ramble of my scattered thoughts on the piece under cut as usual cuz i love talking 😋

This has been an idea I've been cookin for a while, and it was so cluttered and unlike any other ensemble piece I've made... and I decided I oughta do it anyway. I love Miku, I love Vocaloid, and I wanted to do something really ambitious and crazy for her anniversary. Crazy that she's turning her "canon" age this year TwT

I had the idea floating around since like, May...? And then finally started acting on it around June 18. I'm terrible with deadlines, obvious with how I can never make a silly birthday post in time, so I started wayyyy ahead to make sure I have some room to be lazy lol, especially with an idea as ambitious as this.

This was finished on July 12! So I had to sit on this for an annoying amount of time. Very difficult for someone like me who just wants to talk about everything I'm working on to the masses. But at the very least, that gave me the time to work on the draft for this post.

Here's some ~behind the scenes~ scribbles leading up to the finished piece!

Left is the chicken scratch plan i made in my handy dandy notebook (whenever things are getting real and ambitious, i always made a rough ROUGH plan in there. Usually I'd do a rough pass of the full thing, but this was too complicated for me to do traditionally. I majorly benefited from digital tools to make this possible). CyberDiva and CyberSongman were considered, but I ended up cutting them cuz I just didn't feel like drawing them sorry-- (just pretend they're off to the side. They gave Ruby and Clara the pizza lol). Right is the "final" completed sketch (before I decided to include Chika mid-way through coloring and VY1 and VY2 near the finish line). I started by drawing the main "groups" separated on a different canvas so I can plop them into the main canvas for easy rearranging and transforming. However I got lazy and ended up drawing everyone in the bottom right corner directly on the canvas since I liked seeing the big picture of everyone's positions. Y'know.

Almost excluded Chika! But I like her design so much that I just felt like including her last-minute. You win this time, Chika fans. VY1 and VY2 were very close to being cut! I added them when I began doing the banner and thought "eh why not". I figured their non-human designs would be pretty easy to include pushed back in the bg. Ik VY1 is more commonly associated with the fan design, but I referenced the hairpin cuz it was simpler and the fan looked very annoying to draw 😭

Sorry to the fans of many Vocaloids I had to cut because this composition was insane enough as is. I promise I wanted to include fellas like CUL, LUMi and Sachiko 😭 I will admit I was a little biased on who I wanted to include over others. Like, I don't normally care for Bruno and Clara, but I wanted to get some more international 'loids in the mix. Also wanted to stick in the realm of official designs and not fan-designs since, as much as I can appreciate those, are just a whole "wait who is that guy supposed to be" situation I didn't wanna deal with. I also did wanna include even more character references through the balloons, but they ended up being kind of ugly and overcomplicated the BG :,) (Oh, and while this was originally planned to be a Vocaloid-only piece, I did end up including Teto, Neru, and Haku 'cuz those are Miku's besties dude!!! They may not be Officially in the club but they're her girls and it would be criminal to not invite them to her birthday).

Anyway, this project marks the first time I've drawn a lot of Vocaloids. Lily, Piko, Rana, Yuki, Yukari, Miki, Maika, and many more lol. All of 'em I've heard or seen in passing, but now I actually drew them, and some have really cool and fun designs!! I got into a habit of drawing Merli after this since I just love her design for example. And I'll probably be drawing more lol!!

Oh and the last thing I'll add for now!! The cake is indeed made up of various song references!! I wanted to reference the "big four" producers, just absolute icons in Vocaloid history. The pink/black checkerboard is "World is Mine" (Ryo), the crescents on the side is "Rolling Girl" (Wowaka), the smiley faces is "Matryoshka" (Hachi), and the three hearts on the side is "The Vampire" (DECO*27, which is sort of a symbol of his whole Mannequin album tbh). I know "The Vampire" is a bit modern but I couldn't think of anything else off the top of my head. I'm a fake DECO fan I know 😔 "Matryoshka" was originally going to be referenced in the colors of the candles but believe me it looked like shit so I just went for something else last minute 😭

I have to deal with tagging all these characters now for my page,,, in the drafts my tags got cut off after a certain point so I think I'm massively breaching the tag limit 😭 um... I'll figure that out later...

not losing sleep that i can't tag everyone, even for page organization purposes because some characters have pretty generic names and some are a little hard to see in full yknow. If you're one of those people who tag every character in the art piece you reblog... I am very sorry.

I came across a tiktok about how much they hate when writers put illustrations into their fics, apparently they feel they "take away their agency", which eh you do you I guess, no one can force ya to like something

But where I draw the line is when they complained it's always ugly art and it's cringe they even share it, and so many jumped on board with that sentiment too. Just insults over insults.

