what did you think of Hitagi?
Hitagi my beloved was the one character I thought was the safest option for my favorite out of the cast. Of course I have a lot more to see, but in Bakemonogatari it's easy to see why. That one picture of her lifting her skirt enough so that all her "weapons" fall is such an immense rose taste thing. not to be confused with a rose core thing.
She's so everything. As with Koyomi's point of view I think the show does a fantastic job at making you see why he'd choose someone like this. She's so good. She. How do I even put this into words
Every scene she was in was extremely important. I was wrong about her being my very favorite (for now) but all her scenes were. Hitagi is such an incredible person in this show. No one gets across such a strong feeling of trust like her, with her reasoning for things, her way of talking, her sense of humor, there wasn't a single thing she did in this show that didn't make me feel so much for her. The phone call with Koyomi in the last arc was so so so so. so. Y'know?

was thinking of my beloved hanekawa tsubasa and..
one thing i love about her is that every ship with her works (excepting the kids of course)
koyomi? sure yeah, classic.
hitagi? sure yeah, classic No2
kanbaru? not seen often but we all know it would work and no, i'm neither going to explain or argue about it
ougi? not a classic but it works, why? because i say so.
sodachi? revolutionary, suitable more than shown (thanking @studentofetherium for making me see them as a ship in the first place)

I'm rereading the monogatari novels after having watched the anime. I do love that Senjougahara watched her dearly beloved Araragi seemingly fight thin air, gloat about it, and still picked him.
Love wins.
hi this for some reason wasn't showing up in my inbox until just now
anyway yeah!! i think it's a great moment for a lot of different ways
for one, the way that Hitagi tries to conform to normality by not revealing that she can't see Mayoi is great, because after so long of not being normal, she just wants to fit in, but also once she learned what was going on, i imagine it was comforting for her that she's in good company, that not only is Koyomi irrevocably weird, but also that anyone else he meets is also weird. that sort of company would be really comforting
and that's likely a feeling that persisted even past this, since she continues to be in good company, with both Suruga and Tsubasa also experiencing these weird events, and later on, Sodachi who she befriends has also dealt with a lot, even if there isn't the supernatural baggage. this is all really lowkey and i'm honestly stretching here but i do think that the way that people support others is itself a theme of Monogatari. after all, people can only help themselves, but that's only for the final step, and frequently people will need help getting to that point
but yeah. it's a good relationship and i feel strongly about them

You knew full well there were three things Reki Kyan loved more than life itself.
1, skateboarding.
2, you.
3, your and his boyfriend, Langa Hasegawa.
Not necessarily in that order.
However, recently, he’d picked up a new hobby. For the last few months, whenever you visited, Koyomi sat and complained about how she was tired of hearing him slamming the strings of his guitar.
As funny as it was listening to her complain, you were quite curious to hear how all this practice was coming along. Anytime you or Langa asked he brushed it off and changed the subject as fast as possible. You were sure he wasn’t hiding anything because he would talk about it once in a while, but he didn’t seem to want to play anything in front of either of you. You figured he was nervous—not many people could play in front of a crowd, even if it was only the two of you.
Until today, at least.
He invited you over a few days prior, saying he had some sort of surprise. So when you sat on his bed (Langa curled up and laying in your lap), you grinned as he pulled out his guitar.
“You playing something, Reki?” Langa asked, picking up his head slightly.
“Nah, im just gonna make you stare at me while i make no noise,” he said sarcastically, no real venom behind his words.
You scoffed and blew him a kiss from across the room. “Whatcha playing, then? Anything we know?”
“Just something I found online a couple of weeks ago, nothing super special, I think it’s pretty.”
“Hey, don’t do that.” you cut in, shooting him a reassuring look. He had a nasty habit of playing down his interests, so you did all you could to make him feel as special as you and Langa both knew he was. “I’m sure it's great.”
He smiled but didn't say anything, fidgeting and tuning. “Koyomi hates when I do this too loud, it's funny. Gets all sorts of mad because she says it’s ‘the same boring crap over and over’.”
“I mean this in the nicest way possible: your sister is boring because i like your song.”
“Langa, im not playing anything. I’m just tuning.”
“Oh…”
You laughed and kissed Langa’s head. “Idiot.”
He pouted at you, but you knew he wasn't upset. Hard to be upset when he looked so comfortable and you were playing with his hair.
Reki fidgeted with his phone for a minute or so before turning back to the two of you. “You’re not allowed to judge, alright, because its not great.”
“Reki.”
“it’s not wonderful, but im proud og myself and i wanted to show you—”
“Reki.”
“What?”
You smiled at him. “I'm sure it’s amazing, babe.” Langa nodded, reaffirming your statement. “Just play. I won’t look right at you if that would make you less nervous.”
“That would help, actually.”
“Got it.”
You looked away, suddenly finding a very interesting pattern of glow-in-the-dark star stickers you’d seen a million times before. He fidgeted for a minute or two longer before he finally started playing. And then singing.
