Excerpts from the article (which appeared online as cast and crew were traveling to their first rehearsal today):
On a chilly day in early February, Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez are huddled on a couch in a photo studio in Queens. Not three weeks after Merrily We Roll Along ended its off-Broadway run at the New York Theatre Workshop, gathering again for a photo shoot has made all of the actors cry. (An amused publicist thinks it was the sight of their old costumes, by Soutra Gilmour, that set everyone off.) “It’s just really settling in that we’re taking this to Broadway,” offers Mendez, a Tony winner for Jack O’Brien’s 2018 revival of Carousel. “It’s a big dream for us to get to shepherd this piece, which means so much to so many people, and yet has never gotten its proper due.”
“To hear the overture on Broadway…?” Groff adds. “I’m gonna die.”
In the Broadway production, which begins previews this September at the Hudson Theatre, Groff stars as Frank, in turns slickly handsome, roiled with conflict, and sparky as a golden retriever; Radcliffe as an endearingly neurotic Charley; and Mendez as Mary, whose wide smile conceals great depths of longing (namely, for Frank).
For Groff, doing Merrily felt fated. “I had just reached this point in my life where I was really looking back and reflecting on relationships that I suddenly realized were almost two decades old,” he explains. He later learned that Radcliffe and Mendez had done their own “first big New York shows” (revivals of Equus and Grease, respectively) at around the same time. This was no small thing, as they approached a story as concerned with the vicissitudes of a career in the performing arts as anything else.
“The people that start young and then stay in it well into adulthood tend to love it,” Radcliffe says. “They tend to be doing it because there is something in their bones that makes them want to do this. And I think we all have that.” Adds Mendez, “There’s an unspoken-ness between us. There’s a lot of trust, and a lot of teamwork.” (When I ask Friedman about her stars’ touching natural chemistry, she tells me that in Merrily, Sondheim has “written love songs. He’s written about losing love, wanting love, missing love, despair, all the things, but it’s all around love.” So, in the year that she spent building her New York cast, “I looked for loving people.”)
For all intents and purposes, the Broadway revival is the same show that ran at the New York Theatre Workshop. Not only do both productions share the same actors—including Katie Rose Clarke as Frank’s estranged first wife, Beth; Hamilton alumna Krystal Joy Brown as his glamorous second wife, Gussie; and Reg Rogers as Joe, the producer behind the first hit show that Frank and Charley write together—but the same creative and production team, too. “We had a big break between the New York Theatre Workshop and going to Broadway, and every single person has come with it. They all took other jobs in order to be able to do this job,” Friedman says. “It just cast a spell over us all.”
As they move into the Hudson—which Friedman selected for its intimate-feeling scale (of Broadway’s 41 active theaters, it’s one of only nine that seats under 1,000 people)—she is keen to protect that enchantment. “I am absolutely determined not to do anything different,” Friedman says. “The piece is the piece; it speaks for itself. And as long as we keep the integrity of that and the joy and the warmth and the love and the storytelling—it should sing.” This has more or less been her line from the beginning. “One of the things that Maria has said from day one is, ‘I have not changed a lyric of this show or a word of the script. I am doing this show as written,’ ” Groff says. “It’s not like she’s doing a take on Merrily. She really believes in the piece itself without adding any sort of flashy concept.”
Then as now, her deepest regret is that Sondheim is not alive to see the production, but she knows that he would have delighted in Merrily’s return to Broadway. Her only hope is that after all these years, audiences are ready to receive it. “It’s a profound piece,” Friedman says. “If it gets you, it stays with you and makes you ask questions. And if it doesn’t get you, it’s got some great tunes.”
PIANO MAN
Groff wears a Gucci jacket. Pants from The Row. Grooming, Amy Komorowski.
In this story: hair, Ilker Akyol; makeup, Francelle Daly for Love+Craft+Beauty. Produced by The Canvas Agency. Set Design: Viki Rutsch.

Hey! I hope you’re doing well! I saw that your requests are open and got to thinking of something to send in right away!
