MEIN PRINZ
genre. fluff. warnings. petnames (babe, mein prinz, süßer). pairing. maki x reader. wc. 500. request. no. a/n. the author's block is so real i actually hate this fic but i'm posting it anyway... i wanna write smth better for maki soon :( also i don't know german but i am fluent in google translate 👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maki loved to tease you by calling you terms of endearment in different languages. Whether it was German, French, Japanese, Korean, English, or something else, he never seemed to run out despite dating you for months. He never failed to give you butterflies whenever he called you so sweetly with his honey-like voice.
Today, you wanted to get payback. He had been able to get you a flustered mess many times before, but you had never gotten the same reaction out of him. Of course he blushed when he confessed to you and on some dates, but you hadn’t seen the cute colour on his cheeks for a while.
He was muttering something about his plans for the next week as he typed a list into his phone, still a little sleepy from waking up recently. You weren’t sure how someone could look so pretty so early in the morning, but there were no other ways to describe Maki besides beautiful. You were noticing more and more how well he had grown into his features just over the past few months. You missed how cute he used to be, but his sharper more chiselled features definitely suited him the best.
“You used to have cheeks.”
Maki glanced up from his phone at your comment, flashing a curious smile at you, “I still have cheeks, babe.”
You shook your head, “But your cheeks used to be cute and chubby.” You leaned over, poking one of your fingers to his cheek, right where his dimple usually popped up, though it wasn’t visible at the moment.
He smiled again, his dimple forming right under your finger, “You like my cheekbones, though.”
“I do.” You sighed, turning your hand to cup his face instead, tracing a finger along his cheekbone. “Mein prinz*…” You mumbled, biting back a smile.
Maki turned to you, colour rushing to his cheeks in shock. You had rarely said anything in German without his coaching, and certainly never such an affectionate nickname. My prince.
Maki had always been the more romantic of you two; planning dates, initiating skinship, and dreaming about the future. Whenever you reciprocated that fondness back to him, it came as a surprise to him. He couldn’t help but get flustered.
“Where did you… learn that?” He questioned, “I never taught you that.”
You shrugged, “I did some research in my free time, süßer**.”
“Stop!” He laughed and hid his face behind his hands as your smile only grew from his reaction.
“Are you blushing?” You teased, trying to peek at his face by removing his hands. But he shrunk away more, evading your hands by curling up into a ball to hide just how red he had gotten. The swarm of butterflies in his stomach and the bubbling feeling in his chest accompanied by his racing heart seemed a little too excessive for just 2 pet names. But that was the effect you had on him.
“Now you know how I felt before.” You grinned victoriously.
*mein prinz = my prince **süßer = sweetie/cutie pie

omg yay!! okay so after reading that the reader in your lovely pyramid head fanfic befriended most of the killers (it was so cute😿) and comforting them, encouraging them, etc. i got an idea for a request with jiwoon!!
so, he develops a kind of weird friendship with a survivor, whos willing to listen to his music and his story in general and thay obviously boost his already gigantic ego but also it makes him completly enamored with the reader!!
and i imagine him to be really clingy and all, so he probably just suprises her by hugging her while shes repairing a gen or scrolling through the entity's realm and he gets so overprotective sometimes, he wont let anyone come near them when theyre together and keeps calling her affectionate names and other stuff bc hes in love!! why wouldnt he do that . but the surv is literally so obvious and dense she thinks those are just friendly gestures.
so um, this got really out of hand and is probably chaotic af, but based on that, could i request something about him acting like that? or just soft in general fic/drabble with jiwoon?? depends on what you feel like writing🥰
First of all, I’m so happy that you liked my work! Secondly, I hope you’ll like this too! <3
Tumblr media
Though he was the newest killer brought by the Entity, for the longest time, he never got to have his go at a trial, so he got incredibly frustrated and bored, took his bat and went into the woods by himself to hit trees and bushes by himself.
At first, he was excited to be taken in a place where he could kill at his leisure without any consequence, but what CAN he kill if he can’t go array outside of the trials, and he’s not being taken to one already?
After he’s channeled most of his frustrations on whatever vegetation he found, he started singing some of his songs and practicing his choreography out there where nobody could bother him.
Or so he thought.
He wasn’t the only one with the brilliant idea of taking a walk - You, also, took frequent walks away from the Survivor’s Camp because they were never that nice with you, hence why you got along much better with the Killers.
So when you heard some acapella singing, you got really excited and went ahead to look who’s the artist - But you were also pretty shy, so as soon as you picked up a human silhouette, you hid behind a tree and peeked at the eccentric looking man.
He was singing in Korean, and from his looks, outfit and dancing skills, he looked like a k-pop idol.
He was so talented though, you were absolutely mesmerised!
As soon as he made his final move and stopped singing, as if basking in the silent applause that he would get, should he have been at a real show... He actually DID hear clapping.
Turning around, he noticed your timid form from behind the tree, cheering on him, wearing a bashful smile on your face.
“That was really beautiful! Congratulation for you show!” he was mesmerised beyond belief --
Someone in this shithole was actually appreciating his art! He was in love! Oh, he was sooo~ in love!
He will walk all cocky towards you, putting his arm around your shoulder and pull you flushed to his chest, calling you ‘Jagi’ before he pulled out his phone to show you his full discography and pointing out at which time there were the screams of his victims synthetized, and he started explaining how he mixed them into the music, how he found out the way to manipulate the screams and grunt of pain, where to hit the person to create each sound and what not.
You didn’t care much about how macabre it sounded - You had already got used to all this chaotic mess - So you were really captivated by the whole process of creating peak art.
From then on, Jiwoon would come to the Survivor’s Camp ALL the time just to grab you by the wrist and pull you to his camp or into the forest - He’ll have you dance with him while he sang or hummed, or will have to be the spectator to his shows while he performed for you.
Sometimes you think that he has no idea what your name is, because he only calls you pet names like ‘Jagi’, ‘Jagiya’, ‘Yeobo’ or ‘Nae sarang’ and many more.
Whenever the two of you are together, he’ll keep an arm around you, sometimes his hands even wandering here and there, and would kiss your cheeks, neck or jaw, just to show off how you are his and nobody can even look at you.
His favourite time is when the two of you are in a trial and he gets to surprise you by jump-hugging you when you least expect it.
Jiwoon would drag you around the whole place just so he could show off the sounds he gets out of the victims while he mori’s them - Oh, he gets so cocky, especially when you point out which song and what part of it can fit with the same kind of scream the dead survivor made - You were really paying attention to him!
