Hello !
I’m a new Langblr/Studyblr.
About me :
My name is Kieran.
I’m 20.
I’m French.
I’m currently finishing my third year in Nordic Studies, in those three years I learned about history, culture, politics of Nordic countries in Europe, aka Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Island mainly, though we also learned about other countries.
My major during this time was Swedish and my minor was Korean.
In a few months, I’ll be moving on to a new field of study. I will study law, in order to become a prosecutor.
Langblr :
I am currently learning those languages and wish to get better:
Chinese
Korean
Swedish
Irish
Romanian
I will post about French and will try my best to make vocabulary lists and maybe add a few posts about grammar.
Studyblr :
I’d like to find blogs that can help me with:
learning or give tips and advice about law
ways to study better
history
My interests :
I like languages, history and cultures (hm..obviously).
I love mythology, any type really.
I like video games, books and Kpop.
I like sports, especially soccer, handball and basketball.
(Can you tell I’m new on Tumblr and don’t know much about it? ^^ )

Under the cut because pictures + descriptions = long post.

Gab’s Eastern Animation Questions
Kieran: Lil Gab I know you love your Eastern Animations; how exactly did you get into this specific genre in the first place?
Angel Gabriel: My love for film was the main catalyst as to how I stumbled upon Animation. I had always stayed up late watching Leone, Coppola, Scorsese films from a younger age than I should’ve and one day stumbled upon a film called the girl who leapt through time that was on film 4 late at night, from that point on I couldn’t stop stumbling upon other eastern animations.
Kieran: What are some of your favourites?
Angel Gabriel: To add to the first question, I was also heavily interested in eastern film, with almost all the films of Akira Kurosawa, Chinese films like in the mood for love and Chungking express, as well as the Korean Memories of murder kept me within the eastern environment while my focus on their animation was stabilising. Some of my favourites include Satoshi Kons Perfect Blue, Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, and takahatas Grave of the fireflies as films but among eastern series: Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Slam Dunk to name a few...
Kieran: Are most of these Studio Ghibli Productions?
Angel Gabriel: Studio Ghibli films are definitely a gateway into eastern animation for me (as I’m sure they are with many in the west, especially from Miyazaki’s reach on viewers and directors) and will forever be its own comfortable world engulfing films. Not that they are the focus for me but they’re definitely not uninvolved. I believe to me Ghibli films from the main 3 directors will forever hold a part of the foundation of eastern animation, for myself and all viewers.
Kieran: Are most Eastern Animations you like specifically Japanese Productions?
Angel Gabriel: In terms of eastern animation then without a doubt Japanese animation.
Kieran: Why has Japan almost become the “hub” of Eastern Animation or am I wrong?
Angel Gabriel: Japan is definitely the centre; I’m assuming from the background of manga that really is the birthplace of anime itself.
Kieran: Other than its visual style, what is the main difference would you say between Western and Eastern Animations?
Angel Gabriel: I believe the main difference between eastern and western animation is the fact that at least from an early age only (western is now learning from the east), eastern animation understood how to pause, how to take a breath in film (moments of real emotional or inward thinking physically shown). An example in Spirited Away when Chihiro is on her train journey, or even when she taps her toe when putting on her shoes. These are moments that are real, a pause- they don’t hinder the narrative with unnecessary scenes but rather add to the fragility of the character.
Kieran: Why do you prefer Eastern Animations?
Angel Gabriel: I prefer Eastern Animation (pretty much Japanese animation) literally because of these pauses, or these additions to character building. The flat (ukiyo E) look seen throughout these animations (influenced from they’re woodblock prints) has such a distinct, powerful yet calming appearance as well.
Kieran: Over the last 20 years, I can see how Eastern Animation has highly influenced Western Animation, with the Boondocks being one that comes to mind, how do you feel about this?
Angel Gabriel: I feel greatly that you westerners are finally learning from the East, definitely seen in work such as Boondocks, Steven Universe, Adventure time, avatar etc....
Kieran: Do you think it’s affected the quality of either productions?
Angel Gabriel: It’s definitely affected the production as the popularity is generating so much more revenue than it did, mainly why there’s been an addition of CGI to the hand drawn effect, which in some case I guess could be seen as a negative.
Kieran: Finally, cause I’m a dick, what do you think of Scarlett Johnson’s Ghost In a Shell film? (Laughterrrr)
Angel Gabriel: You know I won’t watch that shit, don’t remake a classic. Just as they unfortunately remade death note and the soon to be remake of Cowboy bebop. Don’t remake a classic unless your Scorsese with the Departed... even know it’s not as good as infernal affairs u dig.
My Thoughts –
When looking back over the interview, it’s funny how staying up late and watching films on Film4 was exactly the same way I become enamoured with the genre. Yet rather than just the Scorsese’s or the Coppola’s resulting in Gab discovering the golden ages of cinema, it also led him to the world of Eastern films. I also found it particularly interesting why Gabriel loves Eastern Animation and how its films don’t generally try to rush their narratives.
The informal questions I was able to come up with was because I’ve known Gab for years. We always talk films so when looking back, I should have probably done more in depth background research on specific directors or animators and the techniques they use to make their masterpieces. At times it felt more like a conversation rather than an interview, which I still don’t know is a good or bad thing.

