but whoop there might be swearing so be warned (yes there is swearing not so much but yeah its there) and bad spelling

SO??? Im terrible at math right (lol who isnt) and im over here crying bc what the fuck does m represent?? There isnt anything telling me wer just have to guess??? And im just dying doing hw and my dad comes in and is liek

Oh ur just not trying or some shit and im over here crying bc what the furick does this mean whey are there so many differentnt formulas that i just have to know and memorise and my teacher doesnt explain wh y and thats something i need to know like whY is it like htis why doesnt this work and my dad just thinks that bc hes good at math im gonna be to and like thats not how anyting works

So i finally convince him to get me a tuter and now he makes fun of me for it?? Like he wants to tuter me himself but he dpent know what were working on and how and he just overcomplecates what i nened to know and i cant tell him to just leave bc thats talking back or some shit and he just gets al up into my space and breathes down my back

And who cares what fanfic peole say that shit is unconfortable and i d o n o t like it and he just laughs and doens trespect that im unconfortable with that much contact from him?? Like ive had teachers inthe past that are older and male and they just get into my space like rn i havfe one that just /stares/ at girls boobs (oh no i said the b word whats tumblr gonna do fight me?) and he dows that to me and im just like pleas eno and he makes me talk to him after class when i dont to an assignment and doesnt let my friends come to ya know keep me safe and its jsut so unfonfortable

My mom decided it would be a good idea to take us to family councaling and im like sure bc my councerer is super helpful but anyway after the first session and we just reviewed how are lives were and why we were there my dad was like

Oh yeats another thing he thinks that i run away when i just take a second to breathe and colelct my thoughts but noNoOOoOooOO i havfe to stay steeming until i explode and yell

Anyway i tried explaining that yeah thats basically waht a councerer/ therapist is, they help you figure out what needs to be done and they cant do taht without background or you being open to it

That was a few weeks ago and last week he waws like??? Its stupid that we cant just talk like htis on our own??

And im just like what? So waht? -counceler- hellps us stay on the right track and keeps us from snapping at eachother?? Who cares if we cant talk normaly at home with serious discussions, hwere its easier bc we have an outside source and that just helps in a why i dont think he understands

Oh yeah ok so im sick rn and i had to cancel tutering and im prepairing for finals and im rlly stressed bc he would help me a l o t but nooOOOO my imune system wants me to die or whatever

And in language we have this shitty presentation with no speeker notes and its like four minutes long and idk what i have to do bc ya know i was ogne on the day they assigned it (yesterday bc i was sick) and im to anxious to ask and none of my friends have the same topic as me and the topics define the deadline and its due to morrow and i have so much work to do (lol laurens interlude am ii right)

I Been Thinkin.... what would happen if feferiquest acutally, yknow, happened?

some thoughts + a complete walkthrough of everything that happened as soon as aranea got the ring of life + everything that WOULD happen if feferi replaced aranea

it’s Extremely Long. read at your own risk

cause okay here’s what happened:

- aranea got the ring of life, keeping gamzee as something of a servant

- she moved the golden battleship, alerting crockertier jane and grimbark jade to the strange circumstances

- she “healed” jake, forcing him into his full potential as a page of hope (allowing roxy to escape her dersian prison)

- jade tries (and fails) to zap jake’s hopesplosion away, so she switches the locations of derse and lofaf

- karkat alerts dave to the problem

- jade calls upon the power of the green sun to fight jake’s hopesplosion, but starts getting pushed through the surface of her own planet. eventually she loses the battle and skips across the surface of the lava lake that has now appeared, having been ko’ed

- aranea topples jade’s house onto her, killing her justly, but only thanks to a lucky 8r8k

- dave and rose start heading to lofaf

- jane goes to jade, intending to resurrect her, but is jumped by gamzee

- aranea reveals her knowledge of roxy’s presence. they speak briefly, and roxy tries to convince aranea to give her the ring so they can give it to callie before aranea knocks her out so she won’t meddle

- (callie and jade meet up and hang out and its very fun and sweet)

- dave arrives and sees all the Bull Shit thats going on

- brain ghost dirk (bgd) suddenly becomes Not Fake thanks to jake’s hopesplosion

- he begins to fight aranea just as terezi arrives to fight gamzee, leaving jane free resurrect jade BUT

