PART FOUR

“Ouch! Watch it, Yara! You’re stabbing me!”

Yara released her grip from the striped material of your sweater, letting it fall back down against your torso.

“I’m sorry… Is your personal tailoring experience not luxurious enough? Did you want some sparkling water? Some Crystal Light, perhaps?” The petite girl quipped, eyes narrowing.

You pressed your lips together, holding back the snarky remark that was wanting to come out from between them. You really weren’t in any position to complain. Yara had gone to the trouble of coming up with both your and Jungkook’s costumes, not to mention the fact that she was missing her scheduled viewing of Saved By The Bell just to help you get ready — truly honorable act on her part.

Shutting the pair of scissors with a sharp snip, your best friend placed them down onto the bathroom sink decisively, clearly satisfied with the holes she had carved into your oversized red and green sweater.

“What do you think? I can smear some more brown eyeshadow on the sweater if you want.”

Turning towards the mirror, you let your eyes fall over Yara’s handwork.

When Yara said you were going to be Freddie Krueger you should have expected that there would be no half-assing on her part. Jungkook was right in his assessment that the two of you were similar. Yara, although sometimes indolent, was absolutely unstoppable when she set her mind to something.

“It looks great. You went above and beyond as always.” You flashed her reflection a smile.

Reaching for the hat that sat on the counter, Yara plopped it onto your head, a satisfied grin finding her as she took in the completed look.

“So are you ready?” She inquired. “Tonight’s the big night. You nervous?”

“A little…” You confessed, shrugging. At your words, Yara adjusted your hat slightly.

“Don’t be. We went over the game plan last night, remember?”

Keeping still until your best friend’s creative vision for your hat was completed, you let out a sigh.

“Yeah.”

It should be easy; smile, hang onto Jungkook’s arm as if he was your life support, and be sure to kiss him somewhere everyone could see. Piece of cake. Totally.

Sensing a weight behind your tone, Yara offered you an encouraging smile, her hands finding yours.

“You’re gonna have a totally kick-ass time, I’m sure.” She enthused.

“As long as Jungkook doesn’t sneak off to go bang his ex and leave me alone. I don’t know anyone who is gonna be there.” You sulked, before tapping a finger against your chin in contemplation. “Then again, it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. If he and Kiri get back together, I can finally stop pretending to date him.”

At your words, Yara’s eyebrows furrowed as if to tell you something you had said hadn’t sat well with her. Before she got the chance to express what that was, however, a loud series of knocks rang out.

“Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” You mused dryly causing Yara to laugh.

“I’ll go let him in, you stay here and try on the socks.” She ordered as she walked out, slamming the bathroom door behind her, leaving you without a choice.

You were curious however, ears tuned into the greeting that was just outside the door as Jungkook came in. Slipping on one of the socks, you brought it up to your knee, tugging at the fabric until it was no longer bunching around your ankle.

“What the hell? You cropped the shirt yourself, didn’t you? I told you I was gonna cut it for you.”

“Chill out. What’s your damage? I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to cut my own shirt.”

“Yeah, nice going, dipshit. It’s fucking crooked!”

You let out a sigh.

Your best friend and fake boyfriend could not be left unattended for even a minute without needing you to play referee, it seemed.

Pushing the bathroom door open, you poked your head out, “Children, children, let’s play nice–”

Jungkook’s head turned to you, expression softening from the irritated glare he was offering Yara just moments ago. You hardly noticed, however, too captivated by what he was wearing to pay the gentle way he looked at you any mind.

He was in a cropped white jersey, the number 10 plastered across his chest in blue just above the ragged seam of where the shirt ended, exposing inches of the lower half of his firm stomach, causing your face to flame.

Low on his hips was a pair of blue sweatpants, the ends of them tucked into his high top Chuck Taylor’s that were similar, if not the same, to the pair you had been planning on wearing.

Johnny Depp would surely be proud of Jungkook’s rendition of Glen Lantz, you decided. He even wore the same pair of silver headphones around his neck.

You cleared your throat, finally pulling your eyes away from your pretend lover’s torso.

“Wow… that’s crooked.”

“Hah! Told you.” Yara pressed, pleased at your assessment.

“Remind me why I put up with the two of you again?” Jungkook frowned, crossing his arms over his chest, unaware of the way it caused his already short shirt to ride up further.

Pulling yourself from the bathroom altogether, you walked over to the couch, plopping down onto it as you began to put on your other sock.

“Sick costume, nerd.” Jungkook praised, eyes fixated on you as you moved. “You’d make a hot serial killer.”

“Yeah, well, don’t cream your pants.” You teased, flashing him a grin.

“I can’t promise anything tonight. I’m a frisky drunk.” He winked back, causing you to roll your eyes.

“Ugh, barf me out. You’re the first on my list when I finally crack and go full homicidal.” You informed him, causing him to chuckle.

“Pleasure and pain. You really know how to get me going, Y/N.”

Yara was leaning up against the kitchen counter, quietly watching the two of you with increasing intrigue. Taking in the way the sides of your eyes creased in amusement as you continued your banter with your so-called fake boyfriend, she suppressed a smirk.

“Well…” Yara finally spoke up, a sly look on her face, “as endearing as I find your warped, semi-abusive way of flirting with one another... I have a show to catch so if you both could just hurry it up—”

“Woah, woah, woah, we’re not flirting.”

“Get real, as if I’d be flirting with him.”

Yara could only laugh at the way you both denied her accusation immediately, words overlapping with one another in unison.

“Whatever. I’ve got fake blood in the bathroom. Jungkook follow me.” She brushed the two of you off.

The costumed boy flashed you a funny look before ultimately trailing after your best friend.

Chewing on your bottom lip in silent contemplation, you let yourself ponder on your best friend’s words.

That wasn’t flirting, was it? No, that was just you and Jungkook’s usual playful banter. Sure, maybe the two of you had gotten more comfortable with one another as the days have ticked by, but it wasn’t as if it was anything more than that, right?

Lately, you had been catching yourself growing somewhat excited about seeing Jungkook, even though you saw him nearly every day. Somehow having the messy-haired boy in your life had become routine.

Having Jungkook by your side felt normal as if you wouldn’t mind it if things were always this way. And that scared you.

Shaking your head, you began to put on your shoes, tying up your laces solemnly.

The moment you held your event and Jungkook and Kiri were back together, things would go back to the way they were before. You didn’t want Jungkook to be someone you were going to miss, but it seemed like with every lopsided grin he threw at you he was cementing himself into your life more and more.

This business venture of yours was looking out to be more costly than you initially anticipated.

But as Jungkook and Yara walked out of the bathroom chatting excitedly, Yara’s hands stained and Jungkook’s jersey now smeared with fake blood, you couldn’t help but feel like you’d be willing to pay the price if it meant that this warm feeling in your chest would last just a little while longer.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Jungkook asked you, hand gripping yours tighter.

You tried your best to meet his eyes. It was difficult considering how dimly lit the room was. Fitting though, considering this party was Halloween themed.

“Yes. You’ve asked me that four times now.” You told him loudly, trying to be heard over the loud sound of Michael Jackson’s Thriller playing throughout the house.

“I dunno, you’re not saying anything. It’s, like, freaking me out.” He admitted.

“I’m just… observing.”

“Observing what?”

He watched as your stare fixated itself on the beer pong tournament that was occurring across the room, excited shouts coming from several people as one of Jungkook’s brothers scored a point.

“Gorillas.” You said, finally. “In their natural habitat.”

Jungkook laughed, enjoying the way your nose scrunched up at them.

“Hey now, did we say before we got here?” He tutted disapprovingly, waging a finger at you. You followed the digit with the frown.

“Yeah, yeah, I promised no judging the common folk. This is how the intellectually lesser entertain themselves, I remember.” You sighed out, gaze flicking up to catch the amusement in Jungkook’s eyes.

The costumed boy nudged his shoulder into yours; he liked it when you joked around with him like this. It made him feel like you were comfortable around him and that you might even enjoy his company.

“Do you know what you need?” He began happily.

“I do not but my answer is already no.”

“A drink.” He continued, ignoring you.

Suddenly, you were yanked forward, Jungkook leading you by the hand towards where you assumed the drinks were.

You hadn’t been at the party for very long, but already the social interaction had exhausted you. Jungkook was far more popular than you had previously concluded; the two of you could hardly take two steps before running into someone who wanted to say hello to the frat boy attached to you.

It was daunting in a sense – the concept that every person that came up to him was going to leave the interaction with the impression that you were Jungkook’s girlfriend. Perhaps guilt wasn’t the right word, but something about the way the party’s attendees glanced down at yours and Jungkook’s intertwined hands caused your stomach to flip and neck to grow hot.

So you kept to yourself mainly, letting your socially confident boyfriend do all the talking. You didn’t mind, really; it was somewhat remarkable the way Jungkook could handle himself in a social situation. He had a way of acting like every person that stopped to chat was important.

