I promise you I wouldn't go 0 to 100 with you with those kinds of questions. Weirder than that? I'm starting to grow concerned for you if you draw in such.. colorful personalities like that.
You sound like a terrible influence, and I fully support that (because, same).
Oh gosh. I'm sorry you were bullied. Kids/teenagers can be brutal. I always thank my lucky stars that I went to schools with nicer kids. I was later told no one would ever mess with me because I looked like I knew how to fight - which I attribute to my rbf. I obviously don't know you all that well personally, but you seem perfectly delightful to me so it's hard to picture you being a handful.
Howard the Duck! I think I hated it as a kid. My dad really wasn't careful with the movies he rented for me. My sister didn't tell me it was awful, so I never added The Meg to my list.
Hmm, can't relate. I'm not that into muscles, so The Rock isn't my cup of tea, and I do fancy the gents as well (though not as much as the ladies, despite what my dating history would suggest). Watch a movie that prominently features a pretty lady (that kicks ass), and the identity crisis may be averted for a while. Sorry to hear that. Is there a way to put some happiness back in you?
Music. Oh jeez. I could rattle off what I like all day, but I'll refrain. Some of my favorites: St. Vincent, Sevdaliza, Allie X, Lisa Hannigan, Beirut, James Blake, Chet Faker, Leon Bridges. And so on.. What about you?
A little. I'm very over 2020. I shan't miss it, but I'm not an optimist by nature, so I'm not all that thrilled about 2021. Are you?
I would need more details. 1. Would I have books/music? 2. Do I get to leave the cottage? 3. Do I have to bring someone with me? And if so, how small is this cottage? If the answer is yes and tiny, I'm leaning towards no. 150k isn't enough to put myself through that. I need a lot of alone time - though exceptions do apply from time to time. I don't currently like anyone enough to share a space with them for a whole year. Same question goes to you, though. Would you do that for $150,000?
Ooh, we’ve entered scrolling era on the computer! I now need to scroll to see what you wrote! Exciting things. *claps*. Back when I wrote Shadow Haven I used to get a lot of anons because they thought I was super into answering questions like, “How often do you masturbate / Do you masturbate to fic / What is your favorite thing to masturbate to / You made me come twice with this chapter!” Okay, that last one isn’t a question, but definitely have been told that a few times. Although my all time favorite comment I’ve ever gotten was from this young girl who said she almost reached an orgasm for the first time but the fic wasn’t long enough xD Hm, bullying is a thread throughout my life. But yeah some kids can be absolutely brutal. Adults too. But that’s a sob story for another time lol. RBF is one of my favorite things. I’m glad you didn’t experience that in school, though. I don’t know if I’m all that delightful. I think I’m nice? That’s something lol. I’ve never seen Howard the Duck to be honest. The only Duck I know is Donald. Oh want to hear a funny story about a duck? One day when I was young, back in the olden days, in the 90′s... My brother came home with a duck once. He said it was injured and he put it in the shed. I do think it really was injured but I have no idea what was wrong with it. We had this iron tub in the shed that we put water in and within a couple of days he had shat all over the shed. But we kept him for quite some time I think, although I was young so it was probably like two weeks that felt like two years. Anyway, the duck got better. We named him Donald and then we put him back out in the pond near our house where he came from. You’d think that’s where the story ends. But tis not. So one day not too long after we released him back into the pond... They started to drain the pond because, well actually I don’t know why. My brother said it was because there was one of those electric eels that they needed to get out of the pond, which made us all scared to swim in and I’m just now realizing he probably lied about that. Dick. Anyway, big digging machine came, and I went to walk the dog and on top of the claw of the digging machine was a dead duck. Our dead duck. Which I could see from far away. Uhm. Okay so maybe it wasn’t our duck. But as a child I was fucking convinced it was. I sobbed and told my mom he had been killed. And she was just like, “Well, he had a good time with us, didn’t he!’ I was and perhaps am at times a bit... how shall I put this gently... over dramatic. Sensitive. A drama queen. I freely admit it. I don’t actually know a lot of those artists but I’m listening to Sevdaliza’s Human and uhm. I bet it’s a on a lot of x-rated playlists. Yeah I’m with you on the 2020/2021 feeling. I don’t even want to say it can only get better from here on out because was I ever wrong before!  This song is a bop. I like it. Goes straight on my current obsessions playlist. Okay, cottage details. I asked because it’s always one of those Facebook posts I see, but here’s some details.  Fuck. Details. Okay. I got this. Yes, you can bring books. And movies. And there’s a TV and a radio and a computer. Just no internet. I don’t know why. But there’s not. FB rules. Not mine. I’d need internet.  I’m suddenly getting a one-shot through into my thick skull. As if I am gonna write it. Ha.  You can leave the cottage whenever you want. You’re free to roam. Not a prisoner. Hm, it’s not so small that you can’t live comfortable in it, lets say at least two bedrooms, although my inner muse wants to scream, “And there was only one bed,” so hard. So original.  I suppose you don’t have to bring someone.  I think I could do it but I don’t know how beneficial it would be to my mental health. I already live alone, I have a tiny studio, and I hardly ever leave due to my health issues I’ve had this year. Although, on Fridays I get to go outside with my physical therapist and I am very much looking forward to that. Internet is very much my whole world right now. So I think if it would be taken away I would either thrive, or nose dive.  If I had to share the space with someone, I don’t know if I could do it. Depends on who it is, I suppose. Like, I love my mom to death, but her and I would kill each other within a week probably.  God this is a lot of blabbing. Oop.  Also I just saw the terrible influence thing. Yes, yes I am. I used to make my niece do tiktok’s to prank my brother but one day he got super mad. But too be fair I did have her pretend she stapled her fingers together with a staple gun. So you know. I had it coming.  You’d think all this typing would warm up my fingers, but my fingers are ice cold. Okay, here’s a question. What is your dream holiday destination?

Okay, what's the deal with people thinking EMFs are bad? Like, this pregnancy book I'm reading is saying I should avoid phone (and laptop) overuse, not for the sake of my mental health, or that maybe I should get some fresh air, but because the non-ionizing radiation it emits i somehow bad for babies, born or unborn. I looked up the study it cited (2002, Li et al.). I'm not great at science googling and I couldn't access the whole paper, but it seems to me that correlation is not causation. :/
(sorry, EMF anon again) – both sketchy and apparently legit-but-I-can’t-really-tell wed articles keeping citing the same guy, plus a bunch of secondary studies that still don’t go into HOW, exactly, EMFs are supposed to mess you up enough to cause things ranging from ADHD to weight gain. Like, literally the most it can do is heat. I’m pretty sure you get hotter in the shower than from talking on the phone. Am I missing something? Are people just looking for a scapegoat for “modern” illnesses?
I’m assuming you read this study? (which is also stuck behind a paywall for me, which is…not great. Make Science Free, you fucks)
Now, the concerns about EMFs are basically as old as human use of electricity, and concerns about it specifically being bad for babies are about as old, too. As a result there have been a bunch of studies, and have been for a while. Back in the day of cathode-ray tube TV/Computer sets, people were particular worried about that, resulting in reviews like this, this, this, and this. These three reviews are all from the early nineties, and go ‘we don’t have a lot of data on this, but what we do have says no. However since data is so scant: more research please’
of course ‘we need more data’ doesn’t mean ‘the thing is totally happening’, it just literally means ‘we don’t have enough data to confidently say it doesn’t happen’. Mind, one of the reviews explicitly mentions that if EMFs were an issue, then the fact that humans have been using increasing amounts of electricity in the 20th century onward, we should see solid correlation by now. We don’t.
Now let’s skip forward a decade. Cathode ray screens are phasing out fast, personal handheld devices are getting more common. That’s when that initial study takes place. Now two things. One is that the study says ‘possible correlation’ and that only between maximum field strength above a certain threshold, the other is that they say it’s unlikely that other factors can explain this. That’s something i’m generally very weary off, because the amount of things that can fuck with your numbers is staggering.
