During the last practice in Pittsburgh before the holiday break, Sidney Crosby brought cookies to the rink along with, of course, some banana bread – “his mom’s famous recipe,” Marcus Pettersson said with a grin. “He’s got a little addiction,” Kris Letang added.
Crosby bakes for the group periodically throughout the season, one of many thoughtful gestures the Penguins captain makes for his teammates – impressive from anyone, much less someone of his stature. During this season of giving, Pettersson and Rickard Rakell had been marveling at the captain’s generous nature that very day.
“Me and Raks were actually just joking around about how good he is with giving gifts,” Pettersson said. “I don't know if he has a thought behind it about when he retires, that he is expecting a lot of gifts back from everybody (laughs). But I don't think so. I think he’s just a great guy.”
Crosby goes above and beyond to mark occasions for the people around him, whether it’s a holiday, a career achievement, or simply a memorable experience. His capacity to do all of that, in addition to continuing to be an elite talent at age 36 and an unparalleled leader, is remarkable.
Evgeni Malkin, Crosby’s fellow franchise center and teammate for nearly two decades, said, “It’s almost like he’s the perfect player, perfect friend. Some guys win just one Stanley Cup, they think they’re like a god, you know? But Sid, never. You see everybody wants to play here, first of all, it’s because of Sid.”
Letang joked that he wasn’t going to use the word perfect, “because there’s nothing perfect,” he laughed. “But he always makes sure everybody is taken care of, and they’re having a good time. He loves to get to know people. For me, what he did for my dad last year… the banana bread stuff… it’s just a way of looking at things, you never want to leave some people behind. There’s not a specific gesture that comes to mind, because it’s such a daily thing for him.”
Tyson Barrie, was touched by something the captain did for his agent, Bayne Pettinger, who had previously worked for Team Canada. Pettinger had been sitting with Crosby at another one of those BioSteel camps, which was in Montreal. At the time, Pettinger had recently come out as gay and mentioned in passing to Crosby how he thought the Pride warmup jerseys were so cool.
“Bayner FaceTimed me a couple months later, almost in tears,” Barrie said. “The concierge at his condo called him and was like hey, there’s a big package here for you, can you come down and grab it? Turns out Sid had gotten a Pride jersey framed for Bayner. He wrote, ‘Bayner, proud of you.’ That’s the kind of guy he is. You'll never hear about any of this stuff. He's just always doing stuff under the radar. He’s just a special guy.”
merry christmas! here’s a sweet little story about canadian hockey star sidney crosby

@jegulus-microfic / february 16: tear / word count: 724 cw: needles
Bets are James' speciality, so it comes as a big surprise when the Stars don't win the Stanley Cup Final. The thing is, now Remus and Sirius have to decide where on his body James will have to get his first piercing ever, and to say he's nervous is an understatement. That's how the three of them end up in the waiting room of a tattoo and piercing shop with an appointment for him to get his belly button pierced.
James is a generally daring and risk-taking person, not that he's terrified of needles but he does feel a little uneasy knowing that in a couple of minutes one will be piercing his skin. Despite having informed himself about the risks and having taken all the precautions beforehand (cleaning the area well, making sure he has the right anatomy for the jewel and wearing a cropped shirt to avoid friction afterwards), he still can't help the thin layer of cold sweat that is building up on his neck.
"Relax, Prongs, you're in good hands," Remus says, patting him on the back. Oh, and the other detail that makes him the least bit uncomfortable is that his ex is the one doing the piercing, isn't that funny? James knows Regulus will do a phenomenal job, he's been doing this for almost eight years so it should be effortless.
They were a couple when they were 16 and 17 respectively, and it's not that they had a bad break-up or completely lost touch, it was just the right person at the wrong time given their respective family circumstances. So if James is nervous about being at the younger man's mercy six years after they broke up, no one can blame him.
"James, you can come in," Pandora tells him from the reception desk.
The thing about Regulus is that every time James sees him, he looks more beautiful than the last. This time the new snake tattoo circling his entire left forearm in red ink is messing with his mind exquisitely, and when he finally turns around subtly smiling James is gone.
"Look who we have here, James Potter. To be honest, I never thought I'd see you here," he says in the soft, slow voice he reserves for him. "So, belly button piercing, Sirius told me about the challenge. Poor you."
All James can do is nod and chuckle slightly, shocked by the sparkle on his ex's tongue when he speaks. Everything that happens after Regulus asks him to select a piece of jewellery he likes and to lie down on the stretcher happens in slow motion. Regulus putting on a new pair of latex gloves, Regulus sanitising the area where he's going to pierce, Regulus marking where the piercing will be, Regulus tearing off the envelope that holds the sterile needle... James doesn't know much about the world of piercings, but he doesn't think Regulus should be straddling his legs during the process.
Of course he won't be making any complaints.
The light on Regulus's tongue appears again as he says something he can't quite process.
"... understood? Oh, no, James tell me you're not about to faint," he says with a hint of concern.
"No, I'm fine, I swear!" he hurries to say. "But can I hold on to your thigh while you do it?"
"Sure you can," he replies with a smirk.
That's how James doesn't even notice the moment the jewel is installed in his navel, concentrating on the way the tattooed man frowns in concentration.
"You're all set." is all the piercer says but there's no sign that he'll be getting off him any time soon.
The new piercing being forgotten and in a moment of courage, James intertwines both index fingers in the silver eyed man's trouser belt.
"Got something to do after work?" and the question is all it takes for Regulus to lean in and kiss him deeply but slowly. A tongue piercing shouldn't make him feel this good.
"I've got the whole afternoon available if it means continuing to see you in that crop top." he murmurs against his lips then bites down slightly on the bottom one.
In short, he lost a bet, won the scolding of his best friends for taking so long and got his right person back at the right time this time.

Dad!Nico x Reader
A/n: For all my Devs fans that need some soft thoughts tonight 🫶
————————————————————
Thinking about Jersey Leeds Nico coming home from the game tonight all head hung low and droopy eyes.
Jersey is already asleep, the two of you having left the arena early tonight in order to keep her sleep schedule going smoothly.
Nico finds you in the bedroom, dragging his feet until he’s in the doorway and you look up from where you’re doing laundry on the bed to his sad pleading eyes watching you.
“Oh come here my darling,” you coo, immediately holding out your arms for him. Nico curls into you, lets you hold him as he just sags under the weight of the season. You coax him into the bathroom, peeling him out of his suit and shoes with tender fingers before running him a bath.
Nico pouts as he lays in the warm water, feeling pathetic with you sitting on the tile floor beside the tub. Stroking through his over grown hair, you don’t push him to speak and instead allow him to wallow and sink into that empty feeling in his tummy.
A moment passes, the baby monitor on the counter crackles and Nico glances over at it with wet eyes.
“She’s fine,” you assure him, but he knows that. Jersey’s developing the habit of babbling in her sleep and it always disturbs the monitor.
“I’m sad,” Nico finally mumbles. “Wanted a cup for the team, for her, for you . . . M’just pouting in a bathtub now.”
You don’t say anything, just let him speak. By the way his gaze has unfocused you know he’s just venting his thoughts, the things he couldn’t say to media today.
“Last year was the best year of my life. We were good, I was playing and feeling good. Jersey, god don’t get me started on Jersey. She deserves so much better-“
Frowning, you cup his jaw and make him look at you. “Jersey loves her daddy,” you insist “she’s so proud of you and loves watching you play. There’s always set backs Nico, always mistakes and failures, but you have not failed at being an amazing father to our daughter.”
Blinking softly, Nico sniffles and nods, pressing into your palm. “I want to see her,” he tells you “but I don’t want to wake her.”
Shrugging, you get up and motion for him to get out of the tub. You wrap him up in a towel, draining the water while he dries off and slips on some boxers and shorts.
Then, on careful tiptoes you sneak into the nursery where Jersey’s little snores are filling the air. The ballerina nightlight casts silhouettes of dancers and bows on the roof and walls, bathes the room in a peaceful glow.
Nico sneaks up beside her crib, grips the side of it in his hands and peers down at her. You press into his side, an arm around him to rub up and down his bare back.
Jersey is sleeping peacefully, thick eyelashes brushing her cherub cheeks and her lips quiver as she coos little noises to herself.
“That’s your fault,” you whisper fondly “all those bedtime nonsense stories when she was in my belly and now she can’t sleep without talking.”
That empty part in him shrinks, fills up with the love swelling in his heart. Everyday she gets bigger and bigger, and with that his adoration and devotion to being her father grows with it.
A year later and she’s his proudest accomplishment. And he thinks that no amount of Stanley Cups, goals, medals or playoffs appearances can ever top that.
Nico Hischier didn’t win on the ice this season, but he won at everything else.

photos from here, I NEED FOOTAGE OF THIS. also this article is a great read. he’s invited some families who lost their homes in the halifax fires to practice:
By the time you read this, Pittsburgh Penguins players will have munched on the pudding known as haggis, made from the livers, hearts and lungs of sheep. And learned how to shuck oysters, in all their slimy, gooey glory.
All courtesy of Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh captain, who brought team building to an entirely new level on Saturday. From the moment months ago that he learned the Penguins would be playing here, Crosby was stoked. A proud native of Cole Harbour, 10 miles from Halifax, the 36-year-old began planning out his transformation from NHL star to tour guide.
“I think just the feel of it, the people, and to see the excitement for the game,” Crosby said Friday. “And just to get around the city a little bit, those types of things.
“It’s somewhere that I’m really proud of, and I hope everyone enjoys themselves there.”
In order to do that, he set something up with a unique Maritime flavor. Welcome to “The Amazing Race: Crosby Edition.”
“When Sidney found out the team was coming here, he wanted to find a fun way to celebrate his hometown with his teammates and educate them on why it’s such a special place,” his father, Troy, said.
He seems to have done exactly that.
After a morning of golf Saturday, the unsuspecting Penguins set out on an “Amazing Race”-like scavenger-hunt competition that would take them through the streets of Cole Harbour, Dartmouth and downtown Halifax, and across Halifax Harbour on a ferry.
Under the format, the players were divided into teams. They were given instructions of where to go, what venues to visit and what tasks they were to do (e.g., eating haggis, shucking oysters), all while going up against the clock.
The instructions came on laminated cards featuring the Penguins logo and a “Welcome to Cole Harbour” greeting.
The message on one of the cards read, “Every player has to shuck two oysters and eat them or have a teammate eat them on their behalf. Careful with that knife, and don’t break any shells!”
Crosby enlisted the help of Paul Mason, one of his baseball and minor hockey coaches, to help plan the event. Mason was paramount in setting up the three Cole Harbour Stanley Cup celebrations in Crosby’s honor, and No. 87 didn’t hesitate when it came to the perfect person to set up this event.
“In organizing this, when he talked to me about it, he wants this entire weekend to be pretty special for the community, for his teammates, for everyone around him,” Mason said. “You can sense how much these few days mean to him. You could sense his anticipation for months.”
Mason said that even though Crosby is the host for his teammates this weekend, he’s going to try to win everything: golf, the scavenger hunt, the preseason game Monday, you name it.
“He’s competitive at everything, even as a little kid when I was coaching him,” Mason said. “And that hasn’t changed.
“When the NHL was shut down during COVID, his dad Troy and I played Sidney and one of his friends in a golf match. They should have won, but somehow we did. He didn’t accept that. He said it was two out of three. When we won the second one he said it was three out of five. We ended up playing seven of them. The seventh one was in December with snow on the ground. They won that one to take the series 4-3. Suddenly that was acceptable because they’d won.
“Once they’d finally won, it was over,” Mason said with a laugh.
During some of those summers, Greenwood has helped organize some of the offseason skates featuring Crosby, MacKinnon and Marchand at a local arena. The competitiveness gets intense at times, something Greenwood said helps all three drive each other.
“Yeah, they’re friends,” he said. “But when they start playing against each other at times, you’d never know it. They want to beat one another at any and all costs.
“You can see how that drive, that determination, that win-at-all-costs attitude rubs off on some of the younger guys.”
Count Drake Batherson as one of them. The 25-year-old Senators forward grew up in New Minas, 50 miles northwest of Halifax, and has been training during the offseason with Crosby, Marchand and MacKinnon since 2019. He calls those workouts “one of my favorite times of the year.”
As such, he’s looking forward to facing Crosby and the Penguins in Halifax on Monday.
“I've still got posters of the Penguins and Sid on my wall at my parents' house, so it's pretty fun now that me and Sid have built a relationship and we're buddies," Batherson said. "It's pretty cool looking back on it.”
It was a tough spring and summer for Nova Scotia.
In late May and early June, wildfires raged through the outskirts of Halifax and throughout the province. More than 16,000 people were forced to evacuate as a result, many eventually returning to find their homes were nothing more than heaps of smoldering ashes.
Less than two months later, the area was hit with record rainfall that caused historic flooding. Water did seep into Crosby’s home, though to nowhere near the extent of some others where people pretty much lost everything.
“The area has been through a lot,” he said. “But the great thing about some of these communities, and the area in general, is that everyone sticks together and everyone’s willing to help each other.
