The Completely Unnecessary News Analysis

TOP 10 WAYS ON HOW TO SAVE THE GREAT SALT LAKE
1 – Save some of this year's snow for future years.
2 – Make golf illegal.
3 – All new housing should recycle the same 100 gals. over and over again.
4 – Pray for rain. (Oops, the legislature already did that.)
5 – Import water from St. George that wants to import water from Lake Powell.
6 – To hell with St. George, import water directly from Lake Powell.
7 – Set aside a ton of money to study where the water is going. (Oops, Congress already did that.)
8 – Set up a committee to read the study and.
9 – Set up another committee to vote on the study.
10 – And the best way to save the Great Salt Lake: Give land on its banks to alfalfa farmers, who use all the water, anyway.
DON'T MAKE UP S - - T ABOUT GOV. 'HARD-GUY' COX
Spencer Cox a hard-guy? There is another side to our boy-scout-ish governor. Who knew? If you want to make up flippin' falsehoods about Spencer, you'd better not do it to his face — no siree, Bob. We got a peek at his mean moon at a recent Utah GOP confab when conspiracy expert Jason Preston accused Cox of planning a “smart city” on the site of the old state prison in Draper. Such “smart cities” or “15-minute cities” are really prisons for ordinary working people, according to folks like Preston. (Like everyday indentured workers need another self-imposed gulag.) Preston is the host of a podcast called, “We Are the People” — great for audiences who just know the mainstream media is part of an international cabal that controls the price of eggs. Well, the guv wasn't having it. “Stop making stuff up to try to make me look bad,” he blurted. “[Y]ou don't get to make up s - - t bout me.” Yikes. Nonetheless, it's a little sketchy the old prison, which sat on 600 acres of very valuable real estate, was moved at a cost of $4 billion to mosquito habitat just east of the Great Salt Lake. At the Draper site, developers will create what they call a self-contained “15-minute city,” (ahah!) where people can live, work, learn and recreate all in one place but no mosquitos or razor wire. Smart City!
CLIMATE: CAVEMEN DIDN'T PAY TAXES TO MELT ICE
“People are not affecting climate change,” harangued  Majorie Taylor Greene. “You’re not going to tell me that back in the ice age, how much taxes did people pay, and how many changes did governments make to melt the ice?” No Wilson, we couldn't possibly make this up. But the Georgia congresswoman does have a point: In fact, during the last ice age — 100,000 years ago — people didn’t pay taxes to stop Earth from cooling because... well, where do we start. It's all part of the GOP strategy to cut the budget deficit. Greene went on: “Maybe, perhaps, we live on a ball that rotates around the sun, that flies through the universe, and maybe our climate just changes.” See Wilson, she does know science and astronomy. Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, too, was all in for slashing funding to halt climate change. Rising temperatures would be a good thing because fewer people would die from the cold, he said regarding health care costs associated with climate change. Folks in Phoenix will love that. Since taking office in 2011, Johnson has taken in $753,247 from the oil and gas industries, but it hasn't effected his decision-making. Anyway, so what if the polar ice caps are melting — it just means folks in places like Barstow will soon have ocearnfront beach houses. It's a win/win.
Post script — Well, that's a wrap for another week in paradise, where we keep track of the Adderall shortage so you don't have to. As Wilson and the band know, Adderall is good for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). The prescription drug is made up of two stimulants: amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. No wonder there's a shortage. Warning: Do not try this without a doctor's supervision, right Wilson. Never mind. The Adderall shortage is so bad in the Sunshine State that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had to stop by Orem for the Utah Republican Party Organizing Convention where they keep a cache of Adderall for all the hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and difficulty paying attention. Well, anyway, that's what we heard. At the convention, DeSantis bounded onto the stage like a super-hero and declared: “Utah, like Florida, is where freedom works.” Apparently it doesn't work in other places but he didn't go into it. He did say, however, that he wasn't a “potted plant,” and was not going to let the likes of  Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and others with the “woke mind virus” define the national political debate. Like Trump, DeSantis has his own battle cry: “Make America Like Florida.” Don't think about that too much — it gets real confusing.
Alright, Wilson, do you and the band know any good songs about Florida? Well, we should have something for Ron and the Republicans. They've got such great energy, you have to give them that. They're sure fired up about “wokeness” and what it's doing to Mickey and the Disney gang — but all things in moderation, so sing it out guys:
I wanna tell you all a story About this chick I know They call her "Amphetamine Annie" She's always shoveling snow I sat her down and told her I told her crystal clear "I don't mind you getting high But there's one thing you should fear" "Your mind might think its flying, baby On those little pills But you ought to know it's dying, 'cause Speed kills"
But Annie kept on speeding Her health was getting poor She saw things in the window She heard things at the door Her mind was like a grinding mill Her lips were cracked and sore Her skin was turning yellow I just couldn't take it no more She thought her mind was flying On those little pills
She wouldn't heed my warning Lord, she wouldn't hear what I said Now she's in the graveyard, and she's Awfully dead
(Amphetamine Annie — Canned Heat)