For example: let’s say your main source of EMF exposure is because you’re living underneath a powerline. Your daily EMF exposure is high, you have a miscarriage. The study now says ‘aha, the high EMF increased the risk!’ but let’s consider: maybe you’re living underneath a powerline because the estate was cheaper, and you’re poor. Being poor is a KNOWN negative impact factor on virtually all health issues. The stress of having to constantly worry about how you’re going to pay your bills already isn’t healthy, and living in the US, your entire access to health care is likely worse.
Which brings me to another point: the study takes on only women in the San Francisco area, and from one large health care provider. That makes sense because getting people from all over the world was way beyond this study’s limitations. However, it introduces a factor of ‘is there something about the locality of the place that makes it look like EMFs play a role’. How was the spread of ages/ethnicities? Were those factor removed during statistical analysis? (I would like to tell you, but I can’t, because paywall. Again: Make Science Free, you fucks). Also the measurement was only taken for one 24h period, meaning that there’s a high likelihood that things were missed, even if activity levels were similar outside of that 24h period.
All those things are things I cannot judge if I cannot see the paper, and those things are also a reason why meta-analysis and reviews are important. Especially meta-analysis, since the goal here is to grab a bunch of different studies and view them together, to try and get rid of limitations like the abovementioned ones.
to wit: this review came out just one year earlier than Li et.al and basically goes ‘far we can see, we don’t see effects’. This review from three years later says the same.
Let’ advance another decade, and move things close to current times. Cathode ray screens are basically gone, instead everyone bounces around with a handheld device of whatever form. Studies like this , this and this (big cohort study from France) all indicate that no, it’s not, as does this mouse study. though again: mousy =/= human, but since a lot of the ‘oh no it’s bad for you’ studies run on chicken embryos, I thought i’d include an animal one. Here’s a chicken one, though it should be noted, this one is investigating the specific effects of MRIs so we’re talking about a very particular, very strong magnetic field and the study does very much say that it’s about MRI avoidance.
So basically, after a good twenty years and change of studies, and reviews and analysis, people are still going ‘doesn’t look like it’ and that’s what I’m going with.
Why does it stick around though? Well, one is fear. People worry about doing something wrong, and therefore hurting the embryo/fetus. So overly-cautious reactions say ‘best to avoid anything that could be, theoretically, unhealthy. Pair that with the fact that electricity as a whole is relatively new, and its various applications even more, people get a little…antsy.
Pile onto that that the word ‘radiation’ already gets people running for the hills as is, and you got a great recipe for lowkey panic among prospective parents.

Light crystal display, the clear future of monitors
The use of LCD is a breakthrough in monitoring technology and various display applications such as watches, TVs and mobile phones. The old CRT displays are bulky, and each pixel uses a liquid crystal, which makes the appearance of the display and display device slim and stylish. The LCD display is also very power-saving, and the LCD display does not need to consume a lot of energy, but requires the lowest energy consumption and can also run on the battery. This is why it is very versatile and can be used in many different mobile devices. LCD display has a unique amount of pixels or fixed amount of pixelspixel-array displays. More simply, the LCD display has either a local resolution or a specific set of pixel density, which in turn shows a specific resolution. The display resolution or pixel size tells the customer the ability of the display to display the image clearly. All LCD monitors of the same size display the same resolution, as all LCD monitors have local resolution no matter what brand. Placing different resolutions outside of the local resolution results in extrapolation; This will cause multiple pixels to produce the same image, resulting in a blurry display. Buyers need to be told that buying a large LCD display actually results in a smaller image display, which is one of the few cases where the larger is actually smaller. Buying an LCD display is definitely a cost-effective decision for the buyer. The advantages of the LCD far outweigh the very small special considerations. The LCD Display produces less radiation than the cathode ray tube display or CRT display because there is no built-in- It\'s hot on the back. It\'s easy on the eyes, and the stress and tension to work with it is much smaller. It does not contain phosphorus, so it does not cause any image burns during a long pause. In addition to the