{@acourtcfmuses requested a starter for Marnie Piper.}
Tumblr media
It was almost funny, how quickly the denizens of Halloweentown had bounced back. Though they had been angry with him for the attack at first, they soon lost interest in his existence. Because his spell had done little actual damage to the town or its people, most had thought it more of an annoying prank than anything when the anger had worn off.
That suited Kal just fine. It allowed him to settle back into his life without issues, and for the most part he had kept to himself in the years since his showdown with Marnie Piper. There was no need for him to stir the pot. Not when there always seemed to be another villain waiting in the wings these days. They kept the Cromwells distracted and well away from him, and the former mayor’s son was grateful he’d somehow managed to avoid a run-in with Aggie and her grandchildren despite him still living in town. Or at least he had been…until he found himself face to face with his former foe as she walked into the very ice cream parlor he had been about to exit.

I think people attribute the feminization of the word witch (and the masculinization of the word wizard) to JK Rowling too much. It definitely was a problem before her she just made it a bit worse but there are pretty of 80s and early 90s movies and shows that don't like to call guys witches and use the word warlock a lot for magic guys

Okay so I give up. I can't decide between two different options for my Halloweentown fic so- help me
Should The Crane Institute be a story about Sophie Piper or about Marnie's kids?
My brain cannot decide. I think Sophie makes more sense from a fanfiction standpoint, also for her 'rival' to be the daughter of Kalabar/sister of Kal, but like- I like the idea of it being a next gen with Marnie's kids trying to like- live up to the family legacy and casting Sophie as like- the cool lesbian aunt who works for the school. But it leaves the connection to Kalabar as more like- convoluted
any thoughts, prayers or opinions?

Reasons why Halloweentown II is a genuinely wonderful movie:
They tell you who the villain is RIGHT AWAY, before they even introduce him, so the whole movie you're tense every time he's on screen
It's genuinely creative! Aside from the premise of the Gray Spell/Creature Spell itself, which is pretty cool, they do a lot to keep you invested in the narrative, rooting for their success. The running theme of using creative ways to break out of spells like time travel to get out of being stuck “inside,” or stumbling into saying something backwards, the subplot around the mum's mask/frog date
I also love how they give Marnie avenues to get what she needs, and then take them away! She gets to go to Gort’s to look for Aggie’s spell book, but Gort’s is empty. She gets to go back in time to look for the book in the past, but finds out it was already sold before that. She gets to figure out how to reverse the Gray Spell and open the portal, but it closes! It is genuinely difficult for Marnie the whole time, so the resolution feels well-earned. And you get a sense for how inventive Marnie is with magic, which is why the idea of her being so powerful also feels well-earned
I fucking love how spooky the Creature Spells looks when it happens!! Gives me the heebie jeebies in the same way as Don't Look Under the Bed
I love that there's genuine character/plot progression that affects future movies/the universe they're in! The portal the Cromwells make not only reconfigures their whole universe set-up, but also invites the premise of Halloweentown III
On that note, I love that every movie brings Dylan closer to magic! He is very skeptical in the first movie and at the very end has a magical moment, and in this one he believes in his sisters enough to get on a broom with Sophie, he actively helps to create the portal spell AND reverses the spell on Benny at the end
On that note, Luke, who asks him to do that, is a delight the whole time. He encourages Marnie, figures out the Gray Spell, and participates in the portal spell regardless of being a warlock. I love him
I love how both Kal and Marnie are breaking the established conventions of magic in their own ways (Kal interfering with other people’s magic, Marnie interfering with how Halloweentown connects with the human world), but Kal is doing it to be divisive, while Marnie is doing it to unify the two worlds
Now, the actors for Marnie and Kal, Kimberly J. Brown and Daniel Kountz are engaged. So they got something out of the movie too!

🎵 and 🔮 please!!
Thanks for the asks~!
Favorite Halloween song?
Well, I consider it to be a Halloween song anyways, lol. But one I love a lot is Laura Gibson's cover of Hey There Little Red Riding Hood. I like several different covers of this particular song, including Bowling For Soup's rock version—but Laura's slower, dreamy cover is my favorite! It's sensual, sinister, and creepy—but also really lovely in this darkly romantic way. A fractured little fairytale.
Favorite childhood Halloween movie?
Hands down, those two old Disney channel movies, Halloweentown 1 and 2! I love them so much I got them as a set from a thrift store for $2 and always watch them in October. Lol. Halloweentown 2 is my especial favorite what with the "gray curse" and the time-travel shenanigans—and yes, the dark chemistry between Marnie and Kal lol! We don't talk about 3 and 4 by the way. They don't exist!!

{ @ofblackskies requested a starter for Marnie Piper.}

The knock came far too early in the morning. Kal would have happily rolled over and continued to ignore it, had whoever was behind it not cast a sound magnification spell on the door. Each impatient, urgent rap on the wood echoed through the house like a thunder clap, and the warlock reluctantly dragged himself out of bed with an unhappy scowl to see who the hell was darkening his doorstep so shortly after sunrise.

@ofblackskies asked: "I'm a lady in distress. You refuse to help a lady in distress?" (Sophie @ Kal)
Tumblr media
"Remind me young Cromwell, why I would wish to help you?" Especially how after the little gobin had helped Marnie do the impossible. With the door closed between the realms, Marnie shouldn't have been able to return. A turn in Halloweentown while he dealt with things in the mortal realm for a year would have certainly made Marnie more ready to see reason.

It is important to me that you all know that Kimberly J Brown (aka Marnie Piper from the Halloweentown movies) is currently engaged to Daniel Kountz (aka Kal, the big bad of Halloweentown II)
That is all