Feel free to cast this aside if you think it’s not doable (I’m pretty terrible at this requesting thing haha) but would you be interested in writing something with Tommy where he meets (Y/N) at the Garrison’s re-opening party and immediately is interested by her, but she makes it tough for him…and you can decide whether she cracks and gives into him at the end or just plays along for the chase
Thanks so much in advance if you choose to write this! 🥰
I’m at a point where I’m using writing as a therapy 😅 I hope you are doing well too, darling! 🧡
Thank you so much for your support 🥰
And you are not terrible at this at all! I hope you like what I came up with xx

Enigmatic / Thomas Shelby x reader
Tumblr media
Thomas Shelby was intrigued. He had never seen you around before. But now here you were in the reopening of the Garrison, smiling next to Lizzie Stark with a worn notebook in your hand.
Turning to Arthur, Tommy nudges at him. ”Do you know who she is, brother, that woman with Lizzie?”
Arthur shrugs his shoulders. ”I’ve seen her once, was telling Katie a story while waiting for John-boy and the boys, she passed by and asked if she could listen too. Can’t remember her name”
Tommy furrows his brows before patting his brother on the shoulder and starting to make his way over to you.
You were not a spy, if you were you wouldn’t be just writing things in your notebook for everyone to see.
But who were you, that you on this night when everyone was getting shitfaced, would just sit observing and writing while talking to Lizzie here and there.
And why would you want to listen to a children’s tale told by an unknown man standing in the street?
There was something enigmatic about you. He did not know you but he wanted to. From a moment of observing he could see that you were one to listen, one to think not the one to preach.
He wanted to hear what you thought, he wanted to know you, he wanted to see what went on behind your wide and observant eyes. What were you so keen on observing?
”You don’t seem to be in a mood for celebrating”, he comments taking a seat by you, already fishing for a cigarette. You almost jump out of your skin at his deep voice and quickly slam your notebook shut.
”I wouldn’t say so”, you shrug turning your full attention on the man. You knew who Thomas Shelby was, you did not live under a rock. You had heard the rumors, seen the Peaky Blinders but still nothing prepared you for his piercing gaze.
You felt like there was a magnifying glass staring into your mind. You did not like it but you felt like you could get addicted to it.
Tommy furrows his brows lighting his cigarette before he offers one to you, which you gently decline. ”You seem to have very different ways of celebrating then”, he says back his eyes flying to your notebook for a hot second.
”Does it bother you?”, you ask boldly tilting your head to the side. He shakes his head as an answer.
”Should it?”, he croons dangerously, making you gulp. You shake your head quickly taking a tighter hold of your notepad. Biting your lip you decide it’s better tell him rather than let him think you are a spy.
”I write stories and fairytales”, you admit shyly. ”I work as a nurse and the patients need some cheering up, so I write for them. When you observe people you find that you get the most inspiration and knowledge to write something”
Tommy cannot help but show his surprise at your admission. So that is why she wanted to hear Arthur’s story. He can feel the regret of approaching you rising in him.
You were too genuine and too good for him. You took care of sick children and he had been kicking people’s teeth in since he was a child.
”Thomas Shelby”, he introduces himself offering his hand. You take it gratefully, giving him your name.
To you, he was enigmatic too. He was a person who observed before an attack. His eyes saw everything.
”People talk of you often”, you admit. ”So much, you have inspired some mythical creatures in my tales”, you add jokingly. He huffs, not taking his eyes off of yours.
”And what do they say?”, he asks voice getting lower. You cannot help the shiver that runs up your spine at his tone, you know he sees it too with the light lift on the corner of his lip.
”That you are a bad man”, you admit slightly breathless. The chuckle that leaves him shakes you to your core. There is humor in his eyes but you can see the blades behind his blue gaze. He was dangerous, yes, but you couldn’t help but feel curious.
Men like Thomas were not just born, they were made. There was a wall on him, more than one and what was at the core of him was most likely burning with the heat of a volcano.
But he was not a puzzle, people are not puzzles, they are not meant to be cracked. You did not want to solve him like a mystery, you wanted to earn hs vulnerability.
”Is that so?”, he asks leaning closer to you after taking a drag from his cigarette and gently blowing the smoke to the side. ”Why aren’t you running then?”, he continues licking his lower lip.