“I think when you’ve seen adverse times here over the years, you’ve seen people come together more and more. And I think we take a lot of pride in that here. The fact that people know they can depend on each other is huge. I think we’ve shown that time and time again, and there’s pride that comes with that.”
Crosby is doing his part to teach local kids exactly that.
On Sunday, the Penguins will hold a practice at Cole Harbour Place. Hundreds of children from the local minor hockey systems have been invited to attend and take part in a Q&A session with some Pittsburgh players and, with a select few kids getting to go on the ice with them.
Part of that group will be kids from minor hockey whose families lost their homes in the fires. Crosby specifically wanted them to attend, with Mason helping to make it happen. Given the trauma they and their families have gone through, it is Crosby’s way of trying to brighten up their lives, even if it’s just for one afternoon.
“That’s Sid, right?” Greenwood said. “He’s going to have an impact on these kids, both on the ice and off.”
He already has.
In 2009, Crosby established the Sidney Crosby Foundation, an organization that improves the lives of children who are sick or struggling. More recently, Crosby and several foundation board members created Nova Scotia Showdown T-shirts heading into the game Monday, with proceeds going to his foundation.
“He’s helping young kids who are going through hard times, and he’s being a role model for young hockey players in the province,” Mason said. “He’s going out of his way to show his Penguins a good time here, and he’s being a great ambassador for the community.”
Greenwood agrees.
“It’s a privilege,” he said, “to say you live in the same place as someone like that.”

When you were about five years old, your kindergarten teacher asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up. Most of your classmates gave answers such as “teacher” or “doctor” or “superman”. You, on the other hand, stood in front of the packed gym on the night of your kindergarten graduation, your head held high as you gave your answer.
“A Stanley Cup Winner.”
Of course at the time, you didn’t understand that women could not win the Stanley Cup (you figured that out at age 8 and it caused the meltdown of all epic meltdowns). The closest thing women could get to the Stanley Cup was a gold medal at the Olympics. You worked your ass off from the time you could successfully skate without falling, to your senior year of highschool. Every waking moment you had was spent at the rink, running drills from sunup to sun down. You lived and breathed hockey, and as the daughter of the late great Michael L/N, you had big shoes to fill.
You just never imagined the moment it would all come crashing down.
It was a dumb idea, in hindsight. It was a really dumb idea. Weeks from the US Olympic team tryouts, you agreed to joining your friends at the lake. A place you liked to avoid like the plague. It wasn’t that your parents and coach kept you away from having any fun in your life, you simply chose to ignore the dangerous stunts your friends like to partake in. But for some reason, you decided to take a chance and take a break from the grueling training schedule your coach had created. It was a hot summer day in the middle of July, and a day out on the boat sounded like heaven.
You should’ve said no to trying to wakeboard. You should’ve just stayed on the boat, watching the epic wipeouts by your friends. It would’ve been the smart choice to make. . . but you never were that smart. One bad landing into the wake created by the boat, had you breaking the surface with a horrible scream. Your friends reacted quickly, jumping into the water to help you stay afloat as you screamed in pain, your collar bone protruding awkwardly under your skin. They got you to the hospital quickly where you were told you had broken your collarbone and torn your ACL in your knee. The physical pain wasn’t even as bad as the emotional pain that came a few weeks later.
“I’m sorry, but you will never play hockey at the level you are playing it now. I suggest. . . quitting altogether if you want to avoid having a shoulder replacement before you’re 30.”
A bullet to the chest would’ve hurt less.
At first, you laughed at the doctor’s suggestion, all but telling him to fuck off and asking to see his credentials. Your parents had tried to talk some sense into you, telling you that maybe heeding the doctor’s advice could be beneficial. Your dad knew guys from the league who had shoulder or knee injuries, and it never ended up in their favor. Years of pain and suffering, turning to questionable methods of dealing with the pain, missing out on crucial time with their families or significant others. But you were stubborn, and didn’t want to quit playing when you were about to try-out for the biggest moment of your life.
But you never made it that far. In fact, you never finished your senior season. From the first puck drop, everything was shit. You weren’t as strong as you had been, having lost muscle in both your arms and legs. You felt off balance, and were cautious of every move you made on the ice. You knew the statistics, you were at a higher risk of tearing another ligament in your knee after tearing the first one. Your collar bone, even though it had healed without having to have surgery, clicked and popped anytime you tried to make a slapshot. You were making mistakes you hadn’t made since peewee hockey. Your teammates were growing increasingly annoyed, your coaches were becoming exasperated, and your dreams of making it on the US Olympic team had slowly drifted away. It was a hard choice, but in the middle of your senior year, you decided to hang up your skates for the last time.
Even though you weren’t actively playing, your love for the sport didn’t die along with your Olympic dream. In fact, you found a new way to get involved with the sport, deciding that you were going to major in public relations and team management. Your goal had shifted, and now you wanted to be the first female Hockey manager.
But like most goals, that was easier said than done.
It was 2024, and even with the establishment of the Profession Women’s Hockey League and the US Women’s Hockey team winning numerous gold medals on the world stage, women in the league still weren’t taken seriously. You were told all through college, as you sat in your team management class to choose a different sport like swimming or volleyball or gymnastics. More “women friendly sports”. You weren’t going to throw in the towel and give up on your dream, no matter how many teams had denied you.
When you were hired by the North Island Daggers, you weren’t sure what to expect. They were known as the joke team of the NHL. Always finishing last every season, being most teams shoe-in win when they played against one another. Having gone from working as a PR rep for the Dallas Stars, you felt as though this was a demotion, a punishment for a freelance article you had written about how women were being treated in the NHL. You knew the article was going to be risky when you sat down and wrote it. You just didn’t expect to get a call an hour after the article was published telling you that you were being sent to work with the Daggers.
“We’re happy to have you here,” Beau Simpson, spoke as your heels clicked down the long hallway behind him, “As you can see, we need a little PR help.”
“Yeah, I saw that fight between Holloway and Seresin the other night.” The whole NHL fan base saw the fight, but you weren’t about to tell Simpson something he was probably painfully aware of, “Interesting decision to bench him before going against Endmonton though. He’s your strongest player.”
“Can’t let him get away with bad behavior,” Simpson shrugged, stopping outside a large conference room with glass walls and a large oval table in the middle, “Hey, I’m sorry about your dad. I got the honor of playing against him my rookie year. Hell of a player. Terrible thing, cancer is.”
“Yeah, thanks,” It had been months since your dad died from cancer, shocking the world of hockey. You thought by now you would have been used to hearing condolences from strangers, but they still made your ears burn and your face flush.
Simpson nodded courtly, opening the door to the conference room where two sharply dressed men and a woman sat.
“Gentlemen, this is Y/N L/N, the new PR rep for the North Island Daggers,” Simpson introduced you as the two men stood up, and you immediately knew who they were.
“Pete Mitchell and Tom Kazansky, co-owners of the North Island Daggers,” You answered, shaking both of their hands, “An honor to meet you, both.”
“The honor is all ours, Miss Hamilton,” Pete smiled at you as he sat down.
You wanted to correct him, but decided not to. Sometimes, it was easier to let people call you by your father’s last name, than try and explain why you dropped it and took up your mother’s maiden name. The world of sports was a game of who you know and who you belong to. If your last name was that of a hall of famer, you were almost guaranteed anything and everything you wanted, and you hated that. When you were vying for the spot on Team USA, you wanted it because you were skilled, not because of who your dad was. The same stood now, as you were trying to work your way up in the hockey world. You wanted this job because you were good at it, not because your dad was hockey royalty.
“I’m Mrs. Wright, the executive public relations and human resource officer,” The woman, who’s blonde hair was slicked back in an impressive bun, held her hand out to you.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Wright,” You smiled at her, trying hard to not gawk at the huge diamond ring that sat on her finger.
“We’re glad you could join us on such short notice,” Tom spoke, “We know that you just got let go from the Stars for a shit reason if you ask me.”
“Thanks,” You muttered, clasping your hands on the conference table in front of you, “I am happy to be picked up by the Daggers though. My dad really enjoyed his time here as a rookie.”
“Damn, we missed him when he left,” Pete shook his head, as if he were remembering the “good ol’ days” as your father referred to him during his rookie season.
“The reason we hired you, Miss Hamilton,” Mrs. Wright spoke up, breaking up the reminiscing, “Is because we are in the middle of a PR storm. We have a player who has caused quite the controversy lately and is in danger of losing his sponsors. From our research, we know that you do fantastic work with building player profiles, turning rookies into known players, making the bad guys look like the good boys. We need you to do that.”
“Okay,” You nodded, “So am I taking over the social media accounts like I did in Dallas, or-”
Mrs. Wright looked apprehensively at Pete and Tom, who sat up a bit in their seats.
“Not necessarily,” Pete cleared his throat, “You will be paired one on one with one of our problematic players.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, before realization struck you, “Wait. . .” You held your finger up, “You hired me to be a glorified babysitter?”
— — —
“I don’t need a babysitter.”
Jake grunted as he set the barbell back on the rack above him. His gray workout t-shirt was drenched in sweat as he sat up, looking both his agent and trainer in the eye, “I’m fine on my own.”
“You got in a fight,” His agent, Steven, deadpanned.
“Everyone gets in fights, its hockey,” Jake shrugged as Javy handed him his water bottle.
“With your own teammate.”
Jake glanced over to the other side of the workout room, where Wren Holloway was working out with Bradley Bradshaw, still supporting a black eye from the fight that broke out a couple of days ago on the ice. The fight, which was being dubbed “The Dagger Civil War,” was definitely not a highlight Jake liked to have hanging over him. But in the game of hockey, sometimes the tension runs high, and in that particular game, Jake had gone out looking for a fight from the moment the puck first dropped. It was just unfortunate that his opponent was his teammate.
“Look,” Steven shifted on his feet, crossing his arms across his chest, “The fight is the least of our issues right now. We have sponsorships ready to pull out on you because you’ve been labeled the “hot head” and the “problematic child”. And what is this that I hear about an affair with the coach’s wife?”
Jake groaned, standing up from the workout bench, and taking the sweat towel from Javy’s hand. Both of them followed Jake through the weight room. The Daggers might’ve been the worst team in the NHL, having a history of one play-off appearance in the 70 years since they’ve been a team, they sure did have one of the nicest facilities Jake had ever been in. State of the art work-out and physical therapy rooms. Rehabilitation pools, and an indoor track. In-house chefs that served breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus tons of snack shops throughout the building. And the best part, two full sized practice rinks.
Jake walked over to the smoothie shack, where a bright-eyed hopeful girl sat down his regular smoothie order, his name with a heart around it.
“Here you go, Jake,” She batted her eyes as Jake took the smoothie, making a clear display of taking off the sticky note with her number on it and setting it back on the counter.
“Not interested, but thanks,” He nodded, turning back to Javy and Steven, who glared at him, “What?”
“You sleep with her too?” Steven asked and Javy snickered. Jake was going to shake his head no, but had to double check who it was behind the counter, before shaking his head. Steven rolled his eyes as Jake walked towards one of the rehab rooms.
The moment Jake laid down on the exam table, Javy got right to work. Javy and Jake were like a well oiled machine, they knew one another since they were kids, growing up next door to one another. They played on the same youth hockey team, until it became too expensive for Javy’s family to afford. It broke the young boy’s heart to have to give up the sport he loved, and Jake had begged his parents to help Javy be able to play. Even though the Seresins insisted on paying for Javy’s fees and equipment, the boy didn’t have the same passion for the sport as Jake did, and he thought it would be a waste. Instead, Javy found another way to be on the bench next to Jake, working as the team equipment manager, to athletic training assistant, to athletic trainer for the Daggers.
“Shoulder still bothering you?” Javy asked, grabbing Jake’s arm and moving it in a variety of ways.
“Yeah,” Jake grimaced, “Still has that whole clicking thing going on. Guess that hit from Svec was harder than I thought.”
Javy snickered, remembering the hit Jake suffered a few weeks ago, “He laid you out flat, man.”
“Shut up,” Jake grumbled.
“Mhm,” Steven cleared his throat, directing Jake’s attention back to him, “We weren’t done talking yet.” Jake rolled his eyes, which only seemed to infuriate his manager, “This is serious, Jake,” Steven sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, “Simpson wants you out, wants you so far gone from the Daggers, hell, probably even the National Hockey League.”
Jake scoffed, “I’m the best on the team."
“You haven’t been for weeks.”
Jake huffed again, knowing that Steven was right. He has been off his game for the past couple of weeks. Missing key plays and open teammates. Almost all his shots were deflected or totally missing the net. Not to mention, he felt like his skating had modeled that of a newborn calf, shaky and off balance. The hit from Svec several weeks ago, was just the tip of the iceberg of the list of injuries Jake seemed to have racked up in the past couple of weeks.
“Look, your spot is in danger.”
That got Jake’s attention, making him sit up from his laid back position, “What are you talking about?”
“There’s a kid down on the juniors that is amazing. He’s either been breaking or matching all your records. They are calling him the next you.”
