Once again the calendar has reached the lovely day of April 4 (three weeks ago)! That means it is (was) the birthday of my favorite Precure, Yukishiro Honoka! 20 years after her series she would be about 34 years old today, if she were real.
It's no great secret that the formula for the original series was taking two girls from opposite walks of life and teaming them up, to represent the strength of friendship. Honoka's charm was her intelligence and pursuit of science, while remaining kind and fairly humble despite her wealthy background. Without Nagisa's influence she probably wouldn't be taking many risks, and without Honoka's influence, Nagisa would probably be dead. Well, neither of them would be Precure so probably not, but both would definitely be worse off.
I haven't actually watched Otona Precure yet, but it is my understanding that Black and White appear at the very end of the last episode, looking the same as ever. I'm not clear if they have any dialog. The Kamikta Twins (the most consistently quality part of this fandom) released a piece of artwork that included aged up designs for Nagisa and Honoka. I have to assume they're official and Toei-sanctioned.
Last year, I said I hoped for an Otona-style sequel to FWPC. The middling to negative reception of the series has me second guessing that. But the art is nice.
As always, enjoy the gallery and congratulations to Honoka, and of course thanks to everyone involved in creating and bringing her to life: Character designer Iganami Akira, series director Nishio Daisuke, series composition/head writer Kawasaki Ryo, voice actress Yukana, and more.

Summary:
In the distant past, the Guardian of the Milky Way galaxy named Lanancuras began to harbor a desire for more power. Because of his connection to the galaxy, he was able to absorb parts of planets and add them to his strength. As a result, he began invading the worlds he was assigned to protect. In the wake of his destruction, a following of creatures from across the galaxy pledged allegiance to Lanancuras and became known as the Kadrians. Taking notice of his ever-growing power and followers, the other Celestial Guardians confronted him; however, he had become too powerful, and they were defeated. Unable to subdue Lanancuras, the Celestial Guardians each gave up a part of their power and combined it into a single new Guardian, Mushra. In a final desperate attempt, they used Mushra's core by transforming it into a powerful card with which to seal Lanancuras in a prison. The prison was created from the remains of planets that had suffered under Lanancuras' tyranny. Because planets are themselves large beings, their combined strength (along with the power of the card) was able to restrain him. Thus Lanancuras was successfully sealed in a large meteorite.
The meteorite was sent off into the galaxy to be sealed forever. Meanwhile, the way Lanancuras had increased his strength had consequences on the planets of the Milky Way On Earth, around the 22nd century, it was in the shape of a virus that merged with human DNA and destroyed the humans that way. In order to eliminate the virus, scientists worked on combining human DNA with the DNA of animals and other creatures immune to the effects. They succeeded and created a sentient race known as Enterrans (a race of engineered Earthlings) which are based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, wild beasts, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found and the human race survived.
However, due to Lanancuras' influence, the Enterrans fought their human creators as well as the robots that worked with the humans, driving the human race to a near extinction state. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro placed his 4-year-old daughter Yakumo in a sleep chamber in hopes that she would save the human race and find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth which was then renamed to Enterra. When the meteor that Lanancuras was imprisoned in struck Earth during the earlier parts of the Human-Enterran War, its fragment had struck an infant Yakumo giving her abilities that she would later discover.

Belladonna of sadness (Eiichi Yamamoto - Mushi Production, 1973)
Take the train X (Rintaro – Madhouse,1987)
Crusher Joe: The OVAs y Crusher Joe: The movie (Toshifumi Takizawa - Studio Nue, 1989 / Yoshizaku Yasuhiko - Studio Nue, 1983)
Record of Lodoss War ( Hirotsugu Kawasaki/Akinori Nagaoka - Madhouse, 1990)
Utena la chica revolucionaria: Apocalipsis adolescente (Be Papas - J.C. Staff, 1999)
Ghost in the shell 2: Innocence (Mamoru Oshii – Production I.G. 2004)