The worst is when the comments went after authors for posting fanart they get from readers "it's always so ugly too, why are they proud of getting it lmao"

And the fucking audacity. The gall. The ungratefulness. You just know these brats never created anything they're proud of, never had someone love their work so much they'd create for it, never felt the euphoria of someone sending them a sketch or a ficlet or something pertaining to their creation.

I've never respected human beings less than while reading those comments. Absolute ghouls.

I want you to know, every ask, headcanon, idea, sketch, art, anything - I get from you guys, it always makes me smile. I adore it. I save it, keep it in a special little folder.

if you dont mind, how do you lay out your anatomy and stuff before ykw... you draw over it(?) also how do you do different face shapes, ive been having trouble with that recently. sorry if i asked too much

AGHH sorry!! It took me so long to reply to you ;_;

References are the key! If I have a pose in mind, 90% of the times I'll be searching for a pose as close to it as possible (never take more than an hour to pick your refs though! It's easy to get lost in the internet rabbit hole)

So, let's assume I want to draw someone sitting (one of the hardest poses for me to this day. I hate legs)

Let's start analyzing it, shall we?

One thing that I learned and changed my point of view on references entirely is that you have to check the "empty spaces"! Especially if you're struggling with placing stuff like arms or legs.

Look! Triangles! And uh...other weird shapes.

Let's try to just draw the outilen of our subject here now.

Note: if you're a beginner I suggest to do this with a grid for the first attempts. Once you're confident enough you can try drawing without it :)

Not a perfect one, I know, but we still have blocked our character's position. With less details we can focus on their posture a lot better.

Now, this is the ugly part: construction! We live in a 3D world so all our body parts are tridimensional (obviously) and you probably already know this but torso, arms, legs and all that work exactly like 3D shapes.

...sorry. My sketches are always messy lol

I don't have the knowledge to try and explain to you how anatomy works, unfortunately. but there's a lot of tutorials out there with this method :)

In this phase I always take some liberty. Maybe I raise the head a little, change the hands position and things like that. I've never been good at copying, I have a very short attemption spawn lol

Clothes gets added once you've layed out your character nakey (ehe)

You can see how they wrap around the subject body's here. I honestly just...look at them and try to mimic them. After many many drawings you'll be able to figure it out even without references :) (though it's always good to use them)

There ya go!

This is a very fast tutorial and I hope it helps but PLEASE if you can, study from professionals because i'm just a smol cartoonist and I'm still learning myself. I know studying can be super boring but if you want a suggestion...use your characters ;) that's how I did it and it made it a lot more enjoyable.

Deleted scenelets, Getaway red herring, Irradion Arc

Hello :D I felt compelled to share another deleted scene. Or two. They are very short.

I originally wanted a Getaway red herring in the Irradion Arc. Namely that Getaway would be implicated in the creation of the remnants (zombies), as a distraction from the actual villain, Stardrive. I really liked the idea, but there were SO many things going on in that arc that I eventually dropped it. That's why these deleted scenes are super short. They're more like sketches for the idea, which was that the zombies would be just intelligent/sentient enough to actually be warning the Lost Lighters "get away [from here]!" But then I had to think about how them still being sentient affected their situation, and etc and etc with the logic there. Once I knew the red herring thing wouldn't be going into the story, I stopped developing the scenes.

First scenelet is Rodimus and Drift fighting the zombies immediately upon arriving on the Irradion. Second scenelet is Rodimus talking to Stardrive about Getaway.

SCENELET ONE:

A former medic, judging by the faint red symbols on her plating, grabbed Rodimus and moaned, “Getaway...”

“Getaway?!” Rodimus kicked her chest in. “No, thanks.” Before he had time to remember if Getaway was in this dimension's Autopedia, Drift appeared beside him, cutting another remnant apart.

“You heard it, too,” said Drift.

“Is there a Getaway in this dimension?”

“Yes.” Drift slashed a remnant in two. A cloud of silver erupted from its spark chamber. “Ugh, the smell. This dimension's Getaway stole, quote, 'powerful, ancient artifacts' and disappeared. His current whereabouts are unknown. Other remnants also said his name.”

“Powerful, ancient artifacts, eh? The kind that can suck the life outta mechs and make them do your bidding? That's like, his favorite thing.” Rodimus punched a remnant in the face. “He better not be behind this. Lurking around abandoned Decepticon stations, turning poor” – Rodimus squinted at the nearest remnant's plating decals – “mineral miners into zombies.”

“Doesn't really feel like his MO,” said Drift. He elbowed a remnant in the torso. It fell back, moaning. “Though you never know, across dimensions.”