Consequences of California Proposition 64 in 2021
When Proposition 64 was put on the ballot in 2016, passed on November 8,  and implemented beginning on November 9, 2016, law enforcement officials warned the public that passing such a measure would create a new criminal culture in California as a result.  The proponents of the measure discounted these claims focusing more on the decrimalization of recreational (and especially medical) use of marijuana.  The measure allows users, 21 years and older, to grow up to 6 live plants per household for personal use, which seems inconsequential in the effort the decriminalize the use of this drug.  But, what proponents ignored and what criminal prosecuters warned about were the provisions that reduced the penalties for many other marijuana offenses.  An unlicensed grower of marijuana who possesses 7 or more plants, no matter how many plants he has in his possession, is no longer guilty of a felony with the penalties attached. That grower is only guilty of a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $500 whether that grower has 7 plants of 70,000.  Several misdemeanor offenses are now infractions as a result of prop 64.
As District Attorney Jason Anderson explained  at a recent Town Hall Meeting held in San Bernardino County on July 10, 2021, a penalty for criminal activity with such inadequate consequences was primed to create a network of illegal unlicensed marijuana growning operations whose only goal is to undercut the prices or the bottom line of legal growing operations.  These growers are organized enterprises funded by organized crime in the form of drug cartels.  Specifically mentioned were the Mexican, the Chinese, and the Armenian Cartels.  For these cartels, a fine of $500, even if this fine is $500 a day, doesn’t even put a dent in the amount of money produced by these grow farms.  And a misdemeanor charge doesn’t have much “teeth” as a deterrent for those who work for these cartels.
Sheriff John McMahon explained that even when an illegal growning operation is targeted by the department, the scope of the warrant only allows for confiscation of the plants.  All the buildings, grow tents, and equipment remain intact (because it is not illegal to own these items) leaving the basic infrastructure also intact to easily set up the operation again.
The proponents of the new culture created by proposition 64 ask the question, why should this matter?  Why are we prosecuting growers of marijuana when the recreational use of marijuana in California is currently legal?  The problem comes because these illegal growing operations are unregulated.  These growers set up operations on land in communities without zoning approval, often on land in rural areas or near residential housing and schools. Partially because they are unzoned and don’t have building department or other government approval, these illegal operations often steal electricity from the local power lines and water from the local water companies - sometimes even from local home owners.  They use chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers even many that are banned not only for use in California but nation wide.  The use of these banned chemicals have been known to impact existing water supplies, cause for great concern in San Bernardino County and the rest of California that is currently experiencing drought conditions.  Many in the county are dependent on ancient underground aquifers that, should they become tainted, could render a whole community or region uninhabitable like the city of Hinckley near Barstow.  And this doesn’t even address the impact these illegitimate operations have on the local ecosystems.
What concerned the manager of the Pinon Hills/Phelan CSD is the increase of water use in the community of 36% over water use during the same period last year (in 2020), an increase he said was “unsustainable”.  This increase is directly attributable to illegal marijuana grow farms in the regions.  One marijuans plant requires 3 gallons of water per day to sustain it.
The town’s people in attendance wanted to know what our government officials plan to do about this problem.  The water compnay plans to impletment a 3 tier system intended to charge high use customers more money.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t address the theft of water from existing residential customers or the illegal well drilling operations that steal water from existing wells.
Congressman Obernolte reported that local DEA agents worked with law enforcement in LA County, using existing Federal Laws to shut down illegal growers in the Palmdale Lancaster Area.  He said that he is working to get the same kind of enforcement co-operation here in San Bernardino County.  DEA can target the water trucks, well drillers, and land owners who have been facilitating these growing farms using federal laws.
The District Attorney has been focusing on criminal activity that can be prosecuted, like the violence often associated with organized crime.  And, they are also focusing on civil prosecution of complaints by the county and local home owners.  They have also asked code enforcement to look into those types of violations including the use of banned chemicals and the illegal dumping of trash created by these farms.
The Sherrif’s Department has increased the number of task forces devoted to illegal marijuana growing farms from two to five.  They have also added two new deputies to serve the tri community and moved the Phelan Sub Station to a building near the Phelan Community Center in an effort to be more accessible to the public.  Since these growing operations use so much water, the sherrifs department has asked members of the community to report any suspicious activity related to the water trucks, and trucks with large plastic water containers in vehicles that have proliferated in the community as a result of this need for water.
Bui the most telling information from the Sherriff’s department was Sherriff McMahon’s assurance that the policy concerning the issuance of CCW’s will continue as it has been - an assurance that was echoed by his successor Sharon Dicus.  Neither man chose to explain why they felt mentioning this policy was important.  It could be noted, however,  that the local news reported that a citizen, who is believed to have been targeted by one illegal grow operation waited for an hour for sherriff’s deputies to respond to a shots fired call.  That home owner used his own gun to defend himself while he waited for law enforcement to respond
The only real solution to this problem is to change the laws governing these types of activities and address the concerns of the members of our communities.  Our local State Representatives and Congressman Obernolte who attended shared their attempts to introduce legislation that would address the environmental Impact these illegal enterprises have on the ecosystem, ininfrastructure, and water supply.  While Democrats and Republicans can’t alway agree about issues like the legalization of marijuana or punishements related to possession of the same, they can usually agree about many issues related to the environment.  The polution of our local water supply is something about which both sides can agree.  To that end, they have introduced legislation with an environmental focus.
The San Bernardino County Sherriffs Department, the District Attorney, and the County Supervisors have also been working in concert on legislation that will give them the power to shut down these operations for good and move them out of the county.
The final advice from our elected officials is to make our voice heard.  Let our elected officials know how you feel about these issues.

WORST MOVIES OF 2020
1.     Angry Asian Murder Hornets Director: Dustin Ferguson Cast: Clint Beaver, Jarad Allen, Elizabeth Barstow Critic’s Notes: There have been many cheap COVID-exploitation movies that popped out last year. And this is perhaps the worst since its less-than-80-minutes running time is filled with disconnected old trailers and ads.   2.     Artemis Fowl Director: Kenneth Branagh Cast: Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie. Colin Farrell, Judi Dench Critic’s Notes: Eion Colfer’s YA series is an intriguing antihero’s journey. So, of course, Disney butchered its adaptation with a hastily packaged fantasy that diluted Artemis’ menacing personality and failed capturing its “Die Hard with fairies” setup.   3.     Bobbleheads The Movie Director: Kirk Wise Cast: Cher, Jennifer Coolidge, Hala Finley, Karen Fukuhara, Khary Payton, Julian Sands, Brenda Song, Luke Wilson Critic’s Notes: From the producers of Foodfight. It is what you expect. But this is more painful to watch, as it contains the most nightmare-inducing final dance scene in an animated movie.   4.     Dolittle Director: Stephen Gaghan Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Marion Cotillard, Jason Mantzoukas Critic’s Notes: With cast and prestige like that, one can expect a true Oscar caliber. However, it is in a family adventure bomb with an embarrassed Downey Jr. phoning it in.   5.     Fantasy Island Director: Jeff Wadlow Cast: Michael Peña, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, Portia Doubleday, Michael Rooker Critic’s Notes: Blumhouse’s take on the classic Ricardo Montalban TV series does not bear its charm or subtleties. Instead, expect a snore-worthy version of Truth Or Dare.   6.     Force of Nature Director: Michael Polish Cast: Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth, Mel Gibson, David Zayas, Stephanie Cayo Critic’s Notes: Force of Nature makes The Hurricane Heist look like The Impossible. And the presence of one Mel Gibson makes it a droning sit.   7.     Homeward Director: Michael Johnson Cast: Joey Lawrence, James Cullen Bressack, Kim Little, D.C. Douglas, Dylan Vox, Jamey Rimawi, Tom Green Critic’s Notes: Of course, The Asylum is active in bringing mockbusters. And out of their animated rip-offs, Homeward bears the most egregious resemblance to its superior source, Onward.   8.     Songbird Director: Adam Mason Cast: KJ Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, Demi Moore Critic’s Notes: This is Michael Bay’s COVID-exploitation movie. So, it obviously contains numbing action scenes and tedious subplots in-between. Plus, given the situation, Songbird is tasteless.   9.     The Last Days of American Crime Director: Olivier Megaton Cast: Édgar Ramírez, Michael Pitt, Anna Brewster, Patrick Bergin, Sharlto Copley Critic’s Notes: There have been many movies last year that were released in bad timing. This actioner that glorifies its lawless violence is one of them. And it is best left rotting.
10.  The Last Thing He Wanted Director: Dee Rees Cast: Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, Edi Gathegi, Mel Rodriguez. Toby Jones, Willem Dafoe Critic’s Notes: A pure disappointment, given the huge talent on and behind the camera, The Last Thing He Wanted adapted an enriching source material about journalism and does nothing with it. Ironically, the title is enough a sign. Dishonorable Mentions: Christmas in the Rockies, Come Away, A Fall From Grace, Hillbilly Elegy, Wild Mountain Thyme

