HEY! as the second round of the mcytblr sexyman bracket settles in i wanted to take the time to thank everyone that turned out for #saintsweep in the first round. genuinely don’t know how any of this happened, but i was rly touched by the outpouring of support and positivity and enthusiasm from everyone who was willing to commit to the bit. (33%!!! 33!!!! A WHOLE THIRD!!!! 2206 PEOPLE!!!) 

i wanna thank specifically zloy and the bracket team for being good sports about the whole thing -- the nomination started as a joke, but it was from a place of genuine excitement and goodwill, and i’m glad we all got to have fun with it. sorry for not actually fitting the “yt” part of the mcyt sexyman tournament LOL. 

but, speaking of. i’d joked about making a minecraft video if i won when i first saw the nominations, but after everything that happened here in round one i’m probably gonna do it even tho i lost. i feel like i owe it to everyone who turned out and got really invested and also really confused about who this gay little tv was and why they couldn’t find him anywhere (SORRY ABOUT THAT).

greetings, esteemed one 👉👈 how do you feel about receiving fanart? do you want to be tagged in the post or just in a reply? do you have a special tag that you check for posted fanart? do you want to be send the post in a message or so? as a link in your asks? my brain has been exploding after reading MGMF and refuses to be normal about anything and of course i sketched like 17383626 silly little doodles of rourke&violet in increasingly dumb scenarios and i just wanna make sure i'm not overstepping anything anywhere. also while i'm already here, i really enjoyed the emotional depth and just the feelings you put into it! like obvs the smexy tension is through the roof and so so delicious but the small tidbits of violet fantasizing sfw about rourke and a debt-free life got to me, that was so incredibly touching and real and also that chapter of rourke going "YOU. where WERE u omg i missed u sm" is probs my fave bc of how close and intimiate they already are simply from having seen each other for weeks at that point, and also how... open and curious violet is and how non-bitter she is towards it all? like she could've gone full denial and torturing herself by not working on days rourke came in anymore but homegirl powered through and look at her now. with a big beautiful beefy boyfriend, in a beautiful new neighbourhood, with loving new friends. her crops watered, her skin clean, flourishing. what a dream. i love her and i love rourke and i love MGMF and i cannot wait for next month when i got paid and i can splurge on so many books of yours and read and read and read.

Howdy; hope your day's (or night's) been peachy. I saw you were giving art advice, so I was hoping you can answer my own question: can you learn to be as good as, say, yourself at art when you're broke? I'm talking "can't pay for a soda at a from a vending machine broke even if you're really damn thirsty because you've spent all your money on rent" broke. Art supplies, both digital and traditional, look so damn expensive. Can you learn to draw while broke, and do you have any budget art tips?

Your Art or craft isn’t about having expensive art supplies it’s about how you use it

I come from a very humble family so I was never able to get a lot of nice art supplies growing up but that didn’t stop me!

Simply drawing on a notebook is enough to make good art!

I recommend going to a local dollar store to get a sketch book and most of your art supplies

From my experience purchasing from bigger companies like Michaels was a waste of money

While you can get awesome pens and stuff from Michaels when I used the sketchbooks from there I was never able to draw in it because I didn’t wanna ruin expensive paper so I got dollar store sketchbooks!

Cheaper and I don’t feel limited to what I draw!

As for digital art it can be really simple! If you have a phone you can draw on there!

Fun fact if you look back at old drawings from before June 2021 all those drawings were made on my phone!!

I never had a laptop and a drawing tablet until last year for my bday

IbisPaint, FlipaClip (for animating), and sketchbook were all my apps I used!! Sketchbook was for just basic sketching/doodling and ibis paint was my main art app! All free apps too!

You can also make a drawing on paper and scan it in on your phone! From your notes app or a scanning app on the AppStore!

Some more Art tips I have:

If you have family members or friends that have paper or art supplies you can use ask them if u can borrow some

Reuse materials

How much do you think about their living spaces? Places like their home/room, work, etc?

I feel like I always have a clearer idea of what my OCs houses and rooms look like than what their faces look like LOL. I'm curious both abt what their living sitches might look like as well as like, ur own thinking/process!

okay sorry for the long wait but I waited until I could say yes because answering no to this would be soooo boring!

