Wrestling is not a love story, it's a Fairy Tale for masochists. A comedy for people who criticize punchlines. A fantasy most can't understand, a spectacle no one can deny. Lines are blurred. Heroes are villains. Budgets are cut. Business is business.

But it can also be a land where Dead men walk.

Where Honor makes you Elite. Where Demons run for office. And Rock bottom is a reason to rejoice. WOOOOO! It's an escape. A reason to point the blame at anyone but yourself for 2-3 hours. An excuse to be a kid again, and nothing matters except the moment we are in.

Wrestling is not a love story, it's much more. It's hope.

And in a world surrounded in hate, greed and violence, a world where closure may never come. We all know a place that has hot and cold hope on tap. For better or for worse.

Syndication Interlude: WWF Superstars 11/20/93 - Bret Hart VS Irwin R. Shyster

*From the November 20, 1993 episode of WWF Superstars, with your hosts Vince McMahon and Rio Rodgers. Rio Rodgers is Bruce "Brother Love" Pritchard doing an impression of Dusty Rhodes and, I guess, was their plan to replace Jerry Lawler. It, thankfully, isn't an idea that lasts very long.

Bret "Hitman" Hart VS Irwin R. Shyster IRS attacks Bret before the bell - and before he can even give his sunglasses away to a kid in the audience. Bret takes control pretty quickly, sending Irwin to the floor. The hype for Survivor Series is off the charts here, but they still don't have a real reason for the Harts to want Shawn Michaels in the ring. Rodgers promises the debut of "Rio's Round-up" at the Survivor Series Showdown, where he will interview Shawn Michaels as well as the Hart parents. (This is also to be the FINAL edition of Rio's Round-up.) Nice match between these two, as is really to be expected - although Brother Love is annoying as shit here. We're talking Bartlett levels here. Mr. Fuji makes his way to ringside to scout out Yokozuna's opponent for the Showdown as we go to commercial.

IRS is in control when we come back, hitting a backdrop for two. IRS hits a legdrop onto Bret's groin (er, "lower abdominal area" </ McMahon>). Mr Fuji: "IRS very good. Punish him for not paying taxes." Another legdrop from Irwin gets another two. Crowd chants USA even though the guy in the match who isn't American is the face. Irwin was in the U.S. Express, for god's sake! Bret battles back - but Fuji trips him as he runs the ropes and IRS keeps control. Irwin irish-whips the Hitman - who slides out of the ring and nails Mr. Fuji! Fuji takes a pretty awesome slow motion fall to the floor - probably more because we was 100 years old than for any kind of effect, but it looked cool nonetheless. IRS tries to pull him into the ring, but Bret hits a neckbreaker. Bret hits a Russian Leg Sweep for two as Yokozuna comes to ringside to check up on his manager. Small package gets another two. Side backbreaker and a diving elbow gets two again. Mr. Fuji hits Bret in the back with flag for a disqualification in a sadly anti-climactic finish. **1/4. IRS continues his beatdown - and Bret is saved by his brother Owen! Yoko tries to climb into the ring and Bret dropkicks him back to the floor. The usual gang of idiots keep everyone separate as we go back to commercial.