He would dip you back and pull you into a deep kiss - You really managed to stroke and inflate his ego to the maximum.
He doesn’t have much influence when in comes to keeping other killers at bay during their trial with you, but at least when you’re with him, you know you’re having fun and will always escape without a single scratch or bruise.
After all, The Trickster only loves your sweet sounds and sighs, that make for a completely different and out of bounds melody that only he gets to listen to.

i kinda agrer w the anon like ig the older members r fine but if u plan on writing for new jeans rhe maknae is 14/15…
A measured Response
While I think the other anon who send the initially accusation is still the one sending asks to my inbox, I also think that you are another person. I will strengthen and steel-man your concerns/argument, though it will always baffle me that y'all have these ridiculous spelling errors. Seriously, guys, at least try to type coherent messages/a literal paragraph with no mistakes.
(To those of you who do, thank you <3)
For some fucking reason I feel like I have to make this a thing. I should not, really. These accusations are baseless, I'm not the thing he wants to frame me as, so on and so on, but because I think you are genuinely kinda worried what I meant, I'll explain it to you.
(I'm not sorry if I sound condescending or anything, because I am)
It started with this ask, which basically asked me:
"Do you plan on writing NewJeans in the future?"
Now, being human and (probably) understanding English as well as context, this is what I (and probably 99% of other people with the right context) assumed this person meant:
"Do you plan on writing a fic about any of the 18+ NewJeans members in the future?"
bUt tHaT iSnT wHaT tHeY aSkEd!?
You cannot possibly reach that conclusion. Seriously, go look at literally every fic I ever wrote. Age of the idols? Ranging from 30 something down to 18, the absolute hard legal and (I guess) moral minimum, the line I don't cross.
If you go to my page or just open this weird ass tab from Tumblr (fuck Tumblr), you see stuff like "18+ Girl Group fic writer" or "No minors" or (from my Biaslists & Writelist & Requests tab) "Remember that I said most and 18+. This automatically excluded all 18- idols... I won't write those." This is easily understandable, obvious context to the message from above.
Or did you think I would just write about literal new jeans, like an review or something? No, of course not.
Oh, you can also look at my response, like... I specifically mention Hanni and Danielle, two 18+ idols, very popular, probably the two (including I guess Minji) the asker probably meant.
Now the point where I might look like an idiot if I take you seriously:
I responded to the baseless accusation with a GIF of Hanni, the focus on an easily identifiable part (her ass). The response of the accuser (still in my inbox):
"You just admitted you're a pedo"
Wrong and cringe.
Granted, you did not know this message (if you are a different person), yet you still, after seeing the Hanni GIF decided to say this. Either you are fucking stupid or this is maliciously framing me. Pick your poison.
(BTW: You are stupid because Hanni is 18. International age. Whatever the fuck Koreans use/used to use does not count, but she is also "19"/an adult there)
If you now need it black on white (or white on black), here it goes:
I'm not a pedo. I'm even against idols debuting under the age of 18.
(Why did I even bother? I dunno man, now it's out of the system)
With that said, I got some ideas for a Hanni fic (still very basic, but god, she is gorgeous and hot) and for a Danielle fic (funnily, it's not even a smut).
Everyone, have a nice day and some pretty Minji <3

listen in the grand scheme of things i'm glad i let myself get back into minecraft content for this. like i haven't touched a minecraft series since like 2014, on purpose, but i saw clips of qsmp in march 2023 and thought, screw it. maybe it's time. and i don't regret it yknow? i saw multilingual server and thought 'that looks AWESOME' and it certainly didn't disappoint. my only regret is that everything went crazy and people logged off RIGHT when everyone finally started relying on the live translations more, which was something i've been dreaming of for months lmfao. all in all, just happy to be here. this stuff gave me new reasons to use my blog.
hell if this is actually an end or even just a pause maybe i can FINALLY write my FUCKING TIME LOOP FIC JESUS FUCKING I'VE BEEN COOKING THAT STUPID FUCKING THING SINCE LIKE MAY LIKE I WAS ON THE FUCKING FIELD AT MY COLLEGE GRADUATION CEREMONY WAITING TO WALK THE STAGE AND GET MY DIPLOMA AND I WAS WRITING THE FIRST STUPID CHAPTER OF IT LIKE GENUINELY BUT I PUT IT ON HOLD BC THINGS KEPT HAPPENING AND I WAS LIKE I SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE BIG PICTURE SO I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY WITH IT PROPERLY BC THE MOST FUN I HAVE WITH TIME LOOP AUS COMES FROM KNOWING EVERYTHING AND MESSING WITH HOW SIMPLE ACTIONS CAN ALTER THE PROGRESSION OF EVENTS AND CHANGE CHARACTER CHOICES LOGICALLY BC THAT STUFF'S COOL BUT I DIDN'T KNOW LIKE THE MYSTERY OF THE FEDERATION OR WHATEVER AND I WANTED TO SEE WHERE THAT WAS GOING SO I COULD SEE WHETHER I WANTED TO TOSS IT OR ALTER IT OR KEEP IT AND SEE NOW I'LL KNOW YKNOW AND NOW I CAN JUSTIFY SHIT LIKE "OH HEY PURGATORY'S HAPPENING IN JUNE THIS TIME BC I WANT THE BREAKFAST TRIO TO EXIST FASTER AND FUCK YOU" WITHOUT IT FEELING TOO WEIRD AND ALSO STUFF LIKE CODE LORE AND ALL THIS OTHER NONSENSE LIKE DAMN WOULD BE PRETTY COOL I MEAN ONE SINGLE FUCKING INTERACTION BETWEEN SLIME AND MARIANA COULD SEND ME CAREENING DOWN A PATH PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT UNIMAGINABLE I COULD MAKE THIS FIC THAT'S BEEN SIMMERING SINCE LAST MAY A REALITY I COULD DO IT THIS COULD FIX ME. THIS COULD FIX ME
but yeah i'm glad i allowed myself to get invested in this server. i think y'all are cool, and i think the admins did amazing with everything they were given even though they shouldn't have been given it the way they were, and the ccs were cool and i'm glad everything happened yknow. maybe things will keep happening and maybe not but yknow what. i became All Powerful. i started watching as someone who knew english and some french and now i am someone who knows english (100%), slightly more french (like 70%), a workable understanding of spanish (like 40%) and a slightly less workable understanding of portuguese (like 20%) they added german to nerf me specifically. they knew i was getting too powerful. yeah, i spent some time as a kpoppie, i have a tiny miniscule understanding of korean (5%) german i have 0 experience with they added german to nerf me and then this happened to nerf me further. make no mistake they cannot stop me. i will become all powerful.