Jake’s eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t really pay attention to any other league but the one he was currently in. Of course, he kept his eye out for any information about the national team. It had been his dream since he got to the NHL to play for Team USA and make it to the olympics. Playing on the junior team had been one of his greatest memories, and when he felt for the first time, he could actually make it in this sport.
How could he have ignored that there was someone breaking all his records?
“Who is this kid?” Jake asked.
“Drake Silvia. He’s signed to UMich, but also a projected first round draft pick,” Steven clenched his jaw, “They want him. And they will have him. . . at your expense.”
Jake felt like his heart dropped to his ass. He had never felt the feeling of fear for his spot on a team before. He’s always been the best. Always been the hot commodity that every team wants, that every coach would roll out the red carpet to get him to visit their team. Before he decided to go straight to the drafts, he had nearly every single college in the country and some in Canada, begging for an ounce of his attention.
“However,” Steven looked around the empty rehab room before leaning in close, “Henderson signed his retirement forms this morning.”
“What?!” Jake spat out, “He’s retiring?”
“No announcement will be made until the season is over,” Steven nodded, “But Henderson is done after this year. . . and the captain spot will be open. It could be yours.”
Besides making Team USA, being named captain has also been on the list of dreams for Jake. All the hockey greats have been captains. Gretzky, Crosby, Hamilton. Jake’s childhood bedroom had their jerseys hanging up in frames. To Jake, no one remembered you unless you were the captain, or won a Stanley Cup. And Jake wanted both. He wanted both as badly as he needed oxygen to live.
Jake sighed, knowing what the answer to his question was going to be, “So what do I have to do?”
A smirk arose on Steven’s cheeks, “If you want to stay on this team, and make captain, you need to abide by the rules. And that means having a babysit-” He shook his head correcting himself, “A personal PR rep.”
“Fine, I’ll take the babysitter.”

the proposal & the engagement
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[blake hughes au]
request(s): Nico and Blake. Can u do something where Nico ask her to marry him? Maybe when they win the Stanley cup? & Nico proposing to Blake! Maybe at the lake house or in Switzerland?
word count: 1.4k
Tumblr media
the past few games were tight, and blake could feel the tension in her body as she watched the periods drag on. the devils needed this win to take the cup, and the energy in prudential echoed the importance of the game.
"i think i'm going to be sick," blake announces as nico jumps onto the ice in the third period. "we're so close," she says, squeezing the hands of jesper bratts girlfriend.
"i don't think i can watch," one of the other wags replies before throwing her hands up in front of her face.
before anyone else can succumb to their nerves, meier shoots the puck into the back of the net and the arena erupts into cheers. "theres still two minutes left!" blake shouts, locking arms with the girls beside her. they were all wrought with anxious nerves and energy, that the only thing they could think of doing was hold onto each other.
the rest of the game goes by quickly, and it's announced that the devils won the game. "they did it!" blake screams, jumping up with the rest of the girls. she quickly grabs her phone, making sure to take a quick few shots of nico and her brothers celebrating their win.
soon enough, blake and the families were brought onto the ice. there wasn't a second to congratulate her brothers before nico scooped blake up in his arms.
"we did it, schatz" nico beams with excitement as he hoists blake up into the air. she wraps her legs around his waist easily, the words "Hischier 13" proudly on display across the back of her jacket.
"i'm so proud of you," blake cries, pulling away from nico's neck to kiss him. "you played so good... i love you... that was so hot..." she speaks between enthusiastic kisses.
when they finally calm down a little and blakes set back on her feet, nico makes blakes heart start racing again. "marry me," he says simply, as if it's the most normal thing to ask after winning the stanley cup.
"what?" blake gasps, her hands never loosening from around his waist.
"marry me, please schatz" nico repeats, a doopy smile etched across his face.
blake squeals, and repeatedly nods her head in approval. "yes - yes of course i'll marry you!" she removes her hands from around his waist and instead places them on both sides of his cheeks. nico leans forward and softly kisses blakes pillowy lips before theyre dragged apart by excited family members - nobody but themselves aware of the proposal.
∞♡
a few days later, when they are no longer hungover and exhausted, blake brings up the proposal again. "you know, when you propose there's usually a ring..." she teases.
nico looks at her softly and blake swears she could melt with the intensity of his beautiful brown eyes. "it's coming, i have plans set up" he assures her, opening up his arms which she gladly walks into.
she lays her head on his chest, "a double proposal... this is very intense,"
"nothing but the best for you," he kisses the top of her head, ignoring the mess of suitcases and clothes strewn around their room for their upcoming trip to switzerland. "i can't wait to give you the ring," he kisses her again.
"i'm waiting happily.. just don't take too long. i cant wait to 'officially' be your fiancée," blake leans up to look nico in the eyes once more.
"you won't have to wait long, i'm too excited to be your fiancé" nico smiles.

user51 she looks so happy ugh i will never get over them😭🫶
user23 the last pic.... ohhh blakes been feeding us for YEARSS
the first week in nico's hometown goes by in a blur. every relative, close friend, and neighbour wanted to congratulate nico and there were lots of catching up to do after the long and tiring season.
also, blake was proud to announce that her german speaking skills have gotten so much better of the course of the 4 years she and nico have been dating. it was relief knowing that she could keep up with his families conversations - even if she still wasn't the best speaker.
they had been so busy the first week that blake didn't notice her family suddenly going ghost for the 12ish hours it took to fly to switzerland. nor did she really notice the excited glances shared between nico's family as they wished them off on their hike.
∞♡
"nina's so sweet. she's been teaching me more german while you were hanging out with friends earlier and i really think i'm starting to understand better," blake explains as she trails behind an overly excited nico. "i just need to work on my speaking and pronunciation.. but each time i hear you guys talk i swear i'm getting it! i think by next summer if i keep practicing i'll be able to have full conversations,"
nico looks back at blake with nothing but pride. "i love you,"
she laughs, "i love you too?"
suddenly, they were both standing on top of a gorgeous mountain with the sun shining on both of them. as expected, blake steps forward to admire the view. "after all these years coming up here, i don't think i'll ever get used to it," she enthuses, and nico hums from behind her as he gets down on one knee.
"aw, nico look there's a dog all the way down there-" blake turns around and gasps. even though she was expecting another proposal with a ring this time, she's still surprised.
"blake, last time i wasn't as prepared as i shouldve been," nico chuckles nervously and blake giggles. "these last few years have been a dream and i can't imagine not waking up next to you or not wanting to spend all of my time with you. youre my best friend and i love you so much. will you officially agree to marry me?" nico asks, holding out the ring box and opening it slowly.
"of course i'll marry you," blakes voice is muffled as she drops her hands away from her mouth. "i love you so much," she cries, holding onto nico tightly when he finally stands up.
when they pull apart, he slides the beautiful gold diamond ring onto her finger.
∞♡
"congrats you guys!" jack shouts as soon as the front door of hischier house opens.
"youre here?" blake cries out, palms digging into her eyes as happiness floods through her.
"sweetie congradulations," ellen speaks softly into blake ear as she brings her daughter forward into a bone-crushing hug. "show me the ring," she asks happily, and blake gladly obliges.
"i can't believe you guys are all here," blake sniffles, looking up to see her brothers - trevor included - and her immediate family.
"i'd never miss your engagement goldie," trevor jokes as he slings an arm around blakes shoulders. "you did good," blake glances over at her fiancee who was talking animatedly with his friends and family - recounting the proposal to the fine details.
"i know," blake smiles sappily and turns to her oldest brother.
"i'm proud of you, goose" quinn teases but blake can see the tears lining his eyes. "you're so grown up now," he breathes out, pulling his sister into a hug that jack and luke aren't shy of joining.
over her brothers shoulders she spots her dad next to nico's and she excitedly flashes them her ring.

SOTM: Bryce/Jared, Elaine; Man of the Hour (Day, Week, Month, Year)
For the prompt: One of the articles Bryce mentions. "…like, a profile thing? How it was growing up gay in hockey, that kind of thing… A chance to establish myself as like, I am now,” Bryce says. “Kind of like — not set the record straight, exactly, but like, show I’ve matured and stuff. "
It’s the definition of a typical Vancouver day, drizzly and overcast, when I meet Bryce Marcus. He likely needs no introduction, but I will introduce him anyway: the star centre for the Vancouver Canucks who went from being the enemy while playing for the arch-rival Calgary Flames to becoming possibly the most beloved man in the city: certainly if you you asked the fans streaming out of Rogers Arena after watching the Canucks win the Cup for the third time, or the hundreds of thousands of lining Burrard to cheer on their Canucks at the Stanley Cup Parade on a beautiful sunny day this June.
The weather is anything but glamourous today, however, and at the Marcus Matheson household, the surroundings aren’t either.
Jared Matheson, husband and teammate of Bryce, apologizes as I step over a box in their hallway. “We’re kind of in the middle of a move right now.”
They’re trading their two-bedroom condo for something ‘a little more permanent’. Both have decided that wherever their NHL careers may take them, Vancouver is going to remain home, and they’ve just closed on a house nearby.
“Bryce is weirdly excited about getting to mow the lawn,” Jared tells me as we wait for Bryce to finish getting ready. In light of the hyper-competitive Vancouver real estate market it’s entirely understandable to be excited about lawncare — it means you have a lawn to care for — but one wouldn’t have expected that to extend even to Vancouver’s sports stars.
When Bryce emerges, five minutes after my arrival, he announces himself by swearing as he trips over a box of his own, and then apologising, both for his language and his tardiness.
“He was doing his hair,” Jared says.
“I was not,” Bryce scowls, but doesn’t offer an alternative explanation.
After a quick tour of their condo, which is currently half in boxes, Bryce and I hop into his Audi S8 — naturally courtesy Capilano Audi, whose ads featuring him are inescapable during Canucks games. We drive to Richmond so he can show me his old haunts: elementary, middle, and high school — though he finished high school in Washington while playing for the Spokane Chiefs — his home rink, the Dairy Queen his mother took him after hockey games. He’s a capable, if slightly aggressive driver. I mention this because from the dire warning I received from Jared on the way out the door I genuinely believed I might not survive the drive.
Bryce finally pulls into the driveway of an unassuming but cheerful house on a quiet suburban street. The morning drizzle has faded, and the weather is now just as bright and warm as his childhood home, and the mother who raised him there. Already waiting for us on the porch, his mother Elaine Marcus offers me a glass of lemonade. Store bought, I’m afraid,” she says with a smile. “I’m not much of homemaker.”
Over lemonade and cookies — “Also store bought,” Elaine admits, “but this bakery is very good!”, and she’s right about that — she shows me an array of childhood and teenage photos while Bryce complains to his mother that she’s ‘embarrassing’ him.
The photos are more inspiring than embarrassing: photo after photo of a beaming little boy in an equally small Canucks jersey, proudly brandishing a plastic mini-stick (Canucks branded, of course). A true example of someone who grew up to live his childhood dream.
Sadly, as he gets a older the smile disappears, as does the man beaming in the background of so many of those happy photos. His father, Ben Marcus, was killed by an impaired driver at the age of 32. It devastated Elaine and Bryce, who was only four at the time.
“It was hard,” Elaine says. “He didn’t understand. I didn’t understand, when it came down to it. It was a hard time. He wanted to play hockey all the time, it was the only thing he wanted. He was really only happy on the ice.”
“I just wanted him to be happy,” she says, smiling tearfully, and as Bryce wraps a protective arm around his mother's shoulders, I offer to give them a moment.
“It was a long time ago,” Elaine says in dismissal, wiping her eyes. “It’s just hard sometimes. Ben loved hockey, loved watching the Canucks with Bryce — he’d have been so proud to see Bryce lift the Cup for them. I am too, of course, but it was always Ben and Bryce’s thing. He would have been so proud.”
I do give them a moment then, and when I return, my lemonade has been refilled and both are all smiles once again, though Bryce's doesn't last. He cringes as we go through photos of his teen years. There’s a sullen look on his face in every picture.
And what was Bryce like as a teenager?
"I'll let him answer that," Elaine says diplomatically.
“I don’t really know,” Bryce says, looking thoughtful. “Angry, I guess. I was an angry kid. And confused.”
About his sexuality?
“Everything was confusing,” Bryce says. “But yeah, definitely that too.”
“Bryce cared so much,” Elaine says. “About everything. He still does. The world’s hardest on the people who care most about it.”
Like so many hockey players who’ve come out since Dan Riley and Marc Lapointe did in 2010, he credits their coming out as a major influence on his journey of coming to terms with his identity as both a gay man and a pro hockey player.
“You don’t really put it together,” Bryce says. He turned sixteen the summer the Leafs won the Stanley Cup, and Riley and Lapointe subsequently came out. “Like, okay, sure, you can be gay and play hockey. Except nobody thought that. I didn’t think that. If you said that, maybe I’d say okay, but I didn’t believe it.”
How, then, did he reconcile being gay and playing hockey?
“That's the thing,” Bryce says. “I didn’t, you know? I was playing hockey, so obviously I wasn’t, right? Because if I was gay, then I wouldn’t be playing, would I?”