As Jungkook and you made your way into the large fraternity house’s kitchen, you wondered if it wasn’t acting at all and if he was just that nice of a person.

“Righteous costume, JK!” A disembodied voice called out from somewhere, clearly directed at Jungkook.

You hardly had time to decipher where the voice had come from before an outrageously good looking boy draped in a white toga came forward, pulling Jungkook into a hug.

“You finally cut your hair. Looking good, Tae.” Jungkook laughed back, patting the handsome man’s back affectionately.

You watched their interaction with interest. This wasn’t acting, as far as you knew. Judging by the way Jungkook’s laugh has grown higher in pitch, something you had noticed occurred when he was genuinely happy, you knew you were witnessing genuine friendship, not just polite socializing.

“And who is this lovely lady who, might I add, looks killer? Pun totally intended.” The model man mused, eyes flashing your way.

You felt heat prickle at your cheeks.

“Taehyung, this is my girlfriend Y/N, Y/N this is Kim Taehyung. He’s head of our finance committee.” Jungkook introduced the two of you, causing your eyes to grow wide.

So this was the guy Jungkook had told you about. The guy who could help you throw your event.

Taehyung let out a scoff, “Seriously? That’s how you introduce me? The finance guy? I’m also your favorite brother, could’ve opened up with that one.”

“Taehyung’s my Big. He’s taken me under his wing or whatever.” Jungkook explained, running a hand through his dark hair.

A nervous giggle escaped you, taking Taehyung’s extended hand into yours to greet.

“Nice to finally meet you, Y/N. I’ve heard a lot about you.” The mulleted man grinned, causing one of your eyebrows to quirk up in surprise.

“You have?”

Taehyung put his hands up defensively, not noticing the way Jungkook’s expression had fallen beside him, “All good things, don’t worry. The kid talks about you nonstop—”

“Hey! So Y/N has been thinking about throwing an event here on campus, isn’t that right, babe?” Jungkook interrupted suddenly.

The arrival of the new pet name caught you off guard for a moment, before remembering that you and Jungkook were meant to be a couple after all.

“Oh yeah, Jungkook mentioned something like that to me. Tell me about it.” Taehyung said.

You stood silent for a moment, realizing that this moment was the one you had been anticipating all week long.

Relaxing your shoulders, you grinned at him.

It was now or never.

“Yeah! So the event is called STEM for FEM. I’ve got all kinds of games and pamphlets prepared. It’s basically meant to show girls that no matter what people think, there are in fact opportunities for us in the more traditionally male-dominated fields. It may be a steep road, but it’s one worth taking. And they’re not alone. There are programs out there that girls can reach out to. They offer all kinds of support; emotional, educational, financial—“

Jungkook reached for a cooler that sat by his feet, pulling out a beer. You didn’t need him for this. This was precisely what he had watched you practice into the mirror over and over; you were ready.

Popping open the can, he took a small sip, a small smile creeping on his face as he watched the way the fire in your eyes spread, your pretty lips wrapping around the words that you carried in your heart wherever you went.

“That’s radical, girl. It sounds like you’re really passionate about this stuff, huh?”

Jungkook caught Taehyung’s reply once he walked back over to you guys. He had gone off to make you a drink, figuring that cranberry juice and vodka would ease any sales pitch nerves you might have.

“Yeah, I am.” You smiled. “I’m a biology major myself.”

You tore your eyes away from the blond boy to take the red solo cup he was offering. Bringing the cup up to your nose, you sniffed it experimentally.

“Do you have a sponsor?”

You were grateful that you hadn’t taken a sip of your drink yet as had any liquid been inside your mouth you surely would have choked on it.

“Oh, uh! Not yet!” You squeaked out, causing Jungkook to fight down a chuckle.

“Because Beta Tau Sigma happens to be under our campus philanthropy quota and we’d love to support a cause like yours.” Taehyung offered, causing your heart to soar.

“Really?” You gaped.

“Sure! Just swing by anytime this week and I’m sure we can work out the details.”

This was happening. The event you had poured your absolute heart and soul into planning was actually going to happen… holy shit.

“Wow, that’s just… wow!” You replied, breathlessly. “Thank you! Thank you so much, seriously. I can’t even begin to thank you enough…”

Taehyung shook his head, clearly amused, “No need to thank me, it’s a worthy cause. Besides, think of it as a thank you.”

“A thank you? For what?”

“For dating my brother. You’re the reason he comes home every night grinning like an idiot after all.” He grinned cheesily.

A smile broke out onto your face despite yourself, but the good atmosphere didn’t last for long, as a hand finding yours caught your attention.

“Alright, alright, enough sappy shit.” Jungkook urged, cheeks tinted ever so slightly pink.

Much to the blushing boy’s chagrin, Taehyung reached over to rustle Jungkook’s long looks.

“I’m just teasing.” The blond laughed. “By the way, any chance you’ve seen Hobi?”

“No, why?”

“Dude is totally wasted. Heard someone say he was gonna jump off the roof into the pool.”

“The house doesn’t have a pool?” Jungkook blinked.

Taehyung flashed him a look as if to say ‘exactly.’

“Anyway, it was nice meeting you, Y/N. We’ll talk soon, yeah?” Taehyung asked.

“Absolutely.” You nodded.

“See ya later, man!” Taehyung called out through a crooked smile before slipping back into the crowd of people that lay just beyond the kitchen.

An excited squeal erupted from you, your hands reaching out towards Jungkook as he reciprocated your enthusiasm and embraced you in an elevated hug.

You let out a laugh, carefully holding onto the cup in your hand so as not to spill it before he set you back down.

“You did it!” He cheered.

“We did it.” You corrected.

“I didn’t do anything?” Jungkook looked at you in bewilderment.

You shook your head, “Not true. I would have never met Taehyung if it weren’t for you. Thank you, meathead.”

Jungkook looked at you warmly for a moment, knowing that despite the cruel nickname, your sincerity was genuine.

“Cheers, nerd. To a deal well done.” Jungkook said decidedly, holding out his beer.

Bumping your cup into his can, you took a swig of your drink, grimacing as the overwhelming taste of vodka made its way down your throat.

“Taehyung was awesome.” You began once you had downed a few more sips of the liquid poison. “I don’t know why I was expecting some ape-like barbarian.”

“Probably because of those gorillas you just saw over at the beer pong table.” Jungkook joked. “Yeah, Tae’s great. He’s a Legacy too, so everybody here loves him.”

You stared at him blankly, clearly not understanding the term.

Jungkook sighed, “I mean he comes from a long family of Beta Tau Sigma alumnae. His older brother Seokjin graduated last year—”

“Wait, Seokjin? You don’t mean… Kim Seokjin… our lab professor?” You furrowed your eyebrows.

“Yep.”

“No way! But he’s so…” Your eyebrows furrowed, struggling for the right word.

“Smart?” Jungkook assumed flatly.

You fought back a smile, “I was not gonna say that.”

“Mhm, I’m so sure.”

“Anyway,” You smiled, poking a finger into Jungkook’s chest, “I had no clue you liked me so much.”

“What do you mean?”

“You talk about me? I’m the reason you come home grinning every night?” You recalled Taehyung’s words.

You watched in amusement as Jungkook visibly tensed.

“W-Well, duh. You’re my fake girlfriend, I mean, it would be weird if I didn’t do any of those things...” Jungkook defended, eyes narrowing at you suddenly. “Quit gloating.”

“I’m not gloating.” You smirked.

“Yes, you are. I can see it in your face. You’re a gloater.” He said decidedly, moving to make himself a drink.

“How very dare you! I am nothing of the sort.”

“Admit it, Y/N. You relish in my misfortune.” He poured some cranberry juice into a cup, clearly moving to recreate your drink.

“The fact that I relish in your misfortune has nothing to do with this.” You waved off quickly, sending the two of you into giggles.

You somehow managed to down your cup, flashing Jungkook a grateful smile as he began to make you a new one.

You were admiring the way Jungkook’s shoulders filled out his jersey when another voice made itself known, pushing its way into the kitchen.

“Kookie, is that you?”

It was Kiri. The way Jungkook jerked around immediately, eyes as wide as saucers, told you that much.

Turning to where Jungkook’s eyes were fixated, you came to find a tall and leather-clad girl, her curled hair unmoving as she strutted forward. You couldn’t hear anything over the hum of the music playing throughout the house but you’d imagined you would hear the sound of her bright red heels rapping against the tile floor if it were quiet.

Her top was black and off the shoulder, and it dawned on you that she was dressed as Sandy from Grease.

You watched in silence as Jungkook nodded at her, a grin on his face.

“Haven’t seen you in a while. Thought you were avoiding me.” Kiri smirked, teeth on full display.

“Avoid you? Never.” Jungkook teased.

Suddenly, a weird feeling bubbled in your stomach as you watched the two interact.

Strange. Must be the vodka.

“I’ve just been busy, I guess.” He shrugged, clearly trying to play it coy.