like cmon. if it ends here it was never all bad. i don't even have to use google translate to understand roier shittalking in the chat. i can just read it. i couldn't do that before :D and i can make my chilean friend keysmash bc she's not used to me knowing any spanish at all
we've grown strong over the year, haven't we? i hope we will continue to, no matter what :D

I remember reading some asks that when you were in Guardians fandom, people were always correcting some stuff too, that they though is wrong or smth. And I feel like especially after so long writing your own universes, those very "smart" anons are really annoying. I just hope that they won't suck any wind from benith your wings and you don't spend much energy on answers to their asks and that you know always know - your writing is your own and we are fucking blessed for reading it <3
Maybe I just have forgotten so that I can mostly remember the good things (haha) but aside from people always having a bone to pick with me calling Pitch's daughter Seraphina, Rise of the Guardians was generally pretty chill!
I think back then there were a lot more 'why are you depicting Bunnymund this way?' or 'Why are you making this choice?' which as open-ended questions I really don't mind answering!! Even when it's obvious that the person who's asking the question doesn't agree with my depiction, then I can explain myself, vs. someone just anonymously coming in to go 'hi you are wrong' when... I'm not O.o
Different fandoms have different feels to them, kind of like visiting different countries! DnD / FR as a fandom seems to have a pocket of vocal people who want to prove they know more than me about DnD / FR to which I'll just say - you all know more than me, you win, here's your trophy, now let me write my fic the way I want thanks and learn how to read tags/author's notes :D That being said, the folks who don't care about that shit and just want to enjoy Astarion being railed / living his best-worst life have been the BEST and I really enjoy how thoughtful they are and how cool their comments are. There's some super engaged folks in this fandom who have really great takes on things, and I enjoy that side of it a lot.
Rise of the Guardians was incredibly creative. Like, to this day, I know one fanartist who went to work at Dreamworks, one who does official art for Hearthstone and works for Blizzard (her dream - and I still have her fanart of Gwyn in my house!), plenty more who went on to become professional artists, comic writers, writers, animators etc. I think the visual art and style of that show attracted so many people who love art, which was fun. We also had antis, but whatever, I feel like every fandom has those if you're active in the fandom.
Stardew Valley is mostly very mild, because it's intermittently very quiet and there's so many different pairings, and I've always written rarepairs. Generally people who enjoy that game are pretty low-key, and they're some of the nicest folks I've met in like anon asks and in comments! Love SDV peeps and it's been a pleasure to come back to the fandom.
Dragon Age: Inquisition was... lol. Lol. Well, look, I made some amazing friends through that fandom who I still know today. It attracted actually a surprising amount of older fandom folks who brought a lot of knowledge about how to write fic, so the fandom is drenched in really good fic, really good art. There was a ton of fucking drama, and some of the most acephobic rhetoric I've ever seen came out of this fandom, including asexual block-lists where people hunted each other down on Tumblr with things like 'have you blocked this person yet they're asexual' in anon. So like... DAI was a RIDE. The people I met in that fandom as friends I'll treasure. The actual fandom itself was a trash-fire depending on where you were. There were definitely a couple of BNFs in this fandom who made it their job to just hate other people, especially if they were ace and liked writing an ace Dorian Pavus. That was the first time I learned that blocking is good for the soul.
The Beast that Chose Its Own Bridle is a tiny fandom made of people who all love Felix and Mildmay very much :D
Detroit Become Human was a weird experience and it felt like a weird fandom. It was I think Korean or Japanese fanart that actually inspired Eversion, since that's where the first reverse!AU fanart (at least that I saw) began. But the comments could be weird, the anons were sometimes weird (not always, but sometimes! Especially in the beginning - and I just think first impressions really count lol), and I remember joining a Connor/Hank Discord where the most active folks were very quick to tell me how I should write my story, which was like - I like that they liked the story, but I've never had people try to show how much they like something by trying to change it into something they like more in quite that way before? I didn't really feel like staying in the fandom, tbh, it's extremely cliquey, especially all the folks that have like 400 names for the different versions of Connor, and it feels like it has a steep learning curve if you want to join the 'club.'
It was also the story where I had to do the most heavy lifting on BDSM education. Like, this fandom felt very BDSM naive *overall* - there's obviously exceptions, but I had to literally change how I was writing the story to explain more things than I normally would have done in a fic like that, because I was just getting so many 'why would Connor want to be humiliated during sex' anons and comments which was like okay, okay, let's actually do some 101 brochure stuff with this (the chapter where Connor calls Luuk and they talk about Connor liking being humiliated was not meant to be a whole chapter dslkfjas).
In fandoms like Thorki I could assume that the majority of readers would sort of get that even if it was a kink they didn't like - it was still just a kink that people can like and/or help others out with explanations. So it's possible D:BH skewed young and/or just not BDSM experienced! Which is fine! It's just I've noticed it here the most of all the fandoms I've been in. There were folks who knew kink really well who didn't need any explanations there at all, because I tend to over-explain a character's reasoning at the best of times, but yeah.
These are all like... deeply personal experiences influenced by the pairings I'm writing and how deeply I'm going into each fandom! I was tag-tracking in RotG / D:BH / DA:I, so I saw a lot more stuff, I think.