”I like to weigh my opinions on peoples character myself”, you answer your face serious, eyes expressing everything within you. Tommy could see it now. You might not be the most expressive little thing but your eyes, they spoke to those who listened.
He could see all of it in them. The curiosity, the desire, the authenticity and the hint of shyness. A combination that endeared to him.
”Why, sweetheart, I’d say we need to continue this somewhere more private for a more thorough evaluation"

HI LIZ plz may I trouble you to share any thoughts at all about mota 🎤
OF COURSE
ok so we're only a couple eps in but i am already <333 about so many of the characters. bucky and crosby especially my beloveds. i really love all the comparisons being drawn between bucky/nix buck/winters and crosby/webster but i also love how the mota boys are distinctly their own characters. i don't want to say they're cocky and full of themselves because like... some of the easy boys are too lmao. but it's a very different dynamic between the characters than i'm used to seeing in the other hbo war shows and i am living for it
on that note i was a bit wary about most of our main charas being officers but after 2 eps i don't mind a bit! honestly sometimes it's hard to tell rank with all their goddamn fleece lmao but i love how despite being a literal honest to god major bucky is still so chaotic. bless him. the singing scene took me out, and the bike race when they crashed and he and buck were like pulling at each other's clothes to try and get in the lead before the air raid siren went off..... cinema.
can't believe they called out the heavy petting <3 the raf boys are just like me fr <3
crosby is such a silly goose thank you for the silly goose representation. he really works as the narrator and i love him bc he is genuinely so relatable, my overthinking bestie. also him still being starry eyed over his wife signing her name mrs jean crosby oh my word.......... it's giving harry dragging his reserve chute halfway around europe for kitty's wedding dress <333
i also really love the variety of characters/roles in the war they're showing! there's obviously more scope to do that than in bob but also it's a different television landscape and i am so excited to see ncuti on my screen <3 i hope we get a lot more of lemmons too! i can't remember who made the post but someone compared him to doc roe and i was like OH that's why i liked him so much uh huh uh huh. so true. also NINETEEN YEARS OLD?
i had a hard time adjusting to austin butler in ep 1 but he really pulled through in ep 2 for me and i'm very keen to see where he takes the character! and i have LOVED callum turner since channel 4's glue (which i watched a fucking decade ago but still think about bc of how powerful it was and he was in it) and he is absolutely killing bucky. it's giving nix without impulse control. honestly all the cast are amazing, the only one i really struggle with still is isabel may as buck's gf......... i literally cannot see her as anyone but katie from alexa and katie, so in my mind she's literally still a 15 year old girl. but who knows, she could win me over in the future
the score and title sequence are so good too!!! the pacific still has my absolute fav opening titles and band is second but even though the score is obviously new it still feels a bit... nostalgic, i guess? similar vibes to the other shows and i am HERE for the way it makes me feel <3
there's like so much more but that's all i can put into words rn. cannot WAIT for the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly have to wonder if HH would really have benefited from having a newly dead sinner character as a way to introduce the world of hell and concepts which are important in a more organic way.
Like for an adult cartoon as an example: the first two episodes of Futurama are kind of great for this. Fry is shown just before he gets frozen, him then running from his fate from Leela, which results in running into Bender, and exploring New New York (both the great and not so great parts all with a layer of comedy), finding the ruins of Old New York. It’s just a great introduction to the future world they made frankly.
I know they seem kind of married to the idea of them all being from different time periods, despite them all speaking in modern vernacular and not seeming to run up into clashing in interesting ways for it, but like Idk, maybe have Husk or Vaggie be brand new sinners instead and have them be introduced to things? If not a brand new character. Like honestly I think only Alastor and Angel Dust need to have been around hell a while. Idk. Hell you could have Sir P perhaps be the modern guy who was just really into steampunk when he was alive.
You don’t necessarily have to have someone brand new to be the audience surrogate to explain or contrast things to the audience (Helluva Boss sure as hell didn’t and I liked their first season, and honestly I think the pilot for HH was also pretty solid) but I think this show needs something like that as a structure when it’s otherwise written like we should already know/care about certain things.