I don't do this often You caught me off guard All of my friends said you moved out west You tell me stories underneath sun sets Could it be more than just one night? Kiss in the cab ride Head turning left right Get a ticket for two To wherever you choose Drinking some red out of the blue
You weren’t sure if you’d ever heard him sing by himself. If he did, it was always with the radio, and he never cared how he sounded. Instead, now, he sounded nice. Not a perfect, angel-like voice but one that was warm and comforting.
For only playing for a few months, he sounded good. And singing and playing at the same time was harder than doing one or the other, so you had to applaud him for that.
Hey boy Trust my intuitions Always I'm not superstitious I got lucky Stole your heart And it was mine for the taking
He played through the end of the song, letting the strings ring out. Reki refused to look up at you—at first, at least. He set his guitar down and swiped out the app on his phone, before finally turning toward the two of you.
“So…?’
You weren’t sure about Langa, but you knew you had a wide grin on his face. If you were smart before he started playing you would have recorded it and kept it for yourself (and maybe Langa) because the way he played it was a perfect song to fall asleep to.
You held your hand out to him wordlessly, and when he sat next to the two of you on his bed, you grabbed his face and kissed him all over. “That was amazing, sweetheart! You're so talented.”
“Eh, i kinda screwed up my words in the—”
Any other words were lost against your lips. When he started that, you found it was easier to shut him up and then reassure him. “It was wonderful. I mean it.”
He looked to langa for approval as well. He smiled at the two of you and kissed reki’s knuckles. “I really like your voice,” he said stretching upward for a kiss.
He obliged, then laid his head on your shoulder. “I was so nervous to do that,” he sighed, burying his face in your arm. “You two are lucky i love you.”
“Yes, yes we are.”
“Love you too, red.”
“You guys are making me blush, stop it!”

tsubasa, 14 16?
Tsubasa my beloved...... 14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to the character? Curious. I'm not really good at picking out specific names for aesthetics, but interestingly enough, Tsubasa has a whole single casual outfit she wears, and it's during koimonogatari. Jeans, a green coat, a plaid button-up and a sweater. It's very cozy, and she wears that jacket later when she Wins. So I think she's very much a cozy and practicalmaxxer over anything lookswise. (except the jacket rules. and also this fits really into neko white doesn't it?
16. My least favourite ship for Hanekawa????? Without thinking about it, if Hanekawa isn't shipped with Koyomi, Hitagi, Sodachi, or Kiss Shot, I don't really care. I can see the fire sisters or Kanbaru, Rouka or Ougi too perhaps if you really work for it. So everything else I'll run a skip on.
Ask game over here!

Monogatari Read-Along Re-Watch — Karen Bee
Previously.
Novel
Ah, the Yandere Hitagi scene. This is the most involved cold open so far, and well done. Hitagi continues to be the character who most leans in to tropes. This is not a bad thing by any means, rather it's a lens NISIOISIN can hold up to her and highlight her personality in her deviations from the tropes. In the stereotypical yandere trope, the yandere isolates their beloved from others in order to make them fully dependent on the yandere physically and emotionally. Often this is framed as "protecting" the target from danger, usually in the form of competing love interests. Hitagi plays the scene as though she intends to do the same with Koyomi, but she takes the efforts to keep him dependent on her to such high levels that it is clear that she is teasing (in her usual extreme way) rather than brainwashing him into loving her. We will later find out that her actions are an impulse reaction to hearing Koyomi has encountered Kaiki, whom she considers the most dangerous person for him to interact with. In this sense, she is indeed doing this for his protection, closing the circle of the comparison to the yandere archetype by making it clear that her feelings come from her fear and love rather than some sort of twisted self interest.
Kaiki himself is an important recurring character, through you wouldn't know it from this arc. One of the big questions of Karen Bee (and Nise in general) is the value of a phony. Kaiki presents himself as a non-believer in oddities, even as he is aware of changes to the spirital situation in the area and distinguishes real from fake in a way that could only come from study. In this sense he is a phony phony, using real knowledge while denying its truth to himself and the world. Kaiki is shameless in his fakery, fully self-aware of his despicable actions and insincerity in all his interactions. He presents himself as completely remorseless about the harm caused by his schemes. Even this is a façade to some extent, as we get tiny hints of consideration for others in his checking to make sure Karen has enough money to go home when he robs her and his telling Hitagi that the man who tried to rape her is dead and thus not worth dwelling on as a target of some possible future revenge. There are layers of lies here too. Why would he know that, if he claims not to care about those he swindles? If he's making it up, why would he lie in order to help someone?
Karen, our nominal focus character, confuses me. She's brash and passionate, and even Koyomi has to acknowledge their similarity in acting selflessly. There's no question whether she has the big personality needed to stand among the other characters. The thing is, I still don't feel like I get her. What are her dreams, her fears, her aspirations, her doubts? She wants Justice with capital letters, and projects what that means onto the world. I also have more trouble understanding her relationships than I do any other character. I guess it's in character for her to have unsubtle points of view on people — Yes Justice good, No Justice bad until made into Yes Justice — but I definitely feel like I'm missing things. After the fight with Koyomi he tells her not to develop a crush on him, and she says "too late". That's a somewhat ambiguous answer right now, but I'll be coming back to that after the upcoming Toothbrush Scene.