Hey so about the Shizutan Tragic Biker AU and the one sided Yukieiko:
⬆️ This is one of the cases Yukina is working with Keiko.
Is it really ethically sourced? Informants whisper no. 👎
The Bayside Butcher from 20 years previous is at it again; but who could have known there was a demon connection to the serial murders from 20 years ago?
And what does Mr. Kuwabara know about this case?
In case it was lost in the the previous posts: Post-canon has entailed Shizuru, Kazuma, Hiei, and Touya training Yukina in combat.
She's also taken some training in stealth and enforcement from Mr. Kuwabara, Kurama, Botan, and Koenma.
She's working alongside Botan on less dangerous cases that are centered in Ningenkai involving lower level demons (for now - she's Hiei's twin don't tell me she couldn't be just as strong if she wanted to be). Keiko and Shizuru will team up with Yukina on occasion. The frequency that Keiko teams up has been steadily increasing since she finished college and started working with her parents.
She and Keiko often use their soft and innocent looks to their advantage to catch marks off guard before delivering an assbeating they won't forget.
Her bike is a black Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11 that Shizuru helped her to customize. It's got decals in mint, purple, and white decals. Very 90s.
I will make a separate post about motorcycles and I am changing my mind slightly I think. Anyway
I have an idea of how to rope the Shounan Bakusouzoku crew into this via the cold case and ties to Mr. Kuwabara. Namely that it's one of Mr. Momoyama's cold cases and that Mr. Kuwabara, Yoshishige, and Mako were all involved in.
But also in present day Kakuji has been snatched and the boys are following leads to find him with Yoshishige and Mako's help which of course leads them to Mr. Kuwabara, Koenma, and extended Team Urameshi.
Yusuke, Yousuke, Kazuma, Akira, and the rest of the Shounan Bakusouzoku boys are getting along famously almost instantly.
I want to edit this more or add more but I'm posting it now lol.

Bee*R Lancer GSR Evolution article.
Tetsuya Kawasaki's
Popular series No. 34
Let's go with Pachigiri!!
Photo Akira Hosaka
Bee⭑R
Lancer GSR Evolution
290 horsepower specification
Defeat the Skyline GT-R, and the Lancer Evo announced by Mitsubishi aiming to conquer the WRC. Bee-Racing, which is familiar in this magazine, has already made a 290-horsepower specification by working on the suspension and CP. Now, can BeeR Lancer Evo's ability surpass R!?
Great possibility of GT-R killer!!
Bee☆R has already light-tuned the Lancer GSR Evolution, a 4WD machine boasting high power in a lightweight body and an amazing power-to-weight ratio.
The engine is normal, but each part is balanced, the turbine is processed and installed for VR-4 even though it is the same type of TD05 and the muffler is also processed and installed for VR-4.
The fuel tuning was set with the original ROM tune, which I am good at, and I marked 12.5 seconds in the 0-400m that I attacked the other day. When I took a quick look during the test drive, I noticed that there were about 4 ROMs on the side seats, so they were doing a replacement test.
When I measured Zeroyon, the boost was 1.0kg/cm, so if I boosted it a little more, it would be easy to break into the 11-second range, and the GT-R might even be on the line. However, since this car was made for rallying, the crossed gear ratios made it so busy that even a zeroyon would go into 5th gear!
Considering this shift, winding etc.
may be more advantageous.
The suspension is a Bee☆R original suspension kit with image brake pads, which is nice. The vehicle height is kept low, and cornering is good. I heard that the Lancer has a lot of understeer due to the 4WD, but it was barely noticeable. Ride comfort is not rugged and roll is suppressed.
As the car is light, the footwork is good, so it is more fun to ride than the GTR.
Changed the mission & differential that was shaken to the medium and low speed side
Well, if you raise the power a little more, it's true
I think it will be an interesting car. Car charm is value
The most fun is when you get on, not on the steps!!
I will be driving Bee☆R's Zeroyon again this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of tuned times. Also, I'll do my best to go this far, so thank you!!!!

Shop profile
have to have fun
It's not a tune, I'll do my best
Bee☆R, which has become a familiar name in HA, has completely changed its model after moving to Yokohama. The factory is spacious and well-organized, making tuning and maintenance possible at any time.
The computer's original ROM setting has been well-received for a long time, but the range of compatible models has been expanded, and now it covers many machines such as Toyota, Mazda, and Mitsubishi in addition to Nissan vehicles.
As for the undercarriage, they have a lot of know-how and will surely give you a satisfactory setting. President Imai himself is a racer who participated in the freshman race at Fuji Speedway, so I can trust his data.
Bee☆R's motto is to make fun cars and enjoy driving them!! That's why we never look at cars that don't interest us or customers who don't get along!! Secondly, I want to say that I will take care of every car I work on.
Rather than doing anything as long as you have the money, you can say that he has the spirit of a craftsman who thoroughly does what he likes.
It sounds like a grumpy store when you write it like this, but when you actually go there, all the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is really bright!!!! If you explain it properly, I'm sure it will live up to your expectations!!!
Let's go with Tetsuya Kawasaki!!