modern and stylish look, the price of the LCD is very cheap, and it is easy to budget, it can also help reduce the monthly electricity bill expenditure, because it consumes less energy during useby. When purchasing an LCD display, select the display that suits your needs in terms of display resolution. While it\'s very appealing to have a huge widescreen display, when you open the site and the documentation, try to see how it looks so you can see if they fit your needs. Require energy efficient equipment to add more savings from your bill. What to consider when purchasing an LCD display? Many customers pass by and have a lot of questions about LCD monitors. Many customers do want to change their computer monitors; However, most of them are still hesitant to actually buy them. This is mainly due to many aspects that need to be considered when purchasing an LCD display. Contrary to the popular view, the LCD display is not expensive, in fact, it may even be as high as the price when you first purchased the old CRT display. It\'s also very economical, so you really get a fair amount of value for your money. To clarify the amazing features of the LCD, here are the most common questions about the LCD and their answers. What is the original resolution? The screen size of the LCD display is expressed in pixels (e. g. , 1024x768). The CRT displays have a different number of pixels, but the LCD displays have only one value or number of pixels, no matter what brand they are, as long as they have the same size. This means that all LCD displays have a specified resolution and the customer should consider it because they have to comply if they want the best results. A larger LCD display will mean that the image displayed will be much smaller, while a smaller LCD display will actually display a larger image. What is the aspect ratio? Aspect ratio is the ratio of horizontal pixels to the number of vertical pixels. The aspect ratio of most displays is 4: 3. However, the aspect ratio of the new widescreen LCD display is as high as 16: 10, and the HD function of the LCD display can even reach 16: 9, while the aspect ratio of the ultra-wide display is as high as 2: 1. This shows a wider range of features of the LCD display in terms of image clarity and clarity. What is the response time? In order for the liquid crystal to display a color or image in a specific area of the display, the current must pass through the LCD panel. The time required for the current to pass through the panel and the time required for the liquid crystal to change its state, turning on or off is called the response time. The response time refers not only to the on or off of the display, but also to the display of a bright image as well as a dark or black background. Generally speaking, the response time of the LCD display is quite fast. The rise time or turn on time is very fast, but the drop time or turn off time is a little slow, which is why you notice a short blur when the image suddenly shifts to the bright stripes on the monitor with a dark background. Especially when you buy an LCD Monitor for the game, this is a factor to consider. What is the perspective? When the current passes through the LCD panel, the pixel displays the corresponding shadow. However, the pixel displays a shadow directly in front of it, facing the audience sitting directly in front of the display. This feature of the LCD display does not allow for a clear image to be seen when viewed on the side of the display or at any other angle, rather than directly in front of the display. While this does require direct viewing, this feature is actually a popular feature, especially when customers prefer privacy on the screen. This is also an important reason why customers often choose dual widescreen displays. What is the brightness? Brightness is the ability of the display to radiate light or display color. Most new displays have very bright capabilities. This makes the customer\'s eyes the most comfortable during a long period of use. The new LCD display has advanced features when adjusting the brightness. Adjust the brightness according to the customer\'s personal choice. Having a very bright display can sometimes help, and it can also be bad, especially when the ambient light is low. The new LCD displays can automatically adjust the brightness of the display through the sensor, so it may be very beneficial to select them. Is image quality important? Of course, the LCD display is purchased for the best quality images and videos. Having the best images on the display, as well as the ease of use of the LCD on the eyes, is one of the most attractive aspects when purchasing the display. Since the image display of the CRT display is very limited, the LCD display provides customers with accurate image display, clear and clear images, because it has a very wide aspect ratio and resolution, from widescreen to HD features that show life like an image. The image quality of the LCD is definitely one of the main reasons why customers love at first sight. Shopping Tips for Buying LCD monitorsLCD monitors are clearly