I recall saying this before, but it bears repeating:
There could be a billion trans people in the world and it still wouldn't be a bad thing because being trans is not a bad thing. Even if the rate of people discovering they are trans is "disproportionate" to trends from decades ago, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a natural consequence for there being more trans people being able to stay alive, and, overall, being able to live in a slightly more tolerant world. You'd only see that as a bad thing if you actively didn't want trans people to either live or live a life that facilitates wellness.

everyone complains about their job. that doesn't mean everyone is anti-capitalist. similarly, every woman complains about men. that doesn't mean every woman is a feminist.

hi, sorry if this is rude to ask or anything, (and no pressure if you don’t have one or anything!) i was just wondering what ur posting schedule is for the steve joins hellfire au ?
Hi anon!
It’s not rude, because I know you aren’t asking in a demanding sort of way, so I hope you don’t think my answer is rude. It might sound a bit blunt.
I don’t have one. As a rule I am never going to have a posting schedule again. I’ve done a lot of thinking about my writing recently and what I hope to get out of it, and I realized that I was letting a lot of real life/societal pressure leak into my hobby.
Part of that is the way that fandoms seem to be leaning (looking for algorithms on ao3, expecting posting schedules, authors treating fanfic like they have this expectation for every single fic to be a star that everyone reads- including myself- or like it’s going to be the way they become “real” authors ) and part of that is me not checking myself and letting this hobby I love become another way I can harm myself by letting myself feel like I’m failing if I don’t post on time (Perfectionism!!)
It all just felt really capitalistic? I write because it makes me happy and because so much of my life doesn’t make me happy and this is one of the only things that’s really just mine that doesn’t feel stressful. If I start putting pressure on myself to adhere to posting schedules, try to meet deadlines, write at a certain pace to please other people and gain more notoriety….
Well that kind of just sounds like a job doesnt it?

ok my first thought upon seeing this was that it’s probably only a new novelization as a result of whatever copyright thing has always prevented Target from ever doing a reprint of the John Peel version, like some of the other novelizations that’ve gotten rewrites recently (I didn’t imagine that right? there were like one or two that were new or updated texts in their latest releases?) and I was already ready to make the joke that, since Frazer’s writing this one and (to my knowledge) he hasn’t written any novels or original fiction but has written an autobiography or two, what we’re about to get is really best thought of as Evil of the Daleks (Jamie’s Version)
BUT if you read the article that is not a joke at all & literally what’s going on here which is kinda really exciting! The premise is the retelling of Evil that takes place in between Wheel & Dominators and sounds like it’ll include some new material as well, and I for one can’t wait to see where this goes with that!

Ok, since Eda is most likely going to be an amputee how does this affect her carving palisman? I imagine that while she can carve palisman that she would need to take extra steps like have something hold the wood in place while she carves since she can’t hold it still with her other hand.
Is she right handed? If so, she’ll need to learn to use her left hand more. Are their prosthetics on the Boiling Isles? She’ll still have to learn how to use that arm before using it for any fine detail work.

as a fan of the US women since 2007 (and womens soccer as a whole since 2005), i am also (kind of) glad that were out. my feelings are pretty mixed on the matter but a lot of the fans dont fucking get it. this was always going to be the hardest world cup for us. the combination of the players that weve been relying on for the past decade either retiring or being out with injuries, and other countries finally putting money into their programs always meant that we weren't going to do as well as people would like to think. ik that the world cup is always fucking wild but germany got knocked out as well. that's huge and is what a lot of newer US fans are missing. no one's threepeated before, simply because it's fucking hard to be that dominant for that long. on a separate note, there's the fact that we go into every single group stage game of every single tournamentlooking like we've never met each other before, everyone's like "oh god we're not going to win", and then we usually pull out a win. but this time we didn't, and that's okay! it fucking sucks but it's okay! it sucks that men and conservatives are going to use this as a "see, they didnt deserve the money", but they don't matter. im excited for whatever chaos the rest of the tournament brings.
most rational uswnt fan i’ve ever heard. you’re bang in the money with pretty much all of this. i do agree people underestimated how much of an impact the player changes had. obviously some incompetence of vlatko’s behalf too and it’ll be interesting to see what happens to him afterwards
but yeah women’s football is getting better across the world and (hopefully) the more time passes, the more world cups like this we’ll have, because it means gaps are getting smaller and that is a positive….even if you are american
it does really suck that incels and republicans will use this as a “it’s what they deserve!” and look at the event in isolation, particularly when they literally don’t care about women, let alone women’s football

