Actually…
… Now that I think about it, that would have made so much more sense.
Jack was involved in all of the Ghost incidents right up until the last one (and that was due to the actor wanting out), like 2x12 was literally about Mac and Jack’s past and relationship… Feels like it’d fit in to have Jack allegedly taken out by the Ghost’s final bomb would be very tragic and poetic, and a great parallel to Mac’s last father figure. Bc pain.

anyway i know that the ethel cain eps arent related to the story of preachers daughter but i like to think that casings tells the story of why willoughby tucker left. it was so simply and humanly tragic as ethel driving him away through sheer insecure adoration.

So I had this fic idea...
So suppose Hong Hae-in and Hon Cha-young know each other. Both successful and immaculately dressed queens with quirky personalities, besides, who can dislike our Cha-young. Maybe the Hongs used to take help from Cha-young, since she's a Hong too, when she was a lawyer at Wusang, before Hae-in married Hyun-woo.
And Hae-in told in the last ep that she'll bring a competent lawyer of her own... Now WE know that that lawyer was going to be 🤌Vincenzo Cassano🤌
But what if Hae-in wasn't talking about Vinny at all. What if she had meant Hong Cha-young instead. Because Wusang or not Hong Cha-young is still Hong Cha-young.
So NIS and Interpol lifted the arrest warrant on our Corn-Salad. And the first thing he did, obviously, is coming to meet his 💖byeonohsa-nim💖 and his ✨Geumga family✨
So Hae-in goes to Geumga plaza, to Jipuragi to employ their CEO as her legal representative.
Now, naturally, Vincenzo is also at Jipuragi. Because peak Chayenzo domesticity is them working on cases together.
Now Hong Cha-young has a lot on her plate, being the CEO of Jipuragi, but she still wants to help a friend in need. That's where Vinny comes into the picture.
He hears Hae-in's case and his first thought is that... He needs to teach her jerk of a husband a lesson on how a man should treat the woman he loves(he does know it best).
And he looks at Hong Cha-young and goes, "byeonohsa-nim, don't worry I'll handle it."
And Hong Cha-young looks smugly and proudly up at her man and nods her head, "ofcourse byeonohsa-nim. Go ahead."
Hae-in is sceptical of this lawyer she has never seen or even heard of before, even though he seems very charismatic. But Hong Cha-young assures her, "don't worry. He's got this. He's the best I know 😉"

Pulling out two of the most important pieces of info in this video:
The people who send scammy messages are frequently victims of human trafficking. This makes messing with them a lot less fun and honestly, probably not a good idea. I have messed with people texting me scammy bullshit in the past, I do not intend to again.
There are scams run through what appear to be extremely legitimate-looking crypto apps. They may be recommended by someone who has made themself an online friend. The apps may be difficult to see past, and may pass various fact-checking measures.
John Oliver often ends videos with some kind of "so, okay, what are we supposed to do with this information," and in this case he does point out that unless you're the head of Interpol, it's probably difficult to envision doing anything about massive instances of human trafficking. Quote I liked from the end of the video, to that end:
"This is one of those rare cases in which raising awareness, itself, is genuinely useful." Both to keep people from losing money, and to ideally manage to make running these scams a little less lucrative to the organized crime rings often found at the head of them.
Anyway tyyyyy I feel like pulling parts of the video out into text makes it seem like I think I'm adding much of anything but I'm not, I just figured like, it's a good way to maybe get more folks to watch the ep. Ok thats all!