“Yeah. Maybe instead of delusions of Primus, in this dimension, he has delusions of Mortilus.”

“That makes more sense than I want to admit,” said Drift.

SCENELET TWO:

“Nothing they can't handle,” said Rodimus. “Do you know a mech named Getaway?”

Stardrive's jaw dropped. “I- That's the word they say!” She pointed to a remnant with her foot. “It's a name?”

“It is,” said Rodimus. “An ugly, nasty, traitorous one.”

"Delusions of Mortilus" sounds like a cool band name xD A Getaway with delusions of Mortilus might've been even more dangerous than the one we got in MTMTE :u

Molluck Anatomy Practicing

Man, it happened again... I just had to draw before going to sleep but yeah, finished after sleeping. I should try to do more sketchy sketches but it just happens that I just gotta do details and stuff... I still cannot really stand my line art, so I gotta kinda hide it under shading and stuff...

I'm not good at anatomy but I'm doing my best to learn it, though it's trickier here since Molluck ain't easy to draw... He got so long arms that I kinda had to make him have an odd pose to have at least one hand visible... My original sketch just didn't have big enough hands, so after fixes, I just had to accept this situation. I feel like I'm still not drawing his body proportions right... Also, just some weeks ago I realized that I have drawn his hands incorrectly multiple times, his fingers I mean... It just feels like I keep learning new things about him...

But well, this one feels like the best one so far. I guess that at least after getting that proper (poseable) 3D Molluck model done I start to understand how his anatomy, proportions and such work... I just see that there's something wrong with the anatomy and pose here but well, I just need to practice more. Though, it's kinda difficult to pose his legs since well, they are pretty dead, atrophic from not being used... I wonder if he is even able to move them, even a bit, or do they just hang around... But his odd little legs are somehow endearing, at least for me. Also yeah, I don't know why but Molluck looks somehow confused here... Like he had just woken up.

Oh, and this did remind me of one older traditional sketch similar to this I have never shown:

You can see him having incorrect hands here but it's just the amount of joints in his fingers. I might like the style better here but his body has more problems here.

Oh, and I just feel like adding that sometimes I just think about that how there seems to be less 'Molluck thirst' than it used to be like 3-2 years ago. Well, I can get it but mine hasn't faded away, at all, just getting 'worse'... Man, after two months it's been 3 years of Molluck for me. It just feels like I finally have found the right one for me. Getting into the Emperor (BG3) just strengthened this feeling since I just saw how strong my feelings for Molluck are, preventing me from really having other characters around me. Though, the Emperor only started to interest me because his appearance reminded me of Molluck (and I love octopuses) but he is still my favourite character in that game and I love him but only as a friend. (I even bought the whole game because of him... But it was worth it and I'm currently doing my 5th playthrough...)

I do understand if someone thinks that I'm 'crazy' or something since yes, I do am crazy about Molluck! Also, I'm used to be seen as 'odd', like my whole life, so yeah, it's just what I am. It's just that Molluck is so 'me', like I have said many times; he felt like me as a Gluk and that's what got me into him. I remember feeling nothing toward him when I saw him for the first time, both in AO and SoulStorm. I'm just kinda immune to appearance stuff... Someone can look pleasant but eh, it evokes no desire in me. I don't even wanna call someone beautiful before knowing the person. Stereotypically 'hot' people look even ugly to me... Well, I often see that I have different opinions than the others but I don't even find Molluck ugly, even he is kinda meant to be ugly, at least to humans, since the SoulStorm art book calls him ugly and says that he is even uglier now, but he is said to be attractive by Glukkon standards, so... Well, I seem to be attractive by 'human standards', so a good match, eh? I have said this earlier but I have just heard from multiple people that I'm (very) handsome... I don't even know what to do with my appearance, it's just for identifying me, what else it needs to be... I mean, I'm not even interested in looking attractive, just pleasant enough for myself.

I don't know what has made the others thirsty for Molluck but, like I said, my reason was that I saw myself in him and only after that his appearance catched my attention. But even it was so, man, he do is such a beautiful Gluk! And well, even if there do are some difficulties due to his body since it limits him, there are ways to deal with it and I'm glad to help him out; he can give big hugs and kisses! I still honestly don't know about these terms, like what he is to me, thought many terms can exist at the same time but the main one I mean... I prefer friend-like love but it's more than that still... Romantic love is something like seeing the other as ideal, not about true love, just being in love, if I have understood correctly (I have seriously needed to read multiple definitions for it and I'm still not sure...). I see that Molluck isn't perfect and I don't want him to be perfect either but he is perfect one for me still. I'm basically trying to say that I don't really feel like using this 'fictional other' term like many self-shippers seem to use since it doesn't describe mine well enough. Well, whatever, I just love this Gluk so much!