Structurally, this arc is primarily a sequel to Nadeko Snake, following up on the major loose end of the source of the curses and reminding us that Nadeko didn't really resolve her hopeless crush on Koyomi in that arc. It also introduces Kaiki and the name "Gaen" (linking Suruga into the wider plot as result). Looking forward, yuri aficionado Suruga picks up on things to do with Hitagi and Tsubasa's relationship that will come up soon.
Anime
When I first watched Monogatari as it was airing, Karen Bee was my least favorite arc. As of my previous watch through (not having read the novels yet) it was third least favorite. (I already said what I don't like about Kizumonogatari, and I'll talk about Koyomimonogatari when I get there.) After this watch, that hasn't really changed. I think it just comes down to pacing. It gives each plot point the time it deserves, but the result is the longest arc in the television series in terms of screen minutes.
Still, saying something one of my least favorite Monogatari arcs is like saying one of my least favorite cookies. Like the rest of Monogatari, Karen Bee in the anime is especially held up by how the animation supports what's there. The conversations are generally visually engaging, and make great use of symbolic details to varying degrees of subtlety to communicate things unspoken.
The music is also great as always, with some new tracks added where appropriate. This was the first time I caught the Renai Circulation quote in Yuuwaku, which plays during the visit to Nadeko's house. There's yet another minor key Staple Stable variant during the conversation with Hitagi in episode 6, as well as a more direct reference in Hitagi's new OP. (OK from now on I'm going to stop pointing out when the show uses the theme-song-as-lietmotif trick to set the appropriate mood while calling upon the associations with the character unless it's an especially notable case.)
Conclusion
I wish I liked Karen Bee more. The themes aren't poorly communicated at all — if anything they're beaten through your head. There are lots of strong individual conversations and such, but damn does it somehow feel like it drags.
Really it comes down to I don't think I understand this arc fully — surely the length would be worth it if I did. What was Karen's actual problem? Did she solve it, and if so, how? Was this actually a Koyomi and Hitagi arc and I just missed it? Feel free to explain it to me, because I would really like to understand. For now I'll look back at Nisemonogatari as a whole after Tsukihi Phoenix and see if things are more clear.

Underrated Anime Part 1:
Hello my fellow Weebs, I’m back for some more Anime blogging, this time to talk about so not so well known ones. Some that have got forgotten with time, some that new Anime fans have maybe never heard of and the ones that I feel deserve more love and recognition. I’ve been watching Anime for about 13 years so I’ve seen a lot so this will be in at least 3 parts, so hopefully you like this and look forward to more. Til then enjoy, hope you can find some new anime you’ve never heard of thanks for reading and look forward to part 2!.
1. Azumanga Daioh(2002)
Tumblr media
Starting off with an older Anime, and one of the best and earlier comedy, slice of life Anime that paved the way for a lot of other Anime in the same genre like Nichijou and Daily Lives of High School Boys. Off the wall and highly unrealistic, this comedy is completely over the top in the best way possible. it’s old but gold and should be crowned as one of the best comedy Anime to exist.
With the most lovable cast, you have Chiyo the 5th grader who is so crazy smart she gets placed in a high school class, then there’s Osaka, who’a real name is Ayumu Kasuga who’s named that because she‘s from Osaka. Osaka isn’t the smartest and neither is her other classmate Tomo Takino who will do anything to avoid studying. Then to balance out the cast is Koyomi Mizuhara aka Yomi, the smart one who keeps everyone in line and Kagura the sporty one. Then of course can’t forget to mention the teachers Yukari Sensei who is anything but the normal responsible teacher and to balance her out Minamo Sensei the responsible one. There’s no real plot with Azumanga Daioh but there’s not meant to be it’s just an over the top comedy slice of life, with moments that will make you laugh from your gut. It’s all about the characters and the ridiculous situations their put in and each one is a lovable idiot that really drives the show. Give this one a shot if you want a show that will put a big smile on your face the whole way through.
2. Eden of The East (2009)
Tumblr media
Another older Anime, not everything on this list will be older Anime but there’s so many good ones like this!. Eden of The East is an action, mystery with elements of romance with one of the most unique stories I’ve seen in Anime. It’s a short watch being only eleven episodes with two movies following after which I recommend watching because they continue the story. I’m really surprised not more people know or talk about this show but it need to be talked about more!.
With one of the funniest and most bizarre starts to an Anime, our lead charcter Saki is on a trip to Washington D.C, when she gets in trouble for throwing a coin in the White House’s fountain she’s saved by a naked man who claims to be a terrorist. Not only is this mysterious man naked and claims to be a terrorist, he also has amnesia and is carrying a phone with 8.2 million dollars. Saki befriends this strange man and throughout the story they try to uncover more of his past, his involvment in an incident called careless monday and a dangerous death game with other players. They must also spend all of the money as instucted by the mysterious voice in the phone Juiz as well as try to save the world.