Pastor Artur Pawlowski arrested before preaching at Canadian trucker convoy By Ryan Foley, Christian Post Reporter
https://www.christianpost.com/news/pastor-arrested-before-preaching-at-canadian-trucker-convoy.html
Pastor Artur Pawlowski, who has butted heads with Canadian authorities throughout the pandemic, was arrested again just before he was set to address a group of Canadian truckers opposed to vaccine mandates.
Pawlowski of the Cave of Adallum Church and Street Church in Calgary, Alberta, was arrested at his home Tuesday as he was about to depart for a church service at a border blockade engineered by truckers protesting vaccine mandates and provincial leadership in Milk River, Alberta.
Pawlowski has gained notoriety in Canada and the United States for his outspoken opposition to coronavirus worship restrictions and has been arrested multiple times over the past year for holding a church service in violation of worship restrictions and protesting outside the home of Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping.
Videos documenting Pawlowski’s tense exchanges with local law enforcement officials seeking to enforce coronavirus restrictions, where the pastor refers to them as “Nazis” and the “Gestapo,” have gone viral.
Video footage of Pawlowski’s most recent arrest was posted to the pastor’s YouTube channel Tuesday.
A law enforcement official informed Pawlowski that he was under arrest for “mischief.” As with his previous arrests, Pawlowski refused to walk with law enforcement. The officers lamented that he refused to “just stand up” and elected to “go dead fish” before carrying him away to the police car.
While Pawlowski remained quiet throughout most of the video, his brother Dawid confronted the officers, repeatedly referring to them as “Nazis” and “criminals” before urging them to “treat him with respect.” Pastor Pawlowski told the officers, “I do not cooperate with Nazis.”
Ezra Levant of Rebel News, which has supported Pawlowski in his ongoing legal battles with local government, elaborated on the events leading up to the arrest based on information he received from the pastor’s son, Nathaniel.
“There was an undercover police van staked out surveilling the family home,” Levant reported.
“They grabbed his dad, Artur Pawlowski, arrested him and took him off to jail,” he added.
According to Levant, the officers were “stopping him from going to speak to the trucker blockade down in Coutts, Alberta.”
Levant cited “the Calgary police literally arresting a Christian pastor who was planning on speaking to a peaceful protest” as the latest example of how “this is not the Canada that you thought that you were in.” He contended that the country had transformed into an “authoritarian Canada that’s verging on a police state.”
“This was clearly an attempt to stop him from expressing himself politically to these truckers,” Levant concluded. Members of Pawlowski’s family reacted to his arrest in a subsequent interview with Rebel News.
Nathaniel Pawlowski told the news outlet that “We were getting ready to head to Milk River; my dad was going to perform a church service for them there.” Before they could depart, the pastor was arrested for causing mischief by “blockading infrastructure” in a previous appearance at the protest.
He recalled that “they were staking out our home for hours, waiting for him to leave the house and then they grabbed him ... right before he could go perform his duties as a clergyman.”
Dawid Pawlowski recounted that the arrest occurred after the pastor’s wife took their younger children to school.
Artur and Dawid Pawlowski emigrated to Canada from Poland. The pastor went viral last year when he compared the actions of the provincial authorities to what he saw growing up behind the Iron Curtain.
Pastor Pawlowski addressed his arrest in a phone call from prison, describing Calgary Chief of Police Mark Neufeld as a “disgrace to the uniform” and offering similar criticism of Alberta Premier Jason Kenney. Pawlowski accused Kenney of hypocrisy for not abiding by the coronavirus restrictions he imposed on the people of Alberta.
Nearly two years into the coronavirus pandemic, outrage over coronavirus restrictions and mandates in Canada extends far beyond Pawlowski.
The Freedom Convoy, a group of truckers primarily concentrated in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, was established to protest the mandate requiring all truckers who travel across the U.S.-Canada border as part of their job to take the coronavirus vaccine or quarantine upon re-entry into the country. Truckers have walked off the job to participate in the weeks-long demonstration.
Many truckers descended on Ottawa in late January to protest Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about their concerns, but truckers have spread out all across the U.S.-Canada border, in some cases, blocking border crossings, occupying roadways and clogging Ottowa’s downtown for days. The protests have also spread to other cities.
Many Canadians and Americans donated to the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to help cover the costs of the truckers’ expenses.
However, the platform removed the fundraiser from its website because of “multiple discussions with local law enforcement and police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.” The Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo has become the new home for fundraising efforts on behalf of the truckers who are seeking donations “to help with the cost of fuel first, and hopefully food and lodging to help ease the pressures of this arduous task.”
As of Thursday morning, the GiveSendGo fundraiser has raised just over $8 million. Government opposition to the Freedom Convoy is not limited to Alberta.
Trudeau condemned the multiracial group of protesters for perpetuating “antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Black racism, homophobia, and transphobia.” Ottawa police officers and city officials have seized fuel from truckers and those seeking to provide fuel for the truckers because they believe it is helping contribute to the “mischief” the truckers are causing in the capital city.
The Justice Centre, a legal organization that supports the Freedom Convoy, has criticized the seizure of fuel as illegal and unjustified. Justice Centre Counsel Nicholas Wansbutter described “taking fuel from Canadian citizens in the downtown Ottawa area” as “an illegal seizure in a context where no crimes are being committed, and no charges were laid against truckers or anyone else.”
“In my view, the truckers are not doing anything illegal by protesting peacefully against the 23 months of politicians restricting our Charter freedoms,” he stated. “Citizens have every right to bring food, water, fuel, and other necessities of life in the winter to other Canadians, including truckers.”