Arashi: [ Once upon a time, there lived a Princess with a very beautiful heart. Of course, she was not only beautiful on the inside, but in her outward appearance too,… … and the name of this Princess was Narukami Arashi. ]

Scenario Writer: Akira Season: Winter Characters: Mikejima Madara, Narukami Arashi, Sakasaki Natsume, Aoba Tsumugi

< The video: Early afternoon that day. In the Common Room at Dancing Cranes Home. >

Arashi: [ Once upon a time, there lived a Princess with a very beautiful heart.

Of course, she was not only beautiful on the inside, but in her outward appearance too,… … and the name of this Princess was Narukami Arashi. ]

Arashi: [ However, there was someone who did not like the Princess at all. That person was the Queen of the country, who had a beautiful appearance but possessed an ugly and twisted heart.

—Hmm? The Queen’s name? Well, for now, let’s call her Madara ♪

And although the Queen was the stepmother of the beautiful Princess, there was no familial love between them—

—because the black-hearted Queen was wildly jealous of her step-daughter’s great beauty.

Today, as she always did, the Queen asked of her magic mirror which only reflects the truth—

“Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”

—Eh? You’re saying that would be Narukami Arashi?

Grrr~! So infuriating! If only that person weren’t here, I would surely be the most beautiful in the whole wide world! ]

Arashi: [ That’s it, I should get rid of that beautiful Narukami Arashi! Then, I will be the most beautiful person in the world! MA~MAMAMAMAMA! (1) (Laughter) ]

Tsumugi: What an interesting story! It’s full of openings for a straight man (2) to interact with!

Natsume: SeriousLY? How can you lie to the children like thIS? What’s this about the Princess’ name being Narukami Arashi?

Arashi: Hmph! That’s fine, isn’t it! Fairy tales are for living your dreams, aren’t they! I want to be a Princess too!

Natsume: WeLL, I do understand how you feEL, but won’t the children be confused to hear you’re playing the Princess roLE?

Arashi: Hold on! Why would that result in any confusion, is there a law that says a Princess must be female?! What does it matter anyway; fairy tales are fantasies, after all!

Madara: Urm. By the way, why am I laughing like that humongous character in One P*ece (1)? That’s a reeeally strange character to be portraying me as, isn’t it?

Arashi: Fufu! While I was reading the manga, the thought, “Ah, this person is just like Mama” went through my mind!

Madara: All the same, I’m not that huge either, am I?

Arashi: Ohh seriously, that’s enough. Stop interrupting and watch quietly!

Arashi: Erm, actually... One of the reasons I’m showing you guys this segment of the video was because I wanted to showcase how especially charming I was as I read the picture book to the children. However—

—There’s another reason as to why I want you to see this.

Somehow, as I was reading the picture book to the children, some of them had very strange reactions to the story… …

Madara: Huh? Strange reactions—?

Arashi: Yes. I mentioned encountering an “unusual incident” earlier, didn’t I?

By the way, you might have already guessed it by now, but the title of the fairy tale I was reading to the children was “Snow White”.

There were a few pages missing in the picture book for some reason, so I improvised by doing up a few sketches and adding them in.

Look, this scene in particular is my favourite—

The scene where Narukami Arashi, with the seven cute dwarves—Sorry, I mean the four foolish Knights—repel the assassins dispatched by the evil Queen together ♪

Natsume: That’s amaziNG. You’re casually altering the plot of the story as you pleaSE.

Madara: Er, how can you just get rid of the assassins sooo easily? The story would just end there, wouldn't it?

Arashi: That doesn’t matter~, the ending’s the only part that needs to make sense in the end—No, in fact all will be well as long as the story ends well.

Most people will be satisfied as long as the story ends with—”And they all lived happily ever after.”

Tsumugi: Indeed. That much is true.

Madara: But then, what about the strange reactions you mentioned the children having earlier? Right now, the only thing I find odd is how they’re able to listen to this story so attentively to the very end, though?

Arashi: That’s what’s coming up next. See, it’s the last scene of the most beautiful Princess in the world, Narukami Arashi’s—or rather Snow White’s—story now. It seems this picture book is pretty faithful to the original, truly scary “dark fairy tales” because—

The Princess made the Queen dance on a scorching hot iron plate as revenge for all the terrible things she had done.

It’s meant to be a satisfying scene where good triumphs over evil, and the evil villain gets their just desserts, right?

Arashi: However, as I was enthusiastically reading that scene out loud, several of the children started crying—

—and they definitely weren't tears of joy.

