Jughead Jones will accept all signifiers of love, no matter how twisted or harmful or painful to himself, and do all he can to protect people that he thinks love him and that he wants to believe mean him well.

Look at the knots he twists himself into in order to believe Jellybean's blatant lie that she made those malicious little movies out of love for her brother, out of a desire to be close to Jughead.

She terrorized our home and all my family and friends out of love for me.

FP rightfully finds this a bit unbelievable, and in the final analysis, Jughead has nothing to cling to but the paper-thin lie that Jellybean told him, so he clings, even as he admits this is what she told him rather than this is what he really believes.

As a fellow creative, he also tries to elevate what she did, with those other kids, as "pretty impressive." He's really trying hard, trying to repackage the whole ordeal as a creative act, gone a bit awry because hey, they're kids, rather than the purposefully mean spirited pranks they actually were.

And finally, he offers a pretty legalistic defense. That she is a minor, and therefore cannot be 'tried' under adult standards of moral behavior or you know, acting lovingly towards people she purportedly loves.

And my heart breaks for Jughead, because he didn't need to do all that, not really. His entire family's orientation is to favor Jellybean at his expense. Even if he hadn't said all that, FP was always going to tell Jellybean that it's ok, and abandon Jughead to deal with the psychological fallout all by himself.

The Lodges and Jones reaction abilty to alter to the narrative

Theses scene are so similar in the sense that both jug and Veronica admit a a older family member Ronnie her Abuelita and Jug his dad aka FP with the fact that their son/daughter (Hiram and JellyBean) did some crazy ass shit that traumatized V and Jug Lourdes and Jug however are not around alot or weren't for a long time from JellyBean and Hiram Jellybean leaves the text after the highschool graduation because jughead is writing the universe and he doesn't go to therapy (I know she's with her grandparents but like literally all of Betty's family and even Ronnie's while family we know are their so it makes a lot of sense that jug chose that himself)

I think this interesting because Lourdes is exists in a way that is source of protection for Veronica post time jump

Lourdes 3rd time in Riverdale is when Veronica kills Hiram and When Lourdes comes to the funeral after learning about Ronnie killing Hiram and she meets Heraldo through her Abuelita who becomes like her body guard (I don't know if the specifics but it's not really important why he's with her besides the hint in his name) and he is like her dude for a while

Anyway after Ronnie's gotten rid of Hiram we meet the embodiment of white systemic power and colonialism Percival Pickens Veronica superpower arrives to protect her when her lips become poisonous it's possible that happened around the time Heraldo was their because he was to weak to overcome the power that Percival holds but he dies Herald a sign of change and Veronica changes physically to protect herself from Percival

When Lourdes returns for the last it's not of her own free will its because she's being mind controlled by Percival but I think it's interesting to note that we know Percy is our White systemic oppression but Hiram the son of Lourdes is the product and aftermath of that white systemic power and colonialism

So Lourdes is being mind controlled to shoot Veronica but eventually both of them get things under control and when Lourdes is back to normal and they clean up

This all note worthy because Veronica unlike Jug cannot just remove her family from the narrative she has to kill it herself Veronica is Latino but like both in the most vague way possible and I would argue that her relationship with the land is on par with Toni (Toni is both a black and indigenous woman she takes up that space mostly by herself with the occasional black character non angel tab and Josie) Veronica is like Mexican indigenous but she's like every brown Latino identity that populates the United States

The brown girls in Riverdale (tab is an angel for most of the time we see her so like she doesn't act like she's annoyed by jug because the angels need her save the world and that's her priority) our burdened by the men of colors delusion and ability to lean into the violence or subservience Lourdes changes the dynamic by giving Ronnie the patent reprimanding Hiram so that later when Veronica gets the point that she feels the need to kill her dad to protect herself she can protect herself

Jughead is alone because he was neglected and because he has no mama but also he has the excuse to remove things from the narrative he exists he gets remove parts of himself because he is white but Veronica's strength and burden is that she can't ignore it

Jughead's isolation in real time in his one stable home, cobbled together though it might be, until he meets Tabitha is really pretty terrifying. He is alarmed by something on his phone, but neither adult reacts at all. There's only Betty, who is currently hiding the Hedwig Kiss. FP is only willing to engage when the news is good, and Alice is only willing to engage with FP - whatever Jughead does that makes FP happy makes Alice happy and that's it. And of course, Jellybean isn't happy at all for anything that happens to Jughead that isn't directly useful to her.

