ok so I have a knack for remembering many of my dreams. most are mundane and not worth recalling as is usual.

even rarer are fandom dreams.

now that I'm down the BBC Merlin rabbit hole, I was still surprised to get a Merlin dream. my dreams are usually 1st person POV, but I'll write it as if 3rd person - specifically Merlin's POV.

setting is a huge labyrinthine library, dark and eerie with both torchlight and purple-green lights. there's an ongoing battle between humans (knights?) and monsters of all types. the library remains intact for the most part.

Merlin is running through the library, watching these fights but unable to cast. there's a skip to Merlin sitting in an alcove with some others. this is when he regains awareness (I tend to become aware halfway into a dream) and asks Lancelot (?) where Arthur is. Lance doesn't know, so Merlin takes off running back into the library.

most of the library is dark now, save for the dim glow of the purple-green light. then there's a larger opening with a large war table and lit with torchlight, knights standing around it alive and well. Merlin sees Arthur and calls for him - they embrace as Merlin's legs give out. Arthur holds him as Merlin sobs and whispers "I'm sorry, you're okay", clutching to Arthur for dear life.

Arthur's voice is soft, private as he comforts Merlin. "I'm here, it's okay, we're safe."

and then I woke, feeling a fraction of the yearning Merlin felt.