- pm and bec noir arrive and take jade’s body. dave is there, freaking out. jane summons gcat to distract pm and bec noir, intending for them to drop her, but they... don’t. rip. dave chases after them to get jade’s body back

- bgd says “If I can’t get the ring off your finger, I’ll rip the soul out of your body” and it’s extremely metal and he starts ripping aranea’s soul out of her body

- this causes jake’s hopesplosion to dissipate, which causes bgd to start becoming Fake again

- rose takes the sleeping roxy out of the way. terezi continues to fight gamzee

- jane spears jake with her trident, killing him and ReFakening bgd completely. aranea’s soul gets back in her body all the way, also breaking her mind control of gamzee

- aranea knocks out jane, whose sleeping body (controlled by the tiaratop) begins to fight back anyway. meanwhile, gamzee starts to fight terezi now that he isn’t being mind-controlled

- jake resurrects from his death, which was neither just nor heroic. aranea starts to try to lift dirk’s sword so she can kill jane with it

- rose sees gamzee p much killing terezi and is like “fuck i hope this isn’t a blackrom thing... wait is it?” and like, he’s fucking killing her girl, get down there

- terezi and skaia fall into the lava just as karkat and kanaya finally arrive

- gamzee just manages to catch terezi, and it’s at this point that rose and jake (who are both jsut standing there useless) finally try to get involved

- battleship condescension arrives

- a6a6a3 happens

- [S] Game Over happens, which i’m also gonna break down:

- karkat rushes gamzee, who drops terezi, stabs karkat, and throws him into the lava

- aranea shoots bgd’s sword at jane, but jake jumps in front of her and is stabbed through the middle. meanwhile dave is fighting both pm and bec noir. aranea then stabs jane with the sword that still has jake impaled on it

- kanaya cuts gamzee in half

- the condesce fires her laser psionics all around, knocking terezi back onto solid ground and vaporizing kanaya. dave is double impaled by pm and bec noir (heroic). jake’s death is ruled heroic, and jane’s is ruled just.

- this is where people start throwing planets around. aranea grabs lolar and smashes the battleship condescension between lolar and lofaf. she then grabs locah, but the condesce retaliates by grabbing lohac and smashing it into locah

- rose rushes at the condesce, who stabs her with her 2x3dent. terezi rushes at aranea, who mind controls the former into stabbing herself with her own sword. the condesce aims her laser psionics at rose, but roxy void-ifies them both and saves rose at the last second. END OF [S] Game Over

- the condesce pops the ring of life off of aranea’s hand and breaks her neck, throwing her into the fire (a just death).

- john FINALLY zaps in w/ his retcon powers. he explores the destruction for a bit, meets dirk (who immediately Emo(tm)s at him and then dies via glitch consumption)

- john, rose, roxy and terezi all meet up on roxy’s planet and plan out the retcon and terezi has the most hardcore moment in the entire comic where she draws the outline of her own body on the ground moments before her death and then falls into it, finally dying

- rose dies and it’s heroic. forgot to mention that

- and of course roxy and john meet their denizens and all that shit and we discover that the jade who has been with callie has been the post-retcon jade this whole time

and okay. god this is a long post but like. assuming feferi gets her hands on the ring of life in a similar fashion. probably she couldn’t pull whatever strings the condesce did to get her mind control powers, but she might be able to make vriska do a couple things for her. but lets say she gets the ring of life and appears in the real world in the same place and at the same time as aranea did.

- honestly, feferi could potentially heal terezi’s eyes similar to how aranea did cause of her aspect. so even that would be the same.

- anyway. she could really get the ring from any alive person, and i don’t feel like tracking its progress through the people right now. whatever happens, she wakes up with whatever alive person she got the ring from and since she’s feferi, probably thanks them. maybe she says something like. fuckin.

FEFERI: I admit I don’t )(ave much to t)(ank you fis)( rig)(t now, but s)(orely t)(e reward of saving t)(e universe will suffice!

or something like that. you know how aranea had her dumb lines.