A general cane guide for writers and artists (from a cane user, writer, and artist!)
Disclaimer: Though I have been using a cane for 6 years, I am not a doctor, nor am I by any means an expert. This guide is true to my experience, but there are as many ways to use a cane as there are cane users!
This guide will not include: White canes for blindness, crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs as I have no personal experience with these.
This is meant to be a general guide to get you started and avoid some common mishaps/misconceptions in your writing, but you absolutely should continue to do your own research outside of this guide!
This is NOT a medical resource!!! And never tell a real person you think they're using a cane wrong!
Tumblr media
The biggest recurring problem I've seen is using the cane on the wrong side. The cane goes on the opposite side of the pain! If your character has even-sided pain or needs it for balance/weakness, then use the cane in the non-dominant hand to keep the dominant hand free. Some cane users also switch sides to give their arm a rest!
A cane takes about 20% of your weight off the opposite leg. It should fit within your natural gait and become something of an extension of your body. If you need more weight off than 20%, then crutches, a walker, or a wheelchair is needed.
Putting more pressure on the cane, using it on the wrong side, or having it at the wrong height can make it less effective, and can cause long term damage to your body from improper pressure and posture. (Hugh Laurie genuinely hurt his body from years of using a cane wrong on House!)
(some people elect to use a cane wrong for their personal situation despite this, everyone is different!)
Tumblr media
(an animated GIF of a cane matching the natural walking gait. It turns red when pressure is placed on it.)
When going up and down stairs, there is an ideal standard: You want to use the handrail and the cane at the same time, or prioritize the handrail if it's only on one side. When going up stairs you lead with your good leg and follow with the cane and hurt leg together. When going down stairs you lead with the cane and the bad leg and follow with the good leg!
Realistically though, many people don't move out of the way for cane users to access the railing, many stairs don't have railings, and many are wet, rusty, or generally not ideal to grip.
In these cases, if you have a friend nearby, holding on to them is a good idea. Or, take it one step at a time carefully if you're alone.
Now we come to a very common mistake I see... Using fashion canes for medical use!
Tumblr media
(These are 4 broad shapes, but there is INCREDIBLE variation in cane handles. Research heavily what will be best for your character's specific needs!)
The handle is the contact point for all the weight you're putting on your cane, and that pressure is being put onto your hand, wrist, and shoulder. So the shape is very important for long term use!
Knob handles (and very decorative handles) are not used for medical use for this reason. It adds extra stress to the body and can damage your hand to put constant pressure onto these painful shapes.
The weight of a cane is also incredibly important, as a heavier cane will cause wear on your body much faster. When you're using it all day, it gets heavy fast! If your character struggles with weakness, then they won't want a heavy cane if they can help it!
This is also part of why sword canes aren't usually very viable for medical use (along with them usually being knob handles) is that swords are extra weight!
However, a small knife or perhaps a retractable blade hidden within the base might be viable even for weak characters.
Tumblr media
Bases have a lot of variability as well, and the modern standard is generally adjustable bases. Adjustable canes are very handy if your character regularly changes shoe height, for instance (gotta keep the height at your hip!)
Canes help on most terrain with their standard base and structure. But for some terrain, you might want a different base, or to forego the cane entirely! This article covers it pretty well.
Many cane users decorate their canes! Stickers are incredibly common, and painting canes is relatively common as well! You'll also see people replacing the standard wrist strap with a personalized one, or even adding a small charm to the ring the strap connects to. (nothing too large, or it gets annoying as the cane is swinging around everywhere)
Tumblr media
(my canes, for reference)
If your character uses a cane full time, then they might also have multiple canes that look different aesthetically to match their outfits!
When it comes to practical things outside of the cane, you reasonably only have one hand available while it's being used. Many people will hook their cane onto their arm or let it dangle on the strap (if they have one) while using their cane arm, but it's often significantly less convenient than 2 hands. But, if you need 2 hands, then it's either setting the cane down or letting it hang!
For this reason, optimizing one handed use is ideal! Keeping bags/items on the side of your free hand helps keep your items accessible.
Tumblr media
When sitting, the cane either leans against a wall or table, goes under the chair, or hooks onto the back of the chair. (It often falls when hanging off of a chair, in my experience)
When getting up, the user will either use their cane to help them balance/support as they stand, or get up and then grab their cane. This depends on what it's being used for (balance vs pain when walking, for instance!)
That's everything I can think of for now. Thank you for reading my long-but-absolutely-not-comprehensive list of things to keep in mind when writing or drawing a cane user!
Happy disability pride month! Go forth and make more characters use canes!!!

I've defended country my whole life saying shit like florida georgia line and other frat boy country aligned garbage was a mainstream pit stop in an otherwise massively influential genre with great stuff (true) but now that pop is trying to jump on country's dick because they mistook politically vindictive hikes in track sales on itunes for actual trend forecasting I don't feel it needs any defense lol you can call it a tar pit if you want I don't agree but it's spent all it's good will
