longest thing ive written in forever & despite it being unedited and also like 3AM im proud of it so im posting it without a readmore........ be niceys to me

The grass crunched. A cool shade fell over his back, he could feel the presence there. Shadow only hugged his knees tighter.

Sonic sat down, of course it was him. His feet kicked against the cliff face, small rocks bounced away and into the swirling sea. The setting sun lit up his face and turned his eyes golden. He paid Shadow no mind, staring out onto the horizon with an unfamiliar expression.

“What do you want?“ Shadow's voice came hoarse in his throat.

Sonic only glanced his way. ”To sit with you for a bit. That okay?”

“Do as you wish.”

“Alright.”

The waves churned beneath them, the radiant and otherworldly hum of Angel Island an ambient backdrop. The dusk light embraced the water gently, orange glow wavering, before slowly creeping beyond and leaving the world with blackness. Already the nighttime was cold. A light breeze bit into Shadow's skin. It split him open, peeled something off and carried it out of reach. Small layers of protection shed with the slightest nudge. He had company. What was wrong with him?

He found himself counting, five in through his nose and five out through his mouth. But the air was so thick despite the altitude, he felt his nose and esophagus clogging.

“Shadow,” Sonic's voice cut through it all like a hot knife. He shifted and it drew Shadow's head up. “I've never told anyone this, okay? Not even Tails. So promise you won't snitch.”

Sonic held up a gloveless paw, head still turned away and pinkie outstretched. Shadow frowned. The fur on his palms was darker, almost cream, compared to the peach on the rest of his arms. His pads were darker than that, a brown that looked black in the low lighting.

Shadow looked down at his own bare paws where they clenched the fur on his legs. Slowly, he pried one of them away and linked a red pinkie with Sonic's.

Sonic hid his profile. Cold air separated them again. But after a few seconds, he shrugged to himself, and admitted, “I know who my parents are.”

The breeze picked up, adopting a slight howl.

“I've had lots of people come to me and tell me they're my parents.“ Sonic laughed, but it came out heavy. Bitter in a way he'd never heard, almost alien coming from the blue hedgehog's mouth. ”Comes with being famously orphaned, y’know? Whatever.“

Shadow stayed silent.

“She emailed me, with the, um,” he waved a paw around, “the public address Tails set up. For fans. He assumed it was like the other times: someone making something up for attention. So I ignored it.“

His brows furrowed, eyes tracking Sonic's arm as it lowered so he could tear up a handful of grass and toss it over the cliff. It fluttered away in the wind. He could feel its fingers, its breath, climb between his teeth; ”How'd you figure out she wasn't lying?“

”It was mostly a gut feeling.” Another shrug. “There were also pictures. She asked if I wanted to meet up. Promised she wouldn't go public with it either way, told me she just wanted to see if I was doing alright and... apologize in person.”

“Did you go?” Shadow felt his body lean forward, eagerly listening despite himself.

A second clump of grass went into the sky. “Nah.”

Something molten welled up inside of him. He couldn't keep the venom off his tongue when he snapped, “Why not? She clearly loved you if she reached out.”

”I don't remember a lot of my life, before Eggman. Maybe she loved me.“ Their eyes finally met. ”But that didn't matter to her then. It wasn't enough.“

Shadow tore his gaze away, back onto the water. His paw, the one he'd used to linked pinkies, dug into the dirt. His talons gouged a chunk out. ”You don't forgive her.“

Sonic went quiet for a moment. “The way I see it what's done is done, yeah? I'm over it.”

Shadow could tell Sonic was trying to regain eye contact, felt his paw meet his shoulder like a gunshot. He flinched away, vision blurring. Sonic didn't chase it.

“I'm just telling you... you're not alone, Shadow.”

Shadow squeezed the muddy clod of earth in his fist so hard he could feel it ooze. His breaths came quick and sharp, he wanted to do something. Turn and scream at Sonic for doing this to him. He'd rejected his responsibility, the one Shadow gave him, Shadow's whole life, like it was an unsavoury article of clothing. And then he sat down and talked to him like he could understand. What could he know about loneliness? Adored by humanity, revered as a hero. Successful in all the ways Shadow would not be, even as the Ultimate Lifeform.

He wanted to kill him. The yearning was horribly safe, it buzzed in his head like a heater.

Instead, he curled up into a pathetic ball. And this time, when the nighttime wind blew in from a new direction, Sonic shielded him from the chill.

I do have to b honest tho, I do Not think that trailer was queerbaiting in any form. They stood next to each other and Shadow carried his injured friend to save his life so that his friend could save their universe. The "love you too shadow" bit was more queerbait-y, and even then I don't really think it was that much either!! Maybe I'm too aro for this shit idk

I love going on Tumblr because I can't sleep hoping to get cheered up by the fandom blogs I follow and then having to clear out my following tab because my feed is nothing but "the world is ending everyone is horrible DNI list donate to the 50th person that can't afford rent".