Having someone new and scared (a person dies every few seconds irl) join the hotel would also just be a realistic thing to happen. Like unless someone is completely mired in hell’s culture already I’m not sure how newbies, which would be, on the basis of death rates and if heaven is especially picky, thousands upon thousands of newbies each day, wouldn’t have a few hundred of those ones at least looking at it. But like even just having a few as a sample would be good and it would be understandable not to overwhelm the cast like that.
Like Vaggie talks about people being desperate enough to try anything when news of the extermination being moved up happens but wouldn’t most people brand new to hell be scared and desperate? I mean, it’s hell. That post about a Christian ending up in hell I reblogged is a genuinely good idea I think. Could even have them run into the Christian Assholes a la Katie Killjoy or something for variety.
Maybe they even could ask questions like why not simply make hell a better place to live somehow. Or not be keen on going to heaven when they hear of the exterminators if not experiencing them. (Like I said people are dying all the time: imagine ending up in hell right as the extermination is happening).

Katy Keene -only1 degree of separation by u/Throwawill-Throwaway
Katy Keene -only1 degree of separation Thought I’d share this.In 2004 Meghan filmed a pilot episode for a 2006 prime time tv show for the ABC network (owned by Disney). It was called Secrets of a Small Town. “The mysterious murder of a teenage girl and the disappearance of her sister shake up a small town.” The show wasn’t picked up and never aired. But the cast included the following: Leighton Meester, Angie Harmon, Denise Richards, Kaley Cuoco, and Lucy Hale.At that time Lucy Hale was very new, but Meghan had already been in a few things. In 2020 Lucy was starring as the title character in the show Katy Keene, a Riverdale spinoff.I can definitely imagine Meghan jealously watching the projects someone she once briefly worked with (especially someone she viewed as “lesser”) climbs to. She probably seethes that it should have been her.Even if she weren’t a fan of the Archie and Katy Keene comic books, she likely was aware of the show.https://ift.tt/2XdkZTH post link: https://ift.tt/g0TRevG author: Throwawill-Throwaway submitted: January 12, 2024 at 05:58PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

my conscience simply can't leave a list unfinished so I had to watch all of Cary Elwes' tv appearances as well... Turns out I've already seen much more than the John Paul II movie I had originally known him from.
Seinfield (1996) - Have I ever watched Seinfeld? No. Have I ever seen this episode? Yes. How is that possible? I don't know.
Tumblr media
The Pentagon Wars (1998) - not something I'd normally enjoy but it wasn't bad (?
Tumblr media
From Earth to the Moon (1998) - don't care, sorry
Tumblr media
The Outer Limits (1999) - I recognized the fiancee and the alien immediately so 1) I must have seen this when I was a kid 2) I never recognized him bc I'd have remembered that. This show looks so good I need to watch more
Tumblr media
Race against time (2000) - another "I'm sure this was on tv in like 2005 when I was down with the flu" movie
Tumblr media
Night Visions (2001) - I don't remember his episode but I definitely have seen A View through the Window before 😭 just like the outer limits I want to watch the whole thing tbh. And that transphobe had it coming??
Tumblr media
The Uprising (2001) - another show I've watched before but I was probably too distracted by David Schwimmer to recognize anyone else. The fake Polish accents were a surprise, god, just why? They all spoke English anyway. Also, did they cast him bc he also has a Jewish great-grandmother?
Tumblr media
The X-Files (2001) - I jumped from season 2 to season 9 for this post and... he's really good at playing characters you'll just hate immediately. Saved this for the last and watched it on Christmas eve.
Tumblr media
The Riverman (2004) - ok so I watched this one in Italian bc it was on youtube and again, why do I feel like I've come across this movie before? The plot boils down to "Ted Bundy wants attention 😟" so it's terrible also the wig he wears at some point is so hilariously bad
Tumblr media
Pope John Paul II (2005) - this movie is on tv literally every Holy Saturday, I just wish I could find it in English bc I'm sure their polish is ridiculous. Also maybe don't have a 43-year-old play a character between ages 18 and 58 🥴
Tumblr media
Haskett's Chance (2006) - i didn't find this one
Law & Order: SVU (2007) - genuinely surprised he didn't end up being the murderer for once.
