics that still need to be transferred to this blog.
A/N: I’ve organized this masterlist based on different phases I’ve gone through when playing with this crossover and Ahsoka/Chase ship. There’s a lot of overlapping and repitive ideas as I’ve tried to explore and perfect different ideas, and because this is a comfort crossover/pairing for me.

Pairing: Ahsoka Tano/Chase Davenport
"Mission Leader" Drabble
A conversation between Ahsoka and Chase during the events of "Follow the Leader”
Pairing: Ahsoka Tano/Chase Davenport

Pairing: Ahsoka Tano/Chase Davenport
Background Pairing: Reference to canonical Skylar/Oliver

So, continuously thinking about lab rats/star wars (clone wars/bad batch era) crossovers, and my subsequent favorite pairing from that. Thinking about Star Wars comics/movies/tv-shows existing in the same way Mighty Med comics do. Thinking about how Leo was always into superheroes because that's essentially what he aspired to be, and that's how he viewed Adam, Bree, and Chase. Thinking about Chase being more into Star Wars because he identifies more with the clones, with the struggle between personal identity and freedom vs the desire to fulfill your duty to sacrifice your life because it's what you were engineered to do.
Thinking about when they find out the superhero world is real, they also find out the Star Wars galaxy is real too, and the sudden horror of realizing the tragic fates of the clone army and the jedi almost certainly, actually happened.
Thinking about Chase having a collection of Star Wars action figures that he brings with him to Centium City, and Ahsoka trying not cry when she sees all the miniaturized figurines of the 501st.
Thinking about Skylar being miffed that companies still keep producing Ahsoka merch, while nothing new comes out themed on Skylar Storm.
Thinking about Ahsoka realizing that a number of her embarrassing moments have been immortalized and seen by a good majority of a planet's population. As well as some of her more heart-braking failures (She cannot, and will not watch the Clone Wars: Season 7 finale). Refusing to believe that what happened to Anakin was accurate. She uses the excuse that Ambrose occasionally takes creative liberties, even swaps out one character for another, so that has to be what's happened here. Because Anakin could never join the Sith, could never kill younglings.