Fun fact about DR2, the person who co wrote it with Kodaka was Akira Kawasaki, the same person who wrote Persona 4 Golden. It’s why DR2 was much better written than most other installments.
Huh. Well there’s another connection to DR2 and P4. The crossover vibes are immaculate.

NTT DoCoMo Kawasaki Building If you walk along Sakura-dori from the east exit of Kawasaki Station, you will come across a spectacular high tower that stands out from the surrounding scenery.
The three structures composed of these blue-blue rectangular parallelepipeds are practical facilities for communication, but you can also feel the landmark elements with rich design, and you cannot help admiring the design concept. .. Text and photography by Akira TAKAUE | アキラ・タカウエ

Anata no Warehouse (Kawasaki Warehouse) circa 2018
Taken by nuo2x2 with Premier BF66 + Fujicolor 100
oof sorry, again, crazy IRL works... nonetheless, gotta finish this series!
one of my best memories when moving to Kanagawa back then, was this stunning gesen or arcade center... more like mini theme park even... pretty famous during that period on socials like Instagram and the likes, where they have gory scary yet beautifully themed interior, more like jumpin into post apocalyptic or even Akira’s world type of interior, and it’s totally free.. many tourists visit this place for sure...
personally, I really love this arcade because of their game collection, mostly a bit older, a bit more retro than what we have in regular arcades in Japan, think of 2000s ish type or arcade... and reason Im keep coming, they got music arcades from that period, like Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania V3, dayum.. only place where I can experience that game in Kanagawa
yet that snap might be my last photo of the building, since not long after, in November 2019 they closed down.. even before the pandemic..
sigh... RIP Kawasaki warehouse.. was really a gem, such lost...
Gesen (5/7)

I keep fiddling around with the surname.
There is this Japanese Film Director who is well known in the sixties through the eighties. His films are ground-breaking and revolutionary. He started a movement. His name is Akira. Akira Kurosawa. Something like that. However, I prefer Kirosawa.
Akira Kurosawa made a film where there’s both a Kurosawa and a Kirosawa. And you have to figure out which is the correct one. Something to do with his name. I choose Kirosawa.
~Mayumi Kirosawa

Kinuyo Tanaka in Phoenix (Keisuke Kinoshita, 1947)
Cast: Kinuyo Tanaka, Keiji Sada, Isamu Kosugi, Toyo Takahashi, Akira Yamanouchi, Tamotsu Kawasaki, Eiko Takamatsu. Screenplay: Keisuke Kinoshita, Yoshiro Kawazu. Cinematography: Hiroshi Kusuda. Production design: Motoji Kojima. Film editing: Yoshi Sugihara. Music: Chuji Kinoshita.
Keisuke Kinoshita's Phoenix probably had much more resonance for the Japanese audiences who saw it in 1947 than it does for us today, when it can easily be dismissed as a tearjerking love story. For those first audiences, the heroine, Sayoko, a war widow with a three-year-old child, could easily be seen as emblematic of the hopes of the Japanese people -- hence the film's title. We see much of Sayoko's story in flashback: her first encounter with Shinichi, the man with whom she falls in love; her rejection by his stern, conservative father; her own family's attempt to force her into an arranged marriage that would cement a business deal with a weapons manufacturer; her lonely life with her brother, who is dying of tuberculosis; the capitulation of Shinichi's father, who agrees to let them be married during Shinichi's brief furlough before he returns to the war in which he's killed. After all this, Sayoko lives with her late husband's family, essentially as a factotum, tasked with keeping the large Yasaka family on point and occasionally getting scolded by her father-in-law. But she tells her brother-in-law that she's happy, pinning her hopes on her small child and on her plans one day to open a shop as a seamstress. Kinoshita is often a shameless sentimentalist, but here he has first-rate actors, Kinuyo Tanaka and Keiji Sada, as the ill-fated couple. They have real chemistry together, even though Tanaka was 16 years older than Sada.