Trump Administration Restricts Entry Into U.S. From China
Tumblr media
Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency. The temporary restrictions followed announcements by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines that they would suspend air service between the United States and China for several months. The travel disruption sent shocks through the stock market and rattled industries that depend on the flow of goods and people between the world’s two largest economies. Planning was upended for companies across a vast global supply chain, from Apple to John Deere, the tractor company. The S&P 500 suffered its worst loss since October, falling 1.8 percent, as the spread of the virus — and the increasingly urgent efforts by companies and governments to contain it — fanned fears of an economic slowdown. The government travel restrictions, which will take effect on Sunday evening, were announced by Alex Azar, the secretary of health and human services, who declared that the coronavirus posed “a public health emergency in the United States.”The administration’s action will restrict all foreign nationals who have been to China in the past 14 days from entering the United States. The restriction does not include immediate family members of American citizens and permanent residents. Nearly three million Chinese residents traveled to the United States in 2018, according to federal data based on travel records. The travel restrictions and the airline’s announcements showed how rapidly concerns about the virus have escalated into a grave test of the global economy, for which there is no recent precedent. Three weeks after the first virus-related death was reported, China has found itself increasingly cut off from its biggest trading partner, the United States, and many other nations.Chinese officials said on Saturday that there had been an additional 46 deaths in the country, the most so far in a 24-hour period, raising the death toll to 259. It said confirmed infections had grown to nearly 12,000, from 1,300 a week earlier.About 100 cases have been confirmed across 21 other countries, including at seven reported cases in the United States. Russia, Italy and Britain each reported their first infections on Friday, two from each country. The four patients in Italy and Russia were Chinese citizens, the authorities there said; Britain did not release any details. To address the outbreak, China has extended the Lunar New Year holiday, which was to have ended Thursday, into next week. In cities across the country, including those far from the center of the outbreak, there were eerie scenes Friday of all-but-empty streets and highways, closed shops, trains without passengers and nearly deserted public spaces that are normally packed. The slowdown in activity has raised fears that essential supplies, including food, will run short, which the government insists it will not allow to happen. And it is unclear when China’s economic engine — a huge producer of both consumer goods and industrial components — might return to anything resembling normal. Many companies said they were relatively well positioned for the disruption, thanks in part to the recent easing of the trade tensions between China and the United States. Faced with the threat of tariffs, many companies — particularly retailers — had stocked up on imports from China, or found suppliers in other parts of Asia. But if the restrictions in China are kept in place for many months and the virus keeps spreading, profits will suffer.Forsake, a footwear company based in Boston, has most of its supply chain and production facility in Zhongshan in southeastern China. The company received its spring orders before the annual holiday closing and is stocked through July. After that, said Sam Barstow, the president and chief operating officer, who knows?“We don’t really know what we’re planning for,” Mr. Barstow said.Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said on an earnings call this week that many of its suppliers’ factories in China would remain closed until Feb. 10.Apple had closed one retail store in China, and said traffic into its stores across China had decreased in recent days. Apple is frequently “deep cleaning” its stores and regularly checking the temperature of its employees there, Mr. Cook said. The airlines are also braced for prolonged turmoil. American said all of its flights between the United States and mainland China were being suspended immediately, through March 27.United and Delta said their flights on those routes would be suspended by next Thursday. United said it expected to resume operations on March 28, while Delta said its suspension would last through April 30. The three airlines accounted for more than a third of all travel between China and the United States in 2018.In 2018, more than 8.5 million passengers traveled between the United States and China, according to data from the United States Transportation Department. Most flew on a handful of Chinese airlines, none of which immediately responded to requests for comment Friday on any plans to halt or modify service. The coronavirus has already sickened more people than the outbreak of the SARS virus did in the eight-month outbreak of 2002 and 2003.The SARS outbreak coincided with a relatively brief slowdown of global growth in early 2003, which was followed by a sharp rebound.SARS, however, is an imperfect comparison because at the time China represented just 5 percent of the global economy. In 2019, China accounted for about 18 percent, according to JPMorgan Chase economists.“The much larger role of China in the global economy versus 2003 implies much greater global spillover risks,” the bank wrote in a research note on Friday. On Wednesday, the JPMorgan Chase economists cut their forecast for Chinese economic growth sharply for the first quarter to incorporate the impact of the virus. They now expect that the Chinese economy will grow at an annualized rate of 4.9 percent in the first quarter, down from the 6.3 percent pace they previously predicted. The new forecasts reflect the expectation of sharp decelerations in retail sales, industrial production and business investment. But the forecast also calls for a strong rebound in economic activity in the second quarter, as the impact of the outbreak dissipates.Concerns about global growth have pushed the benchmark American oil price below $52 a barrel, from more than $60 at the start of the year, and have sent the shares of energy companies lower. Tech stocks have also suffered, with particular weakness in the semiconductor sector, which is closely linked to supply chains based in and around China. On Thursday, the State Department raised its travel advisory to Level 4 — “Do not travel” — a rating reserved for situations in which the government expects to have very limited ability to help citizens abroad. The World Health Organization declared a global health emergency because of the spreading virus, though it opposed restrictions on travel or trade with China.Mr. Azar, the United States health secretary, and other members of a Trump administration task force emphasized on Friday that the current risk to the American public from the coronavirus was low.But the drastic travel restriction suggested that the risks in the United States could grow quickly and unpredictably.Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a Washington briefing that the actions were being taken because there were “a lot of unknowns” surrounding the virus and its transmission path. Unlike influenza, which is fairly predictable in terms of infection and mortality, Dr. Fauci said there was not the same certainty about the rate and path of the coronavirus transmission.“The number of cases have steeply inclined with every day,” Dr. Fauci said.In addition to the restrictions on foreign nationals traveling from China, the United States will begin funnel all flights from China to just a few airports, including Kennedy International in New York, O’Hare in Chicago and San Francisco International.Officials said any American citizen returning to the United States from the Hubei Province in China, where the outbreak is centered, would be subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine. Any American returning to the country who has visited the rest of mainland China within the last 14 days will undergo proactive entry health screening at selective ports of entry. The government also imposed a two-week quarantine on 195 people who were evacuated on Wednesday from Wuhan, China, to a California military base. Some public health and policy experts said the restrictions announced Friday, weeks after the virus was discovered in China, might not do as much officials hoped in containing the contagion. At this point, sharply curtailing air travel to and from China is more of an emotional or political reaction, said Dr. Michael T. Osterholm, an epidemiologist and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.“The cow’s already out of the barn,” he said, ”and we’re now talking about shutting the barn door.”Reporting was contributed by Matt Phillips, Patricia Cohen, Niraj Chokshi, Jack Nicas, Knvul Sheikh, Russell Goldman, Chris Buckley, Elaine Yu, Richard C. Paddock, Richard Perez-Peña, Elisabetta Povoledo and Jason Horowitz. Read the full article

