Let go of Harry Potter, it was never even that deep. Read/watch His Dark Materials- THAT’S the mind blowing, perspective changing fantasy series you were looking for and should have had growing up (if the Catholic Church hadn’t taken that away from you). Remember that movie about the little girl and the polar bear in 2007, “The Golden Compass?” Yeah, it was boycotted and censored by the church. I’m so thankful to have been introduced to it as a child so that I could have a childhood special interest series that wasn’t Harry Potter- because I’d be heartbroken and coping rn if Harry Potter had been my favorite. HDM is feminist, supports queer rights with queer characters, it teaches metaphysics, and is against religious fascism.

JK Rowling didn't write Hogwarts Legacy.
Moira Squier did.
JK Rowling wrote about a short and swarthy ethnic minority legally denied the right to own certain kinds of property, excluded from most careers apart from finance, oppressed for hundreds of years but still ignored by equality activists, perceived as duplicitous and bloodthirsty, speaking a guttural language and having a culture considered inferior by mainstream society.
The film franchise gave them big hooked noses.
Moira Squier created a new character from this minority who was the victim of a brutal, life-threatening hate crime in his youth, which radicalised him against the society that oppressed his people. She wrote a narrative in which a marginalised person's resentment of their oppressors causes them to become morally corrupt, and the only "good" members of the marginalised group are the ones who can overcome that resentment. She created a story in which the protagonist must prevent a marginalised group from reclaiming their property, because doing so would make them too powerful, and that might threaten the status quo.
Troy Leavitt was the lead developer for the first several years (editing in a correction: he was only a lead designer in 2018; from 2019 through 2021 he was senior producer instead) of this game's creation. He runs a YouTube channel in which he defends cultural appropriation and Gamergate, among other things. (Editing another correction: I previously described his channel as alt-right; it turns out Leavitt explicitly rejects the alt-right movement, though he still holds various reactionary opinions.) He oversaw the design of a marginalised minority which bears an uncanny resemblance to Nazi propaganda:

i am so fucking infuriated that the same leftists who have been posting the protocols, and reblogging news literally direct from hamas, are now acting all righteous because they get to call out j.k rowling for her latest bout of transphobic antisemitism. they feel so good that they're "standing up for victims of the holocaust", while they've spent the past six months weaponizing the holocaust to attack jews.
if you're only calling it out when the poster is a terf or right-wing bigot posting misinformation on twitter, but not when jews are being stabbed in the streets, then congratulations, your activism is worthless! you can stop trying to convince yourself you would have been against the holocaust when you've been dead fucking silent about the jews who are dying now.

This hogwarts legacy stuff really is separating the wheat from the chaff. If you can't bring yourself to not buy a video game, knowing what you know about the creator of the franchise's transphobia, antisemitism, racism, and the problematic elements of the game itself, you don't really care about these issues. It's just one fucking video game you're being asked to pass on. I'm sure there are a million other games, games you probably already bought and are just sitting there unfinished or unopened from a digital sale. You can pass on one game, it's not impossible!
It wouldn't be so maddening if people just said "fuck you I don't care I want to play the stupid wizard game" but no they want to be patted on the head and told that they're still a good person. You have to own your choices. If you felt any real guilt about this, going out of your way to buy a $60 video game (which is a luxury purchase) vs not and supporting a boycott should be a super easy decision. Stop lying to yourself and others, just play the wizard game and don't try to play activist/ally on the internet.

Genuinely feel like a big part of the reason why people are so determined to say that Rowling's words are terrible but aren't actually Holocaust denial is because if those people acknowledge that erasing groups targeted during the Holocaust and undermining the Holocaust's impact in any way are forms of Holocaust denial, then they'd have to confront the fact that they've been engaging in Holocaust denial themselves against Jewish people for months on end and they're just not willing to do that.

Me, a 30 something trans woman, has the power to remove all of JK Rowling's rights? Based. Good. Hope so. Terfs shouldn't have any rights as terfs, because terfs are deeply fascistic who want to take away peoples rights while crying victim lying that their rights are being threatened. Terfs are professional pissbabies.

even more than ever, i'm endorsing that every person who is still an active harry potter fan and is reading the books, watching the movies, playing the games, and/or buying the merch is a monster who will ultimately be condemned by history. i hope you carry a deep personal shame with you until you grow the fuck up and stop supporting media made by the most prominent figure in a global hate movement.
stop putting your comfort and desire to consume above the safety and well-being of trans people, jewish people, and people of color.
i grew up with this series. it's meant a lot to me over my life. my dad used to read the books to me and my sister as kids, and we continued that tradition until the last book. we went and saw the movies together as a family. we went to a book release party dressed as characters from the books. even after i came out as trans, i had a hard time letting go. i kept harry potter merchandise around with me and had a little hufflepuff keychain. but i gave that up almost a decade ago because of the harm it started to cause to me and my community. i can't engage in these stories anymore; they make me feel sick. and the realization that antisemitism, racism, misogyny, and transphobia have been a part of these stories since the beginning means that it would be wrong to try and engage with them even without financial support and even under death of the author.
harry potter is, at this point, a symbol of hate. one that makes me feel unsafe. i don't care if you, yourself, are a member of the communities affected by jkr's hate or the hate expressed in the series. you should know better if anything.
fuck you. you can't do the bare fucking minimum to support us, jewish people, or people of color and that's sad. i legitimately hope you die so that there will be one less person in the world giving support or indifference to fascists. the world would be better without you in it, as long as you refuse to let go of a series of antisemitic, racist books written by one of the most prominent and active transphobes alive today.
sincerely,
a trans woman that you are statistically likely to ignore or harass

the theory that the reason why jk rowling is such an awful person now is because she's so chronically online and radicalized through lack of real human contact outside her transphobic internet spaces actually checks out pretty well

like the reason jkr denied book burnings of trans medical books isn't even antisemitism, it's because she refuses to acknowledge trans people existed in the past.
is it holocaust denial? yes, that's a documented event that happened as part of the holocaust, and she's denying it. but why do you care? because it's about you, it's about her engaging in holocaust denial to deny trans identities, not about her actually denying a part of the holocaust.
some of you don't even care the reasons those books were burned is because they were written by a Jewish doctor and Nazis saw gender affirming care as a Jewish conspiracy to weaken the population, you're only mad we lost years of trans research, and that a terf is denying that.
you don't care about the holocaust, you don't care about holocaust denial, you don't care about Nazi book burnings, you care Nazis burned these specific books that relate to your identity and that one popular terf is trying to say that never happened.
