You know Henriette is lowkey kind of anime (like the SuMo anime) Lusamine-core. To me
#a lot of people were frustrated obvs w the changes made to lusamine after og sumo and i def see it#and i DEF agree w it regarding ultra sumo. but i actually do kind of like the direction they took#w anime lusamine. like yeah it was a huge departure from the games. but given the context/genre of the anime#it didn't feel like a retcon? it felt more like they had to make adjustments to her to fit the very#slice of life comedy direction the sumo anime took. and there were still intense and emotional#story beats/arcs for the aether family too.#and i think the changes to lusamine actually complimented the changes to lillie#who's main conflict/struggle is her intense fear of touching pokemon due to trauma#so like! lillie is still traumatized! and for a slice of life comedy one big struggle is enough.#she didn't need an abusive controlling parent on top of that LMFAOOO (save that conflict for game lillie#esp cause in game her whole arc centers around that)#man i actually don't remember why gladion was a runaway in the anime though now that i think about it.#but like for the entire maybe one person who follows me and has the pokemon sumo/feh overlap interest#does this make sense????????? i feel like it does#i actually don't know if i have any followers who have that overlap. i feel like you're either here for feh/askr sibs specifically#or you had the misfortune of finding me in a brief bout of pokemon fixation and have discovered. oh#oh you BARELY post pokemon actually LMFAOOO you're just insane over some blue hair and pronouns bitch#and sharena 馃槆馃挅#fe henriette

Tlh feels so disconnected from the other series. It ignores so many things established already, it's like it's in its own universe. For example:
- We know Cecily's father was an alcoholic and yet none of the adults noticed Matthew's problem.
- Cecily is very active and a fighter but in tlh she's like a stay at home mom and just takes care of Alexander.
- How is it that everyone is so accepting of all the lgbt characters. Like I know shadowhunters don't follow the same social rules as mundanes do but at this point in history being gay is illegal. LIKE YOU COULD GO TO JAIL. And you're telling nobody had a problem. I feel it really undermines Alec's story. He being the first gay consul is a big deal, his fight for himself and his identity is huge and here it's like it's not even a problem for someone being gay. I know history not always improves, so you could say that people got more homophobic with time, but how. How did we go from this generation to the Circle. Like let's pretend Alexander is the Lightwood ancestor, it means Robert is his grandkid, and we know Robert's father was awful. Are you telling me Alexander, Cecily and Gabriel's child, raised a person so badly? Like how? There's no connection.
- Also, how is it so easy for Anna and Ari, and possibly Thomas and Alastair, to adopt a child. Again, it was a huge deal for Alec and Magnus to adopt Max and Rafael, but for the tlh people is this easy?
- Also, we know Alex is the first gay openly gay consul, so should we assume Charles didn't get to be consul? Or he did get to be consul and the historians erased his sexuality?
SECOND TO LAST BULLET IS A MODERATE SPOILER TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT FINISHED CHAIN OF THORNS BUT IT DIDNT MAKE SENSE TO ME TO COPY THIS ALL OVER WHEN IT'S AT THE BOTTOM SO I HOPE YOU SEE THIS WARNING OKAY SORRY
I have seen this sentiment a lot and I do agree with it. Alone (entirely detached from the rest of TSC and ignoring the fact that these characters are the children of my beloved TID characters), it's an all right series. But knowing that it is a TSC book, you're right. Ignores so many established things.
I just try to think of some of the more historically-inaccurate items as intentionally inaccurate so that TLH feels more welcoming and a better version of history than we know truly happened. However, that disconnects from TMI, as we know, because of how much prejudice Alec faced being gay. If TLH truly connected to all established events, I don't think Alec would have been so scared and felt so threatened.
(And, no, I don't think Charles ever became Consul but that's another story entirely).
Given that we know TLH familes are the ancestors of the TMI families (or most of them, at least), it just doesn't connect well. Obviously, big things could have happened between TLH and TMI that made the Lightwoods go back to being assholes for a generation (don't get me started on that either because Gideon and Gabriel would be so disappointed in them).
I get not wanting to feel tied to the family tree to create the TLH story, but CC should have stuck to what she had already established in a main series. Side books I think have more leeway of being retconned or adjusted, but not a main series, especially not the one that started it all.
So yeah, I can overlook historical inaccuracy to a pretty far extent, but stay consistent in your storytelling among the 4/5 published main series, at least. You wrote yourself into that corner; figure it out. Sigh.
TLH would have made a better series if it had been written as an NA series rather than YA and wasn't confined to a trilogy.
Cecily being reduced to a housewife angers me too much to even address it in this already long post but suffice it to say that I ignore that part of canon because Cecily Herondale-Lightwood is not a fucking housewife ksjflkjs

