Chapter 108-2 thoughts

This was the most "IT'S SO OVER" "WE'RE SO BACK" chapter ever. Spoilers under the cut.

I am a leetol bit disappointed that Bishamon didn't really get to do anything this arc. She was unconscious for a majority of it, then woke up, went looking for Kazuma, and found him without like, needing to shake some people up. It is sweet how they finally got to have a proper conversation though. Their lack of communication has been a frustrating blind spot for both of them this entire story, so I'm glad they were able to come to peace with it.

I do wonder if Kazuma told her about being named by Yato, or if he dodged that fact, but I'm going to assume since we didn't get a live Bishamon reaction that he did tell her and she understood his reasoning.

"You are the only one who can save yourself" is kind of a strange statement out of context since this whole manga has been about overcoming trials with the help of the people who love you. But in context, Bishamon was saying that praying to a higher power is meaningless and individuals are the only ones capable of miracles. Kind of an atheistic message from a manga where a majority of the characters are Literal deities, but as an allegory for the world, I kinda dig it. Don't believe in miracles, make them happen with your own two hands and the people who love you.

Okay now I need to talk about Yukine this chapter. I Need To. His love for Hiyori and Yato had me pounding my fist on the ground. HE HELD HIYORI'S HAND. HE CLUNG TO YATO WHEN HE STARTED DISAPPEARING. HE DOESN'T WANT HIS DAD TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ADACHITOKA I AM JUST A GUY PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON MY FRAGILE HEART.

FATHER IS FINALLY DEAD SEND OUT THE CRABS. I'm glad his death was quiet and unceremonious, and not even Mizuchi was tempted by him.

It seems like the real Fujisaki was trying to say Father's name but couldn't quite recall it, so I'm thinking we'll get to hear it from Ebisu's mouth next chapter. Then again, we didn't get to hear Nana's real name either, so it may just stay as "ta" forever. Which is funny to think about as in like, "ta" for "bye." Bye bitch!

The pages of the trio + Nora all together and begging Hiyori to come back singlehandedly caused the most emotional damage. I know everyone else is freaking out about the Yatori CPR/kiss but I am just wishing the circumstances were more ideal for it. I will say it is pretty Kyoru of them to kiss while she's unconscious, though.

But, eh, her being alive was way more of a concern to me, so that was the reason I went ahead and read the official version early. I let out the BIGGEST sigh of relief when she woke up in the hospital.

Before I reflect more though, I wanted to say also I was pretty confused by Amaterasu's statement in the official translation, though fast-moon's helped clear it up. Hiyori didn't become a full shinki because she was named in the illusory dimension, and she was saved by the act of killing Father?

"You were carrying the ancient koto no ha with you as well" is the "you" referring to Father or Yato? Did Yato name Hiyori with the brush, or was she talking about Father having both on him?

Okay, so, reflections. Am I happy they temporary killed Hiyori? Still no. I would have preferred they damage her cord instead rather than way back when, when the wolves attacked her. Am I happy they brought her back? Obviously. It would be a bad ending if they left off on that, and I'm curious to see if/how much she'll remember in the final chapter.

Do I think Yato is dead? I sure hope not! This is also a death that would negate a whole lot of character development, and while I like the narrative parallel of her dying to save him so he dies to save her (esp considering how selfish he was at the start of the manga), I don't want Yukine to be left alone or with a baby Yato at the end of everything. I'm scared, because I think it's not off the table.

Am I happy with the ending? Remains to be seen, but while I have quibbles and hangups, it's not that much. It's not of the story-ruining variety for me, anymore. I kind of would have preferred a softer ending to the manga, for example. This entire story has had very high stakes for everyone involved, so they didn't need to up the ante with these constant main character death scares, imo. We were already quite deep in the shit. I also wish Hiyori had had more to do in the final arc before she saved the day by...dying.

But to say I didn't enjoy the journey of this arc would be a lie. It's been a long few years...almost 10 since I watched the anime, almost 9 since I read the manga, and mainly it'll be weird to say goodbye to this era of my life, and not have the monthly stress of chapters hanging over my head.

I was hoping Adachitoka would announce a new series, but it hasn't happened yet, and I'm not sure it will because they've been unable to commit to full chapters for a while now. Even before the hiatus in 2017, the chapters dropped from 45 pages to 40, and then we've been halfsies since 2018. Whatever caused Adachitoka to go on hiatus, it's been enough of an issue that they can't draw 45 pages on a monthly schedule anymore (and honestly, I don't blame them, as we all know mangaka schedules are brutal). Also, taking Alive into account, they've been drawing manga for 20 years. This might be their final story, or they might write another with an assistant. Either way, if they do something else, regardless of their role I'll definitely be checking it out!