Chapter 2: Getting married (for a house)
It is 5pm on a Friday night. Akira has finished her last lecture before the semester break, plus submitted the revised grant proposal to the department head. Her brain is currently in a half-fried state.
And she's in a truck with Takinami Suzuka, on the way to visit Suzuka's parents...to seek their approval for their upcoming marriage.
Things cannot get wilder.
"Takinami-sensei, are you sure I don't have to get changed into something better?" Akira looks at her current attire; thank goodness she'd been lecturing prior to this and as a result, had dressed in reasonably formal attire, though not very "daughter-in-law-like", because which prospective daughter-in-law visits her parents-in-law for the first time while dressed in a blazer, button-up-shirt and chiffon black pants? Is she their daughter-in-law, or grandchild's tuition teacher?!
"Please don’t worry about it," Suzuka responds as he steers the truck. "Actually, my parents will appreciate the smart get-up. After all, I come from a family of academics, and they've always wanted a daughter-in-law befitting of this lineage. This shows them that you clearly fit the bill. You can even pull out your lecture slides later if needed."
"Right," Akira smooths down her formal black pants. What he's saying makes good sense - the Takinami family is quite renowned for their work in Psychology, even if in different subfields. To have a lecturer join the family would make perfect sense, though it may also be lucky that she hasn't gotten tenure yet, because her being of a higher position may have been interpreted as a threat to the existing familial and academic hierarchy.
"I do wish my family isn't as political and stuck-up like this. It's a bit better ever since my father's generation, but it's nonetheless ingrained in the way he was brought up by my grandfather. I apologise on their behalf." Suzuka isn't looking at Akira because he's still driving his truck, but she can hear that he means it. She also knows that he means it, too - he's always been a little different, plus estranged from his family, despite sharing the same line of work as well as line of study. His success had been a product of his own efforts, achieved despite not having had to stand on the shoulders of his family ties with academia, perfect proof of the actual substance he possesses as a thinker in his subfield.
"No worries." Akira is half-lying - she'd be insane to not be worried. After all, to someone she'd met just less than two months ago, with whom she'd never been in a romantic relationship, with whom she’d even hesitate to confirm that the feelings of friendship she holds are mutual…she's getting "married"...
…For a house. Doujima Akira is getting married for a house. And she’d never thought she’d find herself in such a position.
"No worries," Akira repeats, thinking of what her brother might say if he ever finds out. She resolves never to let him - the false-marriage contract will end in two years time, and it'd be like any other normal marriage, where divorce and separation are almost just a normal milestone rather than a major setback.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
When they arrive at the Takinami household, it is nightfall; they are in the outskirts of Kawasaki City, still located in Kanagawa Prefecture but quite a fair distance from Tokise University.
"I'm home," Suzuka announces, taking off his shoes at the entrance, with Akira closely following suit. He's expecting his own mother to jump on him any moment now-
"SON!" His mother buries herself in his arms. "How I've missed you! How dare you not call, only visiting once in every two months. You didn't turn up for the last blind date either-"
"Mom, meet my fiancée, Doujima-sens-” He clears he throat. “-Akira,” He beckons to Akira, who launches into a 90-degree bow.
"Good evening, madam, my name is Doujima Akira. Pleased to make your acquaintance," Akira extends a polite hand while still in the 90-degree bow.
His mother takes fifteen good seconds to process the information, motionless as she does. When she finally manages to, she starts jumping up and down while shaking Akira's hand.
"Oh my god, son, you actually managed to get yourself a girlfriend," she gasps. "And such a pretty one she is, too! Your name is Akira, you were saying? What do you do for a living?"
"I am a newly-appointed lecturer of Food Science in Tokise University," Akira whips out her laptop, showing Suzuka's mother the lecture slides used from earlier today, as discussed earlier. Suzuka stifles a laugh because he didn't expect she'd actually go as far as to do that - he actually finds it pretty cute, how seriously she takes things.
"Oh my god," his mother gasps. "Food science. That's really cool!" She runs to the back of the house, screaming something along the lines of Old man, come out here because your son has somehow managed to score himself a girlfriend, oh my god!, and Suzuka feels a bit of a headache brewing.
"Not just girlfriend - fiancée," Suzuka mutters.
(If he had to be more honest, he'd have said, "Not girlfriend - just fiancée," instead. After all, there requires no girlfriend step to be involved in a contract marriage.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takinami's father is way less scary than he sounds, thinks Akira. The way he's been portrayed to be a no-nonsense academic hyperfixated on hierarchy and power...she could see no semblance of that in the friendly old man, who seems really nothing other than a cat-loving elderly man.