At his words, Kiri’s eyes flickered to you, causing you to freeze.

“So I’ve heard.” She said simply. You smiled at her awkwardly.

Clearing his throat, Jungkook jumped into action, “Y/N meet Kiri. Kiri meet Y/N, my girlfriend.”

“Y/N L/N, right? I’ve been looking forward to meeting you.” Kiri admitted, eyes shaded with something you couldn’t quite decipher.

“You, uh, have?”

“Of course!” She smiled, although it didn’t quite meet her eyes. “I like to keep tabs on all the girls in Greek life… or I guess in your case, have had Greek life in them.

You blinked.

Jungkook eyes quickly moved to you. Crap. He knew Kiri well enough to detect a catty comment from her no matter how innocently she presented it. You were smart; he was sure you had caught exactly what she was implying.

For a moment, no one said anything. Jungkook gripped his cup tighter, wondering if he should say something to ease the nearly palpable tension.

However, before he got the chance, you smiled, cocking your head to the side.

“No worries, I get it. You wanted to scope out your ex’s new girlfriend, right?”

Jungkook let out a breath, realizing that you weren’t looking for any kind of conflict.

You could tell you words pleased Kiri with the way the side of her painted lips turned upward.

“So, Jungkook told you about me. How flattering.”

“Actually, he hasn’t said a word.” You smiled.

You took a step forward; it wasn’t anything aggressive or confrontational, but it was enough to capture Jungkook’s attention.

“Let’s just say I also like to keep tabs on things involving those that go inside of me.” You lowered your voice, sending Kiri a small wink.

Jungkook must know you pretty well too because he also knew that your comment wasn’t nearly as lighthearted as you made it out to be. He fought back a grin.

Kiri straighten up suddenly, “So what are you two dressed up as? A dumb jock and dirty Waldo?”

‘Well, she’s certainly not being subtle anymore.’ Jungkook thought dryly.

“Freddie Krueger and Glen Lantz. Like from Nightmare at Elm’s Street.” Jungkook answered, no longer bothering to uphold a pleasant tone.

“Is that so? I don’t watch horror movies.” Kiri shrugged.

“I know you don’t.” He reminded her.

“So did you come alone? Or is there a Danny Zuko somewhere that you’re matching with?” You asked casually, not liking the way your insides churned every time Jungkook and Kiri spoke to one another.

“He’s over there by the booth. He’s in charge of the music.” She replied, polished finger directing you where to look.

Sure enough, across the room on an elevated platform was a DJ booth, the man who was operating the device sporting a leather jacket and greased hair.

A gasp fell through your lips as you took him in, recognizing him immediately.

“That’s—” You cut yourself off immediately, turning away from him. “...so cool! Him being a DJ and whatnot.”

Kiri nodded cautiously, clearly catching on to the way you had changed your tune suddenly.

“You know what, I think Jungkook and I are gonna head over to the dance floor. But it was really great meeting you, Kiri.” You told her, reaching for Jungkook’s hand.

Your fake boyfriend sensed your urgency and took your hand comfortably.

“Nice seeing you.” Jungkook called out to her breezily as the two of you began to walk away, not bothering to give Kiri another glance.

Your heart was pounding but you tried your best to look nonchalant, knowing Kiri was probably watching the two of you leave.

As you reached the dance floor, you allowed yourself a sparing glance around to make sure that Kiri was out of ear’s reach before you wrapped your arms around Jungkook’s neck and began to sway your hips.

Bringing your mouth to his ear, you spoke, “Kiri is dating Eunwoo.”

Jungkook sent you a look, “Yeah. I know.”

You shook your head as Jungkook’s hands found your waist, keeping up with your pace.

“You don’t understand. Eunwoo is Yara’s ex.”

“Wait– Really?”

You nodded.

“Great. So he’s banged two of my girlfriends then. I swear to god, Y/N, if he tries to get into your pants next I’m gonna kick his ass into the next decade.” Jungkook grunted. You laughed.

“I just don’t understand. I swear he was in love with Yara just last week. He used to slip love notes under our door for her, you know. I even didn’t know he was in a frat?” You frowned.

“He’s a new member. He was just initiated a little while back. Fucking prick.”

That made sense. From what you had gathered tonight, everyone within Jungkook’s fraternity seemed quite friendly with one another— it didn’t make sense that an active member would betray Jungkook like that.

“You handled that very well, by the way.” Your pretend lover spoke suddenly.

“What? Kiri? Whatever, I’ve dealt with worse girls in high school.” You shrugged easily, hand finding itself running in Jungkook’s hair.

He had mentioned once that he needed a haircut but it seems as if you had successfully managed to talk him out of it. You like his hair like this.

“She was trying to use an intimidation technique that Gamma Alpha Tau uses on possible pledges.” He explained. “I promise you she’s not always that…”

“Snarky? Judgmental? Standoffish?” You offered, quirking up a brow.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, “I just mean she’s usually better behaved than that.”

“Right. Well, either way, this is a good sign.”

“What is?”

“Her hating me. Just means she’s jealous and then we’re one step closer to closing your half of the deal.” You enthused.

“Speaking of the deal, I believe you owe me a kiss, Freddie.”

Jungkook’s words took you by surprise and as much as you wanted to wipe that slick grin off his face, you knew he was right.

Humming, you let go of his hair, moving closer so that his nose was brushed up against yours.

“Your move, meathead.” You urged, letting your bottom lip brush against his teasingly.

Pressed up against him like this, you could feel a low rumble erupt in his chest.

“You teasing me?” He mused lazily.

“Didn’t you say you liked your pleasure with some pain?”

If Jungkook had a reply, you didn’t catch it in time as his mouth found yours, distracting you from any trivial thoughts weighing you down.

Something was intoxicating about the way Jungkook kissed you; he wasn’t rushed or in any hurry, but the way his mouth moved against yours made your chest pound as you brought your fingers up to pull at his hair.

Maybe it was the alcohol, perhaps it was the sound of Rick James in the air, but when his hand found your jaw and his tongue ran itself along your bottom lip you happily obligated, whimpering as his tongue moved against yours with the same fervor as the kiss you shared on your bed.

Jungkook was trying his hardest to hold back, he really was, but with the way your fingers pulled against his scalp, he felt himself start to grow greedily, grinding his hips against yours.

A whimper left your mouth and before you could make left from right, Jungkook broke the kiss and turned you around, pressing his chest into your back.

Heat rocketed to your face as you were suddenly reminded that you were in a room full of people, kissing Jungkook like this.

Your worries were soon eased as he began to press a trail of kisses down your neck, causing you to sigh.

“Wanna blow this popsicle stand? I’ve got a bottle of Malibu in my room with our name on it.” He murmured into your neck.

For a moment, you wondered if you should say no. If Jungkook kept touching you like this, especially with alcohol in your system, there was no guarantee what you’d do.

You let out a squeak as Jungkook’s tongue found your neck, the hot muscle dancing against your skin.

Letting your eyes roll over the room, you froze as they met a familiar pair.

Kiri was stood by the DJ Booth, eyes fixated on you two, her stare cold and unmoving.

Suddenly, a feeling came over you. It felt hot and not in the nice way Jungkook had been making you feel. You hardened your stare, holding her eyes. Was this why Jungkook kissed you? Did he know Kiri was watching?

Sensing the way you had tense against him, Jungkook pulled away from your neck.

“Something wrong?”

Fine. If Jungkook wanted to put on a show for her, then you were happy to assist.

Instead of replying, you turned your head and answered with your mouth, kissing him in a way you knew Kiri wouldn’t be able to ignore.

“Let’s get outta here.” You breathed as you broke the kiss.

Jungkook’s eyes were dark, eyelids low as a positively devilish smirk crept over him.

Following him as he lead you out of the room, you couldn’t help but glance behind you, the sides of your mouth curling up as you met Kiri’s glare once more.

Work Out: Chapter 1

“What in the pink Himalayan salt, is this shit?!”

The year barely started and I was already in deep with issues. With trying to open up my own gym; moving and trying to spend time with my friends, my soon to be ex husband just had to add more things to his side of the divorce settlement.

“Genevieve Leona. Language.” Her father had the chance to look over the new settlement that she has given, checking to see if there were any plausible loopholes.

Placing a gentle kiss on her father's graying cheek, she handed him a glass of water, before sitting across from him at the island.

“Sorry dad. But you of all people should know how difficult this is. You've handled cases harder than this.”

“Sweet pea, I get it. I do, but I need for you to calm down please?”

His hardworking hands were placed on top of my delicate one's, trying to ease my pain. Who knew that going through a divorce was so time consuming and dreadful.

“He just works my nerves. I’m glad I went with the prenup before hand, because he would've gotten half of my building space. Which I’m not having that.”

Opening my own space is a dream of mine, something I've always wanted since I was 12. Whether is was going to become a gym; a skating rink or a combination of both, I was going to have it. Jake knows about it too, but he doesn’t like seeing me succeed more than him.