For the week of 17 June 2019
Quick Bits:
A Walk Through Hell #11 gives us a bit more insight into Shaw’s childhood and further fallout from the investigation, even as things seem to get nastier in the hell they’ve found themselves in. The fields of bones from Goran Sudžuka and Ive Svorcina are horrifying.
| Published by AfterShock
Tumblr media
Age of X-Man: NextGen #5 is a bit of a gut punch for a final issue in this series. Some great art by Lucas Werneck and Jason Keith, though.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Aquaman #49 concludes the “Mother Shark” two-parter as Arthur gets answers on who he is and how he died. This is a huge one. Kelly Sue DeConnick, Viktor Bogdanovic, Jonathan Glapion, Daniel Henriques, Ryan Winn, Sunny Gho, and Clayton Cowles do an incredible job with this story. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Assassin Nation #4 has the remaining assassins possibly figure out the entire plan as they take down another crime boss in this penultimate issue. Kyle Starks, Erica Henderson, and Deron Bennett have been delivering a highly entertaining series here with great art and a wicked sense of humour. Every book needs a Fuck Tarkington.
| Published by Image / Skybound
Tumblr media
Barbarella/Dejah Thoris #4 is the end to what has been a great mini from Leah Williams,  Germán García, Addison Duke, and Crank! Very interesting use of time travel for this story.
| Published by Dynamite
Tumblr media
Batman #73 sees Tom King, Mikel Janín, Jordie Bellaire, and Clayton Cowles reveal as to just how demented Thomas Wayne is in part four of “The Fall and the Fallen”. His motivation is understandable, but this is insane.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Black Badge #11 reveals a lot of the remaining secrets that we’ve guessed about previously as to what exactly is going on with the entire Black Badge organization. Maybe. I’m still expecting more twists from Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins, Hilary Jenkins, and Jim Campbell when the series ends next issue.
| Published by BOOM! Studios
Tumblr media
Captain America #11 sees Steve’s jailbreak from the Myrmidon in earnest, while Sharon and the Daughters of Liberty run the operation. Beautiful artwork from Adam Kubert and Matt Milla.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Daredevil #7 reminds us that Matt Murdock carries more guilt than an entire Catholic archdiocese. There’s a very compelling depth and complexity that Chip Zdarsky is bringing to this story, moving us away from the typical superheroics.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Elephantmen 2261: The Pentalion Job #2 enacts the heist of the pentalions in the second part of this story from Richard Starkings and Alex Medellin. Hip Flask raises some interesting questions as all of the Bond actors seem to meet their end.
| Published by Comicraft
Tumblr media
Excellence #2 is another excellent issue. Brandon Thomas, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, and Deron Bennett are developing Spencer and his history, his family, and relation with the hierarchy of the Aegis in a very compelling way.
| Published by Image / Skybound
Tumblr media
Fairlady #3 is the first issue that doesn’t really end “clean”. It’s still a single issue story, but the mystery remains and isn’t tidied up by the end. It’s another murder mystery, with an adventurer impersonating a Conan analogue. Like the previous issues, this is a great story from Brian Schirmer, Claudia Balboni, Shari Chankhamma, and David Bowman.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Faithless #3 continues to be very strange. Very, very strange. As Faith’s roommate is murdered by what seems like a wolf from her phone, her relationship with Poppy, and then she has sex with Poppy’s father. As I said, strange. I’m still not entirely sure what Brian Azzarello, Maria Llovet, and AndWorld Design are trying to do with this story.
| Published by BOOM! Studios
Tumblr media
Gideon Falls #14 begins playing with time along with the alternate realities as Burke lands in a reality “closer to the centre” and is given a purpose to find “the five”. Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, Dave Stewart, and Steve Wands are doing some amazing work here.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Guardians of the Galaxy #6 concludes “The Final Gauntlet” from Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw, David Curiel, and Cory Petit as the Guardians, all of the Guardians, take on Hela and the Black Order to try to prevent the resurrection of Thanos. It’s suitably epic.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Hit-Girl: Season 2 #5 kicks off the “Hong Kong” arc from Daniel Way, Goran Parlov, Giada Marchisio, and Clem Robins. It may well be the arc with the most narration so far, but it doesn’t detract from the usual over-the-top violence and action in the start of this story of Mindy trying to take down the Liu Triad, with rather humorous results, it rather enhances it with some nice introspection.