One of my least favourite Tsumugi misconceptions is that he's useless at being an idol. He's very good actually! It's pointed out multiple times in various stories by characters who are considered the top tier idols that Tsumugi is very good at his job, he's just also awkward and a bit clumsy off stage.
yea ! alot of misconceptions tend to stem from people getting a taste of the character in a certain context and then assume theyd be the same in different contexts when thats rarely the case. like just look at tsumugis romancing cruise performance That shit changed me forever
i do understand why this happens though, or why small misconceptions are rather frequent and inadvertently lead to mischaracterizations at times. often times we just take a surface level view at things and, naturally, observe what it is we see and compare it to things we already know. like i said in my last post tsumugi is bashful, not shy, but if people only see his more awkward demeanor around certain people theyre obviously going to assume thats the characteristic he has because thats what most of us are familiar with
i dont want people to feel insecure in their portrayals though !! q__q and youre free to be as self-indulgent as you want when u create ur little crafts as im sure many of us are using these characters as a means of our own self-expression. god knows i do it! but is it also not just as fun to truly dig into the character and to try figuring them out from an unbiased perspective ? again its why i dont want to put them into boxes!!! theres so much to them and by only focusing on one or two of their characteristics you are doing them a disservice!! youre free to exclusively PORTRAY your favorite aspects ofc, create for you and not for others! but i just want their complexities to be acknowledged and recognized 💔💔 though thats just one of my selfish little desires

Haven’t even finished the series but here’s my first official ATLA headcanon: when the state of world has reached modern times, like another seventy-hundred years after TLOK, there is a widely critically-acclaimed musical theater production known as “Aang: The Last Airbender” a historical drama retelling of the journeys of the Avatar and companions that ended the Hundred Year War. Idk I just really love the idea of people in the far future retelling this absolutely surreal part of history with the same themes of “the world turned upside down” “history has its eyes on (us)” “the narrative/the story they will write some day”and “who live who dies who tells your story”

The Gang’s Jail Sentences
I should preface this with my favourite lovely warning: I AM NOT A BOARD CERTIFIED ATTORNEY OF LAW. I do NOT have a degree in this. I have done research, yes, and come up with somewhat of a defense and timeline but still, I AM NOT A LAWYER. I’m just a hyperfixated idiot. Enjoy!
----------------------
During the events of Sing One we see Johnny’s family/the Gang commit several crimes. However, they are only caught after one failed heist. So, I will be calculating the charges they faced as well as providing possible defenses and my version of sentencing. Everyone ready for a ton of legal mumbo jumbo? Great! Let’s dive in.
Ps. I’m so sorry for the delay y’all, I know I promised this a long time ago but I really wanted to do it right. I hope y’all enjoy!
----------------------
Definitions:
I wasn’t kidding when I said their would be actual legal vocabulary here so let’s go over what it all means.
Wobbler: a special class of crimes involving conduct that varies widely in its level of seriousness.
Misdemeanor: a non-indictable offense, regarded in the US (and formerly in the UK) as less serious than a felony.
Felony: a crime, typically one involving violence, regarded as more serious than a misdemeanor, and usually punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death.
Parole: the release of a prisoner temporarily (for a special purpose) or permanently before the completion of a sentence, on the promise of good behavior.
County Jail: a facility operated by or for a county for the confinement of persons accused or convicted of an offense.
Sate Prison: is for inmates serving lengthier sentences on crimes that are more severe in nature.
Sentencing: declare the punishment decided for an offender.
----------------------
Crimes and Their Sentences:
Grand Theft Larceny - Wobbler (anywhere from less than a year in County Jail to 3 years in State Prison)
Wearing a Mask - Misdemeanor (up to 6 months in County Jail and a $1,000.00 fine)
Gang Involvement - Wobbler (anywhere from less than a year in County Jail to 3 years in State Prison)
Marcus Exclusively:
Escape from Custody - Wobbler (anywhere from less than a year in County Jail to 3 years in State Prison with no parole)
----------------------
Maximum Sentencing vs. My Sentencing:
Max: 6 months in County Jail, $1000.00 each, 6 years in State Prison (plus 3 years in State Prison and no chance of parole for anything for Marcus).