「 ° ◇ — ❛ HEADCANONS. ❜ 」
( 001 ) school was extremely difficult for kihyun — while he was an intelligent kid, his severe adhd made it impossible for him to stay focused for prolonged periods of time, and it required multiple private tutors to keep him afloat. in class, he was either goofing off or drawing insensitive comics about his classmates, and most of his teachers hated him for disrupting the otherwise peaceful learning environment. kihyun switched elementary and middle schools a combined total of five times, and got expelled from one of auckland’s best private schools as a teenager after selling a fellow student his adderall prescription. his parents paid the administration enough money for the school to readmit him, but it was sufficient to say that kihyun was a problem child.
( 002 ) his first crush & gay awakening, albeit animated, was sasuke uchiha from naruto. he was obsessed with the series as a kid and preteen, and it’s what initially propelled him to draw throughout his adolescence. even though he hasn’t drawn anything recently or watched the show in years, he still regards it fondly and would defend sasuke until his dying breath.
( 003 ) he has an older brother! however, they’ve never gotten along, as he’s essentially the polar opposite of kihyun — level-headed, studious, stoic, and pretty much bred to take over the ahn’s multi-million dollar corporation. he had no patience for kihyun’s antics as children, and has no patience for them as adults, going so far as to continuously encourage their parents to intervene on his younger brother’s reckless lifestyle. they, of course, don’t listen, and kihyun thinks he’s a massive dick.

Football news: Six things we learned from Tottenham’s five-goal ICC thriller with Juventus
Tottenham got their title defense for the International Champions Cup after a flyer after Harry Kane scored an injury time winner from the center line in a five target thriller with Juventus.
Spurs took the lead by Erik Lamela for Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo put the Italian champions back in front. Tanguy Ndombele then set up Lucas Moura to score the tying run, seconds after he debuted for his debut, before Kane produced some magic with seconds on the clock to win.
But both teams had reasons to be resurrected as Sportsmail's MIKE KEEGAN looks at the things we learned from the Shanghai clash

The hero Tottenham delivered the moment nobody among the 50,000-strong crowd in the National Stadium of Singapore will ever forget.
Deep in injury time, Lucas Moura won the ball halfway through and without looking up, Harry Kane scored a precise beauty that glided over former Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny and fell into the goal behind him.
They don't often see their Premier League heroes in these parts and will cherish the moment. Brilliant.
The fact that it was against the former artilleryman, who was repeatedly booed, made it even sweeter.

Introducing Tanguy Ndombele
Spurs fans had to wait n to the 63rd minute to see their record sign. They did not have to wait long to see what international France can do.
With his side trailing 2-1, the former Lyon man intelligently raised Moura for the equalizer to make it 2-2. With his second touch, after he was set up by Harry Kane, Ndombele checked before he curled a beautiful shot wide from the edge of the area.
Some start for the 22-year-old who immediately gave up his new employer a few minutes after taking office.

Sonny> Eriksen
Although he can come from a country nearly 2500 km away, the reception for Son Heung-min was serious of the charts, as hard as that given to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The noise when the South Korean electric was on the ball was deafening. The gold medal winner of the Asian Games has a huge following throughout the continent and his tricky run that resulted in a tap in for Erik Lamela sent nearly 50,000 people into the wilderness.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen – connected with a move away from the club – remained on the bench for the full 90, although he did some stretching exercises minutes before the end, after following a small procedure over the summer.