3. R.O.D The TV( 2003)
Tumblr media
Ok I know I said this list wouldn’t only be older Anime but I guess the older Anime just has my heart and this one has a special place in mine. One of my all time favorites and one of the earliest Anime I saw and it still holds up to me til this day. It is hands down probably the most underrated show on this entire list and if you only watch one of these Anime please make it this one. The story is completely original, the characters are complex and endearing, there’s action, heartwarming moments, comedy and mystery, I wish there was more Anime like it, it deserves to be a classic.
It‘s a one of a kind show about the paper sisters Michelle, the oldest bubbly bookworm, Maggie the seemingly intimidating quiet giant. Then you have the youngest sister Anita who unlike her sisters hates books, she’s a bit rough around the edges but loves her sisters. Although they aren’t actually sisters they have a detective agency to help find lost books to help pay for rent while also doing odd jobs like being body guards. Their first assignment is to protect the author, Nenene Sumiragawa who is being threatened to be killed at her book signing. The paper sisters aren’t called that just because of their love of books, they can turn paper into weapons and whatever else they please, but each having their speciality. Nenene finds out they‘re paper sisters just like her friend who ‘s missing, Yomiko Readman and asks them for help finding her. They try to help Nenene find her friend, while solving other cases and saving the world with the power of paper.
4. Baccano(2007)
Tumblr media
Probably the most well known but also I think one of the most under appreciated Anime, from Durarara’s creator, Baccano. I feel like most newer Anime fans won’t know this one and although it’s a beloved series by many, I still feel it’s underrated. Also another bias opinion shocker, it’s one of my absolute favorites but that’s why it’s here. It’s once again a shorter anime with only 13 episodes but it somehow manages to combine all of the storylines cohesively, it’s a wild ride full of mystery, murder, and magic that will keep you on board the entire time trying to piece everything together. Also warning it jumps around a lot so make sure to pay attention everything pieces together!.
Based in the 1930’s in the prohibition era you have several stories involving different characters going on but they‘re all connected to one thing the transcontinental train, the flying pussyfoot. Yes that’s actually the name of the train, why, still no idea but all these characters from different walks of life end up here somehow. Now to introduce some of these crazy characters, first off the goofy thieves in love Isaac and Miria, who aren’t the brightest but can steal just about anything. Lad Russo the sadistic hit man who loves to see people die, including fantasizing about killing his fiancé one day. Then you have the ones involved in gangs, all In different ones, but nonetheless involved in some sort of crime. First there’s Firo, the youngest of the Martello family and one of the immortals in the show, then there’s Jacuzzi Splot and his partner Nice, Jacuzzi is a big wimp and crybaby but will protect his loved ones with all he’s got and Nice is a bomb expert and his childhood food. Those are some of the main characters it’s such a large cast it’s hard to name and explain them all. This one is a must watch especially if you liked Durarara, jump on the hype train of this wild show.
5. Black Cat (2005)
Tumblr media
Now quick disclaimer before I begin talking about this one, I haven’t watched this in years so it may not hold up as well as I’m remembering but when I watched it I really enjoyed it so that’s why it’s here. This was one of the earlier Anime I watched I’m pretty sure my friend showed me it but it caught my interest from the beginning. It’s not the most groundbreaking show to exist and I’ve heard that the manga is apparently better but that’s for almost every show. It’s got cool action, funny moments and a great cast of characters, plus not gonna lie I had a crush on train when I was younger. its just a fun show and definitely worth giving a watch!
Train Heartnett is an infamous cold blooded assassin who works for the organization Chronos, and because of his lack of empathy for killing he’s named Black Cat. But after a chance encounter with a bou hunter named Saya Minatsuki, they become friends and Train decided he wants to leave Chronos to pursue an honest living as a bounty Hunter. However chronos and particular his fellow member Creed Diskenth are not pleased with this and try to get Train to rejoin Chronos. Along the way Train teams up with fellow bounty hunter on the brink of broke Sven, the bio mech weapon and little girl Eve and master thief and seductress Rinslet Walker. Together they try to escape from Chronos and get enough money for their next .
6. Arakawa Under The Bridge(2010)
Tumblr media
Where do I begin with this one first off, this is one of the weirdest Anime I’ve ever seen but just like Azumanga Daioh that’s what make it so good. Beautifully animated by Studio Shaft with some of the most colorful and visually appealing animation I’ve seen, it’s pure eye candy. it’s equally as strange as it is hilarious and it’s just a fun time that’s not meant to be taken seriously. So if you want a good laugh and something thats truly one of a kind in story and characters give this crazy show a shot.