“We’ll get this all straightened out soon enough. In the meantime, don’t work yourself up over this clown. Like ya mama says ‘he ain’t worth hella beans.’ She’s wise you know. Imma head on home, and we’ll talk more later.” A hearty chuckle escaped him, as he kissed my head before heading to his car, to make it home before the sunset.

“I know, I know. She was right about this one, maybe. Call me when you get home, pops. Ok?” Giving him one more goodbye kiss, I waved at him before making it back inside.

“Operation: Get Jake out of my Life, is a go. All I need is some wine and dancing. I know just who to call.”

Picking up the phone to dial the FaceTime group chat, I was greeted by the other two angels in my life.

“What’s up golden girls. Y’all busy this weekend?”

“Nah not really no. We could go out tonight, I just finished up the schedule for the upcoming comic con in July. Gotta have costumes on deck to win. Ryan and I are good to go, his work thing ain’t till Thursday right?

Destiny never stopped working, even after college she made sure her coin was on point.

“I’m free this weekend too. Yeah him and John have this medical convention Thursday, which I clocked it to be 15 min away, so we all good to tag along as a group. Whatcha have in mind?”

Cynthia, our resident spy, could never be too careful when it came to men she dated. But Johnny never gave her a reason to doubt him.

“Skate night at Roller Jam. I need to get loose for a few hours to some Cool & The Gang. Besides it’ll give y’all a chance to see ya girl get down on some wheels.”

Roller skating has been in my blood since I was in the womb. My parents met at a roller skating rink and they’ve been groovin ever since. I happen to be the captain of my own roller skating team called Roller Queens. Best team to ever roll into Staten Island.

“I can get down with that, be like old times.” Destiny agreed.

“Great times. Oh what about Mr. Tall, blonde and gorgeous? Have you talked to him lately?” Cynthia changed the subject.

“Ha ha. No I haven’t. But he has been blowing up my Instagram like crazy. I have replied a bit though, nothing too drastic. Some chicks  have been messaging me like ‘get away from him’; ‘he doesn’t want a hoe like you’ or ‘you’re not his type. Step off’ These little girls man, I’m telling you.”

It’s not like I don’t want Florian, I mean who doesn’t? Have you seen him lately? All jokes aside, I’m not looking for anything serious right now no way. I’m too busy trying to get my divorce finalized.

“We know you clapped them back. No time for the girls, this is grown woman ish.”

“What Dede said.” Cynthia chuckled a bit, candying is all to join in and I saw her man in the background. So I gave him a wave before looking at the time.

“Speaking of time, it’s getting late. I have to go get Leilani from the recording studio today since Lucas has their car and his game ran late. Plus Donny is on a date so, Older sister to the rescue.”

“We’ll see you at the rink Friday, ok?” Destiny said as she moved around the kitchen only for Ryan to say hi to me as well.

“Yeah. At like 5 ish, it’s late skate so it’s better. See y’all later. Mwha!” Sending then both my love and kisses, we hung up and went on about our business.

As I got ready to head downtown, I got a text from Michael saying he’s still in town for the next few weeks. That could only mean one thing: it was for business. Which also meant that Florian would be with him too. Maybe my week we starting to look up. I texted him what studio I’d be at, kill two birds with one stone.

Walking into the studio, I heard the smooth R&B sounds of Leilani’s voice through the speakers. This is where she’s always in her element, she turns everything out and puts her all into her vocals and practices. I couldn’t be more prouder of my siblings for going for their dreams.

“Good job little bird. Come out real quick would ya?” I smiled happily as she walked out the booth, proceeding to give me a hug in return.

“You really think I’m good? I know I need more practice, but I know I’m getting better day by day. How’s life going for you? Jake still being a little shit?” Leilani arched a brow, sitting in the chair across from me.

“As always. He added more “demands” to our divorce settlement, and I’m pretty sure I can’t meet them at all. So he’s stuck with his shit, and I keep mine.” I shrugged a tad, spinning in my chair and Leilani gave me a look.

“Well I hope he gets what he’s asking for cause all this is too much on me, and I ain’t even the one divorcing him. Let’s get your mind off of it, why don’t you go sing in the booth one time?” She suggested and the look turned into a smile.

“Me? In the booth? I haven’t done that in years Lei.” 6 years to be exact, but who's counting.

“That’s just it. Give it a shot and try it. That one song you were working on for the talent show, back home. What was it called?” She really wanted me to sing for her once. Anything for my sister I guess.

“My Love For You. It’s called My Love For You.”

“See?! Please sis? I want to hear you sang one time. I got Marcus here and we can cut it real fast. Nothing like a side hobby next to skating right? Please!” Leilani held my hands and gave me a puppy dog pout.

“Fine! Fine I’ll do it.” I broke down and earned a squeal from her, as I went into the booth. Putting on the headphones I saw Michael and  Florian walk in just in time.

“Oh snap, cuzzo going in the booth.” Michael received a hug from Leilani, before he introduced her Florian who was a smitten kitten over seen Geneva again.

“Yeah yeah. Mike, don’t distract me please I’m in my zone. And you brought Florian too. Now I gotta show out.” I shook my shoulders a bit, receiving some laughs from the group before getting the signal from Marcus.

“Yes I’m here too. Michael didn’t tell me you could sing. So I am interested even more now.” The smirk that etched his perfect face wasn’t helping the fact that he looked good in his red track suit. Jesus be a fence.

Did it get hot in here? The heat must be on cause my face was feeling warm, when he smirked at me. I can not lose myself over this man.

“I’m ok. Been a while but maybe it’ll all come back to me soon.”

With a slight nod, I opened my phone to the lyrics I had saved in my notes, and just went with the rhythm. I had to think of something that made me happy in order to do the song. At the time it was Jake but, now I just had myself.

The track started off and Leilani was already vibing to the beat. Michael was too, with Florian soon falling in line. Controlling my breathing, getting the hang of it all over again. Hearing the background vocals, I got into the groove.

Florian’s POV

“Man, I think she’s singing to you.” Michael lean over towards me, mumbling about something as a smirk appeared on my face.

“Maybe so. Remember the bet I told you about, that we set at the New Years party? I still have to prove myself to her a lot if I want to make this work.” I mentioned while leaning against the wall. Entranced by her voice.

“Yeah yall both told me about it actually. You think you can do it? I mean she’s pretty persistent with whom she dates. Last guy only lasted 3 weeks, on top of her on going divorce cause Jake plays too much.” Michael had informed me about her future ex husband and how much of a moocher he is. The faster he leaves, the better chance I have.

“Better me than him.” I knew i had to make a good impression on her at least, because she hasn’t been treated right in so long from what I’ve been told by her friends. Giving her my undivided attention, I know she felt the sudden shift in change.

Geneva’s POV

Whatever the boys were talking about must’ve been important, by the way there were engaged in the topic. Once Florian looked at me again I got back into the zone, hitting those notes.

“Oh shit, sis is snappin on the vocals.” I could hear Leilani through the cracked door with one headphone on my right ear. It felt good seeing her vibe to me singing, it was something we do growing up. To get that opportunity again was amazing. Florian kept smirking at me, with a sudden lovey look in his green-gold eyes. He was leaning by Marcus, on the soundboard just in tranced by everything. I gave it my all and even hit a high note in there.

Sending a wink in Florian’s direction, the game had started for us both. I had remembered that skate night was this weekend, the perfect opportunity to get this bet started. Coming out the booth feeling giddy about myself, I received a hug from my sister gaining my confidence over tenfold.

“You my dear, have a gift.” Florian took my hand and placed a kiss on top of it, trying to sway my way.

“Thanks. It’s one of my hidden talents, that I let you see without an ulterior motive.” with an arch in my brow, I gained a few laughs in the room. Looking him up and down, he eyed me too.

“You plan on giving me a show with your other talents, love?” He arched his brow as well, biting his bottom lip. Michael and Leilani were eating up the commentary.

Leilani took a picture of me for a split second, along with getting one of Florian with a shit eating grin on his face.

“Now yall both can either kiss already or do the first challenge. Am I right?” Mike reminded us both, setting the whole mood in motion.

“He’s right. Listen, this friday there’s a skate night at my old stomping grounds; Roller Jam in Staten Island. If you can skate to the beat, with some rhythm, I’ll go on a date with you.” crossing my arms across my chest, I felt confident in myself and always up for a challenge.

“Roller skating? You may have to help me out then. I’m tall enough but willing to learn.” Florian nodded in agreement and smiled genuinely at me. He handed me his phone to plug his number in, to set the game in motion and vice versa.

Sending the directions to the skating rink to him, I managed to take a picture of myself for the contact, and he did one for his in my phone. Before I left with my sister I set the tone of the challenge, standing on my tippy toes in my vermillion Nike Air Maxs, and placed a sweet kiss to his cheek. Looking into the reflective mirror on the wall I saw his cheeks turn red. His scent caught my senses, and it was intoxicating. He smelled like a warm fire and cocoa, something I wouldn't mind snuggling up against. Pulling away, I saw him look into my eyes for a split second, drawing me in but I had to be strong.

