Answer My Call Chapter 2 Part 2

Happy WIP Wednesday! So last week, we had a tie between Bring Me Home and Answer My Call. The tie breaker didn't come in until Monday after I'd already finished the entire Bring Me Home chapter and half the Answer My Call one.

So y'all will be getting two fic upates today then I'm going to sleep. I'm tired after a full day of work with a call out. XP

Story Summary: Jazz, Sam, and Tucker manage to help Danny escape the GIW, but they can't follow him and are under too much surveillance to communicate with each other. Sam snuck Danny a phone as he ran and Jazz sends him a text every day, hoping to hear he is all right. But he's not the one getting the texts.

Jason was away for several months on a mission with the Outlaws. When he finally returns home, he is surprised to find dozens of messages from an unknown number begging a Danny to tell her he's okay. Looks like there's not going to be a break between missions this time around.

After the performances—an odd mix where the main band yielded the stage to a poet or an accordionist when they needed a break—Jazz and Todd continued to mingle.

Jazz waited until about fifteen minutes had passed before reaching into her bag to search for her phone. “Todd!” she cried.

“Jazz? What’s wrong?”

“I can’t find my phone! Shit, what time is it?”

Todd pulled out his. “Eleven fifty. Did you have it when we arrived?”

“I don’t know! I haven’t checked it. Where could it have gone?”

One of the other attendees broke into the conversation. “Lost your phone? What does it look like? We can help you look.” She was a woman in her forties or fifties. Next to her was another woman who nodded her agreement.

“Thank you, that’d be great.” It didn’t take much effort to bring tears to her eyes—all she had to do was remember that Danny was still missing. “It’s a Samsung in an unfortunately standard black case. The lock screen has picture of and my brother. My name’s Jazz, by the way. And this is Todd.”

“I’m Mel and this is my wife Jayden. I’m sure we’ll find your phone soon enough.” Then, in a voice loud enough to cut through the chatter, “Oi! Anyone see an unattended phone lying around? Jazz here misplaced hers?”

Even Mel, though, had to admit defeat after half an hour of searching through the entire apartment yielded nothing.

Jazz sat down on the floor and let herself cry. “And by now we’ve missed the last train. I’m sorry, Todd. What a disaster.”

“Hey, no. None of that, now. Tonight’s been a blast. This sucks for sure, but I can get us an uber or something—”

“How far are you kids going?” asked Jayden.

“Too far,” cried Jazz. “I live out of the city. Parked at Alewife and took the red line in.”

Jayden winced. “Well, we parked nearby. Is there somewhere close we can drive you?”

Jazz blinked up at them. “You’d do that?” She turned to Todd. “I just want to go to sleep. Is there a motel nearby we could stay at?”

Todd pulled out his phone and searched. “Looks like there’s a Holiday inn just down the street or a La Quinta that’s a little cheaper just a bit further out.” He smiled ruefully at the women who’d been helping them. “If you could get us to either place, we’d be more than grateful.”

One of the residents, an older man named Rob, took a seat next to them. “Hey, kiddo. What’s your email? We can contact you if anyone finds it.”

Jazz smiled at him gratefully and gave it. If it wasn’t so necessary, she’d feel bad for lying to and worrying all these people. But they were in so much danger. To the women, she said, “Would the La Quinta be too far out of the way? If I end up having to get a new phone, I’d like to save as much money as possible. Thank God I still have my wallet.”

“Sweetie, it’s totally fine,” assured Mel. “We’d take you all the way home if we didn’t live on the opposite side of the city.”

“Thank you, but that’s really okay. I just want to go to bed and worry about it tomorrow.”

“Come on, dear.” Mel reached out a hand to help Jazz up. “Let’s get you cleaned up then we’ll be on our way.”

Jazz thanked Rob for his help before Mel led her towards the bathroom with an arm around her shoulder.

Less than forty minutes later, Todd and Jazz were alone in a hotel room together. She pulled the blinds shut and finally let herself relax.

When she turned back to the room, Todd was looking at her with one eyebrow raised. “Want to explain to me what all of”—he threw out his hands—“that was about?”

Jazz glared back at him. “You didn’t tell me you died! Damn it, if I’d known in advance—!” she cut herself off and took a deep breath. “Never mind. What’s done is done.”