The show begins with one of our main characters Kou Ichinomiya getting stuck by his underwear on a bridge by some kids, he falls into the river and is saved by a mysterious girl. Kou is the son of a wealthy businessman and his life motto is to not be indebted to anyone, so when he’s saved by this girl he asks what he can do. He finds out that her name is Nino and what she wants is to fall in love, so she asks Kou to be her boyfriend. At first Nino seems like a regular girl but she claims to be an alien from Venus and lives in a box under the bridge, not wanting to be in debt Kou agrees and begins living under the bridge with Nino. However Nino isn’t the only one who lives under the bridge there are many other strange characters like hoshi, the aspiring musician who wears a star on his head, and the captain who’s a human in a kappa suit. I highly suggest watching this strange sci-fi romantic comedy for something different and fun to watch.
7. 91 Days (2016)
Tumblr media
The newest Anime on this list so far, see I told you it wouldn’t be only old ones!, this is also the darkest Anime on this list so far. This has been highly overlooked since it’s release in 2016, it reminds me of baccano and in parts like death note. If you like mafia movies or just a dark gritty story with some light hearted moments, it s short show but nothing is rushed and it’s solid from front to back and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Just like Baccano, 91 Days takes place in the prohibition era in a town called Lawless where crime is rampant and illegal alcohol sales are thriving. In this town our protagonist Aviicio‘s family is killed by one of the mafia families, The Vanetti Family. He receives a mysterious anonymous letter telling him to return to lawless to infiltrate The Vanetti Family. He tries to befriend the families son Nero, to find an opportunity for revenge, the story keep you constantly guessing if they’ve truly become friends or if he’ll kill him. Please watch this wonderful mafia crime drama of friend vs foe.
8. Yamada Kun and The Seven Witches (2015)
Tumblr media
This is one of the ones that I still really want to read the manga for because I just couldn’t get enough of it! i’m still hoping for a sequel one day! The premise of body swapping has been done many times in Anime and cinema as a whole but this one adds a unique enough of a twist to keep it fresh and interesting. I looked forward to watching this weekly each week meeting a learning about each new witch and learning what power they had.
Ryuu Yamada is a high school delinquent who wants a fresh start at a new school, despite the intention to start with a clean slate he soon falls into old habits of laziness and getting into fights. One day he trips on the stairs which leads to an accidental kiss with fellow student Urarara Shiraishi which causes them to switch bodies. Another student Toranosuke Miyamura learns that they can switch bodies and recruits them to his Supernatural Studies club. There they learn about the other seven witches that all have different powers
9. Arslan Senki (2015-2016)
Tumblr media
The second to last of the list comes from the creator of my all time favorite Anime Fullmetal Alchemist, while it’s a very different series and not quite as good as FMA it’s still deserves a spot on this list and deserves your time. It’s hard not to compare it to FMA but it really is it’s own thing, and it actually came out before Fullmetal, it’s a historical drama about war and strategy and a character growing into his potential. Just as Hiromu Arakawa is known for there’s still some comedic moments and some great character development and a well done story, Plus if you like this there’s two seasons so there more to enjoy.
Ok I promise from this point forward I won‘t say anything more about Fullmetal Alchemist this is about Arslan Senki, here’s the story. In the year 320 the Kingdom of Pars is at war with the neighboring kingdom Lusitania. Pars is ruled by the ruthless king Andrangoras III who has a son who’s the complete opposite of him Arslan. Although he doesn’t know how to fight Arslan tries to prove his worth by joining the battle, but things take a turn for the worst when one of the kings officials betrays him. The once prosperous Kingdom of Pars is seized, and since Arslan is the kings son he must flee to avoid capture. So he sets off with his loyal bodyguard Daryun to find allies to help take back the kingdom. Knowing that Arslan is still alive he is still faced with pursuers from other kingdoms and the head of the Lusitania army, a mysterious man with a silver mask who knows a secret that could jeopardize Arslan‘s succession to the throne. Arslan is a gentle, kind person that doesn’t enjoy fighting, he must learn to fight and protect himself and gain the courage to lead an army to regain his home.
10. Shingeki No Bahamut: Genesis (Rage of Bahamut) (2014)
Tumblr media
Leaving one of the best for last, not to be confused with the popular series with a similar name Shingeki no Kyojin(Attack on Titan) this show is just as good. One of the first shows from one of my favorite Anime studios, Studio Mappa. I had low expectations when I heard this was a card game adaptation from a new anime studio but I decided to check it out despite that and it was the best decision. This has all the elements of a great anime, the beautiful animation, the unique characters and the compelling story and all the cool action scenes are just a plus. There is a second season too but I’ll leave that for another time, ok time to stop gushing about this wonderful show, time for the story!.
Years and years ago the ancient powerful dragon Bahamut reeked havoc on Mistarcia, a land where gods and demons lived harmoniously with humans. The gods and demons manage to seal away Bahamut with the god key and agree to split it to keep him sealed. Now that the the peace has been restored we meet the main characters and one of my favorites the orange Afro haired bounty hunters Favaro Leone. Favaro is constantly on the run from his adversary and fellow bounty hunter Kaiser Lidfard who‘s main purpose in life is to get revenge on him. One day both of their lives are thrown into chaos when they meet the mysterious girl Amira who holds half of the god key sealing Bahamut and wants help reaching the land of Helheim. I also can’t forget to mention my other favorite character and the fourth member of this unlikely crew Rita the zombie necromancer little girl she is just the definition of cool. Then there’s the characters that want to steal the god key the demon Azazel and the knight Jean D’Arc who are constantly in the characters way but you’ll find out more about them in the show. These unlikely heroes must face the threat of the battle of gods and demons, the pursuers of the god key and incoming threat of Bahamut awakening.

