Upper Hutt's First Internet Cafe (1999) (via teara.govt.nz)
From 1996 the internet became a more obvious presence in New Zealand life and within a few years many people were regularly accessing it. One sign of this was the spread of internet cafés, where people could send email and surf the web. Cyber Cafe was Upper Hutt's first internet café and opened in June 1999. Shown here on the morning it opened are Ron Hancox, Martin Durham (the manager), and Stephanie Bell.

I find this picture fascinating. When I was a teenager, I remember the days where computer shops / internet cafe used to be a popular local hang-out for many youth on our country back in 2000s. Many monitors with buldges behind, kids playing popular online games like "Counter Strike" (pictured above) and "Warcraft" Defense of the Ancients mod or DoTA, and many students flocking in the shops to type and print their works. The cost of using them per hour was less than a dollar so it was affordable for many kids who couldn't have PCs on their homes. There are also some kids shouting during their intense gaming or complaining whenever someone was watching videos on Youtube too much because it caused lag on online games. There are computer shops at these times but they're only few left due to many people using smartphones to surf online and play online video games there. 2000s was a fun decade on visiting computer shops.

Well it rains and it pours when you're out on your own/ if I crash on the couch can I sleep in my clothes / cause I spent the night in an internet cafe I'm done I suppose / if it looks like I'm laughing I'm really just so caffeinated I've transcended the boundaries of consciousness and society.
How I disappear is in under my end of term reports, some acquaintances on my social media may legitimately assume me dead by the end of this (I will return). So sorry but I'm crashing off the face of the earth harder than Masanobu Tsuji in the 1960s.
Realised I made this earlier in the week before I got extensions on some of my reports and it didn't upload, so not in chronological order but here you go I guess.

I Spent 3 Days in Japan's Cheap Public Living Space | Internet Cafe
Rather interesting video. The guy used booths in an internet cafe in Japan instead of getting a hotel room. You’re charged by the hour and it appears to have been cheaper. Keeping this in mind for my modern day/cyberpunk games in the future.