“It sounds so ridiculous saying it now,” he reflects. “But that’s what I thought. And I wasn’t the only one.”
But even more than Riley and Lapointe blazing a trail before him, he credits meeting his husband Jared at a hockey skills camp in Calgary. In the year before he met Jared, then twenty year old Bryce was arrested twice, for assault and DWI: the latter in particular shook his mother, considering how his father died.
"I was worried about him," she says. "That's probably an understatement."
“I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn't met Jared,” Bryce says. “I genuinely don’t. I don’t think I’d be out. I know I wouldn’t be happy. You know, everyone says it isn’t like in the movies. Falling in love, I mean. That love at first sight and all that is b******t. But that’s pretty much what it was for me.”
Was it mutual?
Bryce laughs. “You’d have to ask Jared, he tells it better than me,” he says. “But no, not really. I wasn't good enough for him. I'm still not good enough for him, but I try to be."
Another warning I’d received from his husband before my tour around town? That Bryce was an incurable romantic. This warning certainly seems more warranted than the one about Bryce’s driving.
And what does Bryce think about Jared’s warning, and his additional suggestion to take anything Bryce said about him with a healthy grain of salt?
“[Jared]’s just modest,” Bryce says.
“He lights up when Jared’s around,” Elaine says. “It’s just like when he was a little boy — every time he stepped onto the ice, he beamed. It’s the same thing with Jared. He’s so happy. It’s so wonderful to see him like that.”
And how was it, not only getting to play with his husband, but to raise the Stanley Cup together?
“It’s a dream come true,” Bryce says. “Really. I know that’s such a cliche, but so is love at first sight, right? And the hometown boy winning it all for his childhood team. They’re all cliches. But they’re my life.”
“I know just how lucky I am,” Bryce says. “Winning with Jared, with this team — it’s been such a whirlwind of a year.”
I tell him to enjoy it.
“I do,” he says, smiling so widely I have no doubt he’s telling the truth. “I really, really do.”

a few notable stuff:
1. Advice he would give a young Sidney Crosby "Probably to say no a little bit more as far as the off-ice stuff. That's one thing I look back on and it was just, it was pretty hectic. I think it's easier said than done. I think at that point there was just so much going on, coming out of a lockout. There's a lot of expectations on and off the ice as far as doing your part as a young player to try to help the league. I think it's easy to say that now but at the time I think it was the right thing. It's just, it was a bit of a year. It was a lot. You feel that pressure, you feel that expectation."
2. "Do you yet consider your context? Your place in hockey's history? Top five. Stuff like that. And I know you're gonna say you don't, but come on, by now you gotta." "I don't (laughs). Why would I? I mean, that's a debate for other people, not me. I don't really- There's no reason for me to really think about that. Obviously there's a ton of reasons and things you could debate so there's not much point in me even going there." "I'm not asking you to declare yourself the top five but I just wonder if privately you wonder. Not at all, huh?" "No, I don't. It's a compliment when your named with so many great players and you're put in that category. But I love the game and I respect all the players who've played before and what they've accomplished. I don't really need to figure out what that is or have that number in mind. It really doesn't change how I feel about the game or how I feel about what I've done in hockey. It's not really about that."
3. "Do you ever just sit on the couch and watch TV and eat junk food?" "Yeah pretty much Sunday and off days is what it is."
4. "What's it like to go the distance with Malkin and Letang? Now it's apparent you're gonna play the length of your careers together as far as it can go." "To be able to go this long and hopefully be able to go a few more years that would be incredible. It's been a pretty amazing ride to this point. To be able to have those guys around, to go through the experiences we have, to see their drive at this point in their career and what they've accomplished, I think is something that we all push each other and we all have really high expectations. They're driven. They care. They're competitive. And it's really fun to see that after all these years. That hasn't changed.
5. "What would you rather win? A gold medal or another Stanley Cup?" "There's no way I'm answering that one (laughs)".
6. Last movie he watched was, of course, Oppenheimer. "The long one. Really good. They mentioned Halifax, Nova Scotia in it too so that doesn't hurt." "Why not Exorcist? Too scary?" "Yeah, not really a scary movie guy."
7. "Are you engaged, married or is anyone expecting?" "Nope. Nothing to report there."
8. "You are very comfortable with your age, aren't you, at this point in your life and career. 36. Even the grey hair. I don't think it fazes you at all." "Yeah, no. What would faze me about my age?" "You tell me. Cus you and I talked a bit about dyeing your hair which you have no intent to do." "Well I might have to if I everybody comes up to me and chirps at my greys, I just might have to eliminate that conversation starter."
9. "You gonna fight Bedard?" "No, you don't have to worry about that."

Playmaker
Tumblr media
You already know I'm thirsty for the boys playing hockey. This time, it's Sam's turn 😈
Warnings: Smut. So much Smut. (F receiving, penetration)
Word Count: 5.4k
I watch as number six whips by my seat towards the opponent's goal with the puck. The buzzer goes off not even thirty seconds later, followed by the announcer over the speakers and the roaring crowd.
“Defenseman Sam Kiszka with the goal!”
My heart pounds like a bass drum in my chest for my favorite player. For every home game the team has, I’m present in my season pass seats.
Tonight though, tonight is different.
As part of an agreement with a foundation the team is partnered with, the hockey players are taking some season pass holders out after the game. I’m still not over the shock of the email I got earlier this week sending me instructions for later on. The game continues well into the third period as my heart continues to race.
Sam assists with three more goals, ultimately winning the team the game for the evening and securing their place in the Stanley Cup Finals. The home crowd is unruly at this point, it's getting harder and harder to hear my own thoughts.
My body moves on autopilot as I swim through the excited fans. The closer I get to the place where I’m going to meet Sam and the other players that are coming out tonight, the faster my heart goes.
I’ve had these season tickets for two years now. I wasn’t going to get them again after me and my ex broke up, but I found that I actually enjoyed hockey. Guess I can give my ex credit for one thing, and one thing alone. Can’t give him too much credit, that big head of his will explode.
I shake it off, not needing to think about him tonight and instead refocus my thoughts on number six.
—-------------------
I’m sitting in a room with a few other winners for tonight while we wait for the players to shower. The jittery nerves of all of us fill the air as we talk about our favorite players and the game tonight.
“I can’t believe our goalie got a shut-out tonight,” the girl on my left says. I’m just about to agree with her, about how the shots were whipping through air faster than I could see - but then the man on my right chimes in.
“Do you even know what a shut-out is? Or are you just repeating the announcer from tonight?” He says with a scoff.
“What the fuck is your issue, dude?” I say as I turn my whole body to him. Before I can continue a deep voice from the door cuts me off.
“What she said. Honestly, I have no patience for this shit tonight. You can leave.”
All three of us turn to face Sam standing in the doorway, arms crossed. He looks smaller without his padding on, but he’s still extremely intimidating with his presence.
“I..I, come on man, it was a joke.” The man’s frantic eyes pan over to me and the girl he just insulted moments ago. Desperation rolls off of him in waves.  “Right?”
“Didn’t sound like a joke to me, now leave.” Danny, the goalie, appears behind Sam.
Two of them in the doorway is definitely enough for the man to listen and scurry out of the room. He keeps his head down as he sheepishly walks between the two players out of the room. Now all that’s left is me, and the mystery girl to my right. I try not to focus on that too hard.
“Now that that's over with,” Danny continues, “let us introduce ourselves. I’m Danny, and my buddy here is Sam.” He hooks a quick arm around Sam’s shoulders and pulls him in close, Sam doesn’t look very amused.
“My name is Faye.”
“And I’m Y/N.”
A wicked grin appears on Danny’s face. “Faye, Y/N.. Are you ready to party like we just got our slot in the finals?”
Both of us jump to our feet to follow them out to the car that’s waiting for us. Danny motions to have us go out the door first, and as I pass the threshold I feel a large hand on the small of my back. I look up to see Sam next to me, guiding me through the hallway.
“It’s about to get hectic for a moment, just stick with me.” He says. His voice is low, his breath tickles my ear.
I glance behind us and see Danny intertwined with a giddy Faye. Her arm is firmly planted on his bicep while his other hand comes up to cover hers. Faye’s bubbly personality is infectious, as I find myself leaning into Sam’s touch.
He was right, it is pandemonium when we step out into the garage to get into our waiting SUV. The yells of reporters become blurred as we basically run to the open door of the car.
“Sam! How does it feel to have so many assists?! And even a goal!”
“Another shut-out Danny?! How do you keep doing that?!”
“The Stanley Cup Finals!!”
The door to the SUV finally shuts and the reporters are nothing but a muffled noise. Looking around inside, the vehicle we’re in is overly spacious. Sam and I have a complete row to ourselves while in front of us sit Faye and Danny in a row of their own.
The way Sam settles into his seat with comfortable confidence is hard not to watch. He immediately looks at home in the back seat and stretches his legs out in front of him. His knee softly hits mine and I can’t tear my eyes away from the unintended contact. Quickly, I look up to Faye, as if she can feel the sudden rush of heat to my lower belly. She’s leaning in and laughing with Danny, so definitely not. My eyes go back to our knees.
Sam’s not saying much of anything, just sitting with his arms crossed behind his head, eyes closed. Blissfully unaware of how I’m reacting to this situation, which is not graceful whatsoever. I tell myself no, no, no as I let my eyes slowly graze over his body. It isn’t until my eyes reach his playful smirk that I notice his eyes flutter open.
“Enjoying what you see?” Sam mutters quietly so only I can hear, but that doesn’t stop the heat from racing to my cheeks. “No need to be embarrassed, sweetheart. I like what I see.” Sam’s eyes rake down my body and I almost feel naked from it. “I’ll make sure you’re warm enough tonight,” he says gesturing to my outfit. “Although if you could stand the rink wearing that, you should be fine in the December weather.”
He’s kind of right, I have been on the verge of freezing all night. But how do you come dressed for a night out when you have to attend a hockey game first? My thigh high boots leave a couple inches before my sweater dress covers the rest. Usually, I’d wear Sam’s jersey and some leggings to the game, but my friend warned me about looking like a “puck bunny” and now.. here we are.
Before I can respond the SUV comes to a stop and Danny turns to face us. “Ready to go have some fun?” He’s quick to jump out of his door once it opens, holding out his hand for Faye.
Sam leans over me and it feels like my heart stops for a second. His fingers make quick work of the latch, releasing the seat in front of me so I can get out. “After you,” he says. I start to climb out of the car, hoping that I do and don’t give Sam a little show with my short dress. I swear I can feel his eyes boring into me, and it only makes me clumsier. After a painful minute, I’m finally out of the puzzle that is the back seat, and I turn around just in time to watch Sam exit gracefully as hell. Perrrfect.
We follow Danny and Faye to a roped off area labeled VIP and my throat gets a little tighter. Once we step inside Danny turns to all of us.
“Sam and I are going to get our first round, we’ll be right back.” Both Faye and I are nodding in response as they’re already halfway out of the VIP section and on their way to the bar.
When they leave us, Faye’s standing in front of me with her arm reaching out. I’m thrilled to have the invitation, grabbing her hand eagerly. “I can’t believe we’re fucking out here with them,” she says to me.
“It feels like a dream, this can’t be real.” Without warning, Faye pinches my butt. I let out a little yelp. She laughs.
“Definitely real.” We both turn and watch them talk to the bartender with ease. “What do you think they’re going to bring back?”
“Something dangerous, that’s for sure.”
Faye was right. We watch the boys swim through the busy club back to us. A soft, light drink in one hand, and a dark, small pour in the other. I can’t tear my eyes away from Sam as he seems to effortlessly glide across the room. His eyes meet mine and the same playful smirk he gave me earlier slides onto his face again and I can feel my cheeks getting twenty degrees hotter. Before I can fully register it, Sam is standing in front of me, the soft drink I hoped was for me is outstretched my way.
“Thank you,” I say as I take the drink out of his hands. I take a small sip and am happy when I’m greeted with a fruity drink. “This is exactly what I would’ve ordered.” I can’t help but laugh. I look over to Faye and Danny but there nowhere to be found in our small area. As I’m glancing around Sam comes up to my ear, he’s so close I can feel his breath on my neck.
“Want to dance?”
I don’t want to say anything with the fear I’ll sound incoherent, so I just nod. He laughs, throws back the rest of the dark liquor in his glass, then outstretches his hand to me. I stumble for a moment, unsure if he wants me to grab his hand. It’s when his playful smirk appears once again that I let myself put my hand in his. It seems to be so easy for him as he pulls us through the crowded dance floor, meanwhile I’m reminding myself to breathe.
I’m not paying attention when Sam finally stops, and I bump into his back. He turns to me laughing, of course, and reaches out to grab my elbow.
“You ok?”
Again, I just nod. Why has Sam made me unable to form words? Another laugh escapes his lips as he turns me around then plants himself firmly against my back, one hand on my hip. I freeze. I wasn’t expecting to be this close with Sam at all, and now I’m in his arms? He starts to sway to the music as I look around and finally spot Faye. She’s wrapped up extremely close with Danny as they dance, it almost feels like a private moment I shouldn’t be watching.
