For those who don't have a subscription of the Atlantic (or don't know how to get around one), the tl;dr is that a LOT of journalists (and the South African ICJ team) have not done their due diligence vis a vis correctly quoting Bibi Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, leading them to claim they were saying genocidal statements about Gazans when they were in fact specifically talking about eradicating Hamas.

Also the whole thing where a bunch of people have taken Netanyahu making a Biblical quote about Amalek and insisting he is citing an entirely different Biblical verse about Amalek, as well as a different time when Netanyahu made a Biblical reference that people read a lot into, when he was in fact, making a pun.

Don't you just love the endless litany of articles from business rags like the WSJ that have proliferated over the past 3+ years with headlines telling us not to worry, that COVID is just like a bad flu! despite almost all evidence being to the contrary? Despite COVID destroying people's immune systems in a manner comparable to HIV, despite the millions (maybe billions?) of people who suffer from long-term complications of varying severity.

Even within the article itself it contradicts the headline, stating as an aside the actual point of the new CDC guidelines, that COVID is most definitely more serious than influenza or RSV, but lying comes so naturally to whichever chucklefuck boot-licking editor who created this headline that they just couldn't resist continuing to downplay the severity of the ongoing pandemic.

I'm so sick of this nonsense, and like the millions of people who have had their health wrecked by COVID that's literal sickness.

I went to a pro-Palestine protest and I later saw that one of the local newspapers had written about it calling it a “pro-Hamas” rally. I left a lengthy comment on the article telling off the author for journalistic malpractice because not one of speakers at the rally ever said that they supported Hamas. He also conveniently omitted the fact that Jewish Voice for Peace was a major organizer of the event to try and make it seem like every single person at the rally was a Muslim. A few days later, the article got taken down. Keep calling out the mainstream media on their hypocrisy and dishonesty - your advocacy DOES make a difference!

reflecting on everything that has happened in the last 4 weeks at my library I have one message for everyone and anyone in my country and elsewhere:

Please give a shit about your local library board of trustees elections (ditto on elected school board members). The elected board of trustees has a ridiculous amount of power over what happens inside your public library. If you love the public library, the best thing that you can do is to give a shit about board elections. Hell, you can RUN for the library board. When the right nutso right-wing maga idiot book banning fundie christians get elected to library boards they can use those positions to destroy a library from the inside.

We didn't get destroyed like that (unlike multiple other libraries in the US) but our uninformed and partisan board members did take actions that undermined our credibility, nuked our leadership, dropped gasoline on an already raging fire of internal staff conflict, and took actions that will make it very difficult for us to find new leadership team members who are qualified and experienced because no one like that is going to want to work at a library where the board has proven that they will unilaterally make employment decisions about leadership team members without providing full due process, investigation or arbitration in response to reactive allegations of misconduct from less than reliable internal and external sources.