- she wouldn’t be able to move the golden battleship unless she had sollux or aradia with her, which is actually pretty plausible, since they were hanging out together last time we saw them iirc. maybe aradia was even how she got the ring. so, okay, say she has one of them move the golden battleship over to derse so she can awaken jake’s hopesplosion, and that alerts jane and jade that somefin’s not right.

- she probably doesn’t try to kiss jake? in terms of jake’s arc that made sense but in terms of hers it really doesn’t i don’t think. but she heals him and he hopesplodes and roxy escapes. jade does her thing, which tips karkat off that something’s wrong. she ends up getting ko’ed and causing some destruction.

- this is where feferi’s motivation actually starts to matter. lemme see what i remember lol. her thing is that she knows best, right? and like aranea realized, it would technically be for the greater good across the universes if lord english was never able to be created. so i think it makes sense for her to have almost the same motivation as aranea.

- in this case, i think feferi could be a lot more efficient than aranea was, and just use her witch of life powers to kill jade rather than inelegantly tipping a house onto her (again, thematically funny, but logically... lame).

- so jane would then go try to resurrect jade, but in this case it might be sollux or aradia who interrupts her. they probably wouldn’t go straight for fighting her, but jane might initiate that fight since she’s crockertier. let’s say it’s aradia, since she has a weapon, unlike sollux. she’s, like, slightly less op.

- as for roxy? i dont think any of them would be able to know where she is, since none of them are mind readers, seers, or light players. feferi technically inverts to a seer, but i don’t think she’s inverted, so we won’t count that. so she can actually stay invisible. maybe she meets up with rose and dave when they arrive.

- anyway, bgd becomes Not Fake and starts fighting feferi, who (unlike aranea) isn’t unarmed. i feel like feferi could totally take dirk, not gonna lie. so he probably gets his ass whooped for a bit.

- terezi arrives and i guess gamzee should too since the whole gang is here? i suppose he was on the golden ship? i dont like him. i dont want to have to track his whereabouts. terezi probably starts fighting him cause he’s a dick. unlike in canon, however, he’s not being mind-controlled, so he probably doesn’t sit there and take it.

- so dave is freaking out about jade and jane is trying to get to jade but aradia won’t let her and then pm and bec noir show up and take her body. jane summons gcat to distract them, but again, they don’t drop jade’s body. jane expresses her frustration, leading dave to chase them to get jade’s body.

- bgd gives up fighting feferi cause he’s getting his ass kicked and starts trying to rip her soul out of her body again, which makes the hopesplosion start dissipating, which makes him become Faker again

- jane spears jake, temporarily killing him and reFakening bgd. i guess instead of knocking jane out, she’d just straight up Regular Fight her. that’s another fight i think feferi could win, not gonna lie. jane’s badass but feferi toted whales around on the daily when she was alive. jake resurrects while they’re fighting.

- rose sees gamzee p much killing terezi and is like “fuck i hope this isn’t a blackrom thing... wait is it?” and like, he’s fucking killing her girl, get down there

- terezi and skaia fall into the lava just as karkat and kanaya finally arrive

- gamzee just manages to catch terezi, and it’s at this point that rose and jake finally try to get involved

- battleship condescension arrives

([S] Game Over)

- karkat rushes gamzee, who drops terezi, stabs karkat, and throws him into the lava

- let’s say feferi is winning against jane. jake intercepts the killing blow, inconveniently, and dies. she kills jane with the other end of her 2x3dent.

- kanaya cuts gamzee in half

- in canon, this is where planets get thrown around. that could technically happen now too, actually, since feferi has sollux on her side, but it could also, like... not. instead sollux could just like directly attack battleship condescension and i feel like that’d be more efficient. maybe the condesce chucks a planet at them out of spite? but idk, i felt like that was kind of far-fetched in canon anyway, like there were people on lofaf who apparently survived the planet they were on getting hit by another planet? i call bs. nah condy probably just fires at them with her laser psionics like sollux did. its not as Dramatique(tm) but it’s also, like... less dumb

- rose rushes at the condesce, who stabs her with her 2x3dent. terezi attacks feferi, deciding that this has gone on far enough, but is quickly knocked aside and stabbed with feferi’s 2x3dent. the condesce aims her laser psionics at rose, but roxy void-ifies them both and saves rose at the last second. END OF [S] Game Over

