for the dnd questions! 6, 8, and 12 for you! annnd 24 and 25 for all three characters (iraelin, vendetta, and hawthorne)
6. Plot or character focused?
I do love plot, but the characters are key--if you're not tying the characters into what's going on, then it often feels like it could be anyone doing the story, and those characters are what your players are creating and bringing to the table!
8. Do you prefer world or character creation?
both!! they're very different, and they fit different moods and fulfill different creative urges. Usually, one will even lead into the other, because I'll create a character to live in the world or a world for the character to live in
12. What’s your favorite part of playing DND?
I just love hanging out with my friends!!! but also I love to find cool mechanical tricks and interactions (and sometimes make people angry about them)--hey did you know that you in 5e you can be visible while still being invisible and that even if you're visible while you're invisible you still have advantage on attacks against creatures who can see you and creatures who can see you have disadvantage on attacks against you? did you know that a level 5 rune knight / sorcerer can grow to size Huge and grapple any creature in the game? did you know that the recent giant UA has a feat that gives you powerful build, which stacks with Monster of the Multiverse Goliath because they changed the race's trait name to Little Giant and merged powerful build with athletics proficiency, allowing you to better optimize for carrying capacity? did you know that--
24. If they were the god of anything, what would they be the god of?
Vendetta: schemes, betrayal, hidden identities
Hawthorne: magic, outcasts
Iraelin: moonlight, redemption, new beginnings
25. Do they believe in love?
Vendetta doesn't believe in romantic love--he loves his sister, his mentor, even his family in general in a sort of distant way, but other than that love is just another tool that can be used to get what he wants. He takes care never to let anyone know what he loves, because he doesn't want anyone to get that kind of leverage on him.
Hawthorne believes in love because he feels it every day. He loves his family, he loves his friends, and he knows they love him back.
Iraelin... well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? 😉

I still think “she discovers that change isn’t something you do once; it’s a choice you make, every day.” is one of the best improvised lines I’ve ever done

okay help me decide: should my drow have red eyes, or black/no iris just big pupil eyes?
and also if anybody has some good resources for making character portraits, especially full body with lots of clothes options, that would be cool

Me, going through my day and then having a moment where emotionally I do the thing where a character is sleeping and then their eyes open real wide and they bolt upright to a sitting position: what if this character had sharp teeth or fangs?

okay I thought I was done but I ruminated first a couple of days before posting which was good because I added one last question so NOW. here it is. my first uquiz. the results are deliberately vague for full effect.
also the link url has “cis” in it which I think is very funny in a quiz about a trans character

Im curious about #64 in the D&D ask!! What does Iraelin want us to know 🤔😆
64: What is one thing they want each party member to know?
Oh, interesting!
Okay, let me think.
I think, first and foremost, for all of them, that she’s trying to be better. For each individually:
Bermuda: that she didn’t want to leave him behind
Chloe: that she doesn’t have to put on an act for Iraelin to trust/accept her
Rockie: he’s not her dad
Rockie (for real): she’s not sure they would have made it out of that first fight if he hadn’t stepped in
Atlas: that she trusts Atlas to think quickly in a bad situation
Ferris: she’s not sure they don’t have a soul. and also she’s maybe not as against the beans energy as she seems, sometimes. time and place, is all.
ask me questions about my dnd character(s)!

Me: Iraelin spent the first 100 years of her life being indoctrinated into this fucked up society, benefitting from the suffering of others both directly and indirectly, most of that time actively learning to serve a being of pure, undiluted evil, constantly watchful for betrayal, taking part in unforgivable acts. She decided to escape for purely selfish reasons on the very cusp of what her people consider adulthood and has spent only 20 years, 1/6th of her life so far, on the surface and outside that influence, unlearning what she’s been taught.
Also Me: she’s mom friend :)

Iraelin Talar is not Iraelin Talar. She is Iraelin Vexidyre, scion of a great house of the Underdark, promised priestess to Lolth. She was born Mirrendeir, and transitioned in her twelfth year of life, changing her destiny forever from warrior and slavedriver to weapon of her god. She was sent away to study, learning the chants and prayers and customs of her order, offerings and sacrifices and omens. She did unspeakable things.
Then, one day, her final test came: take a person and make their suffering a song of glory to Lolth, to slake her endless hunger. But the teachers had seen her weakness, and knew that they must break her to fit her to their purpose; in the place of a man, they found a child, and bound them to the altar.
In the Underdark, treachery is common as quartz, and blood flows like water. Iraelin had cultivated a network among the servants of the school, who provided her with information in exchange for what protection and help she could offer. Talar was the servant who bound the child to the altar, and Talar was the servant who came to her that night, warning her of what awaited if she failed.
Talar was the servant who smuggled her out.
She could not be what the teachers had wanted, what her god had wanted.
Iraelin Vexidyre is not Iraelin Vexidyre. She is Iraelin Talar, servant of Eilistraee.

commissioning artists is good, but sometimes commissioning artists is extra good because they’ll draw something you hadn’t considered but is like 1,000% better than what you had imagined and you’re just like OH YEAH THAT RULES? THAT RULES.
