So the Ninja Turtles came about in the 70s when comic books were getting big. These two guys were just doodling and then one of them came up with this:

After a couple weeks of redesigns for fun, they ended up with 4 brother turtles who each had different weapons

Originally, since it was all in black and white, you could only tell the difference between the turtles with the weapons and how they spoke. Raph was usally more angry, Leo was the leader, Donnie was the smart guy, and Mikey was the goober.

They created the comics and it was definitely more of a darker tone. But they were a huge success.

The original comic was a one off story because they didn't think it was going to sell. But it definitely did, and so many stores and people were asking "what's next???"

So they made more. They created villans and a story and made more comics.

Then in the 80s, there was an idea for toys, and a TV series. This was when they decided to get rid of the tails and make the tone more kid friendly and also give them colored masks.

They kept making money and the turtles were such a hit that they decided to make a live action movie. This came out in the 90s.

There were two more movies that came out after that.

Since then, there have been more movies and tv shows and comics. The most popular has been the 2012 CGI show, that lasted for I think 5 seasons. In 2014 and 16 there were two live action CGI movies made

The 80s show and the 90s movies were the Gen X turtles

The '12 show and the '14 movies were Millennials and older gen Z turtles.

The 2012 show was amazing and also really problematic in different ways. It did really well and is a staple in the TMNT set of media. The 2014 movies were not appreciated as much when they first came out, but now that gen Z is on the Internet they are much more well loved.

In 2018, Nickelodeon released Rise of the Teenage mutant ninja turtles.

Now this show was much different from any other TMNT reboot for a multitude of reasons.

Up until this point, the turtles have been the same species. Primarily just box turtles all green. All the turtles were the same age as well. They also had pretty much the same outfit with the exception of the 2014 movies. The origin story has all been pretty similar too. Splinter was similar in each one as well.

But Rise changed all of that. They changed all of it with the intention that this would be something completely new for an brand new generation. This was the first tmnt show that I really watched and got into as well.

In Rise, all the turtles were different species and ages. Raph (17) Alligator Snapping, Donnie (15) Soft Shell, Leo (15) Red Eared Slider, Mikey (14) Box shell.

Raph was the leader instead of Leo

They had magic weapons as well as used martial arts

Splinter was kinda a dead beat dad instead of a all knowing sensei. (Whiched changed later, yay character development)

All the turtles had different outfits.

And most of the villains changed, or didn't exist or new ones were created.

It was HATED for so long and tossed aside. By fandom standards it had a tiny following. All the adults hated it and wouldn't even give it a chance because it was so different.

It wasn't until the movie in 2022 that it began to gain a bigger following. Netflix had taken up the movie idea and released a 90ish minutes movie set in the future for these turtles.

They were all about 2 years older, and the idea was that you could watch the movie without having to see the show first. And the movie kicked ass. It was so good and one of the best animated things I've ever seen.

That is the most recent TMNT media movie and tv show rise. Comics are still being written by different companies. The most popular being IDW.

There was also a short movie with Batman and the TMNT that came out in 2019.

This movie isn't well known as much as the others, but it is absolutely hilarious.

And now we have the 2023, coming August 2nd TMNT mutant mayhem.

And this is the first one where the turtles are seen as younger teenagers and voiced by teenagers. True TMNT fans are very excited, and older TMNT fans are not happy with its existence. The animation style choice for one and also, because April is black.

Gotta say, I wasn't expecting a crash course on TMNT history, but this is actually pretty interesting, I really like seeing the development of shows and such. I believe I actually saw the 2014 movie, I was 8 and VERY scared of the only scene I remember, so I ended up turning on an Equestria Girls movie

I've actually been considering watching Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cause of how much I've been seeing about it on here. I actually really like the detail of them being different species, I think it's cool

Where or how did you learn to draw figures? Like how do you know where everything goes?

i did study animation at school for almost 4 years, did a lot of life drawing and i use a lot of references when im having trouble nailing down a pose or movement!! aside from just drawing a ton and using references i would say the single most useful thing for me in drawing humans was the anatomy and physiology class i took in high school. it wasnt an art class in any way but learning the skeletal and muscular systems and how they interact with each other really helps you understand how humans work and move

#im not gonna say my art is suuuper anatomically accurate but thtas becuase. i like things a little goofy a little cartoony. #anyways anatomy classes 10/10 #it also helped a ton with drawing animals! because comparative anatomy #although anatomy won't get you too far without practice #i love drawign horses theyre my favorite animal to draw but i had no idea how to draw horses before i drew lik e 80 of them in a day and #now i can draw horses forever #also anatomy classes are just very interesting like the cardiovascular system is cool as hell #ask #imconfusedallthetimehelp

I don't see your art often, but it's the colors and shapes you make with your characters. Sometimes the background too. I haven't been able to point and say "that's their art" but once I see the art and then see your url I'm like "oh yeah it's them!"

Currently watching: Ahsoka, of course! I have never simultaneously dreaded and eagerly anticipated any piece of media to the degree I've been losing it waiting for this show. I'm so invested, unwell, unhinged, I've waited so long for this story to continue and I've been so confident they would fuck it up. While I do have many fundamental misgivings and conflicting feelings about it, I am enjoying it a lot so far. It won't live up to my hopes and dreams by a long shot but its honestly much better than I feared it would be. So far.

Next on watchlist: ugh idk. Probably will just watch rebels AGAIN after Ahsoka. My watchlist is very long and nothing on it is currently catching my eye. But maybe I'll FINALLY watch the Owl House next.