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Justice League #26 is part one of “Apex Predator” from James Tynion IV, Javier Fernandez, Hi-Fi, and Tom Napolitano. The Justice League are pitching to the stars in order to stem the tide of Perpetua’s plans and the impending Doom brought on by the “Year of the Villain”. But everyone’s wondering if it’s just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Last Stop on the Red Line #2 is still very strange. Paul Maybury, Sam Lotfi, John Rauch, and Adam Pruett are crafting an intriguing murder mystery here as Torres and her new partner continue to try to solve the crimes on the subways, but it’s told through a very fluid, stylized way where we’re not sure what’s real and what’s just a character’s perception. It’s a very neat way to tell a story.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Little Bird #4 is maybe the most heartbreaking issue yet in this masterpiece from Darcy Van Poelgeest, Ian Bertram, Matt Hollingsworth, and Aditya Bidikar. There’s a lesson of survival, of children supplanting the parents, instilled here in the penultimate chapter as Little Bird and Gabriel have a bit of an understanding as siblings.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Middlewest #8 attempts to pick up the pieces after Abel’s outburst and near destruction of the travelling circus. Also, more of the sheer monster that his father is. Gorgeous artwork from Jorge Corona and Jean-Francois Beaulieu.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #7 is a number of vignettes with Miles checking in with family and Bombshell before setting up the next arc. Wonderful use of guest artists with Ron Ackins & Dexter Vines, Alitha E. Martinez, and Vanesa Del Rey providing segments as well as regular artist Javier Garrón.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Outpost Zero #10 explains all of the cats. It also gives a timeframe for the colony and a lot more questions as to why the old ship structure and tunnels were just completely abandoned by the colonists. Wonderful designs by Alexandre Tefenkgi.
| Published by Image / Skybound
Tumblr media
Pearl #10 takes an interesting detour for a bit into “real life” as Pearl tries to hold down a “normal” job. Then we get back to the fallout of her chopping off Mr. Miike’s fingers. Absolutely stunning artwork from Michael Gaydos, with some very interesting layouts.
| Published by DC Comics / Jinxworld
Tumblr media
Psi-Lords #1 is another great debut for Valiant. Fred Van Lente, Renato Guedes, and Dave Sharpe update one of the few Valiant properties that haven’t been brought back yet, with a bunch of seemingly newly activated psiots awakening in some kind of “Aztec sex dungeon”. The story keeps you off-balance from the beginning, adding a nice bit of mystery to what’s going on. And the artwork from Guedes is excellent.
| Published by Valiant
Tumblr media
Rat Queens #16 begins the run by the new creative team of Ryan Ferrier, Priscilla Petraites, and Marco Lesko in earnest, following on the special. The Queens are essentially tearing themselves apart at this stage and nothing seems to be able to go right.
| Published by Image / Shadowline
Tumblr media
Rumble #13 tackles the next Scourge Knight and Timah learns an interesting fact about the bundle of joy growing inside her. Great art as always from David Rubín and Dave Stewart.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Savage Sword of Conan #6 is a single issue story from Meredith Finch, Luke Ross, Nolan Woodard, and Travis Lanham. It’s a captivating tale of revenge and Conan fighting through some insurmountable odds. Great art from Ross and Woodard.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Usagi Yojimbo #1 begins a new era at IDW...in colour. Tom Luth joins Stan Sakai for the interiors in the first part of “Bunraku”. While it is a bit odd not to be black and white, this is still masterful storytelling, building on some traditional Japanese culture and providing an intriguing supernatural mystery.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media
Warlord of Mars Attacks #1 begins another property crossover mini-series from Dynamite, this time mixing John Carter with the Mars Attacks aliens, from Jeff Parker, Dean Kotz, Omi Remalante, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Nice bits of humour.
| Published by Dynamite
Tumblr media
Wolverine: Infinity Watch #5 concludes this mini from Gerry Duggan, Andy MacDonald, Jordie Bellaire, and Cory Petit. It’s been a very entertaining follow-up to Infinity Wars, but it’s also served as a kind of weird clean-up to continuity that Marvel otherwise seems to have abandoned.