Todd was deadly still. “How do you know that?”

Jazz threw her hands in the air. “It’s obvious to anyone who knows how to tell. Including the Guys in White who I told you are dangerous to ghosts and liminals! I had plans for what I’d say when they found us, but those won’t work if you’re dead!”

“Wait.” Todd held up his hands. “You’re saying I can be persecuted under those Anti-Ecto acts?”

“Yes! You’re more ghostly than me, and I am watched every minute of every day.”

Todd narrowed his eyes and stared at her for a moment before asking, “Have you heard of Lazarus Water or had any dealings with the League of Assassins?”

“No! I have no idea what you’re talking about. Quit changing the subject. My brother is the only thing that matters and you and Red Robin promised to help me find him.”

“That’s what I’m trying to do!” Jason’s eyes flashed green, and Jazz glared right back at him. “The League of Assassins are the ones who brought me back to life with Lazarus Water. I need to know if you and your brother are mixed up with them because that would change our approach. If it’s a rogue government agency, that’s one thing. If it’s also the league, we’ve got a whole set of other problems.”

Jazz sat down heavily on one of the bed. “Oh. Sorry, I didn’t— It’s been a long few months. After a long few years.”

Todd sat down across from her and nodded for her to continue. “Tell me what happened.”

“It started three years ago. My parents, they’re ghost hunters. Been building weapons to detect and hunt ghosts since before I was born. But three years ago is when they finally finished their life’s work: the ghost portal. Only it didn’t work at first. Then my brother Danny and his friends decided to be stupid. They went to check it out. I wasn’t there and the three of them don’t talk about it, but something happened down there that day.

“My brother died and the portal was working. Only, he didn’t die all the way. He became half-ghost, half-human. And that would have been bad enough, but with the portal open, ghosts came through from the Infinite Realms, sometimes called the Ghost Zone by humans. Some were benign, but many of them came to cause problems or hurt people. Danny stopped them.”

Todd held up a hand to stop her. “Your brother became a supehero? How didn’t the Justice League hear about this? How old was he?”

Jazz shrugged. “I don’t know about the Justice League. It could be that no one ever contacted them. It could be they didn’t believe us. And it could be that no one cared. Danny felt responsible though, since it was his fault the portal turned on. And he was the only one with the ability to stop the ghosts, so…” She held up her hands in a what-can-you-do gesture.

Todd closed his eyes and let out a careful breath. “I can guarantee you the JL didn’t know about your town. A fourteen-year-old would never have been left alone to monitor an interdimensional portal if we had.”

Jazz had no idea what she thought of that. Danny had done it all alone. So finding out he could have had help? She shook her head. What-ifs were a waste of time. “Well, he did. But the government didn’t like that a ghost was the main defense against ghosts. So the Ghost Investigation Ward, more commonly called the Guys in White or GIW was formed. At first, they were as incompetent as any other ghost hunter. But they didn’t stay that way.”

“What happened to your brother, Jazz?” asked Todd.

Not much to say about this one. When I went to the event at this location, my friend and I very nearly missed the last train. It was pulling into the station as we entered. If we'd been 2 or 3 minutes later, we would've been stranded so far from my car, I don't even want to know what that uber or cab would've cost.

Luckily Jazz and Jason had a few good Samaritans nearby.

Gonna take the stance of "ability" being the Force ability that they're most well-known for rather than just the Force as a whole because. That's not "extraordinary" in and of itself in the SWTOR universe xP Click the ability name for the Wookieepedia page in case you're not familiar with the Force ability itself and want a refresher/explanation! :3 For Saarai, it's psychometry and for Ni'kasi it's Force-walking

Also feel like it'd be more fun to answer these in-character for a change so that's what we're gonna do! 😊

Alrighty now that we're on the same page, onto the questions!! :'DD Under a cut bc it's a long post, no specific warnings needed other than spoilers for the Sith Inquisitor storyline if you haven't done it, some swearing, and some mild implied angst <3