My Sentencing: 7.5 months in County Jail, $1000.00 each, 2 years of formal parole, 400 hours of community service for Stan and Barry, and 490 hours of community service for Marcus. All of them also were ordered into court mandated counseling/therapy due to the results found by the court appointed psychologist for the enterity of their incarceration and parole.
----------------------
Explanation and Defenses Used:
Now, you all might notice that my sentencing was much, much, much lighter than the maximum sentence. However, that is because I believe they were not prosecuted for some of the potential charges and they also were allowed parole in change of some of their sentence.
Firstly, I do not think they would be prosecuted for Gang Involvement, mainly due to they barely qualifying as a gang by California State Law. By their definition, a gang is:
“a criminal street gang is any ongoing organization, association, or group of three or more persons, whether formal or informal: 1. That has a common name or common identifying sign or symbol; 2. That has, as one or more of its primary activities, the commission of [a crime listed in Pen. Code §186.22(e)(1)-(25), (31)-(33)]; AND, 3. Whose members, whether acting alone or together, engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal gang activity.””.
Now why wouldn’t they be prosecuted for this? We see them fitting those descriptions after all. And while we saw those defining actions, the prosecutors definitely didn’t.
We see how criminally smart the gang actually is multiple times in the movie. For one, we never see them try to physically confront anyone that tried to stop them, they just ran. That allows them to avoid all the potential aggravated assault on peace officers charges.
Secondly, when they are captured, they immediately surrendered, no fighting, no running, they immediately surrendered. This allows them to escape literally all evading the police charges as well as them instantly being marked as cooperative, which is extremely useful in their case.
Third, they seem to move fast. In the first heist we see them pull off, the alarm does not start ringing until they break the window. Now, why would that mean they move fast? Banks and jewelry stores both have something called silent alarms that can be subtly triggered by staff in case of a robbery. Judging by the obliviousness of the nearby officers, that alarm was not triggered. Meaning, no one knew that the gang was there until they were escaping. In fact, it’s hinted that the main heist we see is the longest one yet. Judging by how down to the second everything is planned, they were a bit more nervous about this heist than the other ones. And most of that time is traveling discretely so they aren’t caught. Not only do they see to move fast, they seem to be non-violent offenders.
Finally, the fact that there were only three of them (they clearly covered for Johnny, he wasn’t even shown to be questioned so they definitely denied his involvement) and they view each other like brothers, they definitely denied being a gang and instead identified themselves as brothers who committed a crime together. Also, Johnny wasn’t recognized by the Bear Gang (to be fair they were busy, but still) and you would think he would if have been if he was viewed by other gangs as the son of a rival gang leader. Therefore, I believe their actually identity as a gang was not that solid and they weren’t seen as one in a court of law. And that lightened their sentence considerably.
In the case of the other crimes, I think that Marcus’s escape and the Grand Theft Larceny were both demoted to misdemeanors. Why? Because in the eyes of the court, they are first time offenders. From what we can tell, they were not linked back to their previous crimes, and therefore I will not be calculating that into my sentencing. Sentences for first time offenders (in some cases) are considerably lighter and I think that was part of the case here.
The rest of the case here is public opinion. Your court sentence is largely based on what the judge deems appropriate. And public opinion can definitely influence that by swaying the judge’s view on the case. The thing is, the public of Calatonia would definitely be on the gang’s side. Why? Because Johnny, that’s why.
Johnny would have just appeared on tv as a performer at New Moon Theatre and as we saw, he drew in a bit of a crowd during his performance during the ending scene. Those fans would definitely want Johnny to be reunited with his dad sooner and could petition the court for a lighter sentence. Not only would his fans potentially influence the sentencing, but Johnny’s mere existence would too.
