Jonsa Halloween 2023: Day 4 - Ghost
Jonsa Gothic AU
Jon Snow had never expected to inherit Winterfell. He’d grown up aware that he was distantly related the Starks—a poor cousin precariously balanced on one of the less sturdy limbs of their aristocratic ancestral tree—but it had meant little to him as he attempted to scrape together a life for his mother and himself on his meager clerk’s salary.
He’d felt sorry for the Starks when he’d learned of the illness and tragedies that had cut the family down. And even then—when he’d read about the duel that had taken the life of the eldest Stark son, the hunting accident that had killed the father, the jealous lover said to have strangled the daughter on the day of her wedding, illness that had taken the lives of the younger children, the mad grief that had brought about the mother’s demise—he’d still not excepted the letter informing him that the Stark fortune, including Winterfell, was now his.
Upon taking up residence in the large, drafty manor, he begins to have visions of a young woman—skin pale as ice, hair red as blood—dancing through Winterfell’s shadowy halls. He is certain that she is the most beautiful creature he’s ever seen and he cannot help but desire her. He is also quite certain that she’s been dead for at least a year.

The Stranger's Bride
Tumblr media
For Day 2 of the Jonsa Halloween Event: The Stranger - Pumpkin - Full Moon
(This is just a little something because I'm tired of outlining the next book tonight and the spooky season brought this to mind❤️)
It's nearly nightfall.  Sansa wishes they hadn’t waited so late for the ceremony.  The moon hides behind the clouds like a child playing peek-a-boo, eager to spoil her surprise.  She breathes in deeply and checks her reflection one last time.  A picture-perfect bride with auburn hair and a fragile, haunted beauty stares back.  He will be eager to bed her once the feast is over and the Wolf will be eager to feast in turn.  She’s been dutiful all her life but, tonight, duty dies.
The music swells as the massive doors of the sept open.  All guests turn to watch her coming down the aisle in her ivory and grey cloak, embroidered with the direwolf, the symbol of the Stark Family.  Every man in her family has the beast tattooed over his heart from the age of sixteen when he swears the oath.  So silly.  As if a tattoo makes a man into a fearsome beast.  What does her groom have tattooed over his heart?  A dragon?  Perhaps so though she knows he is the son of her long-dead aunt.
Outwardly, this looks like a happy occasion but the bride knows better.  The men are all armed and ready to spill blood at a moment’s notice should something go awry.  And, the women present either look at her with pity (if they have sense) or envy (if they have none.)  One thing is agreed though - they all think she’ll be lucky to survive one year as his wife.
Sansa ignores the stares, holding her head high as she walks with measured grace, letting her blue eyes sweep over the images of the gods above the altar.  She could relate to the Maiden’s plight or seek the Mother’s comfort or Crone’s wisdom today.
But there stands the Stranger.
How fitting when she is to wed a stranger today, the ruthless new underworld boss of the South, Jon Targaryen.  They say he is a cold-blooded killer. It's rumored he can't be killed. Nonsense. All men die.
When she dares look at him, his dark eyes burn with fire, reminding her that his family’s favorite method for eliminating their enemies is burning them alive.  Gruesome but effective.  The Starks prefer the old ways.
“He will never harm you,” Father had said when he’d told her of the arrangement he had made with the now-deceased Rhaegar Targaryen.
“There is little you can do about it if he does.”  Father knows it to be true even if he prefers to pretend otherwise.  She’ll be his wife and under his power. At least, that’s what they all think.
“A marriage between our houses will bring peace.  It’s better for business.”
Business.  That is the name of the game when you’re born into the mob.  Arranged marriages are still popular in their world, a way to broker peace.  The Northern Families had needed peace badly enough for her father to barter his oldest daughter away.
Through stained glass, the moon winks at her from behind the clouds and that familiar, savage hunger unfurls.  Not yet, not yet.  She clutches her tummy, hoping to mask it as maidenly nerves.
Father grips her hand a little tighter, the tiniest sign he’s not the emotionless ice man everyone believes him to be.  Is it a desire to comfort her that prompts him to do it?  A warning to her not to run?  Or fear of what may happen this night?
The endless walk to her groom is over before she knows it and her father's protection ends. It's fine. She can protect herself.
The septon starts to speak and the rustling behind them tells her the guests are taking their seats.  What a show they may have if those clouds can’t contain the moon a little longer.
But a cold, scarred hand slips into hers, drawing her from her murderous thoughts.  The darkness of his eyes is not as profound up close.  The grey reminds her more of her father’s with flecks of lilac visible in the candlelight.
His lips twist into a wry but undeniably fetching grin.  She would prefer if he’d been plainer.  No other appetites would be raised if that were so.
“Good evening, wife.”  They are the first words he has ever spoken to her. They feel like a caress meant to calm.
“Good evening,” she murmurs in reply.  She is well known for her courtesy after all.  He is handsome. Perhaps she will let him bed her before she allows the wolf to-
“You smell…”  He lets the words hang and she wonders if he means to insult her here at the altar as they are being wed.  Her eyes snap to his and those mesmerizing eyes have changed again back to something dark and unfathomable when he finally finishes the sentence.  “Delicious.”
And, it’s then that she hears it in his voice, that rumbling growl his civil mask can’t contain as the moon emerges from the clouds.  She knows that sound like her own heartbeat. His thumb sweeps across her wrist, setting her pulse to pounding and drawing an answering growl from her own throat.  How curious.
"You smell... dangerous," she says, testing.
He smiles, showing her his sharp teeth. Oh. Her groom is a stranger to her but they share an unexpected kinship.
Old Nan had always said she would recognize another with the dark gift without ever uttering a sound.  She was right.  What an interesting discovery to make on one's wedding day. She can't wait for the wedding night.