Sk8 5 6 8 13 for fandom ask
5. who is your favorite character (and maybe why?)
Cherry Blossom my beloved pls i know it's predictable but i remember he was the first sk8 character i drew back when ep 4 had just aired and my caption was about how i want his backstory, but probably won't get it:( and BOY was i wrong huh. It ended up being not only sadder but more relatable than i thought it'd be:) ep 9 had me feeling things i had never felt before or ever since tbh
6. when you first think of the fandom, what image comes to mind?
My roommate's fanarts, Pixi's koyomi-miya friendship fanfic, and the tiktok side of the fandom. Peaceful. Not a lot (but not few either), but we were SO invested.
8. WHY did you join the fandom???
My roommate was VERY excited for it. I liked to hear her talk about it but im not really a sports anime kinda guy. She then said there's a mecore catboy and i was sold. But it took a while. In the end idk where we would be if i hadnt decided to see what the fuss was about. Like genuinely many of yall would not be following me rn probably.
13. if you could be in the universe of the characters what would you do first?
I wanna go to Joe's restaurant😭

miya :3 or langa for the chracter thingey
Miya: 1. How I feel about this character: BELOVED I love him so so so much! I just want good things for him 2. All the people I ship romantically with this character: I don’t really ship him with anyone, however the only ship that I don’t actively hate is him and Koyomi because they’re the same age and she hasn’t done anything bad to him. Still prefer them as friends though. 3. My non-romantic OTP for this character: Him with Koyomi, Reki, and Cherry are my favorite friendships for him! Him and Koyomi are both mean 13 year olds however they are different in the ways that make them fun to watch! Him and Reki just have such a powerful sibling bond and I am angry we never got to see them hug. I feel like Cherry would make a really good mentor to Miya because of how similar they are as people and their values as skaters overlap a lot. Also, Miya seems to hold a lot of respect for Cherry and admires fae a lot! 4. My unpopular opinion about this character: Miya should not become friends with Kashi again! we have no evidence that Kashi will treat Miya any better than he did before, and honestly the only reason I can draw from what we’ve seen of Kashi for why he’s trying to befriend Miya again is that Miya is successful and impressive and he wants to be associated with that and that is really bad. 5. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Miya and Reki should have had a heart to heart in episode 10, 11 or 12 because it would have given their friendship more narrative purpose and it would have been a good way to further both characters development. Honestly just big missed opportunity there.
I was gonna do langa but i ran out of energy sorry-

Monogatari: Themes of Self-Help
It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to rely on others. But the only one that can save you.. is yourself.
Tumblr media
That is the ultimate statement I feel Nisioisin wanted to make with his hit series, Monogatari. For those of you that have read the novels, or watched the show, you’ll see this theme a lot. From being outright said, to more subtly hinted in the very structure of every arc, this motif of self-healing is the ultimate thesis of our beloved show.
At first, Monogatari may not necessarily come across as a series about mental health issues, but I believe it is. It’s not the first to delve into this territory, but It is one of the more unique ones, in that it actually has a message. Take a series like Tokyo Ghoul. While the manga can be a really interesting take on mental health issues, Monogatari not only deals with the same themes of depression, isolationism and self-preservation, but actually gives advice on the matter.
Tumblr media
Koyomi Araragi has vampiric powers, enough to the point where he could help people physically in ways others can’t. In simple terms, he could save people, much like how a superhero could. However, you’ll notice in the series, this never happens. He can remove someone from physical harm, but that doesn’t ever solve the larger problem. Just like in real life, the emotional strain a person suffers takes far more to heal than any physical wound. Fear, or distress can be a heavier burden than the physical pain that accompanies it. Koyomi  acknowledges this himself, stating multiple times, he can’t save someone, they can only save themselves.
Tumblr media
But what does that mean? It’s easy enough to say something like that, but anyone who’s struggled with mental health issues knows just how difficult that is to come to terms with. Some things aren’t so simply put into words. Thoughts, especially negative ones, can be intensely hard to comprehend or confront. They become even harder to express to others. I feel as if even the author knows this, often choosing to portray a character’s problems as monsters and aberrations, instead of through lengthy dialogue or flashbacks. Take Tsubasa and Her aberrations, the Tiger being her innate anger and the feeling of ‘schadenfreude’, or Cat, who’s the middle ground between the persona/front she displays to others, and the desires of Tiger. But at the same time, this is never directly stated, instead inferred by the audience, as well as through how other characters perceive it. No character really sits down and explains exactly what their issue is in length, many other series often choosing instead to just outright state it, or have completely non-subtle displays of common symptoms of a condition.