11. Have you ever had an embarrassing moment while using your ability?

Saarai huffs softly, her jaw spurs rattling in embarrassment as she ducks her head and mutters. "Lana and Koth promised not to tell anyone!" she whines, staring at her own shoes for a moment, before begrudgingly looking up to answer. "...Yeah, okay. Fine. I'll admit it." the Pureblood shuffles her weight from one foot to another, arms crossing over her broad chest. "Sometimes I forget to wear my gloves, so it can be pretty embarrassing when I pick something up or touch something and all of a sudden I'm bitch-slapped with a torrent of Force visions about all the blood and death and shit that the thing was connected to. Usually I'm er...I'm better at planting my feet and pushing through it but...." a distant look enters her sulfur-yellow eyes, and she trails off for a long moment as if Saarai were somewhere else entirely. If you're observant, you'll notice a shudder of discomfort work its way through the Pureblood's normally-sturdy frame. "But Nathema...that was a whole different beast. I didn't think- Gods, I never wanted to cry like that in front of Lana or Koth but it all hit me at once and I just couldn't help it." It might be best not to press her for more details, whatever she saw in those visions, it clearly was upsetting for Saarai.

Ni'kasi, however, remains quiet at first. Her eyes scrutinise you closely, as if she's trying to decide whether she can get away with giving away information that might make her 'vulnerable'. A soft breath huffs from her nostrils, and she shakes her shoulders out before admitting, her face blank and unreadable of any sort of humiliation or sheepishness that might give away how she really feels about the story she's telling. "....I suppose, the first time I tried to use it. The first time I fought Thanaton. That's what I get for trusting Zash at her word, it never happened again, and it never will. I got cocky, and figured I could handle far more power than I was prepared to." more quietly, she mutters. "Mother was right, as usual. Should've listened to her." her impassive mask of an expression does crack, then, as she flashes a sharp-toothed grin. "Fucker's deader than the ghosts in my head, now so...tell someone about Darth Occulus' greatest fuck up, or don't. Nobody's going to believe you if you do."

15. Would you ever choose to trade your ability for another?

Again, Saarai goes quiet. For a moment you wonder if she's heard your question at all, but when she speaks up it's clear she had, it was just something she genuinely had to put a lot of thought into for a moment. "....You know what? I don't think so." she shrugs, letting out a mirthful laugh and seeming to shake off the melancholy that had taken hold of her moments before. "Listen, as much as not being able to touch shit without gloves on can suck sometimes it's...it's something that's always been there, y'know? It's a part of me, just like the Force is. I think I'd feel like I wasn't whole if I woke up tomorrow and the psychometry was gone."

Ni'kasi doesn't even hesitate before she shakes her head. "No. Not for anything in the galaxy. It was a difficult ability to master, but it...gave me a connection to my family, my mother in particular, that I'm not sure I would've had without it." she smirks, thinking of Thanaton, though her lips settle into a smile that's far more fond as she carries on talking. "I could've found a way to kill that bastard without it, but...having mother there to talk to, even now, is nice. Makes me miss her a lot less than I did before I learned to Force-walk."

27. If you could give your abilities to one person for a day, who would it be?

Saarai's answer this time is far more immediate, and her voice raises perhaps a little more than she means it to in her vigor to convey her point. "NO ONE!" seeming to realize that such a loud outburst might have startled you, she coughs, spurs trembling again, and when she speaks again her tone returns to its normal register. "Look, I'm not even sure if this is something that you can just learn or...or give to someone else. I was born with it, as far as I know. But even if it was possible, trust me, I wouldn't want anyone else rushing into this. It seems cool on paper, and as much as I'm used to it now and wouldn't get "rid" of it, seriously...it gets old real fast. When it's helpful, it's helpful but when it sucks? It really sucks. The constant fear that some weapon or object you pick up is gonna be a metaphorical brick to the face, the nightmares in your sleep...You don't want this."

Lady Occulus folds her arms behind her back, raises her chin and stares down at you, hard. "Why?" she asks at length, trying to parse out why you're prying into that particular question. "Who wants to know?"

