what do u think about Ravio x Legend. like. are they separate people?

Canon wise, they are counterparts. I don't see them as the same- just as Link and Shadow Link aren't the same- but more like a reflection, one that isn't exactly the same, but much similar. I don't really ship them because of this. It's not the same to me as, say, shipping the colors, who are a split (but singular) soul, or even like shipping Link with his shadow, since that's also sort of a facet of himself, or at least is often depicted as the embodiment of his darker self and thoughts (TP manga). Ravio is an alternate reality version of Link, from a world where enough is different that they're very dissimilar, but the fact that they're still counterparts does make my brain stall.

Now, I don't consider it linkcest, but it's more like.... the fact of their being counterparts still makes me balk a little and wonder how much difference there really is. This is one of my main reasons, personally, why I don't ship it. Because while it's not directly selfcest, it does border close to it, enough so that some people might see it that way (as we in the fandom are seeing recently), and selfcest is something I wouldn't touch with a 93 and a half foot pole! So, while I'm not about to trash those who write/draw/enjoy it just because it gives me pause, I do avoid creating it myself.

That all said, I do know why you're asking. I know there's a post going around recently where the author labels this ship as 'disgusting', and I'd like to use this opportunity to remind y'all that, as long as no one's hurting real people, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. We're allowed to say basically anything on our blogs (as proved by the bots T-T), and if we have an opinion, it's not fair for others to start getting mad at us for having our own thoughts on topics/fandoms we enjoy.

If you disagree, just walk away. That's what I do when I see takes I consider "incorrect" on my favorite stories/characters/worlds. There's no need to start drama, I just note to myself that maybe I shouldn't talk with that person on that topic going forwards, and move on.

No one's obligated to keep their thoughts to themselves on their own blog. Our blogs exist so we can express ourselves! They are our safe spaces, and we shouldn't be judged for expressing ourselves within them.

We're all entitled to our own takes on a situation, that's how fandom works! <3

ur valid to dislike what u dislike but lumping selfcest in w like... incest and underaged content is just kinda insulting to anybody who has been thru those things. couldn't imagine being an incest survivor and getting told ur selfcest ship (harmless, cannot be replicated irl in any way, is not incest) is equally as bad as, ykno, an irl traumatic experience u had. like if u think selfcest is problematic enough to be put in the same category as incest and the sexual exploitation of children, u need to consider how u express that and also maybe log off of tumblr for a while. say it makes u uncomfy n u avoid it, super fair, but the way u treat it is downright insulting to ppl who have gone thru actual real tangible trauma. selfcest isn't real- I can tell u have a stance on it by ur language but maybe reconsider, there's a reason the stance is unpopular

that rule I have with Selfcest? is for MY personal boundary. I don’t LIKE it, I want people to be aware when they ask ME or come to ME that I prefer to stay away from it. people don’t read my rules so I have to remind them in the “nicest” way possible.

I’m not “insulting” anyone by having that rule, it makes me uncomfortable so I want to avoid it the best I can and I want people to be aware of it, in case they think about wanting to send me stuff involving it:

If people are “insulted” with me gently reminding people when I GET ASKED that “hey, I don’t like this thing so please remember that I won’t draw or do anything with it!” then that’s THEIR problem, not mine.

I am setting my damn boundaries and I won’t be told, again, that I’m the one that’s being MEAN or INSULTING for it.

This is my blog, my art, and I get to set down my rules and boundaries, that’s all.

I put it next to those things because it’s so normalized in the fandom, and whatever, I just want others to know that if they are expecting that stuff in my blog? it’s not there, nor is it welcomed. Period.

and guess what? IVE SAID COUNTLESS TIMES THAT I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH IT AND AVOUD IT, BLACKLIST IT, and guess what? I STILL have people keep pressuring and demanding that shit to the point where I see it constantly in my inbox.

To answer your question about "how a selfcest plot works out", I'm assuming you're asking about the relationship aspect, aka how their feelings come to be acknowledged? 👀

In that case, truthfully, I have no idea. LMAO. 😂

Actually no that's not right. Hmm. I mean. When I came up with this AU and decided to categorize it as "selfcest", the only thing in my mind was that: I wanted to see Nico love himself.

So, intrinsically, I suppose it might be a little different from what you might consider a typical romance? - the same way I sometimes go for the peculiar, rare, unnamed types of love. In this case, the important thing - the thing for which I built this whole AU and everything around it - is that Nico getting to show himself what love is.

The love in this, to me, is not technically like typical mainstream romances (of kisses and lovemaking etc...), but rather something about to cherish, to protect, to pray for the other's happiness, sometimes to hate as a result, and to fall.

Abstract, I know. I don't understand half of the things I wrote either. (And to think that I project my own self-esteem problem onto it...)

Anyway, the supreme repertoire of this AU is: the Older Nico showing his younger self that he deserves to be loved and could be selfish - because no one else has done it for him and selfishness is the peak unhealthy self-love - and thus, somewhat salvaging himself from the mistreatment he received in his lifetime.

Rather than romance, let's just say it's cherishing.

So, what about the Young Nico? How does he feel about this?

This is actually an angst pool I like to swim in, but like water, I can't properly get it out.

Let's just put ourselves in yNico's shoes. You have someone who treasures you so much it's unhealthy, and from said affection sprouts their wrongdoings. You can somewhat realize they're at wrong, but they're so nice to you, trying so hard for your sake, and suddenly the weight is on your shoulders.

It's already so complicated.

And to think that said person is your future self? That everything they do is just for your own good? That you sometimes want to trust them - over anything else, knowing nothing good would come out of it? That you have to choose between yourself and what's supposed to be "good"?