“Let the games begin, Munteanu.” With a gentle whisper against his ear, I grabbed my things and left him there speechless. Watching him watch me walk away with a sway in my hips.

“Let the games begin indeed, Shaw.” he was biting his plump bottom and giving me a once over one last time.

“You got it bad for my cousin bro. Let’s just hope for your sake, Jake doesn't come around and try to win her back.” I heard my cousin say to Florian as they left as well.

“I’d like to seem him try. I never lose.” the confidence in his voice stirred something in me, awakened the desire in me to finally be happy.

If Jake thinks he can mess up my fun, well he’s got another thing coming.

A/N: I genuinely think this is awful so I’m so sorry if it is.

Balancing Nancy on your hip, you turned to face your brother as you awaited the arrival of your siblings, aunt and cousin at the front door. You could tell Tommy was nervous, and he had every right to be. Being honest, you weren’t sure how the family dinner was going to pan out, but you hoped for everyone’s sake no bad blood was brought up at the table.

Straightening your brothers tie with one hand, you gave him a reassuring smile. “It’ll be alright, Tom. They must forgive you to some extent to accept the invite, eh?”

Tommy nodded, giving you a small smile in response. He was silent, and that was never a good sign for Thomas, and showed you how nervous he really was. A knock of the door made a wave of nerves shoot through you, before you took a deep breath and opened it, greeted with your oldest sibling first. “Arthur!”

Arthur enveloped you into a hug, giving Nancy a kiss on the head. “Lovely to see you, Mabel. Look how much she’s grown, looking just like you she is.” He gave you a smile, before his eyes fell on Tommy, swallowing hard. “Tom.” He nodded his head in greeting.

You turned to give Tommy a pointed look, as if to say, make some fucking conversation. As you turned to greet Linda, you heard the brothers start to chatter behind you, reassuring you the slightest bit. “Hello, Linda.”

Linda only glared at you before pushing past you to get to Arthur, making you raise your eyebrows at her as she walked away. Ever since Arthur had brought her round yours to meet you, you didn’t get on with her. There was just something about her that didn’t click with you, but you chose to be civil for your brothers sake.

You exchanged a hug with Michael and Polly as they made their way past you to greet Thomas. Before you could even recognise who it was, two arms pulled you into a bear hug, but you knew it could only be one person.

“Ain’t half missed my big sister,” John said, kissing your cheek and giving you a cheeky grin, before kissing the infant in your arms’ head. “Don’t seem five minutes since she was being born, Mabel.”

“It’s flying by, Johnny. She’s getting bigger every day, I can barely keep up.” You smiled at your younger brother, before looking behind him and spotting Esme, who gave you a hug. “Lovely to see you, Esme.”

“And you, Mabel”. Esme smiled, beginning to fuss over Nancy in your arms. You liked Esme, the both of you being incredibly firery made you click, and you’d gotten on with her from the very first time you spoke to her at the wedding reception.

John and Esme made their way towards the rest of the family, Ada, Finn and Karl being the last ones in. Hugging your sister and youngest brother, you walked with them to the dining room where everyone was beginning to take their seats.

The table was set ready, and the nanny took Nancy from you for her afternoon sleep. You decided to sit between Ada and Esme, opposite Linda and Arthur. Tommy was at the head of the table, near Polly, Michael and Finn. Not long after everyone had taken their seats, Johnny Dogs arrived with a few of the Lee’s and Mary the maid also took her seat.

With Ada and Esme both chatting to other people, you found yourself looking opposite you, trying to make conversation with Linda. “So, hows the baby Linda?”

“Fine.” Linda replied curtly, looking at you up and down. She was silent for a moment, before pursing her lips and beginning to speak again. “You forgave your brother rather quickly, how much did he give you?”

You stared at her, and you heard the chatter around you begin to quieten at the mention of that. “It’s Christmas, we’re not talking about that.” You couldn’t quite believe the blonde woman’s nerve, the fact that she thought Tommy would stoop so low to pay you to forgive him. If it wasn’t for Tommy looking out for you and putting a roof over your head, you wouldn’t even like to think where you’d be.

“You should start using your married surname, a traitor doesn’t deserve the Shelby name, surely?”

The room fell silent as soon as the words left her mouth, and out of the corner of your eye you could see Tommy, jaw set, and ready to intervene if things got too out of hand.

Shooting out of your chair, you leaned across the table, face inches away from Linda’s as your eyes bore into hers. Silverware clattered to the floor at the sudden movement, your fist full with the collar of Linda’s dress. Your voice was dangerously calm as you spoke, and nobody, not even Arthur, dared move. “I may be many things, Linda, but a traitor isn’t one of them. If you ever, ever, dare to say such things again, you will never sit at this table again. Do you understand?”

Maintaining icy eye contact for a moment longer, you slowly withdrew and stood straight, swallowing hard before eyeing the rest of your family, shock on their faces. “I’m going for a smoke.” You mumbled, before quickly walking out of the dining room, down the hallway and out of the front doors, cigarette and lighter ready in your hand. Lighting it with shaky hands, you took a long drag, silver trails forming on your rosy cheeks from shedding tears.

In the dining room, Ada stood, set on going to comfort you, but Polly pulled her back down to her seat. “Leave her be, Ada. You know she’s just like her brothers when she’s pissed off.” She chided, sparing a glance at Linda, who obviously had no remorse. “You’re lucky she only gave you a talking to. Last person who pissed her off that much got two back eyes and a hospital stay for a week.”

After the first cigarette was finished, you fished around in your dress pocket for another, lighting it and sticking it between your rouged lips again. A presence beside you pulled you out of your thoughts, and you turned to see the unknown male. If anyone, you were expecting it to be Tommy.

This man was young, dark haired with a chefs uniform on. Surely, he should’ve been cooking the dinner? Eyeing him cautiously, you took a drag of your cigarette before speaking, smoke still between your lips. “Shouldn’t you be dishing up lunch?”

In one swift movement, before you could comprehend, the man had a gun to your forehead, the cold metal causing you to shiver. “Haven’t got anything smart to say?” He growled, pushing the barrel harder against you, causing you to involuntarily wince.

“Fuck off,” you growled, the familiar feeling of anger and adrenaline filling your veins. Admittedly, you hadn’t been in a situation like this since before you were imprisoned, but the argument with Linda already had you at the end of your tether, for the first time in a long time.

In a moment of quick thinking, you grabbed the cigarette from between your lips and pushed it against the chef’s neck, causing him to shout out, and lower his gun, giving you time to swiftly jab your knee in his stomach. “Tom! Arthur! John!” You shouted, praying it was loud enough for them to hear through the thin glass windows in the dining room.

Hoping to buy yourself time, you tried to land another kick to the man’s stomach but he caught your leg, making you fall backwards onto the hard gravel driveway. As you tried to get up, he proved to be faster than you as he grabbed the collar of your dress, pulling your face towards him, barrel of his gun pushing against your stomach. “Gypsy scum.”

“Mabel!” Tommy shouted as he stalked down the hallway, John and Arthur in tow. You sighed a breath of relief at the sound of your brothers voice, head turning to meet the Italian in front of you again. His eyes were wild, evil, and seemed to turn darker as soon as he heard Thomas’ voice. Without missing a beat, he pulled the trigger, letting you fall to the floor with a scream before he fled the grounds, seconds before Tommy arrived.

As soon as Thomas heard the gunshot, he ran. He ran as fast as he could, fear and anger coursing through his veins. When he got to the door, he spotted you on the ground and skidded over to you, falling to his knees at your side as he lifted you into his arms, sighing with relief when you turned your head to look up at him. “The chef - Tom -“

Your voice was nothing but a hoarse whisper, gasping when your brother began to put pressure on your wound. Your eyes were hazy, but you’d never seen your brother look this terrified. He hushed you softly, clearing his throat. “Don’t worry about that, eh? You’ll be alright.”

“What’s going on Tom?” Arthur’s voice rung out behind him, before he noticed you on the ground, and he turned. “Who the fuck did this? Where the fuck are they?”

Tommy turned to Arthur, shaking his head. “I don’t give a shit who done it Arthur, just get a fucking ambulance! Now! Go on!” He screamed at his brother, before turning back to you, eyes lulling as the pain began to get so much it became numb. “You’ve got to stay awake, eh? Look at me, Mabel.” His voice was small, his hands and crisp white shirt now painted red.

“I’m tired, Tom.” You whispered, hand gripping the one that was putting pressure on your wound. Having no concept of time, you had no idea how long it took for the Ambulance to arrive before stars began to cloud your vision, the shouts and pleads is your brother being the last thing you heard before sleep pulled you into its grasp.

