i now shy away from those chain rank-the-six posts (they seem to draw a lot of hostility, lol), but i thought it would be interesting to look at the rankings of 'six wives' fiction series, there's really only two bestselling series where it makes sense to do this:
weir's series by sales rankings:
Katherine Parr (#32 in Renaissance HistFic)
Anne Boleyn (#34 in Renaissance HistFic)
Anne of Cleves (#44 in RHF)
Katherine Howard (#56 in RHF)
Jane Seymour (#69 in RHF)
Katherine of Aragon (#84 in RHF)
gregory's by sales rankings (more difficult but i went for the center/central of the novel when i couldn't do by the protagonist):
Anne of Cleves/Katherine Howard (#24 in RHF)
Anne Boleyn (#33 in RHF)
Katherine Parr (#42 in RHF)
Katherine of Aragon (#60 in RHF)
bonus, suzannah dunn's by ranking (now i'm fascinated):
Anne Boleyn
Katherine Howard
Jane Seymour
Katherine Parr

can't believe a show based on a videogame (usually games adaptations are notoriously bad, which isn't the case here tho) gave me the beauty and the beast/twisted mirrors/enemies to traveling companions/ruthless antihero+optmistic but still badass heroine who takes none of his shit/age gap but make it sexy dynamic of my dreams. as much as i love maximus and i think he deserves the best writing ever because 1. he's a clever deconstruction of the aspiring Knight bro who's actually a bit of a loser and, as much as lucy, sees the world in black&white at first and then doesn't get what he thought he wanted but what he needs (or at least i hope he'll eventually get it), and 2. he's a cutie and i want an epic love story for him too, it's very funny how they tried to give us a puppy kind of romance and the tumblr girlies still fixated on the "toxic ~she bites his finger off and he cuts hers off and sews it on his hand in what we'll pretend it's a symbolic marriage rings exchange or whatever~ asshole who used to be a nice guy/good girl™ with a lot of spunk and hidden anger but unshakeable morals" kind of relationship.

listen. I love fictional romance as much as my irl romo-repulsed aro heart can. however, tropes that rely on confession or, even worse, being told to confess to someone who is already happily in a relationship always piss me off. it's selfish. and never seems to take in account the position you're putting them in. Confess to the married woman you're been in love with her forever bc it makes you feel better but god forbid whatever it does for her (looking at you Love, Actually) or to your crush before she goes on vacation with her current boyfriend she seems happy with and like. You realize you've just put all that weight on them right? Like i get it, it sucks carrying around maybe unrequited feelings and maybe it's the romo-repulsed aro in me but I've always thought that cruel.
like I used to read advice columns just Because and I remember a gay guy writing in and saying he had a friend he knew was straight but he had a crush on him and he thought his friend would appreciate the honesty and instead he's now lost a friend bc the straight guy is pulling away, not bc of homophobia or anything but bc when someone confesses it's putting an onus on you to do something about it, whether they intend it to or not. it is my biggest romance genre pet peeve and i hate how common it is bc unless you know that person is poly and/or in an open relationship then you fucking shut up