Decapitated Flowers (X-Men/Star Wars Crossover)
Mitth’kurt’darcolm walked into Aikaterina Pryde’s office then stopped.  There was a half-filled vase of flowers with more scattered on her desk.  Brask Oto had an ornamental garden/park to accommodate service people who would be spending a long time there, and Kitty had certainly spent a good deal of free time there, but she’d never seemed to be interested in flower arranging.  “Where did these come from?”
She laughed.  “Hank picked up some interesting specimens on our last mission out.  They were pulling flower heads off in the garden, so I decided to make some use of the discards.”
“You don’t strike me as the type to be into decoration.”
“On my home world, it was expected that a person would have a few artistic talents.  I’m not musically inclined and I can’t cook, but I’m a very good dancer, and I do like the art of flower arranging.  It’s some of the few things I’ve kept from before.”  Before she had been sold into slavery, rather than before she had been rescued, he guessed.  “There, it’s done.  What do you think?”
She turned the vase towards him.  A bundle of complex blue roses formed a dome for the center.  Topping them was a set of black orchids, while in the middle was a line of red lilies, with one more red lily off to the side.  “You’re mocking me.”
“Maybe a little.  The roses are Ithorian roses and the orchids are zinthorns.  The lilies are fire lilies.”  She held them out and for the first time he noticed the vase was the same shiny black as the CEDF uniform.  “You could put it on the shelf on the wall behind you.  Give people something to look at while your dressing them down.”
“Or you could keep it on that table on the side of the door and scare people when they turn around.”
“That does sound fun.”  She followed his suggestion, placing on the end table where it wouldn’t be seen until people were leaving.  “Now, what did you come here for?”
“Just the preliminary proposal for allowing the refugees to leave Brask Oto and begin settlements on some of the Chiss colony worlds.”  He held out the proposal.  He supposed he could have sent it via the hypernet, but he always felt more comfortable with a physical copy.  She could just scan it if she wanted to.  “Make sure to read it and send it back to me with any changes.”  He turned to leave.  “Now if you excuse, I have to go make sure Hank’s new acquisitions don’t turn into the same fiasco as last time.”
“Do you like them?  I think they look like you!”
Kurt observed the furry, blue vermin that were climbing all over Hank’s lab and wondered if he could possibly arrange for Hank to have a mission to Dagobah.  Then he discarded the idea, the scientist would probably come back with some giant meat-eating plant that would get into the vents and require purging the entire station to get rid of.  Maybe he’d just have him deliver the next report to Csilla.  Hank had complained that the Anri family was trying to get him matched; he could put up with blind dates and omiai or however his family did things for the next quarter.  “They look like me in as much as they look like any Chiss.  Why would you bring them back?”
“Curiosity, of course.  Ch’hodos was a Sith world, and you’re right about these things looking like Chiss.  We wondered if there was a connection.”
“We?”
“Kitty and Pyotr were the ones who found them.”
“She didn’t mention that earlier.” Kurt muttered under his breath.  “Even so, did you have to bring so many back?  Couldn’t you have done biopsies there or whatever it is you do?”
“No, for two reasons.  First, the star that Ch’hodos orbits has become considerably more active than it was in our records.  We couldn’t stay there for long due to the radiation.  Seond, well,” Massive blue furred shoulders shrugged.  “Try hitting one of them with something.”
Kurt stared at the scientist in disbelief, but pulled a knife from his sleeve and threw it at one of the things (rats? mynocks?  he didn’t have a word for them) that was clustered near the door.  Instead of dodging or getting hit, a puff of smoke appeared, then the same little blue rat was up on the back of Hank’s chair.  It was easy to see it was the same one due to the black markings on it’s face.  The furry mynock stuck out it’s tongue at Kurt and made a rude noise.
“Teleportation?”  Enthusiastic nodding.  “And they all can do it!  Imagine if it turns out they really are related to us.  Maybe we could unlock the potential to do so ourselves!  Not even the X-Men have teleporters!”
Kurt really did not want to keep these things around, but for once Hank had a good argument.  “Fffffine.  But keep them in your lab and under control.  I’ll see Scott or maybe Rayne about setting up a patrol to keep their numbers down.”  He desperately needed a painkiller.  “By the way, what are you going to call them?”
As if that was a signal, the critters started to howl and teleport all over the place, leaving little sulfur-scented clouds everywhere.  Hank smiled benevolently, and Kurt wondered how the older Chiss was actually planning to keep the vermin under control.  “Kitty named them Bamfs!”
“Wonderful.  I think I’ll need to have a word with her.”  With that he left Hank’s office and closed the door behind him.  Outside, he saw Kitty’s little dragon beast, Lockheed, chasing down some of the newly christened Bamfs.  It blew fire and about half of the crowd teleported away, then seized one of the remainders and shook it like a rancor with a lizard.  Normally he was less than fond of the dragon, but in this case, “Happy hunting, little dragon.  Hope you have a good lunch.”
“I got this for you.”  It was a large plant, with a maroon colored trunk with delicate flowers cascading from the branches.  The pale blue flowers with their lavender stamens gave off a sweet, almost candy-like scent.
“It’s beautiful.  What is it and where did you get it?”  Kitty raised one hand to delicately cup one gathering of blossoms.
“I got it from one of your X-Men, Linli the Zabrak.  She called it a Succulosum Azure.”  Kitty paused and pulled away from the plant.  “She may not have known I was going to present it to you.”
“You do know that Humans are allergic to Succulosum Azure?”
“Oh, I know.”  He gave her a fang-filled smile.  “But the plant is so very pretty, I thought you wouldn’t mind.”  He set it on her desk, adjusting it a few inches so that it was in full view, but not in her way while she worked.
“This is revenge for the Bamfs, isn’t it?”
He didn’t bother to answer, but his smile got even wider.
“I think I’d better go wash my hands.”
“That might be a good idea.  Hope you enjoy my gift.”
She really was rather inventive when it came to cursing.