Nonetheless, looks can be deceiving, so she decides not to let her guard down.
After dinner, she helps to wash the dishes (alongside a Mrs Takinami cooing, such a helpful daughter-in-law! You don't know how lucky you are, silly Suzuka). They sit in front of the TV, catching the news, when Mr Takinami suddenly pulls her aside.
"Let's have a word," is what he says as he sits Akira down at the balcony, offering her a cup of sencha. Accepting it with both hands, she realises how wise it has been to not let her guard down, because "Tell me honestly, why are you marrying my son?" is what escapes his mouth right afterwards.
She doesn't say anything - not yet. Her brain still needs a while longer, to search for the most situationally appropriate answer.
"Is it for tenure? Do you think that by marrying a tenured professor, you can get tenure faster?" He smiles as he says this, and Akira feels...she feels like she's sitting for a test.
And as someone who has spent their youth taking a bunch of tests, Akira knows just what she needs to do - breathe. Calm down. Examine the problem from the perspective of the person who set the question. Come up with an answer that is as vague as possible, but as precise as needed.
"I'm marrying Takinami-san because of love." Honesty aside, she’d thought was the most situationally appropriate answer. She didn't even have the time to process just how embarassing that sounded. "There is no other reason to get married, except for love. He is amongst the kindest people I know."
Perhaps except for the last statement, everything she has said in this string of utterances has been a fat lie. And she knows it.
So does he, Takinami Suzuka, the man at the other end of the contract marriage.
And the thing is, they’re both okay with it. More-than-okay with it, to be precise. Because it’s the way it’s supposed to be - big, fat, white lie, created to benefit both parties, according to Clause 5 of the contract.
Things cannot get wilder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suzuka overhears what Akira says when his father accuses her of marrying him for the sake of tenure.
"I'm marrying Takinami-san because of love. There is no other reason to get married, except for love. He is the amongst the kindest people I know."
Nice save, Suzuka cheers inwardly. This lady is definitely even smarter than she looks. He knows that answer's sure to score with his dad.
And sure it does, because his dad says nothing. Takes a sip of tea. Turns to leave, but before he enters the living room, he says something to Akira without facing her straight-on -
"Don't let him get in the way of your success, then."
Suzuka glances at his mother in the living room - if not for his grandparents' fulfilled wish to domesticate her, she may well have been a tenured professor herself. Before their marriage, she and Old Takinami, her then-fiancé were both lecturers in the same university. Fearing that their daughter-in-law might eventually supersede their son in terms of power, Old Takinami's parents had forced her to quit her lecturer job in the university. Mrs Suzuka may have swallowed it and lived it down, but her husband never has. Not one day has he woken up without being shrouded by a sense of guilt and apology at having imprisoned his wife, would-be superstar in the Child Psychology academic universe, in the old misogynistic stronghold of traditional Japanese society. It is why Suzuka fully understands why his father had said what he did, as well as why he'd asked the question he'd asked to Akira - to let her know that this marriage may well break her academic career, instead of make it.
Well...pretty sure that won't happen, as long as it's this Old Mr Takinami approving the marriage this time round. Plus, the contract's supposedly ending in two years - most likely not enough time to "break" an academic career. Or so he hopes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"That was quite well-played, sensei,” Suzuka says to Akira on the way home. "You have a way with words."
Akira pauses for a bit, realising that Takinami-sensei had heard what she said. Her face starts to heat up slightly at the recollection of what embarrassing things had escaped her mouth, but she quickly soothes the blush down by reminding herself of her current role - a pretend wife.
And pretend, was exactly what she was doing, as expertly as she could have in that moment that could have been a crisis averted.
"Thank you. I actually feel really bad for lying. After all, they're already getting old."
Akira glances at the man in the driver’s seat, and she thinks she catches a faint smile, but she can’t be sure in the scant light of the surrounding traffic.
"It's okay, you’re most definitely not at any fault. It was my idea to begin with.” He looks at her, and she can see that he’s definitely smiling, but it’s a smile she can’t exactly read. “Though you did agree after all, so we're in this together."
Akira smiles. She would never have thought she'd feel so assured about the prospect of telling lies together with a man she'd just met almost two months ago - the kindest man she knows, yes, but nonetheless a man she'd just met almost two months ago. Who'd simply been kind enough to provide her with free coffee, and now, a free house.
Indeed, she would never have thought she'd feel so assured about the prospect of getting married…
…For a house.