Greatest moments of #Family in The Fast and the Furious
By Clay Keller
Any true fan of the The Fast and the Furious franchise, or, really, any human person who has seen a trailer or any press tour interviews for The Fast and the Furious franchise, knows that what truly drives these films aren’t the increasingly insane car stunts or the increasingly insane biceps of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. The entire world knows that what drives the Fast and The Furious franchise is its increasingly insane dedication to the idea of family.
Whether it’s a literal family, comprised of people who are actually related to each other, or a made family, comprised of people who like risking their lives in cars together, there is nothing that Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) cares about more than the people around whatever table he happens to be sitting at, drinking a Corona. He does it, as a song from the Furious 7 soundtrack elucidates, “all for the family.”
So, for the next few minutes, let’s forget the cars jumping onto boats, bank vaults wiping out first floors of buildings, and cargo planes exploding on the world’s longest runways, and focus on the all-time best moments of family in this eight-film juggernaut action franchise that began as a low-rent Point Break clone about street racers who steal DVD players.
(Full disclosure: The author truly adores these movies and any snarkiness of tone is meant in the spirit of loving, familial, ribbing.)
(Warning: This piece will feature 26 uses of the word “family.” 27, including that one.)
“Sean’s Dad Stops Him From Getting Killed” - The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Tumblr media
Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) has pretty lousy parents. His mother, overwhelmed by Sean’s housing development-destroying shenanigans, ships him off to Japan, where his estranged military man father spends most of the film being annoyed by Sean’s indifference to curfews.
The bar for family moments is so low in this Walker and (mostly) Diesel-less entry, that it’s actually kind of touching when Sean’s dad (Brian Goodman) comes out of nowhere, gun in hand, to stop the Drift King (Brian Tee)  from killing his son. Major Boswell may be a distant alcoholic who thinks his son is a disrespectful ne'er do well, but damn if he’ll let him get shot dead at his front door.
This act of paternal protection leads to a nice little conversation about responsibility, then Boswell the elder disappears into the Tokyo night, never to be seen again. It’s a small scene, but one of the best in the film. Shockingly, for all of the focus on family and fathers throughout the course of this series, Sean is the only character whose parents we actually meet.
Until Fate, that is.
“Daddy’s Gotta Coach a Soccer Game” - The Fate of the Furious
Tumblr media
The opening moments of F. Gary Gray’s The Fate of the Furious find DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) facing his greatest threat yet: that the Dragons might lose the championship and he’ll have to take a dozen heartbroken little girls out for manicures.
Ignoring the suits who come bearing a new mission, Hobbs leads his daughters soccer team in a traditional Polynesian Haka dance, giving them the strength and confidence to score more goals than the other team, and thus win the game. The moms don’t mind having him there, either.
The complete devotion Hobbs has to his daughter is sweet, and seeing a building-sized superhuman like The Rock insist on doing suburban dad activities is always great. Maybe in #F9 daddy will have to build IKEA bunk beds or chaperone a middle school dance. I think what I’m saying is that I want the inevitable Hobbs spin-off to be a remake of Definitely, Maybe.
“Family BBQ, Original Recipe” - The Fast and the Furious
Tumblr media
Every Toretto family BBQ is special, but you never forget your first.
Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) was definitely “sandwich crazy,” but flirtations with Mia (Jordana Brewster) aside, this may be the moment that his allegiances began shifting from the LAPD to the ragtag found family of street racing criminals he was sent to investigate. Remember, Brian is a father-less latchkey kid from Barstow who spent the majority of his youth hanging around demolition derbies and roughhousing with Roman Pierce. For him, the entire experience of a Toretto BBQ must have been overwhelming. The bountiful table! The loving banter! From Jesse’s (Chad Lindberg) charmingly stilted recitation of grace, to papa Dom’s forgiveness of misbehaving child Vince (Matt Schulze), when he sheepishly returns and wants a plate, Brian had never seen anything like it before. And it shows: Paul Walker plays the whole scene with the most wonderful doofy grin.
In a deleted scene, Brian tells Dom, Letty, and the rest of his new friends that the BBQ they’re having “feels like family.” While the use of the literal word “family” wouldn’t become pervasive until later in the series, the idea was born here, the first time that Brian O’Conner truly felt at home.
“Family Hug” - Fast Five
Tumblr media
Dom and Brian have been “brothers” ever since the night of that very first street race in The Fast and The Furious, when, as everyone else fled, Brian went back to help Dom evade arrest. “The ‘buster’ kept me out of handcuffs…” Dom tells less-brave family member Vince, using, for the first time, what will become Brian’s unusually endearing nickname, “... the ‘buster’ brought me back.” From there the brotherhood would only grow. It had it’s ups (Brian letting Dom escape at the end of 1, Brian annihilating a prison bus to free Dom in 5) and it’s downs (Dom finding out Brian’s a cop) but family is family.
So, naturally, one of the best “family moments” in the Fast and Furious lineage is in Fast Five, when family becomes family. It happens in a favela spillway in Rio. Dom, Mia, and Brian have just escaped (a pre-family) Hobbs, and are planning their next move. Dom suggests they split up. Mia doesn’t like that idea, you see, she’s pregnant. Brian is elated. Uncle Dom spends a moment in silent reflection, as he’s want to do. Then, grinning from ear to ear, he pulls his sister and brother in for the single best hug of the franchise. “Our family just got a little bigger,” he says.
Just like that our heroes went from “brothers” to brothers, and the guiding mythos of The Fast and the Furious was set in stone.
Which is family, in case that wasn’t clear.
“A Day at the Beach” - Furious 7
Tumblr media
Ex-cop Brian begins 2015’s Furious 7 questioning his decision to settle down and be a dad. He “misses the bullets,” and his minivan doesn’t have quite the same get up and go as the Nos-ed up Skylines he’s grown accustomed to as part of Dom Toretto’s team of gearhead superheroes for hire.
After two hours of dangling over cliffs, jumping Lambos through skyscrapers, and being forced to fight Tony Jaa multiple times, he comes to the conclusion that maybe life in the slow lane isn’t so bad after all.
Brian’s choice of “family over repeated hand to hand combat with Tony Jaa” becomes clear in the penultimate scene of the film, when, after successfully securing the “God’s Eye” and defeating Jason Statham, the gang puts on their flowiest linen shirts and hits the beach.
While Brian plays in the surf with his wife and son, the team looks on, making the bittersweet observation that he finally looks happy, and that this is where he’s always belonged: with his family. Then Dom stands up and, uh, says something. And then the scene with the two cars driving in different directions?
(Full disclosure: the author intended to carefully rewatch this scene for the purposes of this article, but started crying almost immediately and had to turn it off)
It’s a beautiful, and surprisingly tasteful, scene, and a perfect send off for the O’Conner family.

Betta Lovers Guide.