Buffon the Resurrection and I am The Light
Gianluigi Buffon, 41, was back among the sticks for Juve, after a year in Paris.
The former Italian man described his return as & # 39 ; one of the most beautiful and happiest days of my life & # 39 ;.
He saved nicely from Troy Parrott but could only watch from the turf while Lamela stole a garden to rebound to pouring home.
At the age of 19, £ 67.8 million Matthijs de Ligt sits at the other end of the football spectrum.
The Dutch teenage center came back from the bench, but moments later his team saw an equalizer coming to make it 2-2.

The teenager, branded as the next Robbie Keane, was impressive in the open training session of Spurs and he was there again against the Serie A giants.
Parrott, a pointed striker, is only 17, but – and whisper it softly – Spurs may have dug up another native hero at the front.
Early on, he was keen to create two opportunities for Son and played a key role in the opener before beating Joao Cancelo to earn a yellow card before the break.

Will Kyle enter the first team?
It is now time for 22-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters to seize the day. With Kieran Trippier, Pochettino wants to promote from the inside and promote the London's boy got a start with this.
He made a seriously impressive stint, and although it was perhaps only friendly, his last ditch was on Ronaldo, just as he looked to pull the trigger in the first half a great piece of work.
Although he was somewhat guilty of Ronaldo's deflected goal that Juve put in front, this was a decent evening.