(Author intervention (for the actual answer since Kas isn't gonna give it 🤣) : She might entertain teaching an apprentice she trusts, buuuuuttt she'd have to be certain they wouldn't turn on her and use it against her. I mean, that's basically what she did to Zash and Thanaton and she's not stupid enough to open herself up to that same achilles' heel 😉)

30. Name one skill you haven’t yet perfected that you want to master.

Saarai smiles again, a big, toothy grin this time. Unlike her twin, she's not the least bit shy about admitting her shortcomings and even laughs as she does so. "I wouldn't mind learning how to be better with Force lightning. It's not something I was ever good at, I can do a little but...Kas and Lana are way better at it than I am." she gestures at her posture, all bulk and hard muscle. "Doesn't lend itself so well to the artistry and the fine hand movements, does it? Nah, I'm more like...the battering ram that kicks the door in while they do the finicky lightning work. Still, it might be handy to be better at it, bet it comes in handy for short-circuiting those droids, or consoles and stuff."

Ni'kasi sniffs, seeming almost offended that you're still trying to poke into her weak points. When Rai gets more animated discussing hers, however, she seems to consider an answer of her own that isn't too damning to her reputation. A soft chuckle escapes the Pureblood, her eyes shining with an undeniable fondness and admiration for her sister, if you're looking closely enough to notice that is. "...I'm not good with people. Not like Rai is. Bossing people around and telling them what to do? That I can do. But making friends, making people like me? She makes it look so fucking easy and sometimes I wish I could be more like her..."

Every year my aunt sends me these online advent calendar things. They're kind of fancy with all these flashy holiday animations and "Wishing you season's greetings" etc and they actually have to be paid for. So it is a gift. But that's all they are... pretty pictures that are different every day if you check in. She has been doing this for years. Sorry to say, I never remember them. I never check more than the first time.

I told my mom I don't want them, hoping it would indirectly get back to my aunt in a way that wouldn't hurt her feelings, but I guess she likes sending them too much. That would be fine, except she also checks in explicitly to make sure I looked at it. She just messaged me "I see your advent calendar hasn't been activated" 😳 she is lit keeping tabs on these calendars

I guess what I need to do is suck it up and just open it. I think as long as I open it once there won't be any more alerts to her that like I opened it only one time or something... I hope not anyway. It's the sort of thing where I suppose I need to accept that what seems silly to me is really important for whatever reason to someone else. Alright, I've talked myself into opening. But I'm venting here because I can't anywhere else... the truth is I just don't want this calendar. I don't understand it. It requires you to make an account to view your gift which is a pet peeve of mine. And it's just not fun for me.

But it is for her. So suck it up, Fizz XP

ETA: oh man not only has the site forgotten my information since previous years making me start over from scratch, they have switched from an online calendar to one you have to download and install on your desktop. it's just so funny. first you have to agree to the "terms and conditions" of your advent calendar. and then there are instructions. instructions for your advent calendar x'D goodness please just buy print ones y'all. they have no terms and conditions and often contain chocolate. so sorry aunt. i won't use it, it's just going to sit there using up ram. idk what to tell you. my macbook is small and only has programs I use regularly (and the ones I don't use but Apple won't let me delete.) registering was enough to show I activated it at least.

I think I'm just going to start telling you my AU thoughts- You don't have to put reactions if you don't wanna and if it's too much effort. I just want to share my thoughts with you.

An AU where Akane jokes about his obsession with Aoi. Everyone thinks he's actually obsessed but instead he does it for the 'lol's and because he's gay so he feels no attraction towards her.

OMG yesss I love when Akane is either just a gay best friend to Aoi and joke around about crushing on her or he's a confused gay trying to convince himself he likes Aoi

and Akane isn't super open about being gay so he doesn't say it much, I mean it's none of y'alls business, but he gets very confused when people mention him "liking" Aoi

especially when it's an inside joke and thought he "obviously" liked guys and not her, they're just childhood friends after all...and you know what they say! never fall in love with the boy next door! (I swear that's AoiKane's motto it's canon don't ask for evidence)

he just makes these comments and jokes about how much he's "obsessed" with Aoi and that he's gonna marry her but him and Aoi are the only ones that know it's a joke—

