I think I've recovered enough from watching the episode to actually say something about it, or at least more than I managed right afterwards.

I loved it.

It's great to see chibi-ish!Ruby used for comedic effect again, for the first time since Volume 1 I think. First acting playfully mad with Yang, and then in her excitement at the boba.

On that note, it's great to see and hear Ruby excited again. It's impressive how high her voice can go without breaking, especially considering Ruby's VA's normal voice seems to be lower pitched than Yang's voice.

I'm not surprised Ruby's uncomfortable with the cult that has sprung up around her message to Remnant. She always wanted to be a normal girl, if one who became a huntress, which is a fairly normal thing in Remnant. Especially for someone born to a family of them.

It's good to see that refugees from Patch can set up their business in Vacuo, and even better that it lets Yang and Ruby carry on the tradition they had before Beacon. That it was something they did with Tai also ended up revealing why he isn't there with them: he's on assignment, according to Qrow. What is more important than being in Vacuo, where the majority of Remnant's population is gathered? And more important than being with his daughters, who he might have heard were presumed dead and miraculously reappeared.

I've seen the suggestion that Tai's guarding the Crown aka Relic of Choice, but I've also seen the great point that if that's the case and Salem finds him, there's not much he can do to stop her, no matter what his Semblance is. Although I guess Raven might feel that he's in danger and open a portal for him to escape through. It's not confirmed that's how her Semblance works, but it explains how she knew when Yang needed saving in Volume 2.

Anyway, back to Yang and Ruby! I love that Yang brought up what happened in the Ever After. That she's understands, or at least understands enough after what Yang herself has been through, and the important thing she gets across to Ruby is that she's not alone. That she's not going to carry the weight of leading them alone. Not anymore.

It's also important that they've figured out a code word to signal that Ruby needs help, because she doesn't always know how to reach out. I figure that they will tell Blake and Weiss about that, or it could confuse them:

Ruby: "Boba!"

Weiss: ...

Blake: :3 ???

Yang: Hugs Ruby. "I'm here for you."

Weiss: "Is. Is this another weird Xiao Long-Rose thing?"

What I particularly appreciate about it is that Yang acknowledged her mistake but didn't actually apologise for it, and Ruby didn't mind that. Because the important thing isn't saying sorry, it's changing things so that Ruby never feels that alone again. Actions speak louder than words.

It's also equally important that Ruby recognised she still has issues saying when she needs help. They're a team and they need to work together.

It just reinforces RWBY's message of hope, and to keep moving forward, and that no one is perfect but that they learn from their mistakes.

Also that last line kinda hints that Ruby likes to go shopping with Yang, but they haven't got around to it. Shopping for new outfits, perhaps?

is no one else feeling complicated and kinda upset at the changes the show is making to the relationship dynamic with Louis, Claudia and Lestat?

they were always fucked up but not in this way? I feel like they are making Lestat more unlikeable on purpose? He was a dick in IWTV but not even this bad. he never beat Louis. Louis never acted like a battered wife. Claudia never acted like a child of abuse.

It was interesting because the toxicity in their relationships derived entirely from them being vampires, being immortal, killing humans and struggling with all that comes with being a vampire. Louis struggled with killing and eternity, Lestat was desperate to not be alone and a brat abt it, and Claudia was a child who never should have been turned.

I'm just tired of Lestat now being a domestic abuser and a racist master to them now??? And don't get me started on him being a cheater with Antoinette. Antoinette wasn't in the books either.

I just want the showrunners to explain it to me???

I would love the show if it wasn't supposed to be IWTV. The domestic abuse scene was powerful to watch, but it wasn't my Lestat and Louis.

Watching the Junji Ito Maniac episode "Mold", and as far as I can tell so far, it looks like it's based on the visceral terror of real life black mold taking over your house until you can afford to fix it or move

and frankly literally nothing else scary needs to happen this is the scariest story he's ever written

♡ You ended up in hell after a sleepover with your friends, where they were playing around with an old book of portals they found and went too far. You were the one singled out and thrown in and now you have absolutely no way of going back.

♡ You heard of the Hazbin Hotel and how they were trying to redeem sinners and figured that was your best shot at being safe and finding a way to get back to Earth, so that's how you ended up there.

♡ Charlie was not only excited to show her father her hotel and hopefully get some support, but maybe also get some input on how she could help you.

♡ You and Lucifer met when he first visited the hotel.

