Why is Mike so dumb? (Not really)
The layered internal conflicts of the characters in Stranger Things are truly admirable. And the fact that people refuse to see that behind the words of the characters may be hiding something completely different from what they mean, only confirms this: people love to deceive, and first of all themselves.
"Friends don't lie" has become more than just the Party's naïve motto as they've grown older, it's become the keynote that, after coming full circle, like so much else on the show, it's back to full circle by Season 5. The Duffer brothers have made the lines of the show's key characters incredibly deep and complex, and what's happening right now between El, Will and Mike is one of the most complex and truly horrifying tragedies of our entire existence.
It always seemed very strange to me how a large number of people cling to Mileven and do not see anything else around. At the same time, I do not feel hatred or rejection towards lovers of the Mike / Eleven couple. But let's be objective: how many couples do you know who have stayed with each other for life, becoming each other's first? I'm not talking about the couples from the series that ended up getting this far, let's talk about reality. Children's first love is something truly pure, tender, almost holy. I was also in love with my 11-12 years old, and when now, at 31, I remember this, I remember only warmth and bright feelings. I remember this boy's name, but I don't even remember his face.
At the same time, the Duffer brothers in an interview frankly told us several key things: they do not believe in love at first sight, they do not consider the relationship between Mike and Eleven to be something serious, they describe this relationship as “Mike found a puppy in the forest and wanted to take care of him". Plus, and I think it's a big deal, when Eleven was first seen, Party had her hair cut so short that other people thought she was a boy -- at 11 years old, boys and girls aren't that different yet. At the same time, I always liked the ease and acceptance with which Mike spoke about El in any of its forms: he really didn't care if she looked like a girl or a boy, he finds her "pretty" in any form. And I think this is also important.
I was a fan of Mileven myself until the end of Season 2. I cried and was touched by the way Mike and El kissed at the Snow Ball. But during Season 3, I began to understand that something was clearly wrong going on between them. And Mike is really starting to act weird. At this time, they are 14 years old, more conscious sexuality begins to wake up. Hormones are raging and all that stuff. And at these moments, I begin to notice in Mike that he is not really want to take next base in relationships with El. Don't you remember yourself at 14? I remember myself very clear. We hung out in groups, and when the boys paid attention to us, we wanted to be as tactile with them as possible. But Mike is limited to very modest hand touches. This is his maximum, while El hugs him, reaches for him, while kissing wants to touch his face and hair. This is weird. I do not take into account Mike's lies in all of this, but for some reason one very important thing comes to my mind: at 11 years old, Mike did not listen to Hopper and went to look for Will with the Party on his own, at 12 years old, Mike, angry, attacked Hopper with his fists. And then suddenly he was horrified by Hopper when he scared Mike a little? Last year a boy literally saw a possessed friend and dead people, for God sake! At the same time, the boy probably understood that Jim would not do anything to him, would not harm him at all. So why did he start to avoid El and come up with all sorts of nonsense? Was he just looking for a reason? And the words of Jim to Joyce are also important: "they kiss all the time." That is, apart from kisses, a couple of Mike and El are not interested in anything else and do not have a connect without any "End of the World" danger? That's really sad.
"Mike tries to be normal as hard as he can" is practically a Finn's quote from Season 4. And in general, the way Finn refers to his character as an "idiot" in other interviews shows us that he understands what's going on with Mike, and it pisses him off. If this isn't a sexual identity crisis, then what could be tormenting Mike so much? I remember my identity crisis, which I lived at the age of 15-18. It almost took me to a psychiatrist and a surgeon because I couldn't figure out why I liked both boys and girls and why I sometimes felt like a guy. It was scary. I lived in Russia in the 2000s and it was very similar to the 1980s in America, trust me. The clash of conservatism and liberalism regarding sexual minorities and their representation on TV was simply crazy. I had no where to get information about what was happening to me. And as I look at Mike's tossing, I remember that I also tried my best to be "normal." I had my first sex at 20, with my close many-years friend, because it was too scary for me. And at the same time I suffered very deeply inside and thought that I was going crazy. Of course, Mike begins to lie to himself and believe his lies in order to stay sane. He really believes what he says at the end of Season 4. But his monologue is the bizarre mixture of lies and half-truths that he is now capable of.
I sincerely believe that Mike loves El. However, he is completely honest when he says that he "cares about her", calls her a "superhero" and cannot say "I love you" when El expects these words from him as her boyfriend. He loves her, but not in the way that El loves him -- not in a romantic way. Mike's monologue at the end of Season 4 is kind of a compromise. He reconciled his two opposing sides inside and brought them to what we have in the final. But while it's true that he might like guys too, he's not ready to dive just yet.
And at the same time, I really like the way El reacts to all of this. I want to ask the Mileven fans why, after the long-awaited “I love you”, El barely talks to Mike and feels lonely? She had been waiting for these words for so long, heard them -- but is she unhappy? Doesn't this seem strange? I would love to hear an explanation of this situation, because if it's not that El sensed the lie in Mike's words (and that he was lying to himself first of all), then I don't understand what is happening. I think El is amazing and she deserves the truth. And a relationship with a guy who is confused in himself is not what she deserves.
I'm truly sorry for Mike. I understand his conflict, I understand his suffering. He really is terribly confused. And I love how the Duffer brothers showed us that from the very beginning of the series. While everyone was wondering if Will was gay (although in the very first developments for the series, the phrase "has difficulties with sexual identity" was literally on the second line of Will's description, that is, it is a key to his personality), they dragged through the growing up Mike's internal conflict, giving us such microscopic clues that it was very easy to miss.
