Jouno Headcanons // sfw + nsfw

Jouno is that person who gets super pissed when there’s a crying baby in public, like on a train, and it just won’t stop wailing. He has to pull himself together to not give the baby that creepy glare of his, though he's probably the reason the baby started crying in the first place. He doesn't have a kind face.

You never know whether he likes or hates you. Whether you and him are coworkers or acquaintances, he’s either really polite and it’s hard to tell if he’s being genuinely nice or not, or he makes a lot of mean, sarcastic comments and you’d have no clue if that’s just his sense of humor and friendly teasing, or if he can’t stand you.

I have a feeling that animals don’t like him. For example, cats and dogs can be wary of people when they’re no good, and although Jouno might be able to deceive other people, it’s not uncommon that their pets seem uneasy and skeptical around him, not wanting to be touched or picked up by him.

I don’t think he would be particularly mean in a romantic relationship with someone he truly loves, and neither would he act like you're the biggest nuisance in the world. That treatment is reserved for people who have no value to him; if he loves you, he will not be sappy and over-the-top affectionate with you, especially not in public, but rather talk shit about people he doesn't like with you. If he asks you to brainstorm some insults with him, he’s head over heels in love with you.

Speaking of affection, he’s usually not the one who seeks it, but he never fails to be surprised when he notices how good it feels to be hugged, have his hair played with or his skin gently caressed by you. Due to his heightened senses, he tends to get overstimulated quickly, so you shouldn’t take it personally when he denies you physical contact. But overall, he likes how it feels and it’s not too rare that he’s the one to kiss you or hug you when you don’t expect it.

His alcohol tolerance is either ridiculously high or very low. He can either drink all night and not be hungover the next morning, or he’s already tipsy after one glass of wine.

I’m so sorry, but he’s the type of neighbor who takes a broom and knocks it against the ceiling when the neighbor in the apartment above him plays loud music after ten pm. It’s so embarrassing to witness, but he stands by it. His ears are sensitive and he hates it when people blast loud music.

Can’t fall asleep while cuddling. He’ll gladly cuddle with you in bed, but when he wants to sleep, he will curl up into an oddly specific position, a pillow between his thighs, one in his arms, and if the duvet isn’t neatly tucked around him in the way he wants it, he’ll get all grumpy and pouty, adjusting the bedding and blankets until he can fall asleep in peace.

Generally speaking, I think he experiences occasional sensory issues, dislikes specific textures and fabrics and finds certain noises relaxing and others drive him insane to the point where you could call it misophonia.

Jouno is best friends with an elderly lady who lives in his apartment building. She’s always gushing over how handsome and well-mannered he is, but is shocked when he reveals to her that no, he does not have a wife and kids yet. Jouno can’t say no when it comes to her, he’s only really soft with her and his s/o if he has one.

Not a nice headcanon, but I think Jouno regularly oversteps his partner’s boundaries. ⮑ He’s always a big spoon, I don’t see him being comfortable being a little spoon. Also this is very strange to say but he can act like such a sibling when cuddling you. Except when you or he needs it, then he takes it serious and is surprisingly gentle.

Jōno Saigiku has issues with their self-image, and I think about that a lot.

The other Hunting Dogs most definitely have this issue as well; Teruko very directly stated how inhuman their routine maintenance surgeries are during the Sky Casino Arc. It is very probably that they feel disconnected from the rest of humanity in varying levels.

Jōno sticks out to me because of what we know about their past as well as what brief insights we have been given to their perspective on themself. As we can blatantly gather from Dazai, Chuuya, Yosano, and Akutagawa’s affiliations with the Port Mafia, organized crime is a traumatic and stressful path of life to take. We don’t know the circumstances behind Jōno’s involvement, but we know that they were an executive who specialized in torture. Considering their remarkable usage of their senses to compensate for their blindness, it’s not unlikely that- in whatever crime family they belonged to- they played a frequent and vital role. That changes how a person views the world and themself.