Unexpectedly, the Ahsoka series (so far) is actually working very nicely into my Lab Rats universe/Star Wars crossover AU.
I wonder if the show will connect the Nightsisters’ worship of the Winged Goddess and Fanged God to Ahsoka’s experiences on Mortis, because I absolutely will be in my AUs (though addressing it earlier in the timeline).
I had already created a nightsister, Arjav Venul (not apart of Talzin’s clan), who left Dathomir after her brother had visions of the gods’ death, searching for answers, and now that the nightsisters are being connected to intergalactic space travel, I might use her to bring Ahsoka into the Milky Way.

I had originally thought that if we got live-action Siege of Mandalore (or early exile years) Ahsoka, I’d make a new Chase/Ahsoka crossover icon. However, the Siege of Mandalore clips that we got aren’t usable (her lekku are far too short, and the actress, who was no more than fifteen when filming, doesn’t pass for a seventeen-year-old). The early Clone Wars flashback was good though. So, I made a couple of Ahsoka/Chase collages with their fourteen-year-old selves. I’m not gonna replace my icon with one of these, the AU I’m working on doesn’t even have them meet till Bionic Island/just after Order 66, but I still wanted to make them.

Hey,
How does your lab rats x star wars au work? Like the setting?
Is it just like the sw universe and there are bionic there?or is it a combination of the real world and the sw universe?
I've done it multiple ways for different fics, especially when it comes to my older works. Like Mission Creek is a region on the upper levels of Coruscant, or parts of the Milky Way and planet Earth are combined into the Star Wars galaxy, etc.
Lately, the AU I've been sticking with, and still trying to work out the kinks of and perfect, is just that the Milky Way and all other galaxies in the Lab Rats/Mighty Med/Elite Force universe exist in the same universe as the Star Wars galaxies. To me, this clicks the best since intergalactic travel is very much canon and accessible in the Lab Rats franchise.
[As I expand on this, I have not looked into your blog enough to know if you have watched Mighty Med, but if you haven't, forewarning, this relies heavily on Mighty Med lore, and just overall on Mighty Med's world building, which isn't explained in depth in Elite Force]
The Star Wars galaxy is known to the superhero world, but because of the hyperspace barrier, remains fairly, though not entirely, isolated. As the League of Heroes rarely operates there, and isn't really considered apart of superhero history, "Star Wars" (which, in this AU, started with catching up on Old Republic history. The Original Trilogy doesn't exist yet because those events haven't happened yet) became a separate comic book line and overall franchise. Mighty Med obviously still used those profits to fund all its organizations. I hope that makes sense. I've discussed this a bit more in a previous post.
I'm still working on what the actual history of humans looks like in this AU. I have a couple of ideas, but I haven't settled on one thing.
As for how Ahsoka found her way outside of her home galaxy. I've been working on that, and it certainly was the result of multiple chain of events coalescing. I'm actually going to release a fic soon that has to do with the result of this poll that deals with one of those early events that causes that chain reaction. I've talked a little about some of those ideas in this post and in this post.
In summary, just as the superhero world uses those with specific supernatural abilities (Ambrose), to record superhero history and current events throughout the universe, turn into comic books and sell as fiction for profit, they also do so for the Star Wars galaxy, despite its more secluded state. [I also head canon that Ambrose survived Mighty Med's destruction and is still selling to publishers, only now he gets to keep all the profit for himself, which after all the abuse he's suffered, he honestly deserves.]
I hope I'm making sense. Feel free to ask more specific questions if you need to, or make suggestions.