I'm sorry but I love doing her🙏🙏

she was talking about how romantic it is for Aoi to have a guy so devoted to her and that Nene wished Akane liked her as much as he liked Aoi, and Aoi was just confused. she isn't as oblivious as Akane when it comes to others not understanding that it's a joke. but she didn't get what Nene was talking about, untill Nene kept going on and on about romance and how "he's the perfect guy" and Aoi's just like "you think Akane Kun likes me??" and Nene is just jaw dropped and yells at her how in LOVE he is, and then Aoi just mindlessly says "but he likes guys he could never love me like that" only to realize she just outed her friend at a slumber party with Nene, and Nene was just completely speechless, her breath was taken away! and Aoi was just like, "listen up you don't say anything about this untill I ask Akane Kun if it's okay to tell you...." and Nene just nodded and was so silent about their romance jokes after that. she then decided she would never bring it up ever again.

Teru honestly never paid much attention to the comments, except when they creeped him out or he thought they were a bit overboard, other then that Akane never really spoke of Aoi like that in the council room so he didn't pay much mind to it. untill he made a comment about asking Aoi-Chan out, saying how he'd steal her, only to leave Akane looking like that was the most confusing thing Teru has ever said, like I said he's not the brightest when it comes to others not knowing. even Teru, as a fellow gay, hadn't even noticed, I mean he never really commented on women besides Aoi, but he never thought he was gay...but Akane we even MORE confused bc he couldn't understand why he wouldn't like guys, for him guys are the most beautiful thing ever and has always liked them, but when Teru finally got the hint he shut down what he was saying immediately. Akane just moved on with his day, a little embarrassed that he didn't realize Teru didn't know that it was a joke a now the student council president, who he thought was attractive might see him differently because he likes guys, not knowing Teru also likes guys.

-it later became an inside joke between them for Teru to threaten to steal Aoi when they're both gay-

Kou would just accept that Akane likes Aoi no doubt, never even thought of it not being serious. zero doubt, untill Teru was talking about how he mistook it when Kou was cooking dinner, he turned around and was like "WAIT. Aoi-Senpai DOESN'T like Akane-Senpai??????" and had to take a moment to question everything he ever thought of those two, and completely switched how he thought of them from then on, never looked back.

-Teru never said Akane was gay so he didn't 'out' him, but after awhile of Kou seeing Akane and Yamabuki (cough even his own brother cough) he decided that he was gay-

don't ask questions just accept the character choice💪

when Mirai came to retrieve Akane she ease dropped on a conversation when he was just joking and got SHIVERS, I kid you not, she felt it down her spine knowing that the person that cleans clock actually likes someone, why would he need romance when he could just eat candy?? anyways she the next day spied on him a bit, and heard some of his other comments and compliments, and after a week of gathering, and when Akane was off school she asked Kako about it. so when he came back the next time he needed to clean the clocks she jumped out of the blue and yelled "YOU HAVE A CRUSH~!!" jumping from wall to wall and singing how creepy he is, while Akane is quite annoyed and would like to know where she got these ideas. but hearing her go on he realized she's talking about him and Aoi(how could they be romantic?) and trying to catch her in his hands he said he didn't like her and would never, then Mirai stopped and sat on the ground mourning her love life, she sorrowfully said "Aowi-Chan got playyyyed..." and then Akane snapped saying that they were just joking and that he wasn't playing her, then walking off to go to the boundary. Mirai was confused but took the answer, not that she had the attention span enough to care for long.

DLC Spoilers

Thank you bug dlc for helping me finally care about a character that i didn't really care that much about before.

Imma be honest with y'all, Shelda was always just kinda bland to me :T Not to say i disliked her by any means. More so i just didn't have any strong feelings, good or bad, about her and her story line. She got a few laughs out of me, but otherwise felt like she was just kinda... there. Idk, i just never clicked with her for whatever reason. And it made it really hard for me to do anything with her (so to those who were curious to know more about her in the monster au, that's why i never made any more posts about her. I tried a few times, but i could just never find the inspiration for her, and i'm sorry for that xP)

But now, thanks to the dlc building on her character immensely, i actually really like her!~ :D though, now it's brought up a different problem for her place in the au..

Initially, i just set her up to be like, the introductory snakmonster (cause i do have somewhat of a plotline that it follows). sort of like a slow moving shambling zombie, with one or two surprises up her sleeve it's spitting acid. Not the easiest fight, but far easier in comparison to the others. Aaand that was all i had for her. Even her design, i wasn't fully satisfied with.

