[ID: Two panels from Dungeon Meshi. The first scows Senshi clutching his face as tears start to spill out of his eyes, saying, "I've always... always wanted to have this soup one more time." He's not wearing his helmet in this panel, so his face is unusually visible, detailed and vulnerable. The second panel shows himself as a youngster, surrounded by his old mining team, all smiling at each other, one of them rubbing Senshi's head. Modern-day Senshi continues, "Thank you. All of you. Thank you." End ID.]
Holy shit. I anticipated some tragic backstory from the "I must feed the young ones" panels, but what I'd guessed was that Senshi might have become so devoted to cooking and eating literally whatever because he'd previously survived a famine and had seen children starve to death. I did not expect him to have been the child who was the sole survivor of a doomed travel party, one of whom was determined to feed Senshi first because he was the youngest, and that Senshi has lived with the fear of having inadvertently committed cannibalism by eating stew that he'd never quite known the contents of. I'm happy for him that Laios deduced and confirmed for him that it was griffin meat, that he was able to taste the meal that saved his life once more and remember the friends he lost. Seriously, I'm crying, and also earnestly relieved that while his backstory is pretty dark, it's not the type of fucked up I'd been preparing myself mentally for.

I love the idea of Sith Obi-Wan being just as affable as Jedi Obi-Wan. He still banters with his opponents and his allies, he's still on a first name basis with everyone at the restaurants he frequents, he's still very well mannered, and animals still love him. You'd almost be able to forget he's a Sith, if not for the leonine eyes.
But occasionally he'll do something horrific, something measured and calculated to be as cruel as possible, but he'll still be ever so charming and polite. He might even reassure his victims that it's not personal, even if it's too perfectly tailored to what hurts them to be meant for anyone else.
And the thing is, it would be so easy to forget how dangerous he is, when he's so pleasant otherwise. He's nice right up until he's not, but by then it's too late to escape.

I think it’s because Robin was the first one and because he has no superpowers. (But then why not any of the arrowfam?)
People have also suggested it's bc of his popularity, how young he was when he first appeared and that whole Robins there to draw fire stuff but still it feels weird to me to just focus on Robin and batman in this conversation especially when I've seen people in the past really focus on how Bruce is such a bad dad bc he let's kids fight crime like okay but so does ollie, and even if kids do have powers it's still very dangerous so are we gonna talk about Clark, diana, wally, Barry and Arthur they've all let children / young teens fight crime are they worse people for it??

sometimes my mom will talk about her weight, which always lowkey sucks anyway, but she almost always does so by just saying numbers at me with a scandalized emphasis and I'm like. okay well I am four inches taller than you and Big Boned I have absolutely no fucking idea what those numbers actually mean

Lmao on that post where the person is like "europeans need to admit they can suck too without joking about children dying in america" a bunch of people are like "yeah maybe i suck sometimes but americans shoot each other so ha ha!"
I think they think OP is an American but they aren't. They're from south asia so like. People directly harmed by ALL of our countries fucking meddling. And they're essentially saying "if you guys can't take a joke without laughing about the death of children how tf are you gonna confront the actual problems in your country"
And the answer all these europeans gave was "we won't". Like I'm not surprised bc we are all white people here (not seen a single poc pull this shit) and we all know how fucking defensive we get when faced with a single ounce of not being treated like the Perfect Specialest Winners. Americans do this ra ra usa shit all the time too. But I think their is a higher number of white americans who like. Pay attention to the effects of colonialism bc we have to face more people affected by it in our day to day (in general) than a swede who only remembered Syria existed starting like 2014. There are studies that simply being around more people different than you can make it easier to relate to them, so no one's surprised when a white American from a small town filled w only white people is ignorant or racist.
The only thing here is that same white person from a similarly diverse area in Northern Europe points and titters at the white American like "oh ho ho racism! Look at what those stupid americans are doing!" As if there aren't Romani people living in their own country them actively being discriminated against and losing their rights. As if there is no anti black racism in their community when they have a little blackface parade with the local blackface character.
And if you call them on it they're like "ha ha children are dying in your country!"

Not gonna lie, I was thinking of you as I wrote about that. There’s just…a lot of shit wrapped up into culture that makes it so hard for anybody to assess. Your experience is quite a 1:1 on swedengate too, I feel like, on a very small scale. And like swedengate, I don’t think you or the teachers were able to (or even would have been able to) see into the purely cultural piece. None of the American teachers, despite being American, were able to explain the pledge of allegiance in that context, and all of them couldn’t help but like…basically take it personally. Which is the common outcome of culture clashes. Common outcome for anything we feel is contradicting or opposing our identity, really.