Sam’s breath is hot against my ear once more and I swear I feel the heat drop straight down to my core. “There’s something about you,” his lips graze my ear. “I’m intrigued, I need more.” His hand starts softly sliding up my side as if he’s testing the waters. I take a hefty sip of my drink as I back into him, just a little bit. The growl against my ear has me squeezing my thighs together.
His hand reaches the bottom of my breast and for a moment, I forget we’re in public. I want him to go further, I want him to touch me more. I feel his index finger glide along the bottom of my breast causing me to back into him again and I’m shocked when I feel something stiff greet me. I let my head loll on his shoulder as we sway. His hand starts going back south, passing my hip and playing with the hemline of my short dress. Suddenly, this dress was a fantastic idea. I’m glad I suffered in the arena for this.
His fingers find my bare thigh and grip tightly and I swear I could dry hump this man in the middle of the club without a single fuck to give. Sam’s hand moves back up to my hip and starts to turn me around so we’re face to face again. He slides one leg in between mine and gets even closer to me. His hand finds his way to my ass and I revel in the touch.
Sam’s head drops to my neck where he leaves feather light kisses in his wake. I’m melting in his touch and he knows it. I can’t help myself as I ask, “is this what you normally do with the winners?”
He pulls back and grabs my chin with his free hand. “Absolutely not. Like I said, Y/N, there’s something about you. I need more.” His eyes bore into mine and it feels too intimate, I try and look away. “Don’t you trust me?”
“Why would I? I don’t know you.”
“That’s true, baby.” Our faces are millimeters apart now. “But if I want to make you see stars for a night, isn’t that okay?”
My resolve fully leaves as our lips touch. The smoky liquor tastes is still heavy on Sam’s tongue and it tastes fucking divine. His hand moves to the side of my neck as we devour each other on the dance floor. He pulls away too soon for my liking, peppering my lips with light kisses.
“Fuck, Y/N. What are you doing to me?” Sam asks while he grabs my ass tight. A little moan escapes my lips and my eyes go wide. The club comes back into my peripheral and I remember that we’re not alone. All Sam does is laugh and come back in for another kiss. He rests his head on mine as we not-so-subtly grind together on the packed floor. Sam’s hand leaves my neck and goes back to exploring the curves of my body while the other stays firmly planted on my ass, keeping us swaying to the beat. Sam spots the forgotten drink in my hand and nods to it.
“I thought this was what you would’ve ordered yourself. Do you not like it?”
“I like it, just a tad distracted.” His eyes dance all over my face, lighting up in amusement.
“What’s distracting you, baby?” He says as he laughs.
“You should know.” I bring the straw to my lips slowly, making a show of the whole thing. I hollow my cheeks as I suck, watching Sam swallow as he watches me. I take three gulps before his hand is on mine lowering the drink away from my lips.
Sam’s quick to replace the straw with his own lips, the hand on my ass tightening in response. His tongue brushes against my lips asking for an invite I’m all too willing to give. My hand snakes up to his neck, his long hair tickling my knuckles as I make my way up to his jaw. I know his jaw is sharp, but feeling it with my hands is a totally different level. I separate my lips from his and I swear I hear a whine pass his lips. I attach my lips to his jaw, giving him the same feather light kisses he was giving me earlier. When I reach his ear and graze my teeth against his earlobe, he gives me a small growl. I’m living for it.
I start to become braver as I skate my hand down his neck onto his chest. I’m greeted by a hard, chiseled surface underneath the dress shirt he has on. I keep moving my hand down until I find the spot where I can dip under his shirt. His hip feels like it’s on fire with how warm it is in my grasp. Another growl escapes Sam as he grips my chin in his hand, forcing us to make eye contact.
“If you want to keep going,” he places a quick kiss on my lips. “Let’s get a room.” Another kiss. “Too many eyes here for what I want to do with you.”
I stutter for a moment, not thinking we would’ve gotten this far. Looking into his dark brown eyes, he looks so serious. For a moment I swear I see a flash of fear that I’m going to turn him down.
“Absolutely.” I respond with a soft kiss. Relief floods Sam’s eyes as that playful smirk I’ve come to adore tonight shows itself again. I couldn’t say no, I want this too. He takes the empty glass from my hands and replaces it with his free one. Guiding us once again effortlessly through the crowd. He brings us back to the bar top and discards my glass, but then waves the bartender down and orders two shots.
Sam’s arm slips around my waist, bringing me close to him. I take the opportunity to place my hand back on his chest while we wait. The bartender comes back and places two, thankfully clear, shots in front of us.
“To tonight,” Sam says while handing me my glass.
“To tonight.” I reply as we clink our small glasses together and simultaneously throw them back.
We discard our glasses and his arm stays wrapped around me as we leave the club. I didn’t realize when we first got here with how we ran inside, but the club is part of a casino. There are hotel rooms for people who visit and play too late. Then there’s rooms for people like Sam and I. He guides us to the hotel front desk before stopping in front of the little waiting area all lobbies seem to have.
“Wait here, I’ll get us our room.” He plants a kiss on my forehead and turns to the desk. I watch as he talks with the person working, standing so confidently as he gets us a room for the night. I let my eyes slowly work down his body, I can’t hear what they’re saying anyways. His long dark hair just passes his shoulders, down to his defined back and shapely ass. I’m still staring as he turns around and smiles at me.
“Ready?” Sam says with a laugh.
I bring a hand up to my mouth, almost sure I was drooling over him. I wasn’t, thankfully. I nod and stand, making my way over to him. He takes my hand once I reach him and gives me a quick kiss before guiding us over to the elevators. We’re quiet as we listen to the ‘ding’ of the elevator making its way down to us. The nervous, excited energy between us is electrifying. When the final, sweet ‘ding’ we’ve been waiting for Sam ushers me in as soon as the doors open. He’s almost feral as he fumbles for the close door button and smashes the floor number we’re going to. We both stand on the edges of the elevator as we watch the silver doors close.
As soon as they do, Sam’s hand is around my wrist dragging me towards him. I give a small yelp to the unexpected but welcomed motion. Our hands are all over each other as our lips fuse together. His teeth grab onto my bottom lip, dragging slowly across them. I can’t help but moan at the feeling. It feels too quick when we hear the ‘ding’ signifying we’ve hit our floor. His hand is around my wrist quicker than I can register his lips are off mine. He’s basically dragging me down the hall with how dazed I am from our elevator makeout that I run into his back when he stops at our door. His back shakes while he laughs and digs out our key card from his pocket.
“Ready?” Sam says while looking back at me.
“Ready.”
Sam opens the door fully and lets us inside, and I’m unsure what I was expecting with a pro athlete but it wasn’t this. We walk into a living room style area with two doors leading into other places. One door is open, and I can see a bed just inside. The other door I assume is the bathroom. Sam’s at my back now as I take in the room, running his hands up and down my sides while he presses kisses into my neck.
“Wow,” I finally say after much too long.
Sam’s quicker with his response.“Only the best for my girl.”
My mind catches on to that. His girl. The heat between my thighs intensifies as I turn around to look him in the eye. “I knew I was right about you.” Is all he says before he hoists me up. My legs instinctively wrap around his thighs and he kisses me hard like he needs this. It doesn’t take long before I feel Sam fall back onto a plush surface. It takes me a moment to realize he’s made his way to the bed already, and we’re sitting on the edge of it. He takes the opportunity to push my short dress up, and I thank the heavens above I decided to wear dark green lace panties. I swear I see Sam’s pupils dilate as he stares, bringing his finger to outline my folds.
My breathing has become staggered, we’re both focused on his hands. He keeps one in front slowly tracing me, while the other grabs onto my bare ass. My head lolls back for a moment, the feeling of his hot hands are overwhelming. I gasp and snap my head back down to where his fingers land. He’s found my clit and he’s not shy about it, his fingers worship me as they slowly touch me. I can feel myself unwinding, and I want some sort of friction. It feels like Sam can read my mind now as the hand on my ass pushes me up towards his hard bulge. Once I make contact I swear we both stop breathing.
We both watch silently as I fumble with his button. When I finally get it done I waste no time with his zipper and raising on my knees momentarily so he can pull them down. I love that he leaves his boxers on for me to peel off of him. I sit back on him with just our underwear separating us and we both gasp. My hot center meeting his hard cock is almost too much. Both of his hands move to my ass as he makes me grind him, earning a moan from me. Sam’s hands move to the bottom of my dress, lifting it over my head and off of me.
He holds me by the waist and leans back to look at me. “Fuck,” is all that passes his lips before he’s flipping us over and has me laid out on the bed. I look up at him through surely hooded, desperate eyes.
“I want you.”
“Baby, I want you too, but I need to taste you first. Fuck, you look-” Sam looks up at me with eyes that are so dark I don’t see color anymore. His hands wrap around my panties as he looks up at me with a silent question. I nod, letting him know this is okay and he quickly pulls them down and throws them on the floor.
Sam looks at me one more time with those dark eyes before lowering himself to my center. He takes his time, leaving small kisses on my thighs that have me raising my hips up, leading him to what I want.
“Needy girl,” he chastises and I swear to God I melt into the bed. He presses a singular kiss on my clit before licking against my pussy. My eyes roll back into my head as he eagerly laps at me and I weave my fingers into his hair. With it being long, I have more to grab and I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy it. I’m close, and Sam knows it as he pays special attention to my clit. He inserts a finger inside of me, expertly hitting that spot I can only hit with my vibrator at home.
“Sam, fuck yes.” I cry. He moans against me and that’s all I need to be pushed over the edge. My thighs tighten around his head as I ride his face through my orgasm. He doesn’t stop until I’m squirming away from him trying to push his head away.
“Oh, I’m not done with you. You taste fucking delicious. You can give me one more before I go inside of you, can’t you?” He attaches his mouth back onto my pussy and I’m rendered useless. I grab back onto his hair as he licks and fingers me, making me incoherently babble. My second orgasm comes out of nowhere and hits me like a freight train. I’m squeezing Sam’s head so hard with my thighs I’m afraid I’m going to kill him. I’ve never come twice from someone going down on me, and now Sam’s got me second guessing everything.
Once I finally come down he presses soft kisses to the insides of my thighs and my hips, slowly making his way up my body. It’s then I notice his cock straining against his boxers. Sam follows my eyeline down and that playful smirk appears once more. In a flash he flips us so that he’s laying down and I’m on top. My sensitive center rests on him once we flip and I become ravenous.
“Think you can help, baby?” I look up to Sam’s eyes which are hooded and still dark. Being this close I can see that his pupils are blown out, I press a soft kiss on his lips where I can taste me, and I’m a little surprised to find I like it. I like that this man tastes like me. At some point during our interaction he unbuttoned his shirt and taken it off, showing me his whole body. I kiss my way down until I hit his boxers, then I grab them on both sides so I can bring them down as I go.
As soon as I get it over his cock it springs free, and is very hard. I waste no time bringing my lips to the head and wrapping them around it. I’m rewarded with a deep, husky moan. I take my time playing with the head of his cock with my tongue. I feel his hips buck and I swear I hear a ‘please’. Without warning, I take him to the hilt, slightly choking on him. His hand flies to the back of my head with a ‘fuck’ and he lets me bob my head a couple of times before he’s pulling me off.
“I need to be inside you, please baby.” He flips us back over and grabs a condom resting on the nightstand. Once he is sheathed, he places the head teasingly at my entrance. I watch as he drags it up and down, playing with my clit too.
“Sam, please.” I sound desperate and I don’t care because before I can even finish my plea he’s slowly pushing inside of me. We both loudly moan as he pushes deeper and deeper until he’s sitting at the hilt. He leans down and kisses me. I bite his lip and he groans while trying to push even deeper into me.
Without warning, he pulls out quickly then pushes back in, making my eyes roll into the back of my head as I loudly moan. He keeps his slow rhythm while keeping his lips on me. My hand instantly grips his arm as he attaches his mouth to one of my hard nipples. He bites, just enough for a small bit of pain before he lets go and gives the same attention to my other one.
I’m completely lost in Sam and I don’t mind one bit. I run my hands up and down his bicep, feeling the ridges in his muscles. His lips are the most distracting, anywhere they go they have my utmost attention that I actually whine when he pulls them away completely. He leans down so they graze my ear.
“I want you on top, is that okay baby?”
“Yes, please yes.”
Snaking his arm around my waist, he swiftly flips us over. Helpingme so I’m sitting upright on him. I place my hands on his hard stomach as I slowly move up and down with every intention of driving him absolutely crazy. Sam reaches out and pinches my nipple which has me moaning and moving my hips quicker in response.
“Not fair,” I whine, “I was trying to do something.”
“I could see it in your eyes, baby. You’re not very good at being sly.” He lifts his hips up to meet mine with every thrust. I can’t help but pick up the pace, he feels and looks so good under me. Sam looks up at me and it makes me feel so fucking powerful.