Alex loses it the moment Michael is gone. He sinks right back down onto the edge of the bed, his head in his hands and he weeps. He weeps for all the unspoken words he thought while Michael was there, for every touch between them, for the fact that it felt like making love when it was just a business transaction. When he can no longer stay upright he curls up on his side and buries his face in a pillow

For the better part of an hour Alex cries until he’s sobbing dryly against the pillow and falls into a dreamless and restless sleep.

When he wakes he takes stock of his surroundings. He hasn’t forgotten where he is, but it doesn’t feel quite real. The only thing to prove Michael had been there is the empty second glass on the table and the smell of his cologne on the sheets. That and the fact that Alex is now several hundred dollars lighter.

He runs his hand over his face, scrubbing at it, then runs it through his hair. He can’t regret what happened with Michael, he would definitely do it all over again. No he regrets everything else. Like ten years of silence and distance between them. Like everything he should have said but didn’t. When it had come right down to it, Alex hesitated because Michael was the one that said nothing had to change. He was there for one thing and Alex had gone along with that.

Now he has to live with the consequences. If there was even a small part of him that thought he might have sought Michael out after he got home, it was squashed now. He was Michael’s client and that was all.

Alex got up and went to the little bathroom, flicked the light on, and caught sight of his reflection in the mirror. He looked like hell. So he looked away quickly and turned on the shower. He needed to clean off the scent of Michael so he could leave this place and go home. It didn’t matter that it was still the middle of the night.

He ran the shower hot and scrubbed at his skin until it was red and just shy of raw. It hurt. He hurt. All over and not in a good way. His body already missed the gentle touch of Michael’s hands, but his heart was broken.

The drive home in the dark felt long. He turned on the radio but after a few minutes of switching channels, he turned it back off again. His mind was racing and he was doing his best to not think about the past. About the first time Guerin kissed him or the first time they were together, the last time they were together before this time. It was too much for one person to handle but it wasn’t like he was going to call any of his friends in the middle of the night.

When he finally gets home he goes to plug in his phone and finds he has a message from his father. He doesn’t listen to it. The last thing he needs tonight is to hear his father’s voice. Instead he goes straight to bed, pulls off his clothes and his leg and climbs into bed to try and sleep some more.

Sleep is a fickle thing but eventually he uses the technique he learned in the Air Force to clear his mind and sleep under stressful conditions and it works. He’s out before he knows it.

He’s up with the dawn just a few short hours later. It’s habit, he wakes before the alarm on his phone goes off. Alex rolls over and glares at the light coming in through the window. There’s nothing for it. It doesn’t matter if he still feels like he was hit with a Mack truck, he’s awake now so he rolls upward and finds his prosthetic before heading to the kitchen for some breakfast.

Breakfast flies by and Alex is left looking at his phone wondering what his dad wants. He’s still not ready to hear it. He had two days off from desk duty as it was so he should be able to get a break from the man. Even if it’s only a small break.

By noon Alex is ansty though. He needs something to do, someone to talk to and his first idea might not be the best one since he’s got mixed feelings about the night before. Still he heads to the Wild Piony to see if Maria is in yet and to get her opinion on the whole mess he finds himself in now.

The wild pony parking lot is empty save for one truck, Maria’s. He pushes through the door leaning just a little heavier than usual on his cane thanks to last nights extracurricular activities, and makes a beeline for the bar.

“We’re closed!” Maria calls before she can see him, but when she does her face blanks out. “What happened to you?” She asks, worried.

“You won’t believe me when I tell you.” He starts, sliding onto a stool in front of the bar and leaning his can against it.

“You got laid last night and that’s not necessarily a good thing. Or is it?” Maria asks.

“I don’t know either, you tell me.” Alex says.

Maria leans across the bar and takes his hand. “Someone special from your past. Oh! Museum guy? Is that it? You ran into him again, didn’t you?”

Alex closes his eyes briefly before opening them and looking at her. “Museum guy.” He admits.

“So, are you going to tell me who he is or do I have to guess?” Maria asks him.

“You’d never guess in a million years.” Alex tells her. He takes a deep breath while Maria waits.

“It’s not like it’s someone gross or shameful like Wyatt Long or Michael Guerin.” She says.

Alex hangs his head. Could this be any worse? “It’s not Wyatt Long.” He agrees.

Maria’s eyes go wide. “Guerin? Michael Guerin is museum guy? And you slept with him last night? Wait, I thought you were using that escort service I sent you to?”

And before Alex can even get the words out she gasps. “Exactly.” He says by way of answer.

“Are you going to see him again?” Maria asks, cutting straight to the heart of the matter.

“I don’t know. I want to, but I don’t know if I can handle it being like that between us. I think there was some part of me that thought I would see him once I got home and maybe, maybe…” Alex’s voice trails off. “Last night was perfect, but then I had to pay him and it nearly broke me. I’m not sure I can face that again.

“So why don’t you go talk to him about it. He’s probably got things he needs to say too.” Maria tries, but Alex shakes his head. “Okay, how about a drink then and we can talk about anything else you want.”

Alex accepts a bloody mary since it’s still so early and Maria joins him. They talk about how much fun desk duty isn’t and how being back under his dad is wreaking havoc on his self esteem and Maria talks about her mom and how bad things have gotten. By the time Alex leaves he’s feeling much better. And maybe just a little bit like he’s overreacted. It doesn’t have to be so complicated unless he lets it be that way.

He can see Michael again if he wants to, he knows how. Of course two bloody mary’s might be affecting his bravery just a tiny bit, but he doesn’t think so. He thinks it’s his best bet really. Much better than Maria’s suggestion of trying to talk to Michael. After all Michael had made himself very clear when they were together. They could have that much but it had to be business.

So when he gets home he pulls up his email and types one out to “Johnny”.

I’d like to meet again, if that works for you. Let me know. I have a couple of ideas.

Danai Gurira, Julia Roberts, Carol Burnett, Emily Blunt, Lupita Nyong’o, Patricia Clarkson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jameela Jamil, Rosamund Pike, Jim Carrey, Alison Brie, Gemma Chan and Bradley Cooper. Worst dressed goes to Rachel Weisz, Julianne Moore, Layra Dern, Anne Hathaway, Maya Rudolph, Rami Mlek, Molly Sims and Heidi Klum. I was so happy for winners like The Americans (highlight of the evening!!!), Regina King, Lady Gaga, Mahershala Ali, Patricia Clarkson, Darren Criss, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek, Olivia Colman and Green Book.  The Cecil B. DeMille award went to Jeff Bridges. The new Carol Burnett award started off with Carol herself. I was saddened that Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, Kieran Culkin, Keri Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen went home empty handed. The Fiji water girl got most of the press and gave much free advertising to her product.  Some of the stars did not like her getting in their shots to push a product without their knowledge, both a clever and sad state of affairs.

***** The Sag awards had their big night and gave the lifetime achievement to Alan Alda. Winners included Emily Blunt, Darren Criss, Black Panther, Rami Malek and Glenn Close. I was especially thrilled with some love goingto Jason Bateman and Patricia Arquette. Best dressed were Amy Adams, Yara Shahidi, Brian Tyree Henry, Sydelle Noel, Eddie Griffin, Holly Taylor, Sofia Hubitz, Emma Stone, Emily Blunt, Darren Criss, Laverne Cox, Timothee Chalamet, Robin Wright, Lily Tomlin, Chadwick Boseman, Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell, and Catherine Zeta Jones. The WTF award goes to Alison Brie.

***** The Oscar race is on. Best picture could go to Blank Panther, Blackkklansman, Roma, The Favourite, Green Book, Vice, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is born. Black Panther also got some love for music and costume design.  Fingers crossed for Isle of Dogs in the animated category. Actor nods had a few surprises. Willem Dafoe and Rami Malek , Lady Gaga and Melissa McCarthy are up for leads and supporting mentions are for Mahershala Ali, Regina King, Adam Driver and Sam Elliott. I am so hopeful for Spike Lee and I want to hear that speech.

***** There is controversy over the bill to give people a day off for Election Day. Many people will still have to work, the country never completely shuts down. How many fucking times do I have to say it: VOTE BY MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!

***** So, Scary clown told us Mexico would pay for ‘the wall’. During the campaign he gave actual ideas for that like Mexico giving us a one time payout or else he would not allow Mexican immigrants to western union money back to Mexico. Another idea was that there would be a great ta on that Western union money. It does not seem like they tried any of that and just decided we would pay for the stupid ‘wall.’ How about the money he makes off Trump merch which his website and hotels still sell to pay for it?? How about the $35 million that Trump sold in real estate in 2018? The ‘Wall’ go fund me did not reach its $1billion goal so the $20 million they did collect is being offered for refunds. Some of those people still want that money to go for its purpose so Trump is creating a non- profit. Can’t we use that money to help the border patrol agents and get the backlog in immigration court moving?? That we are still talking about this ridiculous wall and that it had a go fund me page is enough to boggle the normal brain.** I think Kimmel said it best when he suggested that Trump just tell the red hats that the wall has been built.  They believe everything he says so why wouldn’t they believe that??  It would save the country a lot of headaches. ** What the Hell is with his new “wheels and walls” mantra??** Russia caused Brexit too? Putin is a menace.** Another sink hole appeared the White House. WTF?