It’s a lot of things.
It’s staring out at a city skyline that keeps reminding her of Coruscant despite how different it is. It’s having another girl her age that’s so excited to be her friend. It’s waking up Kaz in the middle of the night because she’s found Oliver crying in the bathroom again, and she knows it’s his best friend that he needs the most. It’s doing everything she can to avoid sleeping, afraid of what she’ll see, what she’ll remember, when she closes her eyes. It’s spending long hours meditating instead, with someone who needs the silence that his computerized mind can never find.
It’s checking over the superhero list again, before Skylar’s anxiety jumps down both their throats, and feeling guilty that she’s doing so much to help them, and not her own people (does that even include surviving jedi, or had the clones already become her people first, even before she left the Order?).
It’s Chase asking her, “Why can’t we do both?”, as though he’s just been waiting these past couple months for her to bring it up. He probably was.
It’s all of these overwhelming things that are causing her hand to shake, as she finally contacts Rex.
__________________________
She still hesitates, sometimes, to take hold of his hand. He’s told her it’s fine, and constantly reaches for her own; it’s not going to trigger his super senses or a glitch. She knows, but she also remembers somehow managing to grab his hand in just the wrong way one day; the tip of the flash drive imbedded in his finger breaking haphazardly through the skin.
He tells her that she won’t hurt him, but she can’t quite wrap her head around that. All she knows is war. She’s wondered (frequently, after the tragedy of the Resolute) if she’s really capable of anything other than hurting and killing.
She doesn’t know. Only knows that when her mind drifts that way, it’s too hazy to think straight, to even properly remember her own thoughts.
She takes hold of his hand, and lets herself relax as their fingers intertwine. Allows herself a small smile, that no one else can see under the shadow of her hooded cloak.
A light rain begins to fall on the platform, warm, pleasant. The sounds of Daiyu’s nightlife continuing to rise around them. Ahsoka takes a deep, calming breath. They need to be alert, they are alert, but she’s here, with Chase by her side, about to reunite with one of her dearest friends. She can allow herself to be hopeful.

Star Wars/Lab Rats Crossover AU Thoughts: Lightsabers & Laser Bos
Tumblr media
Although to a bionic superhuman, a laser bo acts like a blunt, solid weapon; it can impale, hit or trip an opponent but won't burn them; (as we see with Chase & Sebastian's duel) it will slice an ordinary individual in half (mentioned in Elite Force). Meaning that a laser bo is (likely) as lethal as a lightsaber.
Consequently, an ordinary lightsaber would not be able to burn or dismember (most*) bionic super-humans. It would still be able to impale, bruise, or potentially with enough force, break bones. Theoretically, just as they handle a laser bo, a bionic soldier would also be able to grab onto their opponent's blade. However, I think flat lightsaber blades (like the darksaber), could be sharp enough to overcome those weaknesses and dismember bionic opponents, just like metal swords.
*I say "most" because Adam is shown to be sensitive to prolonged contact/exposure to extreme concentrated heat sources on areas other than his eyes. I think enough continuous prolonged contact with a laser bo or lightsaber could burn him. He also seemed more affected by Chase's laser bo than Chase was by Sebastian's laser bident. Since Adam was the first bionic superhuman, and we know Bree and Chase were, to some extent, more advanced than him, and Chase seems to show no issue with prolonged use of his weapon, I think that weakness is likely unique to him.
Also, based on Sebastian & Chase's duels, I think laser bo blades are more likely to break/deactivate against a lightsaber as opposed to the reverse. Especially against lightsabers with unique, stronger crystals.
There is some question as to whether a laser bo could cut through stronger materials than organic matter, like metal. I can't think of any examples where that was attempted. Chase's laser bo did not cut through Great Granite's staff. However, Great Granite's staff also absorbed Leo's laser sphere, and given the kind of powers he would have been used to fighting, I would assume that his staff is made of a lightsaber resistant material. Also, to add to speculation, we know all of the bionic trio's abilities were upgraded after "The Vanishing", and what that meant (if anything) for the strength of Chase's laser bo is never explored.