Arashi: They weren’t quietly sobbing either. They started shrieking loudly all of a sudden, as if possessed by demons, or evil spirits—

Some of the children even started throwing up uncontrollably.

I was at a total loss for what to do—I almost started crying myself.

Fortunately, one of the staff came hurrying over right away and soothed the agitated children, calming them down.

Natsume: OhHH? How impressiVE. I guess that’s a genuine professional childcare worker for yOU.

Tsumugi: Hmm~. Getting children to stop crying once they start is no easy task, though… …

Arashi: No. The children’s crying stopped instantly. It seemed as if a magic spell had been cast on them.

Natsume: … … Could it be the children were administered an inhalant sedatiVE?

Arashi: No, it didn’t seem like that at all.

Looking back on it now, the method of it was really baffling, though… …

That staff worker simply went around whispering something into the children’s ears, but they recovered and stopped crying immediately.

11. What pairing/character/subject did you create the most for this year?

Second place goes to the science bros of course, the first it's here! Aisling is a strong first, it's been... A rough year (full of great things and new friends I am very grateful for, but eh), and she was just the happy-go-lucky character I needed. Thematically, it's a long sort of "Enjoy what you have even if everything else sucks".

23. What WIP(s) are you taking into next year with you?

Gifts I didn't finish in time. Maybe one less because I'm at a good point. A discarded sketch for an ongoing project that I like and want to do anyway for me. I have one original story to rewrite or decide to scratch/give to an author better fit than me for it (I LOVE that story and the characters... I do not think I'm the right person to tell it, lately. Maybe it's seasonal depression, I'm trying to rewrite it after more research but I'm a little disheartened and don't know what to do).

Dragon Age wise, this is my folder of unfinished things:

(Other's is a folder with drawings of my characters by other people, I keep it on my pc for rainy days <3)

28. Did you learn anything about your art/process/style this year?

That colouring-wise, for me it's either fully graphic design and blocky, or very textured. Cell shade isn't for me and I do not like it on my style. That it's true that top tier art supplies don't make you a good artist, but they do help you getting the process faster and easier. That I may not like orange all that much, but it leads to nice results in art. *begrudgingly* I can colour a full comic! :D (and I still hate Anime Ace as a font. It's stronger than me, I'm sorry, I just think it's ugly and I won't use it.) Oh. And I half-learnt to draw horses (half because they're difficult and their anatomy is terribly weird HOW ARE THEY STANDING)

My brain be like: no you have art block and can't draw anything for months, but when you're on a short trip with your best friends - and don't actually have time for it - inspiration suddenly hits you and you have to sketch something in the middle of the night🤷🏼‍♀️

Drew this on Friday night after a sorta overwhelming day (I had a great time with my friends - we watched the Barbie movie -, but we also had a really exhausting afternoon before that, walked a lot around the city and it was loud and overwhelming and just too much for me), and I was in desperate need for some quiet and comfort. I didn't originally intend to post it, but kind of changed my mind, idk maybe to counteract the fact that my irl friends think Davy is ugly xD

Might or might not clean up the sketch and make a finished drawing out of it once I get back home and have access to my computer. I still haven't fully figured out Selena's design yet, but I'm in need of more art of her and Davy😭💕

It's just a very rough sketch, plus I drew only from memory so Davy probably looks a little ... eh. The second reason I decided to post it anyways was because I liked the colour combination👀 Although it actually happened completely by chance. I wanted to make my screen as dark as possible to not disturb my sleeping friends, so I filled the first layer on the canvas with black and then drew with white, basically "inverted". Also I only used different colours for Davy and Selena because I could see way easier how their bodies are intersecting and it helped a lot figuring out the poses. I use this method often in my drawing process, but somehow I also liked particularly how it looked here :)

First one Los Primos! This was my first time drawing Beni y Cochi. Kinda don't like the way Beni came out but eh.

This next one is also a prompt from them! Some Cochicuaz imma be real I'm def gonna draw more of this. They cute and shit.

These next are sketches/wips I never bothered finishing because I'm fucking lazy.

So the first one is Quackity being Don Pato and shit I just never got around to doing anything more than sketching for that one.

The second one is some luckity bullshit but I dunno I just don't like the way it's turning out look kinda fucking ugly if ya ask me. I also feel that it could be gayer and more dramatic.

And the third one is this Quackity piece that was suppose to have like a painting feel type vibe to it but the way the face looks kinda pisses me off and I originally had like schlatt in this too but then other characters could also fulfill the role/placement but then I was also debating with myself if I could have it be a whole you are your own undoing type of shit. I dunno.

These will probably never get finished but I decided to share them.