Tumblr media
Psych (2009-2014) - I had my doubts but this was amazing, Pierre is such a legend
Tumblr media
Leverage (2012) - the premise of this show sounds so good on paper but something about the execution just doesn't work
Tumblr media
Perception (2012) - don't know what much to say about this one, another late afternoon crime show my sister would be obsessed with
Tumblr media
Anna Nicole (2013) - surprisingly decent
Tumblr media
Granite flats (2014) - I don't really care about the plot so I only watched 2 episodes
Tumblr media
The Art of More (2015) - this show is sooo boring
Tumblr media
Life in Pieces (2016) - it wasn't funny enough for a sitcom but he was doing his best
Tumblr media
Workaholics (2017) - I take it back, I at least chuckled at Life in Pieces, this one was simply not funny at all
Tumblr media
Youth & Consequence (2018) - I'm too old to care about Instagram drama
Tumblr media
Andre the Giant (2018) - so I know nothing about wrestling but Andre's life was so fascinating and tragic 😞
Tumblr media
Stranger Things (2019) - I will watch anything but stranger things, sorry
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2019) - Jane Lynch was shining, you'd barely notice he was there
Tumblr media
Katy Keene (2020) - this pic is terrifying but I'm not going back to take a new one, also I'm ok with not knowing anything about Riverdale

Collection Report Part 2: Widmer Brothers Brewing Company Records, 1984-2013
Previously, I posted about the collection pick up and the collection description. Today I'm going to tell you about the Widmer Brothers Brewing Company company!
Read Jeff Alworth's book The Widmer Way. It's way better than this post.
Check out the whole guide to the collection.
Tumblr media
The Widmer Brothers Brewing Company was founded in 1984 in Portland, Oregon by Kurt and Rob Widmer.
Portland is known as the locus of a local beer scene. The Cartwright Brewing Company founded there in 1980, four years later the Bridgeport Brewing Company and Widmer Brewing followed. Not everyone was keen to try the unfamiliar beers and the brothers struggled to get taverns to offer them. They only sold beer in kegs, believing flavor was degraded by the bottling process, so they were dependent on draft sales. To increase awareness and promote their beers, they formed the "Widmer Designated Drinker" program; the brothers and their friends rented vans (driven by nondrinkers) and traveled to bars where they ordered large amounts of Widmer beer. Fortunately, in future years they sold more than their friends and families consumed.
Kurt was introduced to a wide variety of beer styles while living in Germany in the 1970s, and brewed his own beer after he returned to the United States. He used a traditional strain of yeast obtained from the Brewing Research Institute in Weihenstephan, Bavaria, and later returned to Germany to fine-tune his craft at a brewery in Dusseldorf. The brothers wanted to open a brewery and raised more than $50,000 from family members and an outside investor. With their father Raymond, they set about assembling a small brewery at 1405 NW Lovejoy Street, in an industrial part of NW Portland now known as the Pearl District. At the time, the brewing industry was comprised of large, industrial-sized breweries, which meant this smaller microbrewery had to be creative when acquiring equipment. They purchased used dairy and restaurant equipment (a dairy tank turned mash tun and shrimp cooker turned whirlpool), and by fall began running test batches.
The first Widmer offering, Altbier (German for "old beer"), was offered for sale in early 1985, and the richly flavored brew was soon joined by Weizenbier, a lighter variety filtered wheat beer. They marketed the beer to taverns and pubs, often delivering kegs in the red 1970 Datsun pickup truck they borrowed from their dad. Their first year production totaled 400 barrels. The Dublin Pub was their first longtime account and served both Altbier and Weizenbier; in 1986, owners Carl Simpson and Katie Bullard wanted them to make a third beer. This was a challenge because they only had two fermenters and couldn’t afford to buy another. They decided to leave the Weizenbier unfiltered, use Cascade hops, and put it directly into kegs. The result was a uniquely cloudy beer, the first American-style Hefeweizen or Hefe, which translated from German means "yeast wheat." This style of "American Hefeweizen" and the custom of serving wheat beers with a slice of lemon spread widely. Also in 1986, the brewery released Festbier, a seasonal "winter warmer" beer brewed for winter months.