Betta Lovers Guide.
 Buy Now
From: Marcus Song Written: Saturday, 9:07 A.M.
Dear Fellow Betta Lover,
Alone in the bathroom, feeling helpless as my kids cried. I’d just had to flush Ruddy, our beloved betta fish, down the toilet.
On a cold, bleak winter day a few years ago, that was the final sad result of the first betta fish I’d bought.
It shouldn’t have ended up that way. I remember the first time I went into a pet store and saw that majestic looking betta, bright red with flowing fins, crammed into a tiny little plastic cup.
There wasn’t enough room for him to swim. Heck, he couldn’t even move. Nor could he even spread out those amazing fins.
So I decided I had to buy that noble fish. I had to save his life and give him the happiness he deserved after being treated so cruelly by the pet store.
But only a few months after taking him home, I failed. It seemed like even though I did everything I thought I should, my betta still died.
I tried again with other bettas. They did okay (living average lifespans), but it seemed like there would always be something wrong with them. A betta would stop eating for days. The next week another betta’s beautiful fins would split… and then never heal… no matter what I did.
Then there would be the persistent fin rot popping up on my fish.
I kept their water insanely clean. I treated them like pampered royalty, catering to all their wants. I followed all the instructions I could.
But still, there was always something. I got so tired of it. I’m a grown man — which makes me ashamed to admit this — but there were days I broke down and cried. I love bettas and want to do everything I can for them.
About the only thing I had going for me was my persistence — my ability to do in-depth research and my drive to become a good “betta parent.”
I figured it might be a waste of time, but I kept up my research… for 4 years, spending a total of $12,400 in the process. I interviewed betta fish experts (even traveling to Thailand on one occasion and Singapore another time, to pick the brains of the world’s foremost betta experts).
I bought all the products I could find (exotic fish foods, every conceivable tank accessory, etc.), learning everything about them.
I intensely studied everything I could to discover the insider secrets. I spent literally thousands of hours toiling on the Internet, burying myself in stacks of books at the library, and buying up and devouring every book on fish I could find.
And what I uncovered changed the life of my bettas in a big, big way.
You see, I went from this frustrated, aggravated guy who was ready to give up on trying to keep bettas…
To suddenly finding myself with thriving bettas swimming happily in their tanks… where anyone who came over to our house would be enchanted by their bright colors and magnificent fins… and then would literally beg me to teach them my secrets.
My friends would tell me of their bad experiences with bettas. It was too much work to keep the water clean… or their bettas got sick… or they had to spend so much money it was no longer worth the hassle if their betta’s health was just going to wither away no matter what they did.
Do These Downsides of Owning a Betta Sound Familiar?
Since becoming an expert when it comes to bettas… and getting into breeding them professionally (I now own 207 bettas!)… I have experienced not only my own problems in the beginning but also heard so many horror stories from people.
Below are unedited examples of things people wrote to me when I was putting together my guide:
“I feel frustrated because I had to replace yet another water heater. It cost me $30. Not to mention the cost of gas to drive to the pet store. Plus the 2 hours of my life that I spent going on my pet store errand. And on top of that, I still wasn’t even sure that I’d gotten the right water heater!” – Jason M., Sacramento, California
Jason went on to tell me how the hobby of betta keeping cost him a hundred times more than he thought it would.
That is how, he concluded, the pet stores suck you in. They cram bettas into cups so tiny they can’t even stretch their fins. You feel sorry for the bettas and buy one of them for 5 or 10 dollars… take him home… and then find out you then have to buy hundreds of dollars of equipment — which might not even work!
Here’s what one woman said who was ready to quit keeping bettas:
“My bettas get sick so much of the time and so many of them die. It makes me feel like an awful fish mommy. It takes so much anguish to nurse them back to health, or they die and I have to cry about the horrible loss of my pet.” – Jill Stevens, of Atlanta, Georgia
I heard from a lot of other frustrated betta owners as well:
“It’s too much work. I hate having to change the water so much.” – Jeff P., Barstow, California
“Mopes around with no energy and I donno what to do.” – William Tan, Singapore
“I worry that my betta will be okay if I take a vacation and leave him home for a few days.” – Julie Boyd, SeaTac, Washington
“Will the water heater break and then cause a fire that burns down my house? Will the aquarium leak and flood, causing thousands of dollars in structural damage to my house?” – Jason M., Sacramento, California
Bettas Don’t Have to be Complicated… If You Use the Methods I Will Give You
In fact, bettas can be very low maintenance. They can be inexpensive to take care of. They can be happy and healthy. And it’s easy to do with the information you’ll discover in the coveted guide I created.
More on that in a minude, but first…
Do You Know Why People Like Bettas So Much?
1. Their amazing good looks. Everyone’s amazed by the rich colors of my bettas and their dramatic fins. They’re stunning little creatures. In my large collection of bettas I’ve got everything you can imagine. There’s Rusty, who’s red with shiny green fins. Kermit, who’s green. Marvin, my marble. Sunny, my solid yellow. Mermaid, my turquoise beauty.
2. Bettas have personality, unlike so many other types of fish. They wag their tails, have minds of their own, and enchant people with their cute antics. To display their personality they do need to be healthy and happy though, and I’ll give you the secrets to make it easy for you.
3. They’re addictive! Once you unlock the secrets of how to care for them, how can you not fall in love with the sight of their wiggly, vibrant bodies excited to see you? How can you not become fascinated by all of those radiant colors swimming around?
The Secrets of Having Cheerful, Peppy, and Long-Lived Betta Fish… Without Having to Spend a Lot of Cash… And Without Ever Having to Do Much Work!
You see, once you have these secrets all the “work” of caring for betta fish will be done for you… automatically!
You can just “flip on” the ideal conditions… and… instantly bring stunning… and thriving… bettas into your life!
And rest assured: my guide isn’t just some picture book like you find in the pet stores. You know what I mean — they have incredible pictures of bettas, but the text itself is just fluff and filler.
Instead my guide is packed with useful information gleaned from the most hush-hush secrets revealed to me by betta breeders to raise the most incredible fish. They work for anyone, anywhere and at any time (no matter how bad of a “betta parent” you think you are right now).
Taking care of your betta is easy and inexpensive. Caring For Betta Fish: An Insider’s Guide For Betta Lovers by Marcus Song will show you how!
Not too long ago, I package up all these secrets in a concise package I call Caring For Betta Fish: An Insider’s Guide For Betta Lovers.
Rather than having to go through a struggle, you can simply read what’s in my guide and easily discover all the advanced secrets contained within… without having to go through all of the toil and expense that I did. And — without making all the mistakes that I did.
I wrote it in plain, conversational English that’s easy to follow. Even if you’ve never owned a betta before and don’t know the first thing about them (other than you want one). As a complete system, my guide will reveal to you everything you need to know about your bettas.