Jon wakes to a pounding at his door. The cabin is dark, the only light from the banked fire. Jon was warm beneath his covers, but when he sits up, chilled air slips beneath, making him shiver. The pounding comes again, and Jon swings his legs out of bed, his stockinged feet meeting the cold hardwood. He barely feels it, all his attention on the door, and who could possibly be seeking him out in the dead of the night. Or what, his mind whispers, but he shakes that out. Jon is not a superstitious man,

"The netherworld is not a safe place for the living. If you are to succeed in bringing Jon Snow back, you must keep your head down and speak to no one." the Red Woman whispered, her eyes boring deep into Sansa's own as her knife cut into her palm. "I must warn you, he will not be the same when he returns."
Sansa Stark reaches Castle Black only to discover that her distant half-brother has been murdered. When Lady Melisandre suggests that their shared blood may be the key to saving the Lord Commander, she journeys into the land of the dead to find him. But death has not been so kind to Jon, unveiling all the secrets and sins of the past that resounds through the present. When hope comes in the form of a girl he has only dared to think of with his last breath, the moment their bloodied hands intertwine seals his fate as a traitor in all the ways that count.

Jonsa Halloween event: Day 1 - Resurrection - Bonfire - Witch
When Jon died, betrayed and killed by his own men of the Night's Watch, Sansa was inconsolable. But when the Lady rubbed her face against her knee, Sansa saw her hat and it dawned on her that she was a witch. She immediately ran to the family books and found the necessary spell. Bran tried to tell her that maybe Jon wouldn't come back the same, but she didn't care if there was a chance, she could get Jon back. She lit a bonfire, recited a spell and waited. Nothing happened, Sansa fell asleep next to Jon's body. At dawn, a hand touched her cheek and she opened her eyes to see Jon staring at her uncertainly. She was happy that Jon was resurrection, Sansa hugged him and when Jon said her name and smiled, she knew that it was her Jon.