The theme of growing up, changes in oneself and in the world, self-determination, presented by the Duffer brothers in Stranger Things is really brilliant. We are used to the fact that there are shows for children and there are shows for teenagers, and these are completely different age categories and they raise completely different topics. And because of this, the very transition between these categories seems to turn into a perennial abyss. Although in fact the border is very thin, and it is this border that is the most conflicting of the moments of life. We are used to the fact that 15-16 year old teenagers are played by 20+ year old actors, this does not seem strange. And I don’t know how about you, but I still have very strange feelings from the fact that in Season 1 we see 11-13 year old actors who play 12-year-old characters with their childish games, and in 4 season they are already 18-20 years old, their characters have become full-fledged teenagers of 15-16 years old, and they really grew up. But, unlike other shows where we get to know teenage characters already at their 15-16, here we grew up with them. We live together with these complex conflicts of adolescence. And yes, that's why we often feel uncomfortable about it. We want certainty, we want to see that the characters have clear answers to everything, but come on guys! Let's be honest with each other.

(Not directed at you, just venting)
The backflips people will do to be biphobic are astonishing. Like my siblings in christ, it doesn't matter if Mike is gay, bi, pan or some other version of queer - why are we tearing each other down? I'm bi myself and if Mike is bi, great, if he's not, also great. I literally couldn't care less but to be *-phobic* about it is just wild to me. Like y'all will do so much to deny the existence of bi people.
People need to go touch grass. 🙄
I totally agree with you. I sort of flop between my feelings on Mike’s sexuality depending on my vibe on a specific day. Sure, I like to write him as bi—but that usually is a choice I make because I see a lot of my teenage self in him so it’s easy to tap into—-and it allows for (in my personal opinion) some interesting dynamics to be built between multiple characters.
But that’s just it—-isn’t it??? It’s a headcanon. Any take on Mike’s sexuality other than being straight up until this point, as it is written by the Duffer Brothers, is that he is a straight boy dating El.
Any other variance of that is pure speculation/analysis/hopes for season 5. Season 4 gave us some hints, there has been subtle things in past seasons. There have been a lot of choices made by his character that didn’t make sense until post season 4. And it becomes way more complicated when really taking into account his actions towards Will. But either way, Mike has not come out. Mike has not stated with words how he feels/ given any indication of his sexuality. So therefore, any headcanon by a fan of Stranger Things is valid.
I actually like Mike as gay. I, as a bi person, would fucking love if he was gay. It would be perfectly legitimate by what we’ve been shown, and his relationship with El could be explained away perfectly if season five wraps it up in a well written ending.
But so can bi Mike. Bisexuality is also a valid conclusion for Mike. He won’t be lesser than or not queer enough if he ends up being bi.. He won’t love Will Byers any less if he is bi. He won’t be less sexually attracted to Will if he is bi. He won’t be less of a person if he happened to be in love El and Will at the same time in his life. Or god forbid, be sexually attracted to a female. He is still valid as a character if he is bisexual.
And no……he won’t be “better rep” if he is gay.
While I’m at it, even if Mike chose El in the end (which we won’t know until season 5 because we, in fact, are not in the writers’ room) while still harboring attraction and romantic feelings for men, doesn’t make him ANY LESS FUCKING BI. Or any less fucking QUEER. And im so tired of talking about it.

Duffer brothers Deadline interview and Vecna´s past (Stranger Things 4 SPOILERS)!
Deadline has published a new looong interview to Duffer brothers (it´s really interesting, I recommend it). But! Things that got my interest and keep me hyped as hell:
DEADLINE: Did Dr. Martin Brenner not know that this kid killed his family and framed his father, or did this kid’s sociopathic potential offer Brenner an opportunity to really mold a weapon without a conscience?
MATT DUFFER: The second, really. He knew what this kid did and also what he was capable of when he was young. Brenner’s going, how can I mold this character, but not just into a weapon? That’s really how he sold it to the government, but for him as a scientist, it’s like, what other worlds can this kid show me about how our universe works? So, he’s really just that scientist who’s not really thinking about the consequences. He just keeps pushing, pushing, pushing, and he’s using the government’s money by saying hey we can fight the Soviets with this kid. It’s something we will get into in Season 5. What happened to that program once Henry became involved and how Brenner evolved it into including multiple kids. We’re going to go back and see some of that in Season 5.
They are going to touch Henry´s past in the lab and the MKUltra Project (I have already written a theory about this here)!!!
Tumblr media
They also said that some "revelations" were purposedly left out for last season and that they kept "One" name under chains since the beginning (they also kind of implied that they don´t actually read or participate in the making of "comic books and side merchandising". They only approbe the ideas that the authors come them with.

I am truly so tired of het writers making queer characters. How about this, if you don’t know how to accurately portray one and just want them as a plot device, don’t fucking make them queer.
There was no need for Will to have to use his own feelings to strengthen El and Mike’s relationship. Fucking make Jonathon give Mike the damn pep talk or something. Don’t force the gay character who’s in love with his best friend to suffer through that type of shit.
There was no reason to add a canonically lesbian character to force a straight (and not to even mention toxic) relationship back together. Then to introduce her love interest (who was a side character) as already having a damn boyfriend.
And Eddie had no fucking reason to die. If you’re too scared to touch the main cast, don’t make a show centered around the idea of them dying. Eddie was a sweet character that everyone loved. The entire season centered him and how the curse was following him, just for him to die “being a hero.” The trope of coward turns hero is so overplayed and so fucking tiring. Eddie was already a badass. We didn’t need some inner monologue of all of the weak things he did, because say it together now, HE WAS A FUCKING KID.
Our community is tired of this bury your gays shit. And, to be honest, this doesn’t make me want to tune in for season 5. Because season 4 got the message across pretty clearly. “If you’re gay, you’re an outsider mistake who doesn’t deserve to be happy.” So thank you Duffer brothers for absolutely ruining the one show I thought would finally understand me. I really fucking appreciate it.

hot take: people's hc's and hopes for s5 are the most angsty things i've ever read and i cannot imagine enough comfort in the world to balance out some of the angsty shit people are putting out there. we've already gotten 4 seasons of byler angst, haven't people had enough?? my fragile constitution cannot handle the dramatics. why do people write out mike and will saying the most heartbreaking shit to each other?? i just want them to forehead touch and kiss to a beautiful musical score. i want them to bake a loaf of bread together and eat it at sunset and then hold hands at nightfall. that's it, that's s5.
