About the Cover Songs Track List

Okay so it dropped while I was sleeping and then I randomly woke up at 5am a few hours after it had dropped and read through the tag, everyone's reactions and saw the list. And I was way too tired to unpack and post abt it so I slept on it. This morning I had a DC watch party with some friends and put it in the back of my mind, but now I've had a few hours to sit with it to collect my thoughts and I just wanted to put this out there as a way to amplify my voice and similar opinions made by other Desi fans as a Desi/Indian fans of the show and also kinda explain why I feel this way about the track list.

Let me preface this by saying I actually adore it on a whole. At first, I was surprised we haven't gotten more covers of songs made in the last two years - my personal wish for the cover track list was to cover ivy by Taylor Swift (from her evermore album) and enough for you by Olivia Rodrigo (yall its SUCH a Kate song for her insecurities)

But ultimately listening to them; I do get dark and angsty Kathony vibes so no complaints about the songs here. However, I do have to say while the K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) fits the vibes it does stick out like a sore thumb on the tracklist as being the only Indian song on it at the moment.

I also have just found out that this was only a partial track list dropped so I am hoping there will be more Desi songs and a personal fave Taylor Swift because there is a lot of TS songs that can be applied to Kathony imo.

But in case there are no other Indian songs in the tracklist when the full one comes out - I do have to comment on this tweet:

He clearly took every opportunity to weave TOO much of their heritage into this season because see: The Mess That Is The India Plot. Sometimes less is more Chris and now I feel like the track list is a half hearted attempt to weave in their music into the soundtrack if they are only using K3G. I'll curb my criticisms if they do have other Desi songs but I just wish they had looked into Kollywood/Tamil songs for the soundtrack because the Sharmas while their last name is North Indian and Punjabi, ethnically the actresses and by extension the characters are not! They are all Tamil women. That's my main comment on having K3G as the only Indian song on the tracklist at the moment. Of course, when the full soundtrack comes out, I'll happily eat my words if I'm wrong and we do get a good mix of English and Tamil/Hindi songs.

Also one last point, I do hope that Kris Bowers got help from Desi artists and composers for S2's original score because if they are really committed to showcasing the Sharma's Indian heritage, it should be reflected in the music because music is HUGE in our culture and it would just be nice to hear Indian influences in the S2 score. I dunno if it was even possible to happen but a wish of mine was for Kris to work with Siddhartha Khosla who does the score for the tv series This Is Us which is a pretty white show but even my mom loved his scores for the show because you can clearly tell he had roots with Indian classic music and it showed in his composition for This Is Us which was really cool! I really hope the hidden tracks are hopefully contributed by Desi artists because that would be a nice way to support us and our culture not just on screen but behind the scenes. (Because let's be real 3 make up artists and one writer being Indian on the whole team behind the camera is NOT it)

I noticed that my 5sos tags are hella wack and I'm the only person who understands them so here’s a post showing what means what:

frivolous sauces - self explanatory, 5 seconds of summer is the lengthier version of 5sos, which many Americans say sounds like 5 sauce. I can’t hear it because my accent doesn’t let that happen, however, it did birth frivolous sauces, simply via relation.

lone - superbloom is a solo project, solo is singular is alone is lone.

fashion - this one means Ashton because not only is he insanely fashionable but his name also sounds like it

miguel - I stole that from an interview the guys did where they were playing tennis (???) and Michael referred to himself as Miguel and I was like aight

lewk - Luke is a lewk. periodt.

caltex - yes this is an oil company. no I do not care. this one’s for Calum, mainly because I had never seen Calum spelt with only one ‘L’ and I was like “huh. Caltex is also spelt with only one ‘L’. they must be the same” so yeah.

soup - okay so i LOVE kaykay but hear me out,, her name is literally kay kay which is KK. like the letters of the alphabet. alphabet soup. now it was either this or white supremacy you guys.

skates - okay this is a long one so buckle up. crystal, is gems, is spirituality, is chakra, is chakla (the punjabi/hindi/urdu word for a rolling board), is rolling board, is roller skates, is skates. love you crystal have a great day.

chickpea powder - yet ANOTHER long one. aight so sierra sounds like tierra (I could have said tiara but whatever) sounds like tiers sounds like cake tiers. what cakes have the most tiers? wedding cakes. ‘but i’m indian, weddings have many stages!!’ you may hear my brain complain, well no worries because we can pick one of the coolest ceremonies, vatna (it’s about being clean and getting ready for the wedding). vatna’s main component is the vatna (obviously????)...an all natural body scrub mixture that mainly includes chickpea powder!! wow!! anyway the punjabi word for chickpeas is also the same word for balls lol. but the english way of saying chickpea actually sounds super cute so sierra deserves this.

teacher - roy english looks like the closeted lesbian english teacher i probably had a crush on when i was 8. you cannot change my mind.

charcuterie - moodboard=foodboard=charcuterie board=charcuterie

cleaning solution - gifs=some people pronounce it as jiff how dare you=an australian cleaning solution called jiff which smells delicious but it’s a cleaning solution so don’t eat it please.