- now it’s just condy and feferi, and i think this can be a bit of a longer fight, especially since feferi still has aradia and sollux on her side (or maybe even jsut one of them? maybe she got aradia to come with but sollux couldn’t since he’s kind of dead kind of alive). but i think the condesce can still win this fight, which leaves us with a dying rose, a dying terezi, a live roxy, and john who’s about to pop in (and dirk who’s still across the incipisphere)

and then the retcon can happen and we didnt have to have 12 extra unnecessary characters, only two of which actually got any decent development in canon, despite the fact that BOTH of them couldve been replaced with feferi

(meenah couldve been replaced with an alt feferi who god-tiered and maybe even successfully created a new world before her timeline died. like. really easily.)

as long an endeavor as feferiquest would be, replacing this section of canon with feferiquest would actually make homestuck shorter, since we could almost completely remove the whole dancestor section

30. Do they dance together

YES YES YES!!! dorian helps josie teach him ballroom dancing in canon.. dorian even teaches him tevene ballroom dances even tho lemon doesnt need them for halamshiral, and lemon teaches dorian traditional dalish dances!! lemon REALLY enjoys ballroom dancing actually so whenever they go to balls/galas/etc they spend most of the night dancing shjdfh… also when theyre alone sometimes they just do that slow swaying dance to no music bc they just..both rly love dancing…it feels intimate

2. Who’s the one to send the other “I love my gf/bf” memes

theyd both do it imo but lemon sends them way more often… lemon sends any cute ones he sees but dorian is more picky and he sends really specific ones and sometimes makes his own…also he sends ones he finds in tevene jsut to confuse lemon on purpose hfdjkfg

12. What do their dates look like

DORIAN really prefers fancy dates to nice orlesian restaurants, the opera, etc that kind of stuff and lemon really enjoys that too cuz he likes expensive/fine-quality things!! lemon likes to take dorian on nature hikes and tell him about stuff like the medicinal qualities of plants they find! also sometimes they have lil comfy dates where they curl up in dorians library nook at night when no one else is around with a bunch of blankets and candles and a couple glasses of wine and some finger foods and they just read together… sometimes they read to each other too! and its usually stuff like books on magical theory and such but they both really love reading! i have the rly distinct mental image of dorian laying is head on lemons lap while lemon reads a book about like, idk, advanced necromancy techniques or something, and dorian translates all the tevene lemon comes across hfjfghdfg

32. Which one is better at cooking than the other and makes most the dinners

zevran is WAYYY better at cooking than sasha, i headcanon zevran as a super good cook (altho not very good at baking, sasha is probably better at that?) but since sasha grew up in a circle cooking wasnt really something he learned… its serviceable its not alistair-bad but its not anything special! zevran its a great cook and also loves cooking!! in a modern au itd be the same i think…i just love the image of zev cooking

11. When they live together what kinda place do they live in? What does their home look like?

i really love the idea of like… after everything is said and done, zev wraps up his shit with the crows and sasha deserts the grey wardens retires they spend the rest of their time together in a cute but actually pretty sizeable homey cottage in the ferelden countryside uh… and maybe they have a kid but yknow how warden fertility is

in a modern au i like the idea of them having their own home, like not an apartment or anything an actual house and its very cozy and Them, like they just sort of collect random stuff they like, zevran leaves knives in random places around the house (”just in case we need them") and theres little trinkets on shelves theyve picked up that remind them of each other, they have a fireplace and on the mantel is a bunch of photos of their friends + honeymoon and wedding pics, theres books everywhere, zev has a habit of collecting stuff that reminds him of antiva, all the throw pillows on the couch mismatch but they dont care cuz theyre comfy, all in all its a very nice home and zevran promises he’ll put all the knives in a safe place when they have a baby