So now that Hiyori has been undoomed from the narrative the wedding reread is back on. I'll be starting it soon here, all tagged with #Noragami reread and hopefully some of you will join me as well! Feel free to send me your thoughts on the chapter/the ending.

i got tagged in an ask game by @bleachbleachbleach! pretty excited about this bc i've been wanting to participate in a tag game ever since making an account - this one is my first ^^

Three Ships: i'll go with my comfort otps: Ichihime from Bleach, Kyoru from Fruits Basket, and Gajevy from Fairy Tail.

First Ship: probably Miroku x Sango from Inuyasha! that was my first ever anime and i was far more invested in them than i was in the main leads lmao. turned out to be pretty formative bc a lot of my otps have the same "openly competent badass x surprisingly competent dumbass" dynamic lmao.

Last Song: My Mother Told Me (specifically a cover by The Hound + The Fox). it's an old Viking shanty, very melancholy with lots of bass, and it's been stuck on a loop in my brain for the past several hours.

Last Film: technically Trolls 3 bc i was babysitting yesterday, but i don't want that one to count lol. the last film i watched of my own volition was the 2017 Murder on the Orient Express, which i HIGHLY recommend!!! it's a masterpiece *chef's kiss*

Currently Reading: Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. it's...okay-ish so far. i can see why people like it, but tbh i think the clumsy translation is holding it back. i've also been really into reincarnation/isekai stories but specifically ones where the MC does Not want to be involved in this shit and spends the entire story searching for a way out lmao.

Currently Watching: Ghosts (UK version). it's by the same group who did Horrible Histories, and i'm not exaggerating when i say every episode is laugh out loud funny - it combines typical British humor with black comedy and just a dash of historical drama, and i've had to stop myself from binging the whole thing in one go multiple times.

Currently Consuming: double-salted licorice, which is a Dutch candy that's exactly what it sounds like. it's burning my tongue and drowning out every other sense i have with its overpowering flavor, just the way i like it :D

you being a kataang shipper was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. you have an affinity for emotionally intense and obsessive ships (eremika, judecardan, everlark) and kataang is very wholesome/pure at its romantic core. what makes kataang special/different for you? and im excited for your kataang fic <3

people have told me they’re surprised by me liking it which i think is so funny. tbh i think my taste in ships ranges pretty wide? i love emotionally volatile, obsessive ships, but i also am deeply in love with everlark and kyoru. it all just depends on the quality of the relationship to me. and also i tend to prefer canon ships if for no other reason than there’s more content for them and i like being correct LMAO.

as for what i like about them, im just very touched by their bond and the depth of feeling they have for each other. objectively speaking, katara and aang’s relationship is the heart and soul of the show. each finale ends with a focus on them and she is the narrator of his story. they’re best friends and soulmates and they have a bunch of tropes that i love. the prophecy trope? i fucking LOVE when stories have someone visit a fortune teller or have a fortune teller tell them about their true love and it’s their love interest (regardless of if theyre aware of their feelings for them yet). its just the right smack of fate to me. also their parallels with oma and shu. the kataango. katara getting jealous of any girl that expresses interest in him. aang getting jealous of men that express interest in her. they also have the trope where she’s the ONE PERSON who can calm him down from murderous, primal rages which is another one of my favorite tropes (thank you inuyasha). just so many good wonderful things about them i love them.

also the first scene of them that i vividly remember watching as a kid was their finale kiss. the passion of the kiss and the swelling score and the pan up to the pink sky quite literally shifted my brain chemistry. i could not help but stan.

Kyo slides open the door to their home, calling out to Tohru. "I'm home!" He raises an eyebrow when he doesn't hear her pattering footsteps and calling back to him. Where could she be?

He pulls off his shoes and makes his way to their bedroom. That's when he hears her voice. "Kyo-kun?"

He wonders if something is wrong when he reaches the door, noticing it's closed. "Tohru? Are you okay?"

"Y-Yes, Kyo-kun! You can come in!" She says on the other side. He turns the knob and opens the door, unprepared for what he will see.

"W-W-" He's suddenly lost his ability to speak. Words are stuck in his throat.

Tohru turns to face him, her face prettily pink. "A-Ayame sent this… the package came this morning and um, kyo-kun," She grabbed a whip he hadn't noticed sitting on the bed. "What's this whip for?"

