Why I think Yen Press should license the PMMM reprint manga

As some of you probably know, the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica manga (that adapted the original series) was completely redrawn back in 2021 to celebrate the series' tenth anniversary by Hanokage, the artist of the original manga - and the growth shines through!

That said, though... There's something I wonder: If Yen Press (the main English publisher of PMMM manga) will ever pick this up for a English release. I already asked @silvermoon424 - whose scans (which you can find here) I'll be using in this post - about this not too long ago, but I felt like making this very post to try and convey how I feel better.

I know it seems kind of pointless, seeing as they already have the original manga (and even released that omnibus a few years back), but I personally feel like there's actually a few ways it can work, which is why I decided to compile a small list.

Well, then. No more messing about: Let's get started!

It's a rather major Madoka Magica release. Seeing as Yen Press is mostly focused on the main PMMM releases, this wouldn't be too out of the ordinary to pick up.

It would be the perfect thing to coincide with the (basically inevitable at this point) Rebellion manga omnibus.

They'll finally be able to update their old translation - something that I was honestly kind of disappointed about with their omnibus of the original manga.

They'll finally be able to translate scenes that were left out of the original manga. Examples from Chapter 1 include the beginning with Madoka's family:

The reprint, from what I've seen, is a lot closer to the anime. Seeing as the original took a lot of liberties, wouldn't you guys agree it'd make sense for Yen Press to license a much more accurate version, too? It also gives readers the choice to pick which version they'd rather get.

It would be really cool to compare the differences between the two versions, both art-wise and translation-wise.

It would honestly just be really nice to own, all things considered.

The art's just super good, what more can I say?

So... Yea! That's all the reasons I can think of as to why Yen Press should license the PMMM reprint manga.

But hey, this is all just my personal opinion. What do you guys think? Do you think it would be a good idea for Yen Press to pick up the reprint manga sometime, or do you think the original manga is enough? Be sure to let me know in the reblogs or replies!

sigma's not dead guys hear me out (BSD 109 SPOILERS)

when atsushi traded information via sigma's ability, his brain also needed time to figure out it, hence him passing out in anne's room. sigma this time went with the intention of using his ability to learn everything about dostoevsky, which the next pages show to be an INCREDIBLE amount of information.

its likely that fyodor knows of this caveat to sigma's ability and was banking on the fact that even if his ability doesn't work against gifted users, sigma would still be incapacitated for a while due to his ability.

every time that we've seen fyodor kill somone using his ability, there's been blood shown. this wasn't the case in the 109 scene, at least not visibly.

this still doesn't explain why fyodor would allow sigma to read him in the first place, but it could be that it was planned or even a bargain on dostoevsky's part to move things on skk wise and have chuuya take care of dazai without other interruptions

either way hes NOT dead (i hope PLEASEE) and surely next chapter they will be fine. right

i love the idea that Wild is a big brother to basically all of the kids in his Hyrule. it’s such a good heacanon that i never see utilized.

Welcome Home × Soul Eater AU ramble

I had announced it, I shall now share it !

Behold, WH SE AU

Context :

In the world of Soul Eater, there are people who can transform into weapons (called demonic weapons), a genetic trait coming from some witch experimenting on humans centuries before. To avoid having those "weapons" go out of control, Shinigami, a god of death, created a school called Shibusen, where those weapons could learn how to control their powers. There are also people who come to this school to partner with the weapons and wield them, those are called meisters.

In this AU, our colorful cast of Welcome Home characters are students at this school in their last few years of studies (18-23 years old) and decided to create a race to the top before their graduation. The goal ? Get their weapon partner to the "death scythe" level by getting as much evil souls as they can. Who will win ? Who knows 👀

Okay so this AU is actually over a year old, I had old designs and dynamics I wasn't 100% happy with because this AU was co created

Idk how the other creator is doing, I haven't talked to them in a loooong while, so I decided to rebrand the AU a little

Now, I'll explain my choices and lore

For one, I believe in keeping the canon personalities. So, when deciding who's a weapon and who is a meister, I tried to go along how the characters would act and what alligns with their silly selves. The characters that ended up as weapons needed to be weapons, otherwise it doesn't fit their personality to come to Shibusen to become a meister (reminder, meister can choose to go to Shibusen, weapons are kinda obligated to)

For the clothing, I just had fun with the "school uniform" concept as given in the Soul Eater and Soul Eater Not manga series.

And for the pairing, I included a lot of ocs, ik, but I wanted the pairs to truly match in energy and personality, and also I love my and Koko's oc and it's my AU I do what I want !

Joking side, here are some more funfact on how they ended up there

Julie followed in her siblings footsteps

Barnaby came to partner with Wally, the two are childhood best friends

Sally and Howdy came for fame and opportunities that come with being a meister

Nyxie and Suave where raised in Shibusen for lore reasons 👀

Julie and Wally are dating !

