KC (and LFK) BBQ Reigns Supreme
Tumblr media
apparently a faulty version of this is going around that got the colors wrong (especially for Texas, famous for drenching their so-called BBQ) and left off the "Amazing" pocket in the center of the country

Jackie Curtis posing with Scott Asheton, Iggy Pop & Lou Reed at Max’s Kansas City, 1973, as captured by Danny Fields during what could have possibly been the afterparty for the Stooges’ Raw Power gig.
“I am not a boy, not a girl, I am not gay, not straight, I am not a drag queen, not a transsexual – I am just me, Jackie.”
Jackie Curtis was one of the superstars in Andy Warhol’s galaxy, a ‘60s/’70s East Village playwright, poet & genderqueer performer, who died at 38 of a heroin overdose and has been immortalized in Lou Reed’s “Take a Walk on the Wild Side”: “...Jackie is just speeding away / thought she was James Dean for a day / then I guess she had to crash…”.
Jackie’s trashy glam style of DIY ripped clothes covered in glitter along with elements of the Theatre of the Ridiculous, the underground theatre art of that era that she was involved in, were defintely incorporated into the burgeoning NY glam rock scene of the ‘70s and though more than obvious, the influence on Iggy’s voyeuristic & gender-bending performances is often underestimated. In this light, Scott Asheton’s quote that the Stooges scared people off in a different way can take new meaning in terms of blowing up people’s stereotypes on sexuality and gender roles.