“Such a good fucking girl,” Sam says as I watch him bring his finger to my exposed clit and starts to rub it as I bounce on him. The new added pressure is a very welcome feeling, but I’m even closer to the edge now.
“Sam, please, I’m so close.” I don’t know what I’m even pleading for anymore, just that I want him.
“Come for me, baby.” That was all I needed to be pushed over the edge, my orgasm hitting me hard and fast. “Baby, I’m right behind you,” is all he says before I feel him tense up underneath me, coming just as hard. I collapse on top of him, our heavy breathing in tandem as we stare at each other.
His eyes are flooded with color now, I almost feel foolish not seeing it before. The dark brown is littered with golden flecks, making his eyes look like they shine in this post-coital light. He reaches up a hand and brushes my hair away from my face and neck, then leaves it there to linger on my cheek. We stay like this for a couple moments in silent bliss before he slowly starts to pull out.
“I’ll be right back,” Sam says as he makes his way to the en suite. I lay on the bed surrounded by the scent of Sam, of us, as I hear water start to run in the other room. It goes on for a little bit, and even though I know I should clean up, the soft sound has my eyes fluttering shut. “Y/N, baby.” Sam laughs as my eyes shoot open. He now has his boxers back on and his hair is up in a messy bun. “Come here, I’ll carry you.”
I ask no questions as I shimmy to the edge of the bed where Sam scoops me up bridal style and walks me into the en suite. It’s steamy and warm once we enter, and I realize the noise I was hearing was him running a bath. He sets me down on the counter and hands me a warm washcloth. His eyes never leave my face as I clean up and discard the washcloth, then he lifts me once more and places me in the tub. The warm water is a welcome hug but it feels like something is missing.
“Sam, join me?” I reach out my hand to him and watch as his eyes light up.
“Scoot forward.” I move to scrunch in the tub, my arms wrapped around my knees as Sam settles in behind me. Once he’s seated, his hands land on my shoulders and pull me into him. This is now perfect. The warm water, the hot man running his hands along my arms in a comforting embrace. He buries his nose in my hair as I try to burrow even closer to him.
“Tonight was nice.” Sam says softly.
“It was very nice, I didn’t expect this.”
“I didn’t either, but I’m glad you took the chance. Stay the night with me.”
With my eyelids already heavy, it was an easy choice. “Okay.”

pyrrhic with your choice of man 😘
this is screaming "more angst" at me so again, you've all been warned
"pyrrhic - won at too great a cost" with vince dunn
Tumblr media
They'd won.
They'd won the fucking Cup. The whole god damn thing.
He'd won it again. A second time.
Two time Stanley Cup Champion Vince Dunn.
While it had a nice ring to it, and while a part of him felt the victory, felt the will to celebrate, there was an even greater part of him that felt like ultimately, he lost.
"I hope it's worth it," you had told him all those weeks ago, when the playoffs were gearing up and he just felt like being with you was too much to handle - 'added unnecessary bullshit' to his plate, were the words he believed he spat at you. "I hope you make it, Vince. I really do. I hope you win it all, I hope you get to enjoy it a second time, and I hope it's worth it."
Except, it isn't.
He wonders belatedly if you knew it wouldn't be, if that's why you said it.
Even as he hoists the cup over his head and takes his victory lap around the ice, even as he sees the happy faces of his teammates, their staff, his family and friends in the stands, that fact that your face isn't among them makes this all incredibly bittersweet.
"Hell yeah Dunner!"
"Hell yeah!" He screams back as he hands the cup off to Adam, resuming his spot beside his team.
He plays along as he gets pulled to do an interview and then another, skates into place for the team photo, celebrates with everyone's families and friends when they're all finally allowed onto the ice, shouts victoriously under champagne showers, and joins along with the team when everyone sings along to "Lithium" by Nirvana when they actually shower.
But he's still...empty. Still so hollow inside that he can't bear to stay with his family and friends when he meets back up with them in the tunnel.
He misses you so much.
You should be here, be here with him, celebrating with him and his mom, celebrating with him and the team. You should be in his arms, should be the one thing he wants to hold when the Cup isn't in his hands.
You should be here.
And it's his fault that you're not.
"I just can't do this," he had said, the words replaying in his mind on a torturous loop. "This is too much."
"I'm not asking you for anything Vince," you had insisted.
"You are!" He had exclaimed, gesturing a hand at the space between you. "This is adding unnecessary bullshit to my plate, and I don't need it right now. I need to focus."
You had blinked at him, and he nearly fucking crumbled when you took a step back, a step away from him, but he had been so mad, just so angry and frustrated that he didn't do anything about it.
"I see." You had said, and it was the last thing you had said before giving him your parting words and leaving him in his place, alone, taking your bags and your battered heart with you.
The image plays in his head on repeat as realization settles in.
What the fuck have I done?
Vince promises the guys he's just heading home to grab something before joining them to celebrate at the club, but really, he drives straight to you.
He doesn't know if you're awake. You live with your best friend in a small two bedroom house in Beacon Hill, and though he hasn't been by in the nearly two month duration of the playoffs, he'd made the drive hundreds of time at this point that he still avoided the pot hole that laid unpatched at the right turn toward your street.
When he pulls into his usual parking spot down the street, he can see the lights inside your house are off. But the porch light is on, and you're sitting out front with your best friend, who's got her arms wrapped around you as you cry into her embrace.
His heart aches.
Almost like she can sense him, your best friend looks up, scanning the street, and then she spots Vince in his car. She looks only half surprised, and then she's tipping her chin down a little, shaking her head.
Vince knows her enough to know what she's telling him.
"Don't," her expression reads. "You've done enough. Whatever you're here for, whatever you're here to fix, it's too late."
He wants to argue, wants to protest, wants to get out of this car and march down the street, onto your porch, and hold you in his arms, beg for your forgiveness, for the chance to fix what he broke.
But he doesn't. He can't. Not now, not when your best friend is looking at him like he'd committed murder.
So he swallows the lump in his throat, and drives away, avoiding the image of you crying into her arms in his rearview mirror at all costs.

F*ck me like I’m famous
Chapter 1
Warnings: Sex, mentions of alcohol/Bars, some language.
Pairings: Vince Dunn x Josie Hendricks(OC)
There’s no summary for this because I’m literally winging it as I go. But I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you guys think🤍 I promise I’ll update my unfinished fics. My hiatus for the summer is over.
Big shoutout to @cellythefloshie for helping me title this thing, and all the support and encouragement.
He’s actually the most beautiful man on the planet I think.
Tumblr media
“What the hell is a Stanley cup?” Josie yelled over the pounding music of the club she was in.
“It’s what you win in the NHL I think.” Kelly, her best friend yelled back “Like at the end you win it. It’s like a trophy.”
“And it’s this big of a deal?”
Josie had never seen this club, or any club like this before. It was packed to the brim, bodies practically crushing other bodies all of which were screaming. The ones closest to the bar were being occasionally drowned in champagne, or beer or whatever was spraying from a bottle. She had no idea what the Stanley cup was, or who was celebrating it but they sure were having a good time.
“I guess so.” Kelly shrugged, standing on tiptoe to see across the bar. Now and again someone would let out a cheer and the whole club would join in.
“I’m getting a drink.” Josie yelled, motioning to the bar and pointing. Kelly nodded and turned back to the rest of their friend group as Josie made her way slowly to the bar. It took ages to get there, and she avoided champagne spray twice, but finally she arrived at the bar getting the bartenders attention and practically screaming her order. She drummed her fingers on the bar turning to look for her friends when a spray of champagne splashed across her shirt and halfway up her neck. Her mouth fell open and she gasped, eyes closing on instinct before she glanced down at the foam and liquid dripping off her cream colored shirt, which was now see through.
“Oh shit I’m so sorry-“ the guy holding the bottle said. He was staring at her mouth open, gripping the bottle in one hand “Really I’m an asshole, uh here do you want a napkin? My shirt. I’ll give you my shirt-“
“No it’s fine really-“
“No seriously hold this.” He tried to push the bottle into her hands and remove his shirt.
“No please keep it on I-“
“Schwartzy you idiot what are you doing?” She turned to find another person had joined them.
Josie was certain she was looking into the prettiest eyes she’d ever seen. Attached to them was a very nice looking face, which was connected to a very very hot guy. She realized she was staring at him, mouth open with a shirt that was now completely see through and blushed.
“Hi.” He said with a smile. He gave her a once over, eyes stopping momentarily over her visible lacey pink bra and then landing back on her face.
“Hi-uh hi.” She smiled back, face on fire. He patted “Schwartzy” on the shoulder and chuckled, fixing his shirt which was half off of his body, before turning back to her.
“Sorry about him. He’s had just a little too much.” Vince attempted to tug the bottle from his hands but he protested.
“I have not-“
“I’m Vince.” He reached for her hand, gripping it tightly, finger brushing hers in a way that seemed unnecessary, and gave her small goosebumps, and made her face get red.
“Josie.”
“Like Josie and the pussycats?” They both turned to find that Schwartzy was still standing there with his champagne bottle in hand, blinking at her and smiling.
She chuckled and nodded “Yes exactly like that.”
“No shit?” He blinked again and looked at Vince. Vince however was still looking at her, smile still present.
His black t-shirt was soaked in liquor and sticking to him in a way that left very very little to the imagination, even in the darkness of the club. She watched as his eyes moved down her, slower this time before coming back up and gesturing to her shirt.
“I’m sorry about that. He can be a real idiot.”
“You mentioned. It’s okay though. I was about to head home anyway.”
That was a lie. Josie had no intention on heading home but she was now soaked in champagne, had a headache and was now uncomfortable being this exposed in front of the extremely hot stranger named Vince.
“You can’t leave!” Schwartzy slurred at her “We’re celebrating! We won THE STANLEY CUP!” He held his arms up and turned to the crowd who started screaming along with him. She laughed and turned to Vince who was smiling.
“He’s right. You should stay. Let me buy you a drink. My way of apologizing for my dumb friend here.”
Josie bit her lip and glanced over at her friends who were talking with a group of guys. Vince’s arm appeared over her shoulder and he leaned down closer to her face.
“Those are my friends, and I’m pretty sure those are your friends. And they look busy, and you look thirsty so please. Let me buy you a drink.” He smiled a very bright white smile, and Josie smiled back at him in spite of herself.
“Well. Okay. Sure thanks.”
He put a hand on the small of her back and led her to an area a little further away from where they had been, that was slightly more secluded.
“Much better.” He said pulling a stool out for her and gesturing for her to sit “I could barely hear you.”
He turned to order her a drink and then turned to look at her. He was fantasy hot, almost intimidating if she was being honest. Guys like him didn’t bother with girls like her, and yet here he was buying her a drink and sitting across from her.
“I’ve never seen this place so crowded.” She remarked glancing around before looking back at him “I didn’t realize hockey was this big of a deal here.”
He grinned “Oh yeah? You don’t like hockey?”
“It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t know anything about it.” She smiled and he felt his stomach do a little swoop.
She was beautiful, not in the way he was normally accustomed to seeing, but beautiful all the same. It had been a long time since he’d been around girls that weren’t models, that it took him a back to see just a regular girl, but he’d be lying if he said it wasn’t refreshing. There was something about her that was so simple and natural that it made her 10,000 times more attractive to him than any model could ever be. The best thing about her is that she could be a model if she wanted, but she didn’t seem the type. Which was nice.
What made her even better was that she didn’t seem to know who he was at all. She was just a girl, accepting a drink from a guy at the bar, both of whom happened to be caught up in this Stanley Cup Championship party. She had no idea he was a hockey player, and if she did she was a great actress because she looked genuinely clueless as she watched the celebration unfold.
“You should watch it sometime.” He said offhandedly passing her the drink the bartender set on the bar top.
She shrugged “‘Maybe. I don’t like violence though. Seems kind of dangerous and risky.”
“Not a risk taker?”
“Me?” She shook her head and leaned forward to sip her drink through the straw “Not at all. I don’t like risks, danger, fast cars, or this drink Ew.” She scrunched her face up “I don’t drink very often and this is why. That was terrible.”
Vince chuckled “So what do you like?”
You she thought to herself. God was he gorgeous. She’d obviously known right away that he was more attractive than your average guy but he was something else up close. He was so good looking he didn’t seem real, and maybe he wasn’t. This was her 5th drink, and she usually strictly enforced a two drink limit. For all she knew she may be hallucinating him, or this could all be a dream.
“Oh I don’t know. I’m pretty boring actually. I’m not that interesting.” That was partially true, at least in her mind. Her friends were free spirited and fun, which left her to mostly play “Mom.” She spent most of her nights out looking after her friends, and most of the time she just didn’t wanna do it. She loved them, but always having to babysit got old after a while.
“Now that I find hard to believe. Your the most interesting thing I’ve seen all night.”
She quirked an eyebrow “Oh yeah? How so?”
He gestured around “This just doesn’t seem like a place I’d find a girl like you in. I can tell your uncomfortable.”