It's a can of worms I've yet to unpack. If I were to write this down it'd be a 20-something chapter of 100kw self-doubts and manipulation, for which I abs do not have the willpower.

BUT, let's just ask: Can you even call it love?

Again, it depends on what, exactly, you consider love. In this case, the gratitude is definitely there, the affection is def there - how can it not? when the F!Nico is the one teaching him about love, the desire to hold onto is def there; but the conflicts are also there (bc yeah I just have to make F!Nico an antagonist sue me), the doubts, and the "I wish it didn't have to come to this".

That, in a way, you give up on it, but you'd still be willing to give it a chance - if only there was one: The Young Nico treasures the precious things his future self has taught him, and he knew he had to give up on that, yet he couldn't stop himself from holding on.

Ah I love the blurring borders of love.

If you've followed me long enough, you'd probably realize that I don't always follow the definition of mainstream love/romance. In fact, when I say that "these two are in love", it's hardly ever about them wanting to kiss or lay around in the sheets, but rather them having a deep connection - whether it's by hatred, a grudge, a type of co-dependency, etc...

The term of "selfcest" itself, whilst posing as a couple tag, is used by me to indicate a connection, a somewhat attraction, and not completely a romance of normal standards. ❤🎇✨

So, to answer your question of how the selfcest part might play out: it's love, all the same.

maybe it's just me but this episode felt very dialogue-heavy and exposition-heavy, which isn't always a bad thing but it's really just telling us lots of things instead of showing us things. which is like the point of a visual medium. idk

the battle scene near the end was a little better but still kinda awkward

i feel like ravonna should be feeling a LOT more emotions considering she just found out her entire life is a lie and she almost got pruned? she just seemed pretty chill the whole time

pls i wanted to see loki and his alternate self get up to MISCHIEF and be SHITPOSTERS i didn't want them to have heartfelt romantic conversations on a hilltop ://

like loki & mobius & sylvie could have been such a dynamic trio! but mobius has to go back to the TVA now and he won't get any more screen time this episode so. what can you do?

idk where this rant is gonna go, it was jus smth tht was bubbling in me as i was eating bc i had nothing 2 watch, but the state of shipping in fandom is so... weird. it’s either ur For or Against everything, no grey area. no nothing. fandom has divided itself i2 “antis” n “anti-antis” but sometimes there r those tht fall outside of both. some1 who mayb doesn’t like !ncest n large age gaps n power imbalances, just like some1 who hates problematic ppl. but they see tht some ppl on tht side also hate small age gaps, like 3 yrs, or even smth as small as 2 yrs! or ppl who see a chara go “we’re like brothers in arms” or smth n goes “tht’s incest-coded!!”. or when a chara is short n deem them unshippable n stuff. or if a ship is enemies to lovers or they bicker n ppl go “abuse!! dont ship it or ur a FREAK” or the stuff w selfcest n they’re like man... tht’s rly kinda dumb. but if they don’t side w them, n they dont side w the problematics, then what? they could label themselves as neutral, bc they dont believe in a lot of the extremities of ppl who find every single fucking flaw w every single ship n deem u horrible 4 it bc No Critical Thinking or Enjoyment nor do they believe in shippings things tht r Morally Wrong, but even if they jus say they’re neutral n don’t want drama n don’t rly take sides bc things r nuanced, they’re Still harassed! if ur not Completely w 1 side, it’s as if ur not slightly sided w them At All n ur still seen as a problematic or taking their side. even if u Dont ship the bad stuff! or things tht they consider bad but arent rly all tht much when u consider it’s 2 fucking anime charas n there r worse ships to ship. but if ur not With them, ur Against them. there’s nothing u can fucking Do. u cant fucking Win. u either hav 2 see the immoralities w EVERY ship n only hav the Purest Of Ships Ever or ur labeled as a p3d0-supporter bc u, what, shipped a small age gap tht ppl don’t approve of, even if it’s a legal age gap? didnt ship anything bad but decided 2 just be drama-free but now tht means ur ‘siding w the enemy’ so u still got harassed anyway? shipping is supposed 2 b fucking FUN. it’s clanking some barbie dolls together n going haha! i wanna see em kiss! i wanna kno their story! but if u slip up even fucking a BIT, u have every1 on ur ass. it’s not fun anymore. u hav 2 tiptoe a fucking line for everything. oh, dont u kno? these charas are enemies so tht’s abuse! oh, dont u kno? these two were childhood friends. tht’s as close as siblings! so u support incest, huh? tht’s a senior n a sophomore ur shipping! one’s 18! dont u kno tht u shipping tht is the same as u supporting irl p3d0s? huh? u p3d0?? u dont even kno where some ppl draw the line. some ppl will draw the line at 1 thing, while others will condemn u 4 it. some ppl will say, yea, 2 yrs is fine tht’s not rly problematic cmon now while others will go “2 YRS?? HOW DARE U” n some ppl will b like “enemies 2 lovers? hot! redemption arc when?” n others will see one (1) argument n go “oh theyre awful this is definitely abuse” n u dont kno who will view u as an enemy 4 ur ship even if ur on tht side. even if u dont ship smth completely immoral ur thrown 2 the hounds 4 anything n everything u fucking ship. it feels as if it’s just a fucking paranoia chamber. “watch ur every slight or we’ll make a call-out for u n drop u 4 being a gross problematic supporter. for being a freak.” n this goes even beyond shipping too, honestly. down to any type of media u consume. even if u watch it critically or w/e, it wont matter 2 ppl. they dont care. u either loathe it to bits or ur some1 who supports everything in it. there’s no grey thinking at all, just 1 Side Or The Other.
