would really like to remind ppl on HRT who are worried about the speed of the changes to their body that 1) it is okay to research and ask other folks on HRT about which dosages, meds, and methods they are using and 2) the human experience is basically infinitely varied and if you are on the right dosage, the speed of the changes you are experiencing is probably correct for your body. like my dad's voice didn't settle until he was in his 30s. i have friends whose breasts stopped developing for two years and then grew again when they were like 17. things like hair and skin texture are affected by hormones but also by stress, drugs, food, exercise, daylight...

all that is just to say: don't be too frightened by what you see in aspirational images. it's okay. you're probably doing alright and you're okay.

Like I’ve been homeless and it is annoying when other homeless without phones assume I must have money because I have a phone that I keep charged. Like my shoes have holes in them, and it’s below zero outside, if I had money I’d buy shoes.

was watching a documentary series about gambling & addiction and something said in there really touched me. a guy was talking about his son's gambling addiction and he said "no matter what, it's something you have to do on your own. addiction and recovery." and this struck me because like... this is both true and not true?

like, yes. addiction is something that is kickstarted by an individual decision - but it's also encouraged by circumstance, and often addiction is spurred on by friends and family who are also addicts. and so in that case, addiction is not something you do alone, because at some point it becomes the only way in which you are social. in that situation, a path to sobriety is profoundly lonely and isolating.

but also like, yes. recovery is something that is kickstarted by an individual decision - but it's also encouraged by circumstance, and often recovery is spurred on by non-addict friends and family. and so in that case, recovery is not something you do alone, because it becomes the only way in which you can continue being social. in that situation, continuing in your addiction is profoundly lonely and isolating.