hellooo! i admire your writing so much and would love to hear more about your ~process~. how much do you plan, what do you like to know before diving in, that kinda thing <3
Oh I love talking about myself you really shouldn't have opened up the floodgates
(but since you did...)
I don't really have a process I follow. Even if I do plan things out, I can't ever stick to it so mostly it's not worth the effort. For the most part, everything begins by taking story concept and character and writing down little scene snippets in an empty doc, or on my phone. Usually this is dialogue or sensory stuff, and a lot of times it doesn't make it into the final draft because my obsession with keeping to what I feel is more character accurate. The point is to set the tone, I guess.
Not that its relevant, but some of my favorites of these starting snippets that were in the final product is Junpei showing reader her own funeral and Emet-Selch dunking on reader's hopes and dreams at the end of Devil's Bouquet.
Anyway, from there, I flesh out that starting line, add more little snippets or even ideas for other scenes, and almost always write the ending, or at least write out the portion of the ending that I see as "the point" of the fic. This can be a segment of dialogue, a paragraph of emotional language, or even just a sentence to remind myself of the moment that every word I write is building up to support. That's the break of tension between the characters which, in my case, is usually the part right before or around the smut (but usually not the smut itself, as I see that as the tension builder or tension release rather than the "climax" ((haha)) itself). I didn't used to do it this way, but it's so much easier to write when you have a working knowledge of the core of your story.
You know, like your basic moral lessons: Make sure your mother doesn't marry into a family with a stepbrother who is a bully and pervert. Don't engage in a power struggle with Claude. Think twice before being too friendly with old British men.
Obviously this is a joke but yeah, I definitely could come up with single sentence explanations for any of my fics. No matter how far along in a story I am, before I decide on "the point", it's kinda a mess. Often times when I am cutting scenes, it's because it doesn't fit this specific vision. In cry foul, Sylvain and reader originally met at the wedding and he was a lot more honest about his intentions throughout, but rewatching scenes with him made me realize that my starting premise was flawed and so it all got cut and my focus shifted more onto the games he was playing with her. In Asteria, I have the scheme between Yuri and Aelfric set, but reader was going to be more of a sleuth about it (the original plot of this fic was unhinged ngl) but then I changed to make her a lot more of a charming country bumpkin sort of character so it could be smaller scale and more self contained, more focused on how reader feels about Yuri. I want to account for as much of the world and setup as I possibly can to make the payoff more satisfying. Somnambulant exists as it does because I kept adding little notes for scenes I thought were necessary which then saw a lot of elaboration to justify itself. Also characters have a tendency to run away from me. I'll add scenes or segments simply because the characters demand it. Sylvain wasn't supposed to take reader's panties but then it happened and I had to deal with it. There are a lot of small things too. In heavensent, I added in that she was sitting in a chair last minute because I felt like it smoothed out their movements and the DP thing just happened because I thought it was... Not funny, but contextually... Yeah. Forever ago when I wrote Welcome to Dead House, I straight up retconned reader's personality entirely because she was too well adjusted, so I added the therapy scene and mental breakdown.
Um. Yeah. I think the point of me saying all of this was just to say that I don't really go in with much of a plan or anything as I maybe should, I just live my bliss and see what happens. The stuff that I love the most in anything I post is usually the unintended things that spring up when I'm "in the zone" because that's when I feel like I get the best banter/dialogue and most intense scenes.
Anyway thank you for coming to my TED talk

Saw the ep.
I guess I can kinda see how sword-girl from the first season looks like Elena if you adjust her hair a little and ignore the color. Kinda feels like an attempt to retcon one of the extras from season 1, but whatever. I'm kinda miffed that they kept the part where she admits that she was totally just using Motoyasu for his money and access but cut the part where she tells him that he's hard to put up with 'cause he's such a fucking cad. That was a really satisfying call-out.
In general, everything just felt slightly sped up. No major plot beats skipped, but all sorts of various details omitted that help clarify things. They imply Motoyasu had it rough, but they cut Ren and Motoyasu both talking about how specifically they've been treated. Although they did also make it sound like Myne has been working on Ren for a while, rather than managing to sway him in one convo like in the books. It makes Ren sound less stupid, but it's gonna make what comes next less funny.
And they didn't include the gununu face :(
I wish they'd showed Motoyasu being depressed for a little longer. Or, like, taken the time to explain that they dragged him to a tavern rather than home because they thought him seeing Naofumi doing well would depress him more. If for no other reason than to explain how we went from a ruined tavern to Filo singing and dancing.
And! And also! They have fricken rucolu fruit just lying in front of him while he's sulking at the second tavern? I know the anime turned that whole scene from Cal Mira into a quick montage but those things are supposed to be instant fatal alcohol poisoning for anyone who isn't Naofumi. Motoyasu is the exact specific person who nearly dies trying to eat one and he's just... implied to be chowing on them now?