Negative thoughts and mental health issues aren’t always as simple as words, they’re ideas. Pictures, images, actions, fleeting thoughts that are often hard to grasp, hard to explain. They can feel like an ocean that you’re drowning in, one that everyone else seems to be able to breathe in, until you realize they’re not in the same ocean as you.
Tumblr media
The author understands that, not even trying to describe a person’s suffering directly, at least not from their perspective. But he also understands that the person who can save you, the person that helps; is yourself. It’s fine to rely on others, it’s fine to ask for help, people can assist you, but ultimately, the person that holds you back is yourself. Taking the example of Tsubasa for example, her resolution comes not from Koyomi defeating her aberration, but from her confronting the fact that it is a part of her, that she needs to look at the bigger picture. She developed as a person, in a way that no medication or physical action could.
Which sounds almost blunt, but then again, Nisioisin isn’t really a stranger to being straight up and a little controversial. Like when Oshino and Araragi discuss whether or not Tsubasa’s abuse is justified or not, when looking from different perspectives. But I think the author finds a perfect balance between relying on external and internal support in this case. Araragi is always there for her as a friend, he frets and stresses over her. He is the stepping stone that helps her to realize she can be herself around him, that she doesn’t have to hide behind a persona. This sets her onto the path of self confrontation, which ultimately resolves in her becoming happier and more resolute.
Tumblr media
This is even more obvious with other characters. Hitagi is a stand out for this. She was a character who was burdened by the past, a character who was always carrying trauma. Her whole arc deals with her denying the bad in her past, which led to her not being able to see the good in her future. Again, Koyomi isn’t the one that saves her, she ultimately has to confront herself, and realize that the past doesn’t make you who you are, and even with the problems that existed then, there was still happy memories both then and to come. Your past doesn’t decide how the future plays out. She has the confrontation with the con-man, but meeting Araragi helps her come to terms with the fact that there are completely normal, good men too. But she comes to that realization on her own, with the assistance of Araragi, and not because of him solely.
Tumblr media
But I think one of the best, more subtle arcs that covers this- is Hanamonogatari. This arc doesn’t even feature our main protag, best boy Araragi, and yet the story is still very similar in ideas it has. The theme of it, is wishes. But more specifically, how wishes aren’t necessarily something that just comes true, instead that even just having a wish will set you down the path towards completing it. I think that’s a very sweet message to send, that even just having a goal, whether it’s unrealistic or not, will set you on the path to achieving it. The idea that if you really genuinely wish for things to change, you will ultimately set them in motion to change through your own power.
That if you want to feel better, to overcome whatever it is you may be struggling with, look inside yourself, because you are far stronger than you think.
Tumblr media
It’s just little things like this that make me love this series, and why it’s probably my favorite. These little ideas and messages that are so prominent in the series, that leave a really profound meaning with you.
But that’s it for now guys. Sorry this is so rough around the edges compared to my other pieces, but thank you for reading nonetheless. I plan to post fairly regularly again, at least once or twice a week, and I hope you all stick around to see that.
Remember to take care of each other, and for anyone who reads this and would like some support themselves, feel free to message me.

Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen
Araragi Koyomi has beaten Dramaturgy, Episode, and Guillotinecutter with relative ease, and secured his master Kiss-Shot’s four extremities. This third movie isn’t about that mission; that’s over now. It’s about everything that comes after, and how we get to Kiss-Shot being at full power to the greatly diminished state in which we were introduced to her in 2009’s Bakemonogatari.
Kiss-Shot promised Koyomi she’d make him a human if he got her arms and legs back, and while Oshino was meant to be Koyomi’s fourth opponent—he in possession of Kiss-Shot’s heart—he is satisfied that the balance has been restored. He not only surrenders the heart, but forgives Koyomi’s 5 million in debt before taking off.
So, will Kiss-Shot keep up her end of the bargain she struck with Koyomi? She’s certainly happy to be in her 26-year-old form; giddy, even. They meet on the roof of the cram school and talk simply like two old chums.
Kiss-Shot tells Koyomi about her first servant, whom she lost to suicide (she tells him more about this during Onimonogatari), and pulls Kokoro-watari, a memento from that time, out of her body.
After watching Kiss-Shot frolick on the roof, Koyomi realizes he’s a bit hungry, so volunteers to pick up some snacks at the local 7-Eleven while Kiss-Shot ‘prepares’ to restore his humanity.
Upon his return, he discovers the nature of that preparation: Kiss-Shot graphically devouring Guillotinecutter, then wondering where Koyomi’s “mobile snack”, i.e. Hanekawa is.
It’s a devastating revelation to Koyomi that yeah, when Kiss-Shot is talking about food she’s talking about humans. She feeds on humans, and he not only saved her life, but restored her to full power. As he rages in the gym equipment room, blaming himself for Guillotinecutter’s death, Hanekawa pays him a visit.
As far as Koyomi’s concerned, he doesn’t deserve to get his humanity back after everything he’s done. He doesn’t even deserve to live, and certainly doesn’t want to live to the point where he sees Tsubasa as food. He’s already disgusted with the fact that the three hunters he defeated were on the side of justice.