YOU AND ME BOTH, BROTHER 🤝
we've sat through four seasons of them getting their shit rocked, i'd like to believe that in season five they'll stick to their promise and finally be a team again for good this time. mike already admitted that he thought he was worrying too much about el to the point that he'd lost will--i don't want that to be the case again. obviously the First Lie is going to come up and has the potential to ruffle some feathers, but like .. i have had Enough lol<3 canon already has enough misery and frustration, i come on here to talk about them indulging in some gay shit. and considering the duffers aren't planning on making s5 as long as s4 was, i ESPECIALLY do not want their story to be mostly angst up until the second to last episode.
some people like the whump factor and to make angsty characters and ships even more angsty, but i am not one of them bc i have no undeniable 100% secured guarantee that there Will be a happy ending. once by|er is endgame and they have their smalltown boy era THEN i will give in to my angst demon tendencies but for now bro the duffers got that shit on lock!!! if i wanted an angst fest i would just rewatch the show like 😭😭😭😭 LMAOOOOO
but everyone is allowed to have their own headcanons and theories and write what they want obvi tbh this isn't hate towards anyone. i jus kno u will Never catch me reblogging tht shit, but i WILL be screaming crying wailing over the cute n tender headcanons tht people post bc those bring me joy<3 mike n will are already in superhell ok i want to pluck them from their story n drop them into a world where they CAN bake bread together, where mike can wipe the flour from will's cheek but ends up making even more of a mess, where will can decorate their foccacia and make it look so beautiful that mike feels bad eating it later, where mike and will can steal glances at each other under the stars when they think the other isn't looking, where will can sneak little comics he doodled into mike's locker and textbooks for him to find later, where will draws on mike's hand and forearm bc mike is thinking abt a tattoo but too pussy to go through with it, where he can then try his best to return the favor and it's fucking awful LMAO but will loves it sm bc it's mike and he'll never say no to mike putting his hands on him, and where they can slowdance in will's room (bc they Never hang out in mike's room and as such don't want to draw suspicion), and where they can flirt by comparing hand sizes as is tradition like will putting their hands together and being like "wow haha ur hand is so big! :)" and mike is just so so so red screaming dying inside pressing the tips of his fingers down a lil bit bc he wants to lace their fingers together but he doesnt know if will is jus being will or if they're having a category 5 lgbt moment right now so he just chokes out a "yeah haha 😳 crazy..." and gulps like a dweeb, and and and-----

while i don’t want max to die, it would have been better for the story than it was for eddie to die.
the reason for eddies death was such a cliché, every time he ran away he had every reason to, and the one time he didn’t run away from danger he died. i like the idea of him distracting the demobats but he didn’t have to die in order to do that.
i know a lot of people still think eddie is straight, but that doesn’t change the queercoding he had. it makes me think the duffer brothers made a character that they knew would be perceived as queer and then killed him off before it could be canon. it’s just more queerbaiting.
he never got to clear his name. like they didn’t know how so instead of figuring it out they just killed him so they wouldn’t have to.
the reaction after eddies death was so disappointing. the only people who even mentioned his name were some guy on the news, dustin, and wayne. they couldn’t have atleast had a scene where dustin tells them what happened? or something with the vest? we didn’t even get to see lucas or mikes reactions. i can guess that they’re not even going to mention him in season 5 even though he was such a big part of this season. even billy got a better send off and he did nothing good for any of the main characters.
the reason max stayed alive was left unexplained and i feel like it was just unnecessary. what are they going to do now that max is blind and in a coma? and why does el suddenly have the power to revive people?? are they ever going to revisit or explain that?? the aftermath of max’s death would have been so much more important and it could have added more to every characters storyline. instead they didn’t want to touch the main cast and killed a new character like they always do.

Some late night thoughts of your local Cultural Anthropologist who primarily focusses on Popular Culture and Representation in media.
Content Warnings apply for mentions of racism and antisemitism.
I see a lot of people praise the scenes in the new Stranger Things season that were improvised by the actors. And yeah it's true that some of the best moments were adlips/improv - but do y'all realize that this just is a testament of the writing quality lacking? I mean - when the BEST SCENES of a season are IMPROVISED that means the writing just was not that good.
Like, I enjoy Stranger Things. I do. But we have to acknowledge that the writers are just... not nessicarily as strong as we might like to give them credit for. This is further evidenced by them giving their two prominent Black characters both the Stereotype treatment (Erica is sassy, Lucas does sports - it's themes we are familiar with) and the hatecrime treatment (this needs no explanation); by the fact their only two [definitely canon] queer characters just act as comic relief or to push forth other character's relationships without having much own agency; by the fact they killed off a new [queer-coded] character incredibly lazily instead of keeping him - and there are more ways for Eddie to be a hero than dying of something we have seen other characters survive; the backtracking of Steve and Nancy and their relationship after we have seen them go separate ways; the fact they reduced Jonathan to a stoner archetype except for very few scenes that were without him having his own agency.
Whilst the new season was incredible in terms of visuals and overall arc and well as acting and editing, the writing just was lacking. And that isn't even touching on the INCREDIBLE antisemitism behind the scenes, the fact they chose a literal former WW2 prison camp as a location and the fact they are now turning it into a themed hotel!?!
So yeah. The writing is just not as great as we tend to give credit. And consivering this and the very popular Kas theory I am almost certain that the only way and reason it would ever happen in season 5 is because the Duffer brothers copy the better ideas of the fanbase.
Rant/thought thing end.

𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝟰, 𝗬𝗘𝗦 𝗜 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗔𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬 𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗦 𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗜𝗧 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗛𝗔𝗦𝗡’𝗧!
So Season 4 of Stranger things has been nominated to win an Emmy and so has Big Mouth Season 5, now I’d like to explain why I think Stranger Things shouldn’t be getting an Emmy.