***** Roger Stone has been indicted on 5 counts of false statements, 1 count of obstruction and 1 count of witness tampering. The FBI officers who arrested him were part of the shut down and they still did their job!!  He publically and privately claimed to have communicated with Russia. ***** Empire star Jussie Smollett was attacked in Chicago in what cops are saying was a possible hate crime. The attackers were yelling that this was MAGA country, poured bleach on him and put a rope around his neck.  The actor was previously sent a letter full of homophobic and racist slurs which he FBI had been looking into.

***** Ellen page gave us some memorable, powerful words to chew on with her appearance on Stephen Colbert. I am sure she gave courage to many who suffer because of our hate filled administration.

***** I gain more and more respect for Seth Meyers. I did not really understand the choice of him as host in the beginning. His notice of local stations, choice of guests and revolving drummers makes for a great show.

***** I know that is has happened little by little and we go thru times in our history when things get worse and then things get better but… When did this country get so fucking corrupt?? I mean seriously.. Why is Brendan Dassey still in prison and why is there no real justice for Teresa Halbach? ** Why is Trump still in the White House?**Why are government workers being told to work for nothing?? Why is R Kelly still living it up?? Why are some states going backward in time when it comes to women’s health?? Why do many corporations care more about their own pockets than the children of their employees or the environment around them??** Why does our justice system so often punish big for small infractions and allow the powerful to do anything they want?? **Why is a wall a better idea than infrastructure or warm beds for the homeless or food for our children and why are so many children in cages??

Why do so many selfish humans actually fight to live in a world where they actively hold others back? Shouldn’t we all be concerned about the greater good?  We should all be allowed to see a Doctor when we are ill. We should all be able to excel in education if we choose .We should all be able to get a job to fit our skills and work ethic.  Opportunities and the pursuit of happiness should be available to all. Why is this so fucking hard for so many to grasp in this world? Imagine!

Have you seen the show? If you have - would you mind writing down what happens like the full thing with spoilers, please? I'm really curious about it but I can't seem to understand all that happens from the Papermill audio I have.

i’ll do my best! firstly — there have been quite a few changes between paper mill and broadway, but i’m going to talk about the broadway version since it’s the most current. i’m not going to go into huge detail on every scene, mostly because that would get really long, but i’ll try to explain (my interpretation of) the main story as best i can.

behind a cut because of all the spoilers. super spoilery. you have been warned!

act one.it starts with a prologue, flashing back to the war, an echo of the story donny tells julia about michael’s death in act 2. and then it’s 1945, cleveland, donny is coming home from the war, and everyone is saying that life will be just like it was before, except he can’t sleep, he drinks, he has terrible memories—and despite all of his talent, he can’t get a decent gig, not even at the clubs he was playing in his teens. but he hears about a “tribute to the troops” swing band radio contest hosted by nbc/mgm, where the winners will get to be in a movie. because it’s about the troops, and he’s a veteran, he decides to put together a band of other vets: jimmy (sax; navy, his ship exploded and he was in the water with his dead friends), davy (bass; army, liberated dachau and is an alcoholic because of it), nick (trumpet; was a pow and has huge anger issues), wayne (trombone; marines, has mental health issues/probably ocd), and johnny (drums; was hit by a shell leaving him with severe amnesia, chronic pain, and cognitive problems).

donny also promised michael that he’d look in on his wife if anything happened to him, so he finally works up the courage to visit julia, who invites him for dinner so they can look at some photos of michael from the war. he hears julia sing in church and invites her to sing with the band — first as a guest appearance, then as backup/duets (because she’s a gold star widow, it doesn’t ruin his all-vets gimmick). julia shows donny some poems she wrote in the time after michael’s death, and donny sets one of them to music, love will come and find me again. she agrees to let this be their song for the state-wide contest, which is being held in cleveland.

they win the contest for ohio, which should guarantee them a spot in the new york final. however, it’s not as easy as that; not only will they be forced to participate in ANOTHER preliminary in new york, they have to pay for everything themselves, and call nbc in advance to tell them they’ll be there — because nbc care more about selling the product they’re sponsored by than the contestants. obviously, this is very upsetting for donny & the band, they get pissed off, and the act 1 finale, right this way, is donny deciding that this isn’t going to stop them, they’ve been through too much, and they’re going to find a way to raise the money so they can go first class, because they deserve it after everything.

act two.the first part of act 2 is primarily taken up with them trying to raise enough money to go to new york first class, and stay at a fancy hotel; they’re playing gigs almost constantly, donny and julia come up with a song about cleveland, i got a theory, to raise more, and they’re still nowhere near their total, but donny refuses to let them go any other way than first class, because it’d be letting them & michael down. julia finally grows tired of waiting and pushes donny into telling her how michael died — it was a friendly fire incident, where the conditions were awful, donny accidentally dropped a grenade, told michael to get out of the trench, and the grenade went off; he thought michael had gotten out, but he hadn’t. julia is (understandably) upset by this and doesn’t show up for a gig, leaving the guys to perform alone and them all to wonder if new york is even gonna happen now.

but julia forgives donny, writing a poem about how the war has affected all the guys in the band. donny sets this to music, but it’s so personal and real that they can’t perform it, so she rewrites it into the first welcome home, about a guy returning home from war to his girl. during this time, all the cleveland clubs have been raising money for the band (i assume one of the owners overheard the guys talking about money, though i’m not sure), and have bought them first class train tickets and rooms at the astor, so they can go to new york in style. after a night out in nyc, donny and julia have what would traditionally be the “kiss” moment, except they talk about the fact that this is life, not a movie, so they don’t kiss.

at the studios, they pass the prelim so they can perform on the main show, but jimmy (who is studying law) reads the contracts and discovers at the last minute that nbc/mgm are trying to screw them over. like, literally the last minute; they’re on in 2 more numbers. if they perform love will come and find me again, mgm will own the song outright, they’re only obligated to use the band as walk-ons, and if the band ever wants to perform the song again, they have to pay mgm royalties. for their own song. yep. so the band is upset, and in the end donny decides that they need to slap the contest people in the face: perform a song they’d never dare to put on the big screen, to show everybody listening what it’s really like to be a veteran (that it’s not just like it was before). there’s a this is life reprise here, which talks about how this will take guts but it’s worth it, and also where donny tells julia that he’s madly in love with her, and then they have their Big Kiss moment.

so the band perform the original welcome home, the painful one about what each of the guys goes through every goddamn day, and obviously they don’t win the contest — which is a good thing too because the film sucks, and the end of the show is basically the band talking about how bad the movie is, and then there’s a finale which wasn’t in paper mill, a reprise of nobody. the band now has a “newest record”, which implies they’ve got a record deal, they’re on an international tour, and they still play a lot of gigs at home in cleveland.

 What a classic Canadian winter we're having right now. It was bitterly cold but sunny yesterday so I went for a walk around the boundary of our neighbourhood. I walked out to Bank Street, turned south to go to Alta Vista Drive, turned north-east to go to Heron Road, turned west to go back to Bank Street again and then up Portland Avenue and home. It was very invigorating. More snow is forecast and Ottawa may break its all time record for the amount of snow fallen in January. Thank Thor I don't have to shovel all of it.

 What a great week for outstanding art. My eyes couldn't believe the work it was relishing with every comic book that I read. I generally choose the comic books that I want to read based on who writes it. When I flip through a new book that has nice art I will give it a try even though I don't recognise the writer's name. I do get disappointed when a writer I like is drawn by an artist that doesn't appeal to me, but I will continue to read the book. But if the story doesn't appeal to me even with beautiful art, I can't continue to read that comic. Monstress is a good example. I was surprised many times with the art this week. I haven't felt this happy after reading a pile of comic books in a long time.

 Man Without Fear #4 - Jed MacKay (writer) Paolo Villanelli (art) Andres Mossa (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime and still Mayor of New York City, pays a visit to Matt in the hospital. The biggest point that this issue makes is that Daredevil's secret identity is intact. When the Kingpin became mayor I thought the idea was ludicrous. Now not so much.

 Hardcore #2 - Andy Diggle (writer) Alessandro Vitti (art) Adriano Lucas (colours) Thomas Mauer (letters). This issue of an impossible mission is action-packed. Agent Drake is trapped but good. I love this crazy off the wall stuff.

 Superior Spider-Man #2 - Christos Gage (writer) Mike Hawthorne (pencils) Wade von Grawbadger with Victor Olazaba (inks) Jordie Bellaire (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). So why is Terrax terrorizing Earth again? Because he wants to rule the entire planet. Hey, why not. Otto makes a valiant effort to beat the cosmically powered villain but all seems lost until his ex-girlfriend comes to the rescue. I like how Otto uses his brain to augment brawn when he fights bad guys.