♡ You were very nervous about it; you weren't sure what kind of man the king of Hell would be.

♡ But the second he burst into the room and greeted Charlie with a big hug, you relaxed significantly.

♡ He went on to greet Keekee, then Razzle and Dazzle, then Vaggie before he saw you.

♡ He looked instantly surprised to see you, then confused.

♡ He asked Charlie, very bluntly, what a human was doing in Hell of all places.

♡ You stepped in, introduced yourself as kindly and smoothly as you could to the literal king of Hell, and explained how you got there.

♡ Sleepover, creepy old book, bad friends, Hell.

♡ The day went on and Lucifer found interest in you.

♡ Not only were you a human in Hell, but you were so considerate there was no way you even deserved to be there.

♡ Lucifer watched your interactions with the others with something swelling in his chest. He could barely work up the nerve to talk to you himself, he wanted you to treat him the way you were treating them, but he didn't feel confident that he could be normal under that attention.

♡ When it was finally time for him to leave, Lucifer was surprisingly reluctant.

♡ Even with Alastor up his butthole about being like Charlie's new dad, Lucifer wasn't certain when he'd see you again.

♡ He couldn't exactly just find you wandering around the pride ring. And when was the next time he would be invited to the hotel?

♡ But, eventually he left, with a plan to make more excuses to visit the hotel.

♡ He stuck true to his gut and did visit, getting closer to Charlie and you in the process.

One thing you quickly learned about Matt when you two started dating was that he absolutely loved to be close to you at all times. Especially back hugs.

It didn’t matter where you were, or what you were doing. He’d always find a way to do it. It was sweet - the fact that even when you were doing other activities, he still wanted to be as near to you as possible.

There were countless examples of this.

𝟏. You were standing in the fruit and vegetable aisle, trying to find the most ripe ones to bring home. Matt had disappeared somewhere with Nick and Chris, so when a pair of arms snaked their way around you, you were confused.

“Hey,” Matt’s voice muttered as he rested his chin against your shoulder.

You visibly relaxed as you turned to look at him.

“Hey,” you replied, “I’m almost ready to go, I just wanna get a few apples.”

He mumbled a quiet ‘mhm’ as he watched your hands put the fruit in a bag, admiring how much care you were putting into such a mundane activity.

You smiled to yourself as you felt Matt squeeze you close to him. Normally he wouldn’t be so affectionate in public - but when he was tired he tended to be clingy.

This was the first time you experienced one of Matt’s classic back hugs.

𝟐. You were over at Matt’s house, helping him cook dinner. It wasn’t anything difficult - just pasta. However he insisted that you do it together, using anything as an excuse to spend time together.

You were stirring the water softly, the steam rising to your face, burning your skin slightly.

“Ow,” you said while backing away from the pot; only to be met by a hard, fleshy wall. Matt was already there, enveloping his arms around you.

“You okay?”

He walked you back to the pot, making sure to move your head away from the steam. Replacing your head with his, he placed his head on your shoulder. Using one hand to stir, the other was inching towards your stomach under your shirt, his fingers tracing random patterns as he hummed contently.

Your back was safely pressed against his chest and the vibrations from his hums could’ve made you fall asleep if you weren’t so busy cooking.

𝟑. It had been a long day. Matt had finished recording a new podcast episode, and you had been cleaning your house from top to bottom.

It was safe to say you both were wrecked.

Arriving to his house, you noticed that him, Nick, and Chris weren’t home yet. Crawling into his bed, you decided to wait for them to finish their work. You didn’t even notice that you fell asleep in his t-shirt, the smell of his cologne easing you to sleep easily.

You were awoken by a pair of warm arms pulling you closer. You could feel Matt bury his face in your hair, pressing your back to his chest like he always did.

“You look good in my shirt,” he said, the sleepiness in his voice becoming evident in the way he slurred his words.

“Mm..” you mumbled incoherently. “Missed you.”

“Missed you too,” he said, nuzzling impossibly deeper into your warmth.

“Love hugging you like this. Y’so soft.” And with that, his eyelids grew heavier and he fell into a comfortable sleep.

You had the best sleep ever that night.

Now as you stood over the two cups of hot chocolate on your counter with Matt in his pyjamas behind you, his signature hug was encasing you in warmth.

It was your first Christmas together. Matt’s gentle touch tickled your sides as he caressed your waist from behind - and Nick and Chris’ laughs could be heard coming from the living room.

You never felt more at home.