Which is sadly why I think I failed to have a great time. The only Sam Raimi movie I know to my knowledge were his Spider Man movies. Like...I knew of the Evil Dead Series, and though I enjoy the paranormal, horror isn't exactly my fave genre. Because of this, to me the final end credit didn't have the same effect as Deadpool's fourth wall breaking 'go home already' thing, and felt like they were calling me a loser nerd with strong 90's/early 00 when it was a more serious insult for waiting for the second credit seen that has now been established as a Marvel thing. Like yeah, they really did make me feel like I wasted my time there and got shamed for it rather than it being a treat. Maybe Sam Ax fans liked it, I didn't. Add that the retcon/ignoring of WV.... This movie was just a lesson to me to temper back my expectations of MCU movies by a LOT going forward.
Do you buy your comics physically or do you read them online? I've been trying to get more into comics but with there being a lot of them, I never know where or how to start.
Yeah. Honestly, I'm seeing this fairly often when it comes to this movie actually. I've seen exactly what you're saying from quite a few people. I think the age/genre gaps of what Raimi does missed the mark with a fair amount of people. Sam Raimi has a style and a "brand" at this point. and if you aren't old enough to know it i guess or don't follow him outside of things like his Spider-Man movies then you kind of "miss" some of what makes a Raimi movie a Raimi movie.
I will say.... While Evil Dead movies are "horror" genre.... they are very COMEDY too. and Campy. So, you might enjoy them more than you think??? as I am NOT a horror genre fan either and I like them a lot. (tho i also grew up on them a bit and love Bruce Campbell) Campbell's cameo was FUN for me.
but I've also admitted I left the theater before the second credits scene, where you said you felt basically insulted, because I was so excited about Clea's introduction I like... just couldn't comprehend anything else after and took off. I did not give ONE shit about what came after that and LEFT. I didn't get the "are you dumb? the movie's over" experience from Campbell's character. I'm sure with the director and actor it was meant as a fun little moment...... but you are NOT alone in feeling a bit let down by it... even insulted. And that is definitely not what you want to feel as an audience member. I'm sorry it left that mark on you. I wish a Doctor Strange movie had given something more fulfilling.
Yeah, and on top of it not really being a true Doctor Strange movie. it still kind of just skimmed past or seemed to kind of ignore some WandaVision stuff, so I get you there. If we were gonna focus on Wanda like..... then.... let's go all in then!! let's GO! but they still just... skimmed it a bit. and then we ended up with this movie that was this kind of limbo between Wanda and Strange and left me, personally, feeling a bit wanting for more from either or both of the characters. We didn't even get a true parallel story for them, given how they skimmed Supreme!Strange's story and over the "hypocrisy" of Stephen using the Darkhold (which could be and might be revisited in future movies) but. it just didn't feel... like... a complete... or whole story. because it just danced around between Wanda and Strange and didn't complete any of their interconnecting threads, imo.
I would definitely temper legit expectations of MCU movies. Like, just try to understand... these are not actually long long term thought out arcs, they're actually very much like comic book story arcs/events.... ignore how much interviews with Feige will try to sell you that they've thought all this through years and years in advance. They're also here to put butts in seats, so even if planned out they WILL adjust just to get more butts in seats.
On the Comics themselves. Let me make a separate post for that right after this that I hope you see because this post is already long, as I get longwinded about Doctor Strange

hey clov, were you sad that you didn't get to see Bedman's sister, even thou Anji said her name? The guilty gear strive story feels rushed when it came out...
E X T R E M E L Y
Man, they just had to tease me like that? So very, very cruel. I thought that was going to lead somewhere. I am still very confused about how Anji of all people knew about her, but I am not picky, I am too desperate for the bedlore to be picky about where it comes from. Are they implying there's gonna be more?? I hope so.
Strive! The game we have been following development and getting teased at for two years...
...and I don't know if it was worth it. I can't speak for the actual gameplay since I haven't experienced it, but in terms of the story? I felt like it was trying too hard to be grandiose and surprising, but I honestly think that ended up backfiring. I know GG has always had that philosophy that at times bordered on pretentious, but the one they went for in Strive didn't feel very well though-out to me (not to mention completely going back on the philosophy of Xrd, but that's another ramble entirely). I felt like there was a chronic underuse of the majority of the playable characters, especially the new ones, there were too many plot twists that had little to no buildup (and also creates a bunch of strange retcons and makes several characters look like complete idiots because of it), a lot of the romantic plotlines felt very cheap and uncompelling (I feel Sol especially was rather OOC out of nowhere), and the climax and ending tried really hard to be profound and satisfying but I feel just about all of the emotional arcs were rushed for the sake of a happy ending, I mean I do like that they tried to have it be upbeat, but in the process it involved a lot of plot contrivances (oh my god Axl's plotline and ending can go fuck itself why did they do this) and at the end of it all I didn't feel satisfied.
I didn't hate all of it, I will admit some aspects I thought were great, and it is likely that as I adjust to it parts of it will seem less frustrating to me but for now, it feels like there wasn't as much love and care put into the story for something that was meant to be the end of a decades-long series, and it felt very flat.
Genuinely? If this really is the end, I think Blazblue did a better job concluding its story. At least Blazblue felt somewhat satisfying, and I didn't hate Ragna at the end of it.
