Evercade - Sunsoft Collection 1 Preview
Up until recently, I did not care for the Evercade. I do really like the Evercade EXP. This collection includes these games: Mr. Gimmick Also known simply as Gimmick!, this is a cult classic platformer that was only released in Japan and Scandinavia back in the day. The story concerns a mysterious toy named Mr. Gimmick (Yumetaro in the Japanese original) who is tasked with rescuing his owner…

I've now beaten this really hard (and underrated) NES game by Sunsoft called Journey to Silius, and I consider it the hardest game I've ever played for now.
If you're thinking that the final boss in this image looks like a Terminator, well that's because this game originally going to be a Terminator game before Sunsoft lost the rights to the film. That's why there is barely any plot in the game beyond the protagonist defeating terrorists to avenge his father (the terrorists don't even appear in the game and I don't even know what Silius is: a space colony? A planet?)
Ironically this game ended up being better received than the actual licensed Terminator games on NES, SNES and Genesis.

girlies love thinking of the multimedia construction of the journey to silius box art
Tumblr media
you can SEE video artifacts on this printed cardboard, they took a fucking game screenshot and either composited it onto, or just straight up printed and cut it out, onto a matte painting background, with one of those ye olde hollywoode movie magic light set ups for the solar eclipse

Not too long ago I saw people on twitter saying that “the nes sucks actually and has no good games” and personally I just went and played Journey to Silius and Blaster Master for the first time and WOW these people can’t be more wrong, these games absolutely rule.
Expand your horizons beyond Mario 3 and Mega Man 2 and there are so many good games to be found

Ripple Island
Before they became known for their classic action games like Blaster Master, Batman and Journey to Silius, Sunsoft made many Japan-exclusive games for the Famicom in various genres. One of these was Ripple Island (occasionally translated as Lipple Island), a straightforward adventure game with plenty of charm that’s worth checking out for fans of Japanese adventure games and especially newcomers.

I held a poll over on some of my socials about what the big 2024 project will be - the results are in, it's going to be a full-on 90s CD-style arrange of the Journey to Silius NES soundtrack! Thanks for participating if you did! See you around. [ID: Image of the aforementioned poll - the results were as follows: 6% for Nemesis 2 MSX, 22% For Haunted Castle SC55, 20% for Gradius III MSX, and 52% for Journey to Silius. End ID]

Rusted Steeleto
The undead form of Steeleto, having taken on rust after having been dead for 11 years. He’s every bit of deadly as he was when he was alive, and he’s also a walking bioweapon; if you do survive his blade magic, you’re put at an increased risk of tetanus and diseases with similar symptoms on account of the aforementioned rust.
Abilities:
Rusted Full Body Blades
A more powerful version of the Full Body Blades attack that also fires rust at you at the speed and range of shotgun pellets.
Rusted Blade Scatter Shot
The rusted blades Steeleto fires have a likely chance against its target of breaking apart into smaller pieces, increasing their area of effect.
Cure Hunter Technique - Full Body Restraint
A move that constricts and cuts its target with rusted blades.
Rustrang
A fast spinning attack; almost as fast as light.
Weaknesses:
Rusted Steeleto’s second life wasn’t resurrected, which takes away his ability to become a Mega Monster.
Battle Themes:

Pyrus Arena - Bakugan Battle Brawlers for the Nintendo Wii