There's other fandoms I've been a part of but not really written for much or at all, like Thorki (love it there) and Sebaciel re: Black Butler (love it there too, but we lose a lot of writers because of antis), and also Murderbot (really weirdly cliquey in a 'oh... I see' kind of way, which might explain why a small pocket of people are writing most of the fics - because they're the only ones allowed in their Discord lol). Murderbot fandom is why I didn't end up writing Murderbot fanfiction sdalkfjdsa
Anyway, fandoms are weird, personal spaces that should be heavily curated! But I can't stop anons coming into my inbox with certain 'flavours' of question per fandom unless I turn off anon and honestly where would be the fun of that :D :D :D

Twenty Questions
@angryteapott Thanks for the tag! <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
35!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
748,763
What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly television: kdramas and cdramas, and some English-language shows. The only films I have written for are Decision to Leave and Cyrano de Bergerac.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
All of them are Mr. Queen:
Mrs. Queen - A rushed fix-it that I began one day after the show ended and then published daily for two months straight. It was a super fun writing exercise bc I tried to work in as many reader prompts as possible to salvage all of our broken hearts after the horrid ending. It was also the unfortunate beginning of my haphazard style of posting first chapters with no clue what the rest of the story will be. (100k)
The White Grass- Non-magic AU. I really enjoyed writing this because 1. it's my only properly beta read story and it was sooo fun to go over things with Sarah in advance! and 2. it features a noncon scene that was really divisive and led to a lot of very interesting discussions about power and consent on Twitter. (74k)
The Raw Ingredients - Bong-hwan finally returns to Joseon, but not as a queen, but a chambermaid!! So she has to scheme her way back to Cheoljong with the help of Minister Kim Soyong. I loved writing this, it was pure wish fulfillment and lowkey I think the most hilarious way a season two could have gone (if I may toot my own horn). @lady-guts has made theeee most beautiful fanbinding of it which has made me appreciate it more <33 (41k)
And I, and Silence - Soyong wakes back up alone inside her body with no memory of what has happened and has to fend for herself. I loved writing Kim Byeong-in's pov and also Jo Hwa-jin's pov and also their freaky love story!! (99k)
Whatever Souls Are Made Of - After almost drowning Soyong ends up with the complete memories of her future self (Bong-hwan). So suddenly she is both a Joseon woman and a South Korean man and has to grapple with that. Also there's a sweeping romance crossing time and space. (61k)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to respond to all, because I think those connections is what makes fandom worth engaging in. Currently behind on answering though :(
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a HEA gal, but my Kingdom fic Something Rotten ends with hate sex that isn't maybe only hate but more hate than love. (Also, at least one of the main characters is gonna get eaten by zombies in the future.) I wrote a short My Liberation Notes piece called These Winter Fields where I let Mr. Gu attend Alcoholics Anonymous, but his recovery is left open-ended. Writing it felt very bittersweet to me personally, as someone who has been close to an addict.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of them have tooth-rottingly happy endings! But the ones that felt the most healing to me were my The Hour fic not even the rain because I had been hurting for a decade over its cancellation, and my Beyond Evil fic Splinters where I unfridged Kang Min-jeong and let her live a vibrant poly life without having to die to fuel other people's manpain. Also very much enjoyed saving Comrade Gu in my Crash Landing on You fic Allegretto, not so much for his own sake as for Seo Dan, who deserves to have everything she wants.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not really. Sometimes people have expressed disappointment. I think the most hate I got was a person on Twitter who got really upset that I wrote a ship they didn't like and in a way they didn't like, but I don't think that had very much to do with my actual fic (since they hadn't read it).
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do! Mostly het. I think I have progressed from more tender depictions to, like, trying to hone in on the slightly weird or awkward parts of sex, and also to describe the scene more straightforwardly and let people's imagination do the work for them?
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
A Six Flying Dragons/My Country: The New Age crossover, and a Rookie Historian/Sungkyunkwan Scandal crossover. Neither feels very crazy to me because the universes fit so well (the two former because they feature the same historical people and events, and the two latter because they are both fluffy fusion sageuks with perky heroines).
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes, or at least reposted without credit.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I would love if that happened!!!
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Gotta go with Goo Hae-ryung and Min U-won because they are sooo delightful to write, really grew on me (I didn't ship them immediately), and the fandom are such lovely people!
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I hope I will finish all of them in time.
What are your writing strengths?
Funny dialogue! (At least I think it's funny.) Readers mostly seem to appreciate the heart-wrenching confession oneliners.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Pacing, repetitive descriptions, that classic hyperfocus on the main ship to the detriment of other characters, and action scenes. There's probably many cultural misconceptions as well, especially since I mostly write historical pieces (ranging from the Joseon Dynasty and Tang Dynasty to 1950s Britain). I try to research, but being a foreigner means that there will always be a gap.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Since I'm not a native English speaker, all my dialogue is in another language! In the kdrama fics I sometimes include familial terms, honorifics, and other forms of address in transliterated Korean, because I think that helps remind people reading it of what the sentence "actually" sounds like within the fiction, and also maybe allows them to recall what those particular words sound like when spoken by the actors of show. It gives the appearance that the fic only translates the character's "real," embodied, Korean conversation and keeps the readers immersed. At least that's my intention.
First fandom you wrote for?
On AO3 it was for Supernatural, since 15x20 enraged me enough to finally post something. But I also wrote Buffy and Harry Potter fic on FF.net when I was a kid. Including Snape/reader inserts, which I recently told a friend about and she gave me the most repulsed look I have ever seen :)
Favorite fic you've written?
I don't actually know!! Whatever Souls Are Made Of is probably one of the best pieces I have written, but all of them are dear to me in different ways.
Tagging @drivingsideways and @comfect and @elderflowergin and anyone else who wants to do it!

Hello and a happy El WooWoo to everyone, but more importantly, a happy birthday to Simon Snow!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Thank you @blackberrysummerblog for the tag.
I have a long post, actually. I am surprised myself, and also, it is not about my thesis (🤯) for a change. But anyway, a few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the Glee podcast And That’s What You Really Missed and about how they discuss Asian racism in the show, and how it resonated with me. Good ole @thnxforknowingme reblogged it and it got some traction and I liked reading everyone’s tags. At the end of the post, I mentioned that I started writing a fic/character study to sort of “reclaim” the weird shit that Glee put its Asian characters through. It’s about Mike, Tina, Blaine, Wes and an original character.
Tina and the OC’s story is about being adopted into a white family, Mike’s about moving to America from China as a young child, Blaine’s about being biracial and Wes’s about being the child of immigrants. As my post also said, I haven’t touched that fic since 2018. I did share some snippets of it before, here on my blog. You can find them here and here. But for this post (😉) I am opening this document again to post this:
“You learn to live with it,” Mike always says, “You start to accept casual racism from your friends.” And it’s true, but it still stings every now and then.
Mike and Tina always joke about the ‘Asian’ ‘Other Asian’ thing, but why does Coach Sylvester have to group them together like that?
Why do people always assume Mike and Tina are secretly related? Puck’s jokes about that aren’t funny anymore.
Mike knows Tina doesn’t like it when people say that they’re both Chinese.
Tina isn’t a ‘Geisha’, and people aren’t even willing to listen to her when she tries to explain that she’s Korean, not Japanese- and yes, Geishas are Japanese.
Mike and Tina are pretty sure they can eat with a knife and fork and Rachel can stop putting chopsticks in her hair.