“Okay true. I mean I’m mostly uncomfortable because my shirt is now see through, but even before then all I wanted to do was leave.” She smiled a little and shrugged, watching him as his eyes moved a third time over her shirt and then back up to her face “Nothing against a night out, it’s just not really my thing.”
“We’ll if going out isn’t your thing, how do you feel about dancing?” He jerked his head back over his shoulder to the dance floor “Is dancing your thing?”
“For you it could be.”
She followed him to the dance floor, a thrall of excitement moving through her as he turned to look behind him to make sure she was there, and then extended a hand so they didn’t get separated in the thick of the crowd. He slid his fingers in between hers and tugged her by the hand. She wasn’t a huge dancer, but she wasn’t going to say no to being that close to him. Especially when his hands settled on her waist and she was flush against him. She was thankful for the pounding music of the club to mask the pounding of her heart that was so loud she could feel it in her ears.
The alcohol was beginning to blur her senses and her nerves died down as pounding music shook the floors and reverberated into her ears. Vince’s hand was warm on her waist as they moved to the music. Josie pulled back a second to look up at him, hair spilling back over her shoulders, brushing against his hand. His other hand came up to her shoulder, finger tracing across her collarbone as he pushed the rest of her hair over her shoulder. He stared at her for a long moment, eyes moving from hers, to her mouth back up to her eyes.
And then he was kissing her, right there in the middle of the dance floor while people yelled and carried on around them. It was a kiss unlike any other she’d ever had. It sent a butterfly that went from her lips all the way down to her lady parts and stayed there flapping away.
Next thing she knew they were making out in the back of an Uber, and then stumbling into his apartment. She usually had a strict rule of not going home with guys she just met, for self preservation purposes, but he was just too beautiful to be a serial killer. And if he was, then she hoped the sex was good before he decided to murder her.
Her shirt, which was stiff from the dried champagne on it went first, thrown haphazardly to the side as they grabbed at each other in their haste to get rid of clothes between them. Then his shirt and pants, her skirt, both their shoes until finally they were both down to their underwear. He grabbed at her waist and turned her, both of them landing on his mattress, hands all over each other.
Josie’s whole body was shaking in anticipation as his hand moved down her waist, and slid slowly in between her legs. She closed her eyes as she felt Vince’s tongue slide across the skin of her neck, teeth grazing her skin. She let a breath as he bit down on her collarbone, pelvis grinding up against her own as he settled between her legs. He looked up, a lock of hair hanging across his forehead and smiled at her, lips moving down her chest and to her abdomen. She could feel his hot breath somewhere near her belly button and propped herself up to look at him.
The muscles in his shoulders rolled under his skin as he moved slowly down and pressed an open mouth kiss on her lower stomach. She shivered and watched as he ran a finger over the band of her underwear. He glanced up again, eyes piercing her soul. He never broke eye contact as he let his mouth ghost over the fabric of her underwear. She gasped, arms becoming rigid as he did it again, mouth pressing more firmly against the fabric. Her head fell back and she clamped her eyes shut. If this was what normal sex was like, she’d been missing out.
She felt her stomach flip flop as he pulled both legs up and propped himself up on his elbows. He splayed a hand across her stomach and gave her waist a squeeze.
“Can I take these off?” He said, giving the waist band a small snap. Josie nodded and lifted her hips so he could slide them down her legs. The apartment was mostly dark, which she was thankful for as she felt blood rush to her face, and heat creep through her body as he pulled them over her feet, tossing them to the side. It was illuminated enough however, both by the city lights and the full moon that was beaming through the window, that she could see him clearly enough as he leaned down again, finger tracing up her leg to her inner thigh.
“Vince I-“ she said shakily, but he gave her leg a reassuring squeeze.
“Shhhhh. Let me take care of you.” He said lowly, with a small smile as he leaned down to kiss her inner thigh. She felt like she was going to explode, by the time he made his way back up her body. A thin sheen of sweat had now covered both of them, she felt his abdomen brush against her own and realized he had come back up to be level with her face. She had been so preoccupied with his activities between her legs she hadn’t even noticed he stopped. He kissed her heavily, leaving a wet trail around her mouth, and kicking his boxers down his legs. He pulled away and let out a huff, leaning over her to pull open a bedside drawer and gosh put a condom. He opened it with his teeth, and rolled it on, pushing her legs open wider.
She closed her eyes as he slid a hand across her chest and up her neck, resting on her jaw.
“Hey.” She opened them to find him staring at her “Ready?”
She nodded and took a deep breath, glancing down between them but he pushed her head up “Look at me.”
She shivered as he pushed in slowly at first, head falling forward as he pulled out and pushed in more firmly. While Josie wouldn’t consider herself “inexperienced”, she felt it at that moment. He definitely knew what he was doing and for the first time in her life she was worried about her performance.
But she had little time to think more about it because Vince grabbed her left leg and pulled it up, pushing back in, causing her to gasp. He grinned and did it again, finding a rhythm.
Josie felt like she was on fire. Her whole body was in sensory overload, and she felt almost feverish. But it felt good. In fact she felt better than she had in a long time. He let go of her leg and and leaned forward, kissing her heavily. She gripped his shoulders, nails digging into his skin as he continued to move in and out, agonizingly slow. His fingers came around her throat and he squeezed lightly, as her eyes slid closed and she arched her back off the bed.
He kissed her throat, and up the side of her face till he found her mouth, stealing her air as he moved his lips roughly against hers as he pushed harder and faster. Josie let out a ragged breath and bit her lip to hold in a scream, fingers gripping the sheets.
“Scream.” He whispered in her ear, hot breath tickling the side of her neck. He threaded a hand through her hair and gave it a tug, cranking her neck back, which made her illicit a gasp and a moan. He smiled down at her “Good girl.” He whispered tugging on it again.
Josie felt the beginnings of what turned out to be a blinding, toe curling orgasm that made her scream as it roared through her body, making her shake. Vince rode it out, face buried in her neck.
Her eyes closed and opened several times to find him staring at her.
“You okay?” He ran a hand over her chest and up her neck, thumb stroking her jaw. She smiled sweetly at him and touched his cheek, nodding and pulling him down to kiss her.
He pulled out and laid next to her, attempting to catch his breath. He glanced over at her. The light was only illuminating her silhouette in the darkness of his apartment, but she looked perfect. She rolled on her side to face him and smiled.
Her eyes slid closed and she stretched, letting out a breath. He could see her glancing around and she made a move to get up and before he could stop himself he blurted out “Do you wanna stay?”
She stopped, sheet pulled up around her chest before he continued “Its pretty late and it just started to rain.” He nodded at the window, which indeed had raindrops beginning to form on it.
“I mean. Sure I guess? If you want.”
He gave her a once over, and smiled. Sheet pulled up around her chest, face flushed, hair tousled around her shoulders and back, hell yeah he wanted her to stay “I do.” He reached forward and let his hand run down her shoulder, before pulling her over and kissing her, which went on for several minutes before he pulled away.
He was exhausted, eyes barely able to stay open.
“Go to sleep.” She murmured, kissing him once on the cheek before settling in next to him. He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer and then they both promptly fell asleep.
**********
Josie woke up, blinking several times before she realized she wasn’t in her own apartment. It was still dark, and her body felt tired, but that didn’t stop her from easing her way out of bed. She moved slowly, inch by inch out of bed, until she felt her feet touch the carpet. She slid out of bed, crouching on the floor and feeling around for her bra, slipping it on and then her crunchy shirt, which reeked of champagne.
“Ew.” She whispered holding her breath as she pulled it over her head and turned to look for her underwear. She heard Vince cough and turn in his sleep and she froze, until it was silent again.
“Where the fuck are they?” She hissed to herself, crawling across the floor, hand sweeping out until she felt the lace brush her fingers. She slowly pulled them on, then her pants and crawled across the floor on her hands and knees, grabbing her shoes and crawling out the door. She straightened up, catching her balance and tiptoed through the apartment, hoping to god he didn’t have a roommate that she would run across. The apartment was huge, and she almost got lost as she tried to remember how to get out. She hadn’t really been paying attention on the way in, but she breathed a sigh of relief when she finally found the door and eased it open, before pulling it shut behind her. She kept her head down as she made her way to the elevator, and last a few straggling people in the lobby part of the apartment building, hoping her walk of shame wasn’t evident, and into an Uber. Her phone said it was 5:15 as she leaned her head back, eyes closing. The woman behind the steering wheel glanced at her but didn’t say anything except to have a good day when she pulled up to Josie’s apartment.
She trudged up the steps, dropping her shoes and keys by the door, and shedding her clothing as she made her way to her bedroom. She landed on her bed like a zombie, and fell fast asleep.
**********
“You whore!” Jennifer said throwing herself down and pointing at Josie “Tell me EVERYTHING.” She slapped her hand on the table getting the attention of the rest of the group.
She frowned and glanced at the others “Everything about what?”
“About this.” She held up her phone and Josie’s mouth fell open. There, on a public news website was a picture of her and Vince, kissing, over top of the title “Blues celebrate Stanley Cup win.”
“So can you explain what your doing in this photo?”
The others leaned around all letting out a gasp and an excited squeal.
“What does it look like I’m doing
“Wait a second. You went home with Vince Dunn?” Allison said open mouthed.
Josie frowned “Yeah? Do you know him?”
“Yeah but the question is why don’t you know him?”
“Should I?”
“His team just won the Stanley cup so probably.”
“Wait hang on pause.” Josie waved her hand “You mean HE won the Stanley cup.”
“Yeah he plays for the Blues. Is today your first day on earth?”
“I don’t watch hockey how was I supposed to know who he is.”
Jennifer picked up her phone out and typed something on the screen and then turned her phone so Josie could see it. There he was. Vince Dunn, defenseman for the St. Louis blues.
Josie was a little surprised. She’d talked with him for a while and he hadn’t once mentioned he played hockey. To her, he was just a guy in a bar who happened to be there at the same time she was. He hadn’t used “I’m a Stanley cup champion“ as a line not one time.
Then again though she supposed he didn’t need to use any lines when he was walking around looking like that.
“Did you get his number?”
“For what?”
“To see him again idiot.”
“It was a one time thing. I’ll probably never even see him again.”
“Ugh!” Allison said waving her hand “Your the worst. You go home with an NHL player and you don’t even get his number.”
Josie shrugged and pulled her phone up, zoning out from the rest of the conversation.
An NHL player.
It was almost too unbelievable to be true, but it had to be because there was a picture of them kissing that was now making the social media rounds, and it was clearly him in the google photos she’d just seen. It was only fitting that on the rare occasion she decided to go home with someone, it would be a professional athlete of all things. And one who had just won what appeared to be a pretty prestigious trophy from what she understood.
She wanted nothing more than to leave her lunch early and google Vince until her thumbs hurt, but she’d promised her girlfriends lunch, so she would just have to wait till later. She stuffed her phone in her bag, and turned back to the conversation with her friends, putting Vince in the back of her mind.
************
“Have you seen this?” Brayden’s voice jarred Vince from his daydream as he shoved his phone in his face. It was pictures of Vince mid make out with Josie his mystery girl from last night.
“That’s gonna be fun to explain to your mom.” Sammy giggled from his left. Vince blushed and rolled his eyes.
“Fuck off. You can’t even tell that’s me.”
“Bro it made the news of course people know it’s you.”
Vince closed his eyes and leaned his head back. He was so hungover he was still drunk. He woke up with a splitting headache, alcohol oozing out of his pores and found his bed empty, much to his dismay. He thought for a second he had dreamed her but now he’d seen newsworthy photos of himself with his tongue down her throat so he knew she was real.
“Dunner. Are you planning on joining us during this parade or-?”
Vince rolled his eyes and took the beer that was being held out to him.
“He’s here but his head and the rest of him is still in bed with that chick. What was her name Jennifer? Jessica?” Schwartzy said eyebrows furrowing in thought.
“Josie. Her name was Josie. And I’m not thinking about her. I’m just hungover.” He mumbled.
He was lying. He was thinking about Josie. Though he wasn’t really a “friends with benefits” kind of guy he might change that for her. He usually hooked up with a girl and then maybe if it was alright hooked up with her again but usually not more than twice. He’d made the mistake a few times of keeping girls around too long and they always caught feelings. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt someone’s feelings because he was only interested in sex, and they were interested in more than that. Last night had been great enough to sober him up, and apart from the good sex he actually really enjoyed talking to her. She was smart and funny and she had absolutely no clue who he was.
He wanted to kick himself in his own ass for not getting her number and letting her slip out without even getting her last name. He was delighted and a little surprised to find a long list of Josie’s in a 50 mile radius but immediately deflated when he found that none of them were his Josie.
The parade was large and loud, and his excitement overrode his disappointment about Josie. There would be plenty of time to find her later.
Right now he had a cup to celebrate.
He would find her later.
**********
Josie made her way out of Target bags in hand, and unlocked her car. She had planned to go home, immerse herself in a boiling hot bubble bath, and have a long sleep after her night of no sleep the day prior. She sighed, mind floating back to Vince. She’d made the choice to not google him, because really what was the point? She’d protons er see him again and there was no good reason to learn more about a guy who she wasn’t planning on having any type of relationship with. What she had done the night before she never did. Like never ever. It had been kind of exciting to break the rules though if she was being honest. But that was over now and she was back to being boring old Josie, who never went home with random guys.