From what we can tell, Marcus is a single parent. And while Stan and Barry might lend a hand here and there with helping him with Johnny, Marcus is clearly doing majority of the parenting work. Whether his other parent is dead or just divorced, it’s clear that Johnny doesn’t see living with them as an option (he chose to stay in the garage alone). Why is this important? Because Johnny’s primary caregiver (Marcus) and his two other caregivers who he’d probably be sent to in an emergency (Stan and Barry) are now all incarcerated. That means that Johnny (he is implied to be around 17 in Sing 1 so that’s what I’m going with) would be sent to foster care. And if Johnny had happened to recently gone through a traumatic event, like for instance, just throwing it out there, being trapped in a flooding building, or having all of his family be sent to jail, he would more than likely be evaluated by a psychologist to see what the potential effects of sentencing could have on him.
I don’t think it would surprise anyone if I said that I believe that the psychologist would more than likely decide that Johnny would be negatively affected mentally and emotionally if he was kept from his family the full maximum sentence. What kid wouldn’t be? That, along with the gang being non-violent, first time offenders who had (in the court’s eye) been just every day citizens til then, they would have more than likely been given lighter sentences that would have resulted in their release a few weeks before the events of Sing 2, around only a year later.

WHAT COLOUR DOES YOUR LOVE FEEL LIKE?
Tumblr media
deep, staining red
Ripped out confessions, warm velvety whispers and a heart like an open wound. Your love flows out like dripping blood, beautiful, flawed and twisted. It's gut wrenching, the type of painfully dramatic feeling that makes you clutch your chest, picturing dramatic monologues about love and loving and big screen over the top scenes of sobbing into your pillow until you fall asleep. It rips out of you, clawing it's way up your throat more so than tumbling out. Sticky words that just need to be let out, feelings so big they don't fit inside you. Your love isn't easy, it's a true bloody mess, dripping and staining everything it touches in a desperate attempt to be seen, to be felt, to be loved back. And you, you love so hard, so deeply, so much for someone who carries all that pain. Atlas holding up the world, how are you? Is your love still flowing? Is your heart still open? Still pumping and bleeding and dripping with blood and tears? Still painting your beautiful pictures and writing your love letters in deeply personal red ink? Because I see them, I read them, I love them and you, you, you, you. Clench your chest, scream your love, cry it out. Spill your words of loving, keep your heart beating, keep your love coming and paint the entire world red with it. Make it in your image, keep going, it's okay. Maybe one day the whole world can be red and loved and beautiful just like you.
Tumblr media
dark stormy blue
Sinking ships, raging seas and tumultuous hearts, love isn't easy for you. It's a struggle, a constant inner fight of should I? Can I? Do I? Feelings are hard and they rumble inside you in a dissatisfied mess that begs to be let out. Your heart screams and cries inside you and you... You can't, you won't. You're scared. And love is scary, it's hard and sometimes it just doesn't work out. People leave, people hurt, people change their minds. And you and your cold stormy heart yearn for the calmness, for the distance, to be allowed and able to simply not feel. And yet, you do. It rages, it fights and storms inside you and you try to keep it down, keep it quiet, to feel pretending not to. It's the burn of childhood friends growing apart, of parents that aren't quite there, of relationships that burn out. So you snuff it down with water, cold and calming and blue, blue, blue. But being loved by you is blue too, just not in that way. It's the soothing, embracing feeling of floating, the moment when you sink down bellow the waves and become one with the water, with everything. It's the balance, the dramatic yet calming sound of waves that crash against a rocky shore. You're the good and the bad, the violence of the storm and the watery peace right after. You're the blue, blue feeling and loving you is watery tears, yelled confessions that no one will hear and burying your feelings in a deep watery grave never to be found out about. Your love is dark stormy blue, it's vast and deep and all encompassing, it's safety in the surface of danger, it's trusting the unruly abyss and yet I'd gladly risk drowning just to feel what it's like being loved by you.
i stole this from my old blog when i did chrollo’s, so feel free to take it!