Stating the obvious aside, we have seen that Jōno doesn’t exactly carry themself as a changed person. They take pride in their torture methods, and they don’t seem reluctant to be seen as a corrupted military officer that abuses their position of power. This is clearly a façade, because there have been multiple occasions in which they have explicitly shown glimpses to the gentler side of their personality- Namely in the most recent arc. They even admitted to preferring the sensation of providing people a safer environment as opposed to causing nothing more than suffering- My vagueness here only being for people who haven’t read the manga, maybe.

What I really want to get at here is how I think Jōno doesn’t forgive themself. I don’t believe that they can accept themself as a good person, let alone a redeemable one. They’re very obviously a reserved and distant person, and their persona of a heartless criminal is- in my opinion- a ploy to ensure people don’t try to get close to them. We know for a fact they care about the Hunting Dogs, but it isn’t something they seem outwardly fond of accepting; We see many times how they remain harshly spoken to the people they care about, but we also see moments of Jōno’s kinder side (e.g.: holding Teruko’s hand to soothe her, the trust put in Tachihara, etc.).

This incessant rambling was more or less to say Jōno cannot let themself be comfortable in an objectively healthier environment. They are guarded, suspicious, and hold high expectations for themself. I think it’s easier for them to accept themself as a bad person than to think they could change, when they’ve not done enough good to have “earned” forgiveness.

This is also to say: Yes, I am writing Jōno centric angst. Yes, I project onto the silly person. No, I will not let them be happy.

hmm, okay, I hope this will make sense and may be accurate :) I will focus on personality of a person, rather than looks I hope that's okay! :) If you meant look wise, I personally don't think any of them would have specific preferences aside from Mushitaro who would probably get his attention caught if he saw you are styling your clothes nicely, etc. and I also think Ango has a thing for short hair?? IDK WHY LOL, also I did it in more gender neutral manner, I hope that's okay! But it applies to women as well of course :)

Starting off with Poe, I feel like he is very accepting person overall and can pull through a lot of things when he loves/cares about someone. I think he would like a person who is a bit on calmer side in a sense where they are bringing him comfort but also getting him out of his comfort zone gently. I feel like he dislikes people who are forceful in general, so someone who is gentle and understanding. I feel like he also loves people who know when to talk and when to be quiet in a sense, so a person who is empathic and aware of his feelings. I feel like he would be into someone who is interested in mysteries or books in general, someone who would get along with Karl lol and someone who is in general kind, understanding, nice and warm person. I think he would really fall for someone who carries themself nicely, who shows him that they cares and I think he would be flustered because of that a lot, but still do his best to show his feelings as well. So overall someone who is flexible, shares similar interests with him, who motivates him, is patient and overall honest, kind, empathic person :)

Jouno is tricky one. I feel like he is very on two sides here. I think he would be into a person who is playfully cocky, who challenges him and who kind of doesn't let themself get frightened or scared by him. I think he would need a person to be amusing to him by being so chill about stuff he says and rather challenge his views and himself at the same time. I think he got so used to people being scared of him constantly and as amusing as that is to him, I think someone who is complete opposite would make him lowkey obsessed. On the other hand, I also feel like person who is just so naively and plainly kind would catch his attention. Someone who just treats everyone kindly with no regards of anything else and as he could hear their heart is pure and genuine it would make him think about it deeply. Someone showing appreciation and kindess to him would throw him off in a sense and when he sees the person treats everyone else like that as well, it would make him want to get closer to them, at first trying to figure out what's the catch, but once he sees there isn't any he would gain soft spot for them. So I think someone who is a mixture of this or rather unpredictable to him. Perfect mix of playful cockiness, kindess, intelligence, challenging him and good, empathic heart :)