But now, with her new look at the character.. i kinda feel like i want her on the recovery team instead. I think she'd have some very interesting interactions from that point of view, and it's left me very conflicted now ;>__>

NEO: The World Ends With You Japanese Limited Edition Photos!

So, being the TWEWY fan I am, I kinda couldn't resist importing the super expensive and much-cooler-than-what-the-West-got limited edition for NTWEWY (https://store.jp.square-enix.com/item/SE_E2694.html), and I've actually had this kind of huge box just sitting in my room for ages, so as mentioned, I finally opened it today and took some photos of my spoils.

The bag, which contained a box with almost all the other goodies, looks pretty cool imo, and has the "funny game master saying", but I don't think I'll actually be able to use it. Not quite my style, I guess. Maybe one day I can come up with an excuse to use it anyway though, haha.

At first, the box just has the game and the Mr. Mew plush, and the game is, of course, in Japanese. Obviously I already played it and beat it, opting for the English Switch version, so now I've got a copy for both systems and in both languages, haha.

However, opening the box further reveals that there are multiple goodies! Here's a poorly lit photo above, lol. (I'm sorry, unboxing this took a while and I only had so much energy/effort to spare into taking good photos rn ^^; haha)

This cassette-player like box contains a Rindo pin and a reaper pin (think that’s what it’s called) that... looks pretty cool, but unfortunately can't turn back time no matter how hard I squeeze it. Though I dunno, maybe I just don't know how to use it right. Don't think it came with instructions, but if it did, they were in Japanese and I didn't try to translate them XD

This is the artbook, but with the cover taken off. That's right, it says "TWEWY"! Thought this was really interesting given that the Japanese name is, of course, quite different, but it seems like the English name has kinda caught on to an extent even in Japan, which I think is pretty neat.

Also, I did look at the inside, and it's classic artbook stuff, but well, it's NTWEWY, so I enjoyed it! Had some art I hadn't seen before too. (And some spoilers I guess, but hopefully collectors know it's better not to open such limited-edition-artbooks before beating the game, haha.)

The game and Mr. Mew. Dunno if I'll actually ever play this version of the game, especially with the PS5 already being a thing, and uhh, honestly I'm not a plushie person, so Mr. Mew doesn't have much use either, but... that's ok, collecting stuff I don't use isn't so bad if it's for TWEWY, right? XP

Lastly from the collector's edition, a mini soundtrack! Inside is a list of the songs, as well as a little booklet or such that has lyrics for the songs. only listened to a couple songs so far but between this and the full soundtrack I showed earlier, I think I'm set for NTWEWY's music, haha. Also, I lowkey still own a CD player that doubles as an alarm (not sure what it's called anymore), and I put this mini soundtrack in it, so now I might end up waking up to NTWEWY music sometimes. :P

But wait, there's more! Actually, I got something from the TWEWY Animation merch line that Square Enix also had on their Japanese store. So this is separate from the NTWEWY collector's edition, but I had it shipped in the same box, and so here it is!

W-What are these? Acrylic stands! Each one was about about $15 or so, but when I realized they all form a mural or w/e when put together, I kind of couldn't help but get all of them...

The lighting in my room at night is kinda poor and the photo doesn't look good with a flash imo, but I think y'all get the idea—the 5 of them complete a set, and I'm happy to have them as a way of remembering/appreciating TWEWY.

Overall I'd say I'm very happy with the collector's edition and acrylic stands, even if I do realize it's kind of a waste of money—felt like I needed to live it up for the sequel of one of my all-time favorite games, you know?

But at the end of the day/as I basically just said, these are kind of just ways to help remember and convey my passion for the series, and I think the most important thing is our own experiences with the games and how we feel about them. Merch is just a bonus, haha. And I mean, I think with this I should be good on TWEWY merch for a good, long while now, ;).

Okay I read the last one before this one and I do not like this girl sorry 😬 if a man was doing that behavior it would eh a big red flag liek asking someone out more than once when they say no is a big ick to me and if she doesn’t care that you’re 17 that’s still kinda sus. But that’s just my opinion and what you chose to do is your choice.