Kyo is frozen in place. He is feeling a lot at once. He can feel his reaction to the-the whatever the fucking hell Ayame decided was a good idea to send to TOHRU. He wanted to kick his ass and also thank him. He tried to take Tohru into his arms and tell her precisely what the whip was. He wanted to also run away at full speed into the forest. 

“K-Kyo-kun?” Tohru asks after a beat of silence. "Do you not like it?"

"Do I not-" Kyo rubs the back of his neck, his face flushed, even if this is his wife and he's known Tohru for years now, and yet seeing her like this is just too much to handle. How in the world can he collect all of his thoughts?

"It's a lot, isn't it?" Tohru asks with a timid smile. "It's a lot for me, too; I've never worn anything like this before-"

"Never ever," Kyo says.

"Never ever." Tohru agrees. 

"Yuki will beat my ass and his brothers' ass if he knew-Shigure would never let us hear the end of it-"

"I'm guessing he probably knows. I mean, it's Ayame, right?" Tohru fidgets so cutely even though she's wearing a freaking leather suit that is so fucking naughty, and every little moment even the most innocent, just look even sexier when you are wearing a dominatrix outfit.

Kyo groans, placing a hand on his face. "You're right." He says, thinking about that damn smutty writer he calls a relative laughing his ass off when Ayame likely told him about the gift he'd be sending to Tohru.

"H-How do you feel about it, Tohru?" 

"I-I mean, it's a lot. I've never worn anything like this…. But if you liked it, Kyo, that could help me like it more." 

Kyo can't see her face, but he imagines her face is reddening more like he is. 

"I-I do…" He whispers.

"What was that, Kyo-kun?"

"I LIKE IT. I WANT TO TAKE YOU TO BED RIGHT NOW, AND I ALSO RUN OUT OF HERE." He turns away from her out of embarrassment and maybe also to book it out of the room. 

“K-Kyo-kun…” Tohru blushes heavily at his confession. 

"B-But Tohru, you know you never have to wear anything like this to make me want you more… but I do want you every day…."

Tohru smiles shyly. "I-I know, Kyo-kun, but wouldn't it be fun to... Spice it up a little bit?"

A shiver runs down Kyo's spine. He turns back and moves his hand away from his face, looking at her curiously.

"Is that what you really want, Tohru? You aren't just doing this to make me happy or the fucking idiot you send you this?"

Tohru nods, approaching him. He flinches slightly, seeing her come toward him, wearing what she is, but relaxes as he gazes into her brown eyes and considers the Tohru he's always known and loved. Dominatrix outfit or not. 

"Shall we have some fun, Kyo-kun?" She asks, trailing her hand from his waist to up his arm. It gives Kyo goosebumps instantly from her touch.

"F-Fun?"

Tohru's eyes wrinkle with a mischievous look that gives Kyo a deep red blush on his cheeks.

"For the rest of the night, we can have all the fun... If you'd like."

"F-Fuck." Kyo breathes, pulling Tohru into his arms and kissing her passionately. He can't hold back anymore.

He tugs at the front of her "outfit," giving it a firm tug to free her breasts from it. He palms them gently, and Tohru mewls into their kiss. She guides them over to the bed without breaking the kiss, Kyo still busily wanting to rid Tohru of the fabric on her body.

She briefly releases their kiss, blushing, "Don't remove it all, Kyo-kun. We're going to play, aren't we?"

"We are, indeed, my naughty little Tohru." He nearly growls out her name, tackling them both to the bed.

Tohru's breathy moans in his ears as he attacks her neck, collarbone, and chest with kisses. When his lips wrap around her nipple, he feels her fingers tangling into his orange hair. 

“K-Kyo-kun!” She sounds so breathless it sends a wave of tingles down his back. His crotch tightens even further in his pants. He wants to keep hearing the little noises she makes, gliding his tongue against her nipple and around the areola. 

Kyo eventually removes his lips from Tohru's nipple, leaving a trail of saliva. He's moving from her chest to her stomach, tugging at the corset to expose more of her beautiful skin. 

"Kyo-kun," Tohru whispers. "You've forgotten something."

Kyo glances up at her, lifting his brow. 

"You haven't played with my other nipple yet," Tohru explains, gesturing to her left breast.

Kyo grins, happily moving back to take her left nipple into his mouth and suckling it like a baby. Tohru makes a happy noise to tell him how much she appreciates it.