I have theory that Alice and fp are siblings and thats part why jughead is ashamed and while I have posts on why this makes perfect sense I just wanna show you how it makes Alice perspective and actions make more sense

Like ok your Alice you used to be serpent but now your perfect northside girl and you slept with a man that is secretly your brother making your ex gang origins something you would be more ashamed of than you would be anyway you liked being feared but you don't want them to know your secrets

Your daughter is best friends with the man that was besties with your brother in highschool and you told him you slept with your brother and sometimes your brothers son hangs out with your youngest daughter and you wonder if it will all happen again

You hate that you told him that your slept with your brother but you also eternally grateful but you can never tell him

When you discovered your youngest daughter was dating your brothers son you deeply hated it at first until you had to see second youngest daughter on stripper pole at the bar where your familys gang resides and realized that if you didnt your second youngest daughter might end up destitute and you also kinda like the kid he has your smarts and felt like your childhood in comforting way also he's your nephew how you could not

you find out your oldest daughter had kids with her technically cousin on her fathers side and you panicked you hate the blossoms because they are a lot like you but eventually you embrace your oldest daughter again

You help raise her kids who are eerily reminiscent of your husband who you've always suspected and eventually confirmed was a serial killer and you wonder if every man you've ever loved in all your capacity is violent and crazy you becoming increasingly concerned about your daughters purity and image being perfect because you think her life will be better if she's never like you

You end up dating your brother after his ex finally leaves their family forever because fuck all this your work with your inbred son who now works the FBI and maybe he's good

You submit yourself to join in cult in your youngest daughters junior year in highschool cause you don't feel worth living your brother husband is very bad sheriff but your not surprised and you don't have the heart to care

At least you have your niece and nephew and your second daughter and your first daughters kid and your inbred FBI son and your nephew and youngest daughter are working in the FBI with your inbred son and they're doing good things maybe

You find out your brothers daughter was the one that recreated the most recent trauma of your youngest daughter and nephew via creepy puppet show and you discover you inbred FBI son is serial killer

Your brother takes his daughter on the road and you wonder what's the point in trying but at least your nephew and youngest daughter are going to college maybe everything will be alright

Hi!! Yes, it is on AO3. It's called "Last Songs from the Sockhop" (link below!). While it's a series focused on Jughead and Veronica's relationship, starting in the fourth story "Only You" (which happens during episode 7x18) we discover that there is a shared past with the two of them. Since the original Jellybean doesn't exist in this new timeline, one was created. Cheryl calls him "Forsythe" and he calls her "his Jellybean".

The series is almost finished and in every story after they discover their shared past, I've written it that she plays a prominent role in his life.

Below is just a cut excerpt from the first story. I personally really love their interaction in the fifth story "Twilight Time", which occurs after they get their memories back.

As he continued to flip, he found another note bookmarking a particular passage. Read this - and consider it a thank you for the summer when we were seven. Jughead had to take a moment to think. When he was seven it would have been 1946. But, strangely, nothing came to him at first. Like a mist revealing a new mystery, his memories started to surface. But they flipped in between something light and something dark. He recognized one but the other felt familiar. The clothes weren’t right in one of the clashing memories along with noises he didn’t recognize came through louder - music maybe? The recall was on the tip of his tongue. His muscles seemed to know the words but they couldn’t make the necessary sounds. Jughead shook his head hoping to clear the confusion and like a lightbox flipping on, he remembered the summer Cheryl was talking about. 

“I called her ‘Jellybean’...” Jughead whispered to himself.