the future of computer monitors and other display devices. Its cutting-edge advantages and features are clearly what the next generation of displays should have. When purchasing an LCD display, please try it before purchasing. Ask the technician to open it for you before you buy it. View images on screen and try to open web pages and documents that you often view or open at home to see if the image display works for your eyes. Check the brightness of the screen and try different sizes. Each size shows a different resolution, so make sure you find the one that best suits you. If you need to replace the old CRT monitor then why not go all out and buy the best, try the hd LCD and I\'m sure you\'ll be surprised by the results. You also need to consider screen real estate. Screen real estate is the amount of space you can use on your desktop. Other desktops do display larger images, but offer less on-screen real estate. You don\'t want to see the app and pages on your monitor being overcrowded, do you? Check the screen real estate to see if you have enough space to view pages and apps without having to scroll through documents like a mile long. If you do need a lot of space then I would suggest you choose a dual screen. The dual LCD display screen definitely makes your desk look cool and it also creates a bigger screen space for you to work comfortably ( I personally used a total of four LCD screens in my office). Double LCD screen is definitely more than all you havetasking needs. Look for a display with a USB port on the side. There are USB ports to improve efficiency and accessibility. This helps a lot, especially when most ports are under the desk in the CPU. You can also try the built-in LCD displayin Speakers. The speaker can highlight your existing audio device and it is possible to create a circular sound atmosphere for the sensor. When purchasing a liquid crystal display, be sure to try out the latest models with the most accessories and functions. If the customer is interested in getting rid of bulky CRT that fatigue the eyes and produce bad image quality, you can query the high-quality LCD display on etechonline and guarantee to meet the customer\'s expectations. co. nz. Electrical technology online is a New Zealand-based company that sells a wide range of appliances and appliances, as well as high-performance displays that are valuable to your budget. The whole thing about internet pricing does not make any sense to most businesses. That too often includes those who should understand it the best. The computer support staff, in house "computer guy", or IT cadre. But the key person needing an education is the decision maker. That person who will ultimately decide what solution your company will choose. This is for "them". Remember that complex network services are like a Trojan horse. If the boss lets a "solution" in because the price looks good..... the staff is left to deal with the consequences. Be careful... you're being tempted by the siren song of price. Woooooo ~~~ low price. Woooooo ~~~ higher speed. Uhhhh Ohhhh ~~~ long term contract. Uhhhh Ohhhh ~~~ bad service, support, maintenance and billing! And Uhhhh Ohhhh ~~~ time to update your resumé. You understand for example that a T1 connection usually has a very stringent SLA (Service Level Agreement), one that cable and DSL does not. With the number of T1 circuits in existence and the number of years that they have been available, (and the number of abandoned smart jacks at customer sites), You're apt to be frustrated that it is significantly more expensive to install a T1 than it is to install a DSL circuit. You might even believe that if the actual physical costs (barring any repeating for long distances) are basically the same as DSL, then if you relax the SLA, why can't T1 circuitry be used to deliver internet where DSL does not go? You're also likely to be confused because you can get a business 15/3 circuit from a cable provider for about $150/mo and the same circuit at home is about $80. Therein is another trap. Don't get off track trying to compare a business grade line with a residential circuit. That's like comparing apples and watermelons. Is the higher cost of a T1 circuit (or DS3 bandwidth and so on) a matter of state mandated tariffs? Is it a matter of the ISPs protecting their profits with an air of exclusivity? No..... now you're buying into the conspiracy theory excuse. This can be especially migraine inducing if you business is one of those bandwidth orphans, stuck out in Boonieville, Any State USA. You cannot use satellite without cutting down big trees. You cannot get reasonable cell phone coverage even if you are willing to live with the 5Gb limit. You have no WiFi and there is no DSL. All you have available is dialup at 45K. Now that would really suck. We have been waiting for over three years for BPL (bandwidth over power lines) which apparently is still a work-in-progress. For example sake let's say you may have been quoted say $850 last year for a full T.... with some less competitive prices above $1000. You may also that we are bouncing