Not gonna lie, this is good. I don’t wanna come off as conceited, but I had a rough time picking out a snippet. There are so many moments in this document (promptly called “Tina”) that are still so relatable. Also, I gave Wes the username GavelMan92. I don’t know if I will ever finish it. I can see from the document that I am writing this as a couple of standalone chapters, not one big fic, so maybe I can post some finished parts, although there is still a chronological order somewhere.
What do you guys think? Even if you aren’t a Gleek (hewwo Snowbazzians!), would you read an uncompleted fic that consists of vignettes? Or would it be better to publish all chapters separately and then add them to one series in AO3? I have written a bullet point fic for my SJAEU with this idea in mind: so that I can add later chapters out of order in a series. Even though I haven’t added anything to the SJAEU series yet (oop), it is an easy possibility and I have also been thinking about posting my Sense8/Glee AU in this way.

20 Qs for fic writers
Tagged by @monstersinthecosmos , thank you!!!
1. How many works do you have on A03? 31 (and a few anon, i think 2 or 3. idk, when i post a fic on anon i forget about it forever)
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 446,135
3. What fandoms do you write for? currently/primarily vc, iwtv (amc), star wars, and merlin (bbc)!
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? A Lovely Little Normal Life (which, honestly, kind of annoys me lol. i know it's just bc it's a huge fandom, but really? the stupid little 12k harry potter fic i wrote in two days is my most kudos? please...); Arthur Pendragon, Long May She Reign (forever pushing my lesbian genderswap agenda); The Face of God (les mis slightly canon divergent javert character study); The Odyssey of Recollection (amc iwtv s1 pov armand); Away From Stranger Tides (potc philip/syrena fic i started ages ago and never finished, lol)
5. Do you respond to comments? yes i love talking to people in comments!!!! i've made a lot of friends through comments!!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? omg. umm. merthur fans don't know this yet bc i havent finished posting but it's arthur pendragon long may she reign (BUT it's part of a series, so it's literally fine). idk, i dont tend to write long fics that end angsty. but my angstiest fic in general is probably Hollow-Boned Boy (armand contemplating his human life in the early CoD era) or Vision of the Damned (daniel's turning from armand's pov)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? i love a happy ending!! my series Odysseus in White Silk is probably the happiest ending, and in such an undeserved way hahaha it's so very AU because i was sad after s1 of the show and just wanted them all (and armandaniel) to live happily ever after
8. Do you get hate on fics? i dont think i ever have, but i tend to read comments in good faith too, so maybe someone out there is annoyed that i interpreted their vague dislike comment as a genuine comment or something, idk. in general though, i'll say no
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes but i dont post that often, idk if there's a particular kind, but generally it tends to be a little rougher than is probably appropriate without discussion in real-life situations, but also very...idk my friend described it as very tender, like theyre very clearly in love. which is so funny considering that that kind of tenderness irl gives me fucking hives lmfao
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? oh wow, not in a long time. i do have a wip sitting around rn that's a crossover between london spy and cloud atlas, which is really crazy until you remember that ben whishaw is in both london spy and the cloud atlas movie lol. and cloud atlas is already about weird reincarnations and parallel worlds and stuff, so it isnt too out-there.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? i dont think so!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? yes!! The Face of God was translated into Korean by ao3 user Crescent919 !! i've had a few comments on other fics asking to translate for personal use (always yes, of course), but no one else has asked to share a translation publicly
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? no!! i've been thinking about it lately though
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? all-time? probably merlin/arthur from merlin (bbc). it's the whole fate-destiny-choice thing, it just compels me like nothing else
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? hmmm, i would like to finish Roswell -- well, kinda (agent carter farm girl / alien crash landing au) because i still have all the original notes and outlines and stuff. i also made a shitty conlang when i was first writing it, which is crazy lol. but it would need some pretty serious revisions, and i would definitely rewrite the first few chapters that i posted years ago. i just kind of lost the agent carter bug, but i might return to that fic if i ever get in the mood for it again.
16. What are your writing strengths? ooh, i'm not really sure! i get a lot of comments mentioning characters' voices and/or personalities, so i would say maybe that!!! i also feel that i'm fairly good at mimicking an author's writing style when i want to (notably, i do not mimic anne rice when writing vc fic, lol)
17. What are your writing weaknesses? editing for sure. i have at least a hundred fics sitting on my hard drive fully or almost-fully written that i just need to edit. but i would simply rather die than do all of that. it's also why my whole merlin fic got put on pause while i went down the vc rabbithole, because i just can't bring myself to go edit the next chapters lol
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? hmm, i think it's usually unnecessary and comes off as a bit silly. that said, i did do it once (maybe excessively) in Daniel Molloy, Time Bandit (1984 daniel ends up in 1794 theatre des vampires, it's more of a character study than a time travel fic) BUT, let me defend myself -- i did it because daniel doesnt understand french, it's his pov, and he's incredibly confused and distraught for most of the fic. i felt like the dialogue being in french conveyed this sort of "daniel does not belong in this time/place" vibes. but, also, my french is...a little rough. so i'm sure it's an annoying fic for french readers lmao
19. First fandom you wrote for? warriors cats, a million years ago hahahah
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? ok, i have three different answers for this. the fic i think is the best, objectively, in terms of writing and content: The Story of Dani [...] (r63 devil's minion from armand's pov, starting with lestat's house). the fic i am the proudest of, mostly because it was my first "big" fic (it's funny now, bc it's only 41k) and i feel like i grew a lot as a writer while working on it, and i'm still happy with it: The Face of God (les mis pov javert, character study from childhood). the fic i have the most fun with and think about almost 24/7: Arthur Pendragon, Long May She Reign (r63 merthur, canon divergence, this is like a 4-part series that's currently over 300k lmao)
no-pressure tagging: @aunteat @leslutdepointedulac @butchybats @graygiantess and anyone else who wants to!!

Thanks for your translation and the footnotes explaining things. Those were a godsend!
If I may ask, you said you had been on the Chinese (and Vietnamese?) side of the fandom up until now, that you've been in MDZS fandom for a few years. I see that you have some MDZS English fics up recently. I love them too! The ideas are so new and fun! Do you have any favorites English fics? Why aren't you on the international side until now? You learned Mandarin just to read MDZS? That's amazing. Is it very hard? How did you do it? What gave you the idea of writing the footnotes? Are there any Chinese MDZS fics that you really like?
Thank you. I'm glad the notes were helpful to you.
Ehh... it's a lot of questions, huh.