Some people call it the lazy person’s way to easy betta fish care. It’ll save you so much time and worry (not to mention money) that you can start enjoying your bettas for a change.
Here’s a quick look at just a few of the valuable techniques I share with you:
The ideal water temperature, thoroughly tested by 27 expert breeders, to keep a betta’s tank. Water temperature is extremely important. It can make your fish lively (not sluggish) and even keep destructive bacteria to a minimum so that your Betta is happy and healthy. I also reveal how you can keep the water temperature at that ideal level. (Page 24.)
When you put a betta into a brand new tank, there can often be high levels of ammonia build-up, which makes your fish sick. You’ll learn how to avoid that, using my very private “seeding” method. (Page 25)
Good news: despite what you might have heard, bettas don’t necessarily have to live by themselves, as long as you follow these 9 rules. (Page 22)
You an even have two males in the same tank together (and they won’t fight with each other!) under these special conditions. (Page 21)
Learn what the best food is to give your betta and why. You’ll also learn what treats should only be given in moderation. You won’t need to worry anymore about whether you’re feeding your betta nourishing foods, since you’ll know what exactly to do. (Chapter 6)
Plus… what to do if your betta won’t eat. Don’t be alarmed. Just follow these two simple steps. (Page 32)
The exact time of day, according to biologists, when it’s best to feed your betta. (Page 34)
A guide to boosting your betta’s life expectancy. It’s normal to become highly attached to your little one. Follow these unbreakable rules and your Betta will be alive and thriving for as long as possible. (Page 49)
What you must do before bringing home your new pet betta. Doing this simple series of steps can avoid having your fish die from “New Tank Syndrome.” (Page 20)
What it means when the tank keeps getting a foul smell even though you cleaned it… and what you can do to get rid of the odor once and for all. (Page 32)
Give even the most aggressive male bettas the best possible life of socializing with other bettas — without any risk whatsoever of there being a fight! (Page 13)
Bettas have a unique ability to breathe the same air we do. Discover why this means bettas should be in a different kind of tank than other types of fish — and how specifically to make your tank “betta-friendly” so your little one can breathe as easily as possible. (Page 8)
How to safely and humanely prevent your Betta from jumping out of his bowl. (Bettas must not dry out — which is what could happen if they jump out of their bowl — causing them to die.) (Page 8)
My very private method of giving your betta the means to live a long, vigorous life. (Page 13)
If you ever are going to take your betta to a show competition, your little guy will need to flare for the judges. I’ll show you an easy, insider’s trick used by top betta breeders to get them to flare practically on command. Even if you’ll never go to a show, this trick will make your friends ask you what your secret is. (Page 13)
If you do decide to get your betta from a pet store (as most hobbyists do) watch for these 7 danger signs and you’ll maximize the chances of bringing home a happy betta. (Page 16)
The 7 steps of introducing your betta to his new environment. (I cover everything from the best place to put your betta’s tank to how exactly to put him into the new tank so that he doesn’t go into shock and possibly die) (Page 19)
How to train your betta to swim around the tank in whatever pattern you command. Your friends will be dazzled! (Page 55)
Does It Seem Like No Matter What You Do, There’s Always Something Wrong With Your Betta?
That is a common problem. You see, bettas die easily.
And the death of a Betta can be devastatingly sad for those who experience it. Your friends simply don’t understand that it’s not “just a fish.” It’s your baby that you loved and looked after with all your heart.
I have experienced this all too well myself.
Ever want to see how many people give up on the hobby of keeping bettas (and fish in general)? Check out your local newspaper’s classifieds. There’ll be tanks and aquariums for sale — and maybe even fish themselves.
It’s just one thing after another. Eventually what was once a fun, relaxing hobby… becomes a big headache having to deal with one health issue after another. And the worst part about it is that it’s not your fault, because you did the best you could!
That’s why I provide a complete Troubleshooting Guide that will list every symptom of illness. It then reveals what the possible causes of the symptoms are — then tells you what exactly to do about them. It’s like having your own fish expert right there at your beck and call. No matter what the problem is you’re having — and no matter what time of day — the expert is right there to take you by the hand and help you.
In the Troubleshooting Guide you’ll learn what it means when you see these symptoms, and what you can do to easily solve them:
Your bettas lose their appetite and become sluggish. (Page 36)
Your betta has cloudy eyes. (Page 43)
You see split or shredded fins. (Page 38)
Your betta loses color or develops horizontal stripes. (Page 39)
Your betta’s body is swollen. You may see him floating on his side at the top of the water unable to balance himself. Maybe he even has trouble breathing. (Page 40)
One or both of your betta’s eyes are bulging. Your betta may also lose his appetite and become less energetic. (Page 45)
Your betta’s fins are withering away and disintegrating. (Page 46)
What to do about ick, a condition where your betta has small white spots on his skin and fins that look like salt crystals. Ick is a bacterial infection that drains your fish’s energy until he dies. The good news is that you can add this substance (available at any grocery store) to your betta’s tank. This is a much cheaper option than buying expensive ick medication — and usually is just as effective. (Page 41)
What exactly to do about fin rot so that it heals and never comes back. (Page 45.)
Three signs that the water could be poisoning your Betta… and three recommended, reliable ways to check for poison… and then remedy the situation. (Page 36.)
I wrote the Troubleshooting portion of my betta guide to be your permanent resource… right there at your fingertips whenever you need it. Even years from now, you’ll be able to pull up — in seconds — everything you need to know to keep your betta healthy.
Did You Know There’s An Easy Way To Reduce the Amount of Water Changes You Have to Do by 70% to 80%?
You don’t need to be a math whiz to know that cleaner water means that much less work! Here’s the secret: You can do this using a decorative plant you can put into your betta’s aquarium that eats up nitrites and ammonia that your betta produces as waste products.
That means you won’t need to clean your tank as often, and your Betta will be happier and healthier, since he’ll be swimming in cleaner water.
The best part about this plant is how easy it is to grow, as it doesn’t require direct sunlight, doesn’t lay roots, and sinks right to the bottom of the tank.
And it’ll make your aquarium look so much more beautiful — not to mention your fish will love resting on its leaves! I reveal the step by step instructions… as well as showing you places you can get this plant easily and cheaply (and it’s not your local pet store)… on page 26.
That’s just the beginning. You’ll also discover…
Does your betta need to be in a larger tank? Watch for these 3 warning signs that indicate your little one feels too confined. (Page 8)
Are you stuck on what to name your betta? It can be a challenge since you’re pretty much stuck with whatever name you choose. And if you have a good name, you’ll feel so much closer to your fish. Well, all you need to do is answer this one simple question, and you’ll be able to easily come up with a name. (Page 21)
Do not, under any circumstances, place your tank in either of these areas, because it could cause your betta to die. (Page 25)