“It’s not fair.”
Chase tries to hide his amused smile as he turns to face his pouting daughter. “What isn’t fair?”
“That Atarka gets to go on the Balazar mission but I can’t."
“She’s a knight. You’re still a student, and students aren’t allowed on high-risk missions.”
Rexanne crosses her arms. Blue eyes glaring from behind her haphazardly chopped bangs, the rest of her white and grey-blue streaked hair just brushing the black and red shoulders of her uniform. “I’m at the advanced level. If it weren’t for my age, I could already be a knight.”
“You only moved up to the advanced level last month. You still have a little more to learn before being the equivalent of a knight.”
“And when I reach that equivalent, you’ll make me a knight?”
“If by then, you’ve turned eighteen. If not, you’ll remain a student until you do.”
“But that’s four years.”
“There’s a lot you can learn in four years.”
She protests. “But if I don’t go on any high-risk missions, how am I supposed learn how to survive them?”
“With the simulator, and every other aspect of your training that I, your mom, your Uncle Leo, and many others painstakingly designed and constantly update to make sure every student is prepared to face whatever may come their way.”
“It’s not the same. Besides, you and mom were both handling missions at fourteen that you would now classify as high-risk.”
“And we, each respectively, barely made it to seventeen.”
Rexanne rolls her eyes. “You’re just being overprotective.”
Chase breathes in, and lays a hand on her shoulder. “When I was your age, it was my responsibility to sacrifice my life, if necessary, to save others. And I’m not willing to put that expectation on you, or any other fourteen-year-old, or Calderan or other alien biological equivalent to that age. I don’t want you finish your childhood with that duty haunting you.”

Rexanne leans against the cliff wall, barely noticing the jagged edges of the rock digging into her shoulder blade. She glances down, and takes a breath before strengthening her grip under her mother’s arms and pulling her a little further up her lap, a little farther from the water still washing over her legs. She lays two fingers on Ahsoka’s neck, feeling the faint, but steady, thrum of her pulse.
The young woman allows herself to relax, listening the roar of x-wing engines, sensing the wills of those only seeking to offer aid, looking up at the blue of the sky, out to the blue of the water, waves crashing up on the rocky shore, splashing the blue and black of her knight uniform, remembering the blue glow of the strange inter-dimensional place that turned to a fiery haze of her mother’s memories. Haunted by the ghost of a master reteaching his old padawan to live or die, because those were the only two possibilities on a battlefield.
The kind of teacher her parents hadn’t wanted to be to their children until they had left childhood behind.

She waits beside her mother’s bed. Head bowed slightly, quieting her usually turbulent mind.
Her eyes flicker over to the open door.
“You know, it’s not polite to lurk.”
A small green-haired head pops shyly into view. “Sorry, my mom doesn’t know I’m here.”
Rexanne smiles. “Somehow, I’m pretty sure she does.”
The boy (Jacen, is it? Her mom did tell her his name at some point) shrugs sheepishly, but doesn’t comment, curiosity soon lighting up his expression as his eyes savor the room.
His gaze settles on the hilt of one of Rexanne’s lightsabers. “You’re a jedi!”
She shakes her head slightly. “No. I was trained under a different order.”
Jacen furrows his brow. “But your mom’s a jedi.”
“She was raised a jedi, but she left the Order a long time ago. Long before either of us were born.”
The boy crosses his arms. “Okay, but that still makes her basically a jedi. At least that’s what my mom says. And Chopper. And Aunt Sabine. And everyone else, really.”
“That’s all they know, so naturally that’s all they see her as. That doesn’t mean it’s the most accurate perspective.”
Jacen frowns. “Well, I wanna be a jedi.”
Rexanne smiles, amused. “I think that’s something you’d have to talk to Luke Skywalker about.”
“I know. He’s starting a Jedi Academy. My mom won’t let me go, though. She says I’m too young. But I’m ten years old! Jedi of the Old Republic would’ve started their training at like four. I’m brave enough too. I wanna save lives just like my dad.”
Just as a child always desires to be like their parents.
“Training young isn’t a bad thing, I did. But you have to respect whatever your mom decides.”
“But I can do it! I know I can.”
“And I’m sure she knows you can too. It’s not about your abilities. It’s your mom’s responsibility to protect and raise you, because when you’re a child you’re not supposed to be doing that yourself. And one day, when you’ve grown up, you’ll do the same for your own children, or student, or whoever will be yours to care for.”
Jacen frowns. “That’s a long time to wait.”
Yes. “It is. But there are many things to learn while you wait.”