signals off of satellites, trying to run IP over high power electric lines and bouncing wireless signals off of multiple towers, when the answer to rural internet coverage may be sitting on a little circuit board in the Demarc room. Now that's really reaching.... and too simple a argument. The facts just don't support that line of reasining. I can see where you might also think that the problem with bandwidth in the boonies is of our own making. But here's the "education" you need to get through all of that cloud cover. Facts.... not excuses and conspiracy theories. DSL and cable are shared services. Bandwidth is shared in the residential neighborhoods, and is often oversold. Thus many customers are paying for a limited resource, and the low retail price is the result. Even the facility into your residential location is shared.... cable shares the TV connection, and DSL rides on an analog voice grade line. The flip side is that T1 is a dedicated service (as is DS3 Bandwidth and Business Ethernet for example). The circuit is engineered as a digital circuit, special repeaters might be required if you're far from the central office, and you don't share your bandwidth with other subscribers. If you want to talk about businesses getting thrown under the bus, simply talk to any independent bandwidth consultant who make a living rescuing frustrated DSL and cable customers with T1 service (or any other dedicated bandwidth solution). Certainly not every DSL and cable customer is disappointed, but there are enough of them to support a thriving industry. You need to understand that the cost of the physical plant is irrelevant. Only the price to you is relevant. And the price to you for an internet T1 is almost always dependent ONLY on the distance from your central office to a carrier POP (Point Of Presence).... and almost never dependent on the distance from your location to the local central office. DSL rides on an analog voice grade line. T1 is a dedicated service. The circuit is engineered as a digital circuit, special repeaters might be required if you're far from the central office. Irrespective of SLAs and oversold/dedicated upstream bandwidth, the wires for T1 and DSL are configured differently. I can't speak for the ILECs costs to themselves when they sell a T1, but any CLEC is going to pay $X for an unconditioned copper pair for DSL, and $Y for a conditioned loop (or loops, depending on how it's delivered) for dedicated circuits. On top of that, DSL gets terminated in a DSLAM which is, compared to traditional TDM "telco" equipment, way, way cheaper. Old school telco gear for terminating T1, T3 and OC circuits is an entirely different world with insane pricing, and one hopes, reliability. This stuff is built to meet certain standards and it's all for 5-9's reliability, which the DSL gear simply is not. Then there's the install and maintenance, which involves possibly installing repeaters, picking the appropriate technology (e.g. traditional T1, DSL-based solutions - yes many T1s ride "DSL", but not the cheap stuff), circuit planning and possibly new construction, in some cases dropping a fiber Mux in the building. Ongoing you are paying for the reliability of the line and a totally different tier of people to service it. This is just the circuit itself, I'm not even getting into the handoff to the ISP and any oversubscription issues. Even Frame/ATM services over T1 where you are agreeing to go on a "shared" medium is going to be more than cable or DSL due to the underlying T1 line connecting you to the provider. But one thing which is a HUGE factor in price is the fact that since it's a "business-grade" line, the provider's SLA's require their Techs to respond to outages "within x hours" (usually 4 hrs). Meaning if you run a business and your t1 goes out at 11pm, an ILEC tech will be on-site (or at the cross connect box) by 3am. ILEC's build that cost into the monthly price.... whereas shared/best effort services (e.g. DSL, cable) say "within 24-48 hrs" to fix it (if you're lucky), and you're on the same dispatch queue as the kid down the street who is complaining because his porn is downloading slow. Keep in mind that the cost of copper and the equipment to support the digital circuit (Dedicated Bandwidth) is nothing compared to the cost of rolling a truck after-hours with a line tech to your location to fix the issue. AND, if it's a problem outside your Demarc (which is usually the case), you don't pay for the fix. It's the ILEC's issue.... meaning "someone* did pay that guy to go out there, just not you. The bottom line is this. If you're serious about your business internet needs and understand the importance of having top notch customer service to go with it, you need to go with a carrier with a reputation for great customer service. Dedicated Bandwidth is a very cost effective solution for any company who understands the difference from DSL and cable. Simply be aware that the lowest price rarely means the best service or quality. Because in the internet connection world, more often than not, you get what you pay for.