Current obsession: still star wars rebels lol and it better stay that way bc I've started way too many long haul projects to switch hyperfixations any time soon. This show means so much to me and I've been leaning on it real hard the last couple years bc shit's been fucked. But we stay silly.

Its Sam. Sam is the asshole this time - THIS TIME. Bucky is the asshole who leaves like a teaspoon of juice or in the jug, which drives Sam absolutely insane.

In fact, Sam probably only does the cereal thing as retaliation for the juice thing.

The problem is, Bucky is the kind of chaotic batshit crazy that just pours the sad remnants of 6 different kinds of cereal into one bowl and eats the whole thing with a straight face like it wasn't a complete culinary abomination.

He had mostly kept this a secret back in the day, hiding one or two books in his rucksack, but never reading them where the other army guys could see. The Commandos never cared though, Dum Dum had teased him about it, but also had a copy of Jane Eyre that he traded Bucky for a pack of smokes.

He carried these books into the 21st century - not the books themselves, his old copies were lost to time, but his love of them was not.

He couldn't focus on them as well as he once had, his mind was far too prone to wandering these days, but sometimes, when Sam couldn't sleep and they're both lying on the couch at 2am, Bucky would pick up one of the books and read aloud until they both fell asleep.

I've been seeing stuff about Denik Sketchbooks, are they any good?

I personally really like them!! and something thats fun is that you can make your own custom covers if you want to (which I end up doing more often than I should tbh) I will say that depending on what you get the paper varies because you can either get a sketchbook (thicker paper) or a blank notebook (thinner paper than the sketchbook kinda like slightly thicker printer paper) I like both the paper types bcuz i usually just sketch in my sketchbooks w the occasional exploration of other materials. I recommend them personally, but it all kinda depends on what type of media you do in your sketchbooks! if u wanna talk more abt it i am down, i kinda am obsessed w different types of sketchbooks and trying to find the right one for a person.

This, is 2018 Rise April.

Out of all the April's she has the most character and charm and kickassery and comedy and oh my god she is the best.

She's absolutely amazing and my favorite April. She's a teenager like the turtles, I believe she was 17. She wasn't a reporter or had a crush on the turtles and none of the turtles had a crush on her and she wasn't annoying. She eventually in the movie was a vessel for the turtles grandmother....great grandmother? Something like that. Not a vessel in a bad way though, more like her soul needed a body so they just shared April's so the grandma helped April and April helped her.

Her name is Karai. She's honestly my favorite Karai too.

And now we have 2023 April.

Now if you were a true TMNT fan, you wouldn't have a problem with how she looks because she's looked different in every other show and movie and comic ever. But for some reason, they keep comparing her to Megan Fox. Because that's the only other tmnt thing they have seen. Which is stupid.

She looks amazing and she has a sense of humor and her whole design is different but in the best way and looks so cool. I can't wait to meet her.

And 2003 turtles. They gain pupils at some point. I've only seen a couple episodes of the 2003 version but I know it gets really good.

A lot of millennials like the 2003 version and watched it all on DVDs.

All in all, the people who hate the new April are absolutely stupid and most likely racist. If you wanna start watching TMNT let me know and I'll let you know which one you should start with to get you hooked :)

But if not, that's totally okay. I'll probably send you a giant thread about Donnie at some point cause he's my favorite.

Oh my god, I was raised Christian but Mormon is definitely different

How extreme was it on the spectrum? Did your family keep a years worth of food and gasoline buried in their yard?

Did you have to dress a specific way?

Did you ever go to dances?

mormonism is definitely more high demand than other christian denominations, but my family wasn’t too extreme about it, esp compared to some of the other mormon families i know. as i’ve talked to my parents about their spiritual beliefs i’ve found that they do find value in religion and having a community, so they go to church but don’t necessarily agree with everything the church does. i was however raised in a mostly mormon neighborhood and i went to church every sunday and went to the activities and the camps so i was pretty surrounded by it

mormonism does put an emphasis on being prepared for any disaster and my grandparents on my mom’s side take that very seriously- for a time they made sure we all had backpacks with three days’ worth of food, clothing, and other supplies that we kept in the garage and never got used. most mormons do have more extensive food storage than most other people, but nothing extreme.

the church does (or at least used to until very recently) have pretty strict standards of dress esp for women- bc once you get your endowment (go through the temple it’s a whole thing look it up, usually done before a mission or if not before marriage) you have to wear your “garments” (the magic underwear) at almost all times. the women’s garments are cap sleeved and come down to just above the knee, so women who have gotten their endowment dress in order to accommodate that unless they’re like working out or smthn. me and most the girls i know were never forced to wear knee length shorts or always cover our shoulders, there was a general disdain towards spaghetti straps, short shorts, and crop tops. fun fact i only started wearing crop tops this year lol. in recent years tho i have noticed most teenage mormon girls getting more lax with what they wear during the summer or to the pool.

one thing about mormon modesty standards i find kinda funny is no piercings or tattoos except women can get their ears pierced. the authorities of the church have said one per ear, so you can tell how committed someone is to the faith by whether or not they get doubles lol

i’m not quite sure what you’re asking by dances, i did go to school dances! and i def wore some dresses that are not 100% up to mormon modesty standards. i live in utah, and while my school was not super mormon by utah standards, other high schools w much larger mormon population had pretty fun dances from what i’ve heard. the church also hosted dances for the youth ages 14-18, but i never went to those, i’ve heard they’re similar to high school dances but not as fun