1/ I don't have any true favorites on the international side. It's a matter of cultural differences, not the quality of the stories. MDZS... was not written with an international audience in mind. So there are a lot of tiny but deeply impactful details that just... fly over a lot of the international reader base's head. It doesn't help that Chinese is a high-context culture, the polar opposite of most Western cultures (low-context culture). So a tiny detail that doesn't mean anything to English speaking audience can be a really big deal for the Sinosphere audience.
So the English fics are written based on this foundation of cultural value mismatch and thousands of little things that don't quite line up. The result is... really weird and really jarring. So for me, I have tried reading English fics before. But usually, what happened is that I would get distracted by this thing or that thing in the story that didn't fit with the cultural setting, and I would not be able to enjoy the story at all. I'm not quite sure how else to explain this. It's like... if someone in the Sinosphere who only has a very vague understanding of say... modern American culture takes a glance at American media and equates popularity with actual governmental authority (which kinda is true in a way but not all the way) and they write a story with the premise of.. say... a young American with big dreams of becoming the president so this person starts out their career by writing long, thousand-word essays and post them on twitter to gain credibility and followers so they can then stage a coup like Jan 6th and become president, and then they use their position as president to order Amazon be the new headquarter of government and all of this is written super seriously and realistically... Like that, probably...
2/ Why aren't I on the international side of the fandom until now? Well, the reason above plus my work is hectic. I'm perpetually buried in works, scripts, drafts for books, magazine publication schedules, game publication schedules, media projects, client interviews, chasing down clients, etc... that's on top of family and my not-so-great health. This year though, I have made it my resolution to write more stuff for myself (and not paid by someone else). So that's why I'm here now.
3/ Yes, I did start to seriously learn Mandarin to read MDZS in its native language. I can't say it's easy. It's not an easy language by any stretch of the word. But it's probably fair to say it's significantly easier for me to learn it compared to a lot of other people. I'm Vietnamese. Vietnamese is a derivative of traditional Mandarin, even though our modern language is now written in the Latin alphabet. We also have a bridge language between Hanyu (Mandarin) and Vietnamese called Han Viet. This makes it much easier for a Vietnamese to learn Mandarin than most other nationalities (with the exception of Japanese and Korean, probably). Before I even learned Mandarin, with the right tool, I could already understand about 50-60 percent of Mandarin writings, provided it's not ancient writing (which goes by different rules). It also helps that modern Vietnam has really good access to Chinese media, both modern and old.
I practice by translating Chinese MDZS fics into Vietnamese. I translated 10 series in total last year, with each series averaging around 50-80k words. I recently dabbled in translating Chinese poems into English (There's no use translating Chinese poems into Vietnamese. Han Viet is built for that express purpose already.)
4/ There are a ton of Chinese fics that are really good. I can't even begin to list them. I have seen some of the first-generation MDZS fics that were so good they ended up influencing MXTX herself, ending with her accepting the details posited in those stories as part of MDZS canon. They are all on the Chinese side of the internet though, mostly on lofter and weibo.
5/ The idea of the footnotes came from a friend, really. I sometimes spontaneously rant at @erimies about MDZS. Haha, I should thank her for being so patient. Back then, she wasn't even in MDZS. Well, even now, she's only started to read a little. But basically, during my fairly one-sided ranting (or gushing), we would stumble into cultural concepts that she didn't understand and had no basis for. So I would explain these things to her, which sometimes would become entire essays in our chat box. So when I translated, I remembered this point, that international fans probably miss a lot of cultural concepts and references, so I made sure to add in explanations.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 44, but some are collabs
2. What's your total A03 words count? 403,445
3. What fandoms do you write for? Harry Potter
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Future Without a Face (114k, complete)
What Happens in Vegas (14k, complete)
Pancakes (5k, complete)
I Could Send You to Hell, I Know You (6k, complete)
Oversight (21k, wip)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I used to, but I'm not really active anymore, and my inbox got too big, so I gave up. I do read and appreciate every single comment I get, though!
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? How am I supposed to pick? Judging by the comments some have found the ending of Let Me in the Walls I Have Built Around You rather devastating. Or maybe To the Moon. I'm not a fan of boring marriage-kids-growing-old-together -endings so some people find everything I write sad and horrible. I write mainly Tom fics, and in most of them happy endings simply aren't achievable for him without ruining his character
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uhhh.... depends what counts as happy? I guess all of my collabs are relatively happy. And What Happens in Vegas is probably one of my most popular fics because it's very light
8. Do you get hate on fics? Of course I do. But who cares
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? What else is there?
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? To write a crossover I'd have to find another fandom I like
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't know, I don't keep track of them
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes. I'm very flattered when someone wants to spend time and effort to translate my works, so thank you for these:
A Future Without a Face [Chinese translation by Aureus_1859]
A Future Without a Face [Korean translation by bear0730]
To the Moon [Korean translation by bear0730]
Let Me in the Walls I Have Built Around You [Spanish translation by Mixsys]
Let Me in the Walls I Have Built Around You [Chinese translation by Rowo]
In Just a Moment, You'll Be Mine [Chinese translation by Ocrane]
Generational [Chinese translation by AvinlIfol]
Till Death Do Us Part [Russian translation by io_mann]
Until Midnight Comes [Chinese translation by tyughb]
What Happens in Vegas [Chinese translation by withoutqueen]
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Multiple. Mostly with @duplicitywrites, and especially if co-writing means me writing some random shit and then throwing it to her, so she can make an actual fic out of it. She's a miracle worker, really
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Tomarrymort
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? All the wips I currently have
16. What are your writing strengths? Funny porn I guess. Weird crack. I don't know. My Tom characteristics have been praised a few times because I don't pull punches. I enjoy writing flaws, and I'm not scared of making the main characters ruthless and possibly even unlikeable
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Writing
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I wouldn't add lines in my native language, and even less in a language that I don't speak well. In my opinion, lines that most readers don't understand do not add any value.
And I have to add that I have seen some words in my [small and therefore exotic] native language randomly dropped into a fic, and it makes the whole thing absolutely unreadable. Sorry, but it's too unexpected and just—well—awful.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter is the only fandom I have ever written. Or even read tbh
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? I don't have a favourite. But I think Cloudy is my most underrated fic, along with A Mother's Love (but that's bella/delphi rarepair so I didn't expect it to get even this much attention)

Related to the difference in numbers between m/m and f/f. Recently I compared some kpop fandoms to others and found out there's a really big gap in bg and gg even though in non transformative spaces some of the gg are more popular than the bg.
I'm not trying to make any judgments but I'm interested in what makes bg fans more likely to write fic considering that female idols also have fun personalities and dynamics with other members that are shippable.