pain :) - I love hands. hands have veins. i also love veins. vein sounds like pain (which is also in fact what hands and veins cause me). therefore, any hand/vein posts are tagged as pain :)

rumplestiltskin - reserved for the DIMPLES. majorly an ash tag but occasionally the others join. this one is dimple becomes rimple (a name, depending on who you’re talking to) becomes rumple becomes rumplestiltskin. also, much like rumplestiltskin the dimples terrorise me and ask for my first born child as collateral.

giuseppe - harry giuseppe, the italian harry potter, sounds like bicep!! therefore, bicep!

silence - alright buckle in buckaroo this is another long one! what do noses have? snot/mucus. but thats already a tag. what for, you may ask? for muke. now, it'd be hella annoying if I tagged nose posts with ‘muke’, so what’s an alternative? muke can be pronounced as moo-k as well, which in hindsight, I could have made the tag about cows but no. I decided to scrap moo-k and go for muke, which also subsequently sounds like mutuals, now it’d ALSO be hella annoying if I used that as a tag for noses. so? I call my mutuals cuties because cuties sounds like muties, but I cant use cuties because im already using that for my mutuals and general people I love! so? muties sounds like muted which is like quiet! the opposite of quiet? noise! a ruckus, even. and the more DIRECT opposite of noise? silence. I also think that its a cool contrast that my nose tag is a word pertaining to one of the OTHER senses. anyway.

twink - this is my eye tag (?) i don’t remember what my train of thought was here because i procrastinated adding it here and now i’ve forgotten but it exist, okay? i think it might have been eyes blink and blink rhymes with twink although i don’t remember so let’s just go with that

lippen- this one is my lip tag and is also the german translation for lips. i actually thought lip becomes blip becomes blimp which was in both world wars which were both blamed on germany and the german translation for lips is lippen

carlton draught - Calum, Ashton and Luke is caluton (?? i think i don’t remember the specifics that i thought of) anyway it sounds like carlton which i could have gone in the footie direction and named them the blues or then gone ahead and called them RNB for rhythm and blues, but instead i went in the alcohol direction because these three most definitely belong in a frat.

Traveling To India For Beginners

India is all, and more, all at one time. It is a visual explosion of bright saris, lumbering cows, marigolds, and bursts of sun.

A continuous cacophony of beeping horns, high-speed Hindi, and the cawing of thousands of crows. A melange of scents - of incense, spices and, ahem, more human scents.

And while Mother India, with her 1.2 billion inhabitants, can inspire, astonish and enlighten many who tread her land, her countless challenges and chaotic insanity may also conquer and exhaust unprepared first-timers.

After residing in Mumbai and traveling throughout India for seven weeks a year here are my essential survival tips to make sure you don't waste a second in your first-timers. Or even put them off completely.

THE BASICS A lifetime, if you have one to spare. Otherwise, a month would be ideal to take advantage of every place you visit. In a stretch, you might find a taste of India's magical in a couple of weeks.

Allocate two nights for every area you visit and, as always, the longer you stay in a city the more you will have the ability to cozy up to locals who will provide you their sexy insider tips.

I urge a rough itinerary surrounding accommodation and transportation, leaving room for inevitable Indian accidents and adventurous detours.

All of India simply can't be experienced in a couple of weeks, two weeks, or maybe two decades. For first-timers adhere to the north - the land of turbans, mustaches, palaces, and mountains - where you are certain to craft your very own Darjeeling Limited experience.

If you are concerned about the sensory overload you'll no doubt encounter, or if you prefer rather sit back and enjoy the ride, then get a guide. In terms of the language, Hindi is not spoken by everybody in India - in fact, there are over 20 languages spoken across the nation and English tends to serve as a common lingo.

HOW TO STAY WELL Do not even think about drinking tap water - even if it's filtered, nasties can get through and you just don't want to risk it. Stay away from the ice, eating fresh fruit juices and salads and road food, which can seem tempting but usually is not worth it.

Even when you're fit and healthy, you'd be a fool to go to India without comprehensive health insurance. Ensure that your vaccinations are up to date, pack a complete medical kit (include Probiotics and Travelan, equally great for healthy gut flora, and some general antibiotics as prescribed by your GP), and do require a truckload of hand sanitizer to keep those mitts fresh.

There is a superb oral medicine that helps prevent traveler's diarrhea named Dukoral, which you can catch from your doctor a couple of weeks prior to going. And consider gathering the numbers of English-speaking hospitals along your planned route, in addition to the speech of the Australian embassy.

HOW TO STAY SAFE The several assaults on women in India lately have been well publicized, but by taking a few precautions female travelers can definitely travel safely.

Women-only rooms or floors are available in a couple of big Indian resorts including the ITC collection of luxury resorts (hotels.in), and the Indian tourism ministry has called for this to be standard across hotel categories.

You will need to get ready to be stared at - more blankly than lecherously - but it is better to prevent curious gazes since returning them can be considered flirtatious.

Dress conservatively (loose ankle-length pants or skirts, tops that cover your shoulders and shawls), and avoid traveling during festivals when thick audiences can be utilized as a justification to get a pinch or a grab.
