Udaipur beheading: Main accused in touch with Pak-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami, says police
Tumblr media
Jun 30, 2022 10:11 IST Jaipur (Rajasthan) , June 30 (Always First): Rajasthan Police on Wednesday said that the main accused involved in the killing of the tailor in Udaipur were in touch with Pakistan-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami and one of them also went to Karachi in Pakistan in 2014 to meet the organisation. Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) ML Lather said that besides the main accused police have also taken three other people into our custody, with whom they were in contact. "Two men are the main accused so far. Besides them, we have taken three others into our custody, with whom they were in contact," DGP Lather. He further said that the incident which happened in Udaipur was an act of terror and the case has been transferred to National Investigation Agency (NIA) adding that the state police to assist in the probe. "Main accused were in touch with organisation Dawat-e-Islami. One of them also went to Karachi in Pakistan in 2014 to meet the organisation. We are considering it (the beheading incident) an act of terror. Case transferred to NIA, state police to assist in probe," he added. DGP Lather said that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Station House Officer (SHO) have been suspended as they did not take the required action to calm down the already polarised situation in the area of the victim before this incident happened. The beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur by two men for allegedly posting content in support of suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma, had sparked public outrage across the country. Kanhaiya Lal was cremated on Wednesday in Udaipur in the presence of a large number of people who raised slogans demanding capital punishment for the accused. His last rites were performed amidst heavy police security. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday took over the investigation of the brutal murder of a tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan's Udaipur who was hacked to death inside his shop by two men in broad daylight a day ago, officials said. The anti-terror agency has also filed a First Information Report (FIR) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act as well as various sections of the Indian Penal Code, a senior NIA official told ANI requesting anonymity. The move comes soon after the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the NIA to take over the investigation of the case that shocked people across the country. A four-member NIA team under the supervision of an Inspector General and a Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-rank officers have already taken details of the incident after reaching Udaipur last night. The NIA team has started investigating from all possible angles. The incident took place in Udaipur's Maldas area on Tuesday. Soon after committing the crime, the two accused posted a video on social media boasting about the "beheading" and threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life as well, police said. The two accused were arrested within hours of the incident. The assailants identified themselves in the video as Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad. Riyaz and Ghouse, both residents of Udaipur, were arrested from Bhim in the Rajsamand district. In the video, Riyaz was seen attacking 47-year-old Kanhaiya Lal with a sharp-edged weapon while the other, Ghouse, recorded the crime on his mobile phone. Notably, Kanhaiya had also filed a complaint with the police about receiving threats. The victim reportedly had recently shared a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma-- former BJP spokesperson who had made controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad. Following the murder, local markets in the area were shut as the traders demanded justice for the victim. A state-wide alert has also been issued to all SPs and IGs to increase the mobility of forces and to maintain officers on the ground. (Always First) Read the full article

The two men who killed Kanhaiya Lal must face the full force of the law they must not get the power to spread their poison
The killing of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, captured and flaunted by his killers on video, is a gruesome crime. It has deservedly drawn the strongest condemnation across political and ideological lines in the country. The starkness of the horror permits no ambiguity in the aftermath — the perpetrators of murder as ghastly spectacle must be brought to justice quickly and firmly. In the days ahead, political parties and governments also need to step up to the challenge to keep the calm. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called for Prime Minister Modi to address the nation and appeal for peace. It is essential that this does not become a bid by the Gehlot government to abdicate its own responsibility, or to pass the buck. It is its primary task to ensure that a firm message is sent out that any attempt to stoke or inflame communal anxieties and tensions will not be brooked in the state, in Udaipur or elsewhere. Even as there is no room for the politics of one-upmanship, there is hard political work to be done by all parties and players. While the crime has played out in public view, the grisly videos don’t tell all, important questions remain. The National Investigation Agency, tasked with investigating terror-related crimes, has been called in, and a thorough probe will be needed to arrive at the answers. Meanwhile, it will be the work of politics to ensure that important distinctions are not blurred and crucial perspective is not lost in a climate in which prime-time TV seems to increasingly take its cue from the fringe and hardliners, and too many of those with a social media account unresistingly give in to the temptation of delivering instant justice on complex issues by playing judge, jury and executioner. The industry of hurt sentiments is quite capable of manufacturing hate and violence, too. It is necessary, in this moment, to remember and to remind that one of Indian democracy’s biggest success stories has been that it is home to a Muslim minority which has not been drawn into the Islamic radicalisation story that has been unfolding in troubling ways elsewhere in the world. As the law follows its course, therefore, politics has to step up to ensure responsibility and restraint after the crime in Udaipur. The two men who walked into the tailor’s shop and killed Kanhaiya Lal in cold blood must face the consequences — they must not be given the power to spread their poison. https://ift.tt/9YSrFev https://ift.tt/3mu89wQ

Udaipur Tailor Murder A Terror Attack; Mourning Wife Explains His Last Days
Udaipur, Rajasthan: The Udaipur tailor who was killed in the most horrific way possible had returned to his shop after days of absence, his wife told NDTV today before his funeral procession left their home.
Tumblr media
Kanhaiya Lal had skipped work for several days after he received death threats over his social media posts, his wife, Jashoda, explained to NDTV. Yesterday, he decided to attend to business again. He had been at work for a few hours when two men arrived, posing as customers.
Kanhaiya Lal, age 48, began measuring one of them; suddenly, he was attacked with a giant cleaver. The other man filmed the murder in gory detail. Then, both left the shop on a motorcycle, their faces covered to conceal their identity.
Gos Mohammad and Riyaz Akhtari, the two men seen in the grotesque video, were arrested last night. The Home Ministry has assigned the National Investigation Agency or NIA, which handles terror investigations, to the matter.
The accused men released two videos on social media - the first of Kanhaiya Lal's killing; the second, a confession that gloated about the murder, describing it as a beheading, and threatened that they would target the Prime Minister.
The police is maintaining a heavy presence in Udaipur, where curfew has been introduced in several parts of the city.
Kanhaiya Lal, about three weeks ago, had posted remarks in support of Nupur Sharma, who was a BJP spokesperson when she made offensive remarks about Prophet Mohammad in a televised debate. The comments triggered wide protests in India and condemnation from Gulf countries. The government sought to reassure them that the comments were of an individual and that India respects all religions.
The pair of men in the video said that they were avenging "an insult to Islam" and also referred to Nupur Sharma.
Kanhaiya Lal's wife said that after his posts, a complaint was filed against him and he was arrested; that was followed by police-mediated sessions between the tailor and the complainants and the matter seemed settled with Kanhaiya Lal giving a written assurance that he did not want further assistance from the police. But soon after, he began receiving death threats, which he escalated to
