Influential RPG adventure writer, artist, and video game creator Jennell Jaquays has died.
She was a founder of the Dungeoneer zine before it was sold to Judges Guild. Her D&D adventures Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia became classics, often studied as examples of adventure design. She also wrote and illustrated for TSR, Metagaming, Steve Jackson Games, and many other publishers. Her video game career included developing many of Coleco's titles in the 1980s and level design for the Quake sequels at id Software in the 90s, and she co-founded the SMU Guildhall video game program.
She recently was hospitalized for symptoms of Guillain-Barré syndrome, and a GoFundMe to cover her medical expenses is still active.

A detail I like about Wolfenstein: New Order is that at the Nazi super duper air and space research facility, they have a big statue out front, and instead of making it another instance of Deathshead, their nazi super scientist OC do not steal, they used Werner Von Braun, actual real life nazi super scientist (comparatively) who famously finagled his way out of getting charged for war-crimes by agreeing to help the americans with their war-crimes space program I mean space program, the success of which earned him quite a lot of contemporary praise and good press. The man was featured in freaking DISNEY.
I just really like the commentary of a man greatly praised in America during the 50s and 60s, receiving the same honors in the Nazi-victory timeline of the same era because he never had a reason to stop being a nazi.

Coming Soon from id Software
As our follow-up to the Commander Keen trilogy, id Software is working on "The Fight For Justice": a completely new approach to fantasy gaming. You start not as a weakling with no food--you start as Quake, the strongest, most dangerous person on the continent. You start off with a Hammer of Thunderbolts, a Ring of Regeneration, and a trans-dimensional artifact. Here the fun begins. You fight for Justice, a secret organization devoted to vanquishing evil from the land! This is role-playing excitement.
And you don't chunk around the screen. "The Fight for Justice" contains fully animated scrolling backgrounds. All the people you meet have their own lives, personalities, and objectives. A 256-color VGA version will be available (smooth scrolling 256-color screens--fancy that)!
And the depth of play will be intense. No more "whack whack here's some gold." There will be interesting puzzles and decisions won't be "yes/no" but complex correlations of people and events.
"The Fight for Justice" will be the finest PC game yet.
-from Commander Keen (1990)