Whenever you need to transport your betta (like when you move or when you take your betta home from the pet store)… follow these 9 rules and you’ll make sure your little one arrives alive at your house. (Page 18)
Did you know that there is a high death rate of bettas introduced to a new aquarium? It’s caused by a lack of beneficial bacteria. I’ll give you the 6 certain steps you need to take to avoid having your bettas get poisoned this way. (Page 20)
You probably know you should NEVER put two males in the same aquarium together. However, there’s an exception to the rule, using this top secret technique to simulate conditions from nature, which allows you to get away with having up to two males (and 4 or so females) together in a 10+ gallon tank… with zero problems whatsoever! (Page 22)
If you’ve been using bottled water for your betta, you’ve been wasting your money. I’ll show you the best kind of water to use (and no, it’s not water from directly out of your tap). (Page 28)

If you buy a used tank, use these special ingredients (NOT soap, which can harm your betta) to make the tank clean and safe for your little one. (Page 25)
Sometimes an overly excited male betta will bite his own tail, resulting in injury. Use these 5 specific steps to create a soothing environment that stops this harmful behavior. (Page 14)

Secrets the Pet Stores Don’t Want You to Know
Many pet stores unfortunately just see the money involved and couldn’t care less about the animals they sell. That’s why they cram bettas into those tiny cups. More bettas in more tiny cups means more money for them.
What pet stores don’t tell you is how expensive they make betta keeping for you. Sure you can buy that poor betta who you’re saving from a life of being crammed into that tiny cup… but then you discover that heaters and other equipment cost a lot more than they told you it would. (But the problem is you don’t know what equipment to get!)
Then on top of that the pet stores make money when your fish die. Why? Because you’re just going to buy more fish of course!
They don’t always intend to be money grubbing of course. The typical pet store employee simply counts the hours till they can clock out of work and go get more beer and cigarettes. Certainly compassion for the animals… or for your wallet… does not mean a thing to them.
Well, the good news is that with my guide you can save your money. I reveal to you all of the secrets that the pet stores don’t want you to know. You’ll be laughing all the way to bank as you discover one money-saving tip after another.
Please take a look at what some of my readers have said…
“Just downloaded your book(s) yesterday, I’m about halfway through Caring for Betta Fish and thoroughly enjoying it! As was stated on your website I’m sorry that I didn’t download them sooner.”
– John Shewchuk Sarasota, FL
“I am so glad you wrote this book! I went to two major book stores in my area. They had betta books, but nothing specific enough to feel comfortable on how to care for the fish. Now I feel confident about helping my fish to live in an appropriate environment. Thanks so much.”
– Esther Hopper
“Thanks Marc: These are the two most energetic bettas I’ve had, or I’m just learning better ways of keeping them healthy. Your publications are very helpful.”
– Vicky Gonzales
“Marc,
I just wanted to thank you so much for your valuable information which saved me literally hundreds of dollars. Without your e-book I would have experimented (and made mistakes with) the wrong kind of tank heater and filter, the wrong sized tank, and wasted money on all the chemicals pushed at the pet store. I’m one of those people who wasted money years ago on a fancy aquarium, only to have it gather dust in my attic and be a constant reminder of how much money I’ve blown.
Thanks for your book. I know it will helpful to many.”
– Michael Blair
Miami, FL
“Dear Marcus,
I liked that your book is a complete betta owner’s manual. As a new owner looking for the basics, you gave me all of the practicalities I needed in order to give my betta the daily care he needs. Yours is a great source of in-depth information and helped me with the questions I had.”
– Jill Stevens

In fact, you can check out my betta care system for free if you want. That’s because I offer an unconditional 100% money-back guarantee.
That means you can grab my guide, Caring for Betta Fish: An Insider’s Guide For Betta Lovers, with an open mind, knowing that you’re using it risk-free.

Then, if you’re not completely delighted with the way my guide improves the quality of life for your betta (and for you!), I’ll refund every penny to you — no questions asked. You don’t even need to give a reason — your word is good enough.
But wait a minute, you must be wondering. You offer a money-back guarantee on an ebook?
That’s right…
A 100% Money-Back Guarantee.
I know. That sounds crazy.
But the truth is this: since you’ll be downloading my guide onto your computer, if you ask for a refund, I have no way to “get it back.” In fact, a few unethical people will come to this site with the full intention of getting a refund and ripping me off.
I don’t think you’ll do that, because as someone who has saved the life of a wonderful betta, I think you’re a good person who’s good for your word.
But here’s my guarantee: grab my guide to bettas. Take your time reading it, discovering its secrets, and applying the enormous knowledge you’ll gain.
If at any time in the next 60 days — even on day 60 — you decide you want your money back, I’ll give it to you. Right away. On the spot. With no hard feelings.
Plus you’ll have the guide. That means you’ve gotten both the insider information from my guide and the money — which shows you how strongly I stand behind my betta lover’s guide.
I only make this amazing guarantee because I know that 99.9% of the people involved in the world of bettas are honest…
…and once you’ve tried my system — and you feel totally satisfied after enjoying a new, stronger relationship with your betta…
…and you’ll realize that even $500 would have been a steal of a price…
You won’t ask for a refund.

Bonus #1: A Special Guide to Breeding Your Bettas. (A $19 value.)
You’ll discover the ins and outs — what you need to know before going into breeding, what it involves, etc. It’ll make a task that’s confusing into not so much of a challenge since you’ll have an exact roadmap of the steps to take.
There are certain exact steps you need to take to prepare the tanks, prepare your breeding pair, introduce them, get them to spawn… and then take care of the fry.
I’ve traveled the world to interview top breeders… have become a betta breeder… and will let you in on the insider secrets.
Bonus #2: The Betta Bucks Guide. (A $39 value.)
If you’re like most Betta owners, you’ve been disgusted to find that this hobby has been a lot more expensive that you thought it would be.
So if you’re ready to not have to lose so much money, I’ll take you by the hand and lead you step by step to show you where you can find wealthy Betta lovers desperate to pay you for the fish you breed. That way your entire betta hobby can be totally free — paid for by others!
The Free Bonuses Are a Combined $58 Value…
What’s the catch? That this offer is for an extremely limited time. Here’s why.
The bonuses are valuable enough by themselves to sell separately. And I’m planning to do that soon. There are only so many copies of these sensational bonuses that I’m going to give out for free.
Once this special trial period is over, the offer of free bonus materials will simply vanish. I’m sure you can understand.
Download My Guide — You’ll Be Glad You Did

Or you can get some peace of mind:
Being free from worry about whether anything will go wrong with your betta’s water, heater or tank.

Having an improved relationship with your bettas because you know so much more about them.
If you’re still thinking about getting bettas, you’ll know that you’ll be able to take great care of them.

CYPRESS — Although the Cy Woods Wildcats clenched a playoff berth Saturday, it was Cy Lakes’s high scoring basketball football game that caught attention around the state as the Spartans fell to Tomball Memorial, 73-70.
During Cy Ranch’s off week, Cy Woods more than doubled Cy Springs’ scoring, 31-15, to guarantee the Wildcats a place in the Texas high school football playoffs that begin in four weeks.
Cy Park defeated Bryan, 34-24 to move up to 2-3 in league play — only one game behind Cy Lakes.
CFISD’s Bridgeland High School skunked Langham Creek, 29-0, in Week 8 action.
Scheduled to play in Week 9 are:
Friday night, all games at 7 p.m.
Cy Springs at Bryan
Cy Lakes vs. Langham Creek
Cy Park at Tomball Memorial
Saturday, 1 p.m. kickoff
Cy Ranch vs. Cy Woods
The Bears have their bye game this week.

A win this Saturday by the #MWT Mustangs over Cy Woods has the potential to throw a monkey wrench into the District 14-6A championship. Combined with a Tomball Memorial victory, there would be a potential three-way tie at 5-1.
Given that a Cy Ranch victory would put leverage in the Mustangs’ favor, a potential Week 11 rematch for the 14-6A title would once again be between the Mustangs and Tomball Memorial.
Shop for Cypress football action photos here (links to Live Wild Photography).
However, a Cy Woods victory would cut short the rest of the district oppositions’ hopes for a shot at the title, as the Wildcats are off the following week and then finish the regular season against the currently 1-6 Bryan Vikings.