I don't really think it's related to fan's sexuality because a lot of bg fans (like me) identify as lesbian and there are also straight women in gg fandom.
--
Interesting question. I wonder how it varies by platform and space.
Wattpad has a metric fuckton of female self/Jungkook male idol. Boy groups are going to be more popular for that because self inserty het is more popular on Wattpad than self inserty f/f. The amount of fic that's idol/idol (or gen about idols interacting) seems a lot smaller. I do see some BTS/Blackpink ships along with the m/m for boy groups.
AO3 is slash central and was before kpop RPF got big there. I checked out BTS because there was a lot of m/m fic and then ended up liking their music. My second most listened to group is probably KARD, and I know next to nothing about them as people. I wouldn't say I have a particularly informed or broad knowledge of idol groups, which affects what fic I'll be into even if I like a lot of random songs I've run across on youtube. I think fic popularity can be self-feeding: people check out fictional canons because they have active fic fandoms too.
Last time I looked at AsianFanfics, I think I remember seeing male idol/OFC and male idol/female idol but not so much male idol/male idol. I've never been a regular there though.
The fact that it isn't about sexuality for everyone doesn't mean that sexuality doesn't have an influence on the big picture. I suspect the twin forces of more fic writers being attracted to men and more fic writers finding female bodies more contested are in play.
In my case, for me to care about shippy fanfic, I need to be attracted to the characters/celebrities. There's a massive disparity there for me.
Male idols are too scrawny for me to want to fuck in a lot of cases and have boring plastic surgery sameface, but some of them are pretty muscular, their clothing often covers up the full extent of their skinniness, and at least a few of them look different from each other. Their dances are also hot. Female idols go even more overboard on the plastic surgery sameface, are pre-selected to look even more similar, and have legs like twigs combined with tiny hotpants that show these off. Their dances just irritate me. It's what the industry forces on them, but it's a massive turn-off. KARD at least has kind of weird intermediate dances.
Yoon Mi-rae is smokin' hot. I like Hwasa. But a lot of women in SK entertainment are a hard no for me. I love Blackpink's music, but I'd never be attracted to them. Well... maybe when they're 50.
I have no idea what fic-writing Korean fans think, but for me as a Westerner, male idols are a pleasant change from male celebrities in the US. They're expected to dress up, look pretty, and wear makeup. They're normative in their own context but read differently for me, inaccurate as that is. Female idols are the same old ultra-femme looks on steroids. I certainly don't need more of that in my life.
Maybe if I gave a shit about Fanxy Red's music, I'd be in that fandom. They're the gg that presents like a bg. They're originally from China but relocated.
youtube
Hmm... Yeah, I could be into that.

God ur so self righteous it hurts 😭 all u ever do is sit here and throw around ur hot takes and opinions and then expect ur little gremlins to agree with you, but as soon as its another person who has a hot take or an opinion that opposes you, and a few people defend them whether it be a friend or an anon, they are evil, and this is just fatphobia aside like this is EVERY "moral" take you have its just all hot garbage and you being a hypocrit 💀 half the time its stuff that you have literally no say on anyway.
Are you a vampire? Have you always been afraid of mirrors?
"Moral backbone" my ass you just say whatever you will think would appeal to various minorities so you can look like the good guy who happens to be blunt. Its not even being blunt you arent cool for being a cunt towards everyone and it will never be cool. Stick to talking about shit that relates to you and maybe, just maybe, people wouldn't hate on you so much. It's no wonder half of caratblr can't stand ur ass
I dont think this take is as bad as that one time, or well multiple times you have shat on peoples writing styles or the content they write about just because it doesnt fit your vanilla cis straight woman narrative, now thats awful
Or maybe the times you've vagueposted about some of your closest moots just for them to still be here, defending your ass when all you do is talk shit about them constantly
you think i’m just saying what i think will appeal to various minorities. it’s really telling that you think people have the political beliefs they do just to look good. like do you really believe people have the beliefs they do performatively? do you find it hard to believe that people hold beliefs not out of a desire to look good, but because that’s what they believe???
also because this is weird: since when have i vagueposted about mutuals. when have mutuals defended me???? like what are you actually talking about … i don’t care if half of caratblr can’t stand my ass, if they’re that willing to support anything just because a fic writer did it, i don’t really care what they think. like i say it here all the time, i don’t care what y’all think of me. just unfollow me if you don’t want me on your dash.
the main thing i have to say here though. “half of the time it’s shit you have no say in anyway” like i don’t have to be black to think that anti-blackness is bad. this goes beyond whatever this anon is talking about — the problem with “listen to x voices” is that, while it’s important to put oppressed viewpoints in the forefront of discussions, it’s not a free pass out of critical thought. ppl forget “listen to x voices” started out in academic study. it wasn’t about the ppl you choose to defend or the viewpoints you hold publicly. and it’s not about minority voices saying “x isn’t harmful” taking precedence over established theory to the contrary. i think this is something ANY poc understands acutely and painfully because it’s always the conservative and white supremacist sellouts that get put to the forefront. (this includes diasporic poc more so than non-minority people native to their nation. like how irritating that bts has a voice on violence against asian americans when their experience as native koreans has NOTHING to do with the diasporic asian experience!?)
it also gives people an out. if you believe that only x people should talk or care about x issues, then that lets you just sit back and say “well, i’m not x so i’m not involved”… and more irritatingly, it gives you the perceived right to say “well I’M a minority so my opinion is right !!!!”. being a person of color doesn’t make me an expert on racism and i don’t pretend to be an expert. there are white anti-imperialist scholars who have a better understanding of racist power structures than i do and i’m not arrogant enough to just write that off because they’re white.

For the writer Ask thing, well I kinda want to Ask everything but it may be pretty invasive and time consuming so what about anything between 2, 4, 7, 18 and 23 ?
Thanks you !
(from the asks here!)
I am a classic writer that cannot shut up ever about writing (to the detriment of my friends and family) and I'm pretty free because of the holidays atm, so feel free to ask more if you have burning questions still!
2. how do you come up with plot ideas?
It depends! A lot of times I start with a setting or a vibe first, stick some characters in, have them do weird things, and voila! Plot. I probably sound like Hinata in Haikyuu talking about volleyball with his goofy sound effects, but plotting is not something I'm naturally good at as a writer IMO. I tend to prefer writing heavily character-driven stuff that relies on small changes in character dynamics scene to scene, so I start off with a relationship (whether that's romantic, platonic, familial, etc.) with natural friction and let it move.