I fully understand even making this post is hypocritical but I don't have the energy to fight with my phone constantly crashing to draw a doodle to justify the post otherwise I just wish I could find a blog that doesn't appear to be a normal art blog only to suddenly find myself overrun with depressing reblogs. Why do people actively look for and repost depressing things on the internet aren't most people nowadays complaining about being overstressed. Maybe don't search out sources of stress m8 that's the main reason I don't use Twitter or Instagram like cmon man anyway. Uh feel free to send an ask if you want me to draw something, don't reblog this post to say it because that would mean you just did not fuckin have reading comprehension at all

got all that? great! here's my final unorganized little rambles about the show:

shoutout to Rusty Rose's Birdie, who only appears in the very first and very last eps for some reason 😭 her speech about it not being her power source came outta nowhere too, but i loved the message behind it

when everyone arrives at the Grim, just before the ep ends, Nine starts breathing heavily and it. instantly reminded me of Movie!Tails when the bar was calling them freaks. fuck. its a nice reminder of where Nine's coming from

speaking of Nine his poses getting more unhinged over time!! hell yeah

i love that the final fight(s) felt like a kid smashing 3 different Lego sets together, real Robot Pirate Island shit

i laughed a little too hard when the Grim's dome started closing in cus Nine's citadel-thing already reminded me of a thing that happened in Fortnite once, but hell naw they had to add The Storm too sdfghj

METAL BIG DESTROYED ME LJKHGFDV im SO glad i wasnt spoiled about it!!! a while in i started finding it creepy instead of funny, which is an added bonus

i was spoiled about the Advance flashback and its clashing sprites though. the utter whiplash of seeing that without warning mightve made me choke on my hot cheeto puffs. someone's already remade it btw, check it out

i fistpumped at the small reprise of "me beauty" gfhjk ill miss you so much Dread

we're four years into the 2020's and Sonic has nearly died an agonizingly slow death 3 times in 3 different continuities! and dare i say it was delicious every time >:)

unless Word of God says otherwise I'm gonna assume that the giant shadow at the end was The Return Of Metal Big lpoihgfds

So... Twitter, huh? My spoiler filters there had some leaks, and I saw some discussion out of context that... actually made me kinda scared to finish the show. But then I did, and had fun with it just like the other two seasons, and I remembered that Twitter gets high-strung about things that don't matter so much, and that giving it sway over how much I enjoy things is silly lol.

Yes, I think the last season could've been paced differently so it wasn't 5 episodes of the same Final Boss Fight. Yes, I think the writing switches jarringly between gearing for a young new audience and for a seasoned old one. Yes, I think the 2D flashbacks look and move worse than what fans constantly make for free. Yes, I think the final episode doesn't do nearly as much housekeeping as it should (does the Shatterverse still exist or not??). Yes, I think declaring the show is canon to the games or whatever they said probably wasn't the best idea. And yes, I think Black Rose should've had a shoulder-parrot!Birdie to match the other Amys. All valid critiques! All sensible things to think when you've been around the Sonic bush!

But I swear to god, people on Twitter act like these things spoil the whole package. Where's the nuance? Why does every opinion there become an absolute worth tearing others down for? Is it the character limit? I bet it's the character limit.

There's so much I love about this show that were infeasible for the Sonic brand just 3-4 years ago. Externalizing the characters' facets to explore them in-depth. Said exploration spanning multiple episodes instead of being one-and-done. The sheer amount of genuine Sonadow food (and I don't actively do shipping, so me adding it here should hold a lot of weight). The snappy, playful, yet blistering fight scenes that, dare I say, feel like a successful TV-budget Spider-Verse. It was all so much fun!

But I guess stuff like Green Hill being the gang's "home" is a big deal-breaker?? Like?? I thought that was silly too, but not worth ratio'ing people with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse over? Get well soon, I guess??

Rambling over, shout-out to the entire country of Canada for giving me the most fun I've had with a Sonic show since X! I'm gonna go figure out how to address all this as The End lol

So i made a sonadow fankid

This is Shade!!! (flags are girlthing and aroace flags) heres some bullet points bc paragraphs hard

1st i wanna point out that the shoes ARE hand-me-downs; they used to be sonics when he was little

tails helped design her inhibitor rings; heres a ref without them + without gloves or shoes

shade has the ability to manipulate chaos energy like her fathers, but it takes a lot of training and practice for her to even begin to harness it. even chaos snap was a struggle for a while, and most of her strength comes from the combat skills sonic and shadow taught her

most of her chaos manipulation needs a chaos emerald to work, otherwise it could take a lot, if not all, of her energy

she also would kin kris deltarune, she likes to chaos snap into places to jumpscare people

also her middle name is maria

full name is technically Shade Maria Robotnik (the hedgehog)

shes autistic also though p much all my character are

she speaks very monotonously, and isnt very openly expressive

that being said, she is incredibly caring, and contains so much love (and hate, if anyone tries to harm her family)

AND because idk how much we canonically know about the black arms, xenobiology is free game! SO heres some facts about her alien biology

the little tbh on the bottom isnt a shitpost, thats actually what shade looked like for the first year or so of its life! it could be held with one hand, was very active, and could crawl along walls and ceilings like a bug

everyone was. incredibly unsettled, save for her dads lol

she also has bioluminescent green blood, as does shadow according to my hcs

on top of that, the black arms were a hivemind species—shade didnt inherit this fully, but

she Does have a resulting telepathic link with sonic and shadow; in a sense that they can sense when she is happy, upset, distressed, afraid, etc.

they also can project their emotions to each other

while this can be used in emergencies, it also results to some psychological warfare at the dinner table if shade loses dessert privileges

shadow has the stronger connection to her on account of actually having alien dna

it can also flare out its quills of threatened or upset, kinda like this