Annual production increased each year. By 1989, they reached maximum capacity on their brewing equipment and had to turn away new business. They bought two adjoining historic buildings in North Portland that were slated for demolition and planned to renovate them for a new brewery. The 100-year-old Smithson and McKay Buildings had Italianate and Romanesque Revival brickwork, a cast-iron storefront, and were on the National Register of Historic Places. The extensive interior work meant renovation costs were significantly higher than constructing a new facility from scratch. They increased production dramatically, but demand grew even faster. In 1992, they laid out plans for an expansion adjacent to the brewery that would, once again, double production. They continued to only distribute their beer in kegs, but in 1996, decided to begin bottling.
In 1995, they opened a pub and restaurant, the Widmer Gasthaus, and began work on the brewery expansion. In spring of 1996, the new $20 million brewery opened and its brewing vessels and utilities were connected to the older one through under-the-street tunnels. At that time, Widmer produced 11 different beers; this included year-round production of Hefeweizen, Widberry Weizen, Blackbier, Amberbier, Altbier, and Weizen and seasonal beers Doppelbock, Oktoberfest, and Winternacht. In 1997, they introduced new beers, including Widmer Vienna and Czech Pilsner, as well as a hard cider. They made seven year-round brews and the seasonals Golden Bock, Sommerbrau Kolsch, and Hop Jack Pale Ale. In early 2000, they unveiled redesigned packaging, which emphasized the "W" initial in the firm's name and featured more colorful graphics. In 2003, they started brewing Hefeweizen at the New Hampshire RedHook Ale Brewery plant. In 2004, they introduced a seasonal brew called Snowplow Milk Stout, which had been developed by the Oregon Brew Crew, a home brewers club to which the brothers belonged. In 2005, they launched the “W Series,” which showcased their brewmaster’s most innovative and creative recipes.
In 1997, they sold a 27% stake to Anheuser-Busch InBev for $18.25 million in order to gain access to their distribution network and strengthen the company financially at a time when many craft brewers were struggling. Anheuser-Busch InBev had already purchased a stake in Seattle's RedHook Ale Brewery. In 2007, RedHook and Widmer Brothers announced plans to formally merge, forming a new company called the Craft Brewers Alliance, It was renamed Craft Brew Alliance in 2012. By 2013 was composed of five beer and cider brands: Widmer Brothers Brewery, RedHook Ale Brewery (founded in 1981 in Seattle, Washington), Kona Brewing Company (founded in 1994 in Kona, Hawaii), Omission Beer (developed in 2012 in Portland), and Square Mile Cider (launched in 2013).
Kurt Widmer retired in 2016, the Gasthaus closed in 2019, and Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired the company in 2020.

Cast decisions
My group and I sent out emails and messages to relevant platforms to acquire a group of actors that were experienced and free during our shoot dates. After that we waited for a couple days to let the responses pile in, there were quite a few and so we met as a group to narrow down the list to our final cast.
For Maggie we decided to go for someone who was outside of uni due to the rest of the cast being within our course. We originally found a girl that we all liked alot and had a lot of experience in acting and so we felt that would be perfect for a lead role, however she later emailed us back saying that she was unavailable for our shoot dates and so we were back to square one. Luckily however, another girl named Hannah actually sent in a self-tape originally for the role of Anna but we all agreed as a group based on her performace and appearance that Maggie would be her best role. And so, Maggie was set.
For Anna we all agreed that Annabelle from our course was the epitome of Anna based on her own personal style (which is very reminiscent of the 70s/80s) and her self-tape which she sent in to us, Annabelle gave us the energy that we were looking for and so the role of Anna was decided. Katie and I when writting the script in the first place envisioned Annabelle as Anna, so this casting worked out nicely.
Now on to the male roles...
There weren't many self-tapes in for the male characters so we decided to turn to our coursemates who we thought would be keen and fit the part.