Tecchou is making me think lol, he is really a little dumbass ngl I love him, I feel like he would have an issue even realizing he likes someone and vice versa - someone liking him. I do feel like his attention would be caught by someone who shows genuine interest in his interests! Someone who would ask him all sorts of question about ants, food he likes, etc., I think it would make him rethink a bit because he kind of got used to being annoying to Jouno and people giving him side eye for stuff he does sjsjsj (I love him though), so someone who is genuine and someone who gives him same energy back. I think once he starts talking more about stuff he likes that he would get more energetic, but also!! I think he would be into a person who shows genuine care in their friends, who put them above everything - I think he would really admire that type of person. So even though he is a bit slow in a sense when it comes to realizing feelings, we can see when he cares - he cares completely and above everything and I think he would care for a person in that manner the more time he spends with them, the more they show him their care and the more he sees who they are as a person. I truly do believe Tecchou is able to love/care about anyone, so someone who shares that similar trait to his would definitely catch his attention and make him develop feelings :) and someone who has guts to try his food choices sjsjsjsj

Mushitaro, as I said in beginning I think first thing he would notice is the style and the way person carries themselves but on the other side, I think he would love a person who isn't judgemental and who lets him be himself. I think he would love someone who is teasing him constantly but also accepts him for who he is (as dramatic as he is). I feel like he would really be into someone who has wide, flexible persona and is able to adapt to him in every moment. I also think someone who is trustworthy, who is reliable and in general loyal person would be someone who would make him develop feelings for them. Also, someone who isn't too childish maybe? I feel like as playful, teasing and flexible person is, he would still prefer them being on mature side and also someone who likes shopping for clothes lol, I feel like he would adore having shopping weekends with them :D Also, someone who helps him kind of better himself? I don't think he is into hot-cold type of people or someone who would use him for simple pleasures, etc. I think he would either look for someone serious who is literal ride or die; someone who is there just to get stresses out with no attachment (but I think he would hate it) or he wouldn't try anything at all. Someone who teaches him self care and ways to take good care of himself even though his job is hardly allowing so therefore partner who teaches him maybe tips and tricks and who understands how tired he is and once they can be together organizes little self care night and doesn't ask him about work, but rather just talk about everything else, so someone who brings him peace, comfort and overall breath of fresh air :)

The Hunting Dogs except they all work a 9-5 office job

-Teruko is the mean, sassy secretary that everybody is scared of. She's incredibly sweet and funny, but if you are even one minute late to work, or even THINK about asking her to get you a coffee, you're dead. She carries the entire office on her back and honestly, she needs a raise.

-Fukuchi is the boss, and at first glance a new worker might assume that he will be the intimidating one. Except he's actually useless (doesn't even know how to use the printer), and nobody in the office has any respect for him. Teruko does all his work for him, because most of the time he's roaming around the office being generally incompetent and crying about how his ex-husband left him (Fuku squared my beloved) or attempting to increase moral by spouting shitty motivational quotes that piss everyone else off.

-Tachihara is the one person who everybody *expects* to be utterly incompetent but actually is not. He is the second most productive other than Teruko, except he constantly gets the blame for everyone else's troubles, because he looks guilty ALL THE TIME. He is the most normal and sane person in the office, my mans is just trying to do his job, and yet his coworkers are all batshit crazy.

-Jouno is the office Gossip. Sometimes, he will just make up random rumors for entertainment, such as the time he convinced the entire office that their boss Fukuchi was conspiring against them and selling their secrets to their rival company on the second floor, the DOA. This was only cleared up once it was revealed that Fukuchi isn't even intelligent enough to do that by himself, since Teruko does all his work.

-Tecchou is the evil mf who steals everyones food from the communal fridge. He doesn't even bring his own food and will just treat the fridge like a buffet. He also mixes the most abominable foods like a science experiment. He once mixed Tachihara's homemade curry with Jouno's Lava pudding. Teruko ended up having to give up her own Lava cake to Jouno, so that he wouldn't find out what had happened.