'He's such a dreamer:' Skepticism dogs U.S. envoy's North Korean peace efforts
WASHINGTON/SEOUL (Reuters) – Saddled with the toughest job in American diplomacy, the chief U.S. negotiator with North Korea stands between a U.S. president who insists he doesn’t want to talk and an enemy who shows no interest in listening.
FILE PHOTO: U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun (R) answers questions from reporters following meeting with Japan and South Korea chief nuclear negotiators to talk about North Korean issues at the Iikura guest house in Tokyo, Japan April 25, 2017. REUTERS/Toru Yamanaka/Pool/File Photo
While veteran State Department Asia hand Joseph Yun might be Washington’s best diplomatic hope for reducing the risk of a devastating war on the Korean peninsula, he serves an administration riven by divisions over how to handle Pyongyang.
On the other side, North Korea’s young leader, Kim Jong Un, shows little interest in negotiating either, at least not until he has developed a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.
Despite the daunting obstacles, South Korean-born Yun has told colleagues and others he hopes his diplomatic efforts can lower the temperature in a dangerous nuclear stand-off, according to Reuters interviews with more than a dozen current and former U.S. officials and South Korean diplomats.
Most were deeply skeptical about his chances.
“He’s such a dreamer,” a White House official said, with a note of sarcasm.
“We don’t think this is going anywhere,” said another U.S. official, although he suggested it was still worthwhile to keep engaging at some level with the North Koreans as long as Yun does not appear to be undermining President Donald Trump’s public rejection of direct negotiations.
Trump has told aides that his military threats will drive North Korea to capitulate and rein in its nuclear and missile programs, four White House officials said, a view not shared among most U.S. intelligence agencies.
Yun, however, is quietly pursuing direct diplomacy with North Korean officials at the United Nations and has a mandate to discuss issues beyond the release of U.S. citizens, a senior State Department official told Reuters this week. In June, he secured the release of U.S. student Otto Warmbier, who returned to the United States in a coma and died days later.
‘RUNNING OUT OF TIME’
Trump headed to Asia on Friday as a senior aide warned the world is “running out of time” on the North Korea crisis. Behind the scenes, Yun is trying to keep open a fragile line of communication that could be used to prevent any miscalculation by one side or the other from spiraling into military conflict.
Further aggravating tensions, two U.S. strategic bombers conducted drills over South Korea on Thursday. That followed word from South Korea’s spy agency that North Korea may be preparing another missile launch.
U.S. officials have said privately that intercepting a test missile is among options under consideration, though there is disagreement within the administration about the risks.
In the midst of this is Yun, a soft-spoken, 32-year foreign service veteran who took on the job a year ago, near the end of the Obama administration.
He is grappling with Trump’s strident rhetoric as well as disagreement among the president’s top aides over whether saber-rattling will force Kim to capitulate and what the threshold for any military actions should be, according to several U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Concern about Yun’s difficulties has surfaced in Seoul, where he visits regularly and where Trump will travel next week on the second stop of his Asian tour.
Several South Korean officials expressed worry that Yun’s diplomatic efforts with North Korea lack any real underpinning of support from the White House.
“Things are clearly not easy for him,” one South Korean diplomat said. “Yun is precisely that person (to talk to North Korea), but Trump is killing the whole process.”
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters on Sept. 30 the United States was probing for a diplomatic opening, only to be slapped down by Trump, who told him via Twitter this was a waste of time.
FILE PHOTO: U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun answers questions from reporters following meeting with Japan and South Korea chief nuclear negotiators to talk about North Korean issues at the Iikuraguest house in Tokyo, Japan April 25, 2017. REUTERS/Toru Yamanaka/Pool/File Photo
At the same time, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who regularly briefs Trump on intelligence matters and is considered one of the most hawkish voices on North Korea in the president’s inner circle, has apparently gained stature.
Several officials familiar with those discussions say Pompeo is feeding Trump assessments that U.S. military threats will force Kim to bow to U.S. demands for nuclear disarmament, a position that some U.S. intelligence officers privately contest.
    The CIA declined comment.
NORTH KOREAN NEGOTIATOR ‘SHOCKED’
A U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Yun has become diplomatically “untethered,” not fully connected to a core U.S. approach that is emphasizing economic sanctions and the threat of military action rather than diplomacy.
The one tangible achievement of Yun’s diplomatic efforts in the past year was winning the release of 22-year-old Warmbier in secret talks with North Korean officials in Oslo and New York. Yun flew to Pyongyang in June to medically evacuate Warmbier.
When Choe Son Hui, head of the North Korean foreign ministry’s North America bureau, met Yun in Oslo, she was unaware of how serious Warmbier’s condition was, a source in Washington knowledgeable about the matter said.
FILE PHOTO: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un speaks during the Second Plenum of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, in this undated photo released by North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang October 8, 2017. KCNA/via REUTERS.
But once she learned about it she was “shocked” and Yun was summoned urgently to meet a North Korean diplomat in New York, which quickly led to Warmbier’s return home, the source said.
Warmbier’s death complicated Yun’s efforts as it contributed to a chilling of U.S.-North Korean contacts around that time, the State Department official said.
STUMBLING IN THE DARK
Despite Trump’s threats of military action against Pyongyang, the State Department official said Yun’s view was “the less you engage diplomatically, the more likely you are in the dark.”
Even so, Trump’s rhetoric has raised questions among allies, and possibly even in North Korea, about how serious, if at all, his administration is about diplomacy and how much of a mandate Yun may have to pursue it.
Trump “personalized” the conflict – deriding Kim as “Little Rocket Man” –  against the advice of his national security and intelligence experts, some of whom warned it could be counterproductive, a senior national security official said.
Another official pointed out, however, that Trump, who in May said he would be honored to meet Kim, had not hurled any fresh insults at Kim in recent days, raising hopes for an altered approach.
A South Korean official in Seoul said it was necessary for Washington to have someone in contact with North Korea to help spur future negotiations if they are ever to take hold.
But Trump’s national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, told Japan’s NHK television this week: “What we cannot afford to do is enter into these long, drawn-out negotiations that allow North Korea to use these negotiations as cover for continuing their nuclear and missile programs.”
Former U.S. negotiators sympathize with Yun, whose authority to negotiate has been undercut by the tug-of-war between a White House breathing fire and a State Department pushing a peaceful solution.
“Nobody doubted my authority,” said Wendy Sherman, one of the lead U.S. negotiators who achieved the 2015 deal under which
Iran agreed to restrain its nuclear program in return for relief from economic sanctions. “All of this undermines our ability to do the job.”
Robert Gallucci, who was chief U.S. negotiator during the North Korean nuclear crisis of 1994 and has had recent contact with Yun, said the envoy is “realistic about the challenges of negotiating in the current atmosphere, including the tone set by the president, but he believes in the mission even as his approach is guided by realism.”

Conversation
today in Korean class
Our lesson contained the sentence "일요일에는 친구 집에 놀러 갈거예요" which translate to "I will go to my friend's house on Sunday." We were particularly focused on the word "놀러" which means "play"
Me: It sounds weird if you translate it directly. Adults wouldn't say that.
Teacher: You wouldn't say play?
Classmate: No, that's more used for children. Adults would say 'hang out' or 'get together'
Teacher: So adults never ask someone to play?
Classmate 2: Well if an adult did say it would mean something...inappropriate
Teacher: *pause* *understands* Oh.

apologies for my voice I’ve been a bit sick today. Also if anyone who actually speaks Korean sees this please let me know how my pronunciation is. What I hopefully said: tomorrow I’m going to meet my new friend Joon at the coffee shop. We are going to practice Korean and English. Then tomorrow afternoon I’m going to a dance class. I like Saturdays. Now I’m at home so I’m watching a drama. Good night.