I love love love environmental storytelling!!!! I feel like it does tell a lot about the character, but also the world they live in! Rou and I actually develop most out AU stuff when he gets in a sims kick and wants to put all the small detail into living spaces and stuff

but for this, lemme show u some art examples(it's not much):

the Hearte Family's castle being cold stone with its windows tall and too thin to reassemble a birdcage. Outside the main halls, the windows are too small to fit yourself through in an emergency.

High class Arietian manors are grand and built to the scale of the male Aretieans, who are nearly a different scale to the females altogether, and the further you go back in history, the higher the difference.(for example, here, Mousse inherited an old chateau that was built for his father or even the father before that, who was noticeably bigger than his 'pathetic and shrimpy' sons. Although subtle, the decor and gold plating is bigger than he'd have it personally, he's just too depressed to bother changing anything. the curtains are hardly ever pulled open)

theee style is supposed to be a mixture of victorian and ancient greece, though I really need to draw bigger scenes to incorporate the latter more =<=;

(^an example of the kind of scaling issue they have in the royal castle. yes its meant to be demeaning, but also.. I mean it is practical)

Lower class Aretians, who tend to be a lottt of single mothers, tend to have houses more fit to their generally small scale :v< I should draw it sometime

Older manors will tend to have small maid passageways hidden in the wood paneling. They make great places to hide in wait and spy in, because most masters hardly keep track if they're even there nowadays

and lastly, which I doodled for this ask; here's Vanicho's maid's quarters! she shares it with another maid :v (havent decided whomst, maybe Sugar?) Vanicho's side is the far side with the desk

Master Bo can't really give his maids a palace for each of them ofc, but I think he's the type to make sure they're comfortable and have sturdy, if not a little nice furniture for their rooms.

2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

i think i could write everything by hand but i would be lots slower, i go back and change individual words or add sentences a lot and being able to move around a doc helps way more w that BUT that being said when i was younger i wrote everything by hand it is possible

since this is an audience of tad i’m choosing something you’ve read this is fromm flowers in the graveyard the therut orville oneshot u read last:

Therut’s writing is a little indelicate, so his corrections are doodled on instead. The kid fiddles with his thumbs while Orville’s eyes roam the map, and he swallows as his eyes land on the workshop.

There’s a X scratching it out, and, in any remaining space, Therut has drawn flowers.

“The workshop?” he asks, uncertainly.

“Gone,” he reports, eyes searching Orville’s face. He looks excited, but like he’s hesitant to show it given Orville’s not reacted at all. Still, he elaborates, “Um, it’s, like—like you can tell something used to be there because it’s a lot smaller than the other plots, but it’s farmland now. I asked, and the guy said they were growing flowers! You can’t see them yet, which kind of blows, but I guess it’s new growth? I don’t know what kind, he wasn’t sure.”

Flowers growing in the graveyard that is—was—the workshop. The place he was put together, where the last remnants of whoever he was before were left abandoned. He’d been so scared deep down he’d find a new make of a handy little hitman booting up between those four walls, dreading the idea of the new life that might be getting to its feet and marching loyally forward; a different kind of growth in its place, down to the dirt that surely came before that rotten little building, is such a relief he has no idea what to do with the information. It takes a second to even settle in his head and when it does, he finds himself laughing, long enough he’s out of breath and half-bent over.

Therut looks mortified. “You, uh—you good? You fucking losing it? Are we freaking out?”

He chuckles. “Flowers,” he breathes. “No, I’m—‘m good. Right as rain.”

SO this is nothing very subtle but we knew we wanted orville’s dad to not be here for a one and done final confrontation. me n gabri went back and forth with ideas for how orville gets resolution with his dad even after she decided we didn't wanna kill him in this. i knew i wanted therut involved bcos the whole story is about how their unique circumstances and similarities help them grow together and orville helps kill cane as well but i wasnt sure exactly how i wanted it to go.

i got very close to sending therut in to scout it out without asking but another one of the themes here is about how theyre able to communicate even in these circumstances where they have to read between the lines because one of them can’t articulate what they're thinking and feeling.

i almost also had both therut and orville agree to leave this stone unturned only to meet here at the ranch like spiderman pointing realizing they both wanted to be sure orvilles father wouldn’t be a problem down the line

but ultimately i think the most important thing to me was to communicate an idea that described orville and where hes at with his trauma in this au and that is pretty transparently the workshop.