Chrollo’s under the cut bc, well i did his before.
Tumblr media
cold stark gold
Fireworks, borrowed lighters and sparklers against a dark backdrop, yours is a love that burns stark and bright. It's scary though, like things that burn always tend to be, but for you it isn't the thrill of the open flames that gives pause and a slight stomach drop of terror, but rather the time when the flames go out, the sparkler ends and the night is cold and dark once again. Fireworks, borrowed lighters, a striken match, your love burns bright and fast and then maybe it passes, maybe the feeling dies out and you're left in the cold once again. And that's the feeling isn't it? Of being bored and waiting for someone to light you up again? To be fair, you do know you don't need it, but then again we don't often crave the things we need. And you crave and yearn and burn in the wait, restless in the knowledge that at some point someone will pass and rub you the right way, that some day you'll light up the night sky bright yet again. There's comfort in the darkness and solace in the predictable loneliness of the in between, but your heart still squirms inside you, waiting and willing and begging to burn up again. Your love might not be comfort, it's not one for the sick days, but then again, there's a reason why everyone waits for the shining lights in the sky during holidays.

if you're still doing the wonderful micro prompts, 15 with Vincent and Lovely?
15: trembling hands
hi anon!!! thank you for your prompt. it's actually you who is wonderful, did you know?
please have a postscript for vincent's ba 😳 and i do mean pretty immediately post, so please consider this ao3 m-rated. no ~activities~ are done or described, only implied, but like. we know what they did.
💜
"You're beautiful," Vincent murmurs, not for the first time. He's propped up on one elbow next to them now, looking at them from under his (stupidly long) eyelashes. They spare a moment to feel faint irritation at how it barely even looks like he exerted himself while they're -- well. Kind of a mess, even still.
It seems like he likes that, though. They can feel his eyes on them, very nearly reverent, and for once, here in the afterglow, when he compliments them they believe it. In response, they send him a lazy grin. Talking sounds like too much work.
His gaze lingers, for a long time, at their neck. The spot doesn't hurt. None of his bites had past the first second, not even the one in the park, but the marks feel a little tender. Oversensitive, even more so than the rest of them. They imagine that if he were to touch the spot now, it would resonate down their entire body in half-remembered echoes of the night.
Vincent keeps looking, seemingly content to be quiet for once, and they let their eyes slip closed. One of his hands is just barely brushing the skin of their wrist, and they can hear his breathing. That feeling from the bite, that buzzing in every part of their body, is slowly ebbing away. It's a gentle comedown, but a comedown nonetheless.
"Okay, Vincent," they hear him whisper after only a little longer. "Focus." Louder, he says, "I need to get you something, lovely. I'll be right back."
They don't even get out the beginnings of a "Wh--" before the air is rushing around them in that sound they've come to associate with Vincent doing vamp stuff. It's barely seconds later when he returns, and they pry their eyes open to see him holding a full glass of juice in one hand and a crinkling pack of snack cookies in the other. "Sit up for me?"
The thought brings forth a completely involuntary groan. They never want to move again.
"Lovely," he says with a sigh, setting the glass on the nightstand and sitting at the edge of the bed. "You have to drink. You lost a lot of fluids tonight."
They snicker a little. A few different kinds, yeah.
Vincent aims them an exasperated look, but they can see the curve of a smile in it. He can't resist them after all. "I'm serious," he says. "Sit up for me? I'll help you."
"I c'n do it," they tell him, and try. The moment they're close to being upright, their head protests by wobbling the world some, and Vincent is immediately at their side, a hand on their arm. "I'm good," they say, swatting at him completely ineffectively.
"Your hands are trembling," he says, voice going a bit flatter, and they look down and oh, they are, a nearly imperceptible little tremor. "Are you -- we overdid it, didn't we. Are you okay?"
"Think that's… um, adrenaline," they manage, blinking the momentary dizziness away. He's starting to look outright crestfallen, that self-deprecating expression from before all this back, and that's not allowed. "Give me the cup."