clipping. - Face
https://www.discogs.com/release/11980126-Clipping-Face
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, we finally had a record show up! This is the 2018 vinyl reissue of the 2012 debut EP from beloved industrial rap trio Clipping (they stylize it as "clipping." but it fucks up my formatting mojo so I'm sticking to the capital C for this one). The A side is the original 3 track tape, and the B side is remixes and an acapella. This version was released by Deathbomb Arc, the same label that put out the original EP.
I was a little late to the Clipping party and got on board with them shortly after the release of their semi-self-titled debut album, CLPPNG. CLPPNG dropped right after Death Grips broke up and the hype surrounding Clipping on the internet was mostly /mu/ posters heralding them as The Next Death Grips. I always thought that comparison was questionable. Outside of a vague sense of being in the same genre they don't share a lot of DNA, with Clipping pulling heavily from harsh noise and power electronics in contrast to Death Grips' sample-heavy sound fueled by math rock-adjacent live drums. Regardless, the JENNY DEATH WHEN era hype train brought Clipping in front of a relatively big audience of outsider rap nerds looking for another hit of bizarre sounds, and they brought it in spades. After listening to CLPPNG an embarrassing number of times I worked my way back to midcity (their first mixtape) and Face. Face really stuck with me, so I was thrilled to see it reissued in 2018 and picked it up immediately.
The original EP is a short-but-sweet three song affair that wastes no space and takes no prisoners. The opening track, the eponymous Face, is a blistering assault of lighting fast bars, blasts of noise, and a catchy x-rated chorus. It's followed by Studio Freestyle 01, which serves as a sort of mental breather in the middle of the list (as much of one as Clipping will give you at least), with mid-tempo freestyle verses alternating call-and-response style with bursts of harsh noise. The EP rounds out with Block, my personal favorite track from the project. Block showcases Daveed Diggs' uncanny ability to make even the smallest things seem profound and significant. A song about nothing becomes a song about everything as he paints a picture of a city block on top of a slow-burning beat. There are no characters. There is no action and no narrative. And that's the beauty of it.
The B side is a collection of remixes backed with an acapella of the first track. I'm normally not a huge fan of remixes, but the selection here is a fun listen. The first two are remixes of the title track, with the first turning it into a stompy industrial club tune and the second chopping it into a wall of samples (including a shockingly straight-faced interpolation of Gangnam Style, and a slightly less straight-faced interlude of the intro to Never Gonna Give You Up). This is followed by Clipping's remix of This Song Is A Drug Deal, by LA noise rock drum-and-shout group Foot Village. It chops up the spastic drums from the original song and uses them as a bed for some verses from Daveed. The side closes out with the acapella of Face, not exactly critical listening but I'm glad it's out there for DJs and remix artists to take advantage of.
As previously mentioned, the copy in front of me is the 2018 Deathbomb Arc vinyl issue, the only vinyl issue to date. The 2012 original pressing was only on cassette, and this deluxe reissue was also available on cassette with an expanded tracklist containing additional Face remixes. I opted for the vinyl version because, frankly, I lived through tapes the first time around; they sucked then, they suck now, and part of me withers away every time I have to buy a new one. Regardless, the vinyl edition is simple but well-presented. The album art still looks good when blown up to 12"x12", and they did a nice job typesetting the back cover. It includes a download code for the download-inclined, and opts for a polybag rather than a paper inner (I breathe a sigh of relief every time I open a new record and don't need to immediately resleeve the LP, records are too damn expensive now for these labels to cheap out with the crappy paper inners that shed everywhere and scuff your new record up). The pressing is fairly shallow, but my copy plays well with little to no surface noise. The sound is a bit dull, but it's not exactly a hi-fi recording in the first place so I'm not going to complain. No inserts or liner notes on this one, but an EP doesn't really need all that anyways. Overall I think they've done a nice job with the reissue.
I think the beauty of Face is that it paints a fairly complete picture of Clipping in only 3 tracks. You have the high energy sonic assaults, you have the artsy contemplation, and you have the fearless harsh noise and power electronics interludes. While it's not their most essential work, if you want a short elevator pitch for why you should care about Clipping, this is it. A great start to a legendary career. Rest assured, if I keep doing this long enough we'll see plenty of other Clipping releases in the future, so strap in for some more noise rap greatness down the road. In the meantime, may your music stay pleasantly abrasive and may your preferred genitals be in your face.