I honestly love Stranger Things and I have for a while, I’ve basically been watching it since it came out. But Season 4 just wasn’t as good. I’m not sure if it was just that there were too many characters or there was just too much going on or what it was but it was just different from the other magnificent seasons they’ve made. It just felt off. I think one of the big parts is just how much queerbaiting they did especially with Byler (Mike x Will). They kind of did it with Eddie and Steve, Nancy and Robin, Eleven and Max, etc. I’m not saying that every single character in Stranger Things has to be gay or anything like that (since people have been getting upset about that) I’m just saying that Netflix lost a lot of potential from not putting any of them together. Yes I know that Eleven was dating Mike and Max was sort of dating Lucas but still- Robin was single, Steve was single, and so was Steve. But where they really fucked up was with Byler. Holy shit I could write a whole ass chapter book on how much they fucked up with Byler. So many people have stated that Will liked someone even the creators the Duffer Brothers themselves said he did. But instead of using this or at least DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS, they used it to help out a completely heterosexual couple. It’s just disgusting that we could finally get a queer relationship in Stranger Things other than just Robin having a crush on a random girl (more on that later) but nope. That was taken away from us cuz we can’t have a queer relationship in the show. But we could’ve at least gotten another queer character but no, he barely even told anyone! He wouldn’t even tell Johnathan in a non metaphoric way. My mother who is literally Pansexual couldn’t understand, had me to explain it, then search it up to get it explained more cuz she had no clue why he was crying. No hate to my mom of course it’s just that some people won’t understand why he’s crying since they never said anything about him being gay in this season. It was said in previous seasons but not the one where he cries about not being able to date his best friend. I really hope they fix this in the next season but I doubt it. Now with Robin and the other girl I can’t remember the name of, I don’t like them. I’m glad that we actually get the possibility for a queer relationship in Stranger Things but she literally just entered in this season. I think it would’ve been better for Robin to have had a crush on Nancy instead simply because they obviously have more chemistry and just more scenes together than Robin and her crush. Robin and Nancy are obviously better friends and would work better because of that, because they have a friendship while Robin and her crush barely have anything. It’s sweet in the scenes that they’re in but Nancy and Robin just work better! Now my next topic for this is Eddie’s death. Yes I loved Eddie and it might sound just like I’m angry because he died but it’s more than that, it’s the reason that he died. I think it’s stupid that the creators won’t touch their main characters for death but they’ll kill off beloved characters THAT ONLY GOT ONE SEASON!!! Like Barb, Bob, and Alexei were all instantly loved by the fandom and then were instantly killed off!! Like Tf? They did the same thing to Eddie! Brought a new character in, people loved him, and then killed him off. But they would never even touch their precious little main characters. It’s stupid how Steve literally was also bitten by the bats so many times and then SURVIVED. Max broke all her Fucking 206 bones, blood came out of her eyes and she went blind and SURVIVED. But somehow Eddie gets bitten a couple times and then dies. It makes no sense. He also died For a town that saw him as a cult leader that killed hundreds of people! Like what the actual fuck. They didn’t deserve Eddie. Don’t think this as me absolutely hating Stranger Things, of course there were good things, there always were but they could’ve done so much better with this. I really hope they fix it in season 5 but again I really really doubt it.
Now Big Mouth! Big Mouth season 5 is honestly so much better and deserves the Emmy even more. It gets creative and talks about serious topics like love and hate and how sometimes those feelings aren’t exactly expressed in the best ways. Sure, it can be gross at some parts but that’s what makes Big Mouth different from any show I’ve ever seen! They’re not afraid to get gross and show actual representation than just one gay character! It also has amazing songs and just good, creative animation. Sure, stranger things talks about trauma and things like that but Big Mouth talks about, shame, masturbation (and how it’s healthy), periods, love, hate, expressing your feelings in an incorrect manner, suppressing your feelings, depression, anxiety, toxic relationships, grief, and a lot more! Topics that some shows won’t even touch! They just do so much and do it in such interesting ways even if they’re gross sometimes! But they do it in their own way! That’s why it deserves an Emmy, it doesn’t care what they’re talking about, they’ll do it! While stranger things dangles their topics and like lightly graces their fingers over them. Sure Stranger Things isn’t all about these topics but they won’t even show more than one gay character like Big Mouth does! Plus Big Mouth is just more creative and is just better to look at!
I’d love to hear y’all’s opinions (creative criticism please) about these in the comments!!

I have no where else to put this, so I'm putting it here. Like any good fan, I've re-watched Stranger Things multiple times, even after season 4, I re-watched the show. However, it took me until this newest re-watch to realize the theme of season 4 is broken hearts and lost love.
Should have been obvious, right?
Henry, Will, El, Steve, Eddie, Robin, Joyce, Hopper! Hell, even Papa.
Not only from the characters themselves but also the selection of songs chosen: Running up that hill and Separate Ways are BOTH pretty romantic songs.
Whether it was intentional or not, they played into the whole seasons vibe!
Let's delve deeper (as I'm sure you ALL have already done and I'm just late to the game).
Papa tells the story about NINA, a play about a woman who lost her lover, and therefore blocked out the traumatic memory.
I started to have a "OH SHIT" moment.
El lost her memory because of Henry.
She tried to cover the trauma, which in turn blocked her from being at her full capacity.
You may be saying, "Why does that matter? How does this relate?"
Because of these Lyrics right here: "Unaware I'm tearing you asunder" from Kate Bush.
What a word Asunder is, a very powerful word. One rarely used anymore. It means divide or apart. Old English has it as "sundran" which says "in or into a separate place" Sounds familiar doesn't it?
"Someday love will find you (Mike) Break those chains that bind you (Papa) One night will remind you (Traumatic event) How we touched and went our separate ways (Eleven tearing Henry ASUNDER and sending him into the upside down)"
Did the Duffer brothers mean for this to happen? Probably not. Journey is a great band and this song is amazing. However, this is pretty on the nose, wouldn't you say?