He does, slipping further onto the bed so he's next to them, their sides pressing together. They hold the juice in both hands, carefully watching the surface of the liquid. It shakes, a little, but only barely, and they raise the cup to their lips and take a drink. It's cold, and they very nearly spill from shivering as it goes down, but it shocks their brain into gear. Sugary stuff. They remember donating blood once, sitting in the waiting room for snacks.
Vincent, ever-attentive, immediately tucks the long-ago-discarded blanket over their bare shoulders. "Okay?" he asks again, voice still something close to vulnerable and eyes worried. "I'm sorry, I should have--"
Gathering their faculties, they shoot him a look over the rim of the cup. "Hush. I'm just fine. Everybody has to do aftercare, you're not special."
Taken aback, he snorts. It's a completely unsexy noise and they cherish it from him. "I'm not?" he asks, a hint of his usual tone returned. They're sure he'll still hover until they've finished everything he brought, but it's a start.
"Not at all," they say, leaning (carefully, to avoid upsetting the cup) into his side both to soften the blow and hide their face as they add, "You'll just have to content yourself with being loved."

ive been calling myself agnostic for years but i dont think that rlly makes sense. sure i dont think god can be proven or disproven but i dont think the existence of *any* undetectable thing can be proven or disproven and i am content to believe that means they almost certainly don't exist. and i dont give myself a special name for that. i guess it does make sense to have that label specifically in the context of god because beliefs about that have shaped the world and everyone's supposed to have an opinion.
i think it makes more sense for me to call myself an aetheist but i dont want to bc i just associate that w annoying people lmao and it feels sooo. distinctly un-jewish to me. perhaps even anti-jewish. (no hate to jewish aetheists that's just how i wld feel referring to myself that way.) so idk. agnostic aetheist works well i guess. i jst .. hate these false dichtomies .. yes im a religious jew no i dont believe in god yes that's a choice i made not something i think is certainly true. goodnight

Ridley Scott, regarding his new Napoleon movie, is being aggressively defensive about its inaccuracies with historians. He's gone on record saying "When I have issues with historians, I ask: ‘Excuse me, mate, were you there? No? Well, shut the fuck up then.’" This is a classic argument of people with no idea how historians do their work, how historical accuracy is determined and evaluated, and - in Ridley Scott's case in particular - how important it is to properly portray historical accuracy in other media.
The reason why Ridley Scott is being so aggressively dismissive of complaints about historical accuracy is due to past beef leading to a problem he likely has.
This is a movie that, by din of being touted as a 'nonfiction' movie about a historical figure, is basing much of its marketing on historical accuracy by default. The trailers show it's not, and reviews by historians say it is riddled with dozens if not hundreds of inaccuracies. Napoleon's portrayal is frankly a surface level depiction and nowhere near the nuance that historians were hoping for.
Scott's defensive about it. He need not be. If he had a historical consultant then he could go "I'm not an expert on the time period, but I have someone who is, ask them about it" and fob them off on his movie's historical consultant. It's a whole Thing. He doesn't have one, however, so he has to defend it personally.
You see, Ridley Scott probably didn't hire a historical consultant for Napoleon. The last time he had one - Kathleen Coleman for Gladiator - she was so upset over the inaccuracies he pushed through and how little her work affected the film, she requested her name be taken off of it.
Why this is important is because so many more people will watch a movie made by Ridley Scott than I or any other person could write. More people will watch Scott's Napoleon in the States than five hundred books about Napoleon combined worldwide.
More people watched Dunkirk than ever read a book about the Evacuation of Dunkirk. The movie Breaker Morant did so much for public perception about the execution of a genuine war criminal people in Australia still on occasion call for a pardon for Morant.
Fundamentally, mass media like movies will always have more impact of a popular perception about somebody, a time period, an event. That's why Ridley Scott making an inaccurate movie and going 'oh, you weren't there, you didn't see it with your own eyes, so how could you know, I don't have to listen to you' is a problem.