anyway cliffnotes on my top 2023 albums late or whatever
lucky for you - bully. saw em live. lead singer was so hot she blew my mind. rock best genre to see live mayhaps. top song: "all i do"
10,000 gecs - 100 gecs. listened to this a couple times driving this particular stretch of i-15 into i-90. half-decent podcast episode on the album. top track: "frog on the floor"
everything is alive - slowdive. unexpectedly one of my favorite albums of the year. top track: "prayer remembered"
bonus singles
"autopoiética" - mon laferte. the feel of this song is just. impeccable. i wasn't super into the rest of the album but here's a nice interview with the artist.
"holidays in the sun" - mykki blanco. this is a tight little EP overall but this is my favorite track. i misheard the lyrics to this song when i first heard it as "home is the synth."
"goodness gracious" - baby gravy. bad taste whatever but also i love the lines "goodness gracious/Tito's got me beyond fucked up/it's ostentatious." endlessly funny to me.
"sepsis" - blondshell. i could recommend this whole album if i hadn't fucked up and waited too long to get my tickets to SEE HER and then the show was sold out. so many good one-liners here but i especially like "he wears a front-facing cap/the sex is almost always bad". thanks @normalgirlism for getting me hooked here.
"vampire empire" - big thief. whatever. i'm not immune.
"afraid of heights" - boygenius. lucy4eva.
"make my day" - coi leray (ft david guetta). yeah this is a interpolation of pump up the jam or whatever but i'm kind of obsessed with it i can't help it.
"i am the river" - lael neale. this entire album was recorded on cassette which imo really worked for this song and not for the rest of the work. this song is really one of my favorites of the year though.
"mbeda wella" - baaba maal (ft paco lenol). a great album by a master but i particularly liked this track.
"quarry" - wednesday. rat rock or whatever but this shit always does it for me. catchy in just the perfect dirtbag way.
"i dormenti i" - brian eno. randomly listened to this while running the other day and it wasn't an altogether awful experience. this has become my most recent migraine-music when i can handle music.
i also listened to every episode of all songs considered's new music friday this year, though i'm not sure that's an accomplishment. my dad says that show is only for old people who want to feel like they're cool. it's about the right level of keeping up with new releases for me and i don't usually go terribly far beyond it. that being said if u have any 2023 must-listens, send them my way!!

Ace Attorney 4, ep 3 spoilers
Tumblr media
While I'm not a big fan of Daryan Crescend (I mean, I'm neutral about him), I think he's interesting as a culprit. Initially, dude was involved in the whole thing with good intentions, but when his plan failed… He killed an Interpol officer and damaged a gift Klavier received to destroy the evidence. You literally can't say if he's "good" or "bad" (unlike in, for example, Kristoph's case, who just saw an opportunity and killed Shadi Smith). In one hand he wanted to deliver a forbidden medicine that could save someone's life, and in another he committed three crimes (including destroying someone's possession), but then again he had good intentions in the beginning.

franziska von karma
franzy my beloved!!!
first impression — you know i honestly don’t really remember, when i first got into ace attorney i was so ravenous for fan content that i’m pretty sure my first impression was from art and fic before i played aa2 i just took it for granted that i was gonna love her
impression now — i was right! i love her so so much. style queen bastard woman. when will she return from war (be in a new aa game)
favorite moment — here is where i risk something actually unpopular by outing myself as a fan of the anime 😭 but my honest first thought here was in the babymode anime ep where the von karmas are at the mall and baby fran goes “i wanna wait for miles!!” it’s just SO CUTE it killssssss meeeeee esp in contrast to what their grown up relationship is like. to see tiny fran talk about her “little brother” like that. the anime has a ton of problems but it has so many superb character moments and giving us little sib things like that that build on their canon relationship is just. so so great.
idea for a story — these asks are reminding me of how many abandoned aa wips i have… anyway i have this short little one of she and edgeworth at a cafe in berlin in the rain. nothing really happens it was kind of just an atmospheric character study of the two of them. i remember liking it 🥺
fav relationship — obviously she and edgeworth are the siblings of all time. there is never enough to say about that. but. i am such a huge huge huge fan of she and phoenix being worsties. everyone please send me your fran and phoenix worsties content. their investigation together during bridge to the turnabout is like my absolute favorite thing in the series. the mlm wlw hostility is so strong and it’s so funny how they’re both antagonistic to each other the whole time while still being clear that they don’t like. ACTUALLY resent each other at all and they both want to solve the case. and they both care about that miles edgeworth guy.
unpopular opinion — i’m sorry that my answer to this is always “i don’t care for their most popular ship” but that’s what i’ve got here too. not a big franmaya fan. i don’t have any specific objections to it and i’ve seen some really cute art i just don’t personally see it myself and in most fics they’re just there to pair the narumitsu spares. now fradrian on the other hand…
fav headcanon — i just love thinking of her as this big shot cool ass jetsetting interpol agent. she’s got pied-à-terres in so many countries. she flies trucy to milan for a shopping trip even tho trucy doesn’t even wanna buy anything she just hangs out with her cool aunt.