Jonsa Halloween 2023
Day 5 (October 31st): Free Choice
Resurrection/Witch/Spirit
Jonsa AU (Inspired by Practical Magic)
Since leaving the North to attend the most prestigious fashion school in the South, Sansa has had a made a lot of mistakes. Leaving the safety and protection of Winterfell, which has been the Stark family estate for hundreds of years, was one of them. Making the wrong friends and trusting the wrong people was another. But dating Joffrey Baratheon was the worst of them all.
When Sansa drops out of school, and leaves her dreams behind to hide out in the Vale with a scandal-plagued Joffrey, things go from bad to worse. What started out as the occasional shove or insult from Joffrey has turned into black eyes and broken ribs.
Miserable, missing home, and done with Joffrey — and with love — Sansa leaves the Vale in the middle of the night and heads back North to what’s left of her family (plagued for generations with a curse, Stark men never make it back past the Neck if they journey South); a curse that has already claimed their father and their big brother Robb.
Sansa never expects Joffrey to follow.
When she finds herself dragging her ex-boyfriend’s dead body out of her childhood home (specifically, the greenhouse floor, where he dropped dead the second time, not the kitchen table, where he died first) and through her mother’s magical garden, with her little sister late one cool autumn night, she knows she’s really, really messed up.
It isn’t until two (very handsome) Federal agents show up the next day looking for a missing Joffrey, that Sansa begins to think the family curse is alive and well and about to get her arrested for murder. That is, if Joffrey doesn’t get her first.
_____________________
Featuring two witchy sisters bonding over murder and magic, a mother still grieving her dead husband while raising two teenaged boys on her own, and dealing with her own mess of a sister (and her sister’s sheltered young son) a rowdy Rickon, who’s as wild as their uncle Brandon used to be, an observant Bran, who may possess magic to rival all the Starks put together, and a pair of Federal agents who are about to meet two women who will change the rest of their lives (if they don’t get them killed — or fired — first).
* With bonus agents Lannister and Tarth, who deal exclusively in cases of the paranormal, spooky and just damn weird.

Jonsa Halloween 2023: Day 1 - Witch They say that the Queen in the North is not a mortal woman like you or I. They say that she is a terrible witch. They say that, when the moon is full, she transforms her lover into a white wolf and together they hunt in the dark cold winter forests of her lands until the rivers run red with blood. They say that even that is not enough sate her hunger.

Pumpkin
Ficlet for the @jonsa-halloween event. 28th Oct: The Stranger - Pumpkin - Full Moon Rating: G Universe: Modern
Also on AO3.
They leave the party together. Jon tells himself it doesn’t mean anything—she just doesn’t want to walk out alone. Nevermind that they both grew up in Winterfell and could navigate the town blindfolded. Nevermind that this is a safe part of town; it’s Halloween, and people in Winterfell are enthusiastic about the holiday. Maybe too enthusiastic.
So he doesn’t just leave the house with her; Jon ends up walking Sansa to her car—which is parked in the opposite direction from his—because you never know when you might run into overzealous trick-or-treaters or occult-obsessed school girls who think they might be real witches.
“Well, this is me,” Sansa says, stopping at her grey Honda Civic.
“I remember,” Jon chuckles. She had asked him to come along when she bought it a few months back, saying she didn’t know anything about cars and it would be helpful to have him along. In the end, Jon may have pointed out issues with a few of the used cars she was considering, but it was Sansa who charmed the salesman into a discount of 300 gold dragons.
Jon waits for Sansa to take out her keys, but she merely shuffles her feet and then looks at him. Why is she looking at me like that? Now that he thinks of it, she’s been a bit off all night, clasping her hands behind her back like she does when she is uncertain but wants to appear composed, laughing too late at jokes like she wasn’t paying attention, staring—
She breaks into his thoughts with a laugh, the one she fakes when she’s nervous. Why is she nervous?
“Look at that,” she says, holding up her phone screen for him to see the time. “Midnight.”
Then she’s dropping the mobile into her purse, leaning up on her toes, and pressing her lips against his, and Jon’s brain just … goes blank.
“Wrong holiday,” he says, like an idiot, once she’s pulled back from him.
Sansa laughs, and suddenly he doesn’t care if he sounds like an idiot if it makes her laugh—her true one, a mellifluous tune emitted from her slightly parted mouth, front teeth showing and her bottom lip stretched full.
“Well, maybe I wanted one kiss before I turn back into a pumpkin.”
“Pretty sure that’d make you the carriage in this scenario.” This time, it’s on purpose. He wants to make her laugh again. When she does, it gives him the courage he needs.
Tangling one hand in her hair, the other pressed lightly on her back, he brings her back into his space and kisses her.
The front door of the house slams shut; someone else is leaving, and they wolf whistle as they walk out, causing the kiss to end.
“Oh gods.” Sansa giggles and buries her head into Jon’s chest. It’s such a small thing, her step toward instead of away, but it makes his heart catch.
“Go on a date with me?” he asks.
She leans back to look him in the eyes before she nods.