Now, we come down to love, lost love, and broken hearts. No one really caught Henry's attention out of ALL those kids, except Eleven. She was powerful, shy, and didn't boast about her powers. But Henry, being perceptive, could see she had a lot of power. She was more like him than any of them.
How rare for him to find someone on his level, someone who could understand.
When she says he tricked her, and his brows furrow, you can see he is confused. How could she think he hadn't saved her? That's how he saw it. Setting her free from the chains that bound her.
He asks her to JOIN HIM! Such a classic move, he knows together they could be powerful. Together, they could be happy. I know Eleven is too young for this to be romantic love (DUH PEOPLE) but he does love her in a familial way. He knows she is his family, which is why her rejection hurts more than he thought.
No one spends 4 years attacking someone unless the wound is deep. Henry has been after Eleven since season 1. No one realized who it was, except maybe Papa. But the pain she caused him, made him come after her more and more until he gained enough strength to travel with his mind.
Kate Bush is important to Max and Lucas, as well as El and Henry. I feel deep down, Eleven wishes she could have done something different. Maybe she could have saved him? I don't know the original intentions behind Running up that Hill, my interpretation is that it's someone trying to save someone else, and the other person is being torn apart by their efforts to save them because perhaps they don't want to be saved or are in a situation where saving them could hurt them (just an idea).
Vecna, Henry, One. All of them know El, all of them loved El, and now she is their biggest enemy. The one who punished them simply for who they are, when she was supposed to be the one who loved them.
Papa hoped El would forgive him even after all he did, because as he claimed, he loved her. She didn't give him that (he didn't deserve it and she didn't owe it to him).
Broken hearts play such a theme in season 4. It's really crazy, I can't believe how I overlooked it. I really can't wait to see what season 5 theme is, and how they will play it out.

ok ok so i really feel like everyone's characters got fucked up by season four. like it was so out of character for everyone in general and for the most part.
yes, parts of it were good. but most of the good parts were just like relatively good compared to everything bad going on and/or compared to all of the theories we were anticipating be true.
i've seen people say most fan theories were better than what happened and .. yeah. so here are my thoughts. this will have spoilers.
i think steve should've died instead of eddie. it would've sucked and hurt, but isn't that the point? like, if they're trying to really prove this time that things are serious and they can't make it out alive all the time and all that jazz, then touch. the main. cast. why steve? uhh free joe keery ( /hj ) but also, it would've been good to solidify him as a hero and not make his whole character about loving nancy, but about loving his friends. plus, then eddie would serve as a "replacement" of sorts .. help "parent" the kiddos, ya know?
i think it's an interesting and probably unintentional parallel to have nancy end up with jonathan at the end of the season. let's go back, let's look at this. okay so season 1 .... nancy is with steve, fights monsters with jonathan, gets back with steve. season 2.. breaks up with steve, gets with jonathan. season 3, still with him. season 4 ... with jonathan, fights with steve ( !!! ) , gets back with jonathan ( !!!!! ). see, now, i'm not a stancy by any means, really. but, if im season 5 she gets with him, i could see this parallel playing out, and in that regard, i'd be all for it. but the way they went about it and wrote it, ruining all 3 of their characters, really, i'm like kinda against it?
max's ending in the season was kinda strange. i don't know how to feel about it. they could've saved her more or they could've killed her off, but this halfway thing seems almost lazy, i'm just holding out hope they remedy it in a great way.
let will say he's gay. i'm glad they brought back good big brother jonathan, though. but barely.
i have a lot of thoughts on mike, too. but i feel like they've all mostly been said and have been said better than i could say them. but the point of his life starting the day will went missing... bad writing. i'm just hoping the duffers didn't think that one through. romantic and cheesy monologue, badly written by mistake and neglect for his dynamic with will. it's like fine but tacky writing like objectively. so i think they're just bad, lazy writers and forgot to factor in actual character development. or i could get into the subconscious of mike and call it genius, but i guess i'm too lazy, too.
oh, and jason? that was like, lazy. kind of laughable. i'm glad he's gone but after that really long and unnecessary fight? could've had a better ending, in my opinion. and again, that fight and having the sinclair be victims of fights like that was just soo uncomfortable and just doesn't sit right with me.
i have a lot more to say, i'm sure, but for now, i'm tired.
i just feel like a lot of the writing this season, especially the ending was just kind of lazy. i feel very like disappointed. not even mad or sad, just like empty. underwhelmed, maybe.
i feel the same way about this season as i do avengers endgame and infinity war. i hate those movies. i hate this season. but, i liked them. those movies and this season had a lot of really, really good bits. but the horrible, sad bits just make me feel such a strange, unique, odd and empty feeling that it's hard for me to want to watch them. lots of funny, little moments of dialogue and characters being seemingly happy or even just finding joy in the sadness. those little parts are done really well. but the send offs both pieces gave certain characters are just .... i don't know, man. i just feel bored and weird. idk.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 5
'aight so apparently, season 5 is kind of already confirmed by the duffer brothers and many people have theorized it's kind of like a part 2 of season 4.
we already know that season 4 will include hopper's backstory, the other kids in hawkins lab, the hellfire club, the claremont house, and maybe some other things i haven't touched up on (not really sure how all of those would fit in one season but i trust the brothers so 🤷🏻‍♀️). now, i'm very curious how this will all play out for season 5; like, how will it all connect? maybe a cliffhanger at the end of season 4, or a plot twist — i'm not sure.
another thing is about hopper being in russia and this new season covering a lot about his backstory (as we know from david harbour and noah schnapp, actually), and i'm really curious about how much time him being imprisoned there will cover up the rest of the season or how many episodes that will include, and how that will all tie up to his backstory. and when he gets out, will he ever reunite with the gang? or will that be the cliffhanger that will continue season 4 and season 5?
would love to hear about anybody else's thoughts on this!