i think the title which obviously is ripped from this passage lends itself to like a funeral vibe flowers in a graveyard okay people leaves flowers at graves but by the end here you come to understand it’s about new growth in the soil that was previously thought to be like dead and cursed especially by orville

like specifically in that with his amnesia and with how things go after he manipulated after not being able to remember before he kind of sees himself as like the end of whoever came before and like a walking corpse like a constant reminder he is in some ways less “alive” bcos he feels so empty and so like destined to be a killer bcos of how hes built and groomed

and then this understanding hes wrong about the workshop still standing like a monument and instead housing seeds that will bloom to be flowers is this huge like. you are capable of growth and we’re seeing now you make these decisions to foster that now making sure your father is gone to protect this new life you’re creating for yourself and your loved ones.

its not the most complicated symbolism ever but i enjoyed the challenge of being able to speak on orville’s growth and get him some form of closure without being allowed to kill his abuser B)

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

AUGH ghis is hard because i love getting into character mindsets . maybe my oc puffball it’s cool having such a stark difference between their internal monologue which is very self deprecating and admonishing and their outward dialogue with puts others down and like finding that middle ground between ego and insecurity in a character who juxtaposes themselves in a lot of ways . but i love writing any character that thinks differently than i do and drawing them to conclusions and actions i would never think of B)

I’ve been really wanting to try to doodle dnf because I care them so much and they make me so so happy but my brain rot is not strong enough and I’m nervous to post it if I do so basically do you have any advice for just doing it anyway? I don’t know if making a whole new blog is something I want to/should do

firstly, this is actually a more common occurrence than people think! i’ve told this story a few times now to artists who felt exactly the same: when i first posted, i deleted my doodles within a minute (LOL) and it was actually sky georgeliker who reached out asking if he could reblog !! (sorry i dont shut up abt this sky HAHAHA u meant a lot to me even unknowingly <3) i think from that moment, i thought, if just one other person enjoyed what i post, i want to!! there’s literally no harm if no one does anyway bc this is a brainrot blog not a portfolio LMAO. and i am so so glad i did because i then definitely met more than one person lol i even met u ;)) people are so so kind here, and it really changed my perception on both my own art and art as a whole

nonnie i’ve never seen your art but i know for sure i would love to see it, and everyone would too :) there’s no such thing as bad art, and even then sharing will help u improve so much faster!! u can talk to me any time about it too, we’ll learn to improve and be kinder to our art together :>

@ making a new blog: i heard it’s more strategic that way! but only if u want to !! for me personally i separate my dnf blog and my mcyt & general blogs just bc i just like being organized, and bc for dnf in particular, i know a fair amount of people are uncomfy seeing the ship so i try my damnedest not to let non-dnfers find this blog lol. but u really don’t have to do this :o just think about what personally makes u happiest!

anyway here are the more practical tips below the cut ‼️ (finally BAHAHA sorry non)

u can take smaller steps and send art to friends first or to discord servers :> (404cord vouch if u wanna find the most supportive mf’s in the planet)

or u can send me ;D

recognize when u start thinking the bad thoughts! point it out and say “i’m thinking bad thoughts, i have to stop. why should i make myself feel bad? why should i think at all?? this is a brainrot blog??” (is this good advice i am questioning myself shgswjsh this is what i do lmaooo)

point out the things u LIKE from ur art, even really little things. pretend it’s a friend’s work, u’ll be surprised how much kinder u are to others’ creations! if u enjoy parts of it, someone else would enjoy it too and more

don’t be discouraged if u don’t get a lot of recognition or notes immediately, most of that is irrelevant to how actually good ur art is. a LOT of my fave artists have like <200 notes every post (and thats a lot!! its just that i wanna give 10000 lol). it doesn’t mean that the people who DO see it don’t love it

tbh i avoid looking at numbers at all like the plague bc it gives unnecessary pressure !! i have no idea how many followers i have lol (but i do check the tags bc (1) ppl r so supportive i wanna cry and (2) ppl r v thoughtful and sometimes gives interesting input to ur art :> but if it pressures u then u should avoid this too imo)

talk to other artists!! :>

DISCLAIMER, it’s completely okay to take ur time!! there’s no real need to post at all if ur uncomfy. that said, last tip off the top of my head is to consider just slamming that post button, it’s free and u can always delete or edit LMAOO enjoy doodling and blogging!!