 The Immortal Hulk #12 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (main story pencils) Ruy Jose (main story inks) Eric Nguyen (flashbacks art) Paul Mounts (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). We are introduced to another side of the Hulk while he's in Hell. When the Hulk first hit the racks, he was just this big monster being pursued by the army. All he wanted was to be left alone but General Ross kept hounding him. Ever since they added multiple personalities to this character, he's become far more interesting. This story takes a serious look at Satan and what the devil means to mankind. A surprisingly mature theme for a super hero comic book.

 Cover #5 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) David Mack (art) Michael Avon Oeming (Owen art) Zu Orzu (colours) Carlos Mangual (letters). A comic book artists traveling around the world attending comic book conventions is an excellent cover for a spy. It's much more interesting because Max the artist is constantly out of his depth.

 The Avante-Guards #1 - Carly Usdin (writer) Noah Hayes (art) Rebecca Nalty (colours) Ed Dukeshire (letters). I liked the art in this when I flipped through it so I pulled it off the rack to read. I'm glad I did. This is a slice-of-life comic book starring Charlene "Charlie" Bravo, a freshman at an arts college. She's a loner who I took a liking to after reading this first issue. Charlie meets perky go-getter Olivia who is trying to form a basketball team to play against other art colleges. I'm going to stick around to see if this southpaw joins the team. I really like the clever title of this book too.

 Guardians of the Galaxy #1 - Donny Cates (writer) Geoff Shaw (art) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Now see? This here is a new Marvel #1 that's worthy of being bought off the rack. It's a sequel to "Infinity Wars", which didn't hold my attention, and introduces the new team. Seems like the old team broke up during "Infinity Wars". If the new team isn't enough to get you hooked on this 6-issue story, then their first mission will. They have to stop the resurrection of Thanos. Y'see, the Mad Titan was killed in "Infinity Wars". There's guest stars galore and the one on the last page is another reason I want to keep reading. And wait until you see how Groot has changed. I haven't felt this excited after reading a Marvel #1 in some time.

 Oliver #1 - Gary Whitta (writer) Darick Robertson (art) Diego Rodriguez (colours) Simon Bowland (letters). It's been a while since we've seen Darick Robertson's art on the racks. His work on "The Boys" made that series a highlight issue after issue. I think his work in this post apocalyptic story based in London, England is some of his best. Oliver is born into this hell hole but he grows up fast. There's a genetic mystery that's got me interested but it's the art that will keep me reading.

 Blossoms 666 #1 - Cullen Bunn (writer) Laura Braga (art) Matt Herms (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). This new Archie Horror book should tide you over while you're waiting for the next Sabrina book to hit the racks. I know that the new Blossom twins have been recast as villains and this will show you how dark they've gotten. If the number of the beast isn't a hint, wait until you see what Cheryl is up to on the last page.

 Naomi #1 - Brian Michael Bendis & David F. Walker (writers) Jamal Campbell (art) Josh Reed (letters). Have you given up on Riri Williams/Ironheart? I haven't yet, but it's not the same without Brian Michael Bendis writing her adventures. Well, if you're looking for a comic book just as cool and eye-popping gorgeous, please give this new DC/Wonder Comics a look see. It's very difficult to get a brand new character onto the racks that will get me jazzed but Brian has done it here. Superman makes a cameo but this is all about a troubled teen growing up in a small town. I can't wait to find out more about Naomi's mysterious past. Jamal Campbell's pretty art is a huge bonus.

 Shazam #2 - Geoff Johns (writer) Marco Santucci (art) Mike Atiyeh (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). The big surprise at the end of the first issue gets a cursory two page mention before we join the Shazam siblings back in the grand central station of the Magiclands. There are seven lands to explore and Funland seems to be safe. Meanwhile, we get our first look at Mr. Mind and as an added bonus, his origin story. The art in this issue is really nice and we are left with another new character on the last page that makes me want to keep reading. King Kid, ruler of Funland: good or evil?

 Avengers #13 - Jason Aaron (writer) Andrea Sorrentino (art) Justin Ponsor & Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This is the origin story of Fan Fei, the very first Iron Fist from one million years BC. She deserves her own mini series by these guys. Andrea Sorrentino's art impressed me immensely when he did Green Arrow with Jeff Lemire and I think he's gotten better since. His stuff in here reminded me of Frank Quitely. It sure is pretty.

 Batman #63 - Tom King (writer) Mikel Janin (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). Knightmares part 3. Batman is trapped in a dream with Constantine. If the second hand smoke doesn't drive you crazy, the dream will. This look into Batman's psyche reminds me of the time he was captured during the Court of Owls story. It was nice to see Tom explore what might have happened if the Cat and the Bat got married.

 Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2 - Tom Taylor (writer) Juann Cabal (art) Nolan Woodard (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). This isn't just friendly, it's amazing and spectacular. I haven't felt this much joy reading a Spider-Man/Peter Parker story since Brian Michael Bendis was writing Miles Morales/Spider-Man stories. The scene with the kids and Johnny Storm was cute. I like how Mayor Fisk's cameo establishes when this story happens. The cherry on top was the last page introducing a new character named The Rumor that made me giggle with glee. I can't wait to read #3.

Yankees have five big decisions to make heading into 2018

HOUSTON — It’s over.

The Yankees 2017 season came to a disappointing end in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Astros, but the future looks bright. And the groundwork has been set for what could potentially be a sustained run of success.

Still, there are a few significant questions that need to be answered for 2018:

Will Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi be back?

The GM and manager are both in the final years of their respective deals, and both seem like locks to at least be asked to return. Cashman seems lock a lock to come back given that he rebuilt the roster in a hurry, allowing the Bombers to be way ahead of schedule. It features a homegrown core, and a strong farm system.

Girardi is more of a question mark, given rumblings that the family man may want to walk away after a decade at the helm, including his 2009 World Series championship. Still, regardless the criticism over his reliance on data over feel, several young players have taken massive strides forward, and he could be walking away from a potential dynasty in the making. His postseason talk with his family will be significant in determining his future.

Will Masahiro Tanaka opt out?

It is, obviously, a three-year, $67 million question that has gotten more complicated given Tanaka’s incredible run in the playoffs, where he posted a marvelous 0.90 ERA after posting a miserable 4.74 ERA in the regular season. Still, Tanaka has been pitching with a partial tear in his UCL since 2014, granted he’s been very durable ever since. Tanaka enjoys playing in New York, which could factor into his decision, as could a very mediocre free-agent pitching market outside of Yu Darvish and Johnny Cueto.

Given that the Bombers want to get under the $197 million luxury-tax threshold in advance of the loaded 2019 free-agent class, they may elect to let Tanaka walk rather than risking paying him extra given his injury history. The 2018 rotation will presumably already include Luis Severino, Sonny Gray and Jordan Montgomery. And it’s plausible that the Yankees will try to keep CC Sabathia on a one-year deal, though it also stands to reason that money could be tight. Chance Adams, 23, was named the organization’s pitching prospect of the year, and could potentially factor into the mix as well.

Will the Yankees be able to recruit Shohei Ohtani?

He’s 23, he can pitch and hit, and, because of free-agency rules, he’d come extremely cheap relative to his real worth. That’s why the luxury-tax conscious Bombers need to wow him in what is essentially a college-like recruiting process. No financial advantage this time.

Ohtani would be extremely valuable as he could slot in at DH when he isn’t pitching, essentially one player filling two roster spots. Sounds like a guy that could sell some tickets, too. Expect the Yankees to make a serious run at Ohtani, with several other powers like the Dodgers, Cubs and Red Sox in the mix as well.

Where does Gleyber Torres fit in?

At second? At third? The organization’s top position-player prospect recently began hitting again after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. The 20-year-old is expected to be ready for spring training, though Cashman has suggested that he won’t start with the big club given that he hasn’t had a full season at Triple-A yet. Either way, Torres should eventually become a factor in pinstripes in 2018. He ended 2017 as MLB.com’s top prospect in all of baseball. Will the Bombers elect to keep Starlin Castro, Torres’ mentor, around, or trade him? Aside from Torres, Miguel Andujar is another top prospect that could figure in the mix.

Will the Bombers pursue a top free agent?

With them, you never want to say never. But there doesn’t really seem to be a need for Eric Hosmer or Mike Moustakas. After all, the 2019 crop of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado certainly seems worth saving for, as a year is still a very long ways away, and who knows what could happen by then. The core has been built around homegrown, cost-controllable talent like Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Greg Bird. Sabathia ($25 million), Alex Rodriguez ($21 million), Matt Holliday ($13 million), Michael Pineda ($7.4 million), Todd Frazier ($5 million adjusted) and Jaime Garcia will all come off the books.

Other questions include: Will Didi Gregorius get an extension, or will the team continue to take advantage of having cost-control via arbitration? It seems likely the Yankees will shop Jacoby Ellsbury with Aaron Hicks having supplanted him in center, but what could they even get? And what do they plan to do with Dellin Betances, again arbitration-eligible, after his rough end to the year?