okay I'm going to rant about byler in your inbox if you don't mind, honestly Mike and Will's relationship is so wholesome it hurts. every bad patch of their friendship just bring them closer and make them better people. I know there's antis and such like "Mike is growing out of Will's childish behavior", but Mike isn't, he really isn't. their love is honestly inspirational, like they're the reason I believe in love even if they're not canon. Mike is literally a definition of I hate pretty much everyone but you. if you touch him I will eliminate you. and both of them are really soft supportive boyfriends. Mike trusts Will so much it's scary, will was literally possessed and Mike still had his trust in him. and will, I feel like will be the person to allow Mike to hurt him mentally but not leave him. and that much trust could be toxic on both sides(depending on who your with and im not trying to romantize this at all!!! Will is definitely trying to work on letting people walk all over him) but with them it's like they're literally soulmates. and yes I'm all talking about in this world that the duffer Brothers have created not Finn and Noah in the slightest. but just imagine will supporting Mike every step through him becoming an author. and Mike doing the same supporting will every step to become an artist. unlike mileven they actually make each other better people, and don't tear each other down. Mike only acts On emotion when he's with Will because he actually loves will. and will is so honest to Mike, more honest to mike than his own mother. its precious, truly.
okay theories and scenario type things:
1) they would be the couple that everyone in the neighborhood hates because they're supposed to be homophobic but there is definitely some if not most neighbors that do not like them because they are gay but think they're amazing and so so kind.
2) they get along with each other's families so well it's amazing, Mike and Joyce just *screech* Joyce takes care of Mike like son( in law). and like I said will and HollYY.
3) they would most definitely end up getting a demonic cat and call and exorcist because they have seen way too many horror movies (thanks will) and have lived through too many, to know how bad this is going to get.
4) will get so incredibly messy when he paints like, his artwork is wonderful and not messy at all it's like a piece of well, artwork. so sometimes he hugs Mike after he finishes painting and Mike has to take a shower because of how much paint got on him.
5) if Mike does become an author and I really think he will, I imagine him not telling will until will reads his book that he made one of those little pages like thank you sections, and just talked about how much he loved will.
6) will has to have a therapist, because of PTSD, overall mental health things, and his father. but Mike needs one too. and will has tried so hard to make mike go see the same therapist so he can get help with his stuff.
thats all i could think of but if i think of anything i will send it over your way if you don't mind. also i have a post somewhere on my blog about adult byler headcannons so if you wanna see more of some i have :)
First off I’m so sorry I responded to this like 2 days late but here we go
Like you said they really do care for each other a lot and I feel like they would both go to the ends of this EARTH just to save each other because you know that’s just what loves about and they’re deeply in love and it’s so soft and fluffy and adorable and they make me cry sometimes
They balance each other really well especially since Mike is like such a touchy person and Will is just right for that but they balance each other’s personalities as well, and not just emotionally because Will has had problems with not wanting to be treated around like he’s fragile glass and yeah he had a terrible father that called him slur and then a couple years later he somehow went into another dimension being chased by some monster and fighting for his life because that’s scary as hell and then a year later gets possessed by this demonic shadow monster and he’s scared shitless but he for sure isn’t fragile, he’s tough and I can’t wait to see that in season 4 and mike definitely doesn’t treat him like that because he knows what he’s been through
1) there would for sure be those homophobes because it’s the 80’s and I totally agree that some would think they’re sweet and kind
2) they do get along with each other’s families especially Joyce and Mike, because Joyce just knows and does trust Mike the most out of all Wills friends because she literally let mike inside in season 2 because her son was being possessed and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t let any of the other friends do that especially since the shed scene
3) Thank you for noticing my dumb chaotic cat head canon it was honestly just to be funny but honestly this would probably happen and I’m super glad that you put this in here
4) TOP TIER MESSY, he’s painting and all of a sudden he gets mike all painted up because hugs him or kisses him and then mikes just complaining like “stop you’re getting me all messy” and “great now I have to take a shower” but internally he loves it and he loves Will and he’s happy with Will and it’s just cute and fluffy
5) Will would be so supportive but then he reads mikes little thingy and he says something along the lines of “you should really become a writer you really talented with this stuff” and Mike just says “I already plan on becoming a writer just wanted your opinion” or something like that
6) Will for sure would beg mike to go to his therapist with him because that therapist has like really helped but because Mike is so damn STUBBORN he keeps saying no for god knows what reason, maybe because he feels like her ok compared to Will but he’s definitely not and Will knows this and I feel like they would definitely get in a fight about this and Will would let a tear fall and yell something along the lines of “you need this just as much as I do so don’t FUCKING pretend that you don’t need this as much as I do” and they’re both crying and mike finally agrees and says he’s sorry and they kiss and cuddles so close it looks like so impossible to be that close but they’re comforted and they tell each other they love each other so many times
You’re definitely free to send more and sorry I didn’t get to this sooner and I’ll definitely check out some of your byler thingys

Why Jancy Is Endgame
So, recently, I’ve seen quite a bit of Jancy hate which I literally don’t understand, because how can you look at Jancy and think “Wow, I hate them”...like, it genuinely baffles me that people don’t ship Jancy, like how? They have SO MUCH CHEMISTRY it’s unreal. In all three seasons, it’s evident that there’s something more between them than just “monster hunting partners”. So, recently, I have been asking multiple people including my irl friends why they think Jancy is endgame and this is what I’ve come up with.
1.) The Duffers Aren’t Dumb
Even though quite a bit of people are disappointed with the way they’ve taken their writing, you have to admit one thing: they aren’t dumb. They’ve been setting Jancy up to be canon since S1, and fans have been rooting for them to get together since S1. It’s not until Steve’s turn-around that people started hating on Jancy.
Jancy is definitely more popular than Stancy for sure. To a majority of fans, even if Jancy isn’t their favorite Stranger Things ship, they still at least ship it. And, with the exception of hardcore Steve stans, most people who like Steve as a character admit that Jonathan and Nancy fit better together than Steve and Nancy ever did. We know the Duffers like to give in to what a majority of fans want, and Jancy seems to be what a majority of fans want.