13. How does each act when getting drunk

i see zev as being a very… dramatic drunk like the type of dude who will stand on tables, talk very loudly and tell stories about stuff he’s done, also very loudly proclaim his love for sasha if he sees him, he will flirt with basically everyone also (sasha doesnt mind, he even joins in with the flirting too if he thinks the person is cute)

sasha is one of those drunk people you wouldnt necessarily guess is drunk until he tries to walk anywhere the man CANNOT FUCKING WALK WHEN HES DRUNK he stumbles into shit and falls over a lot, but he’s pretty relaxed when he’s drunk! he can be a little quiet (he likes listening to people talk when hes drunk) but he tends to laugh more loudly than usual, also he gets really cuddly! he’ll cuddle with basically anyone and all of his group is used to it and tolerates it even morrigan and sten (morrigan is pretty good at convincing him to cuddle with someone else tho, and sometimes sten gets tired of it and picks him up to put him next to anyone else). he likes to crawl onto zevs lap and nuzzle into him while zev talks so he can feel the vibrations from his voice… if he does that for too long he’ll fall asleep tho dhfgfjd

im like very afraid that im about to be broken up with but i can’t tell if it’s me being unable to accept and internalize being told that im loved or if them telling me is actually not genuine. either way sucks a lot but it would suck more if i lov them with everything that i have, right, and they don’t love me back or don’t love me as much. and like our video call tonight, usually i start out kind of nervous and it gets better but in this case i started out really happy to see them and then at the end i was just really worried bc they wanted to go to sleep instead of talk to me which like, could it be because theyre just tired? and want to go to sleep? and have a healthy sense of self-preservation? sure! but also it COULD be that they don’t like me anymore and don’t like talking to me and it feels like an obligation that they don’t want to have to do. so i’ll probably send a message asking tonight bc even though it’s like. i dont even want to know i just kind of want to be with them for as long as possible because I love them so much?? despite that in the end i really can’t stand being in a relationship where the other person is just tolerating me. and also obviously i love them and want them to be happy and they can’t do that if theyre with me & dont want to be with me.

it just hurts bc if this is us breaking up then it comes right after i started actually feeling like i would have a relationship that lasted 6 months that was healthy & with someone i really truly love even if i don’t always know if im in love with them (which is just a facet of being me & having no sense of emotional permanence) & think is amazing in p much every way & would want to be close with even if we weren’t dating. and right after i started trying to convince myself that they truly actually do love me bc i started feeling like maybe they don’t and not just as a form of self-protection anymore. and right after i started trying to let myself love them fully. bc i again can’t stand being in a relationship if i don’t think the other person feels as much for me as i do for them so if right after i started letting myself feel everything that i feel theyre like oh whoops nah i dont feel the same....... then like........ that’s jsut going to sort of reinforce my trauma and obviously that’s not their fault but it would just suck and it will suck if that’s what ends up happening rn. this is so fucking scary i love them so much i really cant imagine not being with them at this point like they are my everything i know this seems melodramatic and maybe out of nowhere but the truth is that actually im fucking crazy and when i love someone i dont fucking hold back folx

ahh ok, osrry for the wait, i been a busy bee, but here we go!

21p is not an amount of money in the uk (ok, well it is) but it’s also a duo of two best buds named tyler joseph and josh... something with a d maybe? durran?? i feel like googling would be cheating, and admittedly i only remember tyler’s surname bc of ur thing last night lol

anyways, so they are two best buddos and one of them is really cute with his wife, i wanna say josh but it might actually be tyler.. i think wife’s name starts with a j, like jenna or jess, and theyre like really cute #relationship #goals, like best friends in love, so that is real cool and nice! (and i also know tyler has 3 younger sibs, but u are also the only reason i know this so i wont go into that )

and idk their type of music, like.. i wanna say alternative, but that is a pretty easy generalization lol. i know one song was a vid of one of them strumming a ukulele and singing on his ownsome to increasingly bigger groups, i think i reblogged it like 500 years ago without knowing who it was, but i have since remembered/recognized it, (also i think it was a cover of i cant help falling in love with u)

and their fandom is relatively smol i think, like 1d really is an anomaly compared to the rest of bandom, in terms of the amount/variety of fanworks created, even for bands i thought were really famous and stuffs it’s like way different? (i was curiously googling panic! and fob’s fandoms the other night actually and 21p popped up a few times as like a crossover thing with them, which i thought was interesting, tho i dont know how much theyre actually linked irl?)