Frank and Eddie are a bit more on and off, because Eddie is an anxious mess and Frank doesn't like competion

But at the same time, the shipping in this AU is "yes" because : Julie and Wally are a thing, but Julie is very close to Frank, who is on and off with Eddie, and Eddie is quite close to Howdy, and Sally likes to flirt with Eddie and Poppy, but Lucero has a crush on Sally, who might have a lil crush on Julie, but Nyxie has a crush on Lucero, and Barnaby and Wally are reaaallly close

Good luck, may the ships all sail at once like it's the Vendée Globe :D

Other funfacts

Nyxie and Suave are actually weapons too, Nyxie is a frying pan (because what else would she be) and Suave is undetermined. Both are very unstable and thus can't really be weapons full time, hence why they meister others

Everyone has part time jobs !

Nyxie and Suave work at a bar, Eddie works at the post office, Sally works at a theater, Lucero works with Caly at a music shop, Frank works at a library, Julie in a hairdresser salon, Poppy and Howdy work at a little retail shop, Wally and Barnaby work in a clothing store.

They all live in the same appartement complex, all neighbors and they visit eachother all the time ! Each pair live together too, platonically.

I think that's about all I can say

This AU is a lil special to me because I love Soul Eater and the lore and ik there is probably already some other SE Wh aus but I wanted to get this out anyway and see if people enjoy my silly rambling

I posted it on tiktok already and people ate this up lol, I'm kinda hoping they would too here as well ? We'll see.

Another AU? I need to stop.

Modern Medieval Monster Mash Up

Okay, this has been stuck in my head for two weeks and I can’t get it out so if I write it down then maybe my brain won’t be obsessing over it when I’m trying to sleep!

General idea is basically FNAF x Undertale x Nimona x DND.

*cue dramatic lighting and curtains*

Cut to an opening scene where monsters and humans lived in the same land but segregated away from each other by preference. Monsters decide after being mistreated at every interaction that they are superior beings and begin enslaving humanity. Enter in the brave knights who rescue the enslaved and fight back to protect all humans. After years of war the humans create an powerful spell that casts all the monsters into a deep pit, not allowing any to escape the barrier around the top.

Fast forward a few centuries and the magic sealing the monsters in the pit is weak and when discovered by said monsters, they travel to the surface to wreak havoc, steal supplies/tech, and capture humans to bring them down to the pit as slaves. Although it is only a few groups of extremist/vengeful monsters that terrorize the humans, most have become accustomed to their life and don’t desire revenge for being locked away (monsters live twice as long as humans). The humans however, have been taught the gruesome history of the war and have done everything to have the upper hand should another war ensue. There is no such thing as good monsters.

And now you enter the story. A young knight who has fought many battles with monsters and often assist in supply deliveries between cities.

One night, an ambush happens on your route and you do everything you can to stop them from stealing the cargo but you are bitten by something venomous and decide to fight with all you have left while the others escape, knowing you are dead anyway. You defeat the monsters and sit peacefully as you bleed from wounds and take in what you believe to be your final breaths but as the world fades, a figure approaches.

Startled awake, you find yourself in modern but vintage style home, dressed in different clothing, and no signs of any wounds. After a confrontational discussion, you learn that a vampire decided to “save” you and make you his servant/pet, turning you into a vampire to do so. However, you won’t become a full vampire without drinking human blood first.

The vampire is Moon and he lives there with his demon brother Sun, (their parents were pure bloods, a demon x vampire hybrid). Moon is more vampire than demon, and Sun is more demon than vampire.

You struggle with your new life because you are trying to learn to cope with the fact that you are no longer human, that everything you were taught about monsters was wrong, and that you might actually be falling in love with your captors. Moon often tries to get you to drink human blood but you refuse and Sun is always there to protect you when Moon gets “impatient “, you feed on their blood to survive but it only lasts for so long.

Don't mind me just thinking about how Inui keeps his hair short when he's with Koko (notably in the future timeline) but lets it grow when they part ways (notably in the future timeline)

But it didn't stay like that. He cut it again. Inui loves having long hair and wearing heels but he doesn't do it near Kok #cuz HES NOT AKANE. The 2 only times we see him wearing heels around Koko is 1. Leaving Juvie (can't say if he expected Koko to be there)#2. And then Inui meets Shin and joins BD and starts to wear heels cuz he likes it and then #Koko kissed him BUT HES NOT AKANE. And Inui can do it. What If... Dick Figures was an anime?

This has been on my mind for a while.

Simply put, I've been somewhat imagining what a Dick Figures anime would be like - and no, I'm not talking about something like that little parody bit from the movie. I'm talking a full-blown, completely unironic anime series that remains true to the spirit of the original series.

That said, though... Come join me as we explore my big, impossible dreams for a Dick Figures anime!

ANIMATION STUDIO: SHAFT (Monogatari, Madoka Magica, Zetsubou-Sensei, ect.)

Whenever I think of a studio that would almost perfectly nail the style of Dick Figures, I think of SHAFT. They're known for the weird stuff: Colour palette switches, their signature head tilt, random art-style changes, and (most important for this series) use of real imagery. Seeing as the original Dick Figures series already uses real imagery at times (the Raccoon/Papa-san, Kitty Amazing, the turtle-dragon from "Traffic Jams", the genie from "Butt Genie" and the map from the Movie amongst many others) and is pretty absurd itself, SHAFT would pretty much be perfect for it.