There’s 3 core ships that the Duffers have been building up since S1. Those are Jopper, Jancy, and Mileven. It’s obvious in S1 that these ships are going to become canon eventually, and they’re also the three core ships of the show that people love. They also tend to focus on these three relationships quite a bit in their writing, with the majority of major relationship moments being with these three ships, especially Mileven. It’s obvious they want us to root for these ships.
The main point I’m trying to make is the Duffers have been setting Jancy up to be canon since S1. They have shown us many moments in all three seasons that show us just how much chemistry Jancy has. From the bed scene in S1, to the hallway scene in S2, they’re obviously trying to show us that Jancy is meant to get together.
Not only that, but Jancy was ACTUALLY supposed to be canon in S1. I don’t know how many people know this, but Steve was supposed to die in S1, and Jancy was supposed to get together. The writers liked Joe Keery so they decided they needed to find a way to keep him on the show. It’s clear to me that the writers themselves are rooting for Jancy, which means that they want us to root for Jancy too.
I’m not here to say how the Duffers should write the next seasons, and I myself don’t know what happens in the future seasons, but I do see the clues that the Duffers have given us since S1 and I also believe that the Duffers know what they’re doing. They know what the majority of fans want and it’s clear to me that they want us to root for Jancy, so obviously they’re gonna keep them together.
2.) THAT Ending Scene In S3
A lot of people that say “Jancy has no chemistry” clearly have not seen their last scene in S3. To me, that scene is a promise. A promise to each other and to us that Jancy is in it for each other.
In this scene, you can see that they are so painfully in love. They don’t want to leave each other. You can tell it breaks both of their hearts that they have to separate for a bit.
I could do a whole analysis of this scene, and I just might do that later, but to me, what they’re saying to each other is “We’ve been through so much together, why can’t we go through a little more?”
Sure, long-distance would be harder in the 80s, but I do believe that their love is strong enough to last. They clearly both love each other very much. And there’s always phone calls and letters and visiting each other on breaks.
When thinking of the LDRs that the Byers move caused, lots of people think of Mileven, but Jancy is actually way more likely to be endgame than Mileven at this point. We don’t know what happens in future seasons or if the Byers eventually move back, but we do know that Jonathan and Nancy are seniors in high school and almost 18. Mike and Eleven are barely starting high school and have more time to be apart than Jancy does. Once Jancy graduates, they can do whatever they want. Sure, one could say that Jonathan might feel an obligation to stay with his family, but we also know that he has an ambition for NYU. We have no idea what Nancy wants. I can honestly see her go to college for journalism or something similar. What’s to stop her from going to NYU or somewhere in NY with Jonathan?
We don’t know what the Duffers have in store for Jancy’s future, but I trust that they can give Jancy the perfect ending they deserve. That scene in S3 has so much underlying meaning to it, like the fact that the song that play in the background during it is called “You’re a Fighter”. I have a whole different thing planned on analyzing that scene, and I’ll post that later, but basically, with that scene, to me, the Duffers are trying to say “They’re in this for each other. They’re so in love that they’re going to make it work”
3) They are the most mature relationship on the show
I’ve seen quite a few people say that the argument they had in S3 is “proof they are incompatible” but that is simply not true. In fact, if anything, it shows how they are exactly the opposite. Here’s why.
So, every couple fights. It’s the ability to work through a fight and come out stronger and more understanding that shows just how committed a couple is to each other. Jonathan and Nancy are a prime example of this.
Jonathan and Nancy come from different backgrounds. This argument of “I’m poor” and “People are being sexist towards me” is a very adult argument. I mean, most teenage couples you see have fights about jealousy-type crap. Jancy’s fight is a fight that adults would have. That’s why I believe they are a very mature couple.
Not only that, but the key thing to remember is that they both admitted that they felt bad for what they said and apologized, reaffirming their commitment to each other. This is a fight that they can grow from as a result. Because they apologized and acknowledged their wrong-doings, they have a better foundation for understanding each other in the future and they can grow as a couple. This can also give them a perspective on life that maybe they didn’t think about before.
Honestly, Jancy has been through a lot crap together so they kind of have to be mature. Plus, Jonathan himself had to grow up faster than most children, which gives him a perspective on life that he most likely passed on to Nancy.
This is why I believe Jancy is the most mature couple. Instead of letting their fight get the best of them, they acknowledged their wrong-doings and became more understanding of each other as a result. It takes real maturity to do something like that.
The reason I compare them to the other couples is because, look at Mileven’s fight in S3. It seems sort of childish compared to Jancy’s. And Lumax has broken up 5 times apparently. And Jopper, gosh, they have a lot of issues to work out. Jancy seems to have effectively worked out their differences and become stronger as a result.
Charlie Heaton (Jonathan) himself said that when he first read the S3 script, he thought that Jancy seemed like a married couple, which I think says a lot about their relationship. They are so mature and comfortable with each other like that. He also said this, which basically sums up what I said, here:
Tumblr media
4) They are more than just “shared trauma”
I’ve seen a lot of people criticize Jancy by saying stuff like “Shared trauma isn’t a good foundation for a relationship”, but I’m about to prove why that’s bullcrap, because Jancy is more than their shared trauma.
So, shared trauma seems to be what the writers like to point out about their relationship. In the ending scene in S3, Jonathan tells Nancy “We’ve got shared trauma”. He is referring to what Murray said to them in S2 when he was telling them why they should get together. Just because “shared trauma” is what Murray emphasized, doesn’t mean it’s their only foundation.
I’d quickly like to point out though, that shared trauma is actually a real life relationship trope and there are real-life couples founded on this. But, I’d also like to point out that Jancy’s trauma isn’t just any trauma. They didn’t just fight in Vietnam together or something, like it’s not every day your loved one gets kidnapped by an otherworldly demon.