anyways, being a smaller fandom is probos not a bad thing tho! i imagine its got a bit more cozier, intimate feel and in an ideal world there’d be an awful lot less drama too, so i hope that is the case.

i also think that 21p fanworks are less likely taken for granted bc theyre more rare, like i feel like fans are more likely to leave comments than jsut a like or a kudos, yunno? bc they really appreciate every bit they get :)

(also lol, i rlly didnt intend for this to be as long as the les mis one but whoops)

and then there’s psych, which im quite annoyed to notice has been taken off of netflix now >: (i never actually saw all of it, just watched a bunch of epis in random order)

psych centers around unofficial (im p sure? cos gus also worked at a pharmaceutical company too) detectives and life long (as shown by lots of flashbacks) bffs shawn and gus, the latter of whom shawn always comes up with super ridiculous fake names for when theyre interviewing witnesses and whatnot (his name is actually burton guster tho), but that was one of the running gags

psych is a fairly light crime show, like theres murder mysteries and whatnot, but theres also lots of good banter between the leads (esp shawn n gus) and jokes and

and their main dealio is that shawn is a psychic, even tho he actually is Not, hes just extremely observant and (sometimes) smart, and gus is in on the con too, and they work for the police station together, and theres also a cop named lassy except thats not rlly his name its a nickname but i dont rmr his actual one, and his partner julia/jules, who was in a very slow build romance with shawn over the like.. 5? 7? seasons it had, it was a good big amount, & i think it had a very good build and character development n stuff bc of that, i get the feeling it was lucky enough to have a natura run of things, im pretty sure it wasnt cancelled when it ended,like it got to do everything it wanted with the storylines n stuff before it decided to wrap up? and there was a lot of different stuff in the episodes, they werent all just typical solving mystery stuffs

but fandom wise again, i think itd be quite small in terms of fanworks produced about it? it doesnt rlly seem like the type of show to have much fanfiction written about, altho im willing to bet that shawn and gus, like any pairing involving a black guy and a white guy, dont get shipped together hardly at all despite all their screen time and chemistry together. (and yes ik julia/shawn canon, but thats never stopped shippers before, so.) actually i bet shawn and lassie are one of the bigger pairings in fanfic, tho again, i dont think psych would have much in the way of that somehow?

anyways, i rmr it was goofy but enjoyable, and there were lots of episodes that made homages to other things, actually i think im gonna go try2 find an ep to watch rn tbhh, except Not on netflix anymore i guess !

Joe’s Weather Blog: So where are the 90s? + Solar eclipse clouds? (THU-8/17)

Good afternoon…IF only today would be the day that we get the solar eclipse. It would’ve been perfect. Skies are pretty blue and clear around the area…the clarity is a bit unusual for this time of the year but thanks to a cold front that came through the region last night..the air has been scoured out of the thicker moisture and overall it’s not bad at all for this time of the year!

Forecast:

Tonight: Clear skies and pleasant with lows closer to 60° or so.

Friday: Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon storms. Some of those storms could be randomly strong (main threat some gusty winds). It’s worth monitoring just in case. Highs in the 80s

Saturday: Not too bad of a day with highs a little hotter and closer to 90°

Sunday: Perhaps an isolated storm or two…hot and humid with highs around 90°

Discussion:

It’s been an interesting summer of weather so far in the area. Lots of rain is the highlight BUT there is also another developing trend that I’m following…the lack of 90° days (overall) and also in August. Odds are we’ll get a few in there before the end of the month but it better happen sooner rather than later. Through today there hasn’t been a 90° day yet officially in KC. In 1950 and 1915 we also didn’t hit 90° (for the entire month). We’ll try to get there over the weekend though.

So far this year (through today) we hit 90° or higher 22 times. The average for the year is 40 times. Last year we accomplished this 44 times and in 2015…29 times. There are still more opportunities but it does get a bit harder getting into September. in 1936 we hit 90° or higher 90 times and in 1915 we did it the fewest times…only 4(!). Just for context…in the drought year of 2012 we hit 90°+ 69 times!