For Dempsey we as a group knew that we wanted him to seem confrontational but not cocky so as to fit the character description in the script, Joe, my flatmate and coursemate showed his interest in the role as he wanted to get more in to acting. Since he was my flatmate I got to see a bit of his performace of Dempsey and I was very confident he would fit the role based off of what I saw. I talked this over with my group and we agreed he would be Dempsey.
For Terry we wanted a man who was visably older than the rest of the characters to show the difference of maturity as the reason a fight breaks out in the script is because Terry is older than everyone else, he is an adult, which highlights his creepy behaviour towards Maggie. This proved difficult for casting as finding someone older is quite hard and we didn't want him to be any older than 25. Isaac in our course is known for his acting as he has been in a lot of our student films and so I knew that he would be good at adapting himself for the role. The fact that he is ginger, noticably taller and has a strong english accent we thought this would be enough to set him apart from the group of smaller irish/scottish accented actors since Isaac is not visably older. Having Isaac and Joe play Terry and Dempsey was good for the casting due to the fact that they are friends and so they are comfortable with eachother and since the two characters fight in the film it would mean that they would be able to practice with one another beforehand and also not have to build up a relationship to make the fight not see, rigid
Finally, For Jimmy, Katie and I wrote his character as quite goofy and ditsy, almost a puppy running after Anna. His character is playful and so we needed to find someone who was capable of fitting that role which would be tough. Isaac was originally thought of to play Jimmy due to his natural outgoing nature but we thought Terry was better suited for him and so Lachlan DB was considered as he expressed his interest in the film, Lachlan has also been in many student films and so we knew he would be good at learning lines and fitting the vibe of Jimmy well.
And with that the cast was complete!
Here is a summary of the roles down below:
Maggie: Hannah
Anna: Annabelle
Dempsey: Joe
Terry: Isaac
Jimmy: Lachlan

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: Any Closer to Home by Katie Daley
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/any-closer-to-home-by-katie-daley/
Any Closer to Home is a song of bewilderment, a body searching Earth for the beat beneath the turmoil so it can dance nevertheless. There’s a jig for blistered fists, a naked waltz in a laundromat, and a blues lullaby for the end of the world. Migrants sweep the front stoop of Jupiter as mountainsides go up in flames. A donkey bellows, an apple falls, a bruise is swallowed. A long-distance driver pulls off the highway to kneel in a field of fireflies. She wants us to recognize the invitation. She wants us to consider the possibility that for all we know, she or any of us could be kneeling in the stars. #poetry #chapbook
Katie Daley is a recipient of three Individual Creativity Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council and a fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Her work has been published in a variety of journals and anthologies, including The Keepthings, Exposition Review, Hippocampus Magazine, Art Crimes, Seneca Review, and After the Bell: Contemporary American Prose about School (University of Iowa Press). As a teaching artist, she does therapeutic writing outreach in drug rehabilitation programs, hospitals, schools and community centers throughout Northeast Ohio. Of all the occupations in the cosmos, she’s chosen to be a poet because it’s the one that makes her feel the most present and alive. It’s her hope that the poems she writes make that feeling as contagious as possible. www.katiedaley.com
PRAISE FOR Any Closer to Home by Katie Daley
Katie Daley has made a whole life cooking up poems composed as much by bodied breath as by pen and paper. “Any Closer to Home” is an unfolding feast of sound and vision, inviting us to partake in drinking “the constellations till we’re slaked,/ till there’s enough fire shaken from the cosmos / for it to fill its own cup and drink, too.”
–Philip Metres, author of Shrapnel Maps and recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship
For each wrecked deer & bloated possum
I lay my hand over my heart
then pass them up to heaven
where the summer puffs of white
are also rolling through this world
as the smoke of burnt fossils
shimmies out my tailpipe
Like a magician shaking bouquets from an empty sleeve, Katie Daley casts verbal wonders from her pen. She alchemizes today’s tired idiom of poetic plain-speak, returning the language to the darker roots of its inception, to the realm of marvel and metaphor and music. There’s not a poem in Any Closer to Home that does not dazzle you with the sheer, glorious richness of the word, the line, the image. And there’s a poem here about Tamir Rice that will bring you to your knees.
