Hey. Hey! HEY!!!
I've talked a bit about the tv show Sanctuary, and the goddess know as Helen Magnus played by grand empress of sci fi Amanda Tapping, so if you have ever in your life been interested to watch it-- IT'S ON TUBI.
I finally caved because I wanted to watch The Nevers, and I was browsing to build my watchlist, and it's THERE.
My poor heart. Time to get lost in the rabbit hole again....

I used to be one of those guys when I first joined the Kirby fandom, but everytime I hear a discussion of the series writing that starts with "So the Lore is InSaNe-" and not like, "Kirby has a fun writing style that takes advantage of its cute exterior to tell cool stories that reward player's curiosity and leave lots of room for imagination-" I cringe so goddamn hard.
I kinda just hate that people approach things that encourage investment when they don't expect it as inherently absurd. Like it is fun to joke about how absurd Kirby lore can be, but it really often comes with an air of disrespect or exhaustion rather than like, appreciation that these games are made by people who want to tell interesting stories when they could easily make as much money just making polished enough fluffy kiddy platformers. And when it's not met with exhaustion, it's met with - like I said before - that tone that it's stupid for a series like this TO have devs who care about writing stuff for it. Which is a whole other thing about people not respecting things made to appeal to kiddie aesthetic or tone.
Maybe the state of low-stakes YouTube video essays just blows cause people play up ignorance and disbelief for engagement, but like I STG I hear people use this tone for like actual narrative based games sometimes. Some people don't like... appreciate when a game is made by people who care a shitton in ways that aren't direct gameplay feedback. And they especially don't appreciate it when it comes from something with any sense of tonal dissonance intentional or not.
Anyways, I love games made by insane people. I love games made by teams who feel like they wanna make something work or say something so bad. I love that energy, especially when invested into something that could easily rest on its laurels or which obviously won't be taken seriously. I love this in a lot of classic campy 2000s games, I love this in insanely niche yet passionate fanworks, and I love it in the Kirby series and its writing. Can we please stop talking about it like it's an annoyance or complete joke?

me when i make regulus write a parting letter to james like:
I'm sorry your mom never liked me when I met her that once. I wish I had enough time to change her mind about me. I wish we could've met under better circumstances; maybe then, things would’ve gone differently. I think about it all now and then- that summer I visited your house. All the flowers were in bloom, and the air smelled so sweet. You had a cat named Champ. Do you remember when I reached down to pet her and she purred and offered up her whiskered cheek to my palm? You looked at me like I belonged there, at your house. In your life. I knew then that I’d never see that cat again. I'm sorry you didn't. I'm sorry you believed in me enough for the both of us.

So... this post is going to be quite different from my usual "blorbo-posting" and fandom related shenanigans, but I really want to put this out there, make my position clear, and maybe alert others who haven't heard this unfortunate news yet.
I am an avid horror film fan. I am always seeking out any and every new release. So I was eagerly anticipating getting to see Late Night with the Devil when it came out today.
Unfortunately, now that the film's creators themselves have confirmed that A.I. art was used within the film, I absolutely will not be supporting this movie.
It's hugely disappointing to me that a movie - and an independent movie at that! - would resort to using generative A.I. in this manner and I'm appalled at the creators of the film for doing this.
And I've already seen the bandwagon counter-arguments on reddit, so let me be clear: I don't care how "minor" the presence of the art is in the film. I care that this was done at all. These are the types of "baby-steps" that have led to A.I. being such a prolific cancer already. For it to infiltrate actual, studio-funded and released films, now?! That's too far. And for the argument of "Oh, its presence in the film is so small! It's really not that big of a deal!" I would respond that commissioning/hiring an artist to create something so "small" wouldn't have been a big deal in the grand scheme of the film's production budget, and would have been a HUGE deal for that lucky artist to get their work to be shown in a feature film. And it also wouldn't have supported the blatant art theft that is generative A.I., so that's a pretty big deal too.
Another response I'm seeing is: "How sad these people [aka: people like me who refuse to support the film in theaters because of this shit] are going to refuse to see this great film over something so minor!" To which I would say: I'm upset too, to be quite honest. I'm upset that greed and laziness in such a "minor" part of this film is going to keep me from seeing a movie that - for all intents and purposes - looks like a lot of passion was put into from the cast and crew and really looks like a horror film that would be right up my alley. But it is more important for me to stand on this principle: I absolutely refuse to support any project that contains ANY use of A.I., no matter how "insignificant" it might be. Because of course it will start small. A title card here, a poster in the background of a scene there. But is it "insignificant" or "small" to the artists whose work this A.I. is scrapping to generate its images? No, and you can be certain that it will also not be a "small" matter to other studios that see this and think that they can incorporate this abhorent technology into their films as well. A "minor" use of A.I. is a slippery fucking slope and it is NOT one that I will support or encourage.

little majorwood drabble i’m not gonna finish so tumblr can have it
“it was martyn, right?”
martyn yelps, spinning around to see scott looking far too pleased with himself. is that just his resting face? martyn wouldn’t be surprised.
“yeah- yes. it’s martyn.” he says, scrambling to regain his composure. not that he had much to begin with, anyway.
scott tilts his head ever so slightly, pressing his lips together in thought. that’s his scott alright, just.. different. he wonders if doc is laughing at him right now—martyn is a fool for this man, whatever universe they end up in.
“y’know, you seem familiar.” scott says.
“do I?” martyn says, feigning confusion. “have I met you before I came here?”
scott’s mouth slips easily into a smirk, and martyn knows what he’s about to say. “only in my dreams.”
martyn snorts, attempting to deflect how flustered he feels from that simple little line. “ah, I bet you say that to all the boys.”
“well, yes,” scott moves ever so slightly closer. “but I only mean it with a few.”
“oh, how I long to be a part of that privileged group.” martyn says dramatically. scott’s expression slips into amusement.
“alright, I guess I ought to know your name without having to ask before I make a move.” he grins.
“i’m sure I didn’t say that.” martyn winks.
it was meant to be a joke, but he swears he sees something flicker in scott’s expression—something akin to that softness martyn only got a taste of in the coral isles.
“you’re a charmer yourself, I see.” scott says, and there’s a note of gentleness that makes martyn dizzy.
“that’s me.” martyn says. “they call me the siren.”
“oh, do they?” scott says, curious as a cat.
martyn snorts. “no.”
scott laughs, and oh man, martyn is done for. “i’d like to get to know you sometime.”
martyn’s heart swoops so violently, he’s honestly slightly concerned it’s flown away. he wouldn’t be surprised, if he’s honest. “how could I say no?”

Lord of the Lost being absolute kings and staying true to their word 🏳️🌈
"Yes, I am thankful for living in a country that – other than many other countries in this world – is able to socially catch me and others. With heavy limitations of course, we could now talk in lengths about our health care system or Hartz 4 [German unemployment benefits] for example. I am not someone who will step forward and say 'Fuck the system!', because I know that without this system many here would be lost, me very likely included. At the same time, you won't see me going to ESC with a German flag, swollen with pride. And I would also refuse to run around with a German flag there if anyone were to demand me to do so. I rather hold and will vindicate the mindset that, of course, we will inevitably compete for Germany, because we are from Germany, and the concept of the ESC is to have countries vote for other countries, and somewhere you have to draw lines at such a competition. But these lines, these borders, are man-made, which is why I say that I rather want to compete for those people that are into this kind of music and who were missing – broadly speaking – alternative music at the ESC. That is how I feel about it."