As for story concepts (like where my weird AUs come from), I get inspired from stuff I see IRL. For example, my mixed feelings about rainbow capitalism during Pride Month a couple years ago inspired a satosugu lawyer fake dating fic. A jazz bar I visited on a work trip helped inspire there and back again. Stuff like that.
4. how do you channel characters' voices and personalities?
Hmm this is a really good question! from my personal experience, creative writing tends to stem from the subconscious, especially with first drafts. It's a bit of a non-answer, but character voice and personality mostly comes from the subconscious for me. Then I go back and edit it for consistency. I was definitely trying to channel a bit of Jane Austen into there and back again, though.
I do think about how a character would react if I ran into them at a coffee shop, or if I happened to overhear their convo on the train, what would they be talking about?
7. handling writers' block/creative stagnation
If I get writers' block on something, it usually means I fucked up somewhere. (I talk a little more about an example of a serious block that led me to stop working on a fic I put a lot of time into here). I usually just stop and work on something else.
With creative stagnation, it probably means I need to go off to do something else in real life that isn't writing for a bit. There are times that seem to happen once every couple years where it feels like everything I write is kind of same-y and uninteresting, and that usually means I'm due for a significant level-up soon. When this happens I'll go off and change things up by writing a different medium (like poetry, nonfiction, etc.) and then come back after a break.
18. have there been any fics or authors that have been influential or inspiring to you?
So many! I consider myself a reader first before a writer. A few fic writers whose work never gets old:
kittebasu (Daiya no Ace, Case Closed/Detective Conan, Haikyuu): all hits no misses here. I blame kittebasu for my love of celebrity AUs hahaha.
mediest (Fire Emblem: 3 Houses): far from born again has to be one of my all-time fave fics, and I think it can be read without any knowledge of canon. Simply gorgeous, ripped my heart out.
ronsenburg (Ace Attorney): youngblood, a study of a doomed, super toxic, on-again, off-again relationship, is my favorite, but again, all hits no misses.
Some authors whose work I love:
Kazuo Ishiguro: I've read all his novels except The Unconsoled, which I guess makes me a megafan. His best IMO are Never Let Me Go (sci-fi dystopia), The Buried Giant (Arthurian fantasy), and The Remains of the Day (very quiet novel about 20th century British butler deep in denial)—he's got something for everyone.
Karen Russell: Orange World is my favorite of her short story collections, but they're all very fun and very weird.
Nghi Vo's Singing Hills novellas
Anything translated from Korean to English by Anton Hur.
I have lots more recs but I've already taken up too much wordcount here haha, so onto the next one!
23. how do you write endings for your fics? open-ended or conclusive conclusions?
Depends! I don't outline, so I go with whatever is most natural when I get to the ending.

hello stranger!! for the ask game: 15, 19, 27 and 29?!?!?!? the people must know!!!
15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
Excluding things I owe for exchanges/zines and things partially posted on AO3... I suppose I am pretty hyped about this thing where I gave Tweek a bunch of my actual illnesses and Craig is his home nurse and there is yearning and lack of fulfillment and needles in necks!
19. Answered here but in short, Twenny and also everything
27. What do you listen to while writing?
Umm mostly instrumentals by artists like Nujabes and SOPHIE who are not very similar but well. I also like Korean R&B for being mellow since I get headaches a lot. Not understanding the words keeps them from distracting me. Most of my listening and "writing" happens while I'm walking around or at the gym though, thinking of my little scenarios because every song is about the blorbos. Or else!!!
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I'm limited by the lewdness of my content, so I will go with this Kyle line from other people, my weird creekyle threesome fic: "You're never going into space, Craig, you fucking asshole!"
Idk it just makes me giggle! It's true; he's never going into space 😔

i seriously cant get enough of your writing. every update is like a gift from the gods. part of me wants to wait until underline the black is finished so i can binge read it and not go out of my mind waiting for each chapter. but i have a weak will and cant ever resist when it comes to your stories xD
are there any writers you feel that way about? or simply love their work so much you cant get enough? either on ao3 or not
Hi anon!
Over the years there have been writers I feel that way about! Though it's muted over time (often because most of my favourite AO3 writers / non AO3 writers I've ever had has stopped writing over time). The latest author I've really loved over the past few years on AO3 is dgalerab, but he stopped writing the way he used to a while back, and now I just you know, wait and hope and we'll see what happens (though a new fic did go up recently!). So right now I have no authors I'm really like...intense about, because...authors sometimes just stop writing for years, or they can drastically change the way they write due to just time and interest and so on.
So I would say right now there's no authors I really feel the way about. There's a lot of authors I love and support, who I have subscribed to on AO3, or who I look for new updates from on social media, but even some of my favourite m/m authors stopped writing m/m and started writing m/f instead (which I can't read), so...yeah I'm sort of in flux on that right now. Which is a shame, because it's a really nice feeling to sort of drop everything for an author, and immediately read what they've put out!
I know I'll find more authors like this, and then probably years later, something will change. Most authors do eventually stop writing, or change their work so much that like, it's always a fleeting feeling. There have been years where I've felt like that for 20 authors at the same time and it's been awesome, and then like this year where I don't really have it at all, and have watched a whole bunch of my favourite published authors (particularly in m/m) depart and go on to do other things due to the lack of success they found in m/m.
I've been reading a lot of manwha lately (South Korean long-form webcomics) and there's a few that I do drop everything for when a new chapter/episode comes out, like Dangerous Convenience Store, B-Class Guide, Love So Pure, XXX Buddy, Semantic Error (the manwha, not the novel/s), Mr 100% Perfect, Define the Relationship, Full Volume, and Love for Sale. But I'm not specifically following the authors, and in some cases, these are the first works by these authors so I don't know what they might do next etc. But yeah, I check daily for new chapters, and I usually immediately read them when they come out. It's different to what you asked being more story-focused than writer-focused, but it's still a really awesome feeling, and I reread these stories all the time up until what's out in English. :D
So I suppose I do have a similar feeling to how I used to, just...kinda different to being hooked on specific authors? It could always change though! The fact is I'm subscribed to like 300 authors on AO3 (where I'd read almost anything they write) and only about 3-4 of those authors update stories nowadays, to give you an idea of how many authors do just stop writing. All your faves will almost always eventually just...stop. (I would like to say I won't be like that, but I'm also a weird exception where I'm doing original writing on AO3 as a job, and most authors on AO3 aren't doing this). And when that happens 280~ times (I'm sure there's another 20~ authors that will update in a few months or a year), you just kind of have to wait until another one pops up klsdajfas
