Today: Day 1

Today, actually yesterday, I decided to write something significant about my day. Just to help me reflect and improve myself. For my self awareness as well. This may contain small things I did to help others, observation or experience and even bad actions or reactions I had. Goal is for me to read through my writing at least a day after and see if I am improving, hopefully, as a person. So, let’s start my journey to self assessment and self improvement.

My colleague messaged me asking me if I were busy. I have no meeting that time and so I responded “not really”. She then told me about the situation of her mom, who I know is undergoing treatment for her breast cancer. Apparently, the cancer progressed and her mom was diagnosed now with bone cancer and only got 1 year to live. Stunned, I did not know how to respond. I was thinking to tell her it will be okay, but obviously it’s not. I want to comfort her but I am really lost for words that time. And so I just listened. I was just listening to her while she expressed out how hard it is that her mom doesn’t know her actual situation. That she thought she is being cured by the procedures she is already undergoing. She mentioned also that her sisters called her crying about the news but she couldn’t. She should project the image that she is strong so her siblings can draw strength from her. Which why I think she decided to reach out to me. We hang up after 12 minutes as we both have scheduled meetings at 3PM. Later that day, she messaged me. Thanking me and saying she felt better. I told her, I did not do anything. I did not even know what to say. And she mentioned that me just listening to her made it lighter. I wish I could do more for her and for her mom but I don’t know how else I could be of support. I am grateful though that she confined with me and told me the situation. What else could I do? How more can I help? I hope I can figure out something, somehow to extend my support, and to make my friend feel better even a little.