“So you are real?”
Josie jumped, and then turned at that all too familiar voice and found Vince making his way towards her. She smiled and closed her car door and small jolt of excitement surging through her. What kind of a coincidence was it that he was here right now. She silently thanked the father, the son, the Holy Ghost, and every other diety that came to mind as he came to a stop in front of her.
“Last time I checked. You can pinch me if you want.” She extended an arm. He smiled but looked like he wanted to do a whole lot more than pinch her.
“I thought maybe I’d dreamt last night because there was no way you just fucked my brains out like that and then bounced.”
Josie’s mouth fell open for a split second and blood rushed to her face. Vince’s smile widened and he braced an hand on the top of her car, and leaned his head forward a little. He knew exactly what he was doing to her right then. She let her eyes move over his face. She’d really missed out on some of the finer details the night before.
While he was gorgeous in the glow of the neon club lights, and possibly even more gorgeous over top of her, illuminated by only the lights of downtown St. Louis, he was even better looking in the daylight. She realized she was openly staring at him and closed her mouth, clearing her throat.
“Yeah Uhm, sorry about that. I’m not good at the whole ‘morning after’ thing I guess. Just kind of figured I’d never see you again.” She laughed nervously and glanced up at him “But I guess that was unrealistic considering that you won the Stanley cup.” She smiled mischievously.
His smile faltered a little and he chuckled “Ah. Who told you?”
“My friends. They saw the pictures and had a hissy fit that I didn’t tell them I went home with a Stanley cup champion, and that I didn’t even get his number.”
“Well I guess to make your friends feel better we’re going to have to change that.”
Sometimes he was too smooth for his own good. He could feel heat radiating off of her, and everything about her body language screamed nervous, but in a good way. She kept fiddling with her hair and blushing, and he was sure he was heading in the right direction.
“Is that so?”
“It is.” He pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to her, watching as she typed in her number and handed it back to him.
“Here. For the sake of my friends I’ll give you my number.”
“So I’ll call you.” He said pushing off the car and taking a step back.
She smiled “Sure.”
He smiled and turned on his heel, and she got into her car. She had just put the key in the ignition when her phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Hey.” She looked up to find Vince leaned against his car, phone to his ear, and he gave her a wave.
“Hi Vince.” She let out a small giggle and smiled at him through her windshield, which he returned.
“What are you doing now?”
Josie smiled “Whatever your doing.”

Evgeni Malkin said he's always felt slightly overlooked.
One of the premier centers of his generation, the 37-year-old has played his NHL career as the second center on the Pittsburgh Penguins behind longtime teammate Sidney Crosby. He was the No. 2 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft. Alex Ovechkin, possibly the only Russia-born player more statistically accomplished, went No. 1 to the Washington Capitals.
Malkin doesn't mind. Actually, it's just the way he likes it.
"I'm not the kind of guy that wants media around me. I like to be quiet a little bit," Malkin said. "I want to just play the game. Probably, people want, like, my private life a little bit more. But I'm, like, a little bit closed.
"Maybe my English is not good before, not talk too much with media. Again, this is kind of myself. I'm OK with that because I know I'm a good player."
Numbers do talk, though. In his 18th season, Malkin is third in Penguins history with 1,261 points, 485 goals and 776 assists, trailing Mario Lemieux (1,723 points; 690 goals, 1,033 assists) and Crosby (1,540 points; 571 goals, 969 assists).
Ovechkin reached out after Malkin eclipsed Fedorov.
"He's a star in the League," Ovechkin said. "I think he's a tremendous player. He knows how to win. He knows how to play. It's not a surprise he has so many points, so many goals and assists."
"People are talking about Ovi a lot. They talk about (Connor) McDavid. They talk about (Nathan) MacKinnon," Letang said. "You don't hear Geno's name a lot. What he's been able to do in this league for that long and at this age still, being the goal scorer that he is, it's just special.
"I think it's always been (that way), except maybe the year he won the Hart and everything. I think it's always been a little bit like that. He's not seen to his true color."
Without Malkin, Crosby said his NHL career would have been more difficult. That pair, along with Letang, has won the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017). They qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 16 consecutive seasons together before missing them last season.
"There are nights where you don't feel great or have your best," Crosby said. "You're watching Geno do his thing out there. That's happened a lot. I think we've pushed each other over the years, but he's a guy that has always stepped up when he needs to. I think that's just the competitive nature in him.
"I think the consistency is the biggest thing. You don't have that kind of consistency without being as competitive as he is. He's been amazing for a lot of years. The stats show it."
"I think the biggest thing for me that I admire about Geno is how competitive he is," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "Just his competitive spirit is off the charts. His will to win, his want to win, and his will and want to score and produce offense. I don't think anyone likes scoring goals more than 'G.' You can see it in his raw emotion when he scores.
"Sometimes, I don't think Geno gets the credit that he deserves in the hockey world for the body of work that he's put together in this league and how talented he is. He's without a doubt one of the greatest players of all-time."
love a good geno lovefest

actually can you say more things about the octopus in detroit I have never understood it ._.
come here nonnie... let me spin u a yarn.... IMAGINE: the year is 1952 and these are our boys. noteable skaters include terry sawchuk (perhaps the nhl's most bonkers ass off the shits goalie of all time) as well as one of the most famous scoring player combinations, The Production Line (gordie howe / sid abel / ted lindsay)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
nhl playoffs were two best-of-seven games series to win the cup, so the red wings needed to win eight games to win the cup (spoiler: they do win) but to support the team, and to represent the eight games necessary to win, two fans (who were brothers & also business owners in eastern market-- detroit's largest outdoors farmer's and grocer's market--) brought a dead octopus into the arena and tossed it onto the ice of olympia arena (which has since been demolished. rip.) for good luck with the series.
and, somehow, either by magic or coincidence or sheer ferocious dedication to their sport, the red wings end up completely shutting out the montreal canadiens during the second 4 game series and winning the cup. (2 games were shutouts, and 2 games only allowed one goal, which in and of itself was record breaking stuff for the league at the time). and then they also won the stanley cup again in the next year as well.
SO SINCE then, the tradition has evolved and grown and the octopus has become an unofficial mascot for the team, while also acting as a good luck token, and also as a martyred sacrifice to invoke the hockey gods' will to change the fate of the red wings when things look dismal, or we need a wholehearted change.
in the late 1990s when the team was a fucking dynasty of unbeatable freaks, the head zamboni driver was in charge of going out onto the ice and collecting the octopi corpses, and in a hyping-up-the-crowd move, he invented the Octopus Twirl wherein he would pick it up and twirl it over his head in a circle, which is objectively very gross and kinda eehhh :-/ by todays standards, but was cool and very fun at the time. so the nhl had to shut it down because there would be little bits of octopi corpse debris scattered and schlopped around the ice and it was technically a danger for the skaters. anyways people loved this bit though and so the unofficial octopus mascot was thusly named Al, after the zamboni driver, and we had this fucking thang ⬇️ that descended down from the ceilings during playoffs just so nobody ever forgot THIS IS FUCKING HOCKEYTOWN BABEEEEYYYYYY
Tumblr media
also notably, when the joe louis arena (the team's long term arena after the olympia had been demolished) was next on the chopping block after decades of being the latest winning roster's home away from home, 35 octopi were tossed onto the ice during the last game as a farewell but also a promise that better things would come for the team. since the JLA was demolished tho, the teams luck tanked a lot and we have not been even remotely good for quite a few years due to UM, A LOT OF THINGS, WHICH IS ANOTHER ESSAY I CAN WRITE FOR YOU, but finally the team is getting genuinely competitive and fun to watch again. but regardless of this flop era behavior, there have still definitely been octopi getting tossed onto the ice because well... we love the team despite it all and always want the best for them !
🥅🏒🐙
hope this helps mwah mwah mwah

agree to disagree - hayden christensen
Tumblr media
hayden christensen x gn!reader
word count: 1k 🎧 hayden playlist
summary: you and your boyfriend hayden cheer for different hockey teams, which leads to some playful arguments
warnings: none just fluff, reader is a seattle fan but honestly you could imagine any other nhl team besides the leafs, slightly suggestive at the end maybe
being canadian, hayden had always been a hockey fan, and always a toronto maple leafs fans at that; some of the most stubbornly dedicated fans there were in the national hockey league. while you hadn’t always been as invested in the sport as he was, your casual enjoyment was enough for you to watch games with him at the start of your relationship, and he was happy to see you fall in love with it as he had. the only problem was you hadn’t exactly fallen in love with the same team he had, instead declaring yourself a seattle fan after watching them play.
tonight was one of the odd times each season that your respective teams would be playing eachother, which always made things interesting for you and hayden.
“listen you know the deal; i can be a good sport and cheer them on when they’re playing any other team…” hayden smiled, while setting down a selection of snacks and drinks for during the game.
“i understand- they’ve brainwashed you from a young age into thinking they’re a good team to cheer for. there’s no hope for you now,” you teased, sitting down on the loveseat and flipping to the right channel. he shook his head but laughed, smiling as he sat next to you.
“yeah and remind me again, what was your team doing back then? oh right, they didn’t exist yet.”
“yeah- whatever. when was the last time the leafs won the stanley cup?” you smiled, and he nodded jokingly, leaning in to give you a kiss. you smiled against his lips, enjoying the playful competitiveness that hockey brought out in the both of you.
the game was off to a rough start for your team, with the leafs quickly gaining the lead and keeping it through most of the first. you had curled into hayden’s side, his arm over your shoulders.
“we can still put money on this if you want to,” he smiled, kissing the top of your head.
“i thought canadians were supposed to be nice-“
“i know i know, i’m sorry.”
“that’s more in character,” you laughed, leaning into his chest as his arms wrapped around you.
you groaned as mitch marner scored his third goal of the game for toronto, and hayden tried not to laugh at your reaction.
“he hasn’t scored in 9 games and now he has a hat trick-“
“someone’s starting to sound like a sore loser-“
“yes, well it’s very nice that he’s remembered how to play, but he could’ve waited until tomorrow,” you whined, and this time hayden couldn’t hold back his laughter, his chest shaking as he buried his face in the crook of your neck.
“you’re funny.”
“i hate you for getting me into hockey.”
hayden laughed again as he peppered kisses up the side of your neck.
“you love me and you know it.”
“i know, i know,” you sighed, tangling your fingers in his curls and pulling his head upwards to bring his lips to yours. he returned the kiss before placing a gentle one on the end of your nose, before you both turned your attention back to the game.
seattle managed to tie the game near the end of the third, and the teams stayed tied through overtime, until eventually the maple leafs won in the shootout. obviously happy that his team had won but still trying to be a good sport, hayden kept his celebrations minimal.
“do you want me to be supportive or to just shut up?” hayden asked, rubbing your back.
“go ahead and gloat, you earned it,” you caved, knowing you would want to cheer if your team had won.
“thank you baby,” he smiled, kissing you softly, watching his team celebrate their win on the tv. you tidied up some of the dishes from the snacks and drinks scattered around the living room and placed them in the kitchen. hayden walked up behind you, his arms snaking around your waist and his chin resting on your shoulder.
“i’m sorry.”
“you’re sounding canadian again,” you teased, trying not to be too upset about the result of the game; after all, you’re team had still gotten a point for making it to overtime, so it wasn’t a total loss. hayden placed soft kisses up the side of your neck, and you spun around to face him, trapped between his arms and the kitchen counter. your hands cradled either side of his jaw as you brought his mouth to yours, tugging at his bottom lip gently with your teeth. a groan rumbled in his throat as his hips pressed against yours, his hands landing on either side of your waist as your fingers tangled in his curls once again.
“let me cheer you up,” hayden mumbled, his forehead pressing against yours as your eyes met. you nodded slightly, and hayden helped you up to sit on the counter, positioning himself to stand between your legs. already missing his lips on yours, you pulled him closer again, moaning slightly as his hand gently gripped your throat.
“hay…” you whispered as he pushed you back slightly, your wet lips parted as you stared up at him.
“remind me again though,” he raised an eyebrow. “who’s team won tonight?” he asked, a smirk on his face as you pouted.
“don’t be mean-“
“awww, is someone a sore loser?” he asked, wrapping your legs around his waist as he tugged your body closer.
“i thought you said you were gonna cheer me up?” you asked, and he placed a kiss on your lips.
“i know baby, i’m only teasing, i’m sorry-” you interrupted him with another kiss.
“you’re apologizing again,” you teased, and he brushed your hair out of your face.
“well, look where i’m from, it’s in my nature.”
you laughed, kissing him softer this time.
“i love you,” you smiled.
“i love you too.”
“more than the leafs?” you raised an eyebrow, and hayden laughed, resting his forehead against you collarbone before looking up at you, a look of pure adoration in his blue eyes.
“maybe just a little bit more.”