There are a variety of reasons why 90°+ has been a bit of an effort in the summer of 2017. One of the bigger reasons is the rain that the region has seen. All that rain leads to green terrain. The crops are doing very well this year…the grass is very green for the trailing end of summer in the area…in other words things look pretty lush out there thanks to all the rain. Take a look at today’s satellite pass-over…notice all the green

Now lets flash back to 2012…when we were coming to the tail end of one of the bigger droughts in the region…notice the difference?

Pretty amazing isn’t it. When the terrain is green and lust it’s releasing moisture into the air…this moisture, in the form of water vapor, increases the dew points (hence the muggies) but also tends to keep temperatures from going as high as their potential. That’s why I typically preach that when things are green and lush…it’s very hard locally for us to get to 100° on a widespread basis.

Back in 2012 though…we were dry and the ground had essentially been “baked” out. So when the sun came out, the dew points were lower (allowing cooler mornings) BUT that dry air heats up more efficiently than the moist air does this year…hence how we were able to hit 90° in the blink of an eye.

Just something random I was thinking about today when looking at the satellite images.

This year may actually give us better images like the one above because we’re using the newest satellite now called GOES 16. This will be giving us updated images every 1 minute of the shadow going across the USA.

That should be pretty neat…but what about the weather forecast.

As you know I’ve refrained from jumping onboard the crazy predictions or the CYA variable clouds forecast that were issued weeks ago. There simply isn’t the science to accurately predict what the clouds will be in a 10-20 window of time from so far out. Even today it’s not well defined in my opinion.

There are times though that you have more confidence (not this time for me) about what can happen. For example this past Sunday I had a sunny forecast for today, forecasting few clouds. This was doable because I knew a rather decent cold front for August was going to sweep through and replace a humid-tropical air mass with a drier air mass. That’s a recipe for few clouds. This was a somewhat easy forecast from several days away.

Here we are on Thursday…T-4 days and counting and I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other about Monday’s situation. I remain somewhat optimistic BUT i certainly have many concerns including lower clouds (cumulus clouds) building later in the morning…and also higher level clouds trying to filter out the sunshine as the day moves along. Clouds are a “killer” for witnessing the potential beauty of what could happen and I definitely have concerns.

I want to show you some model “guidance” of forecast clouds. There are some tweets showing the GFS model forecast circulating out there. I want to show you the EURO model forecast…let’s start with the forecast from last night…

Now the afternoon forecast from today…

Notice this model is sniffing out a rather extensive area of upper level moisture streaming up from Mexico over the weekend and transporting it in the Plains. On the optimistic side of this…cirrus cloud forecasts are notoriously too slow in coming in and going out…

Another cloud type to wonder about are cumulus clouds. These are the cotton ball looking clouds that are VERY typical during this time of the year, especially with dew points WELL into the 70s (it’s going to be ripe out there).

These are cumulus clouds…again a familiar site around these parts…

IF these were the types of clouds…and they would be that broken up in nature…then we would be OK…BUT IF those clouds develop more vertically and don’t move a lot…then some people are going to get miss out on the best views.

So I do have concerns about how the whole event plays out…and I also am highlighting the lunacy (imo) of trying to forecast a 10-20 minute window of sky cover.

Now go back to the top satellite image…the one from today…and look out towards the east of KC proper…see all that white…that is cloud cover…underneath those clouds the eclipse would be mostly ruined for folks travelling from all over. It would jsut progressively get dark…then lighter…big whoop!

Another model that can be helpful is the GFS model…and this model is getting a lot of social media play right now (however wrong it usually is). Again ALL models have a VERY difficult time handling cloud cover forecasts…

This model is shoving away the upper level clouds rather quickly but keeping a lower level cloud area right on top of the I-35 corridor.

I don’t think it’s right totally either.

My feeling is that this is going to be a rather hit or miss proposition. Some areas may get a good view…others may not because of clouds and that will lead to major disappointment for some which is VERY understandable. I saw this on twitter th other day and it made me laugh…

Speaking of clouds…there were some beauties last night associated with the departing rains and the setting sun…this picture of a beautiful double rainbow was sent to me on FB from Donna Matthes in rural Cass County

I’ll try and get a weather blog out before lunch then I’ll be off for the weekend. I may cobble something together over the weekend but I can’t promise anything.