–George Bilgere
Katie Daley serenades, croons, and keens with a grief-cracked voice and tender lilt, making music with what’s at hand: moonstones and Milk Bones, broken mirrors, worn-out dress shoes, and “tea kettles that moan like trains.” She drinks deep from her life, transforming grief into gift, turning trouble into song. Between earthworms and stars, her expansive and generous poems will break your heart open to the world.
–David Hassler, co-editor of Dear Vaccine: Global Voices Speak to the Pandemic and director of the Wick Poetry Center

♛ Spotted on the Upper East Side…
Name: Penelope Shafai Pronouns: She/Her Age: 19 years old Hometown: Upper East Side, NY Occupation: Sophomore at Columbia Social Status: Insider Faceclaim: Mimi Keene
Who Is Penelope?
“Consider yourself dethroned, Queen B.”
Well, look who’s finally free of the constraints of Constance Billard and all the Blair Waldorf that came along with it. Are you finally thriving now, Pen? Have you managed to stand in the spotlight without any shadows to cast doubt? Or are you still trying to squash those annoying little feelings about being ‘second best’. Either way, I certainly can’t wait to see you again. You’ve always been very smart especially when it comes to figuring out just how best you can manipulate people. In fact, given the chance, you’re even more the puppet master than I. If there’s something that you want, you’ll stop at nothing to get it regardless of the consequences. Regardless of whoever you have to push out of the way to get there. You’re not here to make friends and you’re not going to apologise for that. Me too, Penelope. XOXO ---Gossip Girl
A Little Extra
Penelope Shafai thrives in this cutthroat world of fake niceties and power moves. She knew from the second she stepped foot in Constance Billard that the game was on. There isn’t one person in Penelope’s contact list that isn’t inner inner circle and she would rather ride the bus than be caught dead in anything less than the best a designer has to offer. Her standards are high and thinking that you’re going to make them is a fool’s errand. While Penelope has always exuded confidence, in her heart of hearts she’s always felt less than the best. Fake it until you make it, right? It didn’t help that all her life she felt compared to other people that in her eyes were just that little bit more than she was. It infuriated her, made her feel bitter and resentful which, yes, might have spurred a few ‘mean’ comments here and there. Might have encouraged her to burn a few bridges. During her time at Constance, she had to suffer the whims of Queen B and her tendency to brush off her ‘friends’.
Penelope plotted and schemed against her, of course and undetected threw a few spanners into the works of B’s life. At least she was popular though, you know? Penelope is used to a certain kind of lifestyle, being respected and adored (or feared) because she was a someone. And what do someones absolutely hate? Nobodies and wannabes. There’s a laundry list of people who Pen couldn’t care less about that probably think about her still to this day. Status will always be important to her though. For example, her embarrassing crush on Nate Archibald? Yeah, forgotten the second his life fell apart and he’s like, poor now, or something. Loyalty is overrated and Penelope simply does not have time for it. Now that she’s a couple years out of the pressure cooker that was Constance, she is happy to be doing her own thing. To readily ignore messages in the Group Chat from the other ‘minions’ when she feels like it. This is Penelope’s time to shine and no one is going to get in the way of that.
What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?
TBD.
Connections
Bella Coates - Bella is Pen’s favourite person in the entire world. Sometimes the only person that she can stand to be around and actually wants to be around. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she always sends the most ‘x’s’ to Pen when they text. Bella’s just...the best. Tragic taste in romantic endeavors aside, of course. Bella could always do better.
Hazel Williams and Kati Farkas - the high school besties. Sometimes Pen wasn’t sure if she really liked her friends or not but theyre stuck in the same circles now. Kati always seemed to have a little bit of a problem with her but that might be because Pen and Bella are so close.
Blair Waldorf - the Queen B (former) that Penelope had to suffer through at Constance. She questioned many of B’s decision but the whole ‘Jenny Humphrey’ thing was just too much. Anyway. So glad that she doesn’t have to literally see her every day now.
Nate Archibald - everyone has a first crush on Nate Archibald, it’s whatever. Pen might have tried her luck with him before but now? He’s a total write off.
Meredith Park - Mer is an absolute babe and someone Penelope is actually happy to sing the praises of. It’s never boring when you’re with her!
