In the second panel, Sukuna says "utte miro" (打ってみろ), which literally translates to "try to strike (me)". So, yeah... Sukuna's mocking him.

Fun fact from the first panel - the verb "komeru" in "Motto noroi o komete" (this is translated just fine) is also being used as "to load a gun". I just think this is neat if you imagine curses as sorcerers' firepower. It's like Sukuna saying "you're short on bullets".

This is a line I can’t really think of a way to transcribe its wordplay into English, but essentially 違う (chigau) can mean both different and wrong. It’s being used as an antonym to 同じ (onaji), but also incorporating that double meaning in here I believe.

I know there is a popular translation going around which I think accidentally misinterprets the 様に (you ni) here to be used with the meaning of “in order to”, however I’m pretty sure the kind of 様に (you ni) here is the sort used to make wishes. Example: 神様の恵みがあります様に。= May the blessing of God be upon you

Literally “peace, as it is to be defined, exhaustion is made into its replacement”. But 消耗 (shoumou) might also refer to 消耗戦 (shoumousen), i.e. attritional warfare. This is a military strategy where a country attempts to beat the enemy by basically wearing them down until they’re flat out of resources and any real way to fight back. My personal take on this lyric is it might be referring to how in the singer’s mind, feeling “peace” has been replaced with feeling “exhaustion”. Yet “nothing has really changed”, since the singer cannot spit out thier feelings and thus bottles this “exhaustion” up despite its existence, as if peace were still present. Also just a side note, but I enjoy the wordplay here with 代わりに成す (kawari ni nasu) and 変わりはなく (kawari wa naku). 

A bit more liberal here. But I’ve only ever seen 京楽 (kyouraku) used in settings meant to evoke religious/fantastical imagery... 京楽の悪魔 (kyouraku no akuma) or a demon of pleasure, etc. 嘘 (uso) means lie but it can also refer to the more ambiguous idea of just something not beign what you thought it was... So I thought “sin” would be the best choice here, given the song’s themes. For similar reasons, I also have translated 救われる (sukuwareru) or to be saved as “salvation”.

Romance - I would be remiss to not talk about this one. Way back in high school, circa 2005, I watched anime on Adult Swim, like all the nerds did back then, which is where I saw Trinity Blood and heard "Dress" for the first time. So little baby me decided to look up this Buck-Tick on YouTube to see if they had other music I'd like, and this was the first song I clicked on. Needless to say, I fell in love.

Of course, this isn't all my favorites. There's simply too many to name!

I've been a fan of Buck-Tick for -checks a calendar- geez, nearly two decades now. They're a group I've come back to over and over, because their music is both exciting and comforting. And Atsushi Sakurai is one of, like, two singers I always aspired to emulate. So thank you, Sakurai-san, for the wondrous music you gave me and so many others. I'll miss you.

When you say shoujo manga, people think of a teenager boy and a teenager girl in front of a sparkly and bubbly background, blushing at each other. They share that page with the caption "Them...", and it makes them happy.

But for me, this is what shoujo manga is. It transitions to the NATO HQ from a ballet dancer, and then to a political map of Europe. You don't get disjointed inner monologue with a single word written in every bubble, but an info dump about NATO that makes you read up on Estonia's accession to NATO at ungodly hours of the night.

This is what makes Eroica great, because nothing else has made me go through such an experience.

Daily Himawari Day 18 (+17)

heyy~ you may've thought I forgot about daily himawari! NOPE! I found a loophole in my own rules!

I made a rule where every time I forget a day, I have to translate a line from a himawari song.. so I missed two days! hehe so two lines for me~

..wait. it's technically not midnight yet, so this is only day 18? I only missed one day? awh....

well, we'll start with day by day because I already know my two favourite himawari songs way too well, we'll start with the first line of the chorus!:

The best translation I could come up with was "day by day and I'm the reason that love is in the air"

..see? I even made it the EXACT NUMBER OF SYLLABLES NEEDED SO, like, you could sing it to the tune of the original!

"komete," or "komeru" means to be loaded, charged with! or so I think

to say "day by day I'm filled with love" just sounds.. weird!!!! it's weird! idk! it makes no sense to me! "love is in the air" is a super english phrase but I used it cuz.. idk... I'm new to this

The city of Antwerp, Belgium may be primarily known for it’s harbour, cathedral and diamond trade, but anyone who scratches beneath the surface can find a thriving and vibrant underground scene. Especially in the last few years the great output of hardcore and garage punk bands makes one suspect that, besides massive PFOS pollution and record breaking cocaine residuelevels, there must be something in the water. Mitraille burst unto this scene in 2018 with a sound that takes the bursting-at-the-seams energy of modern day basement hardcore and injects it into a strain of diseased garage- and post punk. Think Sleaford Mods if they released 7 inches on Total Punk, Ty Segall Band’s Slaughterhouse if it was recorded at 4 AM in a beer-drenched living room or Uranium Club if they were Motörhead roadies with anger management issues. Mitraille have since released three EP’s before recruiting Rafael Valles Hilario (Tuff Guac, Brorlab, MOAR) behind the drums and recording their debut full-length ‘Mitraille’. The album was released May 25th on Ronny Rex and Belly Button Records and followed up by a nine day tour of Germany and Switzerland, and spots on the mainstage of the legendary Sjock Festival and the Street Stage of Rock Herk. As ever, Mitraille are ready to blast their way through as many European stages as possible. So crank that album, get one of those three idiots on the phone and get ready for a wild fucking ride.

THE CAVE RIOT

The Cave Riot, founded in 2016, from the south of Hamburg is a four-piece band that ranges somewhere between indie rock and Britpop. With their driving guitars and danceable beats they get the audience moving. Their influences can be found in 60s Garage Rock bands, 80s Wave bands or newer bands like The Black Keys.The Cave Riot write English lyrics about everyday observations and little stories from life. Through their unique blend of melodic hooks and a rocking energy, they manage to inspire their listeners and provide a good time.The 4 describe themselves as an „uncomplicated band that only writes potential hits“ and are eager to tour the clubs again after the difficult last 3 years.The big goal, according to themselves, is a tour of Belgium and Japan.