I think the main emphasis that the show is focusing on when they say “shared trauma” is the scars. I mean, when Jonathan said that line in S3, he was touching Nancy’s scar that he shares with her. They are the only two people with those matching scars. Those scars are something that unites them and reminds them of the past they share.
Their “trauma” isn’t just how they met either. I mean, they obviously knew each other before the events of S1. Their brothers are best friends. I’m not saying they were friends or anything, but they were definitely acquaintances.
Their trauma is how they grew closer. I mean, before their first traumatic experience, they seemed to be getting on each other’s nerves a bit. It’s not until Nancy almost became Demogorgon lunch that they started realizing they could trust each other. After that, they realized they worked well together and they may or may not have fallen in love.
Also, let’s not forget all the flirting they did before their traumatic experience. The darkroom, even the target practice scene.
I think the key thing to remember with their trauma though is that, because they both went through similar experiences, they understand each other in that way. I mean, part of Stancy breaking up was because Steve didn’t realize the trauma she was going through and didn’t understand fully how to help her. Jonathan understood in a way what she was feeling because he went through something similar.
And yeah, shared trauma might not be a good foundation, because obviously there’s other things to consider in a relationship, but if there’s anything S3 showed us it’s that Jancy knows how to communicate and work through their problems, so clearly that’s not an issue for them.
5) The love triangle is done
I’ve seen some online articles that say things like “Now that Jonathan is gone, Nancy will go back with Steve”. I’ve even heard people say “Nancy will go with Robin”. Both of those are bullcrap.
First of all, Stancy’s arc is finished. S2 showed us how incompatible they were by showing how Steve hasn’t been a good support system for Nancy and showing that Nancy no longer loved Steve. Nancy obviously felt something more for Jonathan, who could support her in a better way than Steve could, because Jonathan had similar experiences. After they broke up, they were done. And when Jonathan and Nancy kissed the love triangle was over. It was solved.
I think most of the fans can agree that they are glad the love triangle was solved, that way Nancy’s story can be about more than just boys. It would be stupid for the Duffers to bring it back and it would ruin every ounce of character development that Steve and Nancy have gone through. And I am confident that the Duffers aren’t stupid.
Part of Steve’s S2 arc is getting over Nancy and accepting that she no longer loves him and even finding a friend in Dustin. Part of Nancy’s arc in S2 was realizing she should embrace that girl she was for a week in November 1983. She gets justice for Barb and even embraces her feelings for the school outcast. Nancy and Steve can still be friends, and even Jonathan and Steve, but that’s it. Nothing more. It’s been decided that Nancy doesn’t love Steve, she loves Jonathan. Even if Jonathan is far away, it’s possible to love him from a distance.
And about Robin and Nancy, it’s also highly unlikely. Again, I think most fans are tired of Nancy’s love life and love triangle and are glad it’s over. Adding Robin to the mix would make it even more complicated.
First of all, it’s not canon that Nancy is bisexual. The only canon LGBT character is Robin. It is implied that Will may be as well, but nothing has been confirmed.
I can see Robin and Nancy being good friends, but Robin did call her a priss in S3 and also, it’s like an unspoken rule in best-friendship that you don’t date their exes. Robin and Steve are best friends. This would break that rule.
I do know, based on leaked photos, Nancy and Robin most likely work together (maybe even with Steve) in S4. I believe, however, that the relationship is fully platonic. It would be nice for Nancy to have a friend that’s a girl after her loss of Barb, and Robin is a good person and would be a great friend for Nancy. I also believe, however, that Nancy is 100% dedicated to Jonathan (based on the last scene in S3) and will only be working with Robin (and maybe Steve) because they know something that would be useful.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is: Nancy’s love life arc has ended. It’s been decided that Nancy doesn’t love Steve and he can’t give her what she wants. And I think most Ronance shippers are just trolls, tbh. No one seems really serious about any Nancy and Robin relationship that’s anything more than platonic.
———————
And I think that about sums up why I believe Jancy is endgame. Jonathan and Nancy clearly love and care for each other very much as shown in all three seasons. Plus, there’s the fact that THEIR ACTORS ARE LITERALLY DATING IN REAL LIFE! (Seriously both Jancy and Natarlie are relationship goals).
I am extremely confident that even if Jancy does break up at some point, it won’t be for long and they’ll somehow find their way back to each other because they are soulmates. That is a guarantee. I have full confidence that the Duffers can give their relationship the perfect ending they deserve. I’d like to hear your guys’ feedback (please try to keep negativity away). Do you believe Jancy is endgame?
And here’s proof that Jancy loves each other:

•The real tear jerker
•Hopper’s letter.
•Oh, my goodness gracious alive, the sobs coming out of me were not human
•He referenced so many things from season 1 and 2 and of course referenced back to the first episode of this season
•”Keep the door open 3 inches.”
•And he told El that he had forgotten how to feel until he met her
•I could go on forever about the letter, but I won’t tell all the good stuff :)
•Okay. Now. The End Credits scene.
•This, of course, hints that Hopper is indeed alive
•My friend and I argued this. She thinks he’s dead, but I think he’s alive. Here’s why.
•First, The Duffer Brothers are very good about making sure no storylines/relationships go to waste without reason.
•So, there would have been absolutely NO PURPOSE in building up Hopper and Joyce’s relationship and then just killing him.
•Unless, they want to continue to build Joyce’s list of lost loves. Which, yes, is possible.
•Secondly, the Russian guard said “not the American” when the other guard was walking by one of the cells
•So, OBVIOUSLY someone we know (or at least have heard of) is in that cell
•And who’s the only person we know of that could have possible made way to Russia?
•Hopper
•I think he jumped in the portal (or the gate, if you will) and it took him to Russia somehow or another
•Maybe it took him directly there, or he traveled through the Upside Down and ended up there
•That’s JUST A THEORY
•This is not confirmed or anything, it’s up to interpretation. Hopefully, we will find out soon!
THANK YOU FOR READING THESE! Season 3 was fantastic, I can’t wait for 4!!
