Scarlette Albright has always lived under a charmed star. Born the daughter of a New York publicist and an 80's heartthrob, her parents might not have been together as a couple, but still did their best to raise her together—co-parenting her as fairly and as diplomatically as they could given their respective busy schedules. While she loved them both dearly, at the end of the day, she was always her daddy's little girl.

Joey Albright was a loving and excellent father. He was there for her as much as he could be, but the nature of his profession meant that there were long stretches of time where he was either on location, promoting a recent project, or otherwise travelling for work—during which she either stayed with her mother or her paternal grandmother in New York, neither of them wanting to uproot her life or interrupt her schooling. It made the time that she did spend with him all the more precious to her, and as she got older and he started taking fewer jobs that required him to leave the city, that bond between them remained intact. She felt a little bad that he had never met someone and settled down, but that only made her more protective of him, wary of anyone new in his life.

Growing up the daughter of a famous actor came with both amazing perks as well as annoying drawbacks. Her dad tried to shield her from public attention, wanting her to have as normal a childhood as she possibly could, but she eventually reached a point in her late teens when she got tired of only being Joey Albright's daughter. Her dad had made his fame the old-fashioned way, but Lettie made hers online during the rise of social media—and in certain circles, her fame as an influencer eventually eclipsed his. It also made her even more convinced that she was meant to take care of him.

When her grandmother set her dad up with Hope, alarm bells immediately started going off in her head—her suspicions of the woman and her intentions getting in the way of any chance that Lettie might warm up to her. It was to her great frustration that Joey decided to go after her when she disappeared on a trip home to Huntsville. No matter how hard she tried to convince him otherwise—including begging him to turn back their entire trip from New York to West Virginia—he was adamant in his decision, and she wasn't about to leave him to his own devices. Now she's stuck here, and she's incredibly annoyed about it, but at least she can blame Hope for their predicament.

very fine morning F68° at 8 ½ breakfast at 9 ½ - saw A- and the servants off to church at 11 10 – then siding till 11 50 and then sat down to write (in the salon) – wrote to Mrs. Briggs and copy to announce Oddy’s going home and copy of letter to SW. 1 ½ p. small and close – respecting the rent day and work at home – saying that I meant the Northgate rent and that to be paid by Mr. Thomas Greenwood for the Northgate land to be received at least for the present, by Mr. Parker – A- back from church at 2 5 (bishop Luscombe had preached an excellent sermon) and off again at 2 ¾ (after the servants had dined or rather taken their luncheon) to take them to the Jardin des plantes for Oddy to see the menagerie and gardens – A- back from the Jardin des plantes at 3 40 – talking to her some while – wrote out my letter to SW. – dinner at 7 – out at 8 ½ A- and I (took only Lefevre) and drove to the Jardin Turn – got out and walked along the boulevards – at the Jardin from 9 ¼ to 10 ¼ - again oboe concerto after feu d’artifice – home at 10 35 – had Josephine - made tea for A- and did not leave her till 12 ½ - fine day till rain from about 6 ½ for an hour - afterwards fine evening – thunder and lightning between 12 and 2 tonight – F69 ¾° at 12 ½ tonight – till 2 20 tonight writing – copies of letters to Messrs. Mackean Parker Gray