Tsubasa, not surprisingly, has his back when he doesn’t have his own. She’s made her selfishness known to Koyomi, and she wants to see him next term, so he can’t die. Besides, throwing away all he’s accomplished thus far would just be running away. Even if he eats her, she’s fine with it, because she wouldn’t call someone a friend unless she’s willing to die for them, no matter the reason.
No, pointing the blame on and killing himself isn’t the right path for Koyomi. Not when he’s the only one who has a chance against a Full Power Kiss-Shot. Knowing he has to go up against her, Koyomi asks, for the first time ever, if he can touch Tsubasa’s boobs, in order to “build up his tolerance” for Kiss-Shot’s own substantial bust.
That attempt goes bust, however, when Tsubasa is more than willing to let him fondle her boobs and even take her maidenhood if he likes, but he chickens out and instead gives her a weak shoulder massage.
Hitagi may end up being Koyomi’s beloved, but there can be no doubt who his best friend is after watching these movies. Because all this takes place before he even meets Hitagi, Tsubasa is free to be the one and only girl, and thus one hell of a best one.
Alright, no more fooling around, it’s time to fight his master Kiss-Shot, who makes one hell of a fiery, explosive entrance in the stadium, the venue of their duel. Kiss-Shot know realizes she was insensitive in being so casual about how she took her meal. With that in mind, she asks him to return to her side, but of course he can’t, because she ate someone.
Koyomi saved her life, and won back her limbs, because she was weak. Once she was no longer weak, and Koyomi saw what she was capable of, he essentially woke up from the spell he had been under. At an impasse, they begin to go at it.
Because they’re both immortal, quick-healing vampires, it’s an absolutely bonkers fight, with heads and limbs flying all over the place, oftentimes sprouting back up before the old parts faded away. But as bloody and brutal as it is, the fight is a stalemate, with neither party able to inflict lasting damage on the other.
Once again unable to stay away when her friend is in need, Tsubasa tells Koyomi something isn’t right, and it’s something everyone but Koyomi would have realize by now: Kiss-Shot wants to be killed; it’s the only way for Koyomi to get his humanity back.
When Kiss-Shot tries to lash out at the interfering Tsubasa, Koyomi (or rather, his head and some neckbones) latch on to Kiss-Shot’s neck, and he starts sucking her blood, a lot of it, until fully half of it is gone, leaving her shriveled and powerless.
But he doesn’t want Kiss-Shot to die.
Instead, he wants everyone to get what they want; everyone to be satisfied. So he calls out to Oshino, whom he knows is watching, and hires him (for five million) to come up with a solution. Unfortunately, no amount of money will change the fact that it’s impossible for everyone to be satisfied.
So instead, Oshino, true to his nature of attaining balance everywhere he can, proposes a way for everyone to be dissatisfied in equal measure. Kiss-Shot can live on as pseudo-vampire mimicking a human, robbed of all her power and dependent on Koyomi to survive.
Koyomi, meanwhile, will become a pseudo-human mimicking a vampire; and both will continue to live, and the risk to humanity will be greatly reduced, but not completely eliminated. Koyomi won’t let Kiss-Shot die, so he takes the deal.
Fast-forward to August and the beginning of a new term for Koyomi and Tsubasa. He still heals quickly for a human, but not nearly as quickly as he was. He also views the world differently now that he can walk in the sun again, something Tsubasa thinks is very positive.
Koyomi pays a visit to Oshino at the cram school to give what’s left of Kiss-Shot some of his blood. On the roof, Oshino characterizes the situation thusly:
What you remember of a vampire eating someone…is like the disillusionment of watching a cute cat devour a live mouse.
And here you are, having chosen to keep your own little vampire like a pet.
You’ve dulled its fangs, pulled out its claws, crushed its throat and neutered it, right?
You, who was once treated as a pet, are getting back at your former master by treating her as one…not a moving tale, is it?
Well, it was, and is, most definitely a moving tale, but I prefer Koyomi’s more poetic way of characterizing it:
We, who hurt each other so terribly, will sit here licking each others wounds. We damaged goods will seek the other out in comfort.
If you are to die tomorrow, I’m fine with my life ending then as well.
But if you want to live for me for one more day, I’ll go on living with you today as well.
And thus begins a tale of kindred bound by their scars.
Soaked in red and written in black, a story of blood.
One of which I’ll never speak.
Our very own, precious as it is, story of scars.
And I have no intention of reciting it to anyone.
It’s not just a beautiful way to end this fantastically epic prequel trilogy, but an artfully powerfully-stated mission statement for all of the stories in the Monogatari Series that follow chronologically. It’s inspired me to re-watch Nekomonogatari (Kuro) and then Bakemonogatari from the beginning, with a new appreciation for where Koyomi has been, and—thanks to the recently completed Owarimonogatari—where he’s going.
Finally, major kudos to Kamiya Hiroshi, Horie Yui, and Sakamoto Maaya; all three elevated these movies that much more with their layered, engaging performances.