CHARACTER DESIGNER: Koichi Kikuta (KonoSuba)

This part wasn't easy to figure out, as I needed one that would emulate the vibe of the original stick figure style without taking too much away from it. At the end of it, though, my choice ended up boiling down to this dude. His work from what I've seen is cartoony and fluent, which I think would fit just about perfectly for a series like Dick Figures - especially since the characters are... Well... Stickpeople (duh).

VOICE CAST:

Red: Yuusuke Kobayashi (Subaru Natsuki in Re:Zero) or Yuuki Ono (Josuke Higashikita in JoJo) Blue: Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo in JoJo, Yukito Kunisaki in AIR, The Junker in Planetarian, Mamoru Akasaka in Higurashi, ect.) or Tomokazu Sugita (Yuuichi Aizawa in Kanon) Lord Tourettes: Yui Horie (Hanyuu in Higurashi, Ayu Tsukimiya in Kanon, Tsubasa Hanekawa in Monogatari, ect.) Pink: Chiwa Saitou (Hitagi Senjougahara in Monogatari, Homura Akemi in Madoka Magica, Kotori Kanbe in Rewrite, ect.) EPISODE LAYOUT

This was a bit difficult to figure out, due to the nature of the original Dick Figures series. Having every episode be the full 24 minutes would probably be too dragged out, but five scenarios per episode would make things too crammed.

However, I can picture one way this can work: If there's two segments in each episode. There's 50 episodes in total (aside from Figured Out, which we'll get to in a bit), so if we put 2 into each episode, we'd get 25 episodes of this anime version in total, which I feel like is a fair number.

As for the movie, that can be released after the final episode. As well as that, I also imagine that it'd be cool if they also adapted Figured Out into an OVA series alongside the movie meant to serve as the true series finale.

In fact... Having Figured Out as an OVA would actually work better due to potential pacing issues if it was put at the very end of the movie - and since it's only one story they'd need to adapt, they can go all out and spend as much episodes as they need fleshing out the episode from it's original montage format, so maybe we'll be able to learn more about the characters' futures.

Now for the big question: Would it be an adaptation of the original series, or a new story?

Well, I guess it can go both ways. If they want to re-imagine the series for a new audience, then I guess they can go ahead and adapt the original series. In fact, an adaptation that still changes things up would actually benefit the series most, since the original really hasn't aged the best (offensive jokes, Trollz0r literally just being the 2010s version of r/FellowKids, ect.).

That said, however, it would probably benefit SHAFT (or whatever other studio takes it) morer if they went with a new story that remained true to the original series - as long as they don't mess it up, of course (Lookin' at you, Magia Record anime - Don't think I've forgotten how dirty you guys did my girl Kuroe).

So, when deciding who's a weapon and who is a meister, I tried to go along how the characters would act and what alligns with their silly selves. The characters that ended up as weapons needed to be weapons, otherwise it doesn't fit their personality to come to Shibusen to become a meister (reminder, meister can choose to go to Shibusen, weapons are kinda obligated to)

For the clothing, I just had fun with the "school uniform" concept as given in the Soul Eater and Soul Eater Not manga series.

And for the pairing, I included a lot of ocs, ik, but I wanted the pairs to truly match in energy and personality, and also I love my and Koko's oc and it's my AU I do what I want !

Joking side, here are some more funfact on how they ended up there

Julie followed in her siblings footsteps

Barnaby came to partner with Wally, the two are childhood best friends

Sally and Howdy came for fame and opportunities that come with being a meister

Nyxie and Suave where raised in Shibusen for lore reasons 👀

Julie and Wally are dating !

Frank and Eddie are a bit more on and off, because Eddie is an anxious mess and Frank doesn't like competion

But at the same time, the shipping in this AU is "yes" because : Julie and Wally are a thing, but Julie is very close to Frank, who is on and off with Eddie, and Eddie is quite close to Howdy, and Sally likes to flirt with Eddie and Poppy, but Lucero has a crush on Sally, who might have a lil crush on Julie, but Nyxie has a crush on Lucero, and Barnaby and Wally are reaaallly close

Other funfacts

Nyxie and Suave are actually weapons too, Nyxie is a frying pan (because what else would she be) and Suave is undetermined. Both are very unstable and thus can't really be weapons full time, hence why they meister others

Everyone has part time jobs !

Nyxie and Suave work at a bar, Eddie works at the post office, Sally works at a theater, Lucero works with Caly at a music shop, Frank works at a library, Julie in a hairdresser salon, Poppy and Howdy work at a little retail shop, Wally and Barnaby work in a clothing store.

They all live in the same appartement complex, all neighbors and they visit eachother all the time ! Each pair live together too, platonically.

This AU is a lil special to me because I love Soul Eater and the lore and ik there is probably already some other SE Wh aus but I wanted to get this out anyway and see if people enjoy my silly rambling

I posted it on tiktok already and people ate this up lol, I'm kinda hoping they would too here as well ? We'll see.